00:00:00Peter Grant, and first, Gerry McDade.
00:00:02Thanks to Simon and Gerry, I can tell you that Thomas Schwantzera is coming on in the second half.
00:00:08This is a move that you were predicting at half-time, Peter?
00:00:11Yeah, I just thought that you maybe look at, I don't know if it's Tenectic that's come off,
00:00:15I'm surprised that maybe the Tenectic comes off and moves as maybe to the left-hand side.
00:00:19You know, just to be a wee bit more on the front foot and put pressure on the opposite full
00:00:25-back.
00:00:26But Simon and Gerry are right, this is going to be a massive second half at some point.
00:00:30To be fair, I'm quite surprised Alex Todd-Chamberlund, because I've seen him lumping at half-time as well,
00:00:36so it'll be interesting to see how he gets on in the second half, plus he's already on a yellow
00:00:41card,
00:00:42and he's given a free kick away, so his next one he's got to be careful.
00:00:45I think all of that points to the Aucs maybe getting a run out in the second half as we
00:00:50get underway.
00:00:50Once again, Thomas Schwantzera does come into the Celtic side for the second half.
00:00:56Sebastian Tenectic drops to the bench, and we can see right away how that formation is lining up, Peter.
00:01:03Yeah, it's just exactly what you said, Maida come left, Thomas up the middle, Yang on the right-hand side.
00:01:09It'll be interesting because Mother will try to drag you in, and like Thomas has not obviously got the pace
00:01:13of Mieda,
00:01:14so he's got to make sure that he puts himself at more position.
00:01:17We say, just play central, don't go chasing centre-backs, because it takes out areas and they'll be able to
00:01:22play around about you.
00:01:22Well, he's on the ball just now, I think he's won a free kick immediately, coming on to Park on
00:01:28the far side.
00:01:29Celtic Park bathed in sunshine out on that side.
00:01:35Schwantzera has moved into the middle, as the ball goes back to Arthur, just inside his own half.
00:01:39He squares it to Scales, captain for the day once again, to Schwantzera, back to go.
00:01:45Leads it off to Hattati, he plays it down the channel.
00:01:49Tierney lobs one into Negan, goes over the top, and Ward has to be quick on that one.
00:01:56The message is about, I would stay right in now.
00:01:58I wouldn't allow Mother will get the first pass, just go one for one.
00:02:00You have to, because if you don't, and you give them too much time,
00:02:03they've proven so far, they'll go out time and time again.
00:02:06There again, you put them under pressure, you give their ball back.
00:02:08Absolutely, you can see that in action there.
00:02:10But they, in turn, win the ball back.
00:02:12Benjamin Negrin stays on the ground, player rolls on.
00:02:15Tierney knocks the header back towards the D.
00:02:19I'll tell you, Benjamin Negrin still on the ground, inside the mother will half.
00:02:22He's back on his feet, but he's limping gingerly.
00:02:26Well, nowadays, nine times out of ten, any tackle for behind is a free kick.
00:02:31Duly noted, Peter.
00:02:34Attati back to Scales.
00:02:36Down towards Maeda, now playing on this left-hand side, he knocks it into Chibanchera.
00:02:41The check striker advances forward, does well, retains possession.
00:02:45It's been Martial all the way by side, the challenge comes in, Mother will do once again well to break
00:02:49the line.
00:02:52It goes all the way back, Chibanchera will put pressure on.
00:02:55John Beaton thought that calling it back.
00:02:57Now Oxlade-Chamberlain, the centre of the pitch to Attati, he tried to play the nice ball inside.
00:03:01Yang spins towards goal, heading towards the goal line, plays it back inside, Chibanchera has it.
00:03:06Tries to get the ball up, going inside the box, but it breaks the don of it out on the
00:03:10far side.
00:03:11He goes in, challenge comes out from Langella, out it goes, Celtic have a throw in.
00:03:14And right from the get-go in the second half, Celtic are applying the pressure.
00:03:18Absolutely, that's what they've got to do, stay in there, don't back off.
00:03:21We're not always told that, once you've got them in, hem them in as much as you possibly can.
00:03:25Yes, you've got to be concentrated at the back because Mother will use the pace and mass when he's to
00:03:29get out of trouble.
00:03:30But that's what you've got to do if you're a good centre-back, you've got to be concentrated on that
00:03:34turnover of play.
00:03:35Well, you can see every Celtic player pressing, as soon as the ball goes to a Mother will player, as
00:03:39it does now in the back line.
00:03:41Watt plays it out to Langella, he's got two Celtic players around him.
00:03:44He does well, drops it inside, the Celtic get the challenge in once again, it breaks to Chinbara.
00:03:4820 yards from goal, there's right foot, he drops it inside to Negan, Negan tries to get back onto his
00:03:52left foot.
00:03:53Why on earth did Big Tan not take a shot, Peter?
00:03:55Oh, even though he doesn't, I think he's made the right call, but Negan shouldn't take it back, he shouldn't
00:04:00turn, he's got to score.
00:04:01Mother will now on the attack, it's 20 yards out, it's a super strike, super save, but it breaks to
00:04:05Slatterley, it comes off Tierney, but Mother will still in possession of the attack.
00:04:12Breaks to Watt on the edge of the box, he drops it in slightly to Slatterley, now to side, wanted
00:04:18to go onto that left foot, which he does now, but he's forced out wide.
00:04:22Can Celtic get the ball clear, Yang has him away with it, steps over, does well, takes the ball for
00:04:27a run, he's inside the half, it's two against two for Celtic at the moment.
00:04:30Yang has Cervantara on the right hand side, but he has to check back, he's surrounded by too many players,
00:04:34does well to get the ball off to Maida, Maida rides the challenge, beautifully, he's heading up towards the box
00:04:39inside to Negan, Negan to Cervantara, too much going on here, but Cervantara retains possession.
00:04:47Frustration coming around Celtic Park, but you have to say in these opening four minutes, that's more like it, Celtic
00:04:51back on the ball again, Negan takes a shot, and it's off the post, took a deflection.
00:04:58What a little break, you can hear everyone in Celtic Park, getting to the field, I'd love to see that
00:05:02one again, Peter.
00:05:03Yeah, but I can't believe the one prior, he's got to score the one prior, why he takes, I don't
00:05:07know what he does, why he turns down the opportunity, but a great shot there, takes a slight deflection for
00:05:12sure.
00:05:14But, Sinasalo gets that one away well, and it's a good block with Kieran Tierney.
00:05:20But this was the one, he's got to score, he just keeps on at his right foot, I know he's
00:05:25left footed, but just, the defender can't get near you then, he's got to come through you.
00:05:29Well, the great thing about Benjamin Negrin, as he gets into these positions, Peter, we hope he gets into a
00:05:34few more than this afternoon.
00:05:36The Celtic goal chasing the victory, the three points, we'll take them closer to Harps at the top of the
00:05:40table, but Muddle coming forward once again, challenge coming in, and the yellow card coming out for young Colby Donham.
00:05:47I think he's got unfortunate in there, Peter.
00:05:50No, I think Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's fortunate because he thinks about going to tackle him, I can understand the fans'
00:05:56frustration in not going to tackle him, but he's already on a yellow card.
00:05:59Then Colby Donovan's caught, really.
00:06:02You know, but you think there's that big chance again, and Negrin hits it, I think it comes off him
00:06:06again and spins off the post.
00:06:08Yep, deflection.
00:06:08But the one thing about Negrin, he keeps going in there, but he's had two massive opportunities that I feel
00:06:14when he looks back in the end of the game,
00:06:17he'd have been delighted, he'd have been delighted to get these opportunities again, and I'm sure he'd have scored them.
00:06:22Well, Benji Negrin certainly in the face of John Beaton there, as Muller will get the free kick.
00:06:28Back to the halfway line.
00:06:32That's a bad injury.
00:06:35Back to Negrin, steps inside, clips a ball over the top to be chased down by Langdello, takes it nicely
00:06:40down on the chest with Dolan's with him, but he's offside anyway.
00:06:43Donovan gets on with the action quickly, Celtic in a hurry this afternoon now into the second half.
00:06:48Celtic 1, Motherwell 1, five minutes, six minutes played of the second half.
00:06:52Celtic have already rattled the post.
00:06:55Sinisalo was also called upon to make an excellent save down to his left hand side.
00:07:02The thing I'm a little bit concerned, and I know I've mentioned that just after half-time, is Alex Osley
00:07:06-Chamberlain, I must admit, because of the way Muller will are playing,
00:07:10it leaves him in a 1v1 situation a couple of times, and Muller will move the ball quickly, we don't
00:07:16want to go down and lose a man.
00:07:17So I think Martin's got to be looking at that, looking at Bernardo at a real rate anyway.
00:07:22Yes.
00:07:23But you don't want to go down to ten players, not when Muller can play like this, because they will
00:07:26find the spare player all the time.
00:07:27Yep.
00:07:28Well, they're finding the spare player against 11, as you say Peter, so let's see what happens.
00:07:32There's a great ball out to Yang, takes it down on the chest, Donovan sets off on the overlap, but
00:07:37Yang cuts inside,
00:07:39leaves it off to Negrun, Negrun back to goal, try to get it back to Yang, slatterly there, does the
00:07:43360, looks to play it down into this pocket,
00:07:47down on this right hand side, scales, goes across, does well, takes the challenge in the back from Marwanisi, and
00:07:53wins the free kick again, Peter, I have to ask, why is that not a yellow card?
00:07:58I think he's kicked, I must admit, if it's my team I wouldn't be wanting a yellow card, I must
00:08:04admit, but fair play to Liam Scales,
00:08:07because that's exactly what I'm saying, Muller will turn the ball over quickly, they're trying to get that 1v1 situation
00:08:11with Marwanisi,
00:08:12but Liam Scales done very well there, and showed the great pace actually, because he got across there first, got
00:08:17the free kick, and he's defended ever so well.
00:08:21Negrun comes again, Scales, flips one over the top, Maeda lets it run to Tierney, Tierney tries to play the
00:08:28lob pass into Maeda,
00:08:30but the ball breaks once again, and Muller will pick it up. It's a slight pass though, Negrun picks it
00:08:36up, advances towards goal,
00:08:38looks at the options, plays it into Javantara, he has his back to go, gives it to Negrun, he plays
00:08:41out to Donovan,
00:08:42thought about the first time shot, goes for the second time shot, it cannons off just, Donovan goes in for
00:08:47the challenge, just does well though,
00:08:49rides the challenge, wins the ball, Maeda will look into break clear, once again Negrun goes in to get the
00:08:53challenge,
00:08:54he's keeping his attentions quite tight, and I don't really get why that's a free kick, I have to be
00:08:59honest Peter, he's kept himself tight there, but he hasn't really committed a foul.
00:09:03No, and I think the player's still in possession of the ball, he's still going to do the same thing,
00:09:07he's still in possession.
00:09:09Soft. Yeah, of course it is.
00:09:16Yang picks up the spare pass, hits Langello down that side, looks to chance, get right onto the line and
00:09:23get a ball in but out it goes for the goal kick.
00:09:27See, I think Yang could have got that decision there, I think the linesman wasn't 100% sure the referee
00:09:31was looking at the linesman and Yang didn't claim for it.
