00:00:20Half-time at Celtic Park in the second round of the League Cup.
00:00:23Celtic 1-0 Falkirk.
00:00:26It brings Maeda off the mark for the season.
00:00:31But Rodgers will be looking a bit more of a ruthless finishing product
00:00:39in the second half because it's the only thing that was really missing,
00:00:42bar a couple of slips at the back which did let Falkirk in.
00:00:47It really was all about Celtic creating chances that they just couldn't put away.
00:00:55No, I agree with you 100%.
00:00:57I think what we had done early in the game was we got the wide players into the positions that could hurt Falkirk.
00:01:03Whether that was full-backs or Dyson Maeda on one side and James Forrest on the other.
00:01:10And I thought Austin Turstey and Dane Murray done that very well.
00:01:14They gave them it quick so it was giving them 1v1 opportunities.
00:01:17But the amount of crosses that come in the box.
00:01:19As a forward player or a midfield runner you'd be absolutely delighted.
00:01:23As I said, the only disappointment is the chances we didn't score them.
00:01:29We created fantastic well with Kieran Tierney as well.
00:01:32Somebody's crossing was excellent.
00:01:34Big chances missed.
00:01:35Arne Engels is header.
00:01:36You're thinking right in front of goals.
00:01:38James Forrest right in front of goals.
00:01:39Arne Engels had a brilliant effort off the post.
00:01:41Scott Baines had a couple of great saves.
00:01:43And the defender Henderson putting one kneel in his own net.
00:01:46So with all the opportunities.
00:01:48But there's still been a threat going the other way.
00:01:51We always say that about Celtic goalkeepers week in, week out.
00:01:53We say they've always got to make a save.
00:01:55And he's had to do that Sinna Solo out of nothing.
00:01:58You know, he's had to make that decision and make a save.
00:02:01And that would disappoint Brendan.
00:02:03One, that we've not scored enough of our chances.
00:02:05But also the fact that they've had a couple of opportunities.
00:02:07And Adam Eder is on the bench.
00:02:09Is this the kind of game you think that could really help Adam Eder and his confidence
00:02:13in getting him off the mark for the season?
00:02:16Well, I think Adam Eder would be delighted.
00:02:18And to be fair to Johnny Kenny, he's done it well as well.
00:02:20He's got in there, he saw the opportunities.
00:02:22But he's got bodies around about him.
00:02:24I think that's always important.
00:02:26Especially nowadays because you play with one striker.
00:02:28I think you have to have people running there.
00:02:30Because strikers used to walk in a pair.
00:02:31One would make the run to the front.
00:02:32And that would drag defenders and create an opportunity for you.
00:02:35In this first half, that's what's happened fantastically well.
00:02:38Engels has got in the box.
00:02:39McCown's got in the box.
00:02:40James Forrest's been in the box.
00:02:41Johnny Kenny's in the box.
00:02:42Callum and that's been backing up at the edge of the box.
00:02:44And the ball's been continuously coming in.
00:02:46There's been some fantastic deliveries in there.
00:02:48So I think any striker, not just Adam Eder,
00:02:51would be wetting their lips at it and saying,
00:02:53give me that ball in there.
00:02:54That's what I want.
00:02:55I want the opportunities.
00:02:56But listen, you know I'm a supporter of Adam Eder.
00:02:59I just think you've got to get that confidence
00:03:02and you get the goals.
00:03:03And we know he's produced big, big performances.
00:03:05None bigger than the Aston Villa game last year.
00:03:07And that shows you what he's capable of.
00:03:09But he's got to do that consistently as everybody at Celtic.
00:03:11You're always judging every game.
00:03:13Well, maybe we'll see Adam at some point in this second half.
00:03:18The manager spoke pre-match about striking that balance
00:03:21between wanting to continue and keep those first-choice players playing
00:03:27at the early stage of the season,
00:03:29but also in a match like this,
00:03:31giving other players a chance to get some game time.
00:03:35So it's a balance that he will continue with in this second half.
00:03:39And I'm sure he'll be thinking about the European game around the corner,
00:03:43especially perhaps if Celtic can get another goal or two here
00:03:45and really kind of put this game to bed.
00:03:47Oh, for sure.
00:03:48There's no doubt.
00:03:49That's what Ben are going to be hoping for.
00:03:51You'd love to get a couple of quick-fire goals.
00:03:53What you don't want is concede.
00:03:54And all of a sudden you're in that position saying,
00:03:56when do I make the changes?
00:03:57There is absolutely no doubt whatever way the game's going,
00:03:59he's going to make the changes,
00:04:00but the timing of it will be relevant to when Celtic hopefully can put this to bed.
00:04:05Falker, as I say, are dangerous because of the front guys they have.
00:04:09I believe that.
00:04:10But I just think if we keep creating the chances,
00:04:12we won't continue to miss.
00:04:14That's for sure.
00:04:15And as I said,
00:04:16it would be delighted with the attitude of the boys.
00:04:18That's the biggest thing.
00:04:19The quality's been there, dominated big parts of it as you do.
00:04:22The only disappointment is you've not conceded,
00:04:24sorry, you've not scored more goals.
00:04:26Well, they need to get on the pitch to score more goals,
00:04:30and the manager is keeping them back as long as he possibly can.
00:04:34Falker could have been out for a good couple of minutes,
00:04:36playing the ball around, trying to keep themselves limbered up on the pitch
00:04:43as they wait for the Celtic team to come back out.
00:04:47Unless he's making any changes yet, as you said,
00:04:51because it substitutes him later.
00:04:53You know, so maybe he's making changes just now,
00:04:56which is unlike Brendan in the respect of that.
00:04:58But, listen, he wouldn't be taking anybody off with a disappointment
00:05:01in their performance.
00:05:02It'd just be maybe about an injury or whatever.
00:05:04I know he's talking about Kiernan's minutes because of the amount of
00:05:07game time that he's had or not had continuously.
00:05:10He's monitoring that, and you don't want to give him too much at one,
00:05:14all at once, because then fatigue does kick in.
00:05:17And it's worth saying, it used to be the case that, you know,
00:05:19you wouldn't see many changes at half-time unless they were necessary,
00:05:22because you want a few minutes for those players to warm up at the side of the pitch,
00:05:25but there's now a warm-up area inside the tunnel area,
00:05:28just outside the home dressing room, so these potential substitutes could be warming up.
00:05:32Absolutely.
00:05:33And as I said, they were on the pitch and then the wall went in,
00:05:36so whether he's making changes in there and giving them tactical things,
00:05:39I'm not so sure, but unless Falkirk have come out a hell of a lot earlier.
00:05:43Yeah, well, that's true.
00:05:44For the disappointment that John was having in the first half,
00:05:46because he's not made any substitutions,
00:05:48so he's probably told that they'd be better.
00:05:50That's true, we're just assuming Falkirk will come out at the normal time,
00:05:53but maybe they're early as Celtic now come out.
