00:01:39in amongst it, even more so if they can get a win this afternoon here at Dens Park.
00:01:45It is Dundee against Celtic, kickoff is just under 15 minutes away.
00:01:50Great conditions at Dens Park, the pitch is looking immaculate despite the one just down the road looking less than
00:01:57immaculate just a couple of weeks ago.
00:02:00But Celtic will be delighted with the surface this afternoon. Thankfully, the bad weather conditions have gone.
00:02:06There was some hail, some snow. There was four seasons in one day in Scotland, but thankfully the sun is
00:02:11shining.
00:02:12Great conditions for the game. Simon Donnelly alongside me, Gerry McCulloch.
00:02:15Simon, of course, the big news that has just happened in Scottish football is the Hearts have dropped a couple
00:02:20of points, which means they now sit on 67, Rangers on 66 and Celtic on 61.
00:02:28This is their game in hand and a chance to pull it right back and right in amongst the mix
00:02:32this afternoon.
00:02:33Yes, it's a massive afternoon now. The incentive is there, obviously, with the result coming through from Livingston to get
00:02:41right back into the mix.
00:02:42The games are only going to get bigger, Gerry, from here on in, but it's vital that we get three
00:02:47points this afternoon.
00:02:48I mean, the surface can only help. We touched on Tanadice a few weeks ago. It was pretty poor and
00:02:54the dense surface looks ten times better.
00:02:58So that can only suit us, but it's a massive game this afternoon.
00:03:01It is indeed. Let's have a look then at the starting 11 that Martin O'Neill has gone with this
00:03:06afternoon.
00:03:06It will be Sinisalo in goal, a back four of Colby Donovan, Austen Trusty back in the side alongside Liam
00:03:13Scales and Kieran Tierney, who's at left back.
00:03:15Captain Callum McGregor in that midfield alongside Alex Oxley-Chamberlain and Celtic's top scorer Benjamin Negrin.
00:03:21A goal this afternoon for the Swede would take him up to 20 for the season.
00:03:26On the wings for Celtic, Yang on one side, Maeda on the other and Thomas Tchvanchira, the check forward through
00:03:32the middle.
00:03:33On the bench, Doohan, the substitute goalkeeper, outfield players, McCowan, Iheanacho, Tunectie, Saracce, Hatate, Arthur, Forrest and Ralston.
00:03:43And Simon Donnelly, your thoughts on that team, particularly the return of Austen Trusty and also Alex Oxley-Chamberlain there
00:03:49in that midfield.
00:03:50Yeah, it's interesting. The managers opted for the experience of Oxley-Chamberlain coming in to play alongside Callum in the
00:03:56middle of the park.
00:03:58Obviously, Hatate had been in there and doing well, I think, up until the game at Tanadice where I don't
00:04:03think Celtic really performed at all in the afternoon, if I'm being honest.
00:04:06But it's interesting that midfield three, Negrin, as you touched on there, seems to be the guy that you go
00:04:12to for goals in this team.
00:04:13But I think responsibility of the front three as well this afternoon, they'll need to kind of look to bring
00:04:20a little bit more firepower to that front line for Celtic because goals have been few and far between.
00:04:25Yeah, they have indeed. And that's what Martin O'Neill will be looking for this afternoon.
00:04:28Let's hear from the Celtic manager a short time ago, pitch side at Dens Park. He spoke to our reporter,

00:04:35Martin, first things first, happy Easter.
00:04:38We're here, first game back after a small break. Did you enjoy having a lot of time off? Has it
00:04:45helped?
00:04:45Yeah, I think just to regather thoughts, you know, just have a look at it, the situation of where we
00:04:52find ourselves.
00:04:53It would have been nicer to have gone into it with a better performance and a better result against Undie
00:04:57United.
00:04:58But it is what it is now and we have to win. We have to try and win today and
00:05:02we have to try and keep our title hopes alive as much as anything else.
00:05:08And that's the job today.
00:05:10You referenced that disappointing afternoon just a fortnight or so ago just along the road.
00:05:15Dundee hasn't been a happy hunting ground for us this season, let's be honest.
00:05:19But what do we need to do to rectify that here today?
00:05:21Have to try and win? Yeah, you're right.
00:05:23I mean, we've, the team under three different managers have lost in Dundee, lost at Denz Park, lost at Dundee
00:05:29United twice.
00:05:30So here's the chance to rectify that if we can.
00:05:33But it's not, you know, yes, of course people are going to look at it like that there.
00:05:38But overall, it's up to us to try and try and win the game, trying to try and be as
00:05:42strong as possible today, trying to be as physically aggressive in many aspects.
00:05:47You know, that's asking a lot for a team that's probably, that has denied them in many aspects.
00:05:53But overall, it's just, we've got to try and win the game.
00:05:56We know, of course, that Dundee carry a threat.
00:05:59We've seen that throughout the season against ourselves and in other matches.
00:06:02But we also see that Austin Trustee is back in at the back for us this afternoon.
00:06:07Is there a hope that he can add a bit of assurance and sort of deal with that threat that
00:06:10they pose?
00:06:11Yeah, I don't think that, you know, that, yeah, Austin has been terrific for us for months and months.
00:06:18You know, got himself sent off in that game against Tibbs.
00:06:20I think if he'd stayed on the pitch, I think we were just getting momentum.
00:06:24I mean, might have won, who knows, you don't know.
00:06:26But that would have been important.
00:06:27Then he missed a few games, obviously through suspension, came back in for the cup game at Rangers.
00:06:33Then had he drop out again for his last match.
00:06:35So overall, but the team haven't done too badly in that aspect since he's been away.
00:06:40But in he comes now and hopefully he can add the bits that we think Trusty can normally do.
00:06:46Yeah, and finally, Matt, and I'll ask you a final question before they start turning this music up any louder
00:06:49in the stadium.
00:06:51We obviously know that, you know, things couldn't be any more tense.
00:06:53Games are running out every week that passes by.

