00:00:30That is sensational.
00:00:37Helping all the champions.
00:02:17Good afternoon and welcome to Ibrox.
00:02:22Some Scottish Cup moments there for Celtic that live long in the mind.
00:02:26And now the focus turns back to the here and now as Celtic arrive in Govan for another cup tie.
00:02:33Martin O'Neill on his side are back at Ibrox just seven days on from the last meeting with a
00:02:39place at Hampden Park.
00:02:41All on the line as the Scottish Cup reaches the business end.
00:02:44It is a win that Celtic need and it's always a big ask in this stadium.
00:02:48But there is a massive travel and support behind the team today with seven and a half thousand Celtic fans
00:02:54in the Broomland Road stand for the first time in almost eight years.
00:02:59It's Rangers versus Celtic.
00:03:01The Glasgow Derby, our Scottish Cup quarterfinal live on Celtic TV and kick-off is now less than 15 minutes
00:03:09away.
00:03:09And I'm Daylon Doherty and I'm delighted to be joined by our Scottish Cup winner in Simon Donnelly who's just
00:03:15made it back safely from the Middle East to take in what should be another tense meeting between Glasgow's two
00:03:22rivals.
00:03:22Well, Simon Donnelly, always a pleasure. How are you first of all?
00:03:26I'm great, Dylan. Absolutely brilliant. Yeah, just a weird experience over there and I just wish everybody that's trying to
00:03:33get home that they get home safely as quick as possible.
00:03:36But I'm looking forward to the game today.
00:03:38Well, it's good to have you back home and safe. I know Tosh McKinley was out in Dubai with you.
00:03:43A few ex-celts. Darren Jackson was there as well, Brian O'Neill. So I was in good company.
00:03:47I think that kind of helped that we were there. We weren't there on our own. So, yeah, it was
00:03:52an experience. But, hey, this is an experience at Ibrox.
00:03:55Well, I was going to say, I didn't want to say, but from the war zone to the battle zone
00:03:59in Govan, it's the Rangers versus Celtic today.
00:04:02Let's get right into it, Simon. Martin O'Neill has named his starting 11 and the big, big news is
00:04:08that Liam Scales, captains aside, Cal McGregor and Kieran Tierney miss out.
00:04:14Let's get through that team. Sinasalo and goals. Araujo, Arthur, Trusty, Scales, the captain, Hattati, McEwen, Benjamin Negrin, the leading
00:04:22goal scorer for Celtic.
00:04:24Yang, Tenekte and Maid on the bench. It's Duhan, Tranchara, Oxlade, Chamberlain, Bernardo, Nvuka, Sarachi, Murray, Forrest and Donovan.
00:04:34Big, big call from the manager, Simon Donnelly. What's your thoughts on it?
00:04:38Well, listen, it's a blow to lose the likes of your captain. Of course it is. He's the leader of
00:04:42the team. He plays every week.
00:04:45And Kieran Tierney, he's more or less a captain himself, you know, from, he knows the club inside out.
00:04:51He's been in goal scoring form, recently popped up the goals in the last two games.
00:04:55So it's a blow. But with that, there's an opportunity for others to come in and step up to the
00:05:00plate.
00:05:00It's a massive game, quite a fan of the Scottish Cup.
00:05:03I look to the two Japanese boys that have been over this course before and they've been top performers in
00:05:07this particular fixture.
00:05:09Can they go and do it again?
00:05:10Well, absolutely. That is the big question.
00:05:13The big question as well, Simon, Celtic, safe to say they didn't have the best of starts at Ibrox last
00:05:19week.
00:05:19It was a very, you know, difficult first half and they went 2-0 down.
00:05:24How does this Celtic team learn from that mistake of last week?
00:05:28Well, they have to start better, without doubt.
00:05:30I mean, they lost the goal early in the game, which obviously rocked them.
00:05:34And then they lost a second one.
00:05:35And it was a poor first half.
00:05:37We'll admit it was a poor half.
00:05:38I don't think they had any efforts in goal, really.
00:05:41But to turn it on its head, the manager was proactive at half-time.
00:05:44He made changes.
00:05:45It helped the team.
00:05:46They came out and had 16-17 efforts in goal in the second half.
00:05:49I thought it was a moral win in the end.
00:05:51They could have went on and won the game.
00:05:52And I think that must give you a lift coming into today.
00:05:55But you're right there.
00:05:56They have to start this one much better than last week.
00:05:58Let's have a look at the opposition.
00:06:01Danny Roel has named his side.
00:06:03Jack Buckland, he captains Rangers today in goal.
00:06:06We've got Dujan Sterling, Nasser Duga, Emmanuel Fernandes.
00:06:10There's two Romans to round out the back four in midfield.
00:06:13It's Nico Raskan and Mohamed Diomande.
00:06:16Andreas Skov-Olsen and Mikey Moore in the advanced positions.
00:06:20And up front, it's Ryan Nadiri and Yusef Cermiti.
00:06:23We've got two goals against Celtic last week, Simon.
00:06:25Two changes from that 2-2 draw for Danny Roel and his side.
00:06:29How do they look at this game today?
00:06:32That would have been a psychological blow last week,
00:06:34throwing that game at half-time.
00:06:35They might have thought this could be anything.
00:06:37It flipped, as you said.
00:06:38How do they deal with that today?
00:06:39Well, I think they'd have to look to try and start
00:06:41the same way as they did last week.
00:06:43I like the lad, Mikey Moore.
00:06:45I think he's a threat.
00:06:46And Cermiti seems to thrive in this fixture.
00:06:49They scored a few goals in it.
00:06:50So we need to be on our guard there.
00:06:52It's a new back four for us.
00:06:54They have to defend well.
00:06:55They have to defend well in the start.
00:06:57I think Rangers will look to last week and think,
00:06:58right, can we get out here and do damage early on,
00:07:01put them on the back foot.
00:07:02So we need to be aware of that.
00:07:03Well, Martin O'Neill has picked his starting oven.
00:07:06He caught up with Matthew Campbell down in the tunnel area
00:07:08just a little bit earlier on.
00:07:10Martin, another Sunday at Ibrox for us.
00:07:14This time, obviously, Scottish Cup duty.
00:07:16First of all, just give us your thoughts ahead of this one.
00:07:18Yeah, looking forward to it.
00:07:21Obviously, it's a knockout.
00:07:23It's on the day as well, too.
00:07:24So we have to be at our best to win today.
00:07:29No question about that.
00:07:31Have to start faster than we did last week.
00:07:33We can't go to sleep for long periods of the first half,
00:07:37which we did last week,
00:07:38and give ourselves a mountain to climb,
00:07:41which we eventually fought through it anyway
00:07:44to get a very, very creditable draw in the game at Ibrox.
00:07:48But today, different set of circumstances, of course.
00:07:52It's a cup match, and we want to do really well.
00:07:54In terms of the starting oven, Martin,
00:07:58we see obviously that Cairn Tierney and Callum McGregor aren't involved.
00:08:02Can we just get a little update on both of those?
00:08:05Yeah, yeah.
00:08:07I think that on Callum.
00:08:09Callum has just had a bit of a problem on his leg.
00:08:13He was feeling it just in the latter stages of Aberdeen.
00:08:18And we decided today, in the longer picture,
00:08:22that it's most important for us.
00:08:24Don't want him to play in the game here,
00:08:27do an awful lot of damage,
00:08:29and then find out maybe he missed the rest of the season.
00:08:31So we'll tread carefully with that one.
00:08:35And in many aspects, it's a similar situation with Cairn in that sense.
00:08:42Although Cairn might have been able to have played some part of the game today,
00:08:47and I thought the best thing to do is just leave it alone.
00:08:50In terms of last week's match, you mentioned,
00:08:52obviously, we can take a lot of confidence from the fight back
00:08:55and the spirit in the second half.
00:08:56But is there a real focus on rectifying that start to the match that we had
00:09:01in terms of trying to turn the atmosphere in the place?
00:09:04Of course, because that's exactly what we want to try and do.
00:09:06You know, for all the best will in the world, it may not happen,
00:09:10but this is exactly, this is our endeavour.
00:09:12We're going to try and start a bit quicker,
00:09:15try and be in the game as early as possible.
00:09:18And finally, Martin, a little bit of a throwback in many ways today,
00:09:22given the fact that we've got a full stand of our supporters behind us.
00:09:26In these sort of circumstances, how much can they be part of our strength here?
00:09:31They always have been, in all honesty.
00:09:33They've always been, and Celtic support has been absolutely fantastic.
