00:00Really nice pitch and catch there by the New York Jets.
00:03Stone Smart was a converted college quarterback to a tied end.
00:09Big quarterback.
00:11He was a big quarterback, Mavis.
00:13Will knock it in and the lead for the Jets expands 24-3 over Green Bay.
00:21We step aside from Lambeau.
00:30Packer game.
00:33Hope she's enjoying it.
00:34She got good seats, didn't she?
00:36Yeah.
00:36Jordan Love fan.
00:38Yeah.
00:3824-3 Jets.
00:41Just had a 24-yard, well-executed catch-and-run touchdown to their veteran tied end, Stone Smart.
00:48Mavis will kick it off.
00:50Beat back Julian Hicks along with Abanaconda.
00:53This is out of the end zone.
00:56It'll be a touchback and the clock gets six.
01:0032 here in the third.
01:03Sean Clifford will be back out there for Green Bay.
01:09Packers won 11 games last year.
01:11And this year, John, they're going to play the AFC North plus the NFC Championship game competitors, Philadelphia and Washington.
01:20Tough, tough schedule.
01:21Tough schedule.
01:23Looks like a very entertaining schedule for the Packers, especially the start of the season.
01:27Detroit Lions here and then Thursday night football against the Commanders should get off to a real doozy of a start.
01:34That game against Detroit here, my goodness.
01:36First and 10.
01:37And the run up the middle.
01:43There's not a lot of room.
01:45It's a gain of four on the play.
01:48And Johnson, out of South Dakota State, takes it up to the 24 of the Packers.
01:54You know, you talk about that schedule, Kevin.
01:56The one good thing about the schedule when you take a look at it, it's not like last year's schedule.
02:02Two preseason games away, some joint practices away.
02:05First game down in Brazil with all the travel against the Philadelphia Eagles, the eventual Super Bowl champion.
02:11So Packers get to start at home for the first time in the mat before Eric Clifford with a second down and six.
02:19The Penn State quarterback with Johnson giving a block and a flag and the back pedal and a throw.
02:27There's a lot going on in that play and those flags came out in a hurry.
02:31There are officials at all practices around the NFL.
02:38All 32 teams have NFL officiating crews there or college crews.
02:42Holding offense number 62.
02:45Ten-yard penalty remains second down.
02:47That's about the third time we've talked about Jacob Monk tonight.
02:50And that is obviously something that he wanted to avoid.
02:55Yeah, sadly, the Packers are just not, they don't have the fundamentals here tonight.
02:59Not offensively, not on special teams.
03:03And it's something that, you know, that's going to go into this next week of practice.
03:07And it's a short week of practice before they go down and have joint practices with the Indianapolis Colts.
03:12I'm glad you brought that up.
03:13Second down, 16, six offensive penalties on Green Bay.
03:16Low throw.
03:18Trying to scoop it in there with Julian Hicks, who is out of Albany.
03:23And it was a gain of five.
03:26And that will bring up third down in about 11.
03:30Those Packer penalties, six on the offense, and five have been holding calls.
03:35And I think at least two on Monk.
03:38Yeah.
03:39Again, these are the things that just drive you absolutely bonkers.
03:44If you're Matt LaFleur, if you're Adam Stenevich, because this is not winning football.
03:48Third down, 11.
03:51Clifford going deep.
03:53There was some contact.
03:55There goes the flag.
03:56It was going for Malik Heath.
03:59Flag was thrown.
04:02And it may be on Green Bay.
04:06With the coverage here by Jarius Monroe.
04:08Number 71.
04:09That penalty's declined.
04:11Fourth out.
04:15Declined fourth and 11.
04:16Punting unit back out there for the Packers.
04:18John, in retrospect, when you mentioned the Brazil game, and they knew they had to make
04:25the 10-plus hour flight down and back on a Friday before the regular season's first weekend
04:33commenced, was it a distraction now in retrospect?
04:37Are you looking back on it a year later?
04:38Well, I don't know if it was a distraction, but it definitely lingered over this team.
04:44They knew they were going to have one of the premier games in the first weekend.
04:48I think a ton of emphasis was put on that throughout training camp.
04:52And then to go down there and not just suffer a close loss to the Eagles, but then get your
04:57quarterback injured, that was definitely something that you felt like the Packers were always
05:00trying to play catch-up throughout the first half of the season.
05:0459-yard punt, but you see the flag has been thrown.
05:0714-yard return.
05:094-8-3 on the hang from Whelan.
