00:00We have just had the National Anthem here at Lambeau Field in Green Bay for the Packers and the Jets.
00:06Kevin Harlan, John Kuhn and Ashley Washburn are with us from our perch and she'll be down on the field moments from now after handling our pregame duties.
00:15And we thank her for that. We have our two coaches, Matt LaFleur in his seventh season and John Aaron Glenn in his first after a four-year stint as the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions.
00:28Yeah, and you got to imagine Matt LaFleur and the staff are happy to see Aaron Glenn here in the preseason, meaning he's not with Detroit Lions anymore.
00:36Both their coordinators have left town. Hopefully that can be a little bit of a catch-up for the Green Bay Packers for the team that has led the division the last two years.
00:45We have been talking with Matt LaFleur since the beginning of camp. Met with him again this morning and he was stressing about how these guys react in every situation.
00:55They've had a lot of hitting in camp, but now you hit a different jersey, a different player, and every situation matters.
01:02And the last few days, if practice is any indication, it's gotten chippy. It's gotten a little bit surly.
01:10These guys are ready to stop hitting themselves and finally hitting somebody with a different colored jersey on.

02:26The quarterback is Jordan Love, and it's first and ten.
02:29And Josh Jenkins is the back.
02:31Fitzpatrick, the tight end, on the move.
02:34It's first and ten against a very good defense.
02:36They jump right there.
02:38And you see the flags that may have been to Phelan on that defensive line for the Jets, who jumped.
02:45A little bit of nerves out of both teams here to start this football game.

02:52You've been hitting your own team over and over and over, and especially for these starters here on both sides.

03:06So now it'll be first and five.
03:08The left tackle tonight is the second-year player in last year's first-round draft choice, Jordan Morgan, with the injury to Rasheed Walker, out with the groin.
03:18First and five, left of the air, and he's got his receiver, but the ball dropped, and it's incomplete.
03:24And they were going for Dobbs.
03:25Dobbs, second down and five, and Sauce Gardner among the couple over there for the Jets secondary.
03:31Yeah, and that's a rare dropout of Ramir Dobbs.
03:33He's been having himself a really nice camp here.
03:35And Jordan Love, just nice three-step drop, puts it right there on the money.

03:39Drops are something that really plagued the Packers last year, something they want to eliminate this year.
03:45Aaron Banks is the new left guard for Green Bay, a high-priced free agent from San Francisco.

03:55Golden, the number one pick was in motion, number 22.
03:59With a handoff right here, and this is Chris Brooks leaving his way, hit by Gardner, picks up four, and shot out to the 27.
04:07Yeah, and Chris Brooks, he is a really interesting running back that the Packers picked up last season.
04:14He just does everything solid.
04:17He can run the football.
04:18He can catch football.
04:18He's great in pass pro.
04:20On third down, you saw right there, hitting Sauce Gardner right at the line of scrimmage.
04:24Uses his leg drive to get a couple extra yards.
04:27That's a really nice start there for Chris Brooks.
04:29And he's terrific in pass protection, too.
04:33He remains in the game.
04:34It's third down and one on the first possession of the game.
04:39And again, led to the air.
04:41Tom, the block, and a pass incomplete.
04:43And Dobbs again through his hands.
04:45Sauce Gardner, a two-time All-Pro cornerback and one of the best cover guys in the league with the coverage.

05:11He's a rookie free agent out of South Alabama.
05:15Daniel Whelan will be punting for Green Bay.

05:24Dan Pritchett will backpedal with that catch at about the 12 for the Jets with a hang time of a little over five seconds.
05:30And then he is brought down on the play, swung around with a nice hit on the special teams by Christian Welch, who is back with the Packers after playing with Baltimore.

05:58They get themselves to a third-and-one, very manageable down in distance, unable to convert that third-and-one.
06:03Now it's the defense's turn.
06:04This is where the defense under Jeff Halfley in year two is looking to put a statement, come out here aggressive, trying to force turnovers.
06:12We'll talk about that a little bit later, but here's our first look at the starting defense.
06:16And Justin Fields is the new quarterback for the Jets and hauling the backfield.
06:20And on first and ten, he gets the call and he was grabbed by Van Ness.
06:24Slowed down there, gets to the 24-yard line on a gain of three.
06:29McDuffie getting, and he's having a good camp, also a hand on the tackle.
06:33McDuffie is just a guy, and if we get the replay here, you'll see him just shoot the gap to make this thing.
06:37He's a guy that, you talked about, started out on special teams, earned his starting strikes,
06:42and now he's one of the bona fide leaders of the defense at a very strong inside linebacker crew.
06:49Running back remains Brees Hall.
06:52Justin Fields, last year a starter early in the season with the Pittsburgh Steelers,
06:55taking the place of Aaron Rodgers as the Jets starter.
06:58Second down seven, Hall again, hit once.
07:02McDuffie was in there again, looked like Devontae Wyatt got a hand on him with a gain of two.
07:07The Jets 26.
07:09Yeah, this is exactly what training campers look like.
07:12This defensive line, this defensive front, they have come out here,
07:16and they have been ready to hit and fill gaps.
07:19And some of that is in year two of this system.
07:23They now know exactly the gaps that they have to fit,
07:26so they can work on the little details on getting off those blocks
07:29and getting into the tackles, setting up 35 here.

