00:11Tube strikes this week have left London with virtually no underground services.
00:18The strike by members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport Union began on Sunday
00:26and is part of a dispute over pay and working conditions.
00:30TfL has offered a 3.4% pay rise, which it described as fair,
00:35and said it cannot afford to meet the union's other demand, which is for a cut in the working week.
00:43Nick Dent, London Underground's Director of Customer Operations, said union demands for a cut in the 35-hour week
00:54were simply unaffordable and would cost hundreds of millions of pounds.
01:01Just to give you an idea of the scale of this strike, the last tube-wide strike was three years ago over pay and pensions.
01:11Mr Dent added that this week's action will be different because separate groups of workers are walking out on different days.
01:21The RMT spokesperson said that they were not going on strike to disrupt small businesses or the public,
01:29but added this strike is going ahead because of the intransigent approach of TfL management
01:38and their refusal to even consider a small reduction in the working week.
01:44The RMT mailbox should be considered a huge increase in commerce that may estimating its group throughout the year.
