00:00We are back in Atlanta Falcons
00:05are three up and three down.
00:08They're led by head coach Raheem
00:10Morris with a nice conversation
00:12with the second year Falcon
00:13coach earlier this week.
00:16Yeah and when you talk about the
00:17development of what's going in
00:18this game as we take a look at
00:19Mike McDaniel here interesting
00:22the Dolphins winning the coin
00:24toss Kevin and electing to take
00:26the ball first.
00:28Which I know a lot of coaches
00:30defer to try and get that double
00:32dip at the end of the half but
00:34Mike McDaniel looking to come out
00:37here offensively and attack.
00:39Bradley Pinion has the ball teed up
00:41for the Falcons deep back
00:43Washington and Eskridge and this
00:45will be Dee Eskridge who takes it
00:48up for Miami and Povoltz's way out
00:51near the 35.
00:53Before our kickoff today our
00:55reporter Melanie Collins caught up
00:57with Falcon running back Bajon
00:59Robinson.
01:00Well Bajon with the news that
01:02Kirk Cousins will be your starting
01:03quarterback today what did you see
01:04from him in practice this week and
01:06what are you expecting from out on
01:07the field today?
01:08He was just extremely locked in.
01:09You know obviously Kirk been in the
01:10league for a long time now so this
01:12is nothing new for him and you know
01:14he got in there and he made sure
01:15everybody was known that you know
01:17he's coming in to do his job the
01:18right way and to do it at a hard and
01:19high level so I'm really excited for
01:21him today.
01:21Number four in rushing yards we'll
01:25see him momentarily and here comes
01:26Tua with the visor the puffy eye and
01:30a first and ten.
01:31A-Chan in motion to the air with
01:33pressure right off the bat.
01:34Anya Mata was there and it was
01:37intended for A-Chan.
01:38Was he inbounds?
01:40And no incomplete on the chalk with
01:43the coverage on the play by J.D.
01:45Bertrand who's taken the place of
01:47the injured divine Diablo.
01:49Well good effort here by A-Chan to
01:51try and climb the ladder and come
01:52up with this catch but you can see
01:53landing out of bounds.
01:56You mentioned Anya Mata was the
01:58one giving pressure right up the
01:59middle to a throwing that ball a
02:02little earlier than he had wanted
02:03to.
02:05Good pressure off that initial play
02:06and this defense likes to get after
02:08it up front.
02:08Tua coming off the worst game of
02:11his career statistically he has a
02:13second down in ten.
02:15And A-Chan.
02:16Into the throws of that defense and
02:20brought down by one of the top
02:21tacklers in the NFL in Caden Ellis
02:23who makes the stop right there.
02:26So today Tua Tunga-Vailoa is going
02:29to go up against one of the best
02:30pass defenses in the NFL.
02:33Well it is the best pass defense and
02:34that's what makes it hard.
02:35You see his completion percentage over
02:38the last couple of seasons but dealing
02:40with the visor and a swollen left eye
02:42today and dealing with the best pass
02:44defense in the NFL and you have
02:46yourself on this first series set up
02:47at third and long making it difficult
02:49right out of the start.
02:51In the nickel third and nine.
02:56And here they come six man rush and
02:59down he goes.
03:01And Ellis led the brigade for the
03:03Falcons.
03:03The number two defense in the NFL.
03:06They lose eight and they're back to the
03:0827.
03:09The putting unit is on the field for the
03:11fans.
03:13We'll keep an eye.
03:13It's going to be coming off the slot
03:14here.
03:15He's going right through.
03:17He'll be working his way right through.
03:20Nobody touches him as he blitzes off the
03:22slot.
03:22You see the turn back.
03:23You either got to get rid of the ball or slide
03:27the protection over there.
03:29Jake Bailey will punt.
03:30Jamal Agnew is back and into the roof.
03:33He looks from the 21 with a great hang time
03:35of five to seven.
03:37Then brought down on the play by Cameron
03:39Good who leaves the Dolphins in special
03:44teams tackle.
03:45All right.
03:46This takes us to Kirk Cousins who starts
03:51today at quarterback because of the deep
03:53bone bruise on his left knee.
03:55First starter Michael Pennix.
03:56We see the numbers over his 14 year career
03:58and getting an opportunity here last year.
04:01We talked about it in the open still
04:03recovering from that Achilles injury.
04:05I talked to him in pregame and he said
04:07how we worked all offseason to break up
04:09some of that scar tissue to get better
04:10range of motion in that ankle.
04:12Werner in motion.
04:14First and ten for Cousins.
04:17Mooney is on the move.
04:20Bajon Robinson will get the call.
04:22Chubb is the one to slow him down
04:24right off the bat.
04:25And a gain of the yard.
04:26Second down and nine.
04:34So we take a look and this running game
04:36is going to be absolutely huge as it
04:38always is.
04:39But no Drake London today.
04:40Yeah, that was a big story here at the
04:43beginning of this game.
04:44Their leading receiver.
04:4663% of the receptions to wide receivers
04:49go to Drake London.
04:51So no Drake London and we'll see how you
04:53utilize Kyle Pitts and Bajon Robinson
04:55in the pass game.
04:56Padilla Hodge is starting.
04:57There's a quick tackle made by Jordan
04:59Brooks.
05:00Leads the league in tackles.
05:01Boy, he went flying through and brings
05:03down Robinson.
05:05And they stay at about the 32 yard line
05:07where it'll be third down and nine.
05:09Well, talking to defensive court
05:11coordinator Anthony Weaver, he said,
05:13listen, our defense, even though we're
05:14last in the NFL in run defense,
05:16it's been the big plays.
