00:00Well, the Manning brothers got us started, so father and son kick off season 20.
00:05By the way, Marshall was the MVP of that Open.
00:08The star.
00:09Way to go, Marshall.
00:11Speaking of MVPs, Josh Allen, the reigning MVP, spoke with Melissa Stark a short time ago.
00:17Josh, you're coming off an MVP season.
00:19When you look ahead to this season, where can you personally improve?
00:23It's a new season.
00:25Everybody's 0-0.
00:26Just got to find a way to protect the ball, score touchdowns, try to help my team win a game.
00:29Tonight, a rematch of the divisional playoff game against the Ravens.
00:33They said they want revenge.
00:35What are you expecting?
00:37It's the most important one because it's the next one.
00:38That's all it is to us.
00:41It's game one.
00:42Final home opener in this stadium.
00:45You told us you love these fans, and Buffalo has become a second home.
00:48What is it about this fan base that motivates you?
00:52I just think the hope, the joy, the energy every year to start the year especially.
00:56It's as high as it can be, and we just want to play well in front of them.
01:00Thanks, Josh.
01:01Have fun tonight.
01:02Josh Allen ready to roll for Sean McDermott.
01:05Season 9 here in Buffalo's, taking the Bills to the playoffs all but one year.
01:10Opposite side, John Harbaugh.
01:12Second to Mike Tomlin in tenure.
01:14His 18th season with the Ravens, highlighted by winning Super Bowl XLVII.
01:19His team won the toss, is going to defer as we have the penultimate act of the NFL kickoff weekend presented by YouTube TV.
01:31The legends of Buffalo, like Andre Reid, help get the fans ready.
01:38Where else would you rather be than right here, right now, with a chicken wing around your neck?
01:42The rookie, Tyler Luke, replacing Baltimore's long-time kicker, Justin Tucker, ready for his NFL debut.
01:51Brandon Codrington is the lead return man for the Bills.
01:55He's back along with Ty Johnson.
01:58It is late October, chill in the air, 57 degrees here on the 7th night of September.
02:06Orchard Park ready for the last time in this stadium, a season opening.
02:12Off we go here from Orchard Park.
02:15From the 10, confident, down the sideline!
02:18Near midfield as Luke pushes him out of bounds.
02:21So a great start for Buffalo.
02:23Terrific field position for the Bills offense.
02:27Josh Allen.
02:28Go Pokes.
02:29James Cook.
02:30Georgia.
02:31Joshua Palmer.
02:32University of Tennessee.
02:33Kalush here.
02:33Boise State.
02:34Keon Coleman.
02:35Hopaloosis Catholic.
02:36Paul Kincaid.
02:37Vandenberg Elementary.
02:38Deion Dawkins.
02:39Girardi's Chanel University.
02:41David Edwards.
02:42Wisconsin.
02:42Connor McGovern.
02:43Penn State.
02:44Osiris Torrance.
02:45St. Helena High School.
02:46Spencer Brown.
02:47Lennox, Iowa.
02:48That's the same offensive line start almost the entire season for Buffalo last year.
02:52This offense was second in points to Detroit.
02:57Josh Allen rolling from midfield.
02:58First toss is complete.
03:00Game of seven to his tight end.
03:02Dawson Knox fights for the ball with Kyle Hamilton.
03:05But it's a pickup.
03:08Of seven on first down for the seventh year man.
03:11Josh Allen.
03:13As Chris mentioned at the top.
03:14MVP of the league last year.
03:16What a 12 months it's been.
03:17Married this offseason.
03:18A few months after winning that MVP.
03:21Taking the Bills to the AFC title game for the second time.
03:24He is always there for this team.
03:27His 119th straight start.
03:29If you include the playoffs.
03:30He begins season number eight.
03:33Here tonight.
03:35More.
03:35More.
03:35There it is.
03:36That's it.
03:37Second and two.
03:39On the ground.
03:39James Cook.
03:41Side of the 40.
03:42And the Buffalo first down for Cook.
03:45A terrific season last year.
03:47And has been rewarded with a big contract extension.
03:51Yeah.
03:52We talk a lot about Derrick Henry.
03:53But James Cook with the exact same number of rushing touchdowns a season ago.
03:58With 16.
03:59Tied Jameer Gibbs and Henry as well.
04:02So.
04:03They can throw it.
04:04And they certainly can run it behind this tremendous offensive line.
04:10Number 14 might be new.
04:12If you have to follow the Bills in preseason.
04:13Tyrell Shavers.
04:15He's in motion.
04:17First team man out of San Diego State.
04:18Now he's on run here.
04:20And Josh who loves to take a hit early.
04:22Gets a couple.
04:23Against the Baltimore defense.
04:26Nominee Manavike.
04:27McKinney North High School.
04:28Travis Jones Connecticut.
04:29Adafi Owe.
04:30Penn State.
04:31Roquan Smith.
04:32Georgia.
04:33Tranton Simpson.
04:34Clemson.
04:35Kyle Van Nooy.
04:36Unk University.
04:37Nate Wiggins.
04:38Clemson.
04:39Marlon Humphrey.
04:40Alabama.
04:40Kyle Hamilton.
04:41Notre Dame.
04:42Malachi Starks.
04:43Georgia.
04:44Chittalbert Awazia.
04:45Emo State.
04:46Nigeria.
04:47Kirk Starks there.
04:48The second to last player.
04:49Introduced first round pick in the draft.
04:51He's pairing with Kyle Hamilton.
04:54And that back line.
04:55This defense got much better.
04:56As the season got longer a year ago.
04:58One, two, three.
04:59One, two, three.
04:59Second and seven.
05:01Allen to the air.
05:03Scanning.