00:09:38It is a throwback to the older days.
00:09:40It's something that, you know, from a distance, I would be welcoming
00:09:44because I just think it's an enormous part of an old-farm derby game,
00:09:50and it's great for it.
00:09:52You know, it's kind of reminiscent in many aspects from way back in my time,
00:09:57but we'll see.
00:09:58They've not done an enormous part to play, but they've always done it.
00:10:02Best of luck today, Martin.
00:10:03Thank you very much.
00:10:05Well, Martin and Neil speaking to Matthew Campbell down in the tunnel area earlier on.
00:10:11You might be wondering why you're not seeing pictures of the game so far.
00:10:14We're just waiting on our broadcast partner supplying with those images from iBrooks.
00:10:19As soon as we've got them, we will be crossing straight to the pictures
00:10:23as the atmosphere is obviously building up at iBrooks.
00:10:27And here's some pictures that just now, you heard Martin and Neil speaking there, Simon.
00:10:32He was asked about the 7,500 Celtic fans in the away end at iBrooks.
00:10:37It's almost eight years to the day since Odson Edwards' goal at that Celtic end at iBrooks.
00:10:43That was the last time we had fans of that number in the stadium.
00:10:47How you've played in the derbies where Celtic housed that end out.
00:10:52How big is it for Celtic to have that travel and support there?
00:10:56It's massive.
00:10:57It's massive.
00:10:57I think it can only help the team.
00:10:59In recent times, we've had to have deplete numbers there.
00:11:02It's been a shame for the spectacle of the game.
00:11:06I think both teams, when they go to each other's grounds, should have that allocation.
00:11:12And it's a spectacle.
00:11:13You know, unlike any other, I think it can only help the team today with that backing.
00:11:18When they run out and that green light's on the left there,
00:11:20that'll give them that little bit of lift getting into the so-called Lions' den.
00:11:25Well, it is quite an incredible scene to see that stand packed out with Celtic fans once again.
00:11:31It will be, as you say, Simon, such a lift for the players as they walk out the tunnel
00:11:36to see that travelling support, ready to roar them on to victory in a stadium
00:11:41that is very difficult to get a win.
00:11:44Celtic currently on their longest run in 13, 14 years without a win at iBrooks.
00:11:49Five games without a win.
00:11:50Drawn four of them, though, so the fine margins are there.
00:11:53How do they overcome and get a win today?
00:11:55They start the game better than last week, first and foremost.
00:11:58I think these runs are there to be broken.
00:12:00It'd be fantastic in front of the 7,500 that are in here at iBrooks this afternoon
00:12:05for Celtic to put on a performance.
00:12:07You've seen the scenes last week when we got it back to two each
00:12:09with the small number of fans in the corner.
00:12:12It was carnage, and let's hope we can see a little bit more of that celebration this afternoon.
00:12:18The Celtic fans were waiting for the team to come out the tunnel,
00:12:22and I think they've just got their cue.
00:12:28What a sight that is, the Celtic fans.
00:12:38As Liam scales in the tunnel, as they are about to make way into a theatre of battle.
00:12:55Celtic, of course, the most successful team in the land with 42 Scottish Cup wins.
00:13:01They'll be looking to make it 43 should they get through this game
00:13:06and set their sights on a date at Hampden Park for the semi-final in late April.
00:13:21And here they come, it's Rangers versus Celtic at iBrooks, the Scottish Cup quarterfinal.
00:13:31A real throwback as Liam scales leads the team out.
00:13:37The Celtic fans applaud, the most successful team in the land onto the pitch.
00:13:54And we'll just get through the starting eleven once again.
00:13:58A reminder, Martin O'Neill has made three changes from the win against Aberdeen on Wednesday night.
00:14:05It's Viljami Sinasalo in goals, it's Julian Araujo, Benjamin Arthur, Austin Trusty and the captain Liam scales.
00:14:12Rio Hattati, Luke McCown and Negrin round out the midfield,
00:14:17and it's Yang Tenekte and it's Maeda up front.
00:14:22And for the visit with the host side, it's Jack Butland in goals,
00:14:27Dujon Sterling, Nasser Giga, Emmanuel Fernandes and Tour Romans.
00:14:31In midfield, it's Nico Raskin, Mohamed Diomande, Andreas Skowalsson, Mikey Moore and Ryan Nadiri and Yusuf Shirmite.
00:14:41Well, one of the stats, Simon, Celtic have conceded nine times in the first half hour at iBrooks since 2012.
00:14:50So, how important is it that they just get through the first 30 minutes at iBrooks?
00:14:55Yeah, maybe not even half, but the first few minutes, I mean, they just scored early last week.
00:15:00And, you know, you've got three sides of the stadium back in their home team,
00:15:05you don't want to give them any encouragement, you've got to quiet that as possible, as quick as possible.
00:15:11And, you know, yeah, if you just stay concentrated, you start the game better.
00:15:14Last week, slow start, you've got it all to do at half time, 2-0 down, don't be in that
00:15:18position again.
00:15:19Well, William Skowals goes over, it's the second time he's captained Celtic this season,
00:15:26and that is a big, big team talk in the huddle.
00:15:31And at iBrooks, massive team talk from the stand-in captain on the day,
00:15:38as Callum McGregor misses out due to injury.
00:15:48And atmosphere finally poised here, Hattate just giving some information to Negrin,
00:15:54how big a game is this for real, Hattate, Simon?
00:15:56I think he's key, I really do, I think him and Maeda, you know,
00:16:01you can maybe look to their form in recent time, but they've been over the course in this game in
00:16:05particular,
00:16:06and performed so well in the past, I look to them today for their inspiration.
00:16:11I think if he plays well, Celtic will tick.
00:16:14You've got Negrin there who pops up with a goal game after game, could be important as well,
00:16:19but I feel Hattate, if he's on his game, could be the key factor in it.
00:16:23Well, Celtic ready to take kick-off, Don Robertson, the referee, the man in the middle,
00:16:28with all the big decisions to be made.
00:16:34Andrew Dallas on VAR.
00:16:37Well, Benjamin Negrin stands over the ball as we get ready to get this under way,
00:16:42the latest chapter in the Glasgow Derby.
00:16:45And Negrin kicks off, Celtic shooting from left to right towards the Copland Road stand,
00:16:49and their traditional green and white hoops.
00:16:52Here's Rio Hattate.
00:16:56Touch for Sunasau, he's played four games in a row in goals now,
00:17:01he has played in all the cup games so far.
00:17:05And a big game as well for Benjamin Arthur, only second start since joining the club in January,
00:17:11on loan from Brentford, and here he is.
00:17:15Alraho.
00:17:19A strong challenge.
00:17:22The Celtic have the throw, Fernandes it was, coming out of central defence.
00:17:29So as I said, Celtic, they have conceded early at Ibrox in nine previous occasions,
00:17:36they've went on to only win two of those games, so it's very important that they can try and just
00:17:44keep
00:17:45this Ibrox crowd quiet for now.
00:17:47But you can hear the Celtic fans, a very loud backing, and here's Tenekty now,
00:17:52the Celtic look for a positive start in the Glasgow Derby.
00:17:57And Hattate is just caught out there by Skowalsund, Nadane.
00:18:04Arthur.
00:18:07For trusty, back in the starting 11th, hasn't played since the win away to Stuttgart.
00:18:13And Skowals in his more natural position as a youngster, played left back,
00:18:19but of course he's been converted into a central defender.
00:18:23Here's Yang, Negrin, Araho.
00:18:27It's well cut out, and it's a strong challenge from Diomandi, there's the first flash point.
00:18:33Actually the first yellow card as well.
00:18:35And it is the first yellow card, Mohamed Diomandi goes into the book.
00:18:41One minute gone, we'll see this one again, Simon.
00:18:43Yeah, he just takes a turn there, he gets away from him.
00:18:47Araho reads it, he's late, and he's under pressure now, two minutes into the game, yellow card.
00:18:55And they came off the bench for Chukwani last week.
00:19:02And it was probably that decision by Danny Roel that made them go a bit more conservative in the game.
00:19:09That got Celtic more control.
00:19:12And they managed to get them back to a two-inch draw, a valuable point in the end.
00:19:20Sinasalo for trusty, Nadere closes down.
00:19:24Looks to go long, looks for Tenekti.
00:19:27Nasser Jigar has to be careful here, Tenekti, and Maeda's there as well.
00:19:32He's done well, has to be said, Maeda puts the challenge in, and concedes a free kick.