05:18We've got to be able to eliminate the
05:20big plays.
05:20You see these first two run attempts by
05:22the Falcons have gone nowhere as this
05:25game progresses.
05:25He said the important thing is wrapping
05:27up, getting tackles, but then making
05:29sure they don't give up that big run.
05:31Offensive liners have the same five
05:33starters each game for Atlanta.
05:35Third down and nine.
05:39It's clean.
05:40And here we go.
05:41And Cousins to the air.
05:42Here comes Phillips.
05:43Passes out.
05:44Caught over there by Pitts.
05:46He's going to be shy of the first down.
05:47Terrific swarming defense.
05:49Led on the play by Jack Jones,
05:51the cornerback.
05:52He brings down the tight end of Atlanta.
05:55A gain of five.
05:56It's fourth and four.
05:57Here comes the punting unit.
05:59Well, four guys rushing from the left side
06:01and they run a stunt there to get free.
06:04Phillips works to the outside.
06:05So Cousins has to get rid of that ball
06:08quickly out to the flat before taking a
06:10big hit.
06:11And then it's a matter of rally tackling
06:12as Jones comes up with the wrap up to
06:14bring Pitts down.
06:15Bradley Pinion will be putting for Atlanta
06:17and deep back for the Dolphins is Malik
06:21Washington.
06:22He's got a punt return touchdown this
06:24season already in September against the
06:27Patriots.
06:2774 yards.
06:28Low long snap right there from McCullough.
06:32And here is the punt,
06:33which they're going to let bounce
06:34and go out of bounds.
06:37So each team has had it once.
06:39Each team has punted.
06:41And we'll get a second look at Tua Tungle-Vailoa,
06:44a quarterback for Miami on CBS.
06:50The NFL on CBS is sponsored by Lowe's.
06:55Tungle-Vailoa, tackle your to-do list early with Lowe's
06:58to earn your Sunday.
07:01McDonald's.
07:05And by FanDuel, play your game.
07:13Second possession coming up from Miami and
07:15Trent, they did not score any touchdowns last
07:17week at Cleveland.
07:19Yeah, this offense has had their struggles this
07:21season.
07:21It starts with the quarterback, Tua having to be
07:23more productive.
07:24The first series was three and out.
07:26Try and get some first downs, get the ball moving
07:27here on this series.
07:28Ollie Gordon is the back.
07:30It's first and ten, Tua to the air.
07:32There's time and there's an open receiver.
07:34And he's got Malik Washington, who will dance
07:37into that secondary and is whacked out of play by
07:39JT Bertrand, who makes the stop.
07:42It's an 18-yard pickup and a good one for the
07:45Finns out to the 38.
07:47Well, Washington's the one coming in motion and they
07:49just lose him on the outside with the fake run to the
07:53right and the bootleg out to the left by Tua.
07:56Defense just loses Washington over on the boundary and
07:59he's able to pick up the first down.
08:00This is the number one pass defense, Trent, in the NFL
08:03of Atlanta.
08:05Well, and we saw from that first series, they're going to
08:07get some pressure on Tua.
08:09They were able to get some interior pressure, which makes
08:11it hard on quarterbacks, nowhere to go.
08:13First and ten, Ollie Gordon, who is the rookie out of
08:18Oklahoma State, drilled in the middle as he goes right
08:21into the grasp of Sam Roberts.
08:23Gain of one to the 39.
08:26And you're going to be watching that secondary against
08:28Waddle and the receivers for the Dolphins today.
08:31Well, you just brought up that number one pass defense,
08:34and so Jalen Waddle's got to be a big part of this.
08:37Tyreek Hill got injured in week number four.
08:39No Darren Waller.
08:40He went on IR.
08:40No Julian Hill today.
08:42He was inactive before the start of the game, so some
08:45limited weapons for Tua Tonga-Vailoa.
08:47Look for Washington to be a big part of it, as he was just
08:50a second ago.
08:50Jalen Wright is the running back.
08:53A-chan was in motion.
08:54Second down and nine.
08:56And this is Wright, who goes into the grasp of Bertrand
09:00again and brought down at the 46, a couple yards shy of the
09:04first.
09:04He picks up eight.
09:06Wright had not had any carries over the last three games.
09:10For Miami.
09:11Well, it's interesting.
09:12You bring up Wright.
09:13You just talked about Gordon a couple of plays ago.
09:16And, of course, Devon A-chan is their workhorse.
09:19So, already getting some rotation, getting touches to more guys,
09:22trying to keep guys fresh as this game progresses.
09:24This is the number 21 defense in the NFL with defensive coordinator
09:29Jeff Ulbrich with the Falcons.
09:33It's third and two.
09:35And Gordon McCall got the first down.
09:38Almost lost it.
09:39Retrieves it.
09:39Nice block by right guard Cole Strange.
09:42They move the chains.
09:44They get the first.
09:44They're shy of the 50 on a gain of four on third and two.
09:47This was an area they had struggled in previous seasons.
09:5564 is eligible here on this next play.
09:59Run skill.
10:00But third and short was an area they had problems with in previous years
10:04on those short yardage runs.
10:05That time able to get a conversion right around midfield.
10:07H.N. back in there first and ten.
10:15Two into the air.
10:16Good cup.
10:19And...
10:19Oh, dropped by Waddle.
10:21There's a flag.
10:22Coverage by Hughes.
10:27Well, they're going to get Hughes with defensive pass interference.
10:29I almost thought it was holding before the ball went in the air
10:32because Waddle was trying to get to the outside on a corner route
10:34and it looked like Hughes had him wrapped up.