05:16Guess what, Kevin?
05:18It's on the Pack.
05:21And it's holding.
05:22And it's holding.
05:26Maybe the Colt joint practices comes at a good time next week for the Packers after tonight.
05:31Yeah, I mean, they love the joint practices regardless.
05:35It gives you an opportunity to get your ones out there in a pretty safe environment.
05:39You know, you're not getting tackled.
05:41Quarterbacks aren't getting hit.
05:43And you're still getting some great looks.
05:45During the kick, holding against the return team, number 53.
05:49Oh, they pointed the wrong way.
05:50That penalty's enforced half the distance to the goal from the end of the kick.
05:53First down New York.
05:55Timeout.
05:55And he clarifies it there with 4.54 to go in the third.
06:00First preseason game.
06:01First game as a head coach for Aaron Glenn of the Jets.
06:04And they look good.
06:07Hey, there's John McGivers.
06:10So we've got the Colts next for the Packers.
06:13It'll be a noon kickoff Central Time next Saturday from Indianapolis.
06:21Hope you can join us.
06:23The one thing that was pretty pronounced in our conversation this morning with Matt was that he loves the different start times.
06:32And the Packers are getting a taste of it all.
06:34A night game tonight.
06:36An early game next week.
06:37And then a mid-afternoon game against Seattle here to close it out.
06:40Yeah, it gives them an opportunity to address rehearsal for all three time slots that they're going to have throughout the course of the season.
06:47Obviously finishing with that 3.30 time slot is just like the game that they're going to start with week one.
06:53And the coaches collaborate together to create these schedules so that they can get variability in its start times.
07:02So on that first down, the tight end, Neil Johnson lassoed that pass.
07:06Got six.
07:08Johnson is out of Louisiana.
07:10Adrian Martinez with the throw.
07:14Still the QB.
07:15Gain of six on first, second, down and four.
07:21Wongu is the running back and the call with a cut.
07:26And he drives face first into Herring and others.
07:29Bartlett was there.
07:30Gain of two.
07:31It'll be third down.
07:32And then another nice hit made by linebacker Jared Bartlett.
07:38He really stepped up in the gap.
07:40He did.
07:40Put a nice hit on there.
07:41Would have been better if he could have finished going the other way.
07:45But nonetheless, a sure tackle right there out of Bartlett.
07:53Adrian Martinez played in the UFL with Birmingham last year.
07:58He's got a third and two right now with his own 20-yard line.
08:02Edwards, the back, and the block.
08:07Here's the throw.
08:07He's got him.
08:08Downfield.
08:09Nice-looking catch by Skinner.
08:12Beautifully went up for the ball.
08:14The rookie out of Kansas, Quinton Skinner.
08:17A 26-yard completion.
08:19The Kansas Jayhawk just got the pass from the Kansas State Wildcat.
08:24They are mortal enemies, I think.
08:28That was a nice catch.
08:30Catano Oladopo just losing his man at the line of scrimmage.
08:34Knows they got a little stunt game going on up front.
08:37It gets the pressure, but unfortunately, unable to break up the pass.
08:43Longest point of night by either team is a first down.
08:46Here is Edwards, the Michigan Wolverine, running back.
08:48And he runs right into Baron Sorrell.
08:51Rookie out of Texas.
08:52They like him.
08:53He went up the middle.
08:54Looks like a player might be down slow to get up for the pack.
08:57Gain of six as the ball goes into Packer territory at the 49.
09:04Man, it doesn't matter.
09:05Offense, defense, special teams, first quarter, second quarter, third quarter.
09:09The Jets came in here ready to play.
09:12But you know what?
09:13They haven't had a winning.
09:14They've had nine consecutive losing seasons.
09:17But they came into the preseason game, number one, ready to play.
09:22Ready to play.
09:23And you know what, Kevin?
09:24We can talk about preseason, and there's all kinds of slogans and taglines and things you can throw down there.
09:29But for Aaron Glenn, in his first game, preseason game or not, like I said, they want to come out here.
09:35They all want to play.
09:37Now the floor's not going to leave this game feeling happy at all.
09:40Not at all.
09:41That guy, Aaron Glenn, he will.
09:43Zach Coons, the tight end, just picked up 12.
09:47Zach Coons, Valentine makes the stop.
09:49Do you think they'll get that going in New York?
09:56Can they get that going there in New York?
09:58That's why I wanted to say it twice.
09:59They should.
10:02I wanted to do it.
10:03Yep.