08:27You know, we talked with Matt before about no Hobbs, no McKinney,
08:30and always trying to spin things into a good situation.
08:35And he said there's going to be a lot of opportunity for guys like, you know,
08:39Kaelin King, Michael Robinson, Carrington Valentine to step up
08:44and earn a spot on this team and earn some playing time as well.

09:06That time Beck just took it across the middle of the field
09:09and sat it down in the middle of the zone right in front of Justin Fields.
09:12And you can see Edgling Cooper over here slip a little bit
09:15as he's trying to react to the eyes there of Justin Fields.
09:18But too late there.
09:19Beck gets the first down.
09:21Allen remains the running back.
09:24And Fields under center with the first and ten.
09:29On their first possession after the Green Bay putt.
09:31Oh, it's a big hole at the middle for Allen.
09:33And he's into the secondary and eventually brought down on the play by Bullard.
09:38A burst of 15 for the former Badger to the 42 of Green Bay.

09:44Somebody between Bullard and Kingsley and Ekbari need to get in there and fill that gap.
09:50That comes down to playing together, getting more reps,
09:53knowing what you need to do.
09:54And now the Packers have a man down on the field.
09:56It looks like Zane Anderson.

09:58And Anderson has taken McKinley's place.
10:02In the McKinney's place in the secondary.
10:04And Xavier is out with the injury.
10:07So with a stop and play, we step aside on the Packers television network.

10:42And how about Beck just coming across, looking for protection, doesn't have anybody to block.

10:52Once again, the Jets looking to take advantage of holes in the middle of the field against this Packers defense.
10:58Bullard and Williams are the two safeties.
11:00Anderson has gone with the injury.

11:05With the offset eye and a handoff goes here to the running back Hall.
11:11Inside the 15.
11:13And a gain of three with Clark making the stop.
11:16And John, now he has moved to nose tackle after the last three years of defensive tackle.
11:21Yeah, and listen, Kenny Clark's that now old, wily bet.
11:25And I can't believe I'm saying that about Kenny Clark, but he is.
11:28He's one of the old men in that defensive room.
11:31And he's going out there to show at this age.
11:33He had a down year last year.
11:35He thought it was because of an ankle injury that he had to have fixed in the offseason.
11:39And he feels like he's finally back to 100%.
11:41Three of four through the airfield.

11:44Chaston on the fly and out of bounds.
11:46McDuffie was making sure he was out of bounds with Javon Bullard.
11:50He runs for two, and he does that well.
11:52And that's primarily what he did for the three years with Chicago and last year with Pittsburgh.
11:58Third and five coming up for the Jets.
12:00Yeah, the Packers know very well what Justin Fields can do with his legs.
12:03He had done that for some time down there in Chicago.
12:06I liked what Javon Bullard did at the sideline.
12:09He drove the Jet receiver back into Justin Fields to make this a third and five and not a third and one, third and two.
12:16Running back is Isaiah Davis.
12:19Third down and five.
12:21Drive started back at the 22 of the Jets.
12:25Fields.
12:26Fashino a block.
12:27Crumbling pocket.
12:28Gets away on the move.
12:30And room to go.
12:31And he's got it.

12:33Justin Fields runs for 13 yards on the first possession for the Jets.
12:38And puts the first numbers on the board here in Lambeau.
12:41The Packers get good pressure inside with a TT stunt, but sometimes it's just don't panic, don't go too fast, don't try and make such a splash play.
12:51You've got to really keep a guy with legs like Justin Fields in the pocket.
12:55Keyshawn Nixon comes up, but you can see what Justin Fields brings to the quarterback position, that element of run.
13:02And when I say run, Kevin, he runs like a running back.
13:05Fields has had the third most rushing yards by a quarterback in their first four seasons in NFL history.
13:14He is something else.
13:16Here's the extra point.
13:18And Falk puts it through.
13:20And the Jets on top, 7-0.
13:22It was a good-looking drive.
13:24Fields through the air, 42 yards.
13:26And then capping it off with a 13-yard rushing touchdown.

13:33And a good way to start for head coach Aaron Glenn, who was drafted in the first round by the Jets
13:57and played for New York for eight years.
14:00Yeah, and if the last four years are any indication, he's going to try and bring that Detroit mindset to New York.
14:07That physical, punishing, never-relenting defense, offense, special teams.
14:14He wants to bring that approach.
14:15He played like that.
14:16He coaches like that.
14:18Mavis, the kickoff.
14:19Ballantyne and Abani Konda are back.
14:22And here's another return by Green Bay.
14:24And the former Jets fifth-round pick is brought down on the play and hit by Stiggers.
14:30It's a return of 24 yards.
14:33And the Packers will have it again for the second time.