10:36Pass interference.
10:38Defense number 21.
10:40The ball he placed at spot of the foul.
10:43Automatic.
10:43First down.
10:48Watch as he goes up the field.
10:49He tries to get outside and Hughes just puts his arms around him.
10:58Of course, you're allowed your space.
11:00Like, if you're there, you can't run through.
11:02Right?
11:02You've established that position.
11:04The difference was is that he wrapped both arms around him
11:06and I think that's what drew the attention of the officials in the flag.
11:10Right is the back.
11:12Second possession with H.N. in motion.
11:16It's first and ten.
11:17There's a flag and the quick throw
11:19and grabbed on the play by Nick Westbrook-Akine,
11:25the former Tennessee Titan.
11:28Another flag is thrown.
11:29John Hussey is our referee in Atlanta.
11:33Illegal formation.
11:34Offense number 79.
11:37Five-yard penalty.
11:38First down.
11:39Starting right tackle, Larry Borum.
11:41Well, Borum must have been off the ball.
11:43When you look at the alignment
11:44and where the receivers were in that bunch formation,
11:46that's a really early call.
11:49You see him lined up right here.
11:53They must have felt he was too far in the back.
11:55But look how close.
11:55Right.
11:56That receiver is off the ball.
12:00A lot of times the officials give a warning for that,
12:02tell them to scoot up.
12:03But early call against the Dolphins.
12:05Last week, they had 11 penalties on this offense.
12:09At Cleveland, over 100 yards a penalty.
12:12Look at H.N.
12:13Busting free and into the secondary.
12:16And brought down by D. Alford.
12:19A run inside the 25, a burst right there of 11 yards.
12:23It's second down and four.
12:25H.N. and Robinson will be keeping our eyes
12:28on these two running backs this afternoon.
12:31Well, Kevin, you and I were talking about H.N.
12:32and this is his third year in the NFL.
12:34Remember that first year where he kind of popped on the scene
12:37with a bunch of big plays, both in the screen game
12:39and in the running game.
12:41He's got tremendous speed.
12:42We've already seen a rotation of backs.
12:4673% of his team's rushing yards this season.
12:49Second down and four.
12:53In golden motion.
12:54H.N. gets the call.
12:56And tries to carve his way in there
12:58before he's brought down by Onyamana
13:00on that defensive line.
13:02H.N. last week had bursts of 46 and 23 yards in Cleveland
13:08on his way to a 13-carry and 82-yard game for Miami.
13:17Well, Brunskill back in with that extra offensive line.
13:21They just announced him eligible.
13:22Where this offensive line has lost some important players
13:27like James Daniels and Austin Jackson is out.
13:30You mentioned Waller moments ago.
13:32The tight end is out.
13:34Gordon back in.
13:35The Doak Walker winner in college football a year ago.
13:39Third and one.
13:40He has a first down.
13:41Backing his way inside the 17.
13:44Becks up four.
13:45Yeah, Ollie Gordon was the number one running back
13:48in college football in terms of awards.
13:51The Doak Walker winner comes through right there,
13:53gets the first down,
13:54and the drive continues for Miami.
13:56Well, I like how this game started off with Miami
13:58in terms of the way they're rotating their backs.
14:01Biggit's your Gordon gets enough touches
14:03and keeping H.N. explosive.
14:06He won the Doak Walker Award
14:08and the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year Award
14:11back in 2023.
14:14H.N. back in.
14:15Good-looking drive.
14:16Began back at the Finns 21.
14:18It's first and 10.
14:20H.N.
14:20Engel with the block.
14:21H.N. cuts.
14:22Drives, and he's down to the 10.
14:25Here they go.
14:26Bertrand again with a stop.
14:27He picks up seven right there,
14:29so they're running the ball and running it well.
14:31Well, how about the fact that they've only had
14:32two pass attempts and eight running plays?
14:38They came in with a specific game plan in mind,
14:42and right now we've already seen them
14:44with extra offensive linemen on a couple of downs
14:46and rotating the running backs.
14:47This time, Engel with the block out in space
14:50and A.T.M. able to get close to another first down.
14:54Engel is out right now.
14:57Second down three.
15:00Gordon is the back.
15:03And two into the air.
15:04And dropped.
15:06Right there.
15:08For Westbrook, Akine,
15:10who's only got seven catches this season,
15:12but with all the injuries at receiver
15:14and now tied in,
15:15they need him to catch those balls.
15:17He's had a pretty good contract as well.
15:19Well, that ball's out in a hurry,
15:21and it gets right on top of him.
15:22It hits him in the face.
15:24That's just a timing throw,
15:25and Tua hit that back foot
15:27and put it with anticipation.
15:31Westbrook, Akine, not ready for it
15:33as it bounced off his face, man.
15:34So, Malik Washington caught one for 18.
15:37There was a penalty on Waddell.
15:39A-chan runs of 11-7.
15:42Third down and three.
15:44Tua and the gun.
15:45Gordon gets the call.
15:47Banging, driving, lunging, and short.
15:49By about a half yard on the play,
15:52he thinks he's got it,
15:53that the official says differently.
15:55So now it'll be fourth and one.
15:57Hey, you're one and six.
15:58What do you think?
15:59You're on the road.
15:59You haven't won on the road.
16:00I think you're going to go for it
16:01as we see him extend.
16:03Watch out, Gordon reaches this out
16:04to try and get it.
16:05Yeah, the elbow comes down
16:10and it's about a half yard short.
16:11Remember, Ingle's out.
16:12He had the shoulder injury
16:13just two plays ago.
16:16That's why we saw Hayden Rucci.