10:18Aaron Glenn.
10:21And here it's a 5-12 team.
10:2414 playoff years of drought from the postseason.
10:32Nine straight losing seasons.
10:35Hit the pitch out here.
10:36Here comes Edwards.
10:38Oh, turns the corner well.
10:40With a flag thrown on that first and 10, wheeling his way to the Green Bay 31.
10:49Holding offense, number 77.
10:5210-yard penalty remains for a stat.
10:55Marquise Hayes, who was on the Green Bay practice squad at one time.
10:59Now a jet.
11:00Holding there on the second level.
11:02But you can see a nice little play here out of the jets.
11:04Come down and pick Sorrell, the edge, with the wide receiver.
11:09That's something you can catch these young guys with early on in their careers
11:13because they don't really know what's all going on around them.
11:16They're locked in the quarterback.
11:17They're locked in the quarterback.
11:18Boom, the ball gets snapped.
11:19A little wide receiver from the side.
11:20Catches him by surprise.
11:23Ball goes outside.
11:24It's a spot foul.
11:25It's back to the 45 at Green Bay.
11:27And it's first and 18.
11:31Martinez again.
11:34That's the pocket.
11:35Underneath he goes.
11:36Caught here by the running back.
11:37Edwards.
11:38Getting a nice block downfield from Jamal Pritchett.
11:41And then run out of bounds on the play by Jonathan Baldwin.
11:43In the secondary, a catch and run of 21 yards to the Green Bay 24 and a first down.
11:51And again, just like they started the football game.
11:55Soft over the middle, underneath the zone.
11:57This time Edwards catching it while he's moving allows him to create after the catching and get a lot more yards.
12:04Edwards played on that national championship Michigan Wolverine team a couple years ago for coach Jim Harbaugh.
12:15First down and 10 after the 21-yard catch and run by the running back going underneath.
12:20And he gets the handoff here.
12:21And he busts down the middle.
12:23Right to the 12.
12:25Hit by Johnson.
12:26Gains 11.
12:27Another first down for the Jets.
12:29Edwards has got his fingerprints all over this New York Jet drive.
12:37And it looks like they'll let the clock run to the fourth quarter.
12:42It's been all Jets in the debut of first-year head coach Aaron Glenn.
12:47And they take a lead to the fourth quarter over Green Bay 24 to 3.
12:52How many times do you see 333 versus 92?
13:01But through three quarters, that is the story here in Lambeau Field.
13:05Preseason game number one.
13:07A couple turnovers by the Packers.
13:10Love played the first couple drives.
13:11One of five.
13:12And the Jets are moving again on this drive.
13:18They got a 26-yard pass completion.
13:21Koontz, the tight end, caught one for 12.
13:23Edwards has been huge.
13:25The running back, the rookie free agent out of Michigan.
13:2721-yard catch and run.
13:2911-yard run moments ago.
13:31And a first and 10 to start the fourth at the Green Bay 13.
13:34Martinez in to the end zone.
13:40And it was out of bounds.
13:43Caught put out of play.
13:45And then Pritchett was in the vicinity.
13:47Got the ball but was not in.
13:49Second down and 10.
13:52And that was darn close, Kevin.
13:56Martinez put that ball right where it needed to be.
13:58And here's Pritchett.
13:59Let's see.
14:01One and does not get the left foot down in bounds.
14:04Nice effort by the kid.
14:05Great effort.
14:07Pritchett led the FBS last year in yards after catch national.
14:15And he was one of eight receivers in college football.
14:18With over 80 receptions and over 1,000 yards.
14:21As the running back, Donovan Edwards,
14:25climbs his way down to the nine,
14:28gaining four, third down and six.
14:31And a third down and six with you down.
14:3421 points in this football game.
14:36A preseason football game.
14:38But you're out here trying to make a football team.
14:40You're out here trying to make a name for yourself, for this team.
14:45Malifor is going to watch every single one of these plays
14:48and scrutinize every single one of these plays.
14:50It's time for this defense to step up and make a play.
14:55Edwards, the running back.
14:57Martinez with a third and six,
14:58the third different quarterback for the Jets tonight at the Green Bay 9.
15:02And a timeout for New York.
15:05Jets will take time.
15:06New York.
15:07Their first.
15:09This will be a 30-second timeout.
15:11Putting the delay of game here.
15:12You see him sprinting down the sidelines there?
15:15Last year, the Jets in that 5-12 season had six losses
15:20with fourth quarter leads with Aaron Rodgers quarterback.