05:03Coming back.
05:04And it's nearly intercepted.
05:06Almost in the hands of that aforementioned rookie Starks.
05:09of the pass intended for Kalilchuk here.
05:14I think Josh may be just a little jacked up.
05:18Going to get the route right across here.
05:20And really a relatively easy throw for him.
05:23Just missed it a little high and almost cost him a pick.
05:27And you can imagine.
05:28First game out.
05:29The raw emotion of playing against this team again.
05:32They picked up right where they did from the playoffs.
05:35Everybody's a little jumpy.
05:37Speaking of which.
05:39Namde Matabike moved.
05:41Spencer Brown trying to catch him while he was in the neutral zone.
05:45Carl Johnson, the line judge, is talking to John Hussey.
05:49Neutral zone a fraction.
05:52Defense.
05:53Number 92.
05:54Five-yard penalty.
05:56Third down.
05:56This Baltimore team penalized a lot last year.
05:59Now it's third and short.
06:01Once they jump into that neutral zone, then you are allowed to flinch at that point.
06:10So now third and a long two.
06:16Ty Johnson in the back.
06:18He's got it.
06:19Technically a run.
06:20But it's a good play inside the 20 to the 15-yard line.
06:24Gain of 16 and a first down for Johnson.
06:27The one thing you want to do with the Ravens' defense is get them going in the wrong direction.
06:33You fake a run away, a little quick toss the other way.
06:36And the other thing it does, Mike, is it really slows this pass rush down.
06:40You get a lot of what Lamar does to you on the offensive side as well,
06:45which is a lot of linemen pulling and crossing.
06:48And it just unsettles the defense.
06:50They're not as aggressive.
06:52Blocking downfield by the receivers.
06:54There's Ray Davis now in it running back.
06:58From the 14, Allen Davis did not get to that block.
07:04Terrific play coming up from the linebacking spot by Trenton Simpson.
07:09Will limit the play to no game.
07:11So anytime you're playing these guys, you're going to see these offensive linemen moving a lot.
07:21And you think back to the Tom Brady days and all the different things where they would pull one way
07:26and then throw back to Gronk across on the other side.
07:29Those kinds of plays early in the ballgame just set the tone.
07:33And it just gets you back on your heels.
07:38On second down, Allen looking.
07:42End zone touchdown!
07:44In the traffic, Dalton Kincaid is there for six.
07:48There was a whole lot of home baby on that one.
08:05And Tom Kincaid zipped it in front of the safeties right behind the linebackers.
08:11And it was almost as if Josh Allen on that drive came out angry in some way.
08:17I mean, that was dynamic.
08:19It was on time and some beautiful throws.
08:2241-year-old Matt Prater is kicking because Tyler Bass is on the injured list.
08:29He adds the extra point.
08:30What is that?
08:31Did he do a humbabe on that?
08:32Yeah, he did.
08:33First one of the year.
08:34Kincaid to touchdown.
08:367-0 Buffalo.
08:38Sunday Night Football is brought to you by Hyundai.
08:50Welcome to more in the all-new Hyundai Palisade Hybrid.
08:53And by Best Buy.
08:55Imagine that.
08:57The paths of these two quarterbacks from California and Florida on through their college days
09:01to the same draft class to MVP awards.
09:04Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen, and here they are, head-to-head yet again.
09:10Josh Allen came out ready to make a statement.
09:12And I'm pretty darn sure Lamar's going to do the same thing.
09:15Well, at least he's thinking the same thing on that sideline.
09:18And that drive started at the midfield mark because of a 41-yard kickoff return.
09:21And thus far, through week one, with the adjustment and a lot of folks anticipating more kickoff returns,
09:28we are seeing plenty more.
09:30Three of every four kickoffs return so far in week one.
09:39Matt Prater to kick it off for Buffalo.
09:42Just as Hill, Rasheed Ali back deep to receive.
09:47Ali from the 9 will bring it back.
09:50He has stopped just across the 30.
09:52That's where the Baltimore offense will take over.
09:56Lamar Jackson.
09:57Louisville.
09:58Derrick Henry.
09:59Alabama.
10:00Zay Flowers.
10:01Boston College.
10:02Rashad Bateman.
10:03Minnesota.
10:03DeAndre Hopkins.
10:05Clemson.
10:05Mark Andrews.
10:06Oklahoma.
10:07Ronnie Stanley.
10:08Notre Dame.
10:09Andrew Voorhees.
10:10USC.
10:10Tyler Linderbaum.
10:12Iowa.
10:12Daniel Fadlili.
10:14Minnesota.
10:14Roger Rosengarten.
10:15University of Washington.
10:17A couple of significant names missing.
10:19Tight end Isaiah Likely is supposed to camp with a foot injury.
10:22Patrick Ricard, the fullback, but they've got that back.
10:26Derrick Henry.
10:28Second to Saquon Barkley in rushing last year.
10:31Good pickup of five on first down.
10:34And Baltimore jumping into no huddle.
10:36And back to Henry inside for a yard, no more.
10:48Lamar Jackson, when you look at the stats, and Chris mentioned the tough, very easily could have won his third MVP last year.
10:55And it's not just the 41 and four, it's the other numbers, too.
10:59And what's odd is, he was the first team all-pro quarterback ahead of Josh Allen.
11:04Yet the same 50 voters voted Allen the MVP, Jackson second.
11:08That's old.
11:10Little motivation.
11:12It's about writing a new chapter here tonight.
11:14Everybody up for the Buffalo Bills on defense.
11:20They're crowding that line of scrimmage.
11:25They're in three-four rush out of the backfield, just as ill.
11:29Big hit at the sideline.
11:31It all depends on the mark.
