00:00On the Ravens sideline, we know this is a revenge game for them, but the hype, the trash talking, the yelling, the high fives, and
00:06Ravens fans behind the bench chanting MVP for Lamar and John Harbaugh, after that last touchdown, went over to his offensive line and said, all you, all night.
00:17We want to send a message here right from the start.
00:20Very confident team always, but you felt that when we visited with the Ravens yesterday.
00:30That was a Buffalo timeout, each team has two, he lost the football, Bosa knocked it out, he's got it back, but he's taken down for a loss of 15 yards.
00:41The linebacker, Bernard, goes back to make the play, but Bosa forced the fumble.
00:47Tremendous play that time by Joey Bosa, and that's what they need.
00:51They need a couple of explosive plays on defense.
00:53You can't just sit back and let Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson and Dave Flowers just go one play after another, because they're capable of taking it 40 yards.
01:04So, second and long coming up, we are back in 30 seconds, after this, from AWS, see how AWS AI levels up the game.
01:15Second 15-yard loss on a play for Baltimore in this first half.
01:20Jackson had a 15-yard loss on a sack earlier.
01:25Bills took the timeout, they're down to one.
01:28Second and 25, a pass, a Flowers, nowhere to go.
01:31They'll go right down, cut his losses, no gain, timeout, McDermott, his last, as Buffalo would like to get the ball back, because the Ravens get it to start the second half.
01:42Yeah, and it forces some decisions as well on the part of the Ravens, because an incomplete pass would certainly help them coming out of this, too.
01:50So, we were talking, getting ready for the game, about Baltimore and the volumes of offense they have.
01:55This is a defensive coordinator nightmare when it's Ravens week for you, isn't it?
01:58It really is, and Todd Monk, and we have to give him a lot of credit.
02:01The offensive coordinator, three years here now with the Ravens and what he's done with Lamar, and we've sort of been talking about it a little bit,
02:09but he has really opened up the ability of Lamar Jackson now to make changes at the line of scrimmage.
02:15They'll have two or three play options, and Lamar can go to any one of those that he wants to.
02:20It has just been step by step by step, and Lamar has been eating it up all the way through.
02:26Play caller for those college championships in Georgia, doing a great job here in Baltimore.
02:31Todd Monk, a heck of an offensive coach.
02:34Third and 24.
02:36Jackson's going to run it.
02:37Bosa out there with him.
02:39Oliver there as well.
02:40And that big loss forced by Bosa on the first play changes the tone of this drive, as now Baltimore will let the clock run down to around 45 seconds.
02:52Well, it took Joey Bosa a few minutes to figure out how fast Lamar Jackson is, but he's got it wired now.
02:59No, no, no, no, no, no.
03:01At least make him stop his feet, and here comes the cavalry.
03:04So, they burned him a couple of times early, but the old veteran got it figured out.
03:10Ravens have options here.
03:11They can use a timeout to maximize the time off the play clock and the game clock, and leave Buffalo with very little on the back end.
03:20As Tyler Loop settles in for his second field goal attempt from 49 yards.
03:25Operation Clean and Luke one more time knocks it through.
03:36Two field goals, two extra points, a perfect debut.
03:3931 seconds, no timeouts.
03:42For McDermott and the Bills trying to get on the board again.
03:47On Peacock.
03:49Back here in Buffalo, we've had kick returns of 31, 40, and 41 yards, sitting up good field position so far.
03:57Buffalo could use one of those here.
03:59Trying to get it from Ty Johnson.
04:01That was well covered by Baltimore, and the Bills will take over to 27 with 25 seconds left.
04:08I mean, the hard part is Baltimore is going to get the ball to start the second half, and you don't love your odds with 25 seconds and no timeouts,
04:16but I think you've got to be a little aggressive here.
04:19We haven't seen any indication yet that the Bills defense is going to be able to shut down this Ravens offense.
04:28Matt Prater, who is now kicking here, although he's only been here a couple of days, has more 50-yard field goals than anyone in NFL history.
04:36So the Bills need about 38 to 40 yards in short order without timeouts.
04:42So it's a deep drop, and Allen buying time, ready to swing it downfield, and coming back to catch it is Shakir at the 46.
04:51No timeouts.
04:53Trying to kill it here.
04:55And the Bills will get there and kill it with seven seconds left.
05:00So Allen's rocket arm and legs by the machok.
05:04That was so good by Shakir.
05:06Watch him in the way Mike described it perfectly.
05:10That ball was sort of floated up, almost thrown to a spot instead of to a guy.
05:15And Shakir's just going to come flying in the picture here and make a diving catch.
05:20That is tremendous.
05:21That guy has done so much catching the ball yards after the catch.
05:26But you can tell Josh Allen just trusts him in a way he doesn't really anybody else on this offense.
05:31Baltimore's going to take a timeout here and try to set the defense after that Shakir grab.
05:40Ball at the 47.
05:42So if you do some quick math and say, okay, can Prater do it from 50 and going right to lefty at a 53 in warm-ups,
05:50can you get 12 yards on the sideline in six seconds?
05:54That's the question right now for Joe Brady, Josh Allen, and company.
05:59Yeah, it's tough.
06:02It is tough.
06:03Especially when Baltimore knows that, they're going to take care of the sideline, right?
06:06Yeah, and the one guy that is sort of that's his area of expertise is Keon Coleman.
06:11He's coming down to the bottom of the screen here.