00:19:37It's not the worst ball, just turning the back four there.
00:19:40And Jigar actually does really well defensively here, he's under pressure from Tenekti.
00:19:44Can Maeda maybe read it a little bit better there, but it does well, the Rangers player.
00:19:48Well, Rangers go quick, here's Robbins.
00:19:52For Mikey Moore, the one-one man from Tottenham.
00:20:03There's Fernandes, for Robbins.
00:20:12Fernandes now looks to switch the ball over for the run of Skowvolsson.
00:20:16Scales reads it well, with a big task on his hand, with Skowvolsson.
00:20:22As Rangers come into the box with Nadere, out to Dujon Sterling, ball comes in,
00:20:26it's a dangerous ball, Robbins at the back post, and it goes all the way out,
00:20:30it's a goal kick for Celtic.
00:20:31Yeah, first little bit of threat from Rangers there, working it out on the right-hand side,
00:20:37crosses a little bit deep, and Robbins just can't help it back into the danger area.
00:20:45Celtic will need to be switched on, because you look at the back four,
00:20:48the young Arthur's come in, scales, he's got the captaincy today, he's been shuffled across,
00:20:53it's a new look back four.
00:20:55Oh my, they look to close down Fernandes.
00:20:59And here is Fernandes' runner.
00:21:03Butland wearing the captain's armband today, James Tavernier is on the bench for Rangers.
00:21:12Arthur loses out the header, and here's Cermite, through and goal, gets the shot,
00:21:17and it's in to the Celtic fans in the Brimlin Road stand, and it looks like he's taking a late
00:21:21nick there,
00:21:22he is down holding his foot.
00:21:25It's a strong play, I don't know if that's a foul, he's jumping out of the centre-back,
00:21:29but he wins the break of the ball, and just as he's got the strike, it's Luke McCown, it gets
00:21:34back.
00:21:36I'll just say it again here, not much in that, I don't know if he's injured himself.
00:21:43Yeah, I'm not sure if it happened, as he kicked his right foot on his left.
00:21:47Well, he did score a pretty wonderful overhead kick last week, it has to be said.
00:21:54He's got four goals in the derby, Cermite.
00:21:58So, a lot for Danny Roel to think about if he's carrying a bit of an injury.
00:22:07Sunasau takes a free kick, looks for the run of Maeda, Negrin looks to win the header on.
00:22:12It's a turn by Diomande.
00:22:15Mikey Moore, the pass is just not quite connecting in the first five minutes for Rangers.
00:22:20Diomande now down, holding his ankle.
00:22:25The Celtic are up to go direct here, I thought Negrin maybe in the second.
00:22:30Ball should have developed a bit better.
00:22:34Araujo goes back to Arthur.
00:22:37Sunasau wants to be quick here, he is.
00:22:39Negrin checks it down, Hittate takes a swing at it, play on for now, here's Luke McEwen.
00:22:45And he's bundled to the ground by Raskin, it was.
00:22:49Mikey Moore now driving at this Celtic defence, Cermite gets a shot.
00:22:52Shouts for a handball, the Rangers fans are pretty convinced.
00:22:57I'm sure this one will be checked, Simon.
00:22:59Yeah, I think it will.
00:23:01It's just that McEwen takes too much time on the ball,
00:23:04doesn't make his decision to make the pass and he gets caught on it,
00:23:07and suddenly Mikey Moore is in here, and this is where he is really dangerous,
00:23:13into the box.
00:23:15And he needs to look at it again.
00:23:24Well, I think it hits his arm but I think it's in his...
00:23:26I think Don Robertson is shaking the head, he's same play on,
00:23:30so no penalty given, thankfully for Celtic.
00:23:33This comes from Luke McEwen, just being a wee bit indecisive in the middle of the park.
00:23:37You always just worry with those handballs,
00:23:39you see the one in midweek for Celtic were denied against Aberdeen,
00:23:43in some cases they would have been given.
00:23:44Roman's now clips the ball in, Sinasao has to be decisive,
00:23:47he is, collects the ball with confidence.
00:23:51You'll see this claim for a handball again.
00:23:55Roman's in it, his body does hit his arm but he's got it tucked in.
00:24:01As you say, half the time you don't know the day.
00:24:08You always just take a breath when those incidents happen.
00:24:13Sinasao looks like he just calmed things down.
00:24:16Yang loses out the header, Negrin is pressured by Nadiri,
00:24:19Don Robertson doesn't see the foul on that,
00:24:21Nadiri cuts the ball through.
00:24:24Krusty goes down under the challenge from Cermiti.
00:24:31And he's not happy, Krusty.
00:24:35The big Portuguese striker, he's embroiled in it.
00:24:39Yeah, I'm not too sure what happens here, he's never getting to the ball.
00:24:44He's always going through to the keeper.
00:24:48Well, Krusty does seem to go down under the challenge,
00:24:53claiming there's a little nick there from Cermiti,
00:24:55but he's back on his feet, the American.
00:24:58Of course, he will miss the game next week against Motherwell at Celtic Park.
00:25:03As he sees out his final game of his suspension.
00:25:09But, as usual, quite a quiet start in these games, Simon.
00:25:13Yeah, but it's been a bit scrappy.
00:25:17Here's Moor, and Diomandi goes down again.
00:25:20It's McEwen this time that's penalised.
00:25:24Rangers fans and the players looking for a yellow card.
00:25:28I think that'll be more due to the fact that Diomandi's
00:25:30won't do it into the book so early.
00:25:32He'll be looking to get it evened up.
00:25:36Here's Nasser Duggar.
00:25:40Scales wins the header.
00:25:42Tonekde just can't control it, and it goes out for a Rangers throw.
00:25:50Stirling, the Rangers still look for that quick start.
00:25:53McEwen clips it on.
00:25:55Stirling will clear up for Duggar on the one from Wolves.
00:26:00And he goes back to the Rangers captain, Jack Butland.
00:26:06Rangers probably just shading the possession at the minute.
00:26:11And Maida looks to close down, Butland.
00:26:15But the Englishman gets it away.
00:26:18Here's Raskin, cuts it forward.
00:26:21Araujo defends well, Arthur hooks it up.
00:26:27Duggar brings it down as Negrin looks to put the press on, Fernandes.
00:26:33It's going to make him uncomfortable, the Englishman.
00:26:37And he does well, Araujo involved there.
00:26:40And it is pulled back for a free kick.
00:26:44You can tell the Rangers fans, Simon,
00:26:46that they are just wanting a Celtic player in the book,
00:26:48given that Diomandi's been booked.
00:26:49Obviously after Diomandi, yeah, getting booked through the doors.
00:26:52The big circle back there actually does well here.
00:26:54Nice feet, trying to get himself out of the situation.
00:26:56It's a free kick, no more, no less.
00:26:58I think Araujo just pulls out of it in the end, but...
00:27:02Free kick taken quickly, Fernandes looks to clip it on for Moor,
00:27:07who is the Rangers' danger man.
00:27:09Only they've got a goal in the derby.
00:27:11Looks to try and keep it in.
00:27:13McEwen does well to clear up.
00:27:15Araujo clips it on.
00:27:17Yang, he passes only as far as Raskin.
00:27:19He's got time to cut the ball in, looks for Chermite.
00:27:21Goes all the way through.
00:27:23And it's a goal kick to Celtic.
00:27:25Ten minutes gone at Ibrox in the quarterfinal of the Scottish Cup.
00:27:28Rangers 0, Celtic 0.
00:27:29Rangers just gaining a little bit of territory.
00:27:31It really comes down to a little bit of sloppy play there.
00:27:34I think it was Yang that time, just helped it on first time.
00:27:37Had to keep the ball a bit better.
00:27:42For Sunasaro, for Trusty, inside his own box.
00:27:46McEwen makes the pass, makes himself available.
00:27:49Without Kyle McGregor today, Celtic are going to have to be crucial in midfield.
00:27:53But Rangers have the ball.
00:27:54Stirling looks to cross into the box.
00:27:56Chermite will have to do well to keep this one in.
00:27:59And he does.
00:28:04Moor has got Negrin with him.
00:28:08Maeda looks to press Fernandes.
00:28:10Raskin now in the middle of the pitch with time on the ball.
00:28:17Plays it through for Stirling on the far side.
00:28:20Raskin now in the midfield for Skowvolsson.
00:28:22Two men round and back to Stirling.
00:28:28Chiga.
00:28:30Celtic look to put the press on here, back into their shape quickly.
00:28:35Raskin.