11:33As he's close to the first down, I think Christian Benford was the player over there for Buffalo.
11:38He is their number one corner and was slow to get up after that hit.
11:42And they don't need that.
11:44They're missing a lot of corners out here.
11:46Dorian Strong, a rookie, is going to star opposite that.
11:50But Tredavious White can't play.
11:52Maxwell Hairston, their number one draft pick, can't play in this one.
11:56So keep an eye on how Benford's doing.
11:59Mark does a first down at the 41.
12:06And Jackson whipped to Mark Andrews, gets it back in his hands, gain of five.
12:11So much made last year, the playoff game.
12:14The two-point would-be tying conversion that Andrews was not able to hold on to.
12:19And that drop led to the Ravens getting knocked out by the Bills.
12:23Mike, I had a fumble one time in the Super Bowl.
12:27And you want to know when he's going to forget about that moment?
12:30Well, never.
12:31His entire life, that'll be with him.
12:34You just have to learn to play with it and move on.
12:37That's all you can do.
12:39Time for me to talk more about Mark as the night goes on.
12:42Henry to the right, sledgehammering in.
12:45For about two yards, Derrick Henry, 31 years old.
12:51Had a remarkable season last year, Chris, that was overshadowed by what Saquon Barkley did in Philadelphia.
12:57I mean, it's unbelievable to put up those numbers and say anybody overshadowed you, especially when you're 6'3 and 250 pounds.
13:06But here we go, another third and three for Lamar Jackson.
13:10You always have to stop him first.
13:12Hill, fake, Jackson keep, first down Lamar Jackson.
13:22Like you said, he's the one who can hurt you the most.
13:26And a dozen yards for Lamar and a first down for Baltimore.
13:30Always going to be one person unblocked out here.
13:33And Lamar is simply going to read him.
13:35Once he took that step down inside, Lamar knew exactly what he was going to do.
13:40But I think with both of these quarterbacks, when you're talking about red zone, when you're talking about short yardage,
13:46stop them from running first is job one.
13:5841, Jackson will drop back.
14:01Everything coverage, he comes back to what's wide open.
14:03That's Derrick Henry for about 13 yards and a first down.
14:07Taylor Rapp over there making the stop with Dorian Williams for Buffalo.
14:12We talked a lot this week about the growth of Lamar Jackson.
14:16Watch him.
14:16He wants to go right there.
14:18Didn't like it.
14:19Knew immediately where his check down was.
14:21Maybe two or three years ago, he takes off and runs with that football.
14:25That is not who he is.
14:26He is a pocket passer.
14:28That's what he wants to be.
14:30And he's very good at it.
14:31We'll give you a few numbers before the night's up.
14:4028.
14:41Run for Hill.
14:43Four yard or so.
14:45The ball came out for a second.
14:47But Hill was down, marked down.
14:50So no big deal.
14:51See 97 there getting off the pile.
14:53Buffalo Blue, that's Joey Bosa.
14:56A new addition to this Buffalo defense.
14:59First time he's ever played a game without a lightning bolt on the side of his head.
15:03Chargers whole career.
15:05He is a very good one.
15:07And not just a pass rusher either.
15:09He is a hammer over there on the edge to try and slow this running game down.
15:13The Bills bring in pressure.
15:21Jackson looking to take off, but they trapped him in there.
15:25Flag is down as Jackson's down.
15:28And a flag coming at the top of the screen.
15:31Ray Russo led this Buffalo team in sacks last year.
15:36Corraled Jackson, however, looks like this one is on the Bills.
15:39The rookie corner starting tonight Dorian strong to six-round pick starting at cornerback strong out on the outside against their best and say flowers
16:04That was enough
16:06Mouth guard came out the whole deal
16:10Strong a rookie out of Virginia Tech pick 177 in the draft
16:15And starting in practice today, he's white veterans back with the bills now tonight with a groin injury
16:22I think they saw the man coverage
16:27Chase on the run goes back across his body
16:31Incomplete
16:33I was running along with them and strong covering as well
16:39Mike just like they did in the playoff when the Buffalo Bills are coming back to their man coverage now and blitzing
16:47They did not like just sitting back in that first game and watching Derrick Henry run up and down the field
16:53So here you have Lamar Jackson
16:57Unafraid to make changes at the line of scrimmage. That's a new aspect of this offense now that hasn't been in in years past
17:05We'll get into as the night goes on the bills have a lot of youth on defense including both defensive tackles in there are rookies out of this draft
17:12The hand to flowers try to turn the corner cut inside Matt Milano
17:18They brought down by the safety Cole Bishop a couple shy of the first down with another third and short on this drive for Baltimore
17:26Probably the toughest boss for the Ravens before the playoff game a season ago was a flowers was unable to play
17:33And those two playoff game so he is the guy that is the electric part of this office
17:40So the more times they can get him touches of any kind the better off they are
17:46Third 33 of the drive
17:49With a movement the bill showed pressure
17:51The bill showed pressure
17:53And got Baltimore to flex
17:55Full start
17:57Offense from the sanders
18:04Roger Rosengarten
18:06Second year tackle
18:08Got a lot going on the crowds going crazy
18:11First game of the year a lot of emotion out here
18:14The bill is showing blitzes
18:16You know it's just
18:18This is a picnic
18:19Feel late
18:22It's a big day
18:24The end of the year we'll see
18:26We'll see if this is a big day
18:36Now third and eight
18:38Jackson
18:40Trying to get away
18:41Trying to escape
18:42Cannot do it
18:44And Oliver
18:49That may be one of the best sacks I've seen in a long time against Lamar Jackson
18:59Watch him just wiggle his way through here and even when he got to Lamar this is usually not over pushes his way back you got to make that tackle off the stiff arm got it done big time big time big time play that time by head on and a big loss of 15 turns the first field goal for the six round draft pick out of Arizona. Tyler loop.