06:14And he is that contested catch guy on the sideline.
06:16And if you're going to try one, that's probably the guy they try.
06:21Prater back in his younger days had a 64-yarder, third longest in league history.
06:27From the 47, Allen, no rushers.
06:32Throws, and they get it and get it on the bounce at the 25 with Kinkade.
06:37The clock says zero.
06:40Allen looks at John Hussey, the referee, who says, hang on a second.
06:44Josh thinks there's a second left.
06:46The Ravens are gone.
06:49Hold on, please.
06:51Hold on.
06:52Hold on.
06:53John Hussey says, hold on.
06:54Rolling on the field.
06:56Hold on, Baltimore.
06:57Hold on, please.
06:58Baltimore, hold on.
07:00Rolling on the field is we're going to put one second on the game clock.
07:06Terry McCauley, our rules analyst, explain why.
07:11Sure.
07:11When his rear end hit out of bounds, we see on our clock, one second.
07:16It had not gone to zero.
07:18So the officials on the field, they can get together and decide to put one second.
07:23They can also get assists from replay on that one to help them with that one second.
07:28And it is clearly one second when he's down, out of bounds.
07:32There was even a proposal this year.
07:34It didn't get to a final decision for tenths of a second on the clock.
07:38But you can see there was one on the frame when he went out of bounds.
07:41Unbelievable.
07:42It gets a zero-man rush they completed to the sideline.
07:45And here's Prater from 43 yards.
07:50We have seen some terrific performances at the end of a half by teams in executing that.
07:57And Buffalo just did a remarkable job to make this a one-score game at the half.
08:03Good stuff.
08:0420-13.
08:06Baltimore gets it to start the second half.
08:09Pretty high energy.
08:11First half here in Orchard Park.
08:13That was some call that time by Joe Brady.
08:16Three guys over here.
08:17Looked like maybe they're going to try a Hail Mary.
08:19Bring them all the way across.
08:21Melissa.
08:22Sean, you managed to get points on that last drive.
08:24How important was that going into the half?
08:26That's big.
08:26They get the ball after half.
08:28We've got to find a way to shut them down on offense and fundamentally be better.
08:31Yeah, so let's talk about that defensively.
08:33How do you slow down this Ravens rushing attack?
08:35Well, we've got to calm down a little bit on defense.
08:37Tackle better.
08:38Get off blocks.
08:39We're doing some more in the quarterback run game as well.
08:42So we've got to come up with some answers for that as well.
08:44Sean, thanks.
08:46Ravens ran for 160 yards.
08:48Scored on all four possessions.
08:50And McDermott took our job.
08:51He said it.
08:51They get the ball to start the second half.
08:53They're going to shut up and go to Maria for the two-year-and-a-half time.
08:57Tonight's first half coverage is presented by Progressive.
09:00This is an excellent rivalry.
09:06Oh, Ravens.
09:07It's a touchdown.
09:09There was a whole lot of home baby on that one.
09:12One of the best sacks I've seen in a long time.
09:15Derek Henry, get out of my way.
09:17Can't tackle.
09:18Yeah.
09:19Actually wasn't even touched on that play.
09:21What a matchup.
09:22Progressive, insurance for coverage you can count on.
09:33Nine drives, seven scores in that first half.
09:36Ravens by seven.
09:38Tonight's SNF storylines powered by AWS.
09:41Nine plus games with 150 or more rushing yards of their last season and the start of this season.
09:46And that ties a long streak in the last 50 seasons of the NFL, led by Derek Henry, who had 101 in the second quarter.
09:54Six times he's had a 100-yard quarter in his NFL career.
09:58And on the other side, Josh Allen's passing for short stuff.
10:01Quick passes, seven of nine.
10:03And 41% of his passing coming behind the line of scrimmage.
10:07That would be a career high.
10:08So we'll see if that's part of the Buffalo offensive adjustment in the second half.
10:13As we welcome you back to Western New York and the NFL kickoff weekend presented by YouTube TV.
10:20The show here in Orchard Park during halftime.
10:23500 drones to the sky above the Bills practice facility.
10:28Josh Allen in drone form.
10:30And thank you for the welcome.
10:32So good to have Sunday Night Football back here in Western New York.
10:36The last season opener in this stadium opened in 1973.
10:41The Bills move to a new $2 billion-plus stadium on the other side of the parking lot here next year.
10:51Baltimore up seven.
10:52They get the ball.
10:53This kick going to the end zone and a touchback.
10:56So the Ravens will get it at the 35.
10:58Melissa, a moment ago with John Harbaugh.
11:00John, you picked up right where you left off last season with the rushing attack.
11:04How do you continue to run the ball in the second half?
11:06Well, I think we're getting the premier plays.
11:07Lamar's doing a great job of getting us in the play we want, especially in this environment with this crowd.
11:13And I think the checks are making the difference, really.
11:14And we're blocking really well.
11:16And you held last season's MVP, Josh Allen, to just one touchdown.
11:20What's working?
11:20Well, we've got to do a great job of getting him in the pocket.
11:22He gets around.
11:23He extends plays.
11:24He made a couple throws on us that we'd like to have back.
11:26So that's the biggest thing.
11:27If we can keep him in there and make him throw from the pocket a little more.
11:29Thanks, John.
11:30Thanks, Wilson.
11:30John Harbaugh is feeling really good about this team.
11:33We talked to him before the flight up here to Buffalo.