00:08:45How much are you looking forward to getting back into the mindset and attacking this part of the season?
00:08:50Aye, this is the business end.
00:08:53We as a team know what needs to be done to have a good end to the season.
00:08:57And that's what we'll be fully focused on for the remainder of the time.
00:09:01There's been a lot said at the start of the season in terms of fitness.
00:09:04Could you go a full season?
00:09:05I think some people were being ridiculous asking if you could even go
00:09:0990 minutes, but nearly 50 appearances for you this season.
00:09:12Five goals, 11 assists.
00:09:14How satisfying is it for you to just quieten those people that had doubts over that?
00:09:20Yes, people are always going to do it.
00:09:21And they'll still say it the day.
00:09:23And there's nothing you can do apart from work hard.
00:09:27And I'm just so grateful because the club, one of the reasons I came back is because I know the
00:09:31club so well.
00:09:32They know me and they probably knew that I was going to need a bit of time.
00:09:35So the club never put pressure on me at the start to play three games a week, three 90 minutes
00:09:40a week.
00:09:40It was a slow build up.
00:09:41And that was always the plan.
00:09:44So in my head at the time, I was like, oh, maybe I would like to play more and longer
00:09:48and be fitter and be stronger.
00:09:50But I knew it was a process.
00:09:52I think I've played more minutes this season than the last two or three seasons combined.
00:09:58So that is, I'm proud of that and I work hard on that.
00:10:01I look after myself.
00:10:03And that's it.
00:10:04I just try to do my best for Celtic and hopefully we get the rewards.
00:10:08I've just got to ask you before you go and start that working preparation.
00:10:12It's 11 years to the month and you made your debut at Dens Park against Dundee.
00:10:18You came on for Emilio Izaguiri that night.
00:10:21How would you reflect on it all since then, Kieran?
00:10:24And if you had to give yourself coming on the pitch that night a bit of advice for what way
00:10:28ahead, what would you say?
00:10:31You can't prepare for something like that.
00:10:32You just kind of, at the time, I was so nervous, Kieran, I think the first time I got it,
00:10:36I gave it straight away.
00:10:39But 11 years is mental.
00:10:42I'm grateful for the opportunity at the time.
00:10:45Obviously, it was Ronnie Dyler.
00:10:46I'm grateful for every single manager and coach that I've worked with and that's got me here today.
00:10:50And, yeah, it's just, it's been a rollercoaster, ups and downs everywhere.
00:10:55And I think everyone's the same.
00:10:56Their career is not all playing Cairns.
00:10:58So, just grateful for everything.
00:11:06Kieran Tierney looking ahead to this game, which will kick off in just a few minutes.
00:11:12And, Simon, I suppose at this stage of the season with three teams fighting it out for the title,
00:11:17which in recent decades is unusual for Scottish football at this stage of the season.
00:11:21How much of it is, not so much down to the football ability on the pitch,
00:11:27but also how much these players can handle the pressure?
00:11:30Yeah, definitely.
00:11:31I think mentality is going to come into it.
00:11:34For teams like Hearts, it's new territory.
00:11:36Celtic have been over the ground many times.
00:11:39But as you quite rightly say there, Gerry, not with the three horse race.
00:11:43And it certainly is that this year with Celtic at this current moment chasing.
00:11:47But, yeah, mentality.
00:11:49And I think that maybe gives Celtic an edge.
00:11:51They've got players in there that have been over this ground many a time
00:11:55in terms of winning the championship.
00:11:57That can only serve well.
00:11:58But I think with these games, I said earlier on, they're going to get more intense.
00:12:03The heat is going to intensify even more as we get closer to the, indeed, the split.
00:12:09You know, we're two games away from the split and then everybody has to play each other again.
00:12:12But, yeah, it's exciting times.
00:12:15But, yeah, a cool head is needed.

00:12:22But winning at Dundee is something that Celtic haven't managed to do this season.

00:12:35That Celtic with three visits to this city.
00:12:38Two to Tanadice and one here to Denz Park.
00:12:40They've lost all three games.
00:12:43So, Callum McGregor will be looking to put that right this afternoon and for Celtic to get their first win
00:12:48at Dundee this season.

00:12:56They're in the bottom six but they gave Celtic a real going over earlier on in the season with that

00:13:06Well, I think Celtic will have to be at their best to get the three points.
00:13:09I think Dundee will be stiff opposition.
00:13:12They proved that in the Scottish Cup as well when it took us right to the death in tax of

00:13:18And as you say, up here earlier in the season, we're left with no points whatsoever.
00:13:22So, Celtic will have to be on top of their game.

00:14:54He, of course, had a great season last season in front of goal but not really been firing in all
00:14:58cylinders in that respect this season.
00:15:01So he's out left and Thomas Czwanchira through the middle had a good start with that lovely assist for Yang
00:15:07at Tynecastle.
00:15:08Scored the winning penalty, of course, against Rangers under real pressure at Ibrox.