00:09:34I think if he goes at that old one who used to be, we used to get told to claim
00:09:37for everything.
00:09:39Yeah, I think he needs to be a little bit more cute as you say.
00:09:42There's Oxley-Chamberlain intercepts the ball, comes across the halfway line, lays it off to Tierney-Tierney,
00:09:47Gallucs forward, lays it off to Maeda on this left-hand side, he heads on down towards the touchline and
00:09:52the goal,
00:09:52flicks across, a ball across, and it's palmed away by the goalkeeper with Negrun lingering with intent.
00:10:01But that's much more like it Peter.
00:10:03Yeah well, as I said, playing much higher up the pitch, Alex Aldrich-Chamberlain in possession of the ball has
00:10:08been outstanding.
00:10:09But what we've just got to be in, as I said, won it again when they broke,
00:10:13it was leaving him 1v1 in the middle of the pitch and you can see he was a little, the
00:10:16fans were a little bit saying well why you're not going tight?
00:10:18I can understand that because you're leaving yourself isolated in a 1v1 situation that if the player does go by
00:10:24you,
00:10:25but if you give a free kick away, it's a red card.
00:10:30Oh, once again, doing well to come out of the press and key in possession.
00:10:33Faddinger has it now, plays it down on that far side.
00:10:38Real chance to get the ball into the box, it breaks all the way back towards the halfway line.
00:10:43Faddinger picks it up but he has to turn towards the goal, leaves it off to Yang on the far
00:10:47side,
00:10:47he steps into the heart of the pitch, leaves it off to Oxlade-Chamberlain.
00:10:52Clips a ball out to Tierney, takes it down first time.
00:10:56Drops it into Hattati, he's still inside his own half though.
00:10:59Tierney plays it back to Scales.
00:11:01Arthur wants it, wants to take it forward.
00:11:03Donovan wants it out on the right-hand side, gets it, receives it, takes a touch, leaves it into the
00:11:09path of Yang,
00:11:10who goes back to Arthur. Peter Grant urging Celtic to come forward here as they play the ball back across.
00:11:17I just think when Yang gets it, he's a 1v1, just go and be positive, don't go back the way.
00:11:25Well, we talked about the legacy of Jimmy Johnson, the lads were talking about in the studio at half-time,
00:11:29you would give your eye teeth to have someone that would attack like that in this Celtic forwardman.
00:11:37To be fair, Yang usually is positive, but I don't know if he just got catched in a breather, to
00:11:41be fair to the kid,
00:11:42he'd run 70 yards twice there in quick succession to get possession.
00:11:48So I'll give him benefit of the doubt that time.
00:11:50Celtic retain possession, come forward once again, it's Donovan, plays it down to Negrin, out on the right-hand side,
00:11:56he's got Yang just behind him, he plays it to Oxlade-Chamberlain, touch back to Donovan,
00:12:01and just take his eye off the ball for a second there, but he gets it back, gives it to
00:12:05Arthur,
00:12:06Arthur down to Yang, that third of the way inside, the mother will hop in that far side,
00:12:11he tries to cut inside, super-challenge comes in once again, another will look to break with the ball,
00:12:17Spadinger goes all the way back to his goalkeeper.
00:12:19Spadinger goes in to get the challenge,
00:12:23he holds up towards the halfway line, Tierney now, keeps it back all the way to Sinisala,
00:12:28he lays it out to his captain, Liam Scales,
00:12:32and Herrishman brings it forward,
00:12:35and he plays it back to Arthur, Donovan, once again out on the right-hand side,
00:12:39seeing plenty of the ball in the second half, he plays it inside to Spadinger,
00:12:43who was a big farm to Oxlade-Chamberlain,
00:12:45who was all the way back, Sinisala has it just outside the D,
00:12:48he clips a good ball into Donovan, he surely should be offside if he can reach on to that one,
00:12:53he's done well to keep it in the youngster,
00:12:55and he plays it across the goal, and it's taken comfortably into the midriff of Callum Moore,
00:12:59but great work from young Donovan.
00:13:01Yeah, it was a great ball from Sinisala, he's definitely on because he's run from deep,
00:13:04and he'll be disappointed on the cross because he's got the quality,
00:13:07Big Thomas has made a great run towards the front, you've made it back,
00:13:10he'll just be disappointed with the final ball.
00:13:14Play rages on once again, Slattery picks it up,
00:13:17and leaves it down to Sparrow on the near side,
00:13:19he comes up towards the halfway line,
00:13:22plays it back to Slattery once again, to Watt,
00:13:26Slattery goes back the way,
00:13:28Donald back to the goalkeeper, Watt taking up that high position once again,
00:13:33plays it out.
00:13:39Clipped the ball over towards Sparrow on the touch line,
00:13:41he knocks it back in side to side, gets it back, Sparrow,
00:13:45back to side,
00:13:46challenge is coming in though,
00:13:48ball was out for a throw in,
00:13:50I would have thought that was a throw in to Celtic,
00:13:52and certainly Mark Manuel did, but Mother will have it,
00:13:54in possession.
00:13:56That's what I mean old school, you clean for the end.
00:14:00I think wrong with the old school,
00:14:03might have been something wrong with that throw in though,
00:14:04the crowd down below is in the stand,
00:14:06we're certainly shouting for it,
00:14:08as it is the ball, it's hung high up into there,
00:14:10and back into the Celtic half side,
00:14:12he picks it up, he's got it all the way back to the halfway line,
00:14:14plays a nice pass that's intercepted by Hitati,
00:14:17does well,
00:14:18just for a second,
00:14:20I thought we were under pressure there,
00:14:21Sinesal has to go to ground to get rid of it,
00:14:23Jabara, Janvanchara can't take it down,
00:14:26and now Mother will have possession once again,
00:14:28just inside the Roanha,
00:14:29into the centre circle, played inside,
00:14:31nice ball, Slattery picks it up,
00:14:34skips away from Maeda,
00:14:37he's got Sparrow down on this near side,
00:14:39he knocks it back inside for what?
00:14:42Time and possession here for Mother will,
00:14:45nice turn away by Slattery,
00:14:47tries to click cutely across, after scoops it out,
00:14:50Javanchara gets the header, but it's going to break once again
00:14:52to somebody in a yellow jersey,
00:14:54and now Sparrow picks it up,
00:14:55halfway inside the Celtic half,
00:14:57he's supposed to play it back to O'Donnell,
00:15:00side now, 25 yards from goal,
00:15:02down to the touchline to Sparrow,
00:15:04back to side,
00:15:05taken inside just now,
00:15:07trying to get onto that left foot,
00:15:09scooped it up, it's bouncing about the area,
00:15:11Sinisal picks it up, immediately rolls it out
00:15:13to Yang and Celtic once again,
00:15:15they're on the attack, but they have to get men forward here
00:15:17to support Yang, it's down to Javanchara,
00:15:20Yang wants it back,
00:15:21Javanchara knocks it down to Yang,
00:15:23he's heading out towards the corner fly,
00:15:26holds back, gives it to Donovan,
00:15:28Donovan, plenty of space,
00:15:30plays it out to Hattati,
00:15:31deep inside the mother will half,
00:15:34he sprays a pass out to Tierney,
00:15:36takes it on the left foot,
00:15:37tries to play it across, into the box,
00:15:40just not clear,
00:15:41Celtic putting the pressure on once again,
00:15:45Slatter does well, escapes from Hattati,
00:15:48absorbing game this Peter,
00:15:4960 minutes on the clock,
00:15:51and it's an entertaining, absorbing game of football.
00:15:53Definitely in,
00:15:55let's see, Muller will have found a way to get back into the game,
00:15:57I thought Celtic started the second half very, very well,
00:16:00but now Muller will have regained control a little bit.
00:16:05Do indeed walk away from the challenge,
00:16:07Maeda does well though,
00:16:08he's under pressure,
00:16:09plays it back to his captain,
00:16:10crude, crude challenge,
00:16:12coming in Dyson Maeda,
00:16:14well, I think Saeed's down clutching his face,
00:16:16Maeda protesting his innocence of course,
00:16:19just a coming together there I think Peter.
00:16:27What do you make of that one?
00:16:29Well he couldn't have seen Ty coming in behind him could he?
00:16:32I think that's what he's doing,
00:16:34he's going to come in that direction,
00:16:35and he's actually...
00:16:46Looking for a penalty there as well I think.
00:16:49Celtic will make another substitution though,
00:16:52Luke McCown will be coming on,
00:16:54and Benjamin Negrin, well, I said he had a goal threat in him,
00:16:57he certainly has with 19 for the season,
00:16:58but he won't be getting his 20th today,
00:17:00as Luke McCown comes into the free Peter,
00:17:02your thoughts on that one?
00:17:04I'm a little bit surprised I must admit,
00:17:06I'm a big Negrin fan,
00:17:08and I think the big thing about him,
00:17:09he's always a goal threat, he never gives in,
00:17:12even though he's had a couple of chances,
00:17:13I'd expect him to score today,
00:17:15but Luke played that position exceptionally well,
00:17:18and Stuttgart,
00:17:20you know, but as I say,
00:17:21I'm more interested in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain,
00:17:23the way Muller will play, that's the only thing,
00:17:25because they've got good players who can skip by,
00:17:27and if you're left as a 1v1 set nation in there,
00:17:31defensively,
00:17:31it could be a worry,
00:17:32and I know Alex won maybe three kick away,
00:17:34that's the only thing. Yeah, I have to say,
00:17:36I'm surprised myself,
00:17:37when I saw it was Luke coming on,
00:17:39I immediately assumed it was Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain,
00:17:42but the Englishman remains on the park,
00:17:44and he remains a goal threat,
00:17:46we've seen what he can do at Celtic Park,
00:17:47as Maida rides away from the challenge,
00:17:49wonderful play from the Japanese player,
00:17:51he plays it to his fellow international,
00:17:52Atati tried to play the slow one out,
00:17:55but it breaks now, once again,
00:17:57mother will look to come clear,
00:17:59Saeed doing well,
00:18:00challenge comes in, Celtic get the ball back though,
00:18:03Tierney now,
00:18:04knocks it inside to Atati, Atati plays it
00:18:06back to McCown, McCown lingered on it,
00:18:09but he still had the chance
00:18:10to attack,
00:18:13Peter Grant holds his head
00:18:14in his hands in frustration on that one,
00:18:16but again, attacking intent,
00:18:18Peter. Yeah, but as I say,
00:18:20sometimes we want to score
00:18:22the perfect goal, sometimes when you're getting
00:18:24an opportunity, don't need to be clever,
00:18:26get the ball across, or fire it in, or get your
00:18:28shot away, you know,
00:18:30you don't get a lot of time, and especially
00:18:32against Motherwell, you know, they put you under pressure,
00:18:35you know, so when you get
00:18:36opportunities round about their box,
00:18:39you've got to have that slight diggit in
00:18:40a couple of occasions, we've had that opportunity
00:18:42to do that.
00:18:44Well, Leo Atati picks up
00:18:46a yield of cards,
00:18:49and
00:18:49beating quick to go into his pocket
00:18:51for that one, booze roaring out
00:18:53around Celtic Park.