11:36And Chris, we'll get into what he said maybe as the second half goes on of Lamar getting the team into premier plays.
11:43It's a little bit of an advancement.
11:46Inversion 3.0, as they termed it, of this Ravens offense.
11:49And they're going to a base defense look here.
12:03Dorian Williams, the third linebacker, is coming in there.
12:07So we are likely going to see an effort to do what they did in the playoff game,
12:14which is to sell out, do anything that you can possibly do to stop Derrick Henry.
12:18Because if you don't stop him, then you can't stop Lamar from running it.
12:23Then you can't stop him from throwing it.
12:25You have to come up with something.
12:27And it looks like they're loading up to try and take away Henry.
12:36Second and seven.
12:37They're bringing an extra rusher here.
12:38And Lamar trying to escape.
12:40Oliver hit him and finished off after a gain of about a yard.
12:44It was Matt Milano, the veteran, who ends up making the tackle.
12:48Setting up third down.
12:50Yeah, he was picked off on the pass rush, but athletic enough to get back in on it.
12:56You'll see him right here come up and have to loop back.
12:58But it was a huge tackle for this defense.
13:01Because they have a chance now.
13:02It's third and eighth.
13:03They have a chance.
13:04They desperately need to get off the field right here.
13:06They go quick.
13:12Bills bring late pressure.
13:14Jackson throws to save.
13:15Flowers crossing.
13:17Flowers accelerates.
13:19It almost gets all the way.
13:20Rapp pulls him down at the 22-yard line.
13:26Quick snap.
13:27The late pressure never got there.
13:29They had Cole Bishop blitz from the farthest I've ever seen anybody blitz from.
13:36And he had absolutely no chance.
13:38The other safety comes running over the top.
13:41Taylor Rapp.
13:41And left nothing on the other side.
13:43I don't know if they mistimed that.
13:46But that was a ridiculous blitz.
13:47That one had no chance whatsoever and gave up the big play.
13:50The Ravens on the move again at the 23.
13:56Justice Hill in with Henry.
13:58The fake to Hill.
13:59The throw to Flowers.
14:01Who got a terrific block and will score.
14:03What a block throw by Ronnie Stanley to freeze a Flowers and extend the Baltimore lead.
14:09The two best athletes on this offensive line, Ronnie Stanley and Tyler Linderbaum, both of whom had great first halves.
14:21Watch these two guys go out and make these blocks.
14:25They're basically tight ends playing on the offensive line.
14:28And when they get in space, they do not miss.
14:30And Zay Flowers, who became Baltimore's first pro bowler ever in the 29 years of the franchise,
14:41as a wide receiver, gets in the end zone for the first time this year.
14:48And a loop.
14:50That's the extra point.
14:51So Buffalo goes through halftime in the adjustments.
14:54And the Ravens just get to the next level of their offense.
14:58Scoring on every drive.
15:00At time, it's Zay Flowers.
15:0227-13.
15:05Lamar and the Ravens up.
15:11I'm showcasing high school football on Sunday nights.
15:14Lancaster here in Western New York, Section 6.
15:17Meeting McKinley, 29-28.
15:19There's one of their proud alums.
15:21Joe Andreessen, known in these parts as Buffalo Joe,
15:25made the team in Everplains College Football.
15:28That ball crossed the way at UB, University of Buffalo.
15:31That ball hit shy of the landing area, the target zone.
15:35So the Bills will get the ball at the 40-yard line.
15:38The first mistake of the night for the rookie kicker, Luke.
15:40Free kick, did not make it in the landing zone.
15:47The ball he placed at the 40-yard line, first down.
15:50That helps.
15:52We've seen that a couple of times this week.
15:54A lot of the kickers are trying to get those balls that land in the target area,
15:57but target zone, but are tough to field.
15:59So, Chris, what now if you're Buffalo offensively,
16:03as Baltimore just cannot be stopped when they have the ball?
16:06Well, I think that Josh has more time than he thinks.
16:10Maybe they came in here believing they couldn't get it protected.
16:13They've been very quick, but he may have to start holding on
16:16and working it down the field zone.
16:18Goes Cook for a run for five yards.
16:22Mike Green, the rookie out of Marshall,
16:24taken in the second round, comes up with a tackle for Baltimore.
16:27Yeah, looking forward to watching Mike Green play.
16:30Kyle Vannoy had 12 sacks for this team a season ago.
16:33Adafi Owe had 10.
16:35But there is something about this Mike Green.
16:37We spent more than a little time watching him in college.
16:41He can go, and they think that not only can he be a factor with the pass rush,
16:45he can be a factor against the run, too.
16:48Second down.
16:49Back to Cook inside.
16:51With three yards to the 48-yard line.
16:54Green, some thought would be first-round level talent,
16:57but dropped in the draft, in part to some off-field concerns.
17:00It was an investigation into two separate sexual assault allegations
17:04in high school and then in college at Virginia.
17:06There were no charges filed in either case.
17:09The Ravens did their due diligence
17:11and decided to take him in the second round.
17:15And from what everyone with Baltimore has said,
17:17they think he could be a significant pass rushing factor for this team
17:21as the season goes on.
17:23Yeah, and right now we need a rushing factor from Josh Allen.
17:27This is a huge moment in this game.
17:29There you go.
17:30On cue, he takes off, and Allen gets the first down into Baltimore territory
17:34at the 47-yard line.
17:36Teddy Buchanan, the rookie, brings him down.