00:28:40Skowvolsson, Stirling.
00:28:42Not a sustained battle of possession for Rangers.
00:28:47And they have to work back to their goalkeeper, so...
00:28:50Well, that could have ended up, Celtic have done well to push them back to their goalkeeper.
00:28:56Butchland cuts long, looks for Romans as it is.
00:29:00A high jump over Araujo.
00:29:03And he's taking a sore one there, the Belgian.
00:29:07Yeah, just Clowns high here.
00:29:09He's right over the top of Araujo.
00:29:12Those ones can be sore.
00:29:22Oh, Celtic, goal of the throw, looks for Maida quick.
00:29:25Can they keep it in play, Dyson Maida?
00:29:27Want to get round, Juga.
00:29:29The big defender does well.
00:29:32Romans picks up the ball.
00:29:34Mikey Moore, want to link up with Nadiri, but it's good defending from Benjamin Arthur.
00:29:38Gets back to Sunasalo.
00:29:43And Arthur just loses possession now to Moore.
00:29:49Skowvolsson with Stirling.
00:29:52Makes the link up, here's Skowvolsson again.
00:29:55Gets the ball to right-footed, looking for Nadiri, it's headed away by Trusty.
00:29:58Tenechtes passes short, only goes as far as Raskin.
00:30:01Here's Fernandes now.
00:30:05Celtic just have to be careful.
00:30:09Raskin.
00:30:11For Juga.
00:30:16Skowvolsson on the far side, goes back to Dujon-Stirling.
00:30:21Celtic sticking to their shape.
00:30:28Fernandes, Yang puts the heat on, but Skowvolsson's got a bit of space now on the far side.
00:30:33Nobody on him, comes into the box, puts it in.
00:30:35Looks for Moore, but it's headed behind into the Celtic fans by Rio Hattate, Rangers corner.
00:30:40Yeah, a little bit of pressure now getting applied from Rangers, but a little bit self-inflicted from Celtic.
00:30:46Giving away careless possession time and time again, it's just inviting more attacks from Rangers.
00:30:52Well, this will be an area of attack for Rangers.
00:30:55Fernandes got five of his six Rangers goals from set-pieces, but they go short.
00:31:00Here's Skowvolsson, cuts it in, and Negrin gets it out.
00:31:09Nadiri, as Arajo puts the pressure on, strong challenge from the Mexican, and it goes for a goal kick.
00:31:16Good defending from Julien Arajo.
00:31:17Yeah, just uses his body, needs the situation well.
00:31:23Looking for a wee bit more from Celtic, trying to get up the pitch.
00:31:28Well, this is the thing that they've done so well in the second half, Simon,
00:31:31is they got their midfielders on the wall last Sunday.
00:31:34Doesn't seem to be the case so far, but it has a more calmer start to the game than last
00:31:41week
00:31:42in terms of keeping the scoreline down at 0-0.
00:31:47It's on the shallow.
00:31:50The Celtic look to play out from the back, they'll have to be careful here.
00:31:53Trusty now, clips it forward.
00:31:56Looks for Maeda, heads on well, Benjamin Negrin.
00:31:59The Celtic going to get through, he's taken down, surely Don Robertson
00:32:02doesn't see a foul in it at all, it goes all the way through to Butland,
00:32:06it's played on, but that would look like a foul all day long.
00:32:10The referee doesn't think so, one thing with Negrin is he's not blister and paced
00:32:14to get away from anybody there.
00:32:16It was a nice little flick in from Maeda, you'd probably look for
00:32:19the likes of Negrin flicking into Maeda in the reverse of that situation.
00:32:24The header was well won by Maeda, but no foul given,
00:32:29and Rangers have the throw just in front of the Angrox dugouts.
00:32:36Fernandes.
00:32:42to Giga.
00:32:47And it's cut out, Celtic now have the chance to get their foot on the ball here.
00:32:50Well put together, Trusty now will go back to his goalkeeper.
00:32:58Trusty, back to Sanesalo.
00:33:02For Benjamin Arthur as Nadiri puts the squeeze on Araujo.
00:33:07He's got Mikey Moore with him, has to go up the line and that breaks down once again for Celtic.
00:33:13And we'll just give time for the Rangers defence to rebuild from the back.
00:33:18Yeah, 15-16 minutes into Giga, we're struggling to any sort of build-up play.
00:33:24Yeah, this is uncomfortable for Butland, but he clears it.
00:33:29Has to be pressed quickly, Jack Butland, he's only got a 69% pass completion rate in the Scottish Premiership.
00:33:34Especially when that guy's chasing you down, he'll not dwell on the ball.
00:33:38He'll know all about Dyson Maeda, well here he is, now it's cut out by Fernandes.
00:33:44Mikey Moore loses the ball, here's Negrin in the Rangers' final third.
00:33:49Hitate, looks to drive at this Rangers defence, looks to get the shot under way,
00:33:54but it's cut out, maybe not the best option for real Hitate.
00:33:58Maeda and Yang tracking back, and Moore gets the foul, the free kick.
00:34:04Yang can't believe it, but it looks like a push into the back of Mikey Moore.
00:34:09It's a free kick, for a second there it opened up for Dottie,
00:34:12but he just couldn't create enough space to get the shot away,
00:34:17Rangers were on the counter.
00:34:25Fernandes goes over the half way and looks to go long,
00:34:28that should be something to the Sal, eats all up, he goes quick to Rahul.
00:34:36He looks to find Negrin, but he just goes all the way through to Butland,
00:34:39both sides just seem to not be connecting on it at the minute, Simon.
00:34:43From a Celtic perspective, that needs to be better for Marahul there,
00:34:46he's in possession, the pass needs to be better.
00:34:50Just immediately giving possession back to the opposition.
00:34:53Butland passes out to Dugat.
00:34:59Can't see if he can get this ball, scales now,
00:35:02Hatate looks to thread it through for Tenecte, but it's broken down again,
00:35:06it just seems like the final pass in that instance is breaking down.
00:35:11Wormans on the half way line in front of the dugout.
00:35:17Raskin.
00:35:21For Dugat.
00:35:25Cermite closed down by Tenecte, Celtic back in possession for now,
00:35:28Scales has to be careful here, the heat goes on him,
00:35:32and he wins the free kick from Scov Olsen.
00:35:35He actually does well in the end, a little bit risky.
00:35:40There's a free kick.
00:35:41Well, captaining Celtic at Ibrox is a great moment for Liam Scales,
00:35:46he's yet to score in the derby.
00:35:49Plenty of time to make that right, now Rahul gets it over the half way line,
00:35:53he's looking for Maeda, he pressures Giga up,
00:35:56but this won't be comfortable for Butland.
00:35:59And he clears it up the pitch.
00:36:02Arthur wins, well, here's Nadiri, he's through and goal,
00:36:05Arthur's got to make the recovery.
00:36:08It's just that it was, here's Arthur now.
00:36:11Celtic do well in the end there, as Yang wants to heal it on,
00:36:15but Rangers will come back with the ball through Raskin.
00:36:18Dangerous situation there, the long ball shouldn't happen right through the middle of the defence.
00:36:22Thoughts of Celtic and Nadiri couldn't take it in his stride.
00:36:26Moor facing up, Yang.
00:36:29He goes round Yang, gets the ball into the box,
00:36:33Trusty's got to be careful, heads it out.
00:36:37Those Rangers look to draw first blood in the derby.
00:36:44Moor looks to find the run of Rollins,
00:36:47and he's won it back to the Belgian from Arthur, moves it on,
00:36:51a chance here for Rangers,
00:36:52Trusty gets it away, only as far as Moor.
00:36:57Maeda now,
00:36:59the Celtic are just going to have to suffer here for a bit.
00:37:03Yeah, the youngster got it all wrong,
00:37:05completely on the byline.
00:37:08Deal mandate, a few of the Celtic players just losing their footing on this Ibrox surface.
00:37:14against Romans.
00:37:20For Raskin.
00:37:26Scored a goal against Celtic at Celtic Park last season,
00:37:31Nicholas Raskin.
00:37:33I've seen a lot of the ball this afternoon,
00:37:35that one just flashes across Maeda to find Fernandes.
00:37:41Skolvogson, Nadiri linking up with the den on the far side.
00:37:47Sterling looks to get round, scales,
00:37:49and the Irishman, the captain, goes into Don Robertson's book,
00:37:54and it's a free kick in a dangerous position,
00:37:56Celtic will have to defend.
