00:02The Rail Maritime and Transport Union confirmed that its members will walk out from 12pm
00:07for 24 hours on Tuesday and on Thursday, while accusing Transport for London of imposing
00:15a new four-day working week. RMT General Secretary Eddie Dempsey said they had approached negotiations
00:24with TfL in good faith throughout the entire process, but despite what he described as
00:30their best efforts, they said TfL seem unwilling to make any concessions in a bid to avert strike
00:37action. He added the approach of TfL is not one which leads to industrial peace and will infuriate
00:44their members who he said want to see a negotiated settlement to this quote-unquote avoidable
00:51dispute. TfL said services will vary across lines and urge passengers to check before
00:57they travel. Some bus routes in the capital operated by Stagecoach will also be affected
01:03by a separate 24-hour strike from 5am on Friday. Claire Mann, TfL's chief operating officer, said
01:10they have set out proposals to the RMT for a four-day working week but said the changes
01:17would be voluntary and there would be no reduction in contractual hours and those who wish to
01:22continue a five-day working week pattern would be able to do so.