00:18:56Atati's right,
00:18:58but, but,
00:19:00because he's telling
00:19:01where the ball goes, he's right for getting booked
00:19:03for standing in front of the ball, but he's 100%
00:19:05right, the ball was five yards
00:19:07further back for the three counters to be ten.
00:19:10I think it was the speed of the decision that...
00:19:12Yeah, but the referee's still, the referee's still
00:19:14going to say, well, okay, the ball's still going to get back there.
00:19:17Yes, from Atati, if the ball's in the right position,
00:19:19he's 100% right to book Atati.
00:19:21All he was saying was...
00:19:26Stephen O'Donnell, gallops from the right back position,
00:19:29up towards the halfway line,
00:19:31plays it inside to Slatter,
00:19:33he does the 360, turns away,
00:19:35drinks it back, challenge comes in,
00:19:37oh that's a hefty, hefty challenge,
00:19:39surely a free kick, it is indeed,
00:19:40free kick and a yellow card.
00:19:44I think it's Elijah Just, is it?
00:19:45Yes, I think it is.
00:19:49Retribution, as you say, maybe for the first half.
00:19:51It was quite similar actually,
00:19:53he's got the ball and continued through,
00:19:55similar to what Alex has done with him in the first half.
00:20:03Yellow card it is, for Elijah Just,
00:20:05the New Zealander goes into the book,
00:20:07an eventful day for him, scores a goal,
00:20:09picks up a yellow card.
00:20:13Celtic have the free kicks in his Salahs,
00:20:15about 30 yards from his own goal,
00:20:16outside the D, he lays it off to scales.
00:20:20Captain, forced to get back though,
00:20:22Salah first time, left footed,
00:20:24high up into the air,
00:20:25Cavancher is underneath it,
00:20:27tries to get away from the challenge.
00:20:30Donald has it though,
00:20:31thought about playing it back,
00:20:32and then he saw Maeda,
00:20:33he's had it coming,
00:20:34glittering challenge from Tierney,
00:20:36let the ball all the way back up
00:20:38to the 18 yard box,
00:20:40for Callum Ward takes control of it.
00:20:43And that's what we call a proper challenge for Kieran there,
00:20:47thank God you're not still allowed to do them nowadays.
00:20:49A meaty challenge,
00:20:5065 minutes played here in
00:20:52Paradise, it remains, Celtic 1,
00:20:54Motherwell 1.
00:20:57500 picks it up,
00:20:5820 yards from goal,
00:20:59does well to lay off to Slattery,
00:21:02Slattery tries to chip the quick ball over the top,
00:21:04Alfa watches it all the way,
00:21:06but it is out in that far side.
00:21:08Oh and as he has it,
00:21:09once he's gone to that right foot,
00:21:11fires a shot,
00:21:11it's just past the post.
00:21:13Well,
00:21:16you can see where the goals have been coming for this season.
00:21:18Yeah, he's done the right thing,
00:21:20he's trying to get his shot away,
00:21:21I just thought it'd take a slight deflection off it,
00:21:23I thought it'd be perfectly honest with you,
00:21:25so I'm delighted at that.
00:21:26But you see the support he got was very quick,
00:21:29you know,
00:21:30and that's what Muller will do very well,
00:21:32they get support into the box very quickly,
00:21:34they change the game,
00:21:35okay, people talk about how nice a football side there,
00:21:37they've got willing runners who will get support into the box,
00:21:40and they need two men spare,
00:21:41two men spare, sorry, in the box.
00:21:43So they are kept in quiet for most of the afternoon,
00:21:46hit man on 21 goals for the season.
00:21:50Muller will retain position once again,
00:21:53what, just over the halfway line,
00:21:55he plays it all the way across,
00:21:58and now the Steelman come across the halfway line,
00:22:01down to Langello,
00:22:03on the far side,
00:22:03halfway inside the Celtic hockey,
00:22:05balloons,
00:22:06a big ball over the top,
00:22:07that one,
00:22:08well,
00:22:09I thought it was gonna out,
00:22:10Tierney thought it was gonna out,
00:22:11but eventually he's had to give in,
00:22:12and give a throw in,
00:22:13to Motherwell.
00:22:15Yeah, he made the right decision,
00:22:16I don't think you take chances there.
00:22:18Yeah, absolutely not Peter.
00:22:21Faddinger now,
00:22:21plays it out,
00:22:23O'Donnell,
00:22:23everyone back inside the Celtic half,
00:22:28and again,
00:22:30played across to Slattery,
00:22:32he's becoming more and more influential,
00:22:34as this game goes on for the visitors,
00:22:37to Faddinger,
00:22:38inside to Ward,
00:22:40back to Faddinger,
00:22:44side now,
00:22:45runs out the defence,
00:22:46just past Maida,
00:22:47clips up all over the top,
00:22:49and Sinisala sees it,
00:22:50but he's dropped it,
00:22:51just hit his eye off the ball,
00:22:53instantly puts his hands up.
00:22:55Good job Langello faced the other way as well,
00:22:57and he put his hands up,
00:22:58because he never received possession.
00:23:00Celtic roaring across the halfway line,
00:23:02Yang takes it up now,
00:23:03it's past two players,
00:23:04he's inside the box,
00:23:05he thinks about an option,
00:23:06tries to play it across,
00:23:07just a little bit too cute,
00:23:08but Celtic have another corner,
00:23:10it's the second of the match,
00:23:11and a chance to put pressure on the Steelmen's back line.
00:23:14Yang done fantastic,
00:23:15the biggest problem you had here is Luke McCown and Big Tamers,
00:23:18made the same movement,
00:23:19they're all in that area of the pitch,
00:23:21one's got to gamble across the six yard box,
00:23:25and it gives Yang two options then.
00:23:27Well, it is a corner though,
00:23:29Celtic,
00:23:30plenty of height inside the box,
00:23:32this one to be taken left footed out on that far side,
00:23:36and it comes,
00:23:37it's beyond the goalkeeper,
00:23:39you think we're going to have a header on it,
00:23:40either Maeda's looking for a penalty kick out of that one,
00:23:44I think that one really should be checked Peter.
00:23:47It's going to be interesting,
00:23:48I'm not sure if...
00:23:52Well,
00:23:53Well, yeah, you know,
00:23:55there is a phrase Peter Grant,
00:23:56I've heard it,
00:23:58I've seen them given.
00:23:59No, well he's not facing the ball,
00:24:01and Maeda's make all eyes are on the ball,
00:24:03Longello's never looked at the ball once,
00:24:05he'll be very lucky to get away with it.
00:24:08Well, I think he's riding his luck,
00:24:10there is a check on it.
00:24:12Yeah,
00:24:13I think he's very lucky if he gets away with this,
00:24:15because if you watch Maeda,
00:24:16he's trying to get the ball,
00:24:17Longello's, and he does pull him.
00:24:19He's pulled him away,
00:24:19I mean he's getting a header on that,
00:24:21and he's getting a free header,
00:24:24Peter.
00:24:24They will be checking this,
00:24:26as you say Peter,
00:24:27but yeah, I mean,
00:24:27Dyson Ryder's got a header,
00:24:28against really what is an empty net,
00:24:30because, you know,
00:24:30the keeper's committed himself.
00:24:35Well,
00:24:36we know this sign,
00:24:37we see John Beaton,
00:24:39marching towards the monitor,
00:24:41this will be interesting.
00:24:43He's never looked at the ball,
00:24:45that's the only thing I would say,
00:24:46he made his eyes are never off the ball.
00:24:58Decisions to be made,
00:25:00John Beaton stands down at the monitor,
00:25:02you can see clearly Langello pulling Maeda back,
00:25:05he's got the chance to dive forward,
00:25:07get the header,
00:25:07get the ball into the back of the net.
00:25:10To me,
00:25:10it's a penalty kick,
00:25:11I don't think they can argue with it,
00:25:13nobody can argue with it,
00:25:14Langello's never looking at the ball,
00:25:15Maeda's never taken his eye off the ball.
00:25:19It's a penalty kick for me.
00:25:22Yeah.
00:25:24Yeah,
00:25:25I would say that's a holding offence,
00:25:27Peter.
00:25:28John Beaton taking his time,
00:25:30I'm not entirely sure why it's going to take so long
00:25:32to make this decision.
00:25:33It's a goal scored an opportunity for me,
00:25:34it's a goal scored an opportunity,
00:25:36it's a definite penalty.
00:25:37Yeah,
00:25:37Keeper's committed himself,
00:25:38it's an open goal,
00:25:39he's pulled back,
00:25:40he doesn't get the header,
00:25:40this has to be a penalty kick to Celtic,
00:25:43as John Beaton marches back,
00:25:46the decision is in his hands.
00:25:50And he's given it,
00:25:52it's a penalty kick to Celtic,
00:25:53Langello will pick up a red card,
00:25:56because of course,
00:25:57it's prevented a clear goal scoring opportunity.
00:26:01Now Motherwell down to 10 men,
00:26:0320 left to play,
00:26:03and Celtic have a penalty.
00:26:06Listen,
00:26:07I'm not,
00:26:08I don't know the rules with the red card,
00:26:09because I thought it was,
00:26:10there wasn't double jeopardy anymore,
00:26:12but it's definitely a free kick,
00:26:14there's no getting away from that.
00:26:16Whether it's a red card,
00:26:19of course it's a goal scoring opportunity,
00:26:20but it's not serious foul play.
00:26:24But it is preventing a goal scoring opportunity,
00:26:26Peter,
00:26:27is that not,
00:26:27is that not the reading of it?
00:26:28Yeah, but,
00:26:29if you're throwing goals,
00:26:30it is at any time,
00:26:31but,
00:26:32it's not,
00:26:32it's supposed to be serious foul play,
00:26:34you've given a penalty kick,
00:26:36that,
00:26:36that was the rule supposed to be nowadays,
00:26:37if you give the penalty kick,
00:26:39the player stays on,
00:26:40you give them a yellow card.
00:26:42Thomas Sivantara stands over it,
00:26:45places the ball down,
00:26:48the hero of Ibrox last Sunday evening,
00:26:52faces the goalkeeper Callum Ward,
00:26:55and in the context of the match,
00:26:58and indeed,
00:26:59possibly the context of the season,
00:27:01Peter,
00:27:01this is important.
00:27:03Well,
00:27:03every opportunity you get now,
00:27:05is important,
00:27:06that's the way that the league's panned out,
00:27:09does not get away from that.
00:27:11Yellow card for Callum Ward,
00:27:13John Beaton doesn't like the fact,
00:27:14that he's just doing a bit of gamesmanship.
00:27:17Everybody around Celtic Park,
00:27:19holding their breath,
00:27:21Thomas Sivantara,
00:27:22weighs up the situation,
00:27:24Callum Ward dancing on his line,
00:27:26Sivantara,
00:27:26here he comes,
00:27:27right foot,
00:27:27right into the middle of the net,
00:27:31last week,
00:27:32he went low to the goalkeeper's right,
00:27:34this time,
00:27:35big star,
00:27:36shifting over the goalkeeper,
00:27:37and in 71 minutes,
00:27:39Celtic have the lead again,
00:27:41it's Celtic 2,
00:27:42Motherwell 1.