00:37:58Yeah, I don't think he's got any argument,
00:38:00Sterling shows a good turn of pace,
00:38:02and he's taking them out there, scales.
00:38:05As you say, a dangerous situation for the Rangers free kick.
00:38:10I know Rangers are strong on set pieces,
00:38:13so Celtic will have to be very careful here,
00:38:16as Mikey Moore waits on the ball to come to him,
00:38:19so the free kick can be taken.
00:38:2121 minutes gone, Rangers 0, Celtic 0.
00:38:33A difficult moment for Celtic ahead here.
00:38:36Moore will just look for good delivery,
00:38:39he's got Diomandi on the edge of the area,
00:38:41Skolvogson further down the box.
00:38:45Once they get the ball in,
00:38:48Comandes attacking the ball,
00:38:50but it goes all the way through,
00:38:51Robins will try and keep this one in,
00:38:52it goes all the way,
00:38:54and it's a Celtic throw,
00:38:55so Celtic survive that incident for now.
00:38:58Yeah, just too deep across as we see Arthur all along there,
00:39:03getting caught in possession inside his own box.
00:39:06And I think it's really been a story of the first 20-odd minutes,
00:39:09for great mistakes, self-inflicting,
00:39:13it's just given Rangers that little bit of encouragement,
00:39:15as we see Nadiri couldn't take that one in his path,
00:39:18he managed to get back to recover it.
00:39:20I suppose the good thing about Benjamin Arthur is he's got two
00:39:24very experienced guys to the left of him and an experienced guy to his right,
00:39:27so they'll hopefully be coaching him through the game.
00:39:29Yeah, I hope so, it's just an individual error,
00:39:31he gets it wrong, he's caught the ball,
00:39:33but you cannot be taking risks inside your box.
00:39:37Robins throws it in, Negrin puts the tackle in,
00:39:40can Maeda take this one in, Negrin,
00:39:42there's a chance for Celtic to break here,
00:39:44can he get the ball out to Tenecte?
00:39:45He does, Tenecte's got Stirlman faced up,
00:39:49checks back the Tunisian,
00:39:52and Hattate for scales now.
00:39:55A chance for Celtic to just get their foot on the ball a little bit here.
00:40:01And Rahul, for Yang.
00:40:06Arthur on the centre circle for Celtic,
00:40:10of trusty, McEwen makes the option,
00:40:13it's a good pass into the middle of the pitch,
00:40:15for Tenecte now, Hattate done well,
00:40:18two men round him just as he did on Wednesday night.
00:40:21McEwen makes himself available, but he touches heavy,
00:40:24he's back in there, winning the ball,
00:40:26but Rangers come away with it,
00:40:28Cermite puts the pressure on by Arthur,
00:40:30and Rangers will now have the chance to counter-attack on Celtic.
00:40:34Moor facing up against Araujo.
00:40:37Mikey Moor.
00:40:42Still the Englishman, on loan from Tottenham.
00:40:46Finds Raskin in the middle.
00:40:51Diomande booked early in the game.
00:40:56Romans.
00:40:59For Raskin.
00:41:08Fernandes wants to go back to Juga,
00:41:11as Tenecte puts the squeeze on.
00:41:14And a good pass out wide by Moor, under pressure.
00:41:18Scales stands up, of course he's on a yellow card as well.
00:41:21Skorvalksson's got Hattate ahead of him,
00:41:23as Rangers push forward.
00:41:26And that is a corner kick for Rangers,
00:41:29Hattate thought that was a goal kick.
00:41:31Yeah, he just concedes the corner there,
00:41:33but Celtic attack there, it was a great pass from McKeown,
00:41:37a penetrating pass into Hattate,
00:41:40then he's touched with him down at the edge of the box.
00:41:46Well, another set piece for Celtic to defend,
00:41:51and it's Andreas Skorvalksson over the ball,
00:41:53the ball comes in,
00:41:55and it's hidden away by Scales.
00:41:57Strong defending from the Irishman,
00:41:58Moor will bring it down.
00:42:02No, his pass is cut out, Moor, Hattate's got to
00:42:04get it out under his feet, he does.
00:42:06Negrin, skips past Moor, and that's a free kick.
00:42:10And you'd like to think that's worth a yellow card.
00:42:13I don't think so, in that situation.
00:42:16I don't think it's going to come.
00:42:21The counter attack is on.
00:42:24Let it go.
00:42:26Well, escapes a booking for now, Mikey Moor.
00:42:33And a strong first half last week, Mikey Moor.
00:42:40Here's Trusty, and as Rangers push Celtic back to their goalkeeper.
00:42:44So the shallow, clears it over.
00:42:48Look for Araujo, and it doesn't stay in play.
00:42:52Celtic just can't quite get their foot on the ball.
00:42:54It's a bit similar to the first half last week without conceding the goals.
00:42:59Yeah, we're not really gaining any sort of territory so far.
00:43:06It's got to be strong here from Diomande, of course he's on a booking.
00:43:11Scales marauds forward.
00:43:15Finds Tenekte, can't Celtic fashion our chance.
00:43:20Seems to be a player down in blue that Celtic will play on.
00:43:26Tenekte, he's got Scales with him, but he needs an option in the middle of the park.
00:43:30McEwen, for Hitate.
00:43:34Celtic continue to play on.
00:43:37Scales, can he get a ball into the box?
00:43:39Crosses it in, looks for Maeda!
00:43:42And I think that's gone for a Celtic corner.
00:43:45It's a little bit better, you keep the ball, show a little bit of patience,
00:43:49work it to the left-hand side, it's a great ball in actually,
00:43:51because it's a real tester for the defence, into the box.
00:43:56A little bit more positive from Celtic.
00:43:58Well, first corner of the game, McEwen took the corner on Wednesday night.
00:44:03Caught Celtic, the goal against Aberdeen, Kieran Tierney got on the score sheet,
00:44:08so McEwen with the out-slinger.
00:44:11In front of those Rangers fans, look to deliver something similar.
00:44:16Neygren in there as well, trusty.
00:44:23McEwen, ball comes in, looks for Scales, it's the same move,
00:44:26Fernandes has to head it away, and it's another corner kick for Celtic.
00:44:31Scales come to the front post there, this is the initial front man there.
00:44:38A little bit of delivery here.
00:44:40No, it's McEwen again, take two.
00:44:47Look, McEwen, ball comes in, it's headed on, it's going to fall to Yang,
00:44:53on the edge of the box, looks to go outside to meet it.
00:44:56The striker looks to get the ball back, but Yang nips that away from him.
00:45:02Claims for a foul, not given, Rangers are on the counter-attack now with Cermetic.
00:45:09Looks to switch it over, that's well cut out by Tenekte.
00:45:13Can Celtic sting Rangers here?
00:45:16Here's Tenekte, up again, Sterling and Raskin, does well, finds Hitate.
00:45:23Celtic just calm it down.
00:45:34Can Celtic get a foot in this game?
00:45:39Trusty for Hitate.
00:45:43A little bit of possession for Celtic, all in front of Rangers at the minute though.
00:45:48As we tick towards, 30 minutes gone at Aingbrox, here's Tenekte.
00:45:54It's very congested around him, looks to go quick, Tenekte.
00:45:58The 1-2 if Hitate just breaks down.
00:46:01And that's a good challenge from Hitate, concedes the throw.
00:46:05There recovers the situation, a little flick didn't come off with Tenekte there,
00:46:08but it's a wee bit more positive, we've got ourselves up the park,
00:46:11round about the Rangers' goal.
00:46:13It's a wee bit more off Yang in this right-hand side, hasn't seen a lot of play.
00:46:19Will Rangers be frustrated that they haven't converted their strong passages of play into goals?
00:46:24They've not really had much of a chance, neither team have really.
00:46:26They've had a lot of territorial advantage, but haven't done much with it.
00:46:31Well, it's a KJ Cup tie, of course, extra time and penalties should they be required today.
00:46:37The days of the replay, Simon, they're all gone.
00:46:39Yeah, don't talk about penalties when they're laughing.
00:46:42No, it's not.
00:46:43Butlin now on the ball.
00:46:46Clears with his left foot, Celtic win this, and it goes out for a throw,
00:46:50Araujo goes down onto the challenge, he's just having a little,
00:46:53a little word with Romans, we know Araujo got involved last week.
00:47:01He tells him where the concession stand is.
00:47:05Yeah, it's a free kick, he just jumps in them, don't get involved.
00:47:13Should have been a free kick.
00:47:15Well, Celtic do have the throw, 30 minutes gone.
