00:04:48You're no stranger to Hampden Park and you're no stranger of course this season to Hampden
00:04:51Park.
00:04:51You probably never thought that you'd be back here during this same campaign, but coming
00:04:55back here does it kind of bring memories back of those years gone by?
00:04:59Well, first of all you're right, I didn't think after the semi-final against Rangers
00:05:03in the League Cup that I'd ever see Hampden again as a manager and I suppose it does.
00:05:10It's not something that you start to think about for the duration of the game, but I
00:05:15suppose it is something that you might look back on.
00:05:18St Mern, of course, we played them last week, we beat them last week at Celtic Park, but
00:05:23they were a difficult test for us, I don't doubt about that.
00:05:27What do we need to do to be successful and reach a final against them?
00:05:29I think first of all that St Mern, they beat us in the League Cup final here a few months
00:05:35ago and so that they will come in here with plenty of confidence in that sense.
00:05:40They did well, particularly in the second half of the game against us, so we've got to just
00:05:44be a wee bit more, but we created chances.
00:05:49We haven't been able to take them both in that game and the Dundee the previous week,
00:05:52so that would be important for the chances that we get.
00:05:55We've got to try and have some sort of decent ratio, but overall just play with a lot of
00:06:01energy and a lot of determination and try and create those chances.
00:06:04A couple of changes to the starting line-up from the team that started last week, but one
00:06:09of those changes and angles in from the start.
00:06:13How positive and important is it to have a player of his quality back in action?
00:06:16That is really good.
00:06:17He's got plenty of running power, which is very, very important.
00:06:20Something that we kind of lack during his time through injury, but overall I wouldn't
00:06:26be putting too much expectation on him.
00:06:27You know, he came on last week, he did fine, he made a couple of decent interceptions during
00:06:33the course of the 15, 20, 20-odd minutes that he was on the field of play, that was good
00:06:38for us.
00:06:39Start for him here, whether he lost the game, I would very much doubt it, but at the end
00:06:44of it all, it's important for him to be back in the fold.
00:06:46Brilliant.
00:06:46Well, best of luck this afternoon, Martin.
00:06:47Thank you very much.
00:06:54Martin O'Neill speaking to Matthew Campbell a little bit earlier on here at the National
00:06:59Stadium.
00:07:01Let's have a look at the St Mirren team then.
00:07:04Peter, the big change for them, only one change, Ryan Mullen replaces Shemal George in
00:07:09goal, that's obviously due to injury, that change actually happened during the game last
00:07:13weekend, but probably the big threat is the two strikers up front, Mikel Mandron and Jonah
00:07:19Ayunga, and you could only go back to that game in December, how much they troubled the
00:07:23Celtic defenders.
00:07:24Yes, and last week it was interesting that they kept the two of them up the pitch.
00:07:27Celtic's two centre-backs were occupied all the time, and they just played up against
00:07:31them, and they were quite willing to defend, which I would do, personally, because I think
00:07:35if you bring everybody back, they're just waiting to be beat with Celtic.
00:07:38I think in this particular occasion they kept two up, they were brave enough.
00:07:41The interesting thing is they've got legs in the middle of the pitch for the likes of
00:07:45Phillips, they've got a good footballer in Devaney, but I think the likes of Campbell and Phillips
00:07:49at the side of FM will run very well for the middle of the pitch, and we have to be
00:07:52very
00:07:52careful of that, because they can mix the game up, as you say, going to the two big strikers,
00:07:56they've got a bit of power and pace, but also then the midfield runners who are running
00:08:01to support them, and they do it very, very well, and I think, to be fair to my patience,
00:08:05he came in, he's managed to get that balance right behind the two strikers, which has helped
00:08:09them, and that's why they look a bigger threat now.
00:08:11Yeah, I was just going to touch on Craig McClish, this is undoubtedly the biggest game of his
00:08:15very infant managerial career up against the legend that is Martin O'Neill.
00:08:22He hasn't changed much since Steven Robinson's left for Aberdeen, but he has made some small
00:08:27tweaks, and you've seen that with the likes of Jacob Devaney's performance at Celtic Park
00:08:31last week.
00:08:32Yeah, he's made small tweaks, I mean, I'm a big fan of Steven Robinson, what he
00:08:35done with St Mern was incredible, he'd been in the top six three years in the
00:08:38bounds and build a team every season, which is incredible, but he's gave them a sort of,
00:08:43they're not as dependent on, as I say, set plays, even though they still work on them,
00:08:47you can see that with the long throws and whatever, they try and build it a little bit
00:08:50more from the back, or Stevie was probably a little bit more direct, which I would do
00:08:53against Celtic, because you have to make, you're not going to outplay Celtic, but to be fair to Craig McClish
00:08:58St Mern last week, they did for big periods, so it's going to be an interesting one in
00:09:02this one, you're saying it's his biggest game, every time he goes out here, he's
00:09:05playing Celtic, Martin O'Neill last week, they've done very, very well in that
00:09:09particular match, so I'm sure he's going here, no matter what, St Mern are underdogs,
00:09:14let's not be kidding, and it's up for Celtic to go and grab the game with the
00:09:17scruff of the neck, and I think the front three that Celtic have should be able to cause
00:09:20a lot more problems than they did last week.
00:09:23Well, Celtic just come out the tunnel alongside their opponents, St Mern,
00:09:27the two captains, Carol McGregor and Mark O'Hara, leading the teams out onto the
00:09:33hallowed turf here at Hamden Park, it's really been a home away from home this
00:09:37national stadium, Peter for Celtic, prior to last year's final they were unbeaten in
00:09:4330 games here in showpiece events, so it just shows you the memories have been
00:09:49fantastic here, the cup finals, the semi-finals, they've really created such
00:09:56fantastic memories along the way, the last two games haven't went their way, but they've
00:10:01really got to get back on the horse today.
00:10:03But that shows you that there's no guarantees in life and other men and anything else, but
00:10:07in a football match you've got to earn it, and in this particular match, Celtic have got to be
00:10:11more forceful, I just feel there were the louts in there in last week, they were too slow in the
00:10:15build-up,
00:10:15there were too many passes back that way, I think they look a much better side when they
00:10:19pass forward than they go and create, as in wide players taking people on, not passing the
00:10:24ball back, we've got too many wide players that want to pass the ball back, and I just
00:10:28think that's your job to have that freedom to go and lose the ball, and I'd like to see
00:10:45you've got a incredible record, but it means nothing today, you've got to go and earn that again.
00:10:51Yeah, absolutely, we'll just get through the start of the 11 again, it's Sinisalo,
00:10:55Ralston, Arthur, Trusty, Tierney, McGregor, captain as usual, Ingles partners him in midfield,
00:11:01Benjamin Negrin, and up front it's Sebastian Tenekte, Yang and Dyson Maeda leading the line.
00:11:09And for St Mirren, it's Mullin and goal, a back three of Donnelly, Golich and Freckleton,
00:11:15a midfield five of Ahara, Campbell, Devaney, Declan John, with Killian Phillips just ahead
00:11:20and the two strikers, Mandron and Younger leading the line for the Paisley Buddies,
00:11:27and it's the green and white hoops against the black and white stripes, just as it was back in December
00:11:34in the League Cup,
00:11:38always wonder why St Mirren and Celtic go with the green and white hoops and the black and white stripes,
00:11:43Peter,
00:11:43it's a bit of a throwback, isn't it?
00:11:44Well, they used to never actually, we actually always had to change against St Mirren,
00:11:48it wasn't allowed in that particular days, and also because the referees,
00:11:52I noticed the day they're in black, which is quite interesting, because they've got black socks and black shots.
00:11:58It's very similar to the St Mirren.
00:12:00I'm surprised, it's the first time that I've noticed that, I'm not sure if it's happened before,
00:12:05because usually the referees on a red top or whatever, I don't know the reasoning behind that.
00:12:11So, it'll be interesting, hopefully it doesn't affect anything.
00:12:14Well, they have the red numbers on the back of the top, which from the commentator's point of view is
00:12:19absolutely horrendous,
00:12:20you can never really see, so good job I've got all the players written down ahead of me.
00:12:26The Celtic will look to take centre here, shooting from right to left in the green and white hoops.
00:12:32It's a bit of the hooks.
00:12:35Benjamin Negrin over the ball, looking for that 20th goal of the season.
00:12:40Will he get it at Hampden Park today?
00:12:46And the game is underway, the Scottish Cup semi-finals, Celtic and St Mirren.