19:06Into a long one replacing Justin Tucker first NFL kick from 52 yards has a big leg and nails his first field goal.
19:15He was all juiced up before the game or excited, man Luke knocks in the field goal.
19:32Oliver gets to Jackson and turns the drive into three for Baltimore.
19:35He was all juiced up before the game.
19:37Very excited.
19:38Good personable man.
19:40Luke knocks in the field goal.
19:42Oliver gets to Jackson and turns the drive into three for Baltimore.
19:47Started playing Buffalo Bills football here in 1973.
19:55It's the final season in this Highmark Stadium.
19:57That will be the name of the new one right across the parking lot of more on that a bit later on.
20:04But that has added extra energy to one of the most involved fan bases in the league.
20:12This bouncing kickoff is fielded on the hop.
20:16Johnson able to sneak through the 28 29 keeps going get six more time Johnson a nice return to the 35.
20:25And that's where a Buffalo will start drive to with Josh Allen.
20:31Chris we had a chance to visit with Josh.
20:34We got up here on Friday after the Thursday night opener in Philadelphia.
20:38And it's just been fun to watch the progress of Josh Allen from when he came in while throwing the ball around guy out of Wyoming Junior College to where he is now.
20:46MVP of the league and the face of this franchise.
20:49And married.
20:51With Haley around you could tell he's just a happy guy.
20:56And it really has.
20:57You can feel the difference with him.
21:00The movie star.
21:01From the 35.
21:02Here is Cook.
21:03Good run James Cook.
21:04For nearly nine yards just shy of the 44.
21:08It was the end of May when Josh Allen got married to Hanley Steinfeld.
21:13Remember we were up here right when they had gotten word out that they were engaged.
21:17And Josh just talked about how great the wedding was and the time together and how he has found that new purpose and place for the best friend to share his life with.
21:27Yeah.
21:28He's kind of a movie buff now.
21:29Yeah.
21:30A little difference between the two and the movies they like.
21:33He likes a little more action kind of movies than she does.
21:36But they have a good time.
21:38He's still for me.
21:39Game.
21:40No.
21:41No.
21:42No.
21:43No.
21:44No.
21:45No.
21:46No.
21:47No.
21:48No.
21:49No.
21:50No.
21:51No.
21:52No.
21:53No.
21:54No.
21:55No.
21:56No.
21:57No.
21:58No game for himself and just the physical presence.
21:59But the things he did at the Combine.
22:01His size, strength, speed something else.
22:03Builds go quick on third down and Baltimore is ready for it.
22:07And the second effort is stopped as well.
22:10So Cook gets stopped on third down and that Baltimore defense stops Buffalo on third and short with Jones doing it again.
22:18And if you're gonna beat this football team,
22:21here's where you have to beat them, right up front.
22:24Matabike all over that one, who was that?
22:27I couldn't see the other one.
22:28I'm gonna guess it was probably Travis Jones, yeah.
22:32Those two guys are just very, very difficult to move.
22:36And they set the tone for the entire defense.
22:38New puncher for Buffalo, Brad Robbins, Michigan man, uh-oh.
22:45Can't hit a raven, I think it did.
22:46The gunner waiting for it on the bounce was Sam Franklin Jr.
22:51Can't advance it, but if it did in fact hit a raven first,
22:55it would be Buffalo ball at the 14.
22:58The officials will discuss.
23:03It hit the ground and it seemed to bounce up on Keon Martin's arm.
23:09Ah, it hits Buffalo first.
23:12It hits the knee of the gunner, Franklin, first.
23:17And then the arm of the Ravens.
23:18So it'll be Baltimore ball there.
23:20They're rolling on the field and the ball was first touched by Buffalo number 28.
23:26Therefore, it is Baltimore's ball, first down, timeout.
23:31A little bit of an exhale for the undrafted rookie, Keon Martin,
23:35who is just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
23:38But it's Baltimore ball.
23:43Beauty of Niagara Falls.
23:46Back here at Orchard Park.
23:47Second drive for the Ravens, beginning at their own 15.
23:53Derrick Henry running to the right into daylight.
23:56A gain of 11 at first down to the 26-yard line.
23:59So many times with Derrick Henry, you've got to stay on the move to try and
24:09just meet him at different spots in the gaps.
24:13But right now, what we're seeing is that if they can get Derrick Henry going,
24:18everything comes off of that.
24:20So far, all the pressure in this game has been on Lamar Jackson.
24:23They need to settle back into what they do, which is sort of a run-first approach.
24:34Jackson has time and five flowers open.
24:38Lost the ball and got back on it at the 46-yard line.
24:41Gained a 20 and a first down.
24:43Melissa Stark.
24:44Yeah, Mike, before Lamar Jackson just took the field for this drive,
24:48he was on the sideline.
24:49The athletic training staff working on his right hand, on his throwing hand,
24:53the right thumb.
24:55It appears that he had a cut at the base of his nail.
24:57They put some sterile super glue on it.
24:59He grabbed his helmet and he took the field, which is something to keep an eye on.
25:02He will because he was just trying to keep it all over away from him.
25:06I would highly recommend he changes that style of taking
25:10that right hand off the ball and the stiff arm would be too valuable.
25:13And with the quarter here, run for Henry for a yard or two.
25:19The linebacker, General Bernard, will become a captain and a voice on this Buffalo defense
25:25with the tackle that will bring this opening quarter to an end.
25:29Each team scored on the opening drive.
25:31Dalton Kincaid, the touchdown catch from Josh Allen.