00:47:19Celtic have, well, the first half hour at Eibrox.
00:47:24Got a long way to go on this one, Yang heads it on.
00:47:30Butlin is Maida, looks to pressure the goalkeeper.
00:47:34Surely Jack Butlin must know what dies of Maida, how much time does he need to take?
00:47:43He'll be on top of you before you know it, he's done it before, as you say,
00:47:47if you'd think about them, you'd know by now, but he's taken on a touch.
00:47:51He scored a very early goal at Eibrox, Dyson made,
00:47:55back in a 3-3 draw, just by pressing James Tavenier.
00:48:01That didn't half settle things down.
00:48:05Araujo hooks it up.
00:48:08And the Celtic side asks Rangers a few questions in this half.
00:48:13Well, Don Robertson calls it back for a late foul on Diomande.
00:48:19Yeah, that one, Araujo, I think the balls like that up high round about me,
00:48:24he's not going to win much in the air there, it needs to be down the sides of the second
00:48:27backs
00:48:28and get them running, and make it a foot race with him, that's what he's good at.
00:48:32Taste the burn.
00:48:35A high one straight, not so effective for him.
00:48:40Moore.
00:48:42Goes back to central defenders Raskin, now dropping deep almost as the quarterback,
00:48:49and he pings a pass out, and that won't stay in, and that's good news for Celtic,
00:48:53those passes aren't connecting, that's frustrating the Rangers team,
00:48:57that's frustrating the Rangers fans.
00:49:00So Celtic need to keep on top of it.
00:49:03Skorv Olsen closes down, and it goes, I think, for another goal kick.
00:49:08I think Austin Trusty's just set the cam down and get us out of position
00:49:13before you take the goal kick.
00:49:17Yeah, Austin Trusty will need to use his experience here.
00:49:19You think back at those away performances at Stuttgart, Bologna where, especially in Bologna,
00:49:25he was colossal that evening.
00:49:27It was excellent, I think at that time he was just,
00:49:29his team mate,
00:49:31can slow down to the right of position.
00:49:34Sinasavo,
00:49:36clicks it forward,
00:49:37Roman's got a free header in the middle of the pitch,
00:49:39and Atate now heads it on,
00:49:41Negrin will put the pressure on Diomande as he drives forward the Ivorian,
00:49:45goes down,
00:49:46quite theatrical I must admit,
00:49:49Tenekti looks for Maeda,
00:49:51Fernandes has to be careful, as does Duggar.
00:49:55McEwen,
00:49:57good from Celtic,
00:49:58Araujo makes an option,
00:50:00can Celtic get forward now,
00:50:01and fashion their first opportunity?
00:50:03Julien Araujo,
00:50:08and that should be a corner kick for Celtic.
00:50:10Again, better play,
00:50:12does he push Araujo too far right with the initial pass,
00:50:16but then Araujo finds him in the box,
00:50:18possibly.
00:50:21He's got awareness in the vision here,
00:50:23it's a good ball,
00:50:24once you're in the box,
00:50:25very difficult for a defender to touch it.
00:50:29Well, it's a corner kick,
00:50:31it'll be the in-swinger of Luke McEwen,
00:50:33he's meant to look for a better delivery than his first two attempts,
00:50:36a chance now to cut off his foot round the ball,
00:50:39can Celtic get the first goal in the derby,
00:50:42McEwen gets a good ball in,
00:50:45and it's headed away,
00:50:46it should come back to Luke McEwen,
00:50:48and it does,
00:50:49gets another bite at it,
00:50:50heads it on,
00:50:51and it's a goal!
00:50:53It's Duggar Maeda!
00:50:57What a way to silence Ibrox,
00:51:00and what a way to send your away end,
00:51:02Interactions!
00:51:03Celtic have the lead in the Glasgow derby,
00:51:07it's Duggar Maeda!
00:51:09And it's a great ball out from Luke McEwen,
00:51:11he gets a second bite at it from the corner,
00:51:14there's a little flick on,
00:51:15I think it might be Scales,
00:51:18just helps it move on,
00:51:20and it's Duggar Maeda at the back post,
00:51:22the caller comes in here,
00:51:27he's back out of Luke McEwen,
00:51:29he's back out of Luke McEwen,
00:51:32he scales his foot,
00:51:34it's him, it gets the flick on,
00:51:37it's very tight,
00:51:37it will all be looked at,
00:51:40it's a great little flick,
00:51:42and he's there to pounce,
00:51:44what a header it is as well,
00:51:46let's hope it stands,
00:51:47but we will see,
00:51:48yeah he's just working his way back out from the corner,
00:51:50and it's trailing live,
00:51:53it's a great flick,
00:51:57good ball in,
00:51:58great pace on it,
00:52:00that's a lovely flick,
00:52:01and Dyson's alive.
00:52:05Well the anxious weight around Ibrox will continue,
00:52:09but should they stand,
00:52:12it's a ninth goal of the season for that man,
00:52:15and they are checking the goal.
00:52:22And this will take time,
00:52:23as we've seen on Wednesday night,
00:52:24with Benjamin Negrin's goal,
00:52:26it depends really on the angle,
00:52:30and the way they draw the lines as well,
00:52:32it does take time,
00:52:34unfortunately,
00:52:35but we'll just have to wait and see.
00:52:38I'm not going to go there with the lines,
00:52:40Dillon, but it's very tight.
00:52:42I think it's more so William Scales, isn't it?
00:52:45Yeah, yeah, I think Maeda's onside.
00:52:48Don Robertson.
00:52:49Scales gets the flick,
00:52:50he's working his way out from the corner.
00:52:52Don Robertson in conversation,
00:52:53he's waiting for this to come through,
00:52:56we'll get the decision,
00:52:57and as you can hear,
00:52:59it is offside,
00:53:01and the goal doesn't stand,
00:53:03but a sign of encouragement for Celtic,
00:53:07they've got the ball in the net,
00:53:08they are vulnerable,
00:53:09so let's get at them.
00:53:11Yeah, it's just as you can see there,
00:53:13it's his left leg,
00:53:14as he's coming back out,
00:53:15because it's certainly not Maeda.
00:53:21It gives us a little bit of encouragement,
00:53:24we've got up round about the Rangers goal,
00:53:25a little bit more to our play,
00:53:27hopefully it gives us that little boost to go and
00:53:29try and take the game to the Rangers.
00:53:31Well, that might just boost the Rangers crowd for now,
00:53:34but Celtic would have been the first attempt on goal,
00:53:39they had it in the net,
00:53:40so there's an opportunity there,
00:53:43and especially given what happened last week,
00:53:46they know they can get at this Rangers team,
00:53:48and they just have to keep the faith and keep going.
00:53:55Arthur gets a foot in,
00:53:57and it's still 0-0 here at Ibrox,
00:54:00Celtic just have to weather this reaction that will be coming,
00:54:05and Rangers have the corner kick,
00:54:07as Dujon Sterling looks to get a reaction from the home support.
00:54:11Yeah, it's good pressure from Sterling,
00:54:13just forces the error from Scales and wins the corner for the Rangers.
00:54:18Celtic will have to be very careful here,
00:54:24Skob Olsson over to take the corner,
00:54:26kick, goes short.
00:54:30Olsson looks to get it on the right foot,
00:54:32puts it in, it's headed on by Higa, it was.
00:54:36But that's comfortable for Celtic,
00:54:39over the bar, 37 minutes gone at Ibrox,
00:54:42Celtic had the ball in the net, doesn't stand, it's 0-0.
00:54:45Yeah, I think that goes off his shoulder as well,
00:54:46I don't think he gets that right at all.
00:54:49Have to go one there for the keeper to sail over the bar.
00:55:04Oh, and a lot for Danny Roel to think about.
00:55:07And this first half went, he said if Rangers could be at it for the 90 minutes
00:55:13that they were for the 50 minutes that they were last week,
00:55:16then the 7,500 Celtic fans would be quiet.
00:55:20I know Yang heads it on, can't be able to get there,
00:55:22Dyson made it through, but Coughlin clip off his line,
00:55:25he collects the ball.
00:55:28And denies the Japanese striker,
00:55:31he's got five goals in the fixture,
00:55:33he was denied his sixth.
00:55:36Yeah, just...
00:55:37coming up to be on the knock-on from Yang there.
00:55:43Raskin looks for Romans,
00:55:47Araujo just has to be careful, shepherds the ball out,
00:55:50just gives him a little look,
00:55:51you can see there's a little bit of a spark between the two of them.