16:18They just moved up
16:19from the practice squad.
16:20He was in there
16:21almost in that fullback-type position.
16:25Gordon is in.
16:26Fourth and one.
16:27Second drive.
16:29Washington on the move.
16:30Tua.
16:30Gordon.
16:31Got it.
16:32Oh, he did.
16:33And then they drove him back.
16:34Mike Hughes is the one to get him.
16:37Did his progress.
16:38Oh, they're going to get him
16:38the first down.
16:40The forward progress
16:42wins it right there
16:42for a hard-charging rookie,
16:45Ollie Gordon.
16:46Well, your initial gut reaction,
16:47Kevin, was right
16:48because it's his first first.
16:49Watch where the ball is
16:50and where the first down marker is.
16:52The official on the near side
16:54or where this camera is
16:55saw that the ball had gotten
16:57to the seven-yard line.
17:00Number 64 is reported as eligible.
17:02Number 64.
17:03And he's the one that spotted
17:04the football and saw
17:05the forward progress
17:07as we see
17:07Raheem Morris
17:08deciding if he's going to
17:10challenge or not.
17:13There he goes.
17:14He will challenge.
17:18He knows Miami
17:19is awful good, too.
17:20Ten touchdowns
17:21and ten first-and-goal situations
17:22this year.
17:26Look at Mike McDaniel
17:27coming up with a nice way,
17:29dialing up a good script
17:31to get this game underway
17:32and the affable
17:33Raheem Morris.
17:34Atlanta is challenging
17:35the ruling on the field
17:36that the runner
17:37did not make
17:38the line to game.
17:41Well, Kevin,
17:41based on the spot
17:42or based on the angle
17:43that we saw
17:44right down the line
17:45of scrimmage,
17:45it's going to be
17:45hard to overturn this.
17:49Atlanta the challenge.
17:51Did he or did he not
17:52get that first down?
17:53There, he's across.
17:54Here we are back in Atlanta
18:01and the challenge
18:02was not overturned,
18:04so the first down
18:05goes to the Miami Dolphins.
18:07Forward progress,
18:08when you look down
18:09the line of scrimmage,
18:10kind of that angle
18:10we showed initially
18:12was right to the
18:13seven-yard line,
18:14which is enough
18:14to get the first down.
18:16So, lost time out
18:18and lost challenge
18:19for the Falcons.
18:20They've called
18:20a medical time out
18:21an observer
18:22in the press box
18:24has requested it
18:28as we watch this again.
18:31And Gordon,
18:37they've radioed down.
18:38Who needs to leave?
18:44And it was Engel.
18:48Well, he was out
18:49with a shoulder
18:49a couple of plays ago.
18:50Yeah, he was.
18:51But any time
18:57it's called down
18:58from above,
18:59you automatically
19:00have to go get
19:01an evaluation
19:01in the blue 10.
19:03So, he'll be
19:04going there.
19:06Tongo Vailoa
19:07has won a drive
19:08that began back.
19:09It is 21.
19:10And Tua has not
19:10thrown a first-quarter
19:12touchdown pass
19:13in 12 games,
19:14but they're running
19:15the ball so well
19:15right now.
19:17Gordon,
19:17Ajan back there.
19:19It's first and goal
19:20at the seven
19:21for Miami.
19:24Conor in motion,
19:25Ajan.
19:25Patrick Paul with a block.
19:28And he tried this up
19:29Marine.
19:30Wheeling outside,
19:32hit by Alford.
19:33Got as far as the three.
19:35Second down and goal
19:37on the gain of four.
19:38But watch as they get
19:41out in space.
19:42And if they're able
19:42to maintain their blocks,
19:44right there,
19:45Waddle,
19:46if he was able
19:46to maintain that block,
19:48he's going to be able
19:48to cut it up,
19:49but not wanting
19:51to get a holding call.
19:52Released Alford,
19:57so he's the one
19:57that ends up coming up
19:58and making the tackle.
19:59Ajan will be wide.
20:01Gordon is the back.
20:03Second down and goal.
20:05Gordon has had
20:06a couple runs
20:06to get first down
20:07and a third down.
20:09First down run
20:10and back to pass Tua.
20:11And here he goes.
20:12That's a touchdown.
20:14Caught by Ajan
20:15and the first touchdown pass
20:17thrown by Tua Tungo-Vailoa
20:19in a long time
20:21in the first quarter
20:22in first and 13 games.
20:25And Miami is up 6-0
20:27on a drive that began
20:29back at the Dolphin 21.
20:31Well, first he's going to
20:32he's going to miss this
20:33out to the flat.
20:34He has a chance
20:34to get a touchdown
20:35right to the flat
20:36to Gordon.
20:37But the Ajan
20:38with that scissors
20:38out of the backfield
20:39causes confusion
20:40in coverage.
20:44Easy pitch and catch.
20:46And as you said,
20:46Kevin,
20:46that's a first
20:48first quarter
20:49touchdown pass
20:51on the season
20:52for Tua.
20:53Extra point here
20:54is away
20:55and it is good
20:56by Riley Patterson.
20:58Ajan has got
20:59his fourth touchdown
21:00reception of the season.
21:02None better than him
21:03except for Robinson
21:05in catching balls
21:06out of the backfield
21:07and he just caught
21:08a three-yard touchdown pass.
21:09Take it to the house.
21:10Slipping spot.
21:12The NFL on CBS
21:15is sponsored by
21:17Chili's 3 for Me.
21:18The best $10.99
21:20you can eat.
21:22And by Verizon.
21:24The best 5G network.
21:26There's only one best.