00:12:53Can the record holders get to another final? We'll soon find out.
00:12:58And a poor touch from Maeda, and that goes out for a throw-in early on here.
00:13:06A very healthy Celtic support and fine voice, and I've been speaking to the players all week about this,
00:13:12but how important Peter is, a United fan base getting behind the team?
00:13:17Listen, I keep saying it, and I've said it many, many times, people talk about your 12th man,
00:13:22they're the number one, the supporters are the biggest thing at this football club and always well-being,
00:13:26they're the ones that get you over the line, and you've got to go out there,
00:13:29and it's great to see Kieran putting the first ball forward there,
00:13:31I know Maeda's had a bad touch, but Kieran's put the ball forward and not looking to pass back,
00:13:35and I think that's where you've got to play against this team today,
00:13:37because last week it was too comfortable for them.
00:13:39Well, here's Ryan Mullin, he's been closed down, Maeda, has he got it?
00:13:43He is! Dyson Maeda, the pressing machine, gets Celtic off and running,
00:13:50early on in this semi-final, it's an unfortunate mistake from Mullin,
00:13:56he died on the ball and you just can't do that with Dyson Maeda, it's 1-0 to Celtic.
00:14:03Well, exactly what I said, you play him through the middle on this particular match,
00:14:06and you go and close the goalkeeper on the back line down,
00:14:08and that's exactly what they did and got the goal from it, so absolutely delighted,
00:14:13you can see that it was there, he had that long touch against Maeda,
00:14:17that's the one thing he will do, and I'm sure Ryan will be disappointed in it, of course,
00:14:23but we're talking about Celtic playing forward, it's one thing if it would have been Craig McLeish
00:14:27had been telling him to play forward earlier, but they actually turned out for a good position,
00:14:31played it back to the goalkeeper, and Maeda didn't give him any seconds, and thankfully Celtic are 1-0.
00:14:37And you just can't do that around Dyson Maeda, ninth goal of the season for him,
00:14:42he's been looking to get back in amongst the goals, Peter Grant,
00:14:45and that was just the perfect gift for the Japanese international.
00:14:49Well, that's him, you know, the one thing you would be saying,
00:14:51don't take too many chances when he's playing through the middle,
00:14:54you know, he's not an out-and-out goal scorer, and it's probably a Dyson Maeda goal, isn't it?
00:14:57The ball's getting blocked and swimming over the line, thankfully,
00:15:01and listen, that's exactly what the start that Celtic were looking for,
00:15:04and hopefully they can go, that gives them the confidence,
00:15:07because they have been lacking that little bit of confidence,
00:15:09you can see that in their play, not getting the goals,
00:15:12but as I say, sometimes football's simple and doing the simple things in the stadium,
00:15:15but Ciaran playing the ball forward with his first pass,
00:15:18Maeda running in behind it, and that got Celtic up the pitch, there you go again.
00:15:21Well, Ciaran Tierney just looking for that run of Dyson Maeda,
00:15:25and here's Cal McGregor on the ball, he's had many fine moments in the stadium for club and country.
00:15:34Here's Ralston, Scotland international as well, with ambitions to go to the World Cup.
00:15:41Negrin pokes the ball out for Ralston.
00:15:46McGregor, Celtic on the front foot early.
00:15:50Craig McLoosh, that is a start of nightmares for him, just the last thing he could have wanted.
00:15:58But Celtic are ahead, and this stadium is in fine voice.
00:16:06McGregor looks for the goalscorer, Dyson Maeda.
00:16:11Yang.
00:16:13Two St Mirren players round him.
00:16:17And that goes for a St Mirren throw, I think Celtic thought maybe that was theirs, but not to be.
00:16:27Celtic have been taken to extra time in their last two Scottish Cup ties.
00:16:33Not many will ever forget that Cup win at Ibrox that set up the game today.
00:16:39It's well won by Maeda.
00:16:41Tierney goes down under the challenge from O'Hara, and Celtic have the free kick.
00:16:46Celtic have won the ball back and had more tackles probably in the first four minutes than we did in
00:16:52the full 90 last week,
00:16:53and that's what you have to do no matter who you're playing against.
00:16:56You've got to earn the right, and the boys have done that, they've started that ever so well.
00:16:59And they've just got to continue that night.
00:17:01Don't slow the place down, keep St Mirren on the back foot.
00:17:04Don't start knocking the ball about your own area, bringing St Mirren out.
00:17:07You'll get your opportunity if you keep going forward.
00:17:10Well, Sinisalo on the ball, played in the semi-final last year.
00:17:14Against St Johnstone here, it was a comprehensive victory for Celtic on the day.
00:17:20Tyson Maeda was in amongst the goals that afternoon.
00:17:26There was Arthur, he had 60 minutes at Ibrox in the previous round.
00:17:32That's a good pass from McGregor to find Tierney.
00:17:35Celtic playing with a bit of zip, but Tierney's just gave the ball away.
00:17:40He's recovered well.
00:17:42St Mirren have the throw.
00:17:43As you say, Peter, there's a real intensity about Celtic this afternoon.
00:17:47I've said it all season, the team starts that way, they've got to continue.
00:17:52When Celtic play on the front foot, do the simple things.
00:17:54If I'm a full-back, you were always told, give it to your winger.
00:17:58Give it as quick as you possibly can.
00:18:00Too many times you go back to your centre-back.
00:18:02And I've not been disrespectful, a lot of times you've got to take the sting out of the game,
00:18:04I understand that.
00:18:06But when Celtic are playing, you've got to frighten opposition,
00:18:08and that's exactly what they've done.
00:18:10Here's not Mullen again, it's an unsure pass up the pitch.
00:18:16Trusty heads it on.
00:18:17It's brought down by former Mullerwell and Kilmarnock man, Liam Donnelly.
00:18:23That was Liam's coach at Fulham, he played in the same team as Matt O'Reilly.
00:18:27He was a very good player.
00:18:31And it's good pressure again from Celtic.
00:18:34And that will go for a St Mirren throw.
00:18:41It's just not been the start that Celtic's had in many recent games, Peter.
00:18:47It just alleviates any stress round the fixture almost, just getting that early goal, doesn't it?
00:18:53Well, it sounds simple, but I think it started with Kieran Tierney paying the ball forward,
00:18:57and we got a throw from it, and that was all you needed.
00:19:00Here's O'Hara, the captain.
00:19:02Listed the League Cup back in December.
00:19:06A painful afternoon under the dark, Camden Sky.
00:19:13Donnelly clips it on, Celtic wanting to win the ball back, but here's O'Hara pushing through,
00:19:19but it's well defended by Austin Trusty, just pulling it back to his goalkeeper.
00:19:26This is the wee things I'm talking about, see when Tony's got it,
00:19:29so for me I just gave it straight out to Yang, right away, and keep St Mirren where they are,
00:19:33because they've all been nervous because they've lost a quick goal.
00:19:36But you don't allow them to get a breather again.
00:19:43Engels, back in the starting oven.
00:19:47Listen, I think that's a big plus, I know people are critical,
00:19:50I've always been a big support of him, I think he's a really talented boy.
00:19:53Yeah, he's not played at his best, but I still think he's a talent.
00:19:56I think he could win last week, and for the period he was on was excellent.
00:19:59Now Ralston's looking for the run of Yang, but the ball just swivels out for a throw.
00:20:05The pause ruffles round the stadium.
00:20:08Yes, because what they're doing with that is they're putting the ball up there,
00:20:12and look where they are, they're in the final third now.
00:20:14Now he's trying to keep St Mirren in there.
00:20:16We'll just see that chance again from Majeda.
00:20:21And Gogic concedes the corner kick.
00:20:25And Celtic have the corner, and they want to go quick here.
00:20:31But they're just not dealing with the press up front at the minute, Peter.
00:20:35Celtic are so much closer than they were at any time in the match last week,
00:20:38so that's the difference.
00:20:39And St Mirren, I always say, you give good players time in the ball, they look excellent players.
00:20:42You give ordinary players time in the ball, they look good players.
00:20:45So you make sure you give them as little time as you possibly can.
00:20:48Yeah, Sebastian Tenekte.
00:20:51That's the cut inside, as he always tries to do.
00:20:56Goes out to Arne Engels, he's got the space, goes for the shot, and it's off the post!
00:21:01From the Belgian international.
00:21:04He's very unlucky not to get on the score sheet there, Engels.