00:55:55Yeah, well, it's a Glasgow Dabby, isn't it?
00:55:59A little bit of needle.
00:56:09Arthur.
00:56:13Trusty, can Celtic finish the half strong?
00:56:18Clips it over, looks for Yang, heads it back in,
00:56:20Nibirn's got that space, can he control the ball?
00:56:22He does, and he looks to go quick to Maeda,
00:56:25but it gets it all wrong, and it's through to Butland.
00:56:29Yeah, a little bit disappointing,
00:56:30it's an encouraging position, he's in,
00:56:32Hekates to his left.
00:56:34I think Maeda makes an initial move and then stops.
00:56:38Just hold on to it for a split second more to the...
00:56:42move develops.
00:56:45Butland takes his time.
00:56:47Butland comes back in play, looks to go long,
00:56:49it's Nataktika Rangers look to try and hit their two strikers,
00:56:52Negrin goes down under the challenge,
00:56:54Yang in there as well, shoots for a foul there but goes for a throw.
00:56:58There is a foul, initially he stays on his feet, but he's pulled.
00:57:05I think those three kips can be so critical,
00:57:08and we just get confirmation of that,
00:57:10as you can see, Scales in the offside position.
00:57:16Which is such a shame, but we move on.
00:57:25Trusty, back to his goalkeeper, Son Nassau,
00:57:28he's got Chermite and Nadiri round them.
00:57:31Trusty, goes out to Scales.
00:57:35Taneckte does have her so well to keep that in,
00:57:37but McEwen's head up, falls short of Maeda.
00:57:40Can Yang get the foot in here?
00:57:41Araujo now picks it up, driving forward, looks for Maeda.
00:57:46Celtic pick the ball up again, McEwen for Araujo.
00:57:51Araujo looks for the cross, the Italy cross,
00:57:53and it goes for a Celtic throw.
00:57:57Again, good situations, just getting that important pass.
00:58:03Not quite right.
00:58:06I think the signs are encouraging for Celtic for sure, Simon.
00:58:10Yeah, the half develops, they've moved up the tarp,
00:58:12they're looking a wee bit more threatened.
00:58:16Oh, Araujo looks for Yang on the throw.
00:58:22Arthur now,
00:58:24range trusty in the centre of the pitch.
00:58:32McEwen, for Hattate.
00:58:3941 minutes on the court, still 0-0.
00:58:42Hattate.
00:58:46Taneckte.
00:58:49It's closed down, it's nicked away from him,
00:58:51he loses his foot in, Rangers have the chance to sting Celtic on the counter-attack.
00:58:55Like Stirling looks for,
00:58:57should meet it, he gets a contact on it, goes over the bar.
00:59:01Dangerous opportunity for Rangers, but they are denied, it's still 0-0.
00:59:05Yeah, it comes with safe possession,
00:59:07I think he just drills on it a little bit,
00:59:08Stirling does well to make it off him.
00:59:11Again, a lot of the attacking from Rangers is from Celtic losing possession,
00:59:17a little bit careless.
00:59:19Just gets a flick on that, thankfully, over the bar again.
00:59:23Well, Celtic can just keep a level of control in the game,
00:59:28then they won't be on top.
00:59:30Rangers are really just looking for opportunities to nick it off Celtic
00:59:35and hit them on the counter-attack as we close towards half-time.
00:59:43Negrin heads it on, Raskin hooks it back in there,
00:59:47looking for Cermite, Arthur heads it down,
00:59:49Naderi will pick up the ball, the German striker.
00:59:54Tries forward, he runs into Hitate.
01:00:01He's still down, the Japanese midfielder,
01:00:04but McEwen's going to stop the play.
01:00:07And it is halted as Rio Hitate looks to get a bit of treatment.
01:00:11Why does that not have a free kick, Simon?
01:00:13No, I'm not sure, I think just maybe playing advantage with us in possession.
01:00:17He'll win it back well.
01:00:21Bundles himself into him, I think he just takes a hit to the right thigh,
01:00:27possibly, or the back.
01:00:30Well, let's hope he's OK, Rio Hitate with Callum McGregor injured.
01:00:35I'm going to need him.
01:00:41Look at the absentees for Celtic, you know, the likes of Kasper Schmeichel,
01:00:45Cameron Carter-Vickers, Kieran Tierney, Jota, Alistair Johnson,
01:00:50and Callum McGregor, and Arna Engels as well.
01:00:52It's almost half-year team, basically.
01:00:54Yeah, it's incredible.
01:00:57You know, trust it.
01:00:59Almost in the corner flag area.
01:01:01Hooks it towards Maeda, climbing.
01:01:06Celtic can just try and get the ball down.
01:01:09Muir looks to head on from Nadiri, but doesn't control it.
01:01:12Scales will look to go on the outside of Skob Olsen,
01:01:14and he wins the throw in the Irishman.
01:01:25No, Celtic just trying to kill any momentum, Rangers looking to throw back at them.
01:01:33Scales throws it in, looking for Tenekte, heads it back in for Negrin, hooks it on.
01:01:39Skob Olsen goes down, I think Don Robertson's gave that as a free kick, and he has.
01:01:49And as we move into stoppage time in the first half, one minute added.
01:02:03Ibrox, Mikey Moore over the free kick, and it's deep in the half, so I'm going to take a long
01:02:13delivery here from the young Englishman.
01:02:17Ball comes in, he's clipped it, looking for a floated delivery.
01:02:21It's a chance for Nadiri, and Cermitu is in there as well.
01:02:24I think Sinasalo's got the save, but the flag was up on the far side, thankfully for Celtic.
01:02:32But anyway, it's a great save, I think there initially they're offside, but I think it's Nadiri at the back
01:02:38here, it's definitely offside.
01:02:41If he tries to play it to himself, bring it down, it's a fantastic save from Sinasalo, because he's unaware.
01:02:47And that's half-time at Ibrox, Celtic did have the ball in the back of the net to that man,
01:02:55Dyson Maeda,
01:02:56but Liam Scales, who headed it on in the build-up, was deemed offside, and it remains 0-0.
01:03:04That's probably been the biggest chance of the half, Simon Donnelly.
01:03:08I can't really think of anything else, really. Celtic probably have the better chance, albeit offside,
01:03:14but it's 0-0. They've certainly weathered that early storm, and in the second half they'll be attacking the Celtic
01:03:19end.
01:03:19Yeah, they have done, but, listen, Rangers haven't created much.
01:03:23They had a lot of possession in that first half of the first half there, but I think Celtic finished
01:03:27the stronger.
01:03:29And obviously the goal, just a split here offside.
01:03:33But yeah, positive stuff to take from the second half of the first period.
01:03:38Well, we'll take a breather. More action to come from Ibrox.
01:03:42Let's have a little watch of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
01:03:45He caught up with Matthew Campbell in the latest episode of the official Celtic FC podcast.
01:03:55Coming up on the official Celtic FC podcast, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain shares some incredible stories
01:04:02and memories from his fascinating career, and he speaks about how he is settling into life as a Celtic player.
01:04:09So far, I've loved every minute of it, and I'm really lucky and delighted that, you know,
01:04:13the manager gave me the opportunity to come here and join this group.
01:04:20Hello and welcome to the official Celtic FC podcast.
01:04:25I'm Matthew Campbell and I'm delighted to be joined today by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
01:04:30Alex, thanks very much for taking some time out of your day to come and chat to us.
01:04:33No problem. Thanks for having me.
01:04:34We'll chat a wee bit about, you know, the games and what's to come over the next couple of months
01:04:40for Celtic,
01:04:40but this is a wonderful opportunity to get a chance to chat to you about, you know, your career,
01:04:46which we could probably spend hours sitting here chatting, but we'll try and go through it as best we can.
01:04:52When I was reading about you, Alex, one of the things, looking at your life and career,
01:04:58one of the things that kind of stood out was the fact that, of course, your father was a professional
01:05:02football player.
01:05:04So how much of a bearing did his career have on your interest and love for the sport?
01:05:11Yeah, I think massive. I think that's where it all began for me.
01:05:15You know, it's like any lad, you know, you want to follow your dad's footsteps and you sort of
01:05:19look at what they do as you're growing up and you take an interest in that, especially as a boy.
01:05:26So for me, obviously, yeah, that was football.
01:05:30So then, yeah, I started from an early age with him and he'd take me out a lot down the
01:05:35park,
01:05:36set up the goals, you know, the plastic goals, put the nets on them, practice quick feet
01:05:42and the ladders and through the cones. And then I just took a big liking to the game, obviously.