00:27:43Oh, fantastic,
00:27:44I'm delighted for the big guy,
00:27:45obviously,
00:27:46he's that high,
00:27:46last week,
00:27:47he didn't want to become disappointed,
00:27:49before it,
00:27:50so,
00:27:51chuff for him,
00:27:51getting goals for Celtic as a striker,
00:27:53is so important,
00:27:54no matter how you get them,
00:27:57but,
00:27:57it definitely is a penalty kick,
00:27:58nobody can argue with it.
00:28:05That has galvanised the support once again,
00:28:08we've talked about being as cool as a Belgian cucumber shooter,
00:28:13that is as cool as it comes from the big check.
00:28:15Oh, he's done fantastic, you know,
00:28:18I'm pleased for him because I think he's in a good second half so far,
00:28:20he's tried to link the play,
00:28:22we know he doesn't have the pace,
00:28:23erm, either through the middle,
00:28:25but what he does is,
00:28:26he gives you that ball you can play and then you can go and join him.
00:28:29So now we've just got to keep the concentration,
00:28:32because Motherwell,
00:28:33they're such a good side and they find that extra player,
00:28:35maybe it becomes a problem for them now,
00:28:37but we can't give this opportunity up.
00:28:41Yep, bit of frustration from Callum Slattery,
00:28:44but dogged determination from Diza Maeda,
00:28:46wins Celtic the free kick now.
00:28:48Motherwell down to 10 men
00:28:49and into the last 18 minutes of this game,
00:28:52Celtic leading by two goals to one.
00:28:55Can the Hoops put more pressure on,
00:28:57can they find a third?
00:28:59The most important thing is now,
00:29:01as they say,
00:29:03Martin's experience tells him now,
00:29:04and I keep going on about Alex Chamberlain,
00:29:07because it's important for us,
00:29:08and we have players on the bench who can play as well as him in the Lake of Bernardo,
00:29:13we don't want to lose a pair to equalise it,
00:29:15because Motherwell are such a good side,
00:29:16let's give them great credit for the way they've played,
00:29:19but you don't want to get an equaliser in that respect,
00:29:21both either with the ball in the back of the net
00:29:23or a player getting the centre off.
00:29:25Well we have seen situations before,
00:29:27Peter, our team goes down to 10 men of course,
00:29:29and yet they play as if they have an 11th.
00:29:32Yep, we've all been there, we've all been there,
00:29:35and it's very difficult because they're very well organised,
00:29:37and they have pace, so that's why Motherwell are different for most,
00:29:41because they can play short, they can play short,
00:29:43they can have their bodies a little bit deeper,
00:29:45but they know they've got the pace of Maswanisi,
00:29:47and one turn of the ball, and now the rain's coming down,
00:29:50a slut bear defender, all these things,
00:29:52so you've got very much concentration now.
00:29:55So many factors for Celtic as the goalscorer picks it up,
00:29:58wrecks away from one challenge, goes down,
00:30:00won't have got a penalty.
00:30:02Referee John Beaton doesn't like it,
00:30:04but Celtic win back possession of McCown,
00:30:05then to Tierney, back to Hitati on the halfway line.
00:30:09John Beaton waves, play on.
00:30:12I'd like to see that one again.
00:30:13I don't know why he'd go down,
00:30:15because he was just going to roll the ball to Kierm Tierney.
00:30:18Exactly.
00:30:18So I don't know any reason why he would go down.
00:30:21Tierney again though,
00:30:22heading down towards the corner flag,
00:30:23gets the ball across,
00:30:24drops to Yang,
00:30:25he knocks,
00:30:26and just a divider!
00:30:27Super save from Callum Moore,
00:30:28quickly off his line,
00:30:29I thought for certain that he'd scored,
00:30:31but the ball is still inside the Motherwell box,
00:30:33it's completely clear now,
00:30:35but Celtic bring it forward once again.
00:30:37That's a massive chance,
00:30:39but this is the bit we're talking about.
00:30:40Yes.
00:30:42Slatterley now,
00:30:43up towards the halfway line,
00:30:45side down this right hand side,
00:30:47as is Sparrow,
00:30:47Sparrow checks back,
00:30:50knocks it inside,
00:30:52what? Picks it up.
00:30:53The one thing we know,
00:30:54Peter,
00:30:54Mullerball won't be panicking here,
00:30:56they know their game plan,
00:30:57they generally stick to 11 or 10 men.
00:31:00Yeah, just got to be careful,
00:31:01you just see the inexperience of Colby Donnan,
00:31:02running 70-80 yards across the pitch,
00:31:04now he's out of position,
00:31:05now he's just getting back in,
00:31:07and now Muller will have found that space,
00:31:08because they knew he was out of there.
00:31:10Yep,
00:31:10clipped behind,
00:31:11played across,
00:31:11Dortmund does well,
00:31:14I think he took one as he fell as well.
00:31:16Yeah,
00:31:16he's holding his knee.
00:31:17Yep,
00:31:18that would be a blow.
00:31:20Celtic with coverage on that position.
00:31:24Anthony Ralston on the bench,
00:31:25but immediately,
00:31:27Sinisalo calling here.
00:31:29Yep,
00:31:31Sinisalo calling for the trainer to come on.
00:31:35Don't know if he just hooked it,
00:31:36he's opened his knee a little bit.
00:31:38Yep.
00:31:43He's getting back to his feet though.
00:31:46He's got another look at that,
00:31:48that opportunity there.
00:31:50It's a big chance,
00:31:51it's a good,
00:31:51very good save.
00:31:52He's quick off his lane,
00:31:53he's smart,
00:31:54he's done well.
00:31:54Ciaran's done great there,
00:31:56wins the ball back,
00:31:56there's a great ball in the box,
00:31:57Yang's touches first class,
00:32:00made,
00:32:00to be fair to the keeper,
00:32:01he's not that much time to think.
00:32:03No.
00:32:03And the keeper's made his body big.
00:32:04Yeah, made himself big,
00:32:05blocked it,
00:32:06great save,
00:32:06by the goalkeeper.
00:32:08Gotta give him credit for that.
00:32:10Game gets back underway,
00:32:11mother with throwing on the far side.
00:32:16Craig to Watt,
00:32:17deep inside the Celtic half,
00:32:19he's forced to play it back out wide.
00:32:23Celtic putting the pressure on,
00:32:24but the ball breaks down on that left hand side.
00:32:28Nice pass into Slattery,
00:32:30onto his right foot,
00:32:31he lays it off to O'Donnell,
00:32:33O'Donnell will look to clip this one in.
00:32:34No, he doesn't actually go for goal.
00:32:36Well,
00:32:36I've said that because I've seen Stephen O'Donnell do that so many times,
00:32:39where you've clipped a beautiful ball into the box,
00:32:41looking for someone's head,
00:32:43but this time just a shot.
00:32:44I was delighted he went for the shot there,
00:32:45I have to be fair close with you.
00:32:49Celtic making the changes,
00:32:51Ciaran Tierney will be coming off,
00:32:52or Marcello Saracci,
00:32:53and Paolo Bernardo will also be joining the action,
00:32:56and as you predicted, Peter.
00:32:58Yeah, I thought that,
00:32:59I was a bit concerned about Alex,
00:33:01because he's done terrific,
00:33:02his use of the ball,
00:33:03and his distribution, as I say,
00:33:04has been excellent.
00:33:06But I was just scared,
00:33:06because Muller was such a good side,
00:33:08there's other teams who go more direct,
00:33:09and sometimes you think,
00:33:10well, I'm not going to bypass you with football,
00:33:12but it just takes that wee bit of timing.
00:33:14So I'm delighted at the fact that Martin's made that substitute.
00:33:18Listen, I'm a big supporter,
00:33:19but Marcello anyway,
00:33:19I think he's a very good player.
00:33:21And Anthony Ralston will be coming on as well,
00:33:24Colby Donovan,
00:33:24I think, took a wee bit more of an injury than him.
00:33:26We did suspect that at first,
00:33:27he was down,
00:33:28Sinisala was calling for the trainer to come on.
00:33:30And in the midst of all that,
00:33:31Oscar Priestman will also be coming on,
00:33:34and Faddinger will be off for Motherwell.
00:33:36So,
00:33:37packs are being shuffled here,
00:33:39good game management from Martin O'Neill,
00:33:41would you say?
00:33:41Well, very much so,
00:33:43because Tony comes on,
00:33:44he's never let the team down in any shape or form.
00:33:46You know,
00:33:47he comes on here,
00:33:47he'll be desperate to get a game,
00:33:49because if you're going for your number one right back,
00:33:51really,
00:33:52to all of a sudden,
00:33:53be in and out to number three,
00:33:54probably at this moment in time,
00:33:56even though Alistair Johnson's out,
00:33:57it'll be a big disappointment for Tony.
00:34:00Broke's now Yang,
00:34:01up towards,
00:34:02inside the box actually,
00:34:03he's put on it all!
00:34:04What a finish from the South Korean!
00:34:07He took it back,
00:34:08he took the ball over the top,
00:34:09made his way into the box,
00:34:11and bang!
00:34:12There it goes!
00:34:13The absolute epitome
00:34:14of South Korean gilded
00:34:16from Yang,
00:34:17and it's Celtic 3,
00:34:19Motherwell won!
00:34:20Wow!
00:34:21Fantastic finish!
00:34:23Let's be perfectly honest with you here.
00:34:26It looks simple,
00:34:27but when he runs through there,
00:34:29and he's on his opposite side,
00:34:30you're thinking,
00:34:30what's he going to do,
00:34:31is he going to take an extra touch.
00:34:33But,
00:34:34we're talking to Big Tomas,
00:34:35Big Tomas just putting his body in,
00:34:37but then he goes in,
00:34:38his first touch with his right,
00:34:39and then he whoops it away with his left.
00:34:41A brilliant finish!
00:34:43It is a magnificent finish,
00:34:45inside the box!
00:34:47Bang!
00:34:47There it goes!
00:34:48Celtic 3,
00:34:49Motherwell won!
00:34:51And he has to lift it,
00:34:52you know,
00:34:53because Ward's done exceptionally well,
00:34:54he's kept himself as big as he possibly can,
00:34:57but he's just lifted it at the right time,
00:34:58so,
00:34:59it gives you a little bit of a breather,
00:35:01you know,
00:35:02with that third goal.
00:35:05And let's not forget,
00:35:06Peter,
00:35:07he's on a hat trick here.
00:35:09Yeah,
00:35:09absolutely.
00:35:10Up against 10 men.
00:35:14Well,
00:35:16you don't have to be a habitual
00:35:18show of the Eurovision Song Contest
00:35:20to make out the ditty
00:35:21that's going around the ground
00:35:22at Paradise just now.
00:35:24It rings out
00:35:24for the manager,
00:35:26Martin O'Neill
00:35:26made those changes
00:35:27at half-time,
00:35:28he's made changes through,
00:35:29and Celtic leading by three goals to one.