15:25Yeah, we talked about that to exhaustion last year.
15:30And it did not work, Aaron Rodgers going that.
15:33We know he got injured his first year.
15:35We know how hard it is to come back from an Achilles.
15:38But I'll tell you what, Kevin, towards the end of that season,
15:40he looked good.
15:41That ball started spinning a little tighter.
15:43And you should know.
15:44You've played with him, yeah.
15:45I just, I think he's looking at redemption this year in Pittsburgh.
15:49And a completely different kind of culture.
15:52Yes.
15:54Jets have two timeouts.
15:55Took one right there.
15:56Third down six at the Green Bay 9.
16:00Martinez with Edwards.
16:04The quarterback to the end zone and incomplete.
16:08He was aiming for Quentin Skinner.
16:10The coverage on the play by Kaelin King.
16:14And they'll try for three.
16:16Esther with the pressure.
16:20Boy, a good-looking drive with a lot of big chunk plays through the air
16:25and on the ground for New York.
16:26And Donovan Edwards.
16:28Wow.
16:28Big man on that drive.
16:29He was.
16:30So, Mivas is going to try a 27-yard field goal for New York.
16:45He gets it.
16:4927-yard field goal.
16:50And Aaron Glenn's Jets have taken a 27-3 lead over the Packers a minute into the fourth quarter.
16:58Right here in Lambeau Field after storms and tornado warnings earlier today.
17:02North of here, some real damage.
17:06They had some straight line winds.
17:08You had some uprooted trees where you are.
17:11And we're thinking of all those folks north of Green Bay.
17:17With Abanaconda taking it out for the Packers.
17:22Finding it down.
17:23He's looked good tonight.
17:24He's had to.
17:25This is a big display for him.
17:28Rashad Weaver makes the stop.
17:30The former Texan.
17:3136-yard return.
17:34And the ball's on to the 35.
17:35Kevin, Matt LaFleur talked about the mindset and how his mindset on preseason games has changed over the years.
17:42When he came in, he inherited a primarily veteran team.
17:45And now they're looking like they're going to be the youngest team in the league for the third year in a row.
17:50Amazing, John.
17:51For the third year in a row.
17:52And he said, when we have a young team like this, we have to get playing time.
17:56We have to get reps.
17:57Now, the plan is to go down and have joint practices next week and potentially not have to play the starters in that game.
18:02But I wonder if a poor performance like this could potentially make Matt LaFleur think how he goes about preseason game number two.
18:10Hard running here by Amar Johnson.
18:13A 14-yard first down run.
18:15And he takes it near midfield and moves it for Green Bay.
18:19That's one of the biggest plays of the night.
18:2114-yard pickup on the ground.
18:24A belt and set in the edge.
18:27And Johnson just bursting through there.
18:28Getting on the second level.
18:29Break a tackle there.
18:31Finish out of bounds.
18:31Don't finish on the ground.
18:33Don't finish on the ground if you're a running back.
18:34Even if they knock you out of bounds, that's the stuff you like to see.
18:38That's the stuff that Matt LaFleur wanted to see this entire second half.
18:42Amar Johnson bringing a little bit of energy here late in his ballgame.
18:45And he gives the Packers their first first down of the second half.
18:50On the 50, Johnson in the backfield.
18:52Quarterback, Eshawn Clifford.
18:54First and 10, Johnson again.
18:55So let's talk a bit about Clifford.
18:56He was the third quarterback and spent all of last season on the practice squad.
19:02After playing in a couple games back in 2023 at Penn State.
19:06We know he is the all-time completion percentage leader.
19:10Passing yard leader quarterback wins.
19:13No quarterback is one more Penn State than Clifford.
19:17Number four in Big Ten history.
19:20In touchdown passing.
19:21I mean a very decorated quarterback.
19:24Very decorated.
19:25A lot of reps.
19:26A lot of time spent in there.
19:28Second down and eight.
19:30Chase there by McGregor.
19:31Gets it outside.
19:33Cornelius Johnson with the catch.
19:35And it's a first down catch at the end to the 39.
19:38It's a pickup of nine.
19:39Cornelius Johnson out of Michigan.
19:40Makes the gram.
19:41Look at that.
19:46Scramble rule.
19:47Cornelius Johnson is outside.
19:49Or Sean Clifford was outside the pocket.
19:50Cornelius Johnson takes it up the field.
19:53Then stops.
19:54Turns back around.