00:21:08He's been denied by the post.
00:21:11Yeah, it was a great pick-out with Tenekte.
00:21:15I was just looking to see if there was a slight deflection on it.
00:21:17No, he's not.
00:21:18He's at the outside of the post, it was a fantastic effort,
00:21:20and they know he's more than capable of that.
00:21:24Well, Freckleton looking to help his goalkeeper in distribution now.
00:21:28They're just struggling to get out at the minute, St Mirren,
00:21:30but this is just great to watch in terms of a Celtic point of view,
00:21:34if they can just keep it up.
00:21:36Gogic.
00:21:37Well, this is when people keep telling you about young coaches and managers,
00:21:40whatever, and dinosaurs.
00:21:43Goalkeepers playing out, defenders playing out,
00:21:45when they're not good enough to do it,
00:21:46and the Celtic are putting so much pressure on them.
00:21:48You've got to do something different,
00:21:50and that's going a little bit longer,
00:21:51and that's not going long ball, you've got to create that space.
00:21:54There's no space for them to play out,
00:21:55and they put themselves under so much pressure,
00:21:57and if they keep doing that, it could be a long afternoon for them.
00:22:01Well, Senna Sato, on the ball.
00:22:05Goes to Benjamin Arthur.
00:22:08Of course, came in and made an impact on his debut,
00:22:11Petaudry got the nod four days later at Ibrox,
00:22:15and he's looked very assured,
00:22:17he just creates a balance with the right foot.
00:22:21I know that all season it's been scales and trusty,
00:22:25both left-footed players,
00:22:27and they've both done ever so well,
00:22:29but that balance is good to have.
00:22:31Tierney lofts the ball forward.
00:22:35See, I'm criticising St Murns,
00:22:37Celtic done the exact same as St Murns were doing,
00:22:39had too many passes for no apparent reason,
00:22:42and it was odd, Dyson made the run three times,
00:22:45and look how high St Murns are,
00:22:46and we kept passing it along the back line,
00:22:48and then we ended up losing cheap possession,
00:22:50and they're the things that can turn matches.
00:22:53Arthur clips the ball forward.
00:22:57That's a good play from Yang and Negrin,
00:23:00they're going to work out again,
00:23:01they do, Celtic have a better chance here,
00:23:04Yang looks for Maeda,
00:23:07it's sweeped up,
00:23:08but it goes back to Mullen,
00:23:09he's got to be careful on the ball,
00:23:11and he's really not sure,
00:23:13his confidence looks shook about Peter.
00:23:15Well, as I said,
00:23:17it's already given the goalkeeper criticism,
00:23:18but they passed it back to him,
00:23:20and then left him on his own,
00:23:21with no option to pass,
00:23:22he's done the right thing to actually kick out of the play,
00:23:28Yeah, the pass back by,
00:23:30I think it was Freckleton,
00:23:31not too sure,
00:23:32but the weight on the pass was extremely heavy for Mullen,
00:23:37and if your confidence is short a little bit,
00:23:39that's not ideal.
00:23:45The Celtic play it about the back,
00:23:52and the ball,
00:23:54he swivels out.
00:23:55Well, we're criticising, as I say,
00:23:56St Mumford doing the exact same thing,
00:23:58there's twice Celtic have tried to do the same thing,
00:24:00and given cheap possession away.
00:24:02I just don't understand it,
00:24:03when you've got somebody on the rack,
00:24:04keep them on the rack.
00:24:08Declan John,
00:24:09former Rangers player,
00:24:10goes back to Freckleton,
00:24:14goes out to the near side,
00:24:15that's a,
00:24:15surely a handball by O'Hara.
00:24:20The claim from the Celtic players,
00:24:22that ball looked to have went out.
00:24:29You can see it again,
00:24:31it does look like he's in play.
00:24:34It should be a yellow card,
00:24:36if it's in play.
00:24:38Yeah, but,
00:24:38I'm not a great believer in giving a yellow card for that,
00:24:41but it definitely was still in play.
00:24:43I think he was just getting the ball back really,
00:24:45it's not as if the play was going to continue,
00:24:47so, I've no problem not giving a yellow card,
00:24:49but it's definitely a free kick.
00:24:50Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:24:52Freckleton,
00:24:54for John,
00:24:54and Cal McGregor nips that one out,
00:24:58and it just breaks down between Yang and McGregor.
00:25:02And Ryan Mullen seems to have a bit of an issue here,
00:25:07he's already the back-up goalkeeper for St Mirren.
00:25:11And he's went down.
00:25:16And you could be looking at a debut here for Grant Tamo Savickius.
00:25:27And if Ryan Mullen has to make way,
00:25:30it's a quite unfortunate start, of course,
00:25:33Shamal George,
00:25:34the usual starting goalkeeper for St Mirren,
00:25:37he's out injured.
00:25:40and it could be a debut for the young goalkeeper.
00:25:46Listen, he's had to kick the ball so often in the first period here,
00:25:50it was quite incredible actually,
00:25:51and they kept passing the ball back.
00:25:53And listen, I can understand,
00:25:56but then you've got to say to young Craig McLeish then,
00:26:01he's got to see that St Mirren,
00:26:02he's got to tell his back line,
00:26:03give him a breather,
00:26:04get up the pitch,
00:26:05make it a little bit more simpler for him.
00:26:07But they didn't,
00:26:08he's received probably more touches than any central midfield player,
00:26:11the goalkeeper.
00:26:12And if he's not played for a long time,
00:26:14it could be anything,
00:26:15a groin,
00:26:15a kicking muscle,
00:26:17because he's been left with no option but to go forward constantly.
00:26:22Well, still getting some treatment here is Ryan Mullen,
00:26:26former Celtic Academy product as well,
00:26:30so we're just waiting to see,
00:26:34and it looks like Grant Tamo Savickias is going to get stripped,
00:26:40and this could be the end of the game for Ryan Mullen in the goal of St Mirren.
00:26:46And it's not a game.
00:26:48Yeah, it's the end for him, unfortunately.
00:26:50It's not a game he'll look back on, unfortunately.
00:26:53Ah, it's a shame,
00:26:54you never like to see that,
00:26:56you know,
00:26:56okay, we had a slight error but,
00:26:58everybody makes errors.
00:27:01Well,
00:27:02it's going to be a debut,
00:27:0417 years of age,
00:27:05Peter,
00:27:06for Grant Tamo Savickias,
00:27:07to come on,
00:27:09from the bench,
00:27:10probably in his wildest dreams,
00:27:12he wouldn't have imagined this,
00:27:14but St Mirren,
00:27:14they have such a,
00:27:16a great youth set up that,
00:27:18these kids that come through St Mirren,
00:27:20they have to be ready to play.
00:27:22Yeah, I think the difficult is,
00:27:23I know it's difficult enough for an outfield player,
00:27:26but a goalkeeper having to deal with a lot,
00:27:28and it's a shame for young Ryan going off, obviously.
00:27:32Listen,
00:27:33sometimes this is how your career begins,
00:27:36you go on and you give one of these moments.
00:27:41Well, Ryan Mullin gets a hug from his manager,
00:27:46the young goalkeeper makes his way on.
00:27:51The only thing we look at last week,
00:27:53Ryan Mullin went on early in the game,
00:27:55and then we never tested in the full game,
00:27:56let's hopefully,
00:27:57it's a lot more different today.
00:28:01Well, Celtic will be looking to try and test the goalkeeper,
00:28:05as you said,
00:28:05Peter,
00:28:06pretty early doors.
00:28:11A goalkeeping conundrum starting to appear in Paisley.
00:28:19With injuries to the two starting goalkeepers,
00:28:22Sinasal,
00:28:23positive pass,
00:28:24Maeda gets the break of the ball.
00:28:26Here's Ralston over the halfway line.
00:28:31Well, the one thing you're told,
00:28:33when there's any change of goalkeeper,
00:28:34whether he's experienced or young,
00:28:35it doesn't matter,
00:28:36you've got to put him under pressure as quickly as you possibly can,
00:28:39and hopefully Celtic can do that by getting crosses and bodies into the box.
00:28:45Tonecte just can't keep that one in play,
00:28:47it's good defending from Mark O'Hara,
00:28:49working back.
00:28:50In that wing-back role,
00:28:52helping out his defenders.
00:28:55I don't mind that,
00:28:57because I think at the end of the day,
00:28:58I'd rather my winger have to go at the full-back or the wing-back,
00:29:02so that you're getting an opportunity to be positive,
00:29:05and have that option of losing the ball.