00:35:31Yeah, and all the changes have gone very well again,
00:35:33you know,
00:35:34and it gave a wee bit more spark to it,
00:35:36but the big difference is,
00:35:37I think,
00:35:37what we spoke about
00:35:38in the first half,
00:35:40at half-time,
00:35:41Celtic have played higher up the pitch,
00:35:42Muller will link,
00:35:43it had a 10-15 minute of dominating the ball again,
00:35:47and you always need that little bit of fortune,
00:35:49you know,
00:35:49Muller will be really disappointed
00:35:50giving the penalty kick away.
00:35:52Here they come forward once again,
00:35:54they've made a few other changes,
00:35:56the Sriracha now,
00:35:57brings it clear,
00:35:58plays it off to Chibanchero,
00:35:59he's playing almost in the left-back position,
00:36:01does well,
00:36:02they'll cannons the ball off from Mullerho,
00:36:03defender out it goes,
00:36:04Celtic have a throw,
00:36:05and we're into the final ten minutes
00:36:07of this Scottish Premiership match,
00:36:09Celtic leading
00:36:10and three goals to one.
00:36:11But Greg Tom has done well,
00:36:13he just put his body in front of Stephen O'Donnell,
00:36:14didn't allow him to jump,
00:36:16the ball goes over him,
00:36:17and it goes through and go,
00:36:18and Yang's watching off his inside the pitch
00:36:19and gets a fantastic finish,
00:36:21so his presence gave you something different.
00:36:26Ball's volleyed up towards the back line,
00:36:28Scales does well,
00:36:30Bernardo plays it back to Arthur,
00:36:32out to Rawlsson,
00:36:33gets his first touch,
00:36:35swings it out on that far side to
00:36:37the scorer of two goals,
00:36:38Jean, he cuts inside,
00:36:41plays it back to McCown,
00:36:44McCown clips the ball,
00:36:45that's going nowhere.
00:36:47Oh, he should actually play Thomas,
00:36:48Hatati's made a great run,
00:36:49the defenders dropped with him,
00:36:51Big Thomas has got three
00:36:52inside the box,
00:36:53and if someday we look,
00:36:54McCown's quality's more than capable
00:36:56of making that pass.
00:37:00Here comes Björg Golfson,
00:37:01he's come on,
00:37:03as a substitute,
00:37:04Walston goes in for a challenge,
00:37:05and I think Roman,
00:37:06well,
00:37:07I'm just about,
00:37:08I mean surely John Beaton
00:37:09is reaching for the yellow card,
00:37:11I think initially he wasn't even
00:37:12going to give the three kick.
00:37:15Listen, you're allowed to go and win the ball,
00:37:19he's not actually hit the ball off the player,
00:37:23it's an incredible decision.
00:37:24It really is.
00:37:25I know the boys got a sore leg from the first half,
00:37:30but it's a poor decision,
00:37:31let's be perfectly honest with you.
00:37:33Yeah.
00:37:35Tony Ralston of course,
00:37:37only on for minutes,
00:37:38picking that up.
00:37:40Well let me tell you,
00:37:41if he doesn't go into that tackle,
00:37:43and win that tackle the way he did,
00:37:44there'd be a lot of criticism around this stadium.
00:37:47Yep.
00:37:47You know, and I think you should still be allowed to tackle
00:37:49on football.
00:37:50And of course,
00:37:51as we said with Steve Clarke here today,
00:37:54Andre's got an eye on that Scotland squad as well.
00:37:56Yeah.
00:37:57And he needs to play football,
00:37:58he needs to play competitive games,
00:37:59his mother will go for another double substitution.
00:38:02Yeah, to be perfectly honest with you,
00:38:03all I'm a bit worried about is winning this league.
00:38:08And so say all of us.
00:38:10It's a double substitution for the Steelmen,
00:38:12I think Just has run his course this afternoon.
00:38:15Need to see, yep,
00:38:16he'll be leaving the three.
00:38:18But to be fair to Just,
00:38:19I don't think it's a tackle for Tony Ralston
00:38:21he's down with.
00:38:22No.
00:38:23He's actually hit him on the previous injury.
00:38:25Because that's what they're treating.
00:38:27And any knock you're getting on that,
00:38:28if you've got,
00:38:28we've all had that.
00:38:30And if you keep getting hit on it,
00:38:31it's sore, so...
00:38:33I think Tony's very unfortunate there.
00:38:38Yep.
00:38:39McGee and Nicholson coming on,
00:38:40for Just and Sparrow.
00:38:44I suppose the manager really has to do that,
00:38:46doesn't he Peter?
00:38:47He has to freshen the up,
00:38:47they're down to ten men,
00:38:49they're trailing by three goals to one.
00:38:51Well,
00:38:51we'll get McGee, he's very good in the air actually,
00:38:53so they'll get set plays,
00:38:54they'll get the ball for him.
00:38:55You know,
00:38:56if they can get in good areas of the pitch.
00:38:59Play centre half and right back.
00:39:06Prysman.
00:39:08Prysman.
00:39:08Putting the pressure on,
00:39:10but it goes to Donald,
00:39:11on the halfway line.
00:39:14Checks back from Laida.
00:39:17Laida harrying and harassing as he does,
00:39:19Prysman has to go back again,
00:39:21he's played inside to Watt,
00:39:23he clips up all over the top,
00:39:24so he actually has to watch that as well,
00:39:26just stabs out of the play.
00:39:27Mother will have the throw in down near the corner flag on this near side.
00:39:36Slattery picks it up,
00:39:37challenge comes in,
00:39:39it's another throw in to the visitors.
00:39:42Played out to O'Donnell,
00:39:44spreads the play across.
00:39:46McGinn now tries to play it forward.
00:39:47Wonderful challenge from Arthur.
00:39:50And,
00:39:51a guy like that,
00:39:52Björg Golfson,
00:39:53just into the match,
00:39:54it's a clumsy, clumsy challenge on Bernardo.
00:39:57Yeah, I don't think it's a booking,
00:39:59but if you're giving booking from other ones,
00:40:02that does become a yellow card.
00:40:04I think Benjamin Arthur
00:40:06deserves credit as well today,
00:40:07I think he's done exceptionally well,
00:40:09his players have been good,
00:40:10his positional play's been good.
00:40:13Well, he's had a few games, Peter,
00:40:15with Benji's first home start,
00:40:16as we pointed out,
00:40:17pre-kick-off.
00:40:19Sirachi now,
00:40:20plays it down to Hatati,
00:40:21he's had to go back inside his own half.
00:40:23And he brings it forward,
00:40:24but he plays a slack one,
00:40:25that's picked up by Watt,
00:40:26heading towards the halfway line,
00:40:28but that's picked up by Yang.
00:40:29Yang now,
00:40:30plays it to Maeda,
00:40:31Maeda,
00:40:31super little,
00:40:32back heel into the path of Chivanta,
00:40:34he's got to go back the way.
00:40:36Here he is now,
00:40:37facing goal,
00:40:38plays it into Yang,
00:40:39Yang's on his left-hand side,
00:40:41tries to knock it back,
00:40:42and Maeda falls onto it,
00:40:44gets the ball away,
00:40:45but Motherwell will bring it clear,
00:40:46but Ralston's in there,
00:40:48he has to be careful Tony,
00:40:49he's on a yellow card here,
00:40:51does well to put pressure on,
00:40:52back it goes towards,
00:40:53it's scooped up high towards the halfway line,
00:40:56Arthur's got a really courageous header in there,
00:41:00Foula Bernardo pointing,
00:41:02and that should have been a free kick,
00:41:03but Celtic will play on,
00:41:0485 minutes,
00:41:05we'll hit the last five of the 90,
00:41:07there should be a few minutes of injury time to play as well,
00:41:10as Tony Ralston picks it up inside,
00:41:11the Motherwell half gives it back to Arthur,
00:41:14across to Scales,
00:41:16Bernardo now scoops a lovely first-time ball out to Sanachi,
00:41:19he's on his own,
00:41:20comes across the halfway line,
00:41:21drops it into Atati,
00:41:22the Uruguayan gets it back,
00:41:25Bernardo wants it short,
00:41:26but it's played to Benjamin Arthur,
00:41:29now down to Ralston,
00:41:31Ralston looks for Yang,
00:41:34cuts it inside,
00:41:35gets the ball wrestled away from it,
00:41:37the Motherwell now with a chance to break clear,
00:41:40remember,
00:41:41the visitors down to 10 men,
00:41:44Alston sticks to his cast,
00:41:47the Motherwell half,
00:41:48the throw in,
00:41:48halfway inside the ceiling,
00:41:50half on that far side,
00:41:55Prystman plays it down to what,
00:41:57hugging the centre circle,
00:41:58brings it forward,
00:42:01down to Prystman once again,
00:42:02Charles,
00:42:03Yang there doesn't get away with the ball,
00:42:05and Prystman does well to retain possession,
00:42:07now he heads towards the edge of the box,
00:42:09cuts it inside,
00:42:10chance to get onto the right foot,
00:42:11played a close to Slattery,
00:42:13Chivantula steps in,
00:42:15with the archetypal defending play from the big forward,
00:42:19and the ball actually is played forward to Maeda,
00:42:21if Maeda can see inside to Yang,
00:42:23and he's picked it up,
00:42:25Yang has Bernardo on the overlap,
00:42:26tries to play out to him on the right-hand side,
00:42:28and now Motherwell get men back in abundance,
00:42:30Bernardo holds it,
00:42:32plays it down to Ralston.
00:42:34I think Yang just ran out of juice there.
00:42:37Well, when you're on a hat-trick,
00:42:39you think you would find that extra,
00:42:40that extra bit of petrol.
00:42:43Hattati, 40 yards from goal,
00:42:45laser off to Sorachi,
00:42:46first-time ball across the face!
00:42:49Headed clear once again,
00:42:50Celtic relentless in the pursuit of these three points,
00:42:5387 minutes gone here in Barlight,
00:42:55leading by three goals to one.
00:42:58It's a great ball in,
00:42:59and it comes in early for Sorachi,
00:43:01and you could just see who was in the centre of the goal,
00:43:03was Yang again.
00:43:04Yep.
00:43:05You're on a hat-trick,
00:43:06you're on a hat-trick.
00:43:07He's saying he was bust.
00:43:11Nice interplay between Hattati and Scales,
00:43:14Hattati retains position,
00:43:15tries to clip it down,
00:43:17picked up on this near side by McCown,
00:43:19onto his left foot,
00:43:20chips a ball up towards the centre,
00:43:23he's headed back in,
00:43:24Maeda's there,
00:43:25does well to rock the challenge,
00:43:28plays it out on that far side,
00:43:29looks as if it's going out for a corner,
00:43:31Maeda does all the work,
00:43:32listen,
00:43:3388 minutes played,
00:43:34that man there,
00:43:35on the ground,
00:43:36but he gives it 100%,
00:43:38whatever part of the great black grass he's on.
00:43:41Well, I think that's the biggest thing he's shown today.
00:43:44That look in his locker today,
00:43:46he's been chasing things down,
00:43:47he's been harrying people,
00:43:48he's been putting them under pressure.
00:43:50I think if,
00:43:51if he keeps doing that consistently,
00:43:52which is his biggest strength obviously,
00:43:55his all round game becomes better.