17:39It's a Buffalo first down with Allen.
17:41Great job by these offensive linemen setting inside
17:44and creating that lane.
17:46And I'm not sure it was a designated run,
17:49but those guys know.
17:51They've been around Josh to know.
17:53It's third and two.
17:54That sucker's going to take off, and he did again.
17:56And he is one of the best at it.
17:58Some ball moves there.
18:00Got that second hand back on it.
18:04Last two MVPs, and one and two in the voting,
18:07and showing you why again here tonight.
18:09The 47, Cook slipping inside, and there's Cook
18:13with a first down gain of 11.
18:16Travis Jones retracing his steps, makes the tackle.
18:20First down, Buffalo.
18:22Take a look at Spencer Brown here, right here.
18:26Watch him take his man and almost get him airborne.
18:31Completely moves him completely out of the spot.
18:34That's Tavius Robinson, big, strong, physical guy.
18:37And that's what it's going to take.
18:39I mean, they're going to have to balance this thing up
18:42a little bit with this running game
18:43and be as physical as what the Ravens are
18:46on the other side of the ball.
18:48Spencer Brown used to be bigger than the people
18:50he plays football against.
18:51He did that when he was growing up in Lenox, Iowa.
18:56Allen, first down from the 36.
18:58There's it in the middle, pass broken up.
19:00And incomplete.
19:04Kyle Hamilton again.
19:07It's always seemingly around the football.
19:09Yeah, and he was just sitting on that one.
19:11It was for Josh.
19:12He sort of got away with one there,
19:14right down the middle of the field,
19:16and it looked like it was thrown to Hamilton
19:18when he threw it.
19:19And if Kyle had broken up just a little bit,
19:22he might have gotten that one.
19:25But I do like the idea that what we're seeing,
19:27Josh is beginning to realize
19:29he has more time than he thinks.
19:30This line's doing a good job for him.
19:33From Green Bay Packer, Jair Alexander's 23,
19:35left side of his screen.
19:37He checks in at corner.
19:39Allen throws underneath.
19:41Limited gain.
19:42Jordan Cook and Chidabelle Wouzier makes the tackle.
19:46So Wouzier, Alexander,
19:48a couple of the corners that they've added
19:50to this Baltimore defense
19:52to get ready for what they hope is a Super Bowl run.
19:56Yeah, we haven't even really talked about Malachi Starks,
19:58the rookie starting at safety now
20:00for the Ravens.
20:02And they said,
20:04we kind of forget he's a rookie sometimes,
20:06that he knows everything our veteran guys know.
20:09And he has fit in very nicely in this secondary.
20:14Could be fourth down,
20:15four down territory here.
20:17Third and eight.
20:19Pressure's coming.
20:20Allen gets rid of it.
20:22It's caught short of the first down by four yards.
20:26With Roquan Smith making the play on Elijah Moore.
20:30And they'll go for it.
20:31So fire zone here, drop out there.
20:34So basically going to force the quick throw right here.
20:38Got a free runner in there.
20:42That's the guy that Josh Allen was talking about.
20:45Kyle Hamilton coming in.
20:46Josh was trying to tell John Hussey hit to the head.
20:50No flag.
20:51Fourth and five.
20:57So good in this spot last year.
20:59Shakir stumbles.
21:00Allen looks flinging end zone.
21:03It is flag on Palmer.
21:07Alexander covering Palmer.
21:08And it looks like pass interference on the new Raven,
21:12Jair Alexander.
21:13Pass interference, defense number 23.
21:25Ball, he plays a spot on the foul.
21:28Automatic first down.
21:31Sometimes you just love veteran receivers.
21:34Here's the case right here.
21:35That ball was thrown up, no chance, and Josh Palmer just refused to be held up on the play and comes back and made it a no-brainer call for the officials.
21:47Veterans understand if you go back through the defender, you will get the call almost every time.
21:5327-yard penalty on fourth and five gives Buffalo first and goal.
21:59Allen looking for a spot to run, turns it up.
22:03Berkman Smith brings him down at the two.
22:07A gain of two.
22:08You know it's like a duel you know don't you feel like that like I think both these guys are so hyper competitive and now we're starting to see Josh get some of that going in him as well. It is really just it's just fun. This is good football. This is not like people are playing poorly and making mistakes. This is good football and two tremendous quarterbacks going at it.
22:38From the two it's Cook inside from the Buffalo touchdown.
22:59The Bills had a habit and they get it. Cook finishes.
23:03That's the battle right there. That was the battle. You've got the huge guy Osiris Torrance.
23:10And I believe that was Nnamdi Matabike.
23:14But that is the inside running ability of James Cook that I think took everybody by surprise a season ago and he's doing it again.
23:22We have a penalty marker down on this one thrown by the two officials under the uprights.
23:36That usually means it's an extra man on defense.
23:46And Sean McDermott being given the option. Do you want to move it closer and go for two.
23:51And here's John Hussey.
24:00Defense had too many men on the field.
24:04Buffalo is elected to go for a two point try from the one yard line.
24:09And when you have a Josh Allen it makes sense to try those things.
24:14And when you have a Lamar Jackson it makes sense to try and get as many points as you possibly can.
24:20And you know that's what's fun about this matchup to me.
24:24It's it's people almost understand that the impossibility of completely stopping either one of these quarterbacks.
24:31Like it was a huge moment in that game on the last Ravens drive that third nine.