00:05:55And we'll look and see if there's any changes, don't see any as yet,
00:06:01so it's as you were, so maybe it was just Falkirk getting out there early.
00:06:07I think that was a disappointment John would have.
00:06:10He always expects his team to know where to go,
00:06:13to be able to perform and maintain the ball.
00:06:15They've never done that, you know,
00:06:17and that'll be disappointed that he kicked the ball away a few times
00:06:20when they were in defensive areas and created problems for themselves.
00:06:24And I think that's sometimes a disappointment,
00:06:26and John will show that to him coming to the Celtic party,
00:06:28he can't be thanked, he never done that last year, all these things.
00:06:31So he's probably said to him, get out there and show me you're a better team
00:06:34than what you showed in the first half.
00:06:44So referee just waits to get the nod before he gets the second half on the way,
00:06:52which it now is, Celtic shooting from right to left into the Jochstein stand.
00:06:57Oh, there's an early foul there on the angles by Zagimant.
00:07:06Sometimes the start of the second half, players can be a little bit fired up from their managers once.
00:07:10Well, I think he's told them to get closer.
00:07:12I think that's the biggest thing he's told them to agree with them,
00:07:14because I thought it was very difficult for the inside men to get out to Celtic's wide players in the first half.
00:07:19And you can see that they're a lot more closer.
00:07:22The distances are better for them to be able to do that.
00:07:25But Celtic are more than capable of playing against that.
00:07:37I think I'm right in saying when John McGloan was part of Brendan Rodgers' backroom staff,
00:07:39his role and responsibility was to analyse the future opposition teams,
00:07:46use his managerial experience and then communicate to the manager about what they were up against.
00:07:52But he is, within Scottish football terms, a very experienced and successful manager.
00:07:57former league manager of the year as well, so...
00:08:07He's done very well as the man in the hot seat,
00:08:09and he did brilliantly to get Falker double promotions.
00:08:14Yeah, you're right, he's done a fantastic job for them,
00:08:16because it was a big job and he had a big expectation.
00:08:19He'd done very well at Wraith Rovers, and then he came to Falker, as you say,
00:08:23and got the double promotion for them.
00:08:25It's never easy, no matter what.
00:08:29Lovely guy as well, John, really down to earth.
00:08:33As I say, a good football man.
00:08:35Chance there, first shot at goal in the second half goes the way of Falker.
00:08:39Calvin Miller, not really troubling.
00:08:42Sinisalo, straight at the goalkeeper.
00:08:45You can see John, as I say, has talked about the distances.
00:08:53They seem better now in the team, they can get a little bit closer to Celtic,
00:08:57that's what they're trying to do.
00:08:59I thought in the first half it was so easy to pass out to the wide players,
00:09:01as we see here again, because if you see Calvin Miller's position,
00:09:03it's very difficult to go out for that position.
00:09:07Forrest got the ball, he found Alistair Johnson,
00:09:09the cross into the area there.
00:09:11Scooped up by the single-hander,
00:09:13Scott Baird immediately launched upfield, one-on-one.
00:09:17Dane Murray back there with McIver,
00:09:22referee's blowing his whistle, was it off-site against McIver?
00:09:25Yeah, it was.
00:09:26I think it maybe was, yeah.
00:09:30But he shows you, Scott Baird's experience tells you,
00:09:33that Celtic will only go one for one at the back when you attack,
00:09:36so he's used it very well to get in there,
00:09:38McIver obviously just went too early.
00:09:43Baird does bring, of course, a little bit of insider knowledge with him.
00:09:46I'm looking at his drinks bottle that's fully named,
00:09:48so he must be expecting to go to penalty kicked.
00:09:49Well, he's certainly been on the end of a lot of Celtic penalties
00:09:51at Lennox Town in training.
00:09:52If it does get that way,
00:09:53goodness me, at this stage,
00:09:54the prospect of penalty kicks in this tie
00:09:55is not something that these supporters will be even thinking about,
00:09:57but it's just 1-0.
00:09:58That is always the thing, you know,
00:09:59because you know they've got quality delivery,
00:10:01you know they've got players that are good in the air,
00:10:03so you know all these things.
00:10:04So that's why you want that, even though you're dominating the game,
00:10:07as long as it's 1-0, that always gives them that opportunity to never be out at Falkirk at this moment in time.
00:10:14Paul's out on this near side, midway inside the Celtic half,
00:10:17throw to Celtic,
00:10:18here in here in here in here,
00:10:19and it's 1-0.
00:10:20That is always the thing, you know,
00:10:21because you know they've got quality delivery,
00:10:23you know they've got players that are good in the air,
00:10:25so you know all these things.
00:10:27So that's why you want that, even though you're dominating the game,
00:10:30as long as it's 1-0, that always gives them that opportunity to never be out at Falkirk at this moment in time.
00:10:35Balls out on this near side,
00:10:40midway inside the Celtic half,
00:10:42throw to Celtic, here in Tierney.
00:10:47Off the ball in hand,
00:10:48Falkirk always bring a sizable away support,
00:10:51when they come to Celtic Park.
00:11:00They were a very well supported club,
00:11:02and the son played there under Peter Houston,
00:11:04and he loved the time there.
00:11:06Celtic managed to work it from a throw-in all the way through to the far side,
00:11:11and the shot there from James Forrest,
00:11:13parried by Scott Bain,
00:11:15almost onto the head of Dyson Maeda.
00:11:17That will go down as another good save,
00:11:20and a little smile communication, shall we say, between Bain and Forrest.
00:11:24Absolutely.
00:11:25I'm not sure if it's in a slight deflection,
00:11:27maybe I'm doing James a disservice,
00:11:29but Scott Bain does very well to get it away from the corner.
00:11:34Corner kick to Celtic, Arne Engels.
00:11:36This will be another in-swinger
00:11:38from the right foot of the Belgian midfielder.
00:11:40The delivery again and again, it's headed away.
00:11:47You see what Falkirk have done there,
00:11:49they've put Angermann closer to the ball because his delivery's been so good,
00:11:52so he's got to lift it a little bit more,
00:11:54think about it a little bit more,
00:11:55but he's still got a fantastic ball in there, Arne Engels.
00:11:57McEwen, great ball switch across it.
00:12:00Engels, the cross comes in from Tierney,
00:12:02it's headed behind, and it will be another corner.
00:12:05To Arne Engels.
00:12:09Gets the nod tonight ahead of the impressive Benjamin Negrin,
00:12:16who really put in a shift up at the Toddy,
00:12:19got his first goal for Celtic as well,
00:12:20so a good bit of healthy competition in the midfield.
00:12:24From two quality players, and it comes.
00:12:26Engels puts another expert delivery.
00:12:28These are great corners from Engels,
00:12:30and to be fair to the Falkirk defence,
00:12:32they're dealing with them well,
00:12:34but they've got another one coming their way here.
