A scheduled political meeting of the United National Congress has been postponed not because of public restrictions, but due to concerns raised during the ongoing State of Emergency. While there's no curfew in place, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar in a comment to TV6 News...urged citizens to "exercise a heightened sense of alert during the SOE."
00:00Prime Minister Kamla Pasar-Basasa was scheduled to deliver a speech during a public meeting of her party, the United National Congress, on Monday night.
00:09But on the day before the scheduled event, the UNC's Public Relations Officer, Dr. Kirk Magu, issued a brief statement to the media,
00:17which said that the party's Monday night report on the 21st of July, 2025, at 7 p.m. at the Cougar South Multipurpose Hall, Canbem Road, Cougar, has been postponed due to the state of emergency.
00:32The brief statement then said further details will be provided in due course.
00:38The state of emergency, or SOE, does not presently include a curfew or any limitations on public gatherings.
00:44TV6 News sent a question to Prime Minister Pasar-Basasa to find out if the public should be particularly concerned or be on a heightened sense of alert due to the postponement of the UNC's Monday night report.

01:11The police service said in its statement on Friday about the state of emergency that intelligence reveals that incarcerated individuals are actively leveraging internal and external networks to plan and execute attacks on key figures within the national security and justice sectors.
01:28The TTPS further said that these efforts are not isolated, but represent a structured campaign involving multiple criminal entities whose targets include senior police officers, members of the judiciary, personnel within the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service, and that additional intelligence continues to be gathered through interagency collaboration.
01:51The TTPS said that an emergency briefing was given to the Prime Minister and Attorney General on Thursday night, and immediate steps were taken to enact containment, the strategic removal, and relocation of key incarcerated individuals so as to disrupt command structures and prevent further coordination.
02:10Legal notices for the state of emergency, which have been gathered and are under the name of Homeland Security Minister, Roger Alexander, for public record, confirm that premises approved by the Minister at Tetran Barracks, Shagaramus, and at Storbles Bay, Shagaramus, are district prisons or detention centers under the Emergency Powers Regulations.
02:30Those locations are basis of the Trinidad and Storbles, those locations are basis of the Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force.
02:35Under the Constitution, if the government determines after the first 15 days an initial three-month extension to the state of emergency is required, the House of Representatives shall have to convene to debate a motion for that extension, which can be approved via the government's majority.