19:55That gets that little extra yardage there right by the stick so that Clifford can put it on.
19:59He'd spend most of last year on the Green Bay practice squad.
20:02Gaining nine.
20:0339 of the Jets.
20:04First and 10 for Green Bay.
20:07Clifford.
20:08Johnson.
20:09Nice block in there.
20:10That is a Green Bay touchdown.
20:20What a play with the quarterback, Clifford, leading the way.
20:2839-yard touchdown run.
20:31Amar Johnson.
20:41Amar Johnson.
20:44Nice pancake block there out of Belton.
20:47The big fella.
20:48And Amar Johnson again breaking a tackle.
20:52Taking what the offensive line has created for you.
20:54And getting even more.
20:56And even Sean Clifford.
20:57Listen.
20:57There's a thing about Sean Clifford.
20:59He's never going to take it easy.
21:01He's always going to be out there trying to make some plays.
21:04And he's always going to be celebrating with his teammates.
21:07Here's the extra point.
21:08McManus knocks it through.
21:11Packers get on the board with a touchdown right there.
21:14The first touchdown of the night.
21:15And it's turned in by the rookie three-engine out of South Dakota State.
21:20And Amar Johnson flies into the end zone for six for the Packers.
21:33Oh, here we go.
21:34Yeah.
21:34Here we go, John.
21:37You talk about this big block by 71, the biggest guy in their offensive line.
21:42Yeah, the Belton over here at right tackle climbing to the second level.
21:46And when you want him running back to run through a hole, you make it that big.
21:49Finish on top of your defender.
21:51And now it's Amar Johnson breaking the tackle, getting a little assist there from Sean Clifford
21:56as he makes his way into the end zone for his first touchdown as a Packer.
22:00The ensuing kickoff.
22:08And it will be taken by Griffith inside the five.
22:14And then swerves.
22:15There was a flag thrown.
22:17Odapo makes the stop.
22:1924-yard return.
22:21They're still discussing down there.
22:32Got our money's worth with the refs tonight.
22:34Made them work.
22:34Yep.
22:35But you know, it's good.
22:36They got to get their...
22:37There's go-file in the play for a little block to bat.
22:39First down, New York.
22:41Got to get their gears in order.
22:44So, a play of the game brought to you by Capital Credit Union.
22:47And this is the longest run going back a couple years.
22:55It's longer than any rush the Packers had last season.
22:58That's crazy to think about.
23:00It's hard to digest.
23:04First and ten.
23:06Martinez.
23:08With the handoff here.
23:11Edwards.
23:12And at the bottom of the pile, I think it was Keith Randolph, who's out of Illinois.
23:16It's a gain of four.
23:18And he's up to the 27-yard line.
23:20Eleven minutes left.
23:22You know what I want to see?
23:24Ball king mentality.
23:27We'll talk about that.
23:27The defense is out here.
23:29Listen, this is an emphasis that they make.
23:30This team was fourth in the NFL generating turnovers last year defensively.
23:35And Jeff Hathaway said, it's not enough.
23:37We can cause more fumbles.
23:40Insert Wendell Davis and the ball king.
23:42They call him BK because he had created something.
23:45Uh-oh.
23:46Second down, six.
23:47And he's off to the races.
23:49Flag is thrown.
23:50And Donovan Edwards chased to the end zone.
23:53Touchdown.
23:54And we'll see what the flag is all about.
23:5773 yards.
23:58It's against the Jets.
23:59Wipe it away.
24:01Holding.
24:02Off it.
24:02Number 50.
24:04Ten-yard penalty.
24:06And A's take it down.
24:10Laval picked it up.
24:13Number 60.
24:19Or do they say 50?
24:22Hard to see a lot of negligence on that one.
24:27Nonetheless.
24:28It was on Fort Adele.
24:30It gets backed up.
24:31Yep.
24:31Downstairs to Ashley.
24:37I've got Todd Ed Tucker cropped down here.
24:39There was a lot of buzz heading into this game about the ones being able to play.
24:43Just your overall consensus of how you guys did.
24:45And did it feel good just to be able to get a couple hits in there?
24:47Yeah, I mean, it felt great just to be out here getting in the huddle again,
24:50going through the game operation, you know, when it's official.
24:54So, you know, we just stuck with our, you know, day one install stuff.
24:59We weren't trying to come out here and wow any fans.
25:01They need to understand that it's really not.
25:04I mean, it is.
25:04It's for us procedural to get out there and go through the movements, you know,
25:09and still try to play competitive football.