21:27Dolphins on their second possession
21:34a 79-yard drive.
21:37Ajan got a three-yard touchdown
21:38pass from Tua.
21:40That drive took
21:41eight and a half minutes
21:42and Ajan had a couple
21:45of nice runs
21:45of 11 and 7.
21:47Gordon two runs
21:47to get first down
21:49on third down
21:50and here is the kickoff
21:51and this will be taken
21:52by Agnew
21:53and lunging for him
21:55and bringing him down
21:56was Westbrook Akine
21:58on a 20-yard return.
22:01Here's our first trip
22:02to CDFs of New York
22:03and Adam Schein.
22:05Kevin Trentz.
22:06This is not a drill.
22:08We have a Joe Flacco
22:09rushing touchdown.
22:12His first since 2017.
22:1410-0 Bengals
22:15leading the Jets.
22:16Back to you.
22:16The former Jets quarterback
22:19along with other teams.
22:22How about him
22:22coming off a big game
22:23last week?
22:24Yep.
22:25Getting him up
22:25to a 10-point lead.
22:27He had a run last week
22:28too in that Pittsburgh win.
22:29First down and 10.
22:31Kirk Cousins
22:32to the air.
22:34Time
22:34and the throw
22:35right on the money
22:36and it's caught downfield
22:38by the tight end
22:39Kyle Pitts.
22:40And he's down
22:41to the 45
22:41on a 24-yard pickup
22:43through the air.
22:44Cousins to Pitts.
22:46First down Atlanta.
22:46Great job by Pitts
22:49as he's going to work
22:50across the field.
22:53Good spot
22:54by Cousins
22:55getting it right
22:55between the zone.
22:58I think it Fitzpatrick
23:00was down there
23:00to make the stop.
23:07Cousins has started
23:082-2.
23:10And he's got a
23:11first and 10
23:11with Bajon Robinson
23:13in the backfield
23:14and Pitts on the move.
23:15One been injured
23:16and active.
23:17It's Pitts.
23:19And he is cracked
23:19out of bounds.
23:21As Mel,
23:22he was running
23:22into Phillips
23:23on the near sideline.
23:24Dana 6.
23:24Yeah,
23:25I kept Drake London
23:25out today with a hip injury.
23:27I caught up with him
23:27pregame and he was
23:28disappointed he wasn't
23:29going to be able
23:29to go today.
23:30He told me the hip
23:30flared up on him
23:31this week and got
23:32progressively worse
23:33late in the week.
23:33He just couldn't get
23:34his body feeling
23:35well enough to go today.
23:36The coaches challenged
23:37him to be the mindset
23:38guy for the whole team
23:39today.
23:39So he'll be providing
23:40plenty of support
23:41and leadership
23:41from the sideline.
23:42And we'll see how
23:43Mooney and Sills
23:44can step up
23:44in the receiving
23:45game today.
23:45Exactly, yeah.
23:46He led Atlanta
23:47in receiving
23:48three consecutive
23:49seasons.
23:50Second down
23:50for Robinson
23:51tries to find
23:52a crack
23:53and then he's
23:53brought down
23:54by Tyrell
23:55Dachshund.
23:56Linebacker coming
23:57through limiting
23:58Robinson to a gain
23:59of one down to the
24:0037.
24:01Well, you guys
24:01brought up Darnell
24:02Mooney and really
24:03he's been dealing
24:04with a shoulder
24:05injury that he
24:05suffered back in
24:06training camp.
24:08That's who they're
24:08going to lean on
24:09today with no
24:10Drake London.
24:12Obviously, Kyle
24:12Pitts and Bajon
24:13Robinson catching
24:14the ball out of
24:15the backfield.
24:15But talking to
24:16Zach Robinson before
24:17the game, he felt
24:18that Mooney is as
24:19healthy as he's been
24:20all year.
24:22Robinson, the
24:22offensive coordinator,
24:23Zach Robinson, that
24:25is.
24:26Bajon is in the
24:27backfield on a
24:28third and three for
24:29Cousins.
24:30He gets the block
24:31from Wilkinson.
24:32Here comes the rush
24:33from Phillips and he
24:34throws it away.
24:36Nice pressure applied
24:37by the Miami
24:38Dolphins and that
24:39came from every
24:40angle and led by
24:42Jalen Phillips who
24:44busts it free.
24:45It's fourth down.
24:46The offense will
24:46stay on the field
24:47for the Falcons.
24:49Well, and Phillips
24:49you could see was
24:50just wasn't rushing.
24:51He was just almost
24:52like a spy.
24:53And as soon as he
24:55sees Cousin flush out
24:56of the pocket, he
24:57takes off and forces
24:59Kirk to get rid of
25:00the ball as they're
25:00going for it here on
25:01fourth down.
25:05Algier is the
25:06running back.
25:09Kirk Cousins,
25:10fourth down and
25:10three.
25:11Keep an eye on
25:12Kyle Pitts right
25:13there in the slot.
25:16To the air,
25:17Wilkinson, the block
25:18and the short pass.
25:20Algier and he
25:21leans in for the
25:22first down.
25:23Fitzpatrick
25:24trying to hold on.
25:25He lunges ahead
25:26down to the
25:27Miami 34.
25:29It's a pickup
25:30of four, Trent,
25:31on fourth and
25:31three for the
25:32Falcons.
25:33Well, he's trying
25:33to get Robinson on
25:34the hitch after he
25:35motioned to the
25:36outside.
25:36You saw his eyes
25:37looking to the
25:38right.