25:34Tyler Lupa field goal.
25:35Buffalo seven, Baltimore three.
25:38After one in Orchard Park.
25:39So glad you're with us.
25:40You're watching the NFL Kickoff Weekend presented by YouTube TV.
25:49Tonight's 4K Skycam coverage is brought to you by Walmart Plus.
25:54Back here in Orchard Park, Lake Tirico, Chris Collinsworth, Melissa Stark.
25:57Quarter number two is playoff rematch.
26:02The divisional playoff won by Buffalo.
26:04The Ravens had a blowout win.
26:08Cover zero look unless they come out.
26:10But pure one-on-one, they do come out of it.
26:13Second and eight.
26:14Jackson underneath.
26:16Off-fiber shot.
26:17Bateman against this Buffalo defense.
26:21Gerd Russo.
26:21Miami.
26:22Ed Oliver.
26:23University of Houston.
26:24Daquan Jones.
26:25Penn State.
26:25Joey Bosa.
26:26The Ohio State University.
26:28Matt Milano.
26:29Boston College.
26:30Terrell Bernard.
26:30LaPort High School.
26:31Dorian Strong.
26:32Virginia Tech.
26:33Tara Johnson.
26:34Weber State.
26:35Taylor Rapp.
26:36Washington.
26:36Cole Bishop.
26:37Utah.
26:38Christian Benford.
26:39Villanova.
26:40Changes on that back end with Buffalo and that secondary to be tested here in the early part of the season.
26:46Another third and short for the Ravens.
26:50Justice Hill the back.
26:53And Jackson will keep it.
26:54Outrace Bosa.
26:56Outrace Bernard.
26:57And get a first down.
26:59Throttling it down at the 30-yard line.
27:02Pick up 17 for Lamar.
27:04You just can't do that.
27:06Here's the unblocked guy again.
27:08You're going to get in here and you're going to get out there.
27:10This guy has to stay outside.
27:12And Bosa's going to figure that out in a hurry.
27:18The value of Lamar Jackson.
27:20What they've done with this offense Chris.
27:21It's just next level.
27:22Next level.
27:23John Harbaugh telling us last night.
27:24This is almost Lamar 3.0 in the evolution over his now eight seasons as the Ravens quarterback.
27:32Toss.
27:34Henry.
27:35Through the secondary.
27:36Henry to the end zone.
27:38Touchdown.
27:39The power running of Derrick Henry for 30 yards.
27:43Hooks the Ravens on top.
27:44They made the switch to Cole Bishop back at the safety position.
27:55And anytime you get on the back end one-on-one tackling opportunities against Derrick Henry,
28:01you can just about forget about it.
28:03There really has not been anybody.
28:05He didn't even get to the legs.
28:07He just got to sort of the forearm shiver that Henry gave him there.
28:11And that's when he can be just so intimidating.
28:14You're almost forced to play too deep, Mike.
28:17Because one guy can't tag.
28:21Tyler Lute punches through the extra point.
28:24That is the danger of this team.
28:25Back-to-back plays.
28:26You see it.
28:27Lamar Jackson takes off for 18.
28:30And then Derrick Henry.
28:32Get out of my way.
28:33I'm bound for the end zone.
28:35Making more NFL history.
28:40Tonight's SNF sites are provided by Nationwide.
28:43What a sight.
28:43We all got to put on the construction helmets, the yellow vest,
28:46and get a tour of the new stadium.
28:48Right across the parking lot here.
28:49About 60,000 it will see.
28:5364% of the seats.
28:54About two of every three covered by that canopy.
28:57It's going to mitigate the winds that have been so much a factor here.
29:00The folks in Western New York have no idea what's coming their way next year.
29:03That place is going to be a palace.
29:06And no fan base deserves a palace to watch football in.
29:10More than these folks who've been out in the cold and the weather and the wind
29:14for a half century.
29:15It was a treat to get that tour.
29:18Return here for the Bills.
29:20And Condrington spilled at the 20-yard line on special teams with Jake Hummel.
29:25So Cole Bishop takes over for DeMar Hamlin.
29:28And watch what happens when you try to take on the big guy, Derrick Henry.
29:34He just sizes you up, right?
29:37And then throws that left jab.
29:39You want it from this angle?
29:41Here we go.
29:45Down and out.
29:46I mean, it's embarrassing.
29:49Honestly, he's a professional athlete.
29:52Weighs 207 pounds and he just got tossed aside on that one.
29:56Way through your line.
29:57Out quick and dropped by Keon Coleman, the second-year receiver.
30:00The Bills are expecting a lot of this year with his first target on the game.
30:05That touchdown, I mentioned NFL history, Chris, for Derrick Henry.
30:09He breaks the tie with the late great Jim Brown.
30:12Now 107 rushing touchdowns, sixth alone in NFL history.
30:18Brown did it in 118 games this game, 137 for King Henry.
30:24We've seen his workout regiment.
30:25He's going to play as long as he wants to.
30:27I mean, this is, this guy has really turned into something special.
30:32And he definitely wanted to be a part of this Ravens football team.
30:35He fits it perfectly.
30:36The Bills offense sputtering at the moment.
30:39Cowan gets it complete to the new addition.
30:41Joshua Palmer, who was signed as a free agent after his time with the Chargers.
30:47It'll set up third down for Buffalo.
30:50It was one of the really big discussion points in the offseason,
30:54whether or not the Buffalo Bills were going to try and enhance the wide receiver position.
30:59They did with a couple of free agents, Elijah Moore, Josh Palmer, but not so much in the draft.
31:04And they did completely replenish the defensive line on the other side, though, which they needed.
31:11Assault, assault, no battery, battery.