00:12:36Yeah, they can't do any more with the delivery he's put in.
00:12:39I'd say every single one has been fantastic.
00:12:42Actually, watching that,
00:12:43I feel it to come off the head of trusty,
00:12:45but it's another corner.
00:12:46I'm not sure,
00:12:47and I was lying on myself there,
00:12:48but we'll take it.
00:12:49I'll take it, no complaints.
00:12:55No chance of an in-swinger this side as Engels
00:12:59comes across to take.
00:13:06Near post this time.
00:13:10Johnny Kenny ran to meet that.
00:13:13Just couldn't get enough of a glance on that.
00:13:17Too much.
00:13:19On the forehead,
00:13:21and it's over the bar.
00:13:29Falkirk player out of defence, was that kicked in by Aguimant?
00:13:31I think it was, but it's out now.
00:13:33It will be a Falkirk throw.
00:13:39John McGlynn having words with Aidan Nesbitt.
00:13:41Perhaps about to make some changes.
00:13:47Aidan Nesbitt, a player who was a youngster,
00:13:49on the fringes of things under Brendan Rodgers
00:13:51in his first stint as Celtic manager.
00:13:53Played just one minute, I think,
00:13:55for the first team in a League Cup tie against Wraith Rovers.
00:14:00Back in the day,
00:14:01I think he's about to come on for Falkirk.
00:14:04He's a talented player, Aidan.
00:14:07You know, as I say, he was always a good, very good footballer.
00:14:11I mean, Calvin Miller and that were involved in the 20s at Scotland and that together,
00:14:15along with Celtic players at that particular time,
00:14:17and I was always impressed with him.
00:14:21Good football brain.
00:14:23People would say he maybe lacked a little bit of pace,
00:14:25but he more than made up like that with his quality, I felt.
00:14:29It could be a double change for the wayside.
00:14:38Oh, they've given the ball away.
00:14:40What a chance this is for Alistair Johnson!
00:14:42He goes for goal!
00:14:43And he finds the goal!
00:14:45Celtic's right back with his left foot.
00:14:48Curls one past Scott Bain.
00:14:50And it's 53 minutes gone,
00:14:52as Celtic now do have that important second goal.
00:14:55Yeah, it's massive.
00:14:57And to be fair, Alistair Johnson,
00:14:59we talked about on that left-hand side,
00:15:01you can see Calvin Miller gets the ball here,
00:15:04tries to take his touch,
00:15:06goes to take too many touches,
00:15:08Alistair Johnson's in there.
00:15:09It's a great finish, actually,
00:15:11getting away into the far corner.
00:15:13I think John are a bit disappointed with Calvin Miller
00:15:15because he gives up here once he can lose his possession,
00:15:17and he just stops and Alistair Johnson just keeps going,
00:15:20says, there you go, pick that one out.
00:15:23Well, takes this with his second touch,
00:15:25he wins the ball off,
00:15:26Miller,
00:15:27one touch with a left foot,
00:15:29and then curls it with a left foot,
00:15:31and for a right-footer who's a defender,
00:15:33that's a real pick-out from Alistair Johnson.
00:15:35A fantastic finish,
00:15:37and, as you say, Brendan will be delighted.
00:15:39John will be so disappointed as he's just making his two substitutions,
00:15:42and that gives Brendan that opportunity to take that breather now
00:15:46and make the changes that he's thinking of changes.
00:15:48So number 10 and number 20 coming on for Falkirk,
00:15:55Aidan Nesbitt,
00:15:56and Conor Allen.
00:15:57Well, obviously the fact Celtic have scored a second goal hasn't changed,
00:16:05John McGlynn's thoughts, it was all about trying to get back into the game,
00:16:09and they need to do that even more now.
00:16:14There's nothing worse as a manager, but you feel as if I've got a wee chance here,
00:16:17I'm going to make a couple of substitutions to freshen it up,
00:16:20you know, and bring that a little bit of quality,
00:16:22as I say, what Nesbitt's got,
00:16:23and then you lose a goal through your own throw-in.
00:16:27That'll be the big disappointment for him.
00:16:29Celtic are finding the spaces now,
00:16:32if Dyson Maeda can get on the end of this one, he can.
00:16:35What an enticing ball into the penalty box,
00:16:39but there's good covering there in the Falkirk defence
00:16:42before the ball could land at the feet of Johnny Kenny.
00:16:45Yeah, McCann done very well there because he gets into that position,
00:16:49Dyson does the right thing, he plays it first time,
00:16:52Johnny Kenny's in that position,
00:16:54he can't really get across it if McCann,
00:16:56so you've got to give the defender credit.
00:17:03Well, the manager may be thinking about making changes,
00:17:05Benjamin Negrin, Adam Ida, Yang, Shin Yamada, Paolo Bernardo,
00:17:10not seeing him much this season,
00:17:12Rayo Hatati, Anthony Ralston, Celtic looking for a third,
00:17:15Alistair Johnson played in,
00:17:17the cross over everyone's head.
00:17:23Maeda keeps it in, finds Tierney back to McGregor.
00:17:30Tierney again, McGregor.
00:17:32Normally, I would say, Peter, that perhaps players he's thinking about
00:17:35playing against Irak, he wouldn't come on,
00:17:38but at this stage of the season,
00:17:39I just wonder if he's wanting to get them all minutes.
00:17:41I think there's no doubt.
00:17:42I think you've maybe, I know it sounds crazy,
00:17:44but it looks like it's a bag of Maeda.
00:17:45Forrest through there, went down now,
00:17:47the referee says no free kick,
00:17:49and I'm sure James Forrest is thinking,
00:17:50well, if that's no free kick, why on earth did I go down,
00:17:53because I was through on goal?
00:17:54Yeah, I found that strange as well.
00:18:01I'm not sure it's the last tackle,
00:18:03it's the one James tries to get out the road of here.
00:18:05You see the clip there?
00:18:06I think that's the one that knocks him more.
00:18:08The referee's not giving it against the player that was coming out towards him,
00:18:11I think it's the one prior to that who should have gave the free kick for.
00:18:14Celtic coming again, Maeda.
00:18:18Engels, McGregor, Celtic absolutely dominating possession.
00:18:25Once again, Forrest.
00:18:27McCown comes to collect back to James Forrest.
00:18:32McGregor now gets a return from Engels.
00:18:37McGregor, edge of the area.
00:18:39Oh, he loves to get that space for a shot, but it's blocked.
00:18:43Celtic still have it, though.
00:18:44Tierney back to Trusty.
00:18:46Celtic playing the ball around with confidence.
00:18:50Murray gets a return from Johnson.
00:18:52Trusty.
00:18:56On the left is Tierney.
00:19:00Maeda.
00:19:03Engels ahead of him.
00:19:06Nesbitt realised that Engels perhaps was offside.
00:19:09Claim for it, got it.
00:19:1257 and a half minutes gone.