14:37Love is still in there.
14:38This Packer offense a year ago, John Kuhn.
14:41Number eight in points scored.
14:43Number five in total yards.
14:45Number five yards on the ground.
14:47Yeah, and they had to really recreate themselves when Jordan Love went down early in the season.
14:51And they did just that with Malik Willis and the run game.
14:54And that paid benefits down the line when Jordan Love did come back.
14:58And they feel like with Jordan Love healthy and that run game going into this year,
15:02they can be really explosive.

15:09And you can see the collision inside.

15:26Listen, both these teams, they're ready to hit somebody else, but you got to do it within the rules.
15:32We saw an ejection last night between Carolina and Cleveland.
15:36And now we're looking at if there were punches thrown, somebody's going to be ejected out of this one as well.
15:41So the Packers have worked a little bit with some changes on their line.

18:04Not only is he a burner and runs great routes,
18:06but he's got some of the strongest hands I've seen out of a rookie.
18:09Ryan Gutekunst, the general manager of the Packers, said he had the best hands in the draft.

18:26And he goes outside and brought down by Jamie and Sherwood, the Jets' MVP last season.

18:36A couple of tight ends, in fact, seeing the corner right there.
18:39And that's what I mean by Chris Brooks.
18:42Doesn't look super flashy.
18:44Doesn't look crazy.
18:44But look at the production that he makes out of that play.
18:47The Jets' defense had that thing pretty well sniffed out.
18:51But he read the blocks.
18:52He fit into the gap that he was supposed to fit in and got himself a positive game.

18:58And Love going deep and a little high.
19:01And incomplete.
19:02And going for Musgrave.
19:04The tight end with terrific coverage along the way.
19:08Linebackers in the secondary combining.

19:13Musgrave, another one of those Packers,
19:15trying to bounce back from injuries last season.
19:17And he's a guy that can really stretch the football field.
19:21And with him and his speed and Tucker Craft
19:23and his all-around ability at the tight end position,
19:26they can use that to the middle of the field
19:29to really, really be able to use the play-action game.
19:32I'm excited now that both those tight ends are healthy
19:35and ready to go into this season.
19:36Well, you talk about Musgrave trying to stay healthy.
19:38He's only played in 18 of a possible 34 games.
19:42Third and six.
19:43And a quick throw incomplete looking for golden coverage by Gardner.
19:48And a flag is thrown where that ball was lasered in by Love.
19:55Yeah, they're going to get sauce Gardner here
19:56being a little bit too early on this play there.

20:10One of the best I ever played against, Kevin Richard Sherman, said,

20:16and I'm going to keep playing that way.
20:18They're not going to get me out of putting my hands on the wide receiver
20:20because they're not going to call penalty every play.
20:22And you know what?
20:23You get away with some, but sometimes they catch you too.
20:26Sauce Gardner has had the highest pro football focus rating
20:30of every quarterback in the NFL since 2022.
20:34It's Brooks on first and ten.
20:36Off the middle he goes and picks up about four with Sherwood at the bottom of the pile
20:43and others, and Gardner was right there.
20:45Sauce Gardner, defensive rookie of the year when he came in the league,
20:49a fourth-year player, makes the stop
20:51and certainly is the headliner of this defense.
20:54Yeah, and they have some headliners on that team.

20:57Garrett Wilson himself and Brees Hall,
20:59and now Justin Fields goes over there to give them a different dynamic
21:02at the quarterback position.
21:03This Jets team is one that really did not have a whole lot of success
21:08after the Aaron Rodgers trade.
21:09They're looking to try and change their entire identity.

21:20It is a gain of two, making it third down and four.
21:25New defensive coordinator, too, for the New York Jets is Steve Wilks,

21:33He's been around the league for a long time.

22:15And Matt LaFleur told us earlier today when we talked with him,
22:18this is a salty bunch.
22:19And he was happy that they were going to get a look at this salty bunch
22:23coming into this preseason game one.
22:25He also told us that he warned the quarterbacks, get down.
22:28I'm sure he's not happy about Jordan Love taking that hit.

25:32Bo Melton might be the best story on his Packers team in the preseason,
25:37switching from wide receiver to cornerback.
25:39And he is the ultimate competitor, Matt LaFleur says.
25:43Says athleticism and his skill set translated to playing corner.
25:47And it might just get him on the roster,
25:49the fact that he can play both positions
25:51and he's one of their best special teams.
25:53It's third down and one and Davis tries to carve his way
26:00and does successfully for a first down and a gain of a couple.

26:08And he makes the move.
26:09He averaged 5.8 yards per carry last year.
26:13He didn't carry it that much,