00:29:13Well, first,
00:29:16outing an opportunity here for the goalkeeper.
00:29:19And he's going to go long.
00:29:22Arthur heads it back in to the Sumerran half.
00:29:27There's Tamo Savickias, just clears his lines, and it goes out,
00:29:31but he's probably done the right thing there, having watched Ryan Mullin,
00:29:35been stung by Dyson Maeda.
00:29:36I agree with that.
00:29:37I agree with that, because to be fair to the kid, he told it when he was taking a bye
00:29:41kick to push up,
00:29:42he wasn't going to play it short, and for me it was the right decision.
00:29:47Sanasalo,
00:29:49a little touch on the edge of his own box here.
00:29:55Engels just has to be careful,
00:29:56Samaritan put the press on now.
00:29:58Sanasalo clears up the pitch.
00:30:03I keep saying it, but it's a terrible decision with Sanasalo.
00:30:08I don't care, you're trying to play out, he's too slow,
00:30:12Samaritan waiting on that Celtic playing that next pass.
00:30:15McGregor just looking for the run of Maeda,
00:30:17but not to the liking of referee Matthew McDermott.
00:30:24If I was Callum, I'd be at Sanasalo,
00:30:26I'd be giving him dogs abuse at this moment in time.
00:30:28Don't slow the game as much as you're doing and pass the ball quicker.
00:30:32Let's keep the tempo up, let's get the ball in St. Murren's half and play for there,
00:30:36just to keep them under pressure, let's test the young goalkeeper.
00:30:39Tierney looks for the run of Tenekte,
00:30:41Maeda's going to put the squeeze on the goalkeeper here.
00:30:44Just gets it away on time,
00:30:48it's now becoming a bit of a psychological battle now.
00:30:52As Tenekte and Tierney run into each other.
00:31:00O'Hara waits for movement from his teammates.
00:31:09Just no options ahead of him, throws it in now.
00:31:12Maeda nearly cuts that out.
00:31:15Donnelly needs to go back.
00:31:18There's Tamo Savickias.
00:31:21And his pass goes straight to Tenekte.
00:31:24Celtic on the front foot, Negrin gets the shot away.
00:31:27And it's well held this time by the young goalkeeper.
00:31:39But yet again, St. Murren have got the ball in the half way line,
00:31:42Liam Donnelly's got the ball in the half way line, he passes it back to his goalkeeper.
00:31:45I bet you the two St. Murren goalkeepers have had more touches than any central midfield player that St. Murren
00:31:51have got on the pitch.
00:31:52And that's a shame because Devane's a very, very good player.
00:31:56But they're taking too many chances at the back.
00:31:58And it could be a long afternoon for them if they keep doing that.
00:32:01There's Freckleton going back to his goalkeeper.
00:32:04Tamo Savickias goes short.
00:32:09There's Teklon John for Freckleton.
00:32:12Celtic should be able to get their foot on it.
00:32:15And here's Engels.
00:32:16Rage the challenge.
00:32:19And it's Tierney now.
00:32:23Obviously a famous moment in his career in this stadium back in November.
00:32:31Left-footed strike in the 92nd minute against Denmark.
00:32:37Sent Scotland on their way to the USA.
00:32:43Tusty.
00:32:44There's Sinusalo now.
00:32:48Trusty.
00:32:49A bit of pressure now from Mandron.
00:32:52Looks to go long for Maeda.
00:32:55Gogic heads it out.
00:33:01Twenty minutes gone here at Hampden.
00:33:05It's Celtic one.
00:33:07Sinmarin nil.
00:33:08Maeda with the goal.
00:33:10Separates the sides at the minute.
00:33:18And Martin O'Neill.
00:33:21Watching on from the bench.
00:33:28Semi-final success back in November here.
00:33:34Negrin.
00:33:36Maeda's Maeda on.
00:33:37Here's Dyson Maeda with the shot.
00:33:38It's parried by Tamo Savickius.
00:33:42And it's a good save from the goalkeeper.
00:33:44As Maeda has a look at goal.
00:33:48Yeah, it's the right thing.
00:33:49It's a good pass.
00:33:50He's had it first time.
00:33:52That's when Dyson Maeda's probably his best
00:33:53and he does everything off his first touch,
00:33:55as in without thinking about it.
00:33:57It's a good pass for Benji Negrin.
00:34:01Rylsten throws it back in play.
00:34:03It's headed out by Freckleton.
00:34:08Well, the young goalkeeper, he's had a few touches so far.
00:34:12I suppose that's what you want.
00:34:14Get his hand on the ball.
00:34:18Rylsten.
00:34:20Yang.
00:34:21Celtic still in possession.
00:34:23They've lost out now.
00:34:25Phillips over the halfway line.
00:34:27For a younger.
00:34:29We know all about Jonah Younger.
00:34:36Celtic back in possession.
00:34:38Back on the ball.
00:34:39Celtic fans, applause.
00:34:42The defensive work rate.
00:34:56Serna Sal finds Negrin.
00:34:58It's going to come very deep to get the ball.
00:35:04That's a good ball.
00:35:05Rylsten.
00:35:07As Yang.
00:35:10Arthur.
00:35:13On, on, Brentford man.
00:35:22He's on the Salo, seen a lot of the ball so far.
00:35:28Too much for me, actually, because you can see how high St Mern are playing.
00:35:33You would probably say you've got the front three you would want with a little bit of pace up front,
00:35:37Tonecte, Yang and Mieda, and they've got a little bit frustrated what you end up getting them as they come
00:35:43towards the ball then,
00:35:44and then Celtic end up playing the ball back.
00:35:46It's too slow now, we're letting St Mern get that breather, as I say.
00:35:50And it was very similar to last week, I thought the first 10-15 minutes done great,
00:35:53you know, put them under pressure, then all of a sudden they started slowing it down,
00:35:56Sinasalo taking too many touches, too long to pass,
00:35:59now all of a sudden the game's got raggedy again, and this is suiting St Mern.
00:36:04Oh my, that puts the pressure on, but I'm sure the flag goes up on the far side.
00:36:12I suppose that will be the disappointment for the manager and Sean Maloney, Peter,
00:36:18as they've just not kept that intensity up that they got from that early liftoff.
00:36:24Yeah, I'm so surprised that Martin or Sean's not going out to Sinasalo, him more than anybody.
00:36:29You know, I know the players are passing the ball back, yes, you'd be telling them to go.
00:36:33It all comes from Sinasalo slowing it down, moving it from the right to the left,
00:36:38then St Mern just lock on, we go along and we lose possession,
00:36:41whereas at the start we were just moving the ball quickly, we were chasing them down,
00:36:45we were winning second balls, we were getting them up the pitch,
00:36:47now that just seems to have slowed the game right down, and it suits them more than it suits Celtic.
00:36:51See, now they're playing out, they weren't doing that at the start.
00:36:56John comes under the pressure, and there's a handball in there.
00:37:04And, of course, Dunfermline saw their passage through to the final yesterday.
00:37:11Their manager's just sitting a few feet away from us, Peter, Neil Wennon.
00:37:16Ah, thoroughly deserved, thoroughly deserved it on the day, you know,
00:37:19and I'm delighted for Neil, it just shows you who good a manager he is.
00:37:23You know, he's done fantastically with Dunfermline, and listen, you know,
00:37:27look, Aberdeen, Hibs, and Falkirk out it, you deserve to be there.
00:37:30Yeah, they've done absolutely brilliant to get to the final, Dunfermline.
00:37:37And a showpiece event to look forward to for them.
00:37:42Here's Maeda now, going to put pressure on Gogic.
00:37:45He has taken the touch, the Cypriot.
00:37:49Very much under pressure, but he's done well to find Freckleton.
00:37:57Tenecte for Onohara, it was.
00:38:01Tierney now, is he going to get the ball?
00:38:03He goes down under the challenge, Matthew McDermott blows his whistle.
00:38:09But you're right there about not pressing the ball.
00:38:12Maeda goes himself, and everybody else is jogging up behind him.
00:38:15But as you see, the first five, ten minutes, everybody was in.
00:38:17St Mumm couldn't lift their head, that's why they end up making errors at the back.
00:38:21Now they're getting a little bit more time and a wee bit more freedom to pick the pass up.
00:38:26And they're disappointed in this last period, you know, because of that.