00:19:15Here's the goal that puts Celtic two goals up.
00:19:18It's a fantastic finish.
00:19:21As I say, it all comes from Falkert through, and Celtic didn't back off.
00:19:25They stepped onto them, winning the ball back.
00:19:27The two players going into Calvin Miller.
00:19:30Alistair Johnson knicks off him, and then goes through and finishes it like a striker.
00:19:33You know, a fantastic finish.
00:19:38Five goals in domestic football so far for Celtic in three games.
00:19:41Five different scorers.
00:19:42Out comes Sinasalo.
00:19:43Ball comes off his knee, but the offside flag is up on this near side against Calvin Miller.
00:19:49My pet hate that Sinasalo coming out like that, sliding.
00:19:54It's already offside.
00:19:56For me, they've got to change that role.
00:19:58As a goalkeeper, our player's going to get a bad one.
00:20:03Good turn by Forrest, he's been excellent in this game.
00:20:06Tierney, space on the left-hand side.
00:20:09Dyson, Maeda, first touch, lets him down.
00:20:12Get him off, he's looking tired.
00:20:15Is that him?
00:20:21Ball breaks the way of Engels.
00:20:23Oh, I thought he fancied that there, but gave it back.
00:20:27Maybe he should have had a shot, Celtic have lost possession,
00:20:30but they want it back now, Tierney.
00:20:35Forrest after Tierney.
00:20:42Murray out to McCown.
00:20:45On the right, back to Dane Murray.
00:20:48Trusting out.
00:21:01Look at the space for McGregor.
00:21:03A little chip in towards Dyson.
00:21:05Maeda couldn't control it for himself.
00:21:07It's gone out for a throw to Celtic on the near side.
00:21:10I thought he was offside there at first when he had received it.
00:21:13He must have made his...
00:21:14Time off his run must have been excellent,
00:21:16and a great pick-out, as you say with Callum.
00:21:27Once again, Celtic press.
00:21:29Trusty this time, and he keep this in.
00:21:34He's done brilliantly.
00:21:35He's done really well.
00:21:37He won the ball back in the press,
00:21:39and then chased to try and keep it in.
00:21:40Dylan Tate was with him.
00:21:41Full-cut player at the last touch,
00:21:43and Trusty's won inside a corner.
00:21:45Absolutely.
00:21:46Listen, the small details are so important.
00:21:49We are showing the attitude, as we say.
00:21:51That will be pleasing the manager more than anything,
00:21:53even the way they're played.
00:21:55It's the attitude of the group.
00:21:56These boys have been left out, it's never easy.
00:21:59Engels with a corner on the other.
00:22:05In swing-up.
00:22:06It's a goal this time.
00:22:07This time a goal comes from Arne Engels.
00:22:09And what a man to get his first goal for Celtic.
00:22:11Dane Murray on the day that he had signed an extension to his contract.
00:22:21He was at Celtic Park today to sign the contract.
00:22:25He then pops up to nod home,
00:22:27and Arne Engels corner for his first goal in the hoops on the hour mark.
00:22:31And it's Dane Murray with that big smile that makes it Celtic 3-0.
00:22:39As you said, what a ball a game behind the Engels.
00:22:42So important set plays,
00:22:44and delighted for the young man.
00:22:45What a day it's been for him.
00:22:46You'll never forget that, getting his extended contract,
00:22:49getting his goal at Celtic Park.
00:22:51The perfect day for him.
00:22:56Well, there's a certain brand of beer that don't do.
00:23:00Celtic games, but if they did,
00:23:02it would be one like that.
00:23:04What a day.
00:23:05What a dream.
00:23:06Not only to sign a contract for Celtic,
00:23:08but then to score your first goal at Celtic Park for the club.
00:23:11Well done, Dane Murray.
00:23:25Don't know if the contract included a scoring bonus for a central defender.
00:23:29It might not.
00:23:30He'll be disappointed now if he's not.
00:23:31Maybe the agent will be looking for someone at the club to say,
00:23:36can we add a little bit in there?
00:23:37Yeah, it's a big thing.
00:23:39Too late now.
00:23:40It's been signed.
00:23:41Absolutely.
00:23:42What we said about set-play has been so important at any level.
00:23:45You know, but the delivery and the angles has been first-class throughout the game.
00:23:51It really has.
00:23:52Falkirk now with a chance to put a dangerous ball into the area.
00:23:56Austin Trustee back there defending well.
00:23:58Heads it out.
00:23:59Dyson Maeda helps it on its way.
00:24:01Look for the Falkirk throw.
00:24:04The referee just holds things up.
00:24:11Celtic gets it to make a triple change.
00:24:15Johnny Kerry coming off sort of Dyson Maeda.
00:24:21He's putting his minutes in.
00:24:25And this is Kieran Tierney.
00:24:28So who are we getting to see?
00:24:30We're getting to see Yang.
00:24:31We're getting to see Liam Scales.
00:24:34Who are we getting to see Shin?
00:24:36So, Brendan Rodgers once again opting not to put a natural left-back.
00:24:50I'm not sure we've got another natural left-back, to be honest.
00:24:53He wouldn't call.
00:24:55Liam Scales that, but he comes on into that position.
00:25:02Well, so far this season, he's been called upon.
00:25:06Yeah.
00:25:07When Kieran's hit, went off and whatever.
00:25:09He's done ever so well.
00:25:10Whether he's played centre-back or left-back, Liam Scales to be fair to him.
00:25:13You know, so that versatility.
00:25:16And sometimes you want a defender, you know, in certain games,
00:25:19like a big European night, you're away from home.
00:25:21They're looking for that.
00:25:23If anything, God forbid, happened to Kieran.
00:25:25You would want a defender just to play as a defender,
00:25:28where Kieran can do both going forward.
00:25:30But the height becomes important.
00:25:32All these things that set plays, and Scales definitely brings that.
00:25:36Chance for Celtic.
00:25:37Yang twisting and turning!
00:25:39He's done really well.
00:25:40It's an own goal.
00:25:41It's gone in from Liam Henderson.
00:25:44And that was all about Yang's very, very immediate contribution off the bench.
00:25:51Went on one of his mazy runs with the left boot, played the ball across.
00:25:55And really, Henderson could do nothing about it, but pop it into his own net.
00:25:59Yes, Yang being positive.
00:26:01Only disappointed for me is I was hoping that Henderson would have missed it,
00:26:04and it went to Shin.
00:26:05But it went off Henderson's Shin, actually.
00:26:09It went off Henderson's Shin before it could come off Shin.
00:26:12I must prefer Yamada, but anyway, let's see if he can score first.
00:26:18It's a big potential half-hour for Shin Yamada.
00:26:24Celtic clearly home and dry in this game, 4-0 up in front of the home support.
00:26:29I'm sure the likes of Shin Yamada will be desperate to score his first goal in competitive football for Celtic.
00:26:37Absolutely.