01:05:48And I think he never really pushed me in that aspect of him wanting me to be a footballer or
01:05:55anything.
01:05:55It was just more the fact that he could see I was good and I loved it.
01:06:00So he put in I don't know how many hours taking me out and yeah, from an early age, from
01:06:06five,
01:06:06four or five, working on these things until I ended up at Southampton Academy at seven, eight-ish.
01:06:12Yeah, well, you know, you mentioned that sort of progression into the inclusion in Southampton's
01:06:19Academy. But it's interesting you say that because a few of the boys, even in here in the first team
01:06:25itself, have spoken to through the podcast this season, talking about those early years,
01:06:30have spoken about how their dads have, and they're grateful for it, but their dads pushed them. But it
01:06:36doesn't sound like your dad just sort of almost just nurtured and encouraged it.
01:06:40Yeah, I think that me and my brother, we're both, we're both footballers, but we're both different
01:06:46characters. So I think my dad saw quite early that how much I loved it, that I could be good
01:06:55and that
01:06:56he could then push me in a bit, bit firmer and in a direction because I could take it and
01:07:02I would respond well to it. So as much as he never forced me into it, when I was in
01:07:08it, we did it
01:07:08properly. And he, I think he could see from quite early, he would, you know, I can remember being as
01:07:15young as nine, 10, you know, him saying, do you want to be a footballer or not? If the answer
01:07:21is yes,
01:07:22we have to do it like this. And there's no two ways about it. And the answer was always yes
01:07:26for me.
01:07:27So then I just listened. So from that aspect, he would then push me. But the minute I sort of
01:07:32backed off, he said, do you not want to do it anymore? And I could have gone either way and
01:07:36not know. And he would be like, okay, no worries. But it was never that. So as much as he
01:07:41never forced
01:07:41me into it, because I've always said, this is what I want to do, because he'd been a footballer and
01:07:48maybe from the old school, hard work and doing more than others, that gives you the advantage
01:07:55and working on other obviously technical things as well, because he'd done it. I just took his word
01:08:00for gospel. Anything he said, I would do because to me, he knows, right? Yeah, of course. He gets it.
01:08:07He knows. He was the one that played for England. He was professional. So I've just listened to everything
01:08:12to a T as much as I could. And yeah, obviously, it's ultimately got me to where I've got to.
01:08:20And I think that early upbringing and him pushing me and not being easy on me sort of prepares you
01:08:25for what comes in football of setbacks and, you know, having to take criticism, all that stuff.
01:08:32I was kind of used to that from eight, nine. That was that was our sort of relationship.
01:08:36It was it wasn't telling me how good I was. It was deep down. I knew and my mum would
01:08:43say how well
01:08:44your dad said how well you did. He wouldn't necessarily always tell me. It was always what
01:08:47I could do better, what I could improve on and just a little simple well done. And that was enough
01:08:53for me to know I've done good today. That was a good day.
01:08:56And that can be really obviously beneficial, especially somebody, it's your dad, it's somebody
01:09:02you're looking up to. But you're mentioning that sort of grounding that he gives you at
01:09:06a young age, pushing you when needed and so on. How big a part then do you think that those
01:09:13early years played and the fact that, you know, you make your debut for Southampton at 16, just
01:09:20over 16 years of age, which is just pretty young. Would you say that those early years had prepared
01:09:25you for life as a professional almost or? Yeah, I think so. Because to be honest,
01:09:31especially when you're young, I think a lot of dealing, coming into a first team environment
01:09:36and everything that comes with that, as much as, yeah, it's about the football. And if you're good
01:09:40enough, more, more of it's about your mentality, I think, and how mature you are at that age to be
01:09:46able to cope with everything that comes with it. You know, having a bad game, but then being able to
01:09:52bounce back, taking criticism from lads that are double your age, you know, seasoned pros and
01:09:58know how to deal with that, respect it, ultimately. Respect people around you and, you know, people
01:10:05that have been in it and know more than you, how to listen and respect that to then, you know,
01:10:10learn
01:10:10from them, get them on the side. And then all of a sudden, the older boys will then start helping
01:10:15you
01:10:15more. And that's how I was brought up, you know, ultimate respect for my dad and he's done it,
01:10:21he knows it. And I still do that to this day, you know, even now, anyone that's been in an
01:10:28environment
01:10:28longer than me that knows it better than me, I'll always listen and, you know, try and respect what
01:10:34they're saying and learn. Even now coming here, you know, there's the certain lads and the coaching
01:10:40staff and manager that get it more than me, because I've only just come and I want to learn off
01:10:45them,
01:10:45them people, you know, the captain cow, boys that have been here for a long time, James,
01:10:50like listening to them boys, I still sort of take that approach, even at 32 now, to try and always,
01:10:57you know, understand my environment, get on with the people, because ultimately you need people to
01:11:01help you and you want to help them. And that's how you sort of progress. So I think having that
01:11:06sort of upbringing from a young age prepared me going into Southampton, into a dressing room.
01:11:13And obviously as well, the lads were really good with me. They really helped me. But I think
01:11:18that balance for young players can be hard, where you've got to be confident and, you know,
01:11:24show how good you are and want to stand up and prove, you know, you've got a bit of that,
01:11:29I wouldn't say arrogance, but you want to hold yourself in the right way. But also then on the
01:11:35flip side, you sort of come off the pitch and you really, I was making cups of tea every game,
01:11:40cleaning boots, you know, 30 games into League One, but I'm still cleaning boots every day. Like
01:11:46that, that was just the way I was brought up and to stay grounded, stay humble and quite quickly,
01:11:52people around you respect that as well. And they help you more and you need everyone,
01:11:56we all need that help, bit of luck as well to, to push on. So yeah, I think that my
01:12:02dad's upbringing
01:12:03still moulds me now and how I am and just that humility, that's how he is as a person.
01:12:09And I think that's what I just took from, from that.
01:12:12It's interesting, especially in the modern game to hear somebody speaking like that and in terms of,
01:12:18you know, how they conduct themselves as a young, a young player, even in a first team,
01:12:22a first team environment. When you look back on those, those, those early days at Southampton,
01:12:27the early days of your, your professional career, how important were those years in terms of shaping
01:12:33you then for, for what's, what's come since? Yeah, massive. So then I never had like a smooth,
01:12:40completely smooth journey through the academy, sort of from seven to, to 12. I was probably at the top
01:12:50of the, the trio, one of the, the better players. Then from 12 to 16, I was the last one
01:12:55to grow,
01:12:55last late developer. I was, I'm an August baby, so I was the youngest in the year. So as everyone
01:13:00sort of started maturing and shooting up, I then fell right to the bottom of the pile and struggled
01:13:05for those years. And then, yeah, I was probably the last one to get my scholar
01:13:11and nearly got released at sort of 15 and then finally grew and quite quickly I flipped into being
01:13:20in the first team and never sort of looked back from that point. But yeah, I think dealing with
01:13:27all of them moments, I think my dad was good for that also, just to have that sort of person
01:13:33that
01:13:33even when some coaches were saying I couldn't affect things, I'm maybe not good enough, like my dad would
01:13:38always say, you'll see, when you grow, you'll see, just wait, just wait. And that sort of kept me going.
01:13:44And then being able to get into the first team when I did finally mature a bit and fill out
01:13:48a bit and
01:13:50and start growing a few, you know, whispers on my face, I quite quickly, everything my dad's sort of
01:13:57said sort of started happening a bit more again. I started to gain my confidence back and becoming
01:14:03able to affect games physically and stuff. And then going into the first team, them boys were,
01:14:08they prepared me, you know, they weren't easy on me. They tested me every day, you know, as a character,
01:14:15dealing with banter, dealing with, you know, all your old school typical stuff, you know, cutting my clothes
01:14:20up, nicking my boots, like everything you could imagine I did. So by the time I came to Arsenal,
01:14:25that environment was a lot easier than, you know, probably a bit more of the old school English
01:14:32sort of dressing room and lads, you know, being quite heavy on banter and testing the younger boys.
01:14:38So when I came into that environment, it was more just a case of, oh my God, that's Robin Van
01:14:43Persie.
01:14:44And that's, you know, this player and that player. But in terms of the actual day to day, I was
01:14:50more
01:14:50than prepared already from, from every, everything that the lads at Southampton had done for me. And
01:14:55the first team boys there prepared me for, for that and sort of taken me that you can take that
01:15:00then
01:15:00into every dressing room.