24:36They didn't get it.
24:37Didn't get it stopped.
24:38And now you pay the price.
24:40So now here they come.
24:41I mean cut this thing down to six.
24:43And we see Philadelphia these situations go with the tush push in Buffalo.
24:47It's affectionately known as the snow plow.
24:52Among other names but they're spread out here.
24:56From the one.
24:59Davis in motion.
25:02Allen looking to throw.
25:04Now fires to the back for two with Keon Coleman.
25:09And the penalty on the Ravens cost them a point.
25:12And makes this a six point game.
25:15Hang on one second.
25:16One second.
25:17We do have a flag back here in the end zone.
25:20Did he step out of bounds because there's a hat down with one of the officials in the back.
25:24There you see.
25:26Anthony Fleming.
25:28Field judge.
25:29Through his cap.
25:31Let's see.
25:32As Coleman's work at the back line.
25:34Clearly out with contact.
25:37From Nate Wiggins.
25:41And here's John Hussey.
25:43The receiver.
25:44Went out of bounds.
25:46And was the first to touch the ball.
25:48Before he.
25:49Came back in bounds.
25:51Therefore is an incomplete pass.
25:53The try is no good.
25:55So.
25:56Mistake and mistake on the try.
26:01And we dial back.
26:02To 27.
26:03To 19.
26:04Our score.
26:05Attaboy.
26:06We go from Buffalo to the Twin Cities in Minneapolis.
26:07The Falcons take on the Vikings.
26:08Michael Pennix Jr.
26:09And the Falcons.
26:10Tight loss to the Bucks.
26:11J.J.
26:12McCarthy and the Vikings.
26:13Their season debut.
26:14Tomorrow night on Monday Night Football.
26:15So we'll see you Sunday night for that.
26:16Speaking of Monday night.
26:17Our friends at ESPN.
26:18Joe and Troy will have that.
26:19And Peyton and Eli will have a Manning cast on ESPN too.
26:21And thanks to Peyton Manning and Marshall.
26:23And Eli as well.
26:24For his cameo.
26:25For bringing us on the air tonight.
26:26Reflecting on the Manning Bowl 20 years ago.
26:29Manning Cast on ESPN 2.
26:30And the all new ESPN app tomorrow night.
26:33Marshall is welcome up here anytime he wants.
26:36Come on up big guy.
26:37He goes up to ESPN 2.
26:44And he is on ESPN 2.
26:46And he'll see you Sunday night.
26:48And the all new ESPN app.
26:49All right.
26:51Come on up, big guy.
26:53He got the right gene.
26:54He got the humor gene.
26:55Oh, my gosh.
26:56That was great.
27:03So 27-19 is the two points come off the board.
27:08Player out of bounds.
27:12It's the return for Baltimore and Ali, and he'll bring it
27:17to the 34-yard line, Chris.
27:18All right, let's take a look at our 4K Skycam
27:20brought to you by Walmart Plus.
27:22It should be Walmart plus, plus, plus, plus,
27:25because we have one of the great centers in the game,
27:27Tyler Lindebaum.
27:28Watch number 64 and what he does.
27:32This is like ballet if you're an offensive lineman.
27:34Stays in front on the tough blocks.
27:36Watch him leap through on this next one.
27:39It has just been so much fun to watch him play the center
27:42position.
27:43Hasn't given up a sack in the last two years.
27:46Their best run blocker.
27:48What an athlete playing in sevens.
27:51Great stuff.
27:52Henry inside run for about a half dozen.
27:55Mark with a 38-yard line.
27:57Officially a pickup of five halfway through this third quarter.
28:00Just back to that two-point conversion real quick.
28:02Terry McCauley, can I bring you in?
28:04That was a penalty, so why wasn't it a penalty and a retry for Buffalo?
28:09Because the foul, the penalty for a player going out of bounds and
28:12coming back in the first to touch is loss of down at the previous spot.
28:16So they don't get to repeat the down, they lost it.
28:19Got it, awesome.
28:19Thank you, Terry, appreciate it.
28:22He's the best.
28:22Three-time Super Bowl referee.
28:25Second and five.
28:28Henry in the backfield, they get to him.
28:31And Oliver, who has a sack, has a big tackle for loss,
28:35and puts Baltimore in third and loss.
28:38Wow.
28:39That is two career-making plays right there out of Ed Oliver.
28:46Just watch the contact here, and he's gonna take Rosengarten right back
28:51into the middle of Derrick Henry.
28:54I'm just telling you, Mike, there's some good stuff going on.
28:56For the first week of the season, these guys are playing.
29:01Third and ten, they go on the first sound again.
29:03Jackson going deep for Bateman, incomplete.
29:08Bateman was entangled briefly with Christian Benford.
29:12No flag, and Baltimore's gonna punch for the first time here tonight.
29:16Christian Benford has just done this since the beginning.
29:23When he came in at 22 as a six-round pick,
29:26nobody would have ever believed the impact that he would have
29:29at the cornerback position.
29:31And I tell you, on the other side tonight,
29:33Dorian Strong, we even mentioned his name,
29:35but for one penalty early on in this one.
29:38Jordan Stout's first pick of the season is a good one.
29:4450 yards, Codrington contacted, able to still hang on,
29:48down at the 17.
29:50Buffalo bench saying that he was contacted before he could catch it
29:54on the tight coverage from Keon Martin,
29:58the undrafted rookie who is down there to make the play.