00:38:31Now St Mumm have got Celtic really and been comfortable doing what they want to do.
00:38:36Whereas at that moment Celtic had their foot on the gas, they just couldn't live with it.
00:38:41But, Ralston, Engels did make the run, but Ralston opted not to go for a strong challenge from Ralston.
00:38:51Yang goes over to the other side of the pitch, the near side.
00:38:54Tenecte now, O'Hara ahead of him.
00:38:57Does well, the winger.
00:39:00He's had to go back to his captain, Celtic still move the ball around.
00:39:07Good ball in from Ralston, picked up by Tenecte again.
00:39:15Trusty.
00:39:16St Mumm have pushed Celtic back to their goalkeeper now.
00:39:22Arthur.
00:39:32Maeda.
00:39:34A ninth goal for him this season.
00:39:37Ties on with Yang in the scoring charts.
00:39:4071 all in for Tyson Maeda.
00:39:48Ralston looks for the run of Maeda.
00:39:52As Gogic tracks him all the way.
00:39:56Yang has MacGregor as an option.
00:39:59Finds his captain.
00:40:05Ralston.
00:40:09For Benjamin Negrin.
00:40:11Nice pass to Yang.
00:40:14Can he take his defender on?
00:40:16He does.
00:40:16Yang gets the ball in.
00:40:18He just evades everybody.
00:40:19Here's Tierney.
00:40:20Takes a touch.
00:40:21Gets the ball in.
00:40:22And that just loops over the crossbar.
00:40:25And goes for St Mirren.
00:40:29Goal kick.
00:40:31The things we're talking about here, the supporters there.
00:40:33We were in the final third and ended up back 20 yards inside our own half.
00:40:38And that frustrates supporters because we're in good areas.
00:40:41We've got wide players.
00:40:42Feed them and let them take people on.
00:40:44It's going to be interesting.
00:40:47I was changing the ball.
00:40:48I was wondering whether he was telling another goalie off.
00:40:50I am.
00:40:51But no, he's changing the ball.
00:40:52But we have to do that.
00:40:54You're right.
00:40:55You mentioned Medea had made a run.
00:40:56Arne Engels had made a run.
00:40:58Benjamin Negrin's made a run.
00:40:59And we've all turned it down and we've passed back the way.
00:41:01And that's the frustration because their runs are the proper runs because the space is between the back three of
00:41:07St Mirren.
00:41:10Goal kick for Donnelly.
00:41:15O'Hara just trips at the most crucial moment.
00:41:18And Celtic have the ball back.
00:41:19Negrin looks to float it through for Yang.
00:41:21Maeda lets it go, but Yang picks up the ball.
00:41:26Shouts for a free kick, but McDermott not happy.
00:41:29Actually blocks the run of McGregor there as St Mirren now look to pounce on the counter.
00:41:39Still, as they go, and they've won the corner kick out of it.
00:41:42And that just gets a ripple of noise from the more than the pockets of St Mirren fans here at
00:41:49the National Stadium.
00:41:51Well that's exactly what they're looking on, Celtic to give silly possession away.
00:41:55All of a sudden, they're on your back line, and they've spoke about it before, they've got pace and power
00:42:00up front.
00:42:01But they've also got support and good legs from the middle of the field.
00:42:05Now Marco Harak is over to take the corner kick.
00:42:08Of course, they've got the opening goal early in the League Cup final from a set piece.
00:42:15So this will be the moments that Craig McQuish will be looking to take advantage of.
00:42:23Ball comes in, swivels round, it's the header, and it's a great save from Vujami Sinisalo.
00:42:31He had to make it, and it seemed a well-worked corner kick, Donnelly's down.
00:42:37It's a strong header, and a fantastic save from Sinisalo.
00:42:42It's a brilliant save, but I'm not being funny. I watched Donnelly score a couple of weeks ago.
00:42:47He scored the hiccups Aberdeen, he had three big chances off his set plays, he's very, very good in there.
00:42:52Even though he's not the biggest, he's standing at the edge of the box on his own, and runs free
00:42:57from the edge of the box.
00:42:59Oh, O'Hara's over the ball again.
00:43:01Samirin do have the two players on the outside, and again they've tried to work it.
00:43:06Trusty meets the header this time.
00:43:08And as Tonecte strokes the ball out.
00:43:11But it was the exact same free corner, but a different player.
00:43:17Here's Freckleton out of position.
00:43:21Donnelly, his touch is loose, he just recovers in time.
00:43:30Here's Gorgic.
00:43:33And that will just give St Mirren a bit of confidence that they can.
00:43:40Bloody the nose of this Celtic team, should they get the opportunity.
00:43:45Well that's what I'm talking about, taking the pace of the game down.
00:43:47When Celtic play at the tempo they're capable of, St Mirren wouldn't get near them.
00:43:51And I don't mean that disrespect, it's just fact.
00:43:54But now they've allowed them, as I say, to get oxygen in their lungs, now they're allowing them to have
00:43:57that little bit of time on the ball.
00:43:59O'Hara looks for the pass, Tierney cuts it out, and the flag does go up.
00:44:04Something that you love, Peter Grant, that late offside flag.
00:44:06Absolutely, wait till someone gets an injury and then do it, and you know he's ten yards offside.
00:44:11But the point I'm making is because then St Mirren, simple thing, they go up the pitch, they get the
00:44:14set play,
00:44:15then they have another set play.
00:44:17Sinisalo has a fantastic save from it.
00:44:20But then they switch off again, they don't go out and mark someone, you can see what they've done,
00:44:24they've just put another big guy at the edge of the box and just changed the personnel.
00:44:28Sinisalo pressured by Phillips as Mandron puts a squeeze on, he's got to clear his lines here.
00:44:35And now Sinisalo's had to tip it out and make up for his own amends there.
00:44:43And Matthew McDermott has gave something here.
00:44:47I think it was a handball potentially, as we see this one back, Peter.
00:44:55I'm not sure, I'm not sure it was a handball, but I'll tell you what, Sinisalo's a very lucky man.
00:45:03No, he's done well, so recover it, but...
00:45:05No, I don't think, personally, if it was given against us, I'd be fuming.
00:45:09I don't think it's a free kick.
00:45:11If it was given against us, and I've got to be fair, if it was for us, I'd be crying.
00:45:16But we've brought it on ourself, and I said it, too many times going back to the goalkeeper,
00:45:20too slow he playing, Aloudsou Murn, they've got pressure up the pitch,
00:45:23you know they're good at set plays, you know they're playing with a front two.
00:45:27Too slow again, and then Aloudsou Murn back in again.
00:45:31Now Tierney knocks the ball up for Maeda, Gogic heads the ball out,
00:45:36but that will be the concern for Martin and Sean,
00:45:39you can see the manager's on the touchline now.
00:45:44But almost a game of two goalkeeping errors leading to goals there,
00:45:49Sinisalo managed to tip it away, but there was a handball and the build-up to it.
00:45:56St Mirren were penalised for it, and Sinisalo clears it up looking for Yang,
00:46:03he's going to put the pressure on Freckleton now.
00:46:06And he does well, Miguel Freckleton.
00:46:15For Negrin, he does well this week, he's going to get on the end of it.
00:46:19And Gogic quite cutely plays it off, Celtic's top scorer.
00:46:28And that's a very late challenge from Arna Engels,
00:46:32and the yellow card comes out for the Belgian international.
00:46:37He went in at quite some pace, Peter.
00:46:41He comes out, though.
00:46:43Yeah, I think he's fortunate enough that he's not showing his studs,
00:46:45he's actually been in a genuine attempt.
00:46:49Yeah, I don't think he could give an order off for that.
00:46:53But it just shows you that St Mirren are getting that little bit of oxygen in their lungs,
00:46:59and they're quite content with it, you know, they're getting that wee bit of belief.
00:47:03And I think you can only hand it to Celtic and say that Celtic has given them that,
00:47:07you know, with the way they've been playing.
00:47:10One ball for the backline, all of a sudden St Mirren, we're panicking,
00:47:14and Gogic defends it really well.
00:47:15But the space is in behind them and we keep playing in to feet,
00:47:18and that's what I'm saying, me there and that's getting frustrated now,
00:47:20and they're coming short.
00:47:21So look at the space that's in behind you, you've got half a football pitch.
00:47:24John makes a run, Rylston heads it down.
00:47:30St Mirren just enjoying a little bit of the ball.
00:47:34Celtic win, the throw in.