25:11But heads up.
25:12It's also great, you know, guys coming out here, playing on a new team for the first
25:19time, putting themselves in the correct position to make plays.
25:21Well, going back to you, you had a really busy offseason, both you and your wife.
25:25You're officially a father.
25:26Congrats to the both of you guys.
25:27How has that transition been to fatherhood?
25:29And in a way, how has it inspired you heading into this fall?
25:31Yeah, so she was born on the second and then I had 20 days until camp started.
25:37So I was a diaper changing machine there for a while, just trying to do everything I could
25:41to alleviate any work that, you know, my wife would have to do postpartum.
25:45So, yeah, that flew by already.
25:49She's already over a month old and just, I'm just, you know, thankful every day I get to go home.
25:56Incredible.
25:56Congrats to the both of you.
25:57Last question, as you head into year three, what's the biggest thing you've been working on
26:01and what have you seen just in that connection grow with Jordan Love?
26:05Yeah, so I was trying to be more fluent, you know, more smooth, being able to separate
26:10more in man coverage this offseason.
26:12I've been working a lot on that.
26:15So, yeah, that relationship is built and that timing has built with Jordan.
26:20And, you know, we're just putting all the pieces of the puzzle together and getting ready
26:23for week one.
26:24Thanks, Tucker, and good luck this season.
26:26There's another kid from South Dakota State from Timberlake High School in South Dakota.
26:31He was a terrific high school basketball player there as well.
26:35Breakout season last year.
26:36Ash, thank you very much.
26:37Not playing tonight.
26:38Groin injury.
26:39First and ten.
26:41And Edwards wrapped up on the line.
26:44Gain a one.
26:45Hit by Esther, the first-year player from Northern Illinois.
26:49Second and nine coming up.
26:51Yeah, and you talk about Tucker Craft and breakout season last year, and you start to wonder how
26:58high is the ceiling for the young fella.
27:00Right.
27:00I think all around, tight end, blocking.
27:04They rely on catching the football.
27:05Yes, blocking, running after the catch, catching the football.
27:09Everything that he does, he does at such a high level.
27:12And I think he can be, Kevin, one of the top tight ends in the National Football League this season.
27:18It's nothing down and nine.
27:20And Martinez quickly outside.
27:23And he finds Pritchett.
27:25Look at him.
27:25It's always as slippery as they come.
27:28And on a day with all this rain, as slippery as a raindrop, he's out near the 45.
27:33He picks up six and makes a third down and three with the clock ticking.
27:39Packers scored last possession, and the Jets trying to respond.
27:46A little bit of good and a bad on that replay.
27:48You see a lot of Packers diving and flailing and missing some tackles, but you see other Packers rallying around the football.
27:54Not allowing that to turn into a first down.
27:56A lot of population around the football.
27:58Now we've got to show that up and make sure that ball carrier gets on the ground with his short tackle.
28:06They're down in three.
28:08Martinez being pressured by Brinson.
28:11On the move, hits the deck, slides his way near the 49 of Green Bay.
28:16He's got the first down, picking up six on third and three for the Jets.
28:21And a lot of times in these preseason games, the routes aren't run exactly the way they're supposed to be run.
28:29The timing gets thrown off.
28:31A block gets missed up front.
28:33A check is not heard.
28:35And it's about what do you make of a play that's not always there.
28:39And right there you saw Martinez getting out of the pocket, using his legs, and extending this football drive.
28:44Great high school in Fresno, California.
28:50First and ten.
28:51And the handoff here to Lawrence Toefeli, a rookie free agent out of Florida State.
29:01And he'll maneuver for about ten.
29:03Nine for sure.
29:05Nine and a half, we'll call it.
29:06He's inside the 40 of Green Bay.
29:10Nine and a half, nine and three quarters.
29:12Nine and three quarters, yep.
29:13That was a hard nine and three quarters there by Toefeli.
29:16It was.
29:18Right up the gut.
29:19Yep.
29:20Put his pads down.
29:23And got a good run out of the young fella.
29:25Have you seen anything from 93 Stackhouse tonight?
29:27Because I know one defense is the thing he works on.
29:30They're most excited about what he can do with the second one.
29:35And again, it's Toa Feely, who picks up three and a first down for the Jets.
29:42Well, when you make Stackhouse or one of the big interior D linemen of players to watch
29:47for the game, you've got to watch a lot of double teams.
29:51He paces a lot of double teams down in there just like he did on that last play.