30:01Long field for the Bills.
30:03For the first time tonight, Baltimore doesn't score.
30:07Almost perfect timing by Martin.
30:09Back here at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park.
30:19See, as high as that light tower is, that's the top of the stadium,
30:23is gonna be like this stadium's old style.
30:25It's kind of built in the ground.
30:28The field level is well below ground level.
30:31But it has seen some moments.
30:32It's seen some great players over the years.
30:35And that's one of them.
30:36Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills quarterback.
30:39Me and Lamar Jackson giving us everything we thought we'd see here tonight.
30:43I didn't even see it.
30:45I learned it, I learned it, I learned it.
30:48It was defense with a stop.
30:49Buffalo takes over at their own 16.
30:53And Allen gets to get out of there.
30:55Good tackle in the open field to let it cook, no gain on the play.
31:00All right, this look at Josh Allen's throwing motion is brought to you by our
31:04friends at Accenture.
31:05Watch this, back when he was in Wyoming, I don't know what that was.
31:09He's kind of all on his left leg and tilted over and his legs flying off the ground.
31:14And they've been working with him.
31:15We've been watching this on Hard Knocks, HBO Max.
31:19And now look at the rhythm.
31:20The hips go first, then the trunk.
31:23And the arm follows behind just like that mythical golf swing I've been working on my
31:27entire life.
31:28But he really is just a different thrower today than he was when he got in the lead.
31:34Number 16, resets, escapes, takes off.
31:38The open field, Marlon Humphrey down the 25-yard line with a penalty flag on the field.
31:45This one's coming back.
31:47This one's coming back.
31:51Holding, offense number 79, 10-yard penalty, second down.
31:56That's on Spencer Brown.
31:58Just couldn't quite get in front.
32:04Sometimes when you have help on the outside, it doesn't always help.
32:09And he's working against Kyle Vannoy, who put a good move on him.
32:12The old savvy veteran went off to the Pro Bowl last year.
32:16Congratulations.
32:17I think that was his first.
32:19It was his fifth team in the league.
32:22He had 12 and a half sacks at 34 years old.
32:25A couple of Super Bowl rings.
32:29But still so effective.
32:33And the hole pushes Buffalo back to second at 18.
32:37Ready, what's up?
32:41Four, Allen climbing out of the end zone, chased down by Vannoy.
32:45A little flip to Shakir.
32:47First down, Buffalo.
32:51He's starting to feel it now.
32:53This is turning into one heck of a duel out here between these two quarterbacks.
32:58But to escape up, really had no chance to get his body in that perfect
33:03throwing position, just flip it out over the top.
33:07They were short of the first down.
33:08The initial mark was past it.
33:11They get the first down as they go for their version of the Tush Push.
33:15Meantime, the blocking with Dalton Kincaid.
33:20And Chidabay Wussier went way downfield.
33:25The mark of the ball is at the 27-yard line.
33:28And now it's a Buffalo first down.
33:30That's what was going on.
33:31Yeah, Sean McDermott, the old wrestler, would have liked that move.
33:36I mean, this is what it turns into with these two teams.
33:38I mean, it really does.
33:40It's these two teams, Kansas City, throw in Cincinnati a little bit.
33:44Maybe we're going to throw in the Chargers now, I don't know.
33:46But, I mean, they know this game means something.
33:49Because at the end of the year, home field advantage, whatever, it's going to mean something.
33:54Toss, Ray Davis.
33:56A lot of Ravens over there for the game of a yard or so.
34:00You lived this when you were with the Bengals.
34:02You guys were on good teams.
34:04Every week, of course, you're up.
34:05But when you know the other team is one you respect and one you had to do everything to knock out of the playoffs a year ago,
34:11you can't help but be at max effort going into a game like this.
34:15Well, I think the Pittsburgh Steelers will tell you this, too.
34:18When you play the Ravens, it's like a challenge to your manhood.
34:22Mm-hmm.
34:22It really is.
34:23Like, you cannot back down to these guys.
34:26You've got to go out and slug it out.
34:27And I'll say this.
34:29The Bills look like they could not figure out a way to stay in this game.
34:32But here they are.
34:34Second at eight.
34:36Allen unloads the sideline.
34:39Incomplete for Palmer.
34:40Recoverage from Humphrey.
34:42It'll be third at eight.
34:45I'll tell you, throw out the name Marlon Humphrey, and, boy, what a difference he makes for this football team.
34:51He can play outside.
34:53He had six interceptions last year for this team.
34:57He is the savvy veteran that, along with Kyle Hamilton, makes the calls, get him in the right position.
35:04I just, honestly, I don't know what they'd do without Kyle Hamilton and Marlon Humphrey on this team.
35:08They run the show.
35:09See what he did last year.
35:11I was talking to Marlon on the field before the game.
35:14He said, I'm that unk status guy.
35:15I'm the uncle here.
35:16Nine years in the league.
35:17But feels great.
35:18So excited for what this team can do.
35:21Again, Allen pressure.
35:23Gets away.
35:23Free space here.
35:24He's stopping to throw.
35:26Flinging Shakir again.
35:28Broken up.
35:30No slack.
35:31No slack.
35:32Fourth down.
35:33Hamilton again.
35:37Well, that was close.
35:39That was a great escape that time by Josh.
35:42Let's take a look at the tail end of this play.
35:45Whether or not the kind of contact we did or did not get.