25:38Then he worked
25:39back to the
25:39left seam where
25:41Pitts was working up
25:42the inside edge of
25:42the numbers, but
25:43then knowing they
25:43only needed four to
25:44get the first down,
25:46he took it outside to
25:47the flat and picked
25:48it up.
25:49Tua with a short
25:50touchdown pass.
25:51Miami on their
25:52second possession.
25:53Up seven zip.
25:54Let's go to the
25:55second quarter on
25:56CBS.
25:57Yes.
26:02Downtown Atlanta,
26:04Mercedes-Benz Stadium
26:06starting the second
26:07quarter.
26:08Dolphins held the
26:09ball for over ten
26:10minutes in the first.
26:11No first down, no
26:13first quarter
26:14touchdowns allowed by
26:16the Dolphins now five
26:17consecutive games.
26:19They go outside first
26:20and ten.
26:21Robinson grabbed by
26:22Brooks, wrestled out of
26:24bounds.
26:25He is near the Dolphin
26:2632 on a gain of three.
26:29As we start the second
26:30quarter.
26:33You're going to see
26:33Robinson working across
26:35the field here.
26:40Almost an outlet for
26:42Cousins throwing it out
26:43to the flat.
26:46Last week, this offense
26:51with Michael Penix as the
26:52quarterback, just ten
26:53points, San Francisco.
26:55They had some scoring
26:56issues, especially in the
26:57red zone.
26:58Second and seven.
27:00A bolt by Robinson down
27:01to the 25.
27:06And he had Phillips down
27:07there along with a couple
27:08others.
27:08Third and one for Atlanta
27:10on their second
27:11possession.
27:12So here is the kind of
27:14company that Robinson is
27:15keeping, and it's pretty
27:17good.
27:18Well, that's those are all
27:19impressive numbers and
27:20impressive players.
27:21And the fact that Bajon
27:23Robinson is leading that
27:24group just tells you how
27:26how important he is to
27:27this offense, especially on
27:29a day like today with no
27:30Drake London, as we've
27:31said.
27:31Tyler Algier is the
27:34back.
27:34Third and one for Kirk
27:36Cousins, who is five and
27:37six.
27:39Algier.
27:40Crap!
27:40Sealer getting through,
27:42bringing him down.
27:43Like a torpedo, he shoots
27:44through and trips up the
27:46Falcon running back.
27:47And a loss of a couple on
27:49the play of one.
27:50It's fourth and two.
27:52They're going to try for
27:52three, and Miami's defense
27:54comes up and holds them out
27:57of the end zone.
27:58Well, the impressive part
27:59of that is Sealer was
28:00lined up opposite of where
28:01the run was going.
28:02So not only did he beat
28:03his guy to the inside, he
28:05was able to get the tackle
28:06from behind all the way
28:08out to the outside left.
28:09And excellent play on
28:11Zach Sealer's part.
28:12So here is Parker Romo,
28:13who came in after the
28:14first game of the season
28:15and took the place of the
28:16ineffective Young Wade
28:18Coup.
28:18A 45-yard field goal is in.
28:21And the Falcons are on
28:23the board.
28:24Miami's still on top and a
28:26three-yard touchdown pass.
28:27Falcons counter with Kirk
28:29Cousins on a 45-yard field
28:31goal.
28:36So Trent, one of the issues
28:37for Atlanta not getting
28:38touchdowns, although Kirk
28:40Cousins takes him down to do
28:42get a field goal.
28:42Yeah, that was one of the
28:43keys we pointed out at the
28:44beginning was red zone
28:45production is coming away
28:47with touchdowns when they
28:47get down there.
28:48But can't say enough about
28:49Kirk Cousins getting an
28:50opportunity here with the
28:51injury to Michael Penix and
28:52really feeling healthy for
28:54the first time since 2023.
28:58He felt good about this
28:59game plan and going out and
29:01executing felt like he's
29:02moving around well.
29:04We've seen it a few times
29:05where he's had to flush out
29:05of the pocket.
29:06But right now, five of six
29:08passing on the day for 41
29:09yards.
29:10Pinion will kick off.
29:11Olly Gordon and Malik
29:12Washington are back.
29:14And this will be Gordon
29:15taking the place of the
29:16injured Eskridge who began
29:17the game but now has his
29:18shoulder.
29:19And there he goes banging
29:20his way up the middle and
29:21he's up near the 27 on a
29:2324 yard return.
29:26Well, Saturday at college
29:27football triple header
29:28including a 330 big time in
29:30the Big Ten matchup.
29:31It's a Maryland when the
29:32upset minded Terps take on
29:35number two Indiana.
29:37Then at 730 a primetime
29:38matchup.
29:39The Cougars of Washington
29:41State take on the Beavers of
29:42Oregon State all here on CBS
29:45and streaming on Paramount
29:47Plus.
29:48I'm sitting next to a Hoosier
29:49former Indiana quarterback
29:51Trent Green.
29:52Your team is number two.
29:53You don't have to hesitate
29:54when you say Indiana number
29:55two.
29:56That's right.
29:58HN the back two into the
29:59air.
29:59So far two of four.
30:00It's HN.
30:01Oh, got a nice block in
30:02there on that line from
30:03Brewer, the center.
30:06And then he is finally
30:06brought down by the
30:07defending Caden Ellis.
30:10It looks like it's a gain of
30:1110.
30:11They're out to the 37 and
30:13they are going to move the
30:14chains on Miami first down.
30:16This is a pre-designed throw
30:19behind the line of scrimmage.
30:20It's a middle screen, really.
30:21They make it look like a
30:22crossing route with two
30:23linemen getting down the
30:24field to lead block that
30:26crossing route really gives
30:28it the appearance of what
30:30ultimately ends up being a
30:31middle screen.