00:26:38And everybody else is wishing he scores because that's what you want to see.
00:26:40Your strikers put the ball in the back of the net.
00:26:42You guys, especially the forward players, you want them to get the ball in the net as quickly as they can for there.
00:26:47To bring that confidence to them, the belief that they can score goals, that's always important.
00:26:54Shot from the edge of the area, well over the top of the bar.
00:26:5965 minutes gone.
00:27:02Is there anything Falkirk can do now for the final 25-30 minutes?
00:27:06There's going to be more changes for them.
00:27:12It's interesting to bring the experienced guys on there.
00:27:15The old guard are coming on.
00:27:17Ryan Graham and Scott Arfield.
00:27:19Yeah, I think that's important for them because John doesn't want six or seven.
00:27:24He doesn't want that sort of scoreline.
00:27:26Because they've not won, as I say, in the league.
00:27:29And you don't want that qualms to get knocked.
00:27:31Even though it's a cup tie and it's completely different.
00:27:33John will be well aware of that.
00:27:35You're probably calling these two guys to settle them down.
00:27:44Arfield gets a special welcome.
00:27:49Not just from the Falkirk supporters.
00:27:51Sorry, I used to get that from Celtic.
00:27:55Yeah, I used to get that from Celtic supporters too.
00:28:02Brian Graham, of course, with experience as well.
00:28:07As you say, Peter, not much they can do in terms of the outcome of the game.
00:28:10But for John McGlenn it's damage limitation.
00:28:14Yeah, the game was getting away from them.
00:28:17Munich could have been four or five in the first half, what we're talking about.
00:28:19Well, they have the ball in the Celtic half just now.
00:28:27They work it out to the right-hand side.
00:28:29Adams.
00:28:30Oh, what a goal.
00:28:31What a goal.
00:28:32What a goal from Keelan Adams.
00:28:36He just thundered that one with his right foot.
00:28:40Angled it high past Sinisalo into the top right corner of the goal.
00:28:46Quite a finish there from Keelan Adams.
00:28:49Well, he does against forward well.
00:28:51They worked it well, to be fair to them.
00:28:52Listen, he struck it ever so well, to be fair to the kid.
00:28:56Liam Scales is wanting to show him down the line, but he steps inside and then just hits it.
00:29:01Oh, he hits it early.
00:29:02That's the secret.
00:29:03Because he doesn't allow Liam Scales to adjust his feet again or Austin Trusted to get out to the ball.
00:29:07That's probably the only question mark.
00:29:09Could Austin Trusted have been a little bit closer with Liam Scales instead of going deeper?
00:29:13Because you don't get that out of the room in your own box to go deeper.
00:29:21So Falkirk get a goal back.
00:29:28Still a long way back for them with Celtic having got their four, but it will give them a little glimmer of something.
00:29:43Good play from Celtic out of defence. Scales now.
00:29:52Yang plays it across and cleared unconvincingly.
00:29:57That one will spin out for a corner to Celtic on the far side.
00:30:02But it's great to see Yang being positive.
00:30:04I felt in the earlier part of the season when he was getting the ball, he was looking to pass back all the time.
00:30:08Every time he's received it, so far since he's come on, he's went to the full-back.
00:30:12And that's so important.
00:30:13Celtic traditionally have all of us in white players doing it.
00:30:16I know it's slightly different now.
00:30:17But there's nothing better seeing a winger in full floor putting crosses in.
00:30:21And it's his thing, isn't it? That's his trademark. That's what he does.
00:30:25Call him a kick to Arnie Engels, an outswinger.
00:30:31Can he put in another one of these perfect deliveries?
00:30:34Oh, goodness me, it's another good delivery.
00:30:36Ball breaks.
00:30:37Look, McCown goes for a looping volley from the edge of the box.
00:30:41It breaks back to Alistair Johnson.
00:30:44Celtic will come again.
00:30:45Engels wide right now.
00:30:47Back inside to Forrest.
00:30:51Trusty.
00:30:53Scales.
00:30:56Celtic left back just now.
00:30:59Here's McGregor to Scales.
00:31:03Yang.
00:31:05Plays it inside.
00:31:07McCown just runs into the fall court player, but Scales is there to pick up the loose ball.
00:31:14Now McGregor.
00:31:16McCown across to Murray.
00:31:28Engels wide right.
00:31:30Crosses that one in towards the penalty spot.
00:31:33Kicked away and out for the Celtic throw.
00:31:38Quickly taken by Engels to McGregor.
00:31:42Hocker can get the ball up the field, but not as far as Dane Murray.
00:31:52Now Scales.
00:31:54Balls out for that Celtic throw-in on the near side.
00:31:56One thing you'll say about Dane Murray.
00:31:58Scored the goal with a head, but he's very much a ball-playing centre-half, isn't he?
00:32:02His range of passing has been excellent.
00:32:04Yeah, listen, I always say your centre-half doesn't matter how good they are, they can step out if they want.
00:32:08But see if they can pass the ball and somebody's on free and they can hit them.
00:32:10That's the secret of good players.
00:32:12Do the simple things well.
00:32:14He's done that ever so well.
00:32:16Oh, this is lovely.
00:32:17Lovely play from Celtic.
00:32:18Alistair Johnson's in for a second.
00:32:20Nice to set up Shin Yamada, but Scott Bain was there to get in the way of it.
00:32:24That was unselfish from Alistair Johnson.
00:32:27Yet again Shin Yamada, as you say, has been right in the centre of the box.
00:32:31Arne Engels tried to find him earlier.
00:32:33Now you have Alistair Johnson trying to do it.
00:32:35You can see they're desperate for any strikers to get the goal to give them that confidence.
00:32:40Very good play.
00:32:50Yeah, to be fair to Alistair Johnson, he was just nudged off that.
00:32:53Yeah, yeah. Off balance when he...
00:32:55Yeah, there was nothing wrong with the pass, yeah.
00:33:02Scales and Yang combining well.
00:33:10Four, two, three and four.
00:33:34Engels loses out that time but...
00:33:37Almost he's there to clear the danger.
00:33:41Yamada has Forrest chasing back to keep that one in play.
00:33:58I was out for a Celtic throw, I was questioning the stats that are doing the rounds about Shin Yamada,
00:34:05showing that he's actually quicker than Dyson Maeda, and someone sent me the irrefutable proof online that he is faster.
00:34:13I'm not sure whether he's got the engine and the willingness in the 95th minute to do the runs that Maeda does.
00:34:21We will see as it goes on, but he certainly has pace to burn.
00:34:26If he has that, I'm delighted if he's got the taste of burn, but as long as he can put the ball in the back,
00:34:30I don't care if he's as slow as me, Jerry, it'd be perfect.
00:34:35Jeffrey having a word with Engels and Spencer.
00:34:45I'm not quite sure it did the trick, but...
00:34:47Listen, I thought Arnie Engels has been excellent this game.