35:49I think the question is, did he grab a shoulder and turn him, Terry?
36:02Well, John T. Wester, the rookie, back to the Brad Robbins kick.
36:06And Wester battles the wind in the twisting ball for the fair catch at the 32-yard line.
36:12So both teams are stopped on back-to-back drives for the first time tonight.
36:16242 and a good one here in the third.
36:21All right, let's take a look at this play.
36:23And Kyle Hamilton is going to recognize almost immediately Shakir coming across the field
36:30and end up picking him up.
36:32Little contact down at the end.
36:34We've talked to our officiating friends.
36:36They say too much, just bang, bang.
36:39So that's a legal play.
36:40But here's the news.
36:41Kyle Hamilton goes in the locker room.
36:44And if there is a position that the Ravens are very thin at,
36:49that would be the one at safety.
36:51So we'll keep an eye on what happens next.
36:54And the player you can't live without.
36:56Right.
36:57As good as he gets back there.
36:59Big check on Hamilton.
37:01Lamar Jackson first down.
37:03See Flowers having a big game.
37:04Lot of space.
37:05Flowers in the open field.
37:07All the way to the 32-yard line.
37:10Huge first down game for Flowers.
37:13It happens so many times.
37:19You get in these little tight formations.
37:21And they get confused as to whose man it is going across the formation.
37:27And remember this.
37:28When you're in your home stadium, the crowd is very loud.
37:33And it impacts your defense.
37:35And probably no defense communicates more at the line of scrimmage than does the Buffalo Bills.
37:40I wonder if they just missed a call because of the crowd noise.
37:44Now a career high in receiving yards in the games of Flowers.
37:50Henry for about three.
37:52Noreen Williams the tackle.
37:53Here's Melissa.
37:54Yeah Mike, I was watching Zay Flowers in the first half.
37:56And he was talking to Lamar Jackson on the sideline.
37:58He said the corners were grabbing him.
38:00That he just couldn't get open.
38:01Well, he's not talking about that in the second half after he scored that last Ravens touchdown.
38:06He went up and down the bench saying with a huge smile, I'm here this time.
38:10Even yelling it to the crowd.
38:11Remember, he missed the divisional playoff game last season with that right knee injury.
38:15He's enjoying himself down here.
38:17Got a big hug from Harbaugh right there.
38:19Big embrace.
38:20Lots of smiles.
38:21Come back, 10 pounds, strength of strength added to his five-foot nine frame.
38:29He is having an opening night.
38:31Lamar laying it up for Hopkins.
38:33One hit.
38:34Oh, the veteran still got it.
38:36DeAndre Hopkins touchdown.
38:39Oh, wow.
38:49I'll say this.
38:51I have had a handshake with that hand right there.
38:53It is no surprise that that ball stuck.
38:56And if DeAndre Hopkins can do anything for this football team, that's it.
39:02Those contested throws, those balls on the sideline, in the end zone.
39:07He could end up being the difference for this team come playoff time.
39:11DeAndre Hopkins, 33, still chasing that ring.
39:16Those big, huge hands.
39:18John Harbaugh telling us last night what he can be for.
39:24Redstone, middle of the field, contorting his body.
39:29That his first target as a Baltimore Raven.
39:33I'd say 1-0 is one for one.
39:36D-Hop grabs another one.
39:39His 84th career touchdown.
39:41Another beauty.
39:43DeAndre Hopkins, three-time first-team All-Pro.
39:51179th NFL game.
39:52He's had a lot of quarterbacks.
39:54He's made a lot of good plays.
39:55But how about this one?
39:57Yeah, it looks like disadvantage for Hopkins.
40:01It was actually an advantage because as all that contact was taking place,
40:05he knew he was going to catch him with one hand.
40:08Kickoff, line drive, Codrington with the return.
40:12At the sideline, Brandon's right at the 35-yard line.
40:15But we have a penalty marker thrown where he was trying to break through.
40:18Kyle Hamilton went into the locker room, coming back out.
40:22Looking at that left hand with another glove.
40:25And John Hussey will tell us what the foul was.
40:29During the return, holding receiving team number 42.
40:36That 10-yard penalty will be enforced from the spot of the foul, first down.
40:45One more time, the touchdown.
40:49And they go to celebrate.
40:51And over by the fans.
40:53Fan hits him up on the head and then hits Lamar Jackson.
40:57And after that fan who wasn't celebrating at all hit him,
41:01Jackson pushes the fan back.
41:03Obviously, both in the wrong there, but you can't be pushing the players
41:08because you're a fan there as well.
41:10It wasn't as though Hopkins was doing anything
41:13that he was extending himself into the crowd.
41:16And I think Lamar saw the first one and then took one himself.
41:21And I'm not excusing.
41:23I know there's no way you're allowed to go after fans in the stand
41:27almost no matter what happens.
41:29But sometimes that gets a little ridiculous, too.
41:32He's tight.
41:35He's second and six for Buffalo, now down 50.
41:38Hey, alert it.
41:39No, reload, reload, reload.
41:41Move out, move out, move out, move out.
41:43Here we go.
41:45Omaha's it.
41:48And Allen, protected, only covered downfield.
41:51Flings it to the sideline, it's caught.
41:53It will be a first down with Wiggins covering Joshua Palmer.
41:58But the Bills will move the chains as this third quarter comes to an end.
42:0414 points for the Ravens, including the highlight touchdown for Hopkins.
42:09Six points for the Bills.