31:13Battery, battery, battery.
31:14Ralph, on the handset.
31:17A quick, a touch of backup, but then the ball comes out.
31:21After a next tackle it goes out of bounds as Kincaid had it.
31:26Conversation about where it is.
31:27Still on the catch, bumble forward out of bounds, fourth down.
31:32Kyle Hamilton over there.
31:34Helping the nugget from Kincaid.
31:35It's back-to-back three and outs for the Buffalo offense.
31:40I'll tell you, Kyle Hamilton's really been something, hasn't he?
31:42Just got paid a huge contract.
31:44But I don't know of anybody on defense that can play more positions than that guy has.
31:49What incredible value.
31:51And it was when he got moved to safety last year, this defense woke up and made their run.
31:56What?
31:59Robbins with the kick.
32:02The over 25 by the rookie, Luzhante Wester.
32:05Tries to reverse field and is brought down.
32:08Cam Lewis continues to be a good special teamer for Buffalo.
32:11Makes the stop.
32:12Ravens the lead.
32:13Ravens the lead.
32:14They take over in 30 seconds.
32:21Mentioned, Chris, this is the third time in about 50 weeks these teams are playing.
32:25And you see that familiarity.
32:26They're shifting to different gears against each other very early in week one.
32:32They're staying with that eight-man front up there to try and get after Henry.
32:36But that single high leaves you in a vulnerable spot both in the past game and the one game.
32:42If he has to tackle him one-on-one.
32:45Five out of the pattern caught inside by Rashad Bateman to the 37-yard line.
32:50A half dozen.
32:52As the pushing goes on with Christian Benford who made the tackle after the play.
32:58I'll tell you though, Rashad Bateman, his emergence in the last couple of years,
33:02has really just made such a huge difference for this team.
33:05He had three touchdowns 40-plus yards a season ago in between he and Zay Flowers.
33:11And now add in DeAndre Hopkins.
33:13They have receivers here they really haven't had in the past for Lamar.
33:17We haven't seen Hopkins yet.
33:19Finished the season with the AFC Champion Chiefs last year.
33:24Now part of this Ravens outfit.
33:26Henry patient, powerful, and taking off.
33:29Another big Derrick Henry run to the 20 and the 13-yard line.
33:3551 on that carry for Henry.
33:38So they have to go into a two deep because they want two bites at the apple to try and tackle this big guy.
33:49That didn't work either.
33:51There were so many times in that playoff game, Mike, that when they were able to get him on the ground,
33:57one safety would hit from one side, the other safety from the other side.
34:01Look at the blockers they got down the field there.
34:03Roger Rosengarten, the tackle, had to be 10 yards down the field making that key block.
34:09Officially 49 and he's already over 100 yards.
34:12Seven rushes 101 yards in addition to the 13 in the air.
34:16He's a side run for Rashid Ali.
34:19The second year back out of Marshall.
34:21Takes him just shy of the 10-yard line.
34:27He is human.
34:28He needs to catch his breath.
34:29I don't think he's human.
34:31You're going to see that both of these teams, and especially at the tackle position, doing a lot of pulling.
34:37Very few teams do that really.
34:39But these teams have four guys that can pull in any direction and it's so much a part of their offense
34:45and it makes it so hard to read those counters by Lamar going the other way.
34:50And it remains the back.
34:56Jackson keeps left side got a great block from his tight end and takes it for the touchdown.
35:01Mark Andrews threw a great block and Lamar Jackson and the Ravens have scored again with a long quick drive.
35:15I don't know what you do.
35:16I'm glad I don't have to design a defense.
35:19Everybody's going this way back there.
35:22And now here comes Lamar out that way.
35:24And even if you do get these guys one-on-one, you can't tackle them.
35:29They're just so efficient.
35:31Jackson wasn't even touched on that play.
35:33That's the power of having Derrick Henry in your backfield on your team.
35:39It just shakes up the defense.
35:43Tyler Luke getting used to kicking a lot of extra points.
35:46There's going to be many more of those this year.
35:49The power and speed of Henry.
35:52The speed of Lamar Jackson.
35:54The Ravens.
35:55Three possessions.
35:56Three scores.
35:57Up 10.
36:01Terrific.
36:01They're all there an entire season worth of episodes.
36:05Baltimore's had a game's worth of big plays on the last two drives.
36:09Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry.
36:13And then offensive line making a statement.
36:16Bouncing kick fielded by Codrington.
36:18Comes to the left side and gets out around the 30-yard line.
36:23And this Buffalo offense back-to-back possessions three.
36:25And now Chris it's a different kind of pressure because of the way Jackson
36:30and the Ravens have gotten started.
36:32It really is time for the MVP now to settle everybody down.
36:36They've been trying to do some things with some really quick throws.
36:39Get it out of his hands.
36:41But we also know sometimes just like Lamar.
36:45Josh Allen can jump start an offense with his legs as well.
36:49See if we see some of that.
36:52Ty Johnson starts this drive as the back.
36:55Toss from the 30.
36:58And he'll pick up about seven yards.
37:00As he went into Kyle Hamilton that do everything defensive player for the Ravens.
37:06He has a good job by Ty Johnson just hanging on to the ball.
37:12That pitch almost came all the way through and
37:15set his nerve and was able to pick up six.
37:22He's doing a nice job spinning through their running backs.
37:27Davis, Johnson, no one played over half the snaps last year.
37:30They stay fresh.
37:33And they're all productive.
37:36Elijah Moore, the motion man, has got it.
37:39And he's got a Buffalo first down at their own 45-yard line.
37:43Free agent came over from Cleveland, 50-year man.
37:47Yeah, we got a chance to watch practice the other day.