00:47:41So you think if Sinasato hadn't tipped that out and it went to VAR, Peter,
00:47:46that would have been overruled potentially?
00:47:47Yeah, I think so.
00:47:49Listen, I could only do it if it was putting another foot in the Celtic doing it,
00:47:52I'd be fuming if they gave a free kick against us for that.
00:47:55But the player's at the side, his body really, and his back,
00:48:00he's not made no attempt to play with his arm, the goalkeepers actually had it off him.
00:48:05He's very lucky, but hopefully that's the warning that Sinasato now realises,
00:48:10play it quicker, play the game quicker.
00:48:13A little ten minutes to go in the first half here at Hampden.
00:48:19Celtic 1-0 St Mirren, but St Mirren have had a couple of opportunities to equalise.
00:48:26Engels for Tenecte, and Celtic show some positive intent.
00:48:31Tierney.
00:48:38Tenecte goes to go back to Sinasato.
00:48:50The Celtic take their time here.
00:48:53Engels.
00:48:56For Arthur.
00:49:03Well.
00:49:07Negren.
00:49:09For Engels now, he's touches Poohr,
00:49:12He's also on a booking, he has to be careful.
00:49:15Farn the angles, Celtic come away, and now a chance to get forward.
00:49:19Tierney, swings the ball in, looks for it, Yang heads it on,
00:49:24it's off the crossbar!
00:49:27Yang denied, that's twice now Celtic have had the woodwork,
00:49:32as the Korean international is denied by the crossbar.
00:49:38Yeah, it's a brilliant ball-in for Kierm, Tierney takes out,
00:49:41and it's a brilliant header, you know, he did everything right,
00:49:44he hides it back across the goal, he's so unlucky.
00:49:49Brilliant ball, as they say, simple thing, get down the side,
00:49:53put a cross in the box, body's in the box, a big, big chance.
00:50:01Big opportunity, Tierney got the ball in the box that time,
00:50:05found his winger,
00:50:09and, once again denied,
00:50:11Engels hit the post earlier in the game.
00:50:15Gorgic now, wants to go back to his goalkeeper,
00:50:18as he clears up the pitch,
00:50:20to the applause of his supporters.
00:50:24A younger, once again, just causing problems.
00:50:28But that's the point I'm making,
00:50:30if you're Craig McLeish and you've got a younger Mandarin,
00:50:32and you give away a goal that you did,
00:50:34you must be sitting down there, if you had any hair, pull it out,
00:50:38because the bottom line is, you know, you've got two big lads
00:50:41who have not really lost the ball in there yet.
00:50:44Celtic look to go on through San Asalo.
00:50:53It's another St Mirren throw.
00:50:56I think a second goal would really make things a bit more relaxed for Celtic,
00:51:03as the threat of the St Mirren team grows.
00:51:08This is the fifth game Craig McLeish has taken charge of,
00:51:13since been named the interim manager.
00:51:17Here's Negrin now for Tenekte.
00:51:21It's Tenekte, his shot's blocked.
00:51:24Shouts of a handball on Phillips.
00:51:29McGregor, or Tierney.
00:51:36Negrin.
00:51:43Arthur.
00:51:46Passes out for Ralston.
00:51:48He's touched his poor, it's put him in a bit of bother.
00:51:52Arthur picks up the ball,
00:51:54then it goes back to the Celtic goalkeeper once again.
00:52:01Engels.
00:52:02And now,
00:52:03they'll put the pressure on, San Asalo.
00:52:06Clips it on, Gogic.
00:52:09Wins ahead on Maeda.
00:52:10It's very scrappy if the midfield team are getting into the game.
00:52:14But here's now Yang.
00:52:16Trying to get there ahead of Freckleton.
00:52:19And it's done well again.
00:52:20Miguel Freckleton under the pressure.
00:52:25Good defensive work from Yang, but it is a free kick.
00:52:29And you will get that from Yang.
00:52:32Yeah, you're right, Freckleton done very, very well.
00:52:35Yang never gave up, he continued his...
00:52:37He probably didn't need to tackle him because he'd done very well to get there.
00:52:40He gave us a free kick away.
00:52:42But, yeah, again, it was a simple ball forward.
00:52:49Celtic players seem to be looking for more options ahead of them at the minute.
00:52:57San Asalo looks to play that ball into the centre of the pitch from Maeda.
00:53:01Hasn't held it up well.
00:53:04See, that's the difference.
00:53:05He's in 20 yards, he just takes a touch and turns, and Gogic is so far off him.
00:53:09But now Gogic is quite willing to leave him on there because he's playing it first time
00:53:12and giving the ball away every time he's received possession in that situation.
00:53:17And that's when you say about being a centre forward.
00:53:20The centre forwards would take it all in their back foot,
00:53:22they'd be running at the defender.
00:53:25Everything's too slow.
00:53:29For such a, since a late start.
00:53:32We were talking about it, goalkeeper's not at the safety make.
00:53:34You know, one parry which you would say should really be a keeper.
00:53:38But apart from that, it's been far too easy, the same as it was last week
00:53:41for the goalkeeper after a substitution.
00:53:44Yeah, Grant, Tamo Savickias.
00:53:47I'm glad you're saying the second name.
00:53:54Mandron holds the ball up well for Devane,
00:53:59who had a flying share of the ball last week at Celtic Park.
00:54:06Here's Tamo Savickias.
00:54:13Lofted forward, the ball just bounces off Mandron, still in there,
00:54:17and he's won the free kick.
00:54:19The Frenchman, Mikel Mandron.
00:54:23And that is the frustration for the Celtic team at the minute,
00:54:26they just can't seem to bold on the foundations that were laid in the first minute.
00:54:33Oh, and that, as I say, the Masters are downfall in that respect,
00:54:37even though we're still winning the game 1-0, but I'm talking performance-wise.
00:54:42Here's Mandron.
00:54:47Looks for Philips.
00:54:49Sinisawa should collect that in the Hampden sunshine.
00:54:55Now that's the team I'm looking, he's got a very good throw on him,
00:54:58I think he was on all day, Negrim was on all day in the middle of the pitch,
00:55:01but because it's so slow, St Murray can look about them and then can lock on exactly what they've done
00:55:05now.
00:55:07And Tierney has to clip the ball out of play after Tenecte lost possession,
00:55:14so Mandron look to try and go up quite quick, but McDermott, the referee,
00:55:21asking for it to be taken in its correct position.
00:55:31The ball goes out for a goal kick, a younger it was.
00:55:36The ball goes out.
00:55:41Sinisawa, he's going to be pressured here, he's taken an extra touch,
00:55:46and St Murray have the opportunity, and it's an opportunity they've seriously passed up.
00:55:53Killian Phillips it was, in there looking to pounce on the mistake from Sinisawa and his defenders,
00:56:03and have not taken advantage of it.
00:56:08I just find it quite incredible, I've said it for the last twenty, twenty-five minutes,
00:56:13you know, that they're going to be the masters of their own downfall here.
00:56:17And to be fair, the goalkeeper can apologise all day if he wants.
00:56:21Why has it taken so long? I can imagine, you know, and people talk about modern day,
00:56:27nobody would get away with that at any level, because you'd be telling them to get the ball forward,
00:56:32play forward when it's on to play forward, take too many touches, too slow,
00:56:35we've been saying it for how long? And it's just going to wait, you don't wait until the mistakes made,
00:56:39you do it, you rectify it while the game's going on as quickly as you possibly can,
00:56:45and they've not done that.
00:56:47The Samirin goalkeeper clears it up, it's not got much distance in it,
00:56:52and it goes out for a Celtic throw.
00:56:56A big chance for Samirin, Phillips just couldn't get the right connection round the ball,
00:57:03otherwise we could be sitting here saying Celtic want, Samirin want.
00:57:15Arthur heads it out.
00:57:19And those Samirin are 1-0 down, they've seen plenty of positives
00:57:25on their performance level, they'll believe they can get something going.
00:57:34And here's Yang, Negrin now, a bit of space round him, Negrin runs into traffic.
00:57:44Engels just shifts the ball.
00:57:48Three minutes added on here at Harmden at the end of this first half.
00:57:53Tenekte looks for Tierney, it's well tracked by Mandron.
00:57:59Back defending, Arthur lets the ball bounce, McGregor picks up the ball,
00:58:06can Celtic finish this second half.
00:58:09With a goal, it would just alleviate any anxiety in the stadium,
00:58:16given the fact they're 1-0 ahead in this semi-final.