00:34:51You know, he's delivered, he's been excellent, he's worked ethic, he runs without the ball.
00:34:55And as I say, it's not easy for him at this moment in time.
00:34:59Negrin's come in and pre-season, he's been excellent and probably deserved to start ahead.
00:35:03And that's not down to just that there's Negrin's performance.
00:35:06And I think at this football club it was always based on who produces the good, starts the games.
00:35:12Blighton free kick, that'll be a yellow card against the substitute Connor Allen.
00:35:19Yeah, just thinking about the Engels-Negrin competition, it'd be fantastic if Celtic had quality competition like that.
00:35:25You want that in every position?
00:35:26Well, we have definitely that in the middle of the pitch because they're all quality.
00:35:29The six lads you could put in all of their positions.
00:35:32Bernardo have not seen much of this season, I'm a big supporter of him as well.
00:35:36And I think he's, for me personally, looking at it, I think he's the only one that can play the Callum role.
00:35:41Because other boys are more runners-forward all the time, even though Bernardo's more than capable of that.
00:35:45I think he's got that understanding in that position because it's not an easy position to play.
00:35:49And Engels-Negrin love running forward, Negrin love to run forward, Hattati.
00:35:54So I think Bernardo's only one that can play that role different from Callum.
00:36:03Scales out to Yang. Scales, goes forward.
00:36:07Some lifting footwork there from the defender.
00:36:09Oh, Engels again, thought about the shot.
00:36:12Gives it back to his captain, Johnson now out to it, Forrest.
00:36:16Forrest cuts inside, tries to play in.
00:36:19Johnson, can he keep this in?
00:36:21Well, the ball ricochets back off both players and it's gone behind.
00:36:24I think a corner kick's been awarded.
00:36:26I'd love to see Arnie Engels take one of those chances.
00:36:29We know he's got such a great shot on him.
00:36:31I think he made the right choice there.
00:36:33I always feel as if you're not set, and players can only dictate that when they're on the pitch.
00:36:37Well, talking about that competition, Benjamin Negrin,
00:36:41I think in another effort to get him more minutes, is about to come on.
00:36:44He's changing some pleasantries with his manager before Arnie Engels, who he may be replacing.
00:36:50Takes this corner, 15 minutes left, Celtic 4-1 ahead.
00:36:54Corner to the near post, headed away, back in.
00:36:58Kicked up towards the halfway line.
00:37:01Alistair Johnson, furthest man back for the hoops.
00:37:08It'll be interesting to see what Brendan does.
00:37:13Does he play Negrin and take James Forrest off?
00:37:16Does he give a couple of minutes for Callum?
00:37:19You know, because the other boys, Luke McCown and that have not played, Arnie Engels have not played many minutes, obviously.
00:37:27Now, of course, Negrin gives you that versatility of playing through the middle as a ten or out wide right.
00:37:35McCown finds scales.
00:37:42Yang back to scales.
00:37:45The willing run-up down the left is Engels.
00:37:49Space inside for McCown, this is a lovely play.
00:37:52Oh, Engels just off balance there with the left foot cross, it loops over the crossbar.
00:37:57He hits the Parkhead turf, changes will be made.
00:38:02And we will see Benjamin Negrin, and we will be seeing Paolo Bernardo on the Engels.
00:38:09Well, some of his deliveries from corners have been absolutely outstanding.
00:38:16So he will be replaced by Paolo Bernardo, and it looks like Negrin might go out wide right because James Forrest is coming off.
00:38:23Yeah, I thought that would be the case.
00:38:25You've seen him in that few minutes out at Petaudry out there as well, but I think James is going to be so important,
00:38:31you know, especially at Celtic Park in the European game, you know, playing with that pace and directness to run the opposition back.
00:38:37You don't want anything to happen to him when fatigue can kick in.
00:38:41Obviously, he's getting older, we understand that, but he's a hell of a lot of the ball, he's made a hell of a lot of runs,
00:38:45and you don't want to pick up that injury late in the game for just giving him minutes and seeing the game out.
00:38:55So a double change then for Celtic.
00:39:01Oh, Scales clicked from behind, another yellow card there.
00:39:09Brian Graham.
00:39:11Brian Graham.
00:39:13The culprit.
00:39:15Yeah, I think it's a definite yellow card, there's no doubt of that.
00:39:21There's no doubt of that.
00:39:28So a final change for Falkirk, this will be the team that Celtic finish with, manager having made his five changes.
00:39:33Gary Oliver coming on for Tate.
00:39:4578 minutes gone, Celtic pretty much assured of being in the draw for the next round.
00:39:53There are some games on Sunday, but the draw is going to be tomorrow night.
00:40:00After the Alowa game.
00:40:09It's not the secret that's been in the cup, it's always been in it.
00:40:12Yeah, get your name in the hat.
00:40:14So what?
00:40:15Did they ever use a hat?
00:40:16Anyway, for another day.
00:40:17Paul McStay maybe.
00:40:18Celtic coming forward.
00:40:21Oh, a little bit of miscommunication there.
00:40:24Yang and Bernardo.
00:40:27Both went the same way and McEwen's pass went the other way.
00:40:32I think Yang done the right thing, he was holding his position.
00:40:35He thought he was going to go off because Luke couldn't get out from underneath his feet at first.
00:40:39And then when he made the run he was trying to check back so he wouldn't be offside, so he's made the right decision.
00:40:43But then obviously unfortunately just gave possession away.
00:40:46Paulo Bernardo, I watched him in the Euros for the 21s and I thought he was excellent playing for Portugal.
00:40:58Playing the role he captained him.
00:40:59Yeah, he's captain in the Portuguese under-21 team.
00:41:01I know he's a bit older now, but I thought his performances were excellent.
00:41:06Good play from Yang again, perhaps the wrong option with the pass.
00:41:11Celtic trying to win it back effectively, but free kick goes against Alistair Johnson.
00:41:20Next three games for Celtic, FC Kairat, Livingston, FC Kairat.
00:41:38Is Kazakhstan ever a country that you've played in, Peter?
00:41:41No, unfortunately Cochstein.
00:41:43Why unfortunately?
00:41:45Oh, a gob!
00:41:47Sorry I'm not laughing at that, I'm just laughing at the way you describe it.
00:41:52With Kazakhstan, Sreenal, it was a bad night at the off as well as yesterday.
00:41:57Oh, for the national team?
00:41:58Yes, yes.
00:41:59Sorry, I forgot about that one.
00:42:01The biggest thing was the time difference in that, Jerry, trying to live where it is, you know.
00:42:06Apart from performance, it's not easy.
00:42:09Where Celtic are going to is practically on the border with China.
00:42:13Yes.
00:42:14It's a long way away.
00:42:16So that's why getting the job done as much as you can in the first leg is important.
00:42:20Great play once again by Yang.
00:42:22His runs have been really effective since he's come on, he's got such a burst of pace.