00:43:57Slack one there,
00:43:58Yang,
00:43:58thought he was going to get in on goal,
00:44:00but the ball breaks to Sorachi,
00:44:02on the centre circle,
00:44:03advances forward,
00:44:04Givantara wants it,
00:44:04but he knocks it in slowly to Hattati,
00:44:06Hattati back to Bernardo,
00:44:08the Portuguese,
00:44:08weighs up his options,
00:44:09plays it to Givantara,
00:44:11Givantara back to Bernardo,
00:44:12out to Arthur.
00:44:14Ralston wanted it in the far side,
00:44:15but it's knocked short to the captain,
00:44:17Liam Scales.
00:44:20Givantara now clips a high ball,
00:44:22out to that far side,
00:44:23super pass from the Irishman,
00:44:25as Ralston picks it up onto his right foot,
00:44:27plays it up towards the edge,
00:44:28Yang was going in,
00:44:29but not with much commitment,
00:44:30Mother will try to get it clear,
00:44:31but it breaks once again.
00:44:33It's Makoun out in that far side,
00:44:35it's into Ralston,
00:44:36he clips another high ball,
00:44:37but Wards underneath that,
00:44:39takes it comfortably.
00:44:41And now we'll look to get the Steelmen going once again.
00:44:47What,
00:44:48back to goal,
00:44:48does well,
00:44:49plays it to Prysman.
00:44:54Down on the far side,
00:44:56Mother will look as if they've run out of ideas,
00:44:58maybe run out of puff a wee bit Peter.
00:45:01Oh, I think you're down to three,
00:45:02and obviously,
00:45:04you're down a man,
00:45:05it makes it difficult,
00:45:06but listen,
00:45:06they've been a great credit,
00:45:08they're in a position that they deserve to be in,
00:45:10in the respect of that,
00:45:11they've played ever so well,
00:45:12they've made it a real difficult game,
00:45:14and it's been a really,
00:45:15really hard fought,
00:45:16if it's only won the three points,
00:45:17if it's been a really hard fought three points,
00:45:18Celtic will have known they're in a game,
00:45:20that's for sure.
00:45:21Well, I have to say Peter,
00:45:22it's been one of the most entertaining games,
00:45:24I've had the pleasure of commentating on here at Celtic Park
00:45:26for quite some time,
00:45:27and I say that with,
00:45:27as you say,
00:45:28due credit to Mullable.
00:45:30Absolutely,
00:45:30and they deserve that,
00:45:31but to be fair to the Celtic boys,
00:45:33they kept going,
00:45:33they knew it wasn't easy,
00:45:35but they suck it up at times
00:45:36with Mullable keeping the ball off them,
00:45:37which usually Celtic are doing with everybody else.
00:45:45Final substitution,
00:45:47with Ross coming on,
00:45:51and Masmanisi,
00:45:52he will be heading off now Peter,
00:45:53there's a four-team tournament he's going out to Africa for,
00:45:56so that'll be the last we've seen him in for a while.
00:45:58I think one of the big achievements today for Celtic
00:46:00has been keeping that man quiet.
00:46:02Yeah, but it was always a threat,
00:46:04because you watch the game,
00:46:04and you watch if the ball turns over,
00:46:06he was always on the last line,
00:46:08making it 1v1s and whatever.
00:46:10I think the Mullable team have done remarkably well,
00:46:12and there's not a lot of the manager
00:46:14that will be disappointed in.
00:46:16Longelo's letting him down in the respect of that,
00:46:18I always talk about wise defenders grabbing players,
00:46:20just watch the ball,
00:46:22concentrate on the ball.
00:46:23He was more interested in Maeda,
00:46:25thankfully for Celtic,
00:46:26and it gave us that breakthrough
00:46:27that we so desperately needed at that particular time.
00:46:29But Mullable have never gave in,
00:46:31and listen, there's been a credit all right throughout the season,
00:46:34not just today.
00:46:35As I said,
00:46:35they gave Celtic the biggest thousand I've seen,
00:46:37in probably ever my lifetime,
00:46:40for a Scottish team, I should say.
00:46:43Absolutely.
00:46:44As you can see,
00:46:45we're into the first minute of four minutes of injury time.
00:46:49Celtic leading by three goals to one,
00:46:51it's been exciting,
00:46:52it's been entertaining.
00:46:56And then Mullable with one final stab,
00:46:58maybe to try and get back into this game,
00:47:01and I have to say,
00:47:02Peter, if they pulled one back,
00:47:04some would say it would be interesting for the last couple of minutes,
00:47:06but I imagine you and I would be looking for defibrillators.
00:47:10Absolutely.
00:47:11I've got to give credit to big Thomas since he came on.
00:47:13Yes.
00:47:13He's worked exceptionally hard to help his teammates out,
00:47:16if somebody's caught out of position,
00:47:17he's run back into the position for them.
00:47:18Oh, wonderful backheel picked up.
00:47:23Challenge coming in.
00:47:24Referee says the ball has been won from Bernardo's tail,
00:47:28but he goes back in for the challenge.
00:47:30Hitati's there as well,
00:47:31but Mullable will do well to bring the ball clear once again,
00:47:34down into the path of Ross.
00:47:38He tries to flick onto his left foot,
00:47:40drops it inside.
00:47:42Priestman now,
00:47:43plays it across.
00:47:44It's a fine curled shot,
00:47:46but away it goes,
00:47:47goes out to the far side,
00:47:48and that really just sums up what the second half has been for Mullable.
00:47:52Yeah,
00:47:53maybe in that final third,
00:47:55but in the general play,
00:47:56I think they've not let themselves down in any shape or form.
00:47:59I think they've been excellent.
00:48:01You know,
00:48:01Celtic have been so much better,
00:48:03obviously against the ball,
00:48:05I think Celtic have been a lot better,
00:48:07and didn't allow Mullable to play,
00:48:09especially the first 10-15 minutes of the second half,
00:48:12but then Mullable will come into it again.
00:48:13So,
00:48:14it's toed and froed,
00:48:15and I think that's why the Mullable manager was so disappointed at the penalty kick they gave away.
00:48:20For us,
00:48:20brilliant.
00:48:22And they've seen the game out well now.
00:48:24And,
00:48:25you know,
00:48:26to quantify,
00:48:27how big are three points is this?
00:48:29I mean,
00:48:29every three points is going to be important now,
00:48:31and arguably,
00:48:32this is Celtic's most challenging game prior to the split,
00:48:35and they've come out of it with true colours.
00:48:37Well,
00:48:38as I keep saying Gerry,
00:48:38it's all about the next one.
00:48:39We don't worry about that.
00:48:40Mullable the day was always a big,
00:48:42big game.
00:48:42That was massive game.
00:48:43That was the next one on the calendar.
00:48:44Now it's your next game.
00:48:46That's what you've got to do,
00:48:47especially when you're going for the championship.
00:48:49I mean,
00:48:50the last time I was involved in the championship team,
00:48:52and Hank Hartz had went,
00:48:53I think it was all round was 27 league games.
00:48:55They hadn't lost them.
00:48:56Yep.
00:48:57And four cup ties.
00:48:58So,
00:48:58it was 31 games all in for Hartz.
00:49:01But we had to keep digging in,
00:49:02and that's what you've got to keep doing to try and get there.
00:49:05So, that Chief coming across now.
00:49:07Yang, of course,
00:49:08looking for that hat-trick
00:49:09as he picks up the ball just inside the box,
00:49:11but he can't control it.
00:49:1335 guards and go.
00:49:14Fires it right,
00:49:15footed past the post.
00:49:16Just a bit ring rusty
00:49:17from the Portuguese player at the moment.
00:49:19Oh, sorry, I beg your pardon,
00:49:20it was Anthony Ralston trying to catch Stevie Clark's eye
00:49:23once again with a screamer.
00:49:24Yeah, fans were shouting for me shoot,
00:49:26but Tony should know his strengths.
00:49:29But, to be fair,
00:49:30Mieda was disappointed because
00:49:32you hadn't taken the ball off him.
00:49:35Yeah, but if you're on a hat-trick as we say,
00:49:38and everybody's having a shot now.
00:49:39Look, McCown trying it.
00:49:41Heading towards the 94th minute.
00:49:43The idea was to put pressure on Hartz.
00:49:46Now, Denny McInnes and the Hartz boys
00:49:48might not have the good taste
00:49:49to tune in to Celtic TV, Peter.
00:49:51But they will know that they have to do something tonight
00:49:54because Celtic have done exactly what they set out today
00:49:57and get three points.
00:49:58Yeah, and it's been a very difficult game.
00:50:00You know, as I say in the first half,
00:50:01I thought that Mollerle
00:50:02had too much time in possession.
00:50:04Second half got a little bit closer,
00:50:05but Mollerle will never out it.
00:50:07You know, and the team that obviously
00:50:08the fortune of the penalty kick,
00:50:09which was a definite penalty kick,
00:50:11then we've seen it out quite comfortable,
00:50:13but it's a massive three points in the respect of that,
00:50:15and it allows you to move on to the next game.
00:50:17And the good thing is Celtic have played first this time
00:50:20because usually they're playing last.
00:50:22So it puts a little bit of pressure on everybody else
00:50:24and hopefully Colman can maybe take advantage of that.
00:50:28Well, Yang, you can see him in your picture.
00:50:30Man in the match today.
00:50:32Two terrific goals coming at crucial points.
00:50:35He gets the equaliser in the 38th minute
00:50:37as Mollerle had gone ahead with that strike from Just.
00:50:41There's a bit of flatness around Celtic Park at that point,
00:50:43but Yang popped up and fizzed one into the bottom corner.
00:50:46And then Thomas Sivantara.
00:50:48Well, you have struggled with this guy all season,
00:50:51but we're talking about calling him Thomas Chinchilla at one point.
00:50:54I have to say the penalty was a scintilla from Chinchilla.
00:50:58Beautifully finished right down the middle to give Celtic the 2-1 lead.
00:51:02Critical league at that point.
00:51:03And then Yang with an absolute peach of a goal to make it 3-1.
00:51:07I think the manager called it right.
00:51:09He gave the plaudits out to Mollerle in the pre-match media conference this week,
00:51:14and they played very, very well today at Celtic.
00:51:16You have to take your hat off to them, Peter.
00:51:18Listen, you always have to.
00:51:20You're at that stage now.
00:51:21You have to win games of football.
00:51:23You have to continually win games.
00:51:25How you win them doesn't go that far, you know,
00:51:28because you want to perform and you want to win, of course.
00:51:31But the biggest thing is winning.
00:51:32And that's what they've done today against a very, very good side
00:51:35who deserve all the plaudits.
00:51:37And I've got to, listen, we've got to lift our hat to the supporters as well.
00:51:40Yes.
00:51:41It's as good an atmosphere as I've heard at Celtic Park for a long time.
00:51:44You know, and the supporters played their part in it.
00:51:47Especially when you go 1-0 down and we're dominating the ball.
00:51:50So they've kept with the team.
00:51:51And the players have shown that over the last few weeks.
00:51:53They've kept going in difficult moments.
00:51:56And they've got the result.
00:51:57And you can hear the response of getting from the support now.
