Despite a decision by a High Court judge which found that a recent promotion process in the TTPS was flawed and therefore invalid, Acting Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin says, he does not think the Service will be considering taking away everyone's ranks. He says the Service is deliberating on the best way forward. Rynessa Cutting reports.

00:00With a high court judge finding that the TDPS's promotion processes were highly
00:05flawed at every step, the service is now faced with the challenge of how to move
00:10forward. Well it's engaging our attention and as I said we are looking at the all
00:15the possible options whether we are going to appeal or not appeal
00:20consideration or officers there those that will be as we say timing out and
00:25all the different things so we are looking at it or holistically. The matter
00:29concerned the promotion processes for officers from the rank of inspector to
00:34assistant superintendent of police but there is a view that all promotions may
00:38now be under scrutiny. I think that we could be a bit premature in probably
00:43even taking this this judgment beyond what was said and the context in which
00:50it was said. Nevertheless I think that the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service will
00:55continue to make decisions in the best interest of the organization on a whole.
01:01We are not going to look at the whole situation of ranks being taken away and
01:09that kind of stuff because again I think that we have enough precedence to deal
01:14with those matters. In fact at least two other senior officers are unconcerned
01:19about their position to the organization. I will continue to perform at whatever
01:24rank. There is precedence set already as it relates to ranks being
01:31taken away however I'm just saying this to that this is just the judgment of one
01:36judge and we have other options that we could seek as it relates to that
01:41decision. I'm not particularly concerned about the matter. Meantime the
01:47investigation into Police Commissioner Ulloa Hayward-Christopher is said to be
01:51at a very sensitive stage. We are at the point where the matter is before the DPP
01:58and we await at this time the advice and I want to say the advice of the
02:07Trinidad and Tobago Police Service continue to deal with this matter in a very
02:11professional manner and to ensure the highest level of integrity in the way
02:16that we conduct this investigation.
