00:00Cube strikes are back in the capital.
00:03From Friday the 5th of September, a series of walkouts will take place over the following week,
00:10taking us up to the 11th of September.
00:14The first couple of days involves a strike by some managers at the Reislip depot,
00:19but by Sunday the 7th of September, coincidentally the penultimate day of the Coldplay tour at Wembley,
00:28there will be a serious impact right across the Tube network.
00:34What the RMT union is doing is calling members out who have different jobs in various parts of the underground network.
00:43The idea is that you get five clear days of, well, hopefully in the point of view of the RMT,
00:51a total shutdown of the Tube network.
00:54The Elizabeth Line, the main east-west line that runs through the capital,
01:00is not affected and neither is the London Overground.
01:05But if you were hoping that the Docklands Light Railway,
01:09which runs around the east of the capital, was going to provide some help,
01:13I'm afraid it's not.
01:14There is a separate strike that is taking place from the 7th to the 11th inclusive.
01:22What's the strike about?
01:23Well, the RMT says that the Transport for London bosses have refused to engage seriously with union demands on pay,
01:32fatigue management, extreme shift patterns and a reduction in the working week.
01:38Transport for London, for its part, says we've been negotiating in good faith with the RMT.
01:45We are working through issues with them, but, and I quote here, a reduction in the contractual affordable.
01:53Meanwhile, it remains possible that the strikes could be called off.
01:59There's a fair history of that in the RMT, but it might be that it's called off so late that actually there's still some disruption.