00:58:26It's back to Sinisalo.
00:58:34He got a big shout from the crowd there,
00:58:38Miljami Sinisalo.
00:58:43I don't know how long he's wanting, I mean, he's looking as if to say,
00:58:46well, I've no movement, I understand that, but the first play,
00:58:51you've got to know where you're going.
00:58:53He doesn't know, he's just guessing then once he receives the ball,
00:58:56and it's too late then because Samirin are setting that way,
00:58:58we're playing with two strikers, they're going to put you under pressure,
00:59:00and they're realising Celtic are nervous.
00:59:02Brilliant from Yang, Negrin nips forward into the box,
00:59:05but it's well defended.
00:59:07And there's Declan John in there.
00:59:13Here's McGregor, angles for Ralston.
00:59:18They look to find Maeda, it's cut out again.
00:59:21McGregor off the late challenge there, and the free kick is given.
00:59:31Well, plenty for the management team to think about.
00:59:37I disagree with you there, Dylan, I don't think it's that much to think about.
00:59:41Too far, too slow, Sinisalo's doing too many touches,
00:59:44the back line keeps passing it back, and the space is in front of them.
00:59:47So, for me, for Marl, it's simple.
00:59:50It's a simple change.
00:59:51Simple.
00:59:51Yeah.
00:59:57Arthur loses out, the flag goes up.
01:00:00The Celtic have the free kick.
01:00:07And you think that the first ball, as they say of the day,
01:00:09Kieran Tierney, when the ball goes back,
01:00:10then drops into the corner, Celtic up, get a throw in,
01:00:13sorry, get a throw in against them because Maeda miscontrolled it.
01:00:16They gave possession away, Celtic were tight on them,
01:00:18and scored a goal from it.
01:00:19It's not rocket science, and it's interesting now,
01:00:21because there's only a minute left,
01:00:23or maybe this is even half time on his kick, he's going long.
01:00:28It's caused so many problems for themselves.
01:00:31Engels looks for Tenekte.
01:00:34Great pass.
01:00:35Brilliant vision from the Belgian, Tenekte.
01:00:40For Yang, it's a good touch into space in the box.
01:00:43Back heels it for Ralston.
01:00:47Anthony Ralston, with a fine finish, worthy of a striker.
01:00:55Gets Celtic into a really cosy position now, as they go into half-time.
01:01:00It's Celtic two, St. Mirren now.
01:01:04Hey, gets into that cosy position, gets him out of jail more like,
01:01:08because, to be fair, it's got to start with a fantastic pass for Arne Engels,
01:01:12switched out to Tenekte.
01:01:13And then he drives in saying, you wonder what he's going to do,
01:01:16is he going to get a shot away himself as you're looking?
01:01:18And to be fair, it's excellent play.
01:01:21Once he gets in, when Yang picks it up, he goes on the outside,
01:01:25but then he just rolls his throat and lives that little bit of space,
01:01:28but what a fantastic finish for Tony Ralston.
01:01:31A first goal of the season for Anthony Ralston.
01:01:36And it's came at the perfect time, a goal at the start of the half,
01:01:40and a goal at the end of the half.
01:01:43And Celtic are two to the good in this semi-final.
01:01:48As you say, perfect timing, perfect timing,
01:01:51because definitely you can hear the difference in the support,
01:01:54you know, that's massive, because, let me tell you,
01:01:57if they wouldn't have scored that goal there,
01:01:59I don't think they'd be getting cheered off the pitch.
01:02:02Well, a little smile from Ralston as he walks off the pitch.
01:02:08Celtic get the goal, it just calms it all down,
01:02:12Maeda got the goal at the start of the half,
01:02:14pouncing on the mistake from Ryan Mullen,
01:02:16he had then had to be replaced by 17-year-old Grant Tamilsevicius.
01:02:21And Anthony Ralston, after a few scales along the way,
01:02:25gets Celtic 2-0 up as they walk off the pitch here at Hamden.
01:02:30And a beautiful day it is here in Glasgow, Celtic 2-0.
01:02:34Peter, you've made your thoughts quite vocal, but give us your view on it.
01:02:39Masters of their own downfall and I respect it,
01:02:41I thought they'd done ever so well at the start of the game,
01:02:45and you think that's the way they've learnt from last week,
01:02:47they're going to put pressure on the back line,
01:02:48and exactly the start you wanted, put the goalkeeper under pressure,
01:02:51takes an extra touch, Maeda gets everything you expect him to do,
01:02:55and you think, right, they're going to kick on from here.
01:02:57It was the complete opposite.
01:02:59We started to slow the game down, we kept passing the ball back to the halfway line,
01:03:02and sometimes through the final third of the opposition,
01:03:04back to our goalkeeper.
01:03:05It was too slow, he was taking too many touches,
01:03:08he was warned a couple of times,
01:03:09and then gets away with one.
01:03:11You know, I just thought, if we get in at 1-0,
01:03:14you're delighted because St Myrne were growing in the game,
01:03:16the big opportunity,
01:03:17sent us a fantastic save we forget about from Liam Donnelly,
01:03:21but didn't learn the lesson.
01:03:22The next one comes in and we have another opportunity against us.
01:03:25So, St Myrne can find themselves a little bit unlucky,
01:03:28but absolutely delighted, cups are about winning,
01:03:30and games are about winning, and the boys are 2-0 up,
01:03:32and it takes a wee bit of character to keep going.
01:03:34Mel, we're going to take a little break for now here at Hampden Park.
01:03:38Let's go back to yesteryears and see how Celtic have performed
01:03:44in Scottish Cup semi-finals of the past in our recent classic matches.
01:04:22It's a terrific header, but it's a real cheap goal for Hearts to lose.
01:04:29They had the warning a moment ago, and they don't pick it up.
01:04:32It's a good shot.
01:04:33Bellamy.
01:04:36Lennon.
01:04:40Suddenly saw a bit of room.
01:04:42Petrov.
01:04:43Oh, he's turned.
01:04:46It was Hartley who stopped it.
01:04:48Oh!
01:04:49And Hartson, who was within an inch or two, poking in a second for Celtic.
01:04:54Hartley gets very tight, spun completely.
01:04:57Eventually, when it comes in, John Hartson can't quite get anything on it,
01:05:01and it would only have taken a nick.
01:05:03There's plenty of pace on it.
01:05:04It goes under his foot.
01:05:06Celtic one point behind Rangers in the race for the title in Scotland,
01:05:09but of course they have already disposed of their Glasgow rivals in the Scottish Cup
01:05:13in the third round they met.
01:05:14Hartson with the flick.
01:05:16Bellamy!
01:05:17Oh, it's found a way past Greg Gordon,
01:05:20and Craig Bellamy has made it 2-0.
01:05:23Celtic scored at the start of the first half,
01:05:26they've scored at the start of the second.
01:05:29You wouldn't expect Greg Gordon to be beating at his near post here,
01:05:32but he got the shot away very quickly.
01:05:34I just wonder if it takes a nick off a defender here.
01:05:38Hartson does well to win the first ball,
01:05:39comes off Hartley,
01:05:41you'll have to tell from that angle.
01:05:43You wouldn't expect Greg Gordon to be beating at his near post otherwise.
01:05:47I think it takes a nick off Andy Webster's heel there.
01:05:55Stylian Petrov takes the corner, Hartson flung himself.
01:06:01Varga who had the effort.
01:06:03I think he's in a fraction earlier that it ended up behind him.
01:06:08Sutton.
01:06:10Thompson.
01:06:13He's skipped away.
01:06:15Alan Thompson!
01:06:17It's a natural right foot finish here for Alan Thompson.
01:06:20Tries instead to hit it with the outside of his left foot.
01:06:24Hard to get his body rounder, hard to open his body.
01:06:27A terrific run, nevertheless, from Thompson.
01:06:33away by Bobo Bader.
01:06:35Here's McFarlane.
01:06:37Hartley waiting to receive.
01:06:41Chesnowskis.
01:06:42Oh, that's going to go in!
01:06:44What a goal!
01:06:46For Chesnowskis!
01:06:47And Hartz are right back in this Scottish Cup semi-final.
01:06:53It's a good run, it's well spotted.
01:06:55What a delightful win.
01:06:58I don't think there's anything David Marshall can do about that.
01:07:01The height, the weight, the angle, absolutely perfect.
01:07:05Stan Varga thinks he's done his job here.
01:07:07Half a yard's enough for Chesnowskis.