29:55So for a guy like him, taking up space, taking up blockers, consuming the field so that the
30:00linebackers can get downhill and make the tackles, that's how he primarily gets great.
30:05We told you before, the quarterback for the Jets, Martinez, finished last year at K-State.
30:09He began at Nebraska, where he started as a freshman.
30:13Head coach, then head coach Scott Frost.
30:16Oh, look at the nice run right here, spinning off defenders Edwards.
30:20And then he is brought down by Keith Randolph.
30:24It's a gain of four.
30:26There is Golden, the number one pick.
30:28And a first-round wide receiver selection in this most recent draft by Green Bay.
30:33Had himself a nice route, a catch earlier in the football game out there with the ones.
30:38Obviously, he's going to come out here and watch later in the ballgame.
30:41But, Kevin, I'm telling you, this kid, he's shown a lot at practice.
30:44There's a lot of reason to be excited about the first-round wide receiver taken by the
30:49Green Bay Packers in some time.
30:51And Golden is the total package.
30:52Second down and six.
30:56Running back is Edwards now.
30:59And Martinez.
31:00Oh, a nice block by the player who was just called for a penalty as the backpedaling running back, Edwards,
31:08takes it for seven.
31:10A block opened up by Fournidale.
31:13Number 50 got that gap so that Edwards could find it to the Green Bay 26 in a first down.
31:22Drive over seven minutes by the Jets.
31:25They came out here with a physical mentality.
31:27Started the first drive with Justin Fields, and they haven't taken their foot off the gas
31:32no matter who has entered this party.
31:40Millie, the receiver in motion, Martinez.
31:43Rale for first and ten.
31:47Hand-off here.
31:49To Ophelia.
31:50Will not pick up any yards.
31:52Maybe the length of a football, but that's about it.
31:57Well, this is going to be a happy trip home for the Jets, who are just grasping at anything positive
32:03as they truly turn the page and start a new chapter.
32:06Yeah, they're trying to start an entire, not even a chapter, they're trying to write a new book in New York.
32:12They're trying to change the identity all the way.
32:15Offense, defense, special teams, and they're trying to make a way in a very tough AFC East that's been owned by the Bills for how long?
32:22You mentioned it earlier tonight, Kevin.
32:24The longest playoff drive out of any professional team.
32:26Martinez bobbles that snap just a bit until Ophelia will take it, burrowing his way to the 21, picks up five.
32:37It'll be third and five for the New York Jets.
32:39So the Packers, and you just said this a minute ago, have had the youngest team in pro football the last two years.
32:46They've been to the playoffs the last two years.
32:49They could easily, again, as you say, for a third consecutive year, still be playoff caliber again with the youngest roster.
32:56Yeah, and, you know, I've spoken with Brian Gutekunst about this, and some of this is by design, right?
33:03It started by design a few years ago, and it's not always going to be this way, but they are draft and develop and to build from within.
33:11And because of that, you generally are a younger team.
33:14But they don't feel like this team is as young as their age, Kevin.
33:17They feel like this team has matured the last few years, and a lot of the players that might be young in age are long in experience,
33:25especially playoff experience that they've gotten down there in Dallas, Santa Clara the year before, and then last year, Philadelphia.
33:33So this team has been through some battles already.
33:37They're looking to take the next step with the experience that they have already been exposed to.
33:41Kalen King coming up with the beautiful defensive play in the end zone for Green Bay.
33:45Now here is a 39-yard field goal try by Harrison Meebus.
33:50Snack is there.
33:54The kick is good.
33:56Drills it.
33:57With under three to go, they tack on Moore.
34:00They lead by 20.
34:0130-10.
34:03The Jets on an 8-minute and 54-second drive.
34:09Back at Lambeau in Green Bay, the turning point brought to you by Toyota.
34:12The turning point of the game is brought to you by your Wisconsin Toyota dealers.
34:16Toyota's national sales event is on.
34:19Toyota lets go places.
34:21Big defensive play by the Jets.
34:23Recovering a loose ball, man's own 4-6.
34:27It was a 7-3 ball game at that point in time, and oh boy, the Jets took that play and never looked back.
34:36I'm into these drone shots.
34:38Are you?
34:38Do you like these things?
34:39Well, I'm flying the drone, so I've got to be.
34:42What?
34:43That's why I'm flying the drone, for you.
34:45Oh, that's what you're doing over there.
34:47I wasn't sure what you were doing over there.
34:49Here's the kickoff.