42:12Ravens 34, Bills 19 as we head to the fourth quarter here in Orchard Park.
42:18You're watching NFL Kickoff Weekend, presented by YouTube TV.
42:26We'll get a look at the beauty that is Niagara Falls.
42:35Made of the mist.
42:36You've been up in these parts.
42:37You've been on that ride.
42:39Quarter coming as we welcome you back to the NFL Kickoff Weekend, presented by YouTube TV.
42:44Melissa Stark down on the sideline.
42:45Mike Tirico, Chris Collinsworth with you here in Orchard Park.
42:50Where the Bills were so good last year.
42:52Didn't lose.
42:54But they're down 15 with 15 to go.
42:58First down, Allen through the sideline.
43:01Keon Coleman brings it in.
43:03That's another Buffalo first down, as they're going to have to make up for this deficit in a hurry.
43:11Came down to that one high look, which means one-on-one on the outside.
43:16And of the tape I watched during the summer about this team, he throws it to Keon Coleman when that happens almost every time.
43:24Having a pattern here, it's underneath.
43:26James Cook is tackled by the rookie Teddy Buchanan.
43:30Kyle Hamilton comes back in in that break between the third and the fourth quarter with some padding on that left hand.
43:36He's been checked out.
43:37He's been playing great.
43:38Kyle Hamilton's just had a fight.
43:43Fourth year, got a big contract.
43:46Highest paid safety in league history.
43:48Burning it again.
43:50Pressure right here.
43:51Allen goes to Coleman, who is not turned around.
43:54It's incomplete.
43:55Melissa?
43:56Yeah, Mike, so we saw Kyle Hamilton leave the field.
43:58He got immediately into the x-ray room where he spent five minutes.
44:03And then when he came back out, you see him there.
44:05He was with the athletic training staff.
44:06You mentioned the padding at the base of his pointer finger.
44:09Then they put his glove back on and taped his middle finger to his pointer finger.
44:14And we'll keep an eye on it.
44:16All right.
44:16You see the tape job there.
44:17The athletic training staff and great job by our crew.
44:21After a long weekend, the game in Philly Thursday with the weather delay up here on Sunday.
44:25Best in the business back at work.
44:27Honored to be with all of you guys.
44:34Off in time.
44:35Here comes the blitz.
44:36Get rid of it to Cook.
44:37If he can get past that, he's got space.
44:39And there he goes!
44:40Cook!
44:4110, 20, 15, 10.
44:44What a run!
44:45Cook!
44:46Down at the one-yard line!
44:49Sensational play to keep the touchdown from happening by Nate Wiggins.
44:55What a 52-yard game!
44:57That was all Josh Allen on that one.
45:01You heard the Lester call, which means he's going to slide the line that way.
45:06They still brought pressure away from him, so he had to throw it hot.
45:10And now you've got James Cook over there making it happen.
45:13Allen trying to run left for the touchdown.
45:15Gets thrown down aggressively by Malachi Starks, the rookie.
45:21When they get in close, Chris, you've pointed this out the last couple of years.
45:24Bills love to go to the left.
45:25Baltimore was loading up for that one.
45:28And now we have a whistle stopping play here for an injured Raven.
45:35And that is Marlon Humphrey in the end zone.
45:46I wonder if it happened on the play before.
45:52So this audible is just so good.
45:56He's going to go Lester, Lester, Lester, right?
45:58So we're going to go that way.
46:00And if they come from the other way as well, then he's got to throw that thing hot.
46:05They do.
46:06Vannoy comes off the edge.
46:07There's nobody left.
46:08Roquan Smith had to try to make the play and catch up
46:11because ultimately that was his responsibility.
46:14But that play and what we've seen from Lamar tonight as well,
46:18in the first week of the season,
46:20these guys are all over what defenses are trying to do to them.
46:24And they're making the adjustments to make them pay.
46:28And don't lose the back end of the play
46:30where Nate Wiggins comes all the way over across the field,
46:33gets off a block, makes the tackle of Cook,
46:37and then a loss of a yard on that rushing attempt by Allen.
46:41So it's second and goal from the two.
46:45Big bodies, including the fullback Reggie Gilliam.
46:49It's a fake.
46:50Allen looks at the back of the end zone.
46:52He'll take it himself for the touchdown.
46:55Down nine.
47:04They're going for two.
47:08I hope everybody's enjoying this as much as I am.
47:14I mean, all the way down that every detail covered,
47:17when you see Josh Allen with that play fake,
47:20watch his head when he does that.
47:22It looks like he made the handoff and he's just staring at the running back
47:25going through there.
47:26That sold the final person that had to be sold and he walks in the end zone.
47:30Going for two.
47:41Coleman was covered.
47:42Allen now ad-libbing as always.
47:46Look out.
47:47Intercepted by Hamilton.
47:48He can take it back the other way.
47:49Dangerously pitches it back to Van Nooy who will take a knee.
47:53Just because you have the interception doesn't mean the Bills can't score points.
47:59Could have the odd one point there for Buffalo.
48:02Yeah.
48:03That would've.
48:04That was almost a safety.
48:06With Van Nooy taking a knee.
48:07Yes.
48:08In any case, nine point game.
48:13Becoming one of the great players in franchise history and passing records.
48:18Josh Allen with that rushing touchdown, his 66th.
48:21Passes Thurman Thomas for the most rushing touchdowns in Bills history.
48:26And there.