30:31Dolphins today without their two
30:33top tight ends.
30:35Trent's talked about that first
30:36and 10 on their 37 to a
30:39there they come off the edge.
30:41He quickly dispenses the ball to
30:43Ingold who's brought down from
30:44behind by Onyemada.
30:46And there's no gain on the play.
30:48It'll be second down in 10 as we
30:50go back to Adam in New York.
30:53Kevin Trent's the Baltimore Ravens
30:56have a lead.
30:57How about this?
30:57It's a Derrick Henry touchdown.
31:00Baltimore, Miami of course on
31:02Thursday coming up this week.
31:047-6 Ravens middle of the
31:05second back to you.
31:07In desperate need of a win with
31:09just one so far and again
31:12without their starting
31:13quarterback Lamar Jackson.
31:14Was that three games now?
31:15Three in a row that he's missed
31:16with that hamstring?
31:17Second down in 10.
31:20It's HN with the pitch.
31:21There's a block by Ingold and
31:23finally wrestled down by
31:25Xavier Watts the rookie out of
31:26Notre Dame.
31:27He's been a starter every game
31:29and then safety position for
31:31the Atlanta D.
31:33It's a gain of six and
31:34Trent third and four for
31:36Miami.
31:37When you talk about mixing
31:39things up, what they've done
31:40is they've come out, look at
31:41this 12 rushes to just six
31:43passes.
31:44Not necessarily what you
31:45expect when you think of a
31:47Mike McDaniel to a tongue of
31:48ILO offense, but so far
31:50they've been able to establish
31:51the run 50 yards on the ground
31:53already.
31:54We've mentioned this earlier,
31:55but Divine Diablo has a broken
31:57forearm.
31:58He is the starting inside
31:59linebacker, a terrific player
32:01who's had a wonderful season
32:03so far.
32:04He is out.
32:05And on IR, 43, 34, two
32:07into the air.
32:09Bore on the block and high and
32:10uncatchable and incomplete for
32:11the leaping Washington.
32:13Over there defending was D.
32:15Alford.
32:16It's the putting unit for the
32:17Miami Dolphins for the second
32:19time in three possessions.
32:21Well, this ball sails on him
32:22and it's due to the pressure.
32:24Watch, he's trying to throw
32:25out to his right.
32:25The spin move there, three guys
32:27coming after him and as that
32:29he's not able to follow through
32:31with it, it sails high on him.
32:34So Jake Bailey will punt for Miami
32:40and deep back is Jamal Agnew.
32:44He signals four as a lot of the
32:45fair catch back at the eight.
32:47Hang time of 5-2-7.
32:49A good one.
32:50Yep, you should celebrate.
32:51Flag has been thrown.
32:53You should be celebrating that
32:54hang time.
32:55Allowed your guys to get down
32:56there and thus force the fair
32:57catch.
32:57The level of celebration
32:58with the fist bump in the air
33:00as he's coming out the field.
33:02You know, there is a operation
33:04with all parts of the kicking
33:06game that are really intricate
33:08and when you dig into it.
33:09After the play was over,
33:10personal foul, unnecessary
33:12roughness, receiving team
33:14number 84.
33:16That penalty is enforced.
33:17Happiness to the goal.
33:19First down.
33:20Timeout.
33:21On the tight end, Franks.
33:22But there is a lot to
33:23the kicking game that
33:26only the NFL guys like
33:28this man right here
33:29can enjoy it.
33:31And he should.
33:31He did a whale of a job
33:33in a timeout in Atlanta.
33:37The NFL on CBS
33:40is sponsored by LL Bean.
33:44Be an outsider.
33:47Intracellular therapies.
33:51And by Liberty Mutual Insurance.
33:54Only pay for what you need.
34:00Dolphins, a pretty good
34:01response so far, Trent,
34:03after their awful game last
34:04week, losing in the rain at
34:05Cleveland.
34:06Well, one of the areas is
34:07it's time of possession, right?
34:09They came into this game one
34:10of the worst at time of
34:10possession.
34:11They've really controlled the
34:12ball because of that run game.
34:13Punt by Miami.
34:14Elger, the bad first and ten
34:16for the four.
34:16Look at that play.
34:18Put up and in.
34:19Brooks.
34:20That was terrific, but shy of
34:22going in the end zone, not on
34:24the goal line, losing three.
34:27Boy, Miami's defense, number
34:2926 in the NFL, has come off
34:32strong so far.
34:33Well, Brooks times this out
34:35perfectly as he's able to
34:37shoot through the line of
34:38scrimmage and nearly get the
34:39safety.
34:40You see the ball is out of the
34:41end zone when contact first
34:43happens.
34:43Falcons are lucky with that
34:47one.
34:49Second down, 13, just trying to
34:51control it a little bit right
34:52there.
34:53And the 37-year-old cousins
34:54will take it as he tries to
34:58carve out something and get a
34:59little space.
35:00And now it's third down and
35:01ten.
35:03How did Kirk look to you on the
35:04field?
35:05He had a nice long
35:05conversation down there with
35:07him.
35:07You know, I think he looks
35:08really good.
35:08I think his talk to him about
35:10his mobility and the work that
35:12he put into getting that
35:13Achilles right and as well as
35:15all the other injuries he
35:16dealt with last year with his
35:17shoulder and ankle and some of
35:18those things.
35:19But I thought he was moving
35:20well.
35:20I thought the ball was coming
35:21out of his hands well.
35:22And so far, that's carried
35:23through here as he's five to
35:25six to start his game off.
35:26It's third and ten.