37:50And it was Elijah Moore who was becoming a little bit more and more a favorite target
37:56of Josh Allen.
37:57Certainly a guy that can play a second-round pick back in 21.
38:01He's bounced around a little bit with the Jets and Cleveland.
38:04But he gives them an added weapon.
38:06And Zachary Orr, he is, that guy really came on, I thought, from a defensive coordinator standpoint.
38:14Really grew into the job in the second half of the season.
38:17Two coordinators you just saw, they're both in their second year in the league.
38:20Both in their 30s.
38:22Allen back as that deflected.
38:24It's an incomplete forward pass.
38:26As the hands were in there, I think it was Project Washington first, who was closing in on Josh.
38:40You have just so many weapons inside to come get you.
38:44And, you know, we were talking with some of the offensive linemen, Dion Dawkins, Spencer Brown,
38:49the two tackles.
38:51And they said they don't say a word up there.
38:52There's no trash talking.
38:54They just come after you.
38:55They're just pounding on you for four quarters.
38:58And there's a sort of a mutual respect here between these two teams.
39:03Physical approach to this game.
39:07After the incompletion, second and ten.
39:09Check it down to Cook.
39:10Open field.
39:11One of the Ravens rallying to the ball.
39:14Starting with Nate Wiggins, or rather Chidabay Woosier, beg your pardon,
39:17the corner, who was over there first.
39:19And he'll set up third and long for Buffalo.
39:22And right now, Baltimore is just forcing him to check down.
39:26They're taking away this middle part of the field.
39:28But remember, that's where they're so good.
39:30Dalton Kincaid, they're tied in.
39:32Just had a sensational rookie year.
39:34Came back the following season.
39:36Had some injury issues.
39:37Really wasn't the same after he hurt his knee, even into the playoffs.
39:41But if he could start creating some space in the middle of the field, it would really help.
39:45Real quick on third down.
39:47Allen escaping.
39:48Getting away from O.A.
39:49Throws on the rim.
39:50Sideline.
39:51It is brought in by Keon Coleman.
39:56Coleman comes over to get it at the 37-yard line.
39:58First down, Buffalo.
40:03Clean catch.
40:03Nicely done.
40:04But that was Josh Allen getting out and getting on the move.
40:08When he starts getting engaged like that, this team's better.
40:128-17.
40:13They go quick.
40:14Dawson knocks, works the edge.
40:16Knocks down the sideline.
40:17Roquan Smith shoves him out of bounds.
40:20First down, and the Bills crowd back in this one.
40:26The Ravens defense is just, they violently attack everywhere they go.
40:32And so you can see what the game plan has been from Joe Brady.
40:36Let's get them looking one way.
40:38Let's get them started one way.
40:40And let's quickly throw it behind them.
40:42But they're also going at a pace now where this defensive line on opening night, remember,
40:47they're not in that great of shape yet.
40:49It's going to begin to wear down.
40:50One, two, three, one, six.
40:53And we play that started the drive.
40:55The toss to Cook to the right.
40:57Off the first tackle, Keane, of seven yards.
40:59And you can see the speed both sides are playing with.
41:03This is a pretty good fight between these teams.
41:06Roquan Smith, the tackle.
41:09One of the guys that I think has improved almost more than anybody on this Bills team is right
41:18there, Spencer Brown, the right tackle.
41:19Watch him just hang in there.
41:21He is one of those street fighter kind of guys.
41:24And that's the kind of guy that you want when you're taking on the Baltimore Ravens.
41:28He is one of the guys that he's going to play with.
41:32Bill his entire time, third-round kick out of Northern Iowa.
41:36Cook, inside run, stopped there again.
41:40It'll be third and a few.
41:42Remember, Buffalo was stopped a couple of times on third and short.
41:45Damias Robinson on that defensive front for the Ravens with five and a half left in this first half.
41:53And ordinarily, who knows what the game plan is tonight,
41:57but this is all Josh Allen.
41:59Either he's going to keep it, they're going to run some power,
42:02offensive lineman pulling in front of them,
42:05or some kind of bootleg and get him out on the edge,
42:08but get his run threat somehow involved in this game.
42:11One, two, three, one, two.
42:12He points it to Kalil Shakir, who took the handoff and has the first down,
42:17down to the 12-yard line.
42:20Shakir, who is so often on the same page with Allen,
42:24they've got three chemistry, does it on the ground.
42:27Watch this block coming across here by Deion Dawkins.
42:30That was a very clever little play,
42:33and they're executing this quick strike really well.
42:36That is, they really needed this because their defense had to have a little bit of a break.
42:41They just looked like they were about to break down.
42:43All the left, and twist it to zero, twist it to zero.
42:52From the 12, play 10 of the drive, Allen, look at the end zone, nothing there,
42:57as Coleman was going for it.
43:03Kyle Hamilton on the defense.
43:06One of the things we saw from Josh Allen a season ago was that he got the ball out of his hands
43:13so much quicker than what he had.
43:15And because of that, they, the number of interceptions that he threw,
43:19dropped from 18 and 23 down to six.
43:22So I think he's trying to be efficient with the ball, efficient with the offense.
43:26But he's still dangerous running.
43:31We run it once so far tonight.
43:40Inside run with Cook, Roquan Smith.
43:42He's there at the 10-yard line with their rookie linebacker, Teddy Buchanan,
43:47his big third down coming up before the Bills.
43:51It was interesting, James Cook, the running back,
43:53was sort of barely involved down in the red zone.
43:56Very rarely had a running touchdown.
43:58But this past year, 16 of them.
44:01So I think that he's proven that it's not all about size,
44:04that sometimes people just have a feel for it.