00:42:27He's won a corner.
00:42:29I think that's the thing, Jerry, I thought when his performances turned last year, this is what he'd done.
00:42:34I thought earlier he was a bit pedestrian in the respect, if you just give the ball back, go on.
00:42:40You've got a willingness to lose the ball.
00:42:42As a wide player at Celtic.
00:42:44Corner kick from Negrin near post, scales.
00:42:48More sight of the ball, it's cleared up towards the halfway line, just cleared into space, Falkirk.
00:42:53Players really know that, barring a miracle, this game is over for them.
00:42:59They've got a long season ahead as they try to survive in Scotland's top flight.
00:43:05This cup run for them is a bit of a Brucey bonus.
00:43:10Here's Yang again.
00:43:13Combines with scales.
00:43:16Bernardo now.
00:43:17Alistair Johnson.
00:43:22McGregor.
00:43:24Scales.
00:43:31De Drosti.
00:43:40Well, corner kick is given, it was lovely play from Paulo Bernardo, he couldn't get the ball to sit down for the shot,
00:43:52but he did enough to win Celtic at corner.
00:43:55He's just intelligent, he passes and moves, he always seems at the one pace,
00:43:59but he always seems to do the right thing and get there.
00:44:02He was a bit unfortunate there, as you said, tender deflection.
00:44:07Corner kick, Negrin.
00:44:09In Swinger from the Swede, ball breaks, edge of the area.
00:44:13First one there for Celtic is Dane Murray.
00:44:16McCown now out wide left as Austin Trustee, back inside to McCown.
00:44:26Out wide right is Negrin.
00:44:31McGregor to Scales.
00:44:33It's interesting to be talking about players getting substituted and rested in too many games and whatever,
00:44:42and you've got Callum McGregor still playing near north every minute, every game.
00:44:45I think that's great credit to him, his body's used to it, his mentality is that as well, he's used to playing all the games.
00:44:51Great play from Liam Scales under a bit of pressure there, shows some nifty footwork and composure.
00:44:59Celtic have worked the ball up to the right wing, Negrin running.
00:45:03McCown still got the ball in the box, across and cleared away, but not convincingly, this will be kept in by Callum McGregor.
00:45:12Negrin inside to Bernardo, gives that one away but gets it straight back.
00:45:22Now Scales.
00:45:24McGregor out to Yang.
00:45:36Oh, almost, uh,
00:45:39dummied himself but, uh, managed to stay on his feet.
00:45:43Brilliant reaction from the team.
00:45:47And again.
00:45:59Yeah, great early season form from these Celtic players.
00:46:04Negrin, the new signing, again cutting in from the right, cuts it back, Alistair Johnson's cross is way too high.
00:46:12There's not much that Yang can do to fashion a chance from that.
00:46:28Almost on the 85 minute mark.
00:46:34Scott Bain gets ready to launch a goal kick upfield for Falkirk.
00:46:37He's in Maeda, Alistair Johnson, Dane Murray on the score sheet for the Hoops tonight.
00:46:44A known goal as well for Falkirk.
00:46:48Celtic now looking for a fifth.
00:46:51Yamada does well, brings it down.
00:46:54Negrin plays a nice little one-two but a heavy touch from the Swede gives it away.
00:46:59Trusty collects for Celtic.
00:47:01Scales wide left.
00:47:02Negrin.
00:47:03Doesn't really have a position on the pitch, loves to just drift away and be there for the ball.
00:47:20I think this flexibility within the team, good players find space but there always seems to be someone in the position they're supposed to be in.
00:47:29I think that's the beauty of good players.
00:47:31The team still looks balanced because even if Negrin's over the left-hand side and then Luke McGowan slips outside.
00:47:37And that's what good players see on the football pitch, they never leave areas empty.
00:47:41They have positions, yes, but the team know I'll just fill in here and he'll fill in here.
00:47:46And that's what they've done very, very well.
00:47:48And I think that's what your manager and your coaching staff do throughout pre-season.
00:47:53People think it's repetitive, repetitive, but it's so, so important.
00:48:09Free kick given against Benjamin Negrin.
00:48:18Brendan Rodgers hoping for reinforcements to his squad before the transfer window closes at 7pm on the 1st of September.
00:48:34But credit to the players that are here for the early season form and qualities that they are showing as the cross there into the area is headed away by Alistair Johnson.
00:48:47Falkert still threatening in the Celtic box.
00:48:51Nesbitt trying to find a teammate, but I think showing the commitment there.
00:48:55Every single Celtic player on the pitch inside their own 18-yard box.
00:48:59Yeah, it was interesting. Even at the back post I was watching Shin there and he defended like a full-back.
00:49:04He was inside the white player and it was a danger of going there, but he was defending with his life and making sure that the attacker wasn't going to get across him.
00:49:10So great credit to him and these wee details, these are the things that will please the manager.
00:49:15He'll be disappointed he's lost the goal, that'll be a big disappointment for him even though it was a fantastic finish.
00:49:21And so will Sinasalo because of that, Sinasalo because of it.
00:49:27Goalkeepers want clean sheets, defenders want clean sheets.
00:49:33And supporters just want three points and cup wins.
00:49:43That's what they're getting so far.
00:49:45I think you can hear even with the support, the noise, the support singing and whatever, and it's been noisy all evening.
00:49:54Because the boys have put Falkert under constant pressure.
00:49:57Negrin.
00:50:03Cross header there from Yang.
00:50:07Past the post.
00:50:09A couple of minutes plus added on time, most of that will be for all of the second-half substitutions.
00:50:15Now, the only player we haven't seen tonight that you may have expected was Adam Eder.
00:50:35Do you think that's with a view of starting him against Kairat?
00:50:39Yeah, there's always that possibility.
00:50:41Listen, I think at the end of the day, I think that there's a player in there, there's a goal scorer in there.
00:50:47If you create chances, strikers are always going to have that opportunity when they miss or going to score.
00:50:54They have to have that runner for them.
00:50:56People are always questioning because of the price.
00:50:58I understand that.
00:50:59But I said that as a young man.
00:51:01As a Celtic striker, you're judged every 90 minutes.
00:51:04Or every 60 minutes as it is nowadays.
00:51:07Unfortunately, the ball's not broke for him.
00:51:09He's worked really hard.
00:51:10But you need that quality to link up.
00:51:13Players got to get better.
00:51:15But I think he's been in good positions.
00:51:17McCowan trying to give that one back to Negrin, who goes down inside the box.
00:51:22Corner kick.
00:51:23I think that's probably the right decision.
00:51:25Good challenge in the end.
00:51:27Negrin, no fuss.
00:51:30Gets up.
00:51:31Goes across to take the set piece.
00:51:44Final few seconds of the 90.
00:51:45Delivery there from Negrin.
00:51:46Not quite of the Arne Engel's quality, but...
00:51:50Just the two minutes added, I think that's a little bit of a sympathy vote for Falkirk.