34:51And you can see how deep it is.
34:53They leave it there.
34:54And a touchback.
34:57So the Packers will have three timeouts.
34:59Nevis again.
35:01Nice kick.
35:04Julian Hicks, he's out of Albany.
35:06He'll stay in the game.
35:06Oh, and they got the Canadian drafted quarterback, Taylor El-Gersma, in.
35:14He played Canadian college football, which plays with the wide field, but 12 players and not 11.
35:23So he's had to get used to a field that isn't as wide and one less player.
35:29That's a lot of math.
35:30That's math.
35:31No, as Matt LaFleur called it.
35:33He's drinking water from a fire hose right now because there's so many different things coming out of him.
35:38Not only is he trying to learn his professional playbook, but he's trying to learn the rules of a game that he's played for so long that are just different.
35:46He's got great metrics.
35:48Here is Israel Abana Kanda, who takes it and knocked down by a couple of Goodrichs over there and others.
35:55So here is a look at El-Gersma, who is one of the very few players ever in the history of the NFL to be drafted from a Canadian college.
36:09But boy, was he good up there.
36:12The last one.
36:14Well, I'll take that back.
36:15I'm going to have to go back and look.
36:16I'm doing this on the fly, but Canadian college football in Canada is very similar to D1, D2, and D3 in the United States.
36:25There was a completion at midfield, which was grabbed on the play by Will Shepard.
36:31You see a little bit there.
36:33You talked about his size.
36:35He can also swing a fastball.
36:37That thing was on a string right there to Will Shepard across the middle.
36:41But that feels pretty good for him, right?
36:44Sure.
36:44You're down here trying to learn this whole game, but you know your talents.
36:48You come out in your first preseason game, first completion.
36:51It's the two-minute warning with the Jets on top by 20.
36:55All right, the two-minute warning here in Green Bay.
37:00Jets in command.
37:01They've been that way all night long.
37:04And the young quarterback competing for the number three role, Taylor El-Gersma, with his college football played at Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada.
37:15With a first and ten and throws right here and behind the receiver and incomplete.
37:20And he was zeroing in on newly signed Isaiah Nair, who is a rookie free agent who played at Nebraska, Texas, and Wyoming.
37:29Here's the Cenex ground game numbers tonight.
37:32And they're not great for Green Bay, at least for the Jets.
37:38They've been able to get a lot.
37:43They've run the ball, controlled the clock, and thus the score.
37:50Bonaconda is in.
37:53Second down and ten.
37:54And working inside.
37:57So this El-Gersma, who's in, won the Heisman equivalent in Canadian college football.
38:06They called, I was going to say they called the Kuhn Award, but they don't.
38:10It's a Heisman here.
38:11I don't know what they call it up there.
38:13But the college is in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
38:17And he was a second-round pick in the CFL draft by Winnipeg.
38:22And, by the way, there's a Super Bowl-winning quarterback who was born in Canada, undrafted, came to the NFL.
38:30Can you name who that was?
38:31Third and nine.
38:34Not even going to try.
38:35I'm not even going to take the time.
38:37He gets it out to Johnny Lumpkin, who's drilled pretty hard there.
38:41And he's shy of the first down, picks up four when he needed more.
38:44It's fourth down.
38:46And they'll keep the offense on the field.
38:49Mark Rippon.
38:50Oh, Washington.
38:52Mark Rippon is the only undrafted, Canadian-born NFL quarterback to win a Super Bowl.
39:02He had a great trio of receivers.
39:05Yes, he did.
39:06Not many, if any, Canadian college players have ever made an NFL roster.
39:14Mark Rippon played college ball in the States.
39:19Fourth and five.
39:20Al-Gerzma, he's got the first down.
39:23It's caught there by Will Shepard, who played at Colorado, and Shadur Sanders was throwing him passes there.
39:28You know, if anybody doubted your work ethic, all the information you threw at us here in this fourth quarter,
39:35just since Al-Gerzma has come in the game, is why you've come to listen to Kevin Arley.
39:41And I've got more.
39:42That's why you've come to listen.
39:43Tune in next week at 12 Central.
39:45I've got more on him.
39:46That's going to be it.
39:49Zeros on the clock.
39:50The Jets have won in Aaron Glenn's debut as a head coach.
39:54Fields had a 13-yard rushing quarterback run for a touchdown.
40:00That got the Jets on the way.
40:01They win by 20.
40:03We'll take a break and come back to Lambeau after this on the Packers Television Network.