00:51:59It's been a very, very trying period.
00:52:01Very challenging period for Celtic.
00:52:03Four big, big away games they emerged unscathed from that.
00:52:07Indeed advanced to the semi-final in the Scottish Cup.
00:52:09Let me ask you, Peter, how big a moment is this for Liam Scales?
00:52:11He's leading the team around the park.
00:52:14He's captain for the day.
00:52:15He was captain last week.
00:52:16What would this kind of moment mean for him?
00:52:18Oh, it's massive.
00:52:18Being a captain of Celtic Football Club for one game.
00:52:21He'll be the highlight of his life, never mind anything else.
00:52:24You know, and so he's done tremendously well.
00:52:27A period during Walford Nancy's time when he was left out of the side,
00:52:30which was quite surreal to be perfectly honest with him.
00:52:33Because before that, he was probably Celtic's best player by a country mile.
00:52:37Yes.
00:52:37You know, so he's been very, very consistent.
00:52:40Alongside of today, I'd say Benjamin Hatham.
00:52:41I thought he'd done very well as well.
00:52:43You know, Big Tom has come on as a sub.
00:52:45He played his part.
00:52:46Meada looked as if he had a wee bit more round about him today.
00:52:49And Yang, great credit to him.
00:52:51He's had a lot of critics over.
00:52:52But to be fair, for months now, his work ethic's fantastic.
00:52:56And Alex Lockley-Chamberlain was a bit concerned because
00:52:58would he get, you know, the minutes through the game?
00:53:01But thankfully he did.
00:53:02He got off the pitch and Celtic managed to keep all outfield players on the pitch.
00:53:05Yes, indeed.
00:53:06Hard work ethic from the Celtic side under Martin O'Neill.
00:53:09It's been entertaining.
00:53:10It's been highly resourceful.
00:53:12But it finishes here as we hand you back to Gerry and Simon.
00:53:15It's Celtic 3, Motherwell 1.
00:53:19Yeah, thanks very much, Gerry McDade and Peter Grant there.
00:53:23A convincing second half performance.
00:53:25A really great, resilient Celtic team getting the 3-1 win.
00:53:30Closing that gap at the top of the table to just two points.
00:53:34They might have not had the stats in terms of possession and all the rest of it.
00:53:38But the only one that counts is that one at the top, Simon Donnelly.
00:53:42And that, in the complexion of the whole season, could be a massive 3 points.
00:53:46No, it definitely is, Gerry. It definitely is.
00:53:48You look at the possession stats here and it indicates a well-organised
00:53:54Moral team that have came here and made it really difficult at times for Celtic.
00:53:58But we came through that in the first half and we get the two goals in the second half.
00:54:03It's a really important 3 points.
00:54:05And it wasn't that never say die attitude.
00:54:07We didn't rely on a relatively under-par performance but an injury-time winner.
00:54:12Celtic dug in, they matched Motherwell.
00:54:14The press worked, they looked good going forward.
00:54:17And in Yang we had a guy who had an eye for goals today.
00:54:20We certainly did. We certainly did.
00:54:21And as you say, you look at the pictures at the end there.
00:54:24Maeda's on his backside, Yang's down.
00:54:27The effort was there right through.
00:54:30Not only the starting 11 but the boys that came on.
00:54:32Martin was decisive again at half-time.
00:54:34But Devantara on and, you know, they've dug it out again.
00:54:38It's a really big result that, bearing in mind that the other two have still to play this weekend.
00:54:43Yeah, when you look at the results at Celtic have come through those four away games.
00:54:46And then this game against Motherwell.
00:54:48To come through it the way we have is absolutely incredible.
00:54:51Let's go down trackside. We can hear live from Liam Scales and the player of the match, Yang.
00:54:57Liam, just how big a victory is that this afternoon?
00:55:00Yeah, it's massive.
00:55:02You know, they're a really good side, Motherwell.
00:55:04They played really good football this year.
00:55:06And it's a big win.
00:55:08We need to win all the rest of our games this season.
00:55:10So, it's a good win.
00:55:13A lot has been made about the character the team has shown.
00:55:16But it took more than that this afternoon.
00:55:18It was a disciplined and certainly through the second half an impressive performance.
00:55:23Yeah, definitely.
00:55:24I feel we were unlucky with the goal we conceded.
00:55:26You know, we didn't give them any other big chances.
00:55:29So, it was disciplined defensively.
00:55:31At times against the team, that good on the ball, you're going to be without the ball.
00:55:34And I thought we were good without it.
00:55:36So, our attacking players were brilliant.
00:55:39They were brilliant in the defensive side of things, pressing.
00:55:42And then the finishes and the goals were brilliant.
00:55:44Touch on the attacking players.
00:55:46Yang, can I ask you, how does it feel to have scored two important goals this afternoon?
00:55:53I'm really happy because it's a very important game.
00:55:56We need to score more, but I'm really happy to score.
00:56:02I can see the delight in your face.
00:56:03I can also see you're very tired.
00:56:05Liam, that would have taken a lot out of the side this afternoon.
00:56:08But is that just a sign of what they're willing to give?
00:56:11Yeah, 100%.
00:56:11And we know, you know, we have a week to recover now to our next game, which is unusual.
00:56:15So, I think we felt that we could really, really press them and really get after them when they had
00:56:21the ball.
00:56:21So, yeah, there was a lot of ground cover, especially by the likes of Yang and Dyson and the front
00:56:26lads.
00:56:27But, you know, we've got a lot of time to recover now and we'll be right for next week.
00:56:31And I know you'll be missing Callum on the pitch, but is there that extra bit of pride wearing that
00:56:35armband on a day like today?
00:56:37Yeah, definitely. Definitely. It's always an honour.
00:56:40You know, and obviously standing in for Cal is a huge honour in itself.
00:56:44You know, he's a top player, top captain.
00:56:46So, yeah, no, it feels good. It definitely feels good. You know, it's a nice feeling.
00:56:51Well, top players score top goals and they get Man of the Match awards today.
00:56:56Yang, you are the Daphabet Man of the Match.
00:56:58Liam, can you do the honour?
00:56:59Well done.
00:57:00Well done, guys.
00:57:01Thank you very much.
00:57:04Well done to the guys. Well done, Liam. Well done, Yang.
00:57:06Let's have a look and see what that does to the league table.
00:57:09Hearts are still top and they play tonight at eight o'clock away to Kilmarnock.
00:57:14But Celtic now just two points behind Hearts and really Simon putting the pressure on.
00:57:18And it's testing the metal of Hearts who deserve to be where they are.
00:57:22But can they stay there?
00:57:23Do they have the staying power?
00:57:24Now we'll see.
00:57:25Well, hopefully for Murta.
00:57:26Perspective not.
00:57:28But yeah, it puts the pressure on Hearts.
00:57:30You can only take care of the job that your game...
00:57:34It was a difficult game this afternoon against Motherwell.
00:57:37But we come away with the three points.
00:57:39And you know, just the way the title race is going.
00:57:43It's another little twist that puts pressure on down at Rugby Park tonight.
00:57:47Hearts will have a difficult game.
00:57:48It does indeed.
00:57:49And I don't know if ever Celtic fans have wanted Neil McCann to do well.
00:57:53But we wish Neil McCann all the very best for tonight's game.
00:57:56Let's look back on the goals from this match then.
00:57:59You know, they ended up smiling.
00:58:00They ended up celebrating.
00:58:01But Celtic had to come from a goal down.
00:58:04A little mix up and defence here between Sinisalo and Hattati gave the ball away.
00:58:08Elijah just still had a lot to do.
00:58:09But managed to tuck that left-foot shot low past Sinisalo.
00:58:13And at this stage it kind of felt ominous, didn't it?
00:58:16Yeah, we didn't do it the easy way.
00:58:17And you watch Hattati here.
00:58:19It's a straight ball.
00:58:19He's got his back to play.
00:58:20He has a look to his left and his right.
00:58:23And he opts to try and take the ball to his right hand side.
00:58:27When I think maybe the best option for him would have just been to play it to Arthur
00:58:32in the right back area.
00:58:34He gets caught on the ball.
00:58:35And it's a good finish from Motherwell.
00:58:37And you know, that's a difficult situation against a team that like to keep a lot of
00:58:42possession, comfortable possession, and they get their noses in front.
00:58:46So it was credit to the team that we managed to get back to our living terms.
00:58:50Many Celtic supporters are looking for Jens Bertolasko to become the Celtic manager after
00:58:55Martin departs.
00:58:57And you can see he knows how to set up a football team.
00:59:02They understand their positions.
00:59:03They know exactly what to have to do.
00:59:04And they're confident in possession as well.
00:59:06Yeah, they are.
00:59:07They are.
00:59:07And he's got boys doing things there that have been there before.
00:59:12Playing for a mother who likes to Steven O'Donnell and McGinn.
00:59:14But they all seem to be singing off the same hymn sheet.
00:59:17And they're difficult opponents.
00:59:19Yang didn't say much in his post-match interview.
00:59:21I wouldn't if I was asked to speak Korean to be fair to him.
00:59:24But he did say we need to score more goals.
00:59:26And that really summed it up.
00:59:28And it was the attacking players that came to the floor finally this afternoon for Celtic.
00:59:33Against a team with the best defensive record in Britain.
00:59:35Yeah, we forced the issue here a little bit.
00:59:38Gave them a little bit of their own medicine in terms of putting pressure on the back line.
00:59:42And it's paid dividends.
00:59:44You know, McGinn's on it quickly.
00:59:45The keeper makes a decent stop.
00:59:47I think he's trying to pick out Dyson after we capitalise on the short pass back.
00:59:53And it just finds its way to the edge of the box.
00:59:55But credit to Yang.
00:59:56He's on his toes.
00:59:57He reacts quickly.
00:59:59And it's a decent finish.
01:00:00You know, he just pushes it firmly into that bottom corner.
01:00:04And it's a big goal.
01:00:04It got us back in the game.
01:00:06You see again, like 1-0 at half-time.
01:00:08Heads might be down.
01:00:09But they managed to get back on level terms here.
01:00:11It's a good finish from Yang.
01:00:13Who worked hard, tirelessly, throughout the 90 minutes.
01:00:15Yeah, Liam Scales did mention about the work rate and the running.
01:00:18And, you know, the forward players, the likes of Yang and Dyson Maeda.
01:00:22I'm not sure many people would have had Yang down as the goal scorer.
01:00:27The goal scoring hero this afternoon.
01:00:29The man of the match.
01:00:30He's quite a shy player.
01:00:32Quite a quiet player.
01:00:33But he was certainly the man that deserved that accolade.
01:00:36Into the second half then.
01:00:37And there were a number of chances that Celtic had.
01:00:40The crowd played their part this afternoon as well.
01:00:42And before we look at the couple of goals that Celtic got,
01:00:45we can look at some of the other chances that fell Celtic's way.
01:00:48Yeah, I think Guarante touched on it as well.
01:00:50The dynamics of the crowd this afternoon.
01:00:52I think the fact that we're in a tail race and we're coming from behind.
01:00:56You know, the fans got behind the team in this second half.
01:00:59This is one in the meeting.
01:01:00And you can see it was working.