35:27Robinson gets the call.
35:29And down he goes.
35:30Brooks on him.
35:31And Miami stops him.
35:33Rasul Douglas jumping on him
35:34too with a seven.
35:35Gain of four.
35:36It's fourth and six.
35:38They're going to punt.
35:39So the good punt by Miami
35:40added on with the
35:42penalty against Atlanta.
35:43And then the defense makes it
35:44a three and out for the
35:45Dolphins.
35:46Well, I know there's some
35:47booze going on here in the
35:48Dome.
35:48And listen, you're just
35:49trying to get separation.
35:50You have the ball after that
35:52first down play that moved it
35:53all the way back inside the
35:54one.
35:55You're just trying to give
35:56some kind of separation so
35:57your punter can try and flip
35:59the field.
36:00Pinion will punt.
36:02And you can see where he's
36:03going to launch.
36:05Malik Washington back at about
36:06the 45.
36:08Oh, not very good.
36:09Off the side and on the fly.
36:12Washington about the 49 as he
36:14tries to hurdle and fly and then
36:16was brought down by Natron
36:18Brooks.
36:19It's a nine yard return, a 41
36:21yard punt, and they hang only
36:234.0.
36:24And they're going to begin now on
36:26the plus side of the 50.
36:29Brooks comes up with a
36:30sensational defensive play.
36:32In Atlanta, you can always
36:38count on Sundays with the NFL on
36:39CBS and streaming on Paramount
36:42Plus.
36:42Not only did Tua Tunga
36:43Vailoa come in with the eye
36:45ailment this morning, but also
36:46had a thumb issue that he
36:48carries from before.
36:50Yeah, he's definitely banged up
36:51and waking up this morning with
36:52a swollen eye doesn't help.
36:54There's the block.
36:55There's the throw.
36:56First at Waddle.
36:57First time today.
36:57Catches and takes some cargo
36:59inside the 20.
37:00Got a terrific block from the
37:03rookie guard, a 22 yard
37:06completion for Tua to Waddle.
37:08First down Miami.
37:10Well, this is what we're used
37:10to seeing a couple of years ago
37:12when this offense was taking
37:13the NFL by storm.
37:14It's these quick throws, plant
37:15the foot, get it out of your
37:16hand, the timing routes over the
37:18middle, and then the yards after
37:19catch.
37:20Tua fired up after that one.
37:22Tua Vainaya, that starting
37:24guard, the rookie on the left
37:28side with a nice block that
37:30saved that play at the 18.
37:32HN, and it's Brewer leading the
37:35way on first and 10, and Ellis
37:37will grab him and bring him
37:38down.
37:39With Mel, about a half yard
37:40gain, that's all.
37:42Look, there's been a lot of noise
37:43surrounding the Dolphins, but I
37:44can tell you today from my
37:45vantage point, there are no signs
37:46of guys being checked out despite
37:47being one and six on the season.
37:49There's enthusiasm down here.
37:50Guys are engaged and locked in,
37:52hyping each other up, and that's
37:53what Minka Fitzpatrick reiterated to
37:55us at our meetings this week.
37:56He said, we know the talent we have.
37:58The morale is high.
37:59Everyone trusts in our ability.
38:00It's just honing in on our
38:01process and beginning to sack some
38:03wins, and they feel like it's just
38:04a matter of time before the storm
38:05clears.
38:06And they've been down now, this
38:07road before.
38:08Here's a second down and nine at
38:11the 17 in the red zone.
38:13Tua quickly.
38:14And caught right here, Cedric
38:16Wilson, who makes his first catch of
38:18the season, and then wrapped up by
38:20A.J.
38:20Terrell, and on the play, only picks
38:23up two.
38:24So it'll be third down and seventh.
38:27Well, when you're going through a
38:29stretch like the Dolphins are going
38:30through, that's really the most
38:32difficult thing.
38:33Whether you're a leader on the team
38:34as a player, or you're one of the
38:35coaches, or the coaching staff, and
38:38just trying to keep guys positive.
38:39And it sounds like everything we've
38:41heard all week from Mike McDaniel
38:42and the players is that everything's
38:44remained positive, and they're
38:45focused on getting this thing
38:46turned around.
38:47And we have an evolving quarterback
38:49too, on the field and off the
38:50field.
38:51He is becoming more of a leader.
38:53There's a lot going on with all
38:55parts of this team, as is always
38:57the case, from the 15, third and
38:59seven.
38:59It was deflected by Ellis, the
39:01ricochet, and the bubble.
39:02And Bertrand almost had it on that
39:05ball, which went right on up.
39:06They tried to volleyball it around.
39:08It's incomplete.
39:09Fourth and ten.
39:11Miami will try for three as
39:13Atlanta's defense, one of the best
39:15in the NFL, holds them right there
39:17in the red zone.
39:18Well, they're trying to set up the
39:19screen out to the right, and if
39:20he's able to get that over the
39:22hand of the defender, it may be a
39:24touchdown, because so many guys
39:26were coming on that pressure, just
39:28lofted a little bit.
39:29You're able to get the screen.
39:30You've got guys blocking out in
39:31front of you, and everybody's in
39:32the backfield.
39:34Fortunately, that wasn't an
39:35interceptor.
39:36Riley Patterson's going to try a
39:3734-yard field goal to extend
39:40the Miami lead.
39:41Yep, right down the middle it
39:43goes.
39:43Ten-three Dolphins.
39:46So they've scored on a three-yard
39:47touchdown pass by A-chan.
39:50And a 34-yard field goal.
39:52But in the red zone, they are held
39:53to three by the Atlanta defense.
