Attorney for Prisons Senior Superintendent Garth Guada says that they have filed a request for a review of his Preventative Detention Order before a review tribunal but are yet to receive any word on a date for his hearing- despite receiving acknowledgement from the tribunal.
Attorney Krystal Primus who spoke to TV6 News is convinced that Guada is being targeted by fellow colleagues and dismisses allegations con
00:00Several days after police said they detained a senior prison officer under a preventative detention order, he has been revealed as prison's senior superintendent Garth Gorda allegedly linked to murder accused Rajai Ali.
00:13The preventative detention order signed by Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander alleges that Gorda is an associate of Ali's radical Islamic criminal gang.
00:23The order in a nutshell stated that Gorda had been providing support for other gang leaders and members who are incarcerated in furtherance of their participation and involvement in the Commission of Violent Gang-Related Activities, which included the killing of public officials in public spaces using high-powered rifles.
00:41The order also alleged that Gorda, open quote, repeatedly facilitated the breach of prison security measures for the benefit of the gang members and has been trying to engage in further breaches at their current place of incarceration, Tetron Barracks, close quote.
00:56But today's attorney Crystal Primer said the allegations against a client are based on rumors and his detention is unjustified.
01:03The allegations in this detention order is here, see on propaganda, they are baseless allegations, right, by mischievous co-workers who are seeking to get rid of Mr. Gorda.
01:19She also denied that a client, Garth Gorda, had attempted to smuggle any contraband for the inmates at Tetron Barracks, as stated in the order.
01:26That the prison service is of hierarchical nature, and that means that orders are handed down to junior staff from more senior staff, right?
01:36And any action that Mr. Gorda would have taken in respect of the transferred inmates, he was acting in the course of his duty and based on orders.
01:46A single man cannot walk into Tetron Barracks.
01:51This government, the state, wants you to believe that he walked through Tetron Barracks and handed over articles to the inmates.
01:58That is not true.
02:00And when Mr. Gorda went to Tetron Barracks, he did not go by himself.
02:05Primer said that while she had written to the tribunal last Friday after a client had been detained on August 18th at his Malabar home,
02:11and her letter was acknowledged by the tribunal, she is yet to receive a date for the hearing.
02:17Primer said that once a disclosure is made by the minister, the tribunal will then have to decide on a suitable date to have the detention here in Faguarda.
02:24They can either reaffirm his detention or revoke it.