01:01:01There was a connection there.
01:01:02Yeah, there was.
01:01:03And this one here takes a deflection.
01:01:05The keeper's rooted.
01:01:06He's beaten.
01:01:07Unfortunately for us, it just hits the base of the post.
01:01:11And it wasn't Negrim's day in terms of goalscoring.
01:01:15He's popped up with important goals.
01:01:17But we were pushing and putting pressure on Motherwell.
01:01:20We started the second half reasonably well.
01:01:22Dyson much more effective on the left than he was through the middle.
01:01:24Yeah, that's another one that just takes a little deflection.
01:01:26The keeper does well.
01:01:27I think that's maybe just going to deflect into the path.
01:01:29I think it's Twanchira at the back there and the keeper makes a decent stop.
01:01:33But we were pushing, you know, and we were trying to get that second goal.
01:01:37The fans were reacting to that positive play.
01:01:40And eventually we got the second goal without the penalty.
01:01:44The manager brought off Benjamin Negrim.
01:01:46This was a good chance.
01:01:47The keeper did well there again.
01:01:47Yeah, that was a good opportunity.
01:01:48The goalkeeper did well coming off his line quickly.
01:01:50The manager took off the top scorer Negrim at 1-1.
01:01:53Yeah.
01:01:53Some question marks.
01:01:54I know Peter was a little bit surprised at that.
01:01:57As was Jeremy Dade yourself as well.
01:01:59Yeah.
01:02:00But we know why Martin's down there.
01:02:02Yeah, well, none of us are in the hot seat.
01:02:05Martin is.
01:02:06And, you know, I mentioned it before the game as well.
01:02:08I think he's very decisive and proactive in his substitutions at different times.
01:02:14I go back to the game at Ibrox when we're 2-0 down.
01:02:18Bang, he puts the subs on.
01:02:19He's not shy to do that, but he's got the huge experience.
01:02:23He knows he can read the game so well.
01:02:25But yeah, just put the subs on.
01:02:27And like in the recent games, everybody, it's all hands to the pump.
01:02:31Everybody's playing their part and we managed to go over the line again.
01:02:34Were you confident that the goals would come?
01:02:38I wouldn't say confident because it's a difficult team you're playing against.
01:02:42You're hoping that they can create.
01:02:44We touched on it again at the start of the day.
01:02:47The goals haven't been...
01:02:48I mean, Yang touches on it there.
01:02:50We haven't been finding goals coming easily to this team of late.
01:02:54But as long as you get more on the opposition.
01:02:57They did it at Boutoudry and we found another way today.
01:03:00You know, the penalty, we'll see it just now.
01:03:03For me, it's a slow and wall penalty.
01:03:06Longalow wrestles Maeda to the ground.
01:03:08And we capitalise on it.
01:03:09And then the second goal, the third goal that makes it a wee bit more relaxed.
01:03:14It's actually just a straight ball through that Motherwell don't deal with.
01:03:17And Yang's on to it quickly.
01:03:18We'll see the two goals in just a second.
01:03:20We're just getting ready to show you them.
01:03:22We'll hear from Martin O'Neill as well when he comes out of the dressing room.
01:03:27Of course, what Celtic have now is they've got a bit of a break.
01:03:29We don't have those midweeks.
01:03:30The midweek fixtures are finished for a while.
01:03:33So a bit of a rest before a trip to Tannadys next weekend.
01:03:36Yeah, definitely.
01:03:36I think Liam Scales touched on it there.
01:03:39A little bit of injuries.
01:03:42You know, the captain's out at the moment.
01:03:44You don't have that midweek game to worry about now.
01:03:47You can just concentrate on next Sunday at Tannadys.
01:03:49Absolutely.
01:03:50I believe we can go down to the tunnel area.
01:03:52Martin O'Neill is there waiting with John.
01:03:56Martin, this game had top billing in Scottish football this weekend.
01:04:00Did it live up to that and how pleased are you with the performance?
01:04:02Oh yeah, very much lived up to it.
01:04:05It was a great performance.
01:04:07Great by both teams, in all honesty.
01:04:10Great game of football.
01:04:11Really tough.
01:04:12We knew it was going to be tough for us.
01:04:14I mean, it's proved to be the case.
01:04:16Mother Weller, a fine, fine side.
01:04:18But we showed a lot of determination coming from the goal behind,
01:04:22having just given them a goal.
01:04:24And it was a terrific performance.
01:04:28And Yang was absolutely outstanding.
01:04:30And they got the goals which he deserved.
01:04:32And I thought Dyson was also brilliant.
01:04:35Yeah, I was going to ask you about Yang.
01:04:38His goal, he's anticipated that first goal, but the composure that he has shown
01:04:44and what has ultimately been the final goal of the game was quite fantastic.
01:04:47Well, two great goals.
01:04:49Two really great goals.
01:04:50And he deserved them.
01:04:53He deserved them.
01:04:54Not only doing the work going forward, I don't know where he gets the energy from, but working back.
01:04:59You know, seriously, I wouldn't mind playing full-back behind him.
01:05:03He does the job for you.
01:05:05But really, he was terrific.
01:05:08Terrific.
01:05:09Today, with the second half, we were just really good at them.
01:05:13Really did.
01:05:14I thought there was periods in the first half, but the game was yo-yoing between
01:05:18whichever side had the ball.
01:05:21They did well.
01:05:22Mother Weller did.
01:05:23Carved out some openings.
01:05:24We did the same as well too.
01:05:26Couldn't just get that ball in.
01:05:28Then we give away the goal.
01:05:29That's a long way back from there, you think.
01:05:31But the lads have shown fantastic character.
01:05:34But today, we played some great stuff.
01:05:37Liam Scales made reference as well to the defensive work from the front line all the way back.
01:05:41But he was also pleased with the discipline shown, particularly against the side that
01:05:45are so comfortable moving the ball.
01:05:47Yeah, of course.
01:05:48Mother Weller have made an act of this here during the course of the season.
01:05:53And well done them.
01:05:54They really can play.
01:05:57So we knew there were moments when they would have the ball that would be difficult for
01:06:02us.
01:06:03Because when you cover an awful lot of ground, and then you don't have any reward for it
01:06:07for 10 or 15 minutes, you feel as if, oh gosh, where will I get the energy to go again?
01:06:12But that's what they did.
01:06:13The team did this here.
01:06:14We fought back from a goal behind here.
01:06:16And we've won.
01:06:18And it's a great victory for us.
01:06:20You know, in the scheme of things, who knows what it might do or what it might not do.
01:06:25But at the end of it all, it was a great win.
01:06:27Fans got behind us, which was great.
01:06:30And no, I'm just, I couldn't be more pleased.
01:06:32But the one thing it won't do is any harm to the kind of camaraderie in the squad.
01:06:37Do you sense that coming together, these last five, six games?
01:06:39No, no, no.
01:06:41They've had it now in abundance, really.
01:06:43You know, I don't think you can go on the sort of run that we've had without having
01:06:48some sort of camaraderie in the dressing room.
01:06:49The spirit is great.
01:06:51It's really great.
01:06:51And that's regardless of what happens between now and the end of the season.
01:06:54The spirit, there's nothing wrong with the spirit.
01:06:56Anybody can get disappointed with losing a game, as we did against Hibbs here.
01:07:01You can get disappointed.
01:07:03But if you certainly take the positives from it, and there were a lot of positives that
01:07:06particular day.
01:07:09And to me, it was just one of those things at the end of all.
01:07:17I think the game changed in the last 20 minutes of the match.
01:07:20And I'm talking about the Hibbs game.
01:07:22Listen here.
01:07:23I'm wandering on.
01:07:24It doesn't really matter.
01:07:25We played great today.
01:07:26And I'm delighted.
01:07:27I'm delighted with the team.
01:07:28But in terms of team spirit and camaraderie, it's been there in abundance.
01:07:32Well done again.
01:07:33A fantastic victory, man.
01:07:34Thank you very much.
01:07:36Oh, Martin O'Neill.
01:07:37Absolutely brilliant.
01:07:38Well done to him.
01:07:38Well done to the team.
01:07:40Let's have a look then at the two goals that Celtic got in the second half.
01:07:44Sometimes this VAR can take an awful long time to get to what looks like a very obvious
01:07:48decision, Simon.
01:07:49Yeah, at the time.
01:07:51At worst there, I thought we were going to get a corner.
01:07:53John Beaton actually gives us a goal kick initially.
01:07:55But you watch it here.
01:07:55Maeda's round the back.
01:07:56He's got his eyes on the ball.
01:07:57Longer low.
01:07:58He's all at sea.
01:08:00He's lost his man.
01:08:01And he wrestles him to the floor.
01:08:03For me, it's a pretty straightforward decision.
01:08:06It took a few minutes, but we got there in the end.
01:08:08And yeah, it gave us the all important second goal.
01:08:11Yeah, the red card as well rubbed salt in the wounds.
01:08:15I must admit, I'm not quite sure of the rule.
01:08:17I thought there was a kind of a double jeopardy thing.
01:08:19Yeah.
01:08:19But anyway, up step Thomas Schwanchera.
01:08:22And that is as cool a finish as you like.
01:08:24He went left against Rangers.
01:08:26He went right down the middle that time.
01:08:29Celtic got themselves a lethal penalty taker.
01:08:32That was a real cool finish.
01:08:33It was a cool finish.
01:08:34Yeah, it was a cool finish.
01:08:35And then we see this.
01:08:36And this.
01:08:37This was a decisive one, wasn't it?
01:08:38Yeah, just a clearance.
01:08:41And Yang, like his first goal.
01:08:42He's the first guy to react.
01:08:44In and goal.
01:08:45Boring down in the keeper.
01:08:47Does he get an assist for this?
01:08:49Possibly.
01:08:50I think no one touches it.
01:08:50The defender maybe gets a little touch.
01:08:52But this is a great finish.
01:08:54He's in there.
01:08:55He reacts first.
01:08:56He comes from the right hand side.
01:08:57He's on his left foot this time.
01:08:59Just the first guy to react.
01:09:02Might not actually touch.
01:09:03So he's in here.
01:09:04He lifts it over the keeper.
01:09:06And that's the goal that effectively wins the game.
01:09:08They could relax.
01:09:10What a way to win the game.
01:09:11Yang was the man of the match.
01:09:12Two goals for our South Korean winger.
01:09:14Takes Celtic just two points behind Hearts.
01:09:17And puts the pressure on the league leaders.
01:09:19Next up, a trip away to Dundee United at Tanadice next weekend.
01:09:22Thanks very much for your company this afternoon.
01:09:24Thanks to Simon, to Gerry McDade, to Peter Grant.
01:09:26We'll see you again very soon.
01:09:27Bye bye.
01:09:28Billy McNeil holding the cup for Celtic.
01:09:32That is sensational.
01:09:36That is sensational.
01:09:40Skelting all the champions.
01:09:44That is sensational.
01:10:02Bye bye.
01:10:02Bye bye.
01:10:02Bye bye.
01:10:38Bye bye.
01:10:38Bye bye.
01:11:00Bye bye.
01:11:02Bye bye.
01:11:04Bye bye.
01:11:19Bye bye.