00:52:00Jon will be delighted at that.
00:52:02Jon will be delighted at that.
00:52:03Yeah, Jon will be delighted at that.
00:52:05Still can Celtic get a fifth goal.
00:52:09And added on time.
00:52:11They have the ball down the left-hand side.
00:52:13Lost in trusty.
00:52:14Back to McGregor.
00:52:16It's a good job done.
00:52:18Certainly a lot more...
00:52:21comfortable a night than it was in this competition against this side at this stadium last season.
00:52:28Yeah, even considering it was 5-2, we'd probably say ourselves it wasn't a 5-2 game.
00:52:33Negrin.
00:52:34No breaks.
00:52:35Cleared away.
00:52:36Arnfield over there.
00:52:37Just needs the throw in.
00:52:38Alistair Johnson getting the man of the match.
00:52:43Something like that.
00:52:44He scored a fantastic goal.
00:52:45It was a free kick, surely.
00:52:46Referee standing there watching it.
00:52:47I don't know what he's pointing.
00:52:48Blatant pull back on Yang there, but...
00:52:49What are you hope?
00:52:52Negrin?
00:52:55On the right, last one of the man is looking for quiere,
00:53:12handç©¢,
00:53:17Negrin on the right, last chance perhaps for a fifth.
00:53:23McEwen.
00:53:27Falkirk defender at close proximity, got in McEwen's way,
00:53:31and the free kick goes Falkirk's way, and I think that will be that.
00:53:37No clean sheet for Celtic tonight, and fair play to
00:53:41it. Keelan Adams for his expert finish, but it really was all Celtic from start to finish.
00:53:48Yeah, absolutely, I'm glad you're delighted with the boys that's come in,
00:53:51it's not been playing games, their attitude's been first class,
00:53:54they deserve the victory, could be a lot more comfortable,
00:53:57you know, the only disappointment is losing the goal, get through with no injuries,
00:54:00that's so important, move on, in the cup, it's all that we get through the next round,
00:54:05and that's what they've done fantastically well.
00:54:11A fantastic finish for Alistair Johnson as well, I think that's why he's getting
00:54:16mine in a match, he finished it like a striker, a young man, fantastic for him,
00:54:22Darren Muddy, because you sign that contract, you think that's as good as it can get,
00:54:26then you get a goal that evening.
00:54:28So job done from Alistair Johnson and Coe, Frizen Maeda got his season off to a scoring start in the first half,
00:54:471-0 at half-time, quickly became 2-0 for that man there with a really good curling left-foot shot,
00:54:57getting special praise from his manager, Dane Murray, got the thug, headed in,
00:55:02run on the angles corner, and on goal from Liam Henderson, made it 4-0,
00:55:09before Falk have got their consolation goal, Celtic into the third round,
00:55:17into the last eight of the League Cup, they draw tomorrow evening,
00:55:22Celtic will find out who they will meet and where, but all concentration now,
00:55:26Peter goes on a huge home match against Kazakhstani champions FC Kairat of Almaty,
00:55:36it's not a place I know, it's not a team I know, we all think about Astana and that game
00:55:41when they came here, Celtic won 5-0, but still made hard work of it over in Kazakhstan,
00:55:46would you think that Celtic need to be taking some sort of convincing lead over?
00:55:51Oh, this team's capable of going anywhere and winning games, that's what I feel,
00:55:56you know, the players they have and they're playing at their best,
00:55:58but I think it's a game that you have to be at your best, you have to be concentrated,
00:56:03because you get into these countries, because we don't know the players,
00:56:07sometimes we'd say, oh, Kazakhstan, as if it's a football backwater, please blame me,
00:56:12they've got some very interesting players and that's the problem you have,
00:56:15if you give up chances there's a possibility that we'll score goals, this team will be prepared,
00:56:20as if it's the toughest team they're going to play in the competition,
00:56:22because that's the way Brendan and his staff will look at it,
00:56:25the biggest thing is probably the travelling for me, that's it,
00:56:28people don't realise how important that's how you've got to change everything,
00:56:31you know, and it's going to be important, but the players will be well versed in that,
00:56:35they've played in big games now, they're more than capable of it,
00:56:39but you'll have to put in a performance, the concentration levels will be there,
00:56:42you conceded a goal at night, there was a couple of wee half chances here and there,
00:56:46if you don't get aim right on evening, it could be a tough night, but I think this team's more than
00:56:51capable over the two legs of obviously winning.
00:56:54just on that time difference, I know when Celtic went to Kazakhstan last time, they kept the players
00:56:59in UK time in their heads and the way they went about their work over there, and of course that
00:57:05allows them when they then kick off, to feel as if they're kicking off in the afternoon,
00:57:10Kazakhstani teams don't have that ability when they come over here, because if they stay in their own
00:57:14time, then it's the middle of the night when they're playing a game, so therefore they're tired,
00:57:18so they have to adapt to a new time zone very quickly, and I wonder whether it makes it easier
00:57:23for Celtic and more difficult for the Kazakhstani team. I must admit, I thought it was horrendous,
00:57:27I liked to have been playing, I was obviously a coach at the time, and we went to do it,
00:57:31and I thought it was really tough, we tried to do that, that you, when it was daylight,
00:57:36everybody's getting up for their work in Kazakhstan, we're going to bed, and I found it really impossible,
00:57:41I wasn't playing in the game, but I could only feel how the players were feeling, but I understand
00:57:45the science behind it, and it's so important, but I think these guys have been so used to
00:57:50preparing for matches, they've got a different focus now, they've got a different understanding,
00:57:55and as you say, it's not as if you're there for X, Y and Z period of tenure, you're never finding out
00:58:00in the respect of that, but the travel going, and to and from, I felt was the hard part as well,
00:58:06because it's, I don't know how long the flight was, but it seemed as if it was like,
00:58:10if I say half a day, more than half a day, because of the time difference, once you start
00:58:15travelling all of a sudden you're getting to the other side of the world, it seems as if it's been
00:58:1924 hours you've been travelling, and that's sometimes a mental thing more than anything else.
00:58:22Well that's what Kairat will have to face first, because it's a home leg first for Celtic in the
00:58:27Champions League play-off next Wednesday, and of course these Champions League games,
00:58:33you can't watch them live on Celtic TV, we've got live commentary for you,
00:58:39so if you want to listen to the live commentary, we'll be there for that, and you'll get to see the
00:58:44full match later that evening, but it's job done tonight, Paul Cut came, but Celtic swept them
00:58:50away in the second round of the League Cup, full time here, thanks for your company, Peter Grant,
00:58:55and to all those watching around the world, it's Celtic 4, all-cut 1.
00:59:11Celtic all the champions!
00:59:41.
01:00:11.
01:00:41.
01:00:43.
01:00:45.
01:00:47.
01:00:49.
01:00:51.
01:00:53.
01:00:55.
01:00:57.