01:07:1060 minutes play, come of the hour, come of the man.
01:07:14Here's Hartz, though.
01:07:16And he goes down, and Stuart Dougal is not interested.
01:07:19This was a big appeal here from Shelton.
01:07:22I think we see John Hartz initially, he's leaning in.
01:07:24I've never been surprised if Stuart Dougal had given that.
01:07:29Chesnowskis.
01:07:32Oh, it's come right across to Webster!
01:07:34And, oh, it was an opportunity for Bircher.
01:07:38Just hold his position there, Webster.
01:07:40Would have been awkward, but he's every right to hit that first time.
01:07:45Scottish Cup semi-finals aren't decided on the day, of course.
01:07:49Maybe this will square after 90 minutes.
01:07:51We'll go to a replay.
01:07:52Petrov picking up that loose ball,
01:07:54and he slides it through here for Sutton, and Bellamy trying to pounce.
01:08:00A slack one from Jamie McAllister.
01:08:02Celian Petrov makes the room, could have hit this with his left foot,
01:08:05tries to find Sutton,
01:08:06and it's Paul Hartley who's back there,
01:08:09with a magnificent challenge.
01:08:15It's over.
01:08:16Celtic are in the Scottish Cup final for the 52nd time.
01:08:21Martin O'Neill's team beaten by Hartley in the league last week.
01:08:26Revenge is sweet,
01:08:27revenge is instant.
01:08:30The character of Bickles on the ball.
01:08:33Alistair Johnson, he's had a chance this afternoon,
01:08:36as he floats up one follow, looking for Maida.
01:08:38Barisic wins the header,
01:08:40Raskin manages to keep that one in play,
01:08:41gives it to Kent, he's immediately challenged by Johnson.
01:08:46O'Reilly,
01:08:51O'Reilly tries towards the edge of the box,
01:08:57tries to get past Raskin,
01:08:59surely obstruction.
01:09:00Maida picks up the loose ball, curls it across,
01:09:02it's a chance,
01:09:03it's a goal!
01:09:04Yes!
01:09:05Jota,
01:09:06he's on the way,
01:09:07he's scored!
01:09:08A wonderful goal from Jota!
01:09:12Celtic thought they should have had a foul,
01:09:14Maida wasn't waiting,
01:09:15he took a touch,
01:09:16he curled it into the box,
01:09:18and there was Jota,
01:09:19he'd switched wings,
01:09:20and once again the Portuguese,
01:09:22he scores with ease,
01:09:24as Celtic leads by a goal to nil.
01:09:25That's an example of Ains Postacoglo's team,
01:09:29we never stopped,
01:09:31we kept going,
01:09:31it was Dyson Maida that kept it alive,
01:09:34we were away for the foul,
01:09:35Dyson didn't,
01:09:36he kept going,
01:09:38as he got an absolutely exquisite cross,
01:09:40Granger switched off,
01:09:41Tavernier,
01:09:42I think was the man marking Jota at the back,
01:09:45did not fall and won the iota,
01:09:47as good as Tavernier,
01:09:48as he's in the last day,
01:09:49as good as Tavernier,
01:09:51as going forward,
01:09:52he's as bad as he is as a defender.
01:09:54Well,
01:09:55the other defender there,
01:09:56that switched off,
01:09:58I'm not sure if that was Manisic,
01:09:59and then Tavernier as well.
01:10:00but Tavernier's marking Jota,
01:10:01he turns around he looks,
01:10:02Curries,
01:10:03follows it on the Jota,
01:10:04and he's in there,
01:10:05we've seen it so many times,
01:10:06that Tavernier,
01:10:07he just switches off,
01:10:08doesn't follow defenders,
01:10:10but Water switched from the manager,
01:10:12Dyson in the right,
01:10:14breaks the assist,
01:10:15Jota on the left.
01:10:19Once again,
01:10:20Manisic will float this one into the box,
01:10:22every Celtic player back,
01:10:23defending,
01:10:24wants scooped to the far post,
01:10:26headed away by Maida,
01:10:28as far as Cantwell,
01:10:29takes a touch,
01:10:30curls it to the far post,
01:10:33and it's knocked off the line,
01:10:35surely a foul there.
01:10:38Well, what has the referee not seen?
01:10:40Celtic player on the line injured,
01:10:42the ball's knocked back,
01:10:43and it's Carter Vickers heads it clear,
01:10:45knocked back into the box,
01:10:47and eventually hit clear by Hattate,
01:10:49and Carter Vickers is supposed to go down,
01:10:51to get treatment there,
01:10:52it certainly looked as if it had been a foul.
01:10:54It looks as though I think it was going to give it,
01:10:56and then stopped for whatever reason,
01:10:59as he took a sovereign on his ankle.
01:11:03Well,
01:11:03I'll say it again,
01:11:04as there was a lot of two and a four inside the box,
01:11:06there was plenty of players offside.
01:11:10Well, that's a foul by Morelis on Cameron and Carter Vickers.
01:11:14It's not that his elbows come in.
01:11:15It actually kicks him.
01:11:17Wait, exactly.
01:11:20The ball switched across to Barisic,
01:11:22immediately closed down by Naida,
01:11:25the ball in the middle of the park,
01:11:27walked onto Arfield,
01:11:29and the Rangers on the right hand side with Sokala,
01:11:31up towards the edge of the area,
01:11:33Sokala into the box,
01:11:34back towards Tavernier,
01:11:36takes a shot,
01:11:36it's off the post,
01:11:37and the ball hits a side netting from Sokala.
01:11:41Well, he did the same thing in the League Cup final,
01:11:43where he missed a really good opportunity,
01:11:45but that was a chance for Rangers.
01:11:47Yeah,
01:11:48I certainly think from Norfolk,
01:11:49as the substitutions are getting taken.
01:11:52Joe Hart had made a really good,
01:11:53quick goal kick to find Jota,
01:11:55but it's going to be a triple change for Celtic here.
01:11:58Jota will be one of the lads coming off,
01:11:59as you say.
01:12:00Well, that's a set-up from Sokala.
01:12:02That was very similar,
01:12:03as you say, to the final.
01:12:06He's got to score that,
01:12:07he has to score that.
01:12:18The ball knocked back to MacGregor,
01:12:20takes a touch,
01:12:22knocks it high in the air.
01:12:25Taylor,
01:12:26wins the header,
01:12:27breaks down as Haksibanovic can just go forward,
01:12:29just go into the corner,
01:12:31still Haksibanovic,
01:12:33still Haksibanovic,
01:12:36to Maeda.
01:12:39It's a shot by Iwata.
01:12:43Maeda,
01:12:43stay down in there indeed.
01:12:44It's the final whistle.
01:12:47And Celtic are in the Scottish Cup final.
01:12:50Jota the hero.
01:12:52Celtic with the 1-0-1 over Rangers.
01:12:56The treble is still on.
01:12:59Celtic one more win away from winning the league,
01:13:02one more win away from winning the cup.
01:13:23Go!
01:13:23Ever since I was young,
01:13:25four or five years old,
01:13:26I was always kicking a ball about,
01:13:28in the back garden.
01:13:29I remember growing up mostly playing with my dad.
01:13:31I used to play one touch, two touch, so I think that's why my touch is so good now that
01:13:36I
01:13:37practiced it a lot of the time.
01:13:38Unfortunately, when I got older, I didn't really have a team.
01:13:42The team folded because there wasn't a lot of girls playing.
01:13:45So I then had to move somewhere else and I made the decision to go and play for 4-4.
01:13:50I'm really privileged to have famous names in my family and I'm just hoping, obviously
01:13:55on the women's side as well, trying to make my own kind of path and obviously not just
01:14:01family but younger girls as well, trying to be a role model.
01:14:04Obviously I had to rely on my mum and dad and stuff to pay for my petrol to get through
01:14:08because I wouldn't be able to afford it.
01:14:10I remember playing against Celtic when I was at Hibs and I loved the way they played.
01:14:13My first day just walking in the stadium, it was kind of surreal to be at a big club like
01:14:17this.
01:14:18I think at the time, in the moment, I didn't realise the historic nature of it.
01:14:22Thinking back, obviously, on social media and stuff, my family and everyone's emotions,
01:14:27I just realised how big a moment it was.
01:14:29What a build-up that is!
01:14:30schwierig.
01:14:30AAAAH is a great one!
01:14:31Hahahaha!
01:14:31... anything better!