44:07And he's sort of one of those gliders, more than the heavy cuts.
44:11And sometimes that works in the red zone.
44:14He's out, third down back, Ty Johnson in here, third and eight.
44:21Palmer's the move man, Allen looking left, now comes back.
44:25It's Shakir underneath, cannot get away from the rookie, Buchanan.
44:29Tied him up until company came to help.
44:32Fourth down on the Bills, we'll go for a field goal.
44:35Big time play that time by Teddy Buchanan, the rookie, who is basically
44:40at least splitting time with Trenton Simpson, who was benched a year ago.
44:44But for Teddy Buchanan, if he can come in here and solidify that final linebacker spot.
44:51Of course, they got Roquan Smith.
44:53And I think they're hoping Teddy Buchanan can take over that other side.
44:58A few days ago, Matt Prater took a red eye from Arizona.
45:01He was kicking at a high school to stay in shape, was not in anyone's camp.
45:06The 41 veteran, 41-year-old veteran, in his 19th year in the league,
45:11now in as Tyler Bass is on IR for at least four weeks with an injury.
45:17Prater gets the job done.
45:19Bill's Drive gets three points.
45:21Back to a one-score game.
45:22Season for Canal Side going down the Buffalo River.
45:29That was the Bills Mafia, their annual boat parade.
45:32It is all about the Bills up here.
45:34The great buildup, of course, this team that went to four consecutive Super Bowls back in the 90s.
45:39Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Andre Reid, Mark Levy, and now this team that has been very good and
45:46very close trying to get the Bills back to the big game.
45:50And this fan base just desperate to host that Super Bowl parade one day.
45:59Will that day be in February of 2026, as the Mafia hopes?
46:07Raiders kick in play, so return by Ali across the 30, Ali.
46:15Nice move inside the 40 and brought down past the 45 by Dorian Williams.
46:19All right, let's take a look at our next-gen stats powered by AWS, and why not King Henry?
46:25Here we go.
46:26The one thing that any professional athlete hates is getting embarrassed.
46:31And I don't know of any player in the NFL that embarrasses you more than Derrick Henry.
46:37He can simply toss people aside that are big, strong, always been the best player on their team,
46:44no matter where they've been, but he is just a different breed of cat.
46:50Saw that number already, 86 in his 101 yards after contact already.
46:55And here comes Moore inside the 40 for the 37-yard line.
47:00So Henry lit up the Bills for 199 in the regular season game last year on his way to that again.
47:07Well, here comes the tight end trap down inside here.
47:10This is what they scored a touchdown on the last time these two teams played.
47:14And right now, it is just not going well for the Buffalo Bills along this defensive line.
47:20Huge holes opening up.
47:22Hey, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on.
47:28The new Lamar Jackson with the Audibles.
47:33Sneaking in before the two-minute warning.
47:35Henry with another run against the 32-yard line as the Ravens are on the move as we get inside.
47:42The two-minute warning.
47:43Baltimore scoring on all three drives.
47:46Leading by seven.
47:47You're watching the NFL kickoff weekend presented by YouTube TV.
47:53Coming up on the Toyota Halftime, Micah Parsons showed up and showed out in his Packers debut.
47:58You and Aaron Rodgers escaped New York with a Steelers win.
48:01Mike?
48:02All right, Maria, we'll see you at halftime.
48:04It's fun to sit back and watch all the games today.
48:06It was just that reminder of how great Sundays are, right, in the NFL season.
48:10Man, it was fun.
48:12Terrific performances.
48:13Maria and the guys will have only analysis for you at the half.
48:18Here the Ravens lead by seven and second to five.
48:21Safety blitz coming.
48:22The deflection by Russo and the pass is incomplete.
48:26Greg Russo got his hands up to force third and five.
48:31Led this team in sacks a season ago with eight.
48:35And they have added a lot of depth around him at those positions.
48:38But he is still their best out on the edge.
48:42The Andre Hopkins in the game, number 10 in white.
48:54He's played five snaps so far.
48:55No targets.
48:57Timeout Baltimore.
48:58We saw the pressure on that last play, Chris, from Cole Bishop.
49:06Bishop in with Taylor Rapp as the starters.
49:08It was DeMar Hamlin who started the playoff game against the Ravens.
49:13Hamlin's still on the team.
49:13He's the third safety for now.
49:15There he is on the sidelines, covered a couple of kicks from special teams.
49:19But Bishop, the second rounder who they've been trying to get on the field,
49:22now in his second year becomes the starter.
49:25And Hamlin's a reserve.
49:26Well, and Cole Bishop is much more athletic.
49:28He's much faster than either DeMar Hamlin or Taylor Rapp.
49:33But I'll say this.
49:34DeMar Hamlin made some really big tackles
49:37against Derrick Henry in that playoff game.
49:40At some point, what's hurting you more?
49:42The passing game or what Derrick Henry's doing?
49:45He had eight tackles.
49:46A sack of the forced fumble in that
49:48Divisional Playoff win here in January.
49:52Third and five.
49:55Bills bring in four.
49:56Lamar throws in the middle and is caught.
49:59Two receivers there and safe flowers.
50:01Slide to the catch.
50:02Ravens in the red zone at the 17-yard line.
50:05And a timeout taker.
50:06Really interesting.
50:10You saw the tight end Mark Andrews trying to adjust his route.
50:14Held on to the catch.
50:15Yes, he did.
50:17And Zay Flowers is that answer that would teams try to do what Buffalo has done
50:23early on here and try and play some man coverage against them.
50:28He's the one they can't cover.
50:29I mean, he really is.
50:31Melissa.
50:33Yeah, Mike, there is so much energy down here
50:35on the Ravens sideline.
50:37We know this.
