00:00Welcome back, we are moments away from kicking you off game number two of the preseason for both the Indianapolis Colts and the Green Bay Packers, Greg Rakestraw, Rick Venturi, and now let's get it for the first of many.
00:11Toyota Sideline reports, here's the third member of our crew, Lara Overton.
00:15Well, throughout the preseason, head coach Shane Steichen has preached competition, and that is evident on the defensive side of the ball with the addition of not only veteran players, but guys who have experience winning big games and making deep playoff runs.
00:29One veteran told me it's the standard we have. We expect to go to the playoffs. That's what we come in to work for. There is a sense of urgency with that group.
00:38He told me DeForest Buckner is going into year 10. Kenny Moore is going into year 9. Then with the additions of Tarverius Ward and Cam Bynum, there's urgency to get there again.
00:47Buckner told me that Ward and Bynum have been tremendous for this defense with the energy and leadership they've brought.
00:53Joe Bocci, who spent four years with Lou Anarumo in Cincinnati, told me he sees glimpses of those 21 and 22 Cincy defenses that went to back-to-back AFC championships.
01:05Bocci telling me we had a really good front, really good back end, and smart linebackers, and that's exactly what I see here.
01:12Lara, thank you very much. We will see that Indianapolis Colts defense first.
01:15While we were away, the Green Bay Packers won the toss, and they want the football.
01:20So it'll be the Colts D on the field first, but what would any Colts event be without Blue?
01:27The best mascot in all of sports. He gets the nod for the preseason opener. It's time to bang the anvil.
01:34The 2025 season is here.
01:45Yes, Blue in all his glory. Thank you so much for joining us, Rick. Final thoughts before we kick this one off.
01:51Well, first of all, Blue is also a great guy. He saved me a year ago.
01:54Blue has been known to change the tire of a Venturi machine, yes.
01:57But, you know, I can't wait to see our starters go live tonight, period.
02:01Really excited about that. We'll be talking about that and their backups as the night goes on.
02:07On to kick the ball away, Spencer Schrader.
02:10Again, he and Maddox Trujillo are the kickers on the roster.
02:14As expected, Schrader has won the job at this point in time.
02:18Green Bay does have a series of talented return men on this roster.
02:23Again, the second year of our dynamic kickoff.
02:25Remember, if there is a touchback, the ball comes out to the 35-yard line.
02:31Yeah, and we've got to clean that coverage up a little bit from last week.
02:35That was a problem.
02:36The ball fielded at the 14-yard line, and game number two is underway
02:40and bringing it back to the 36-yard line.
02:46Packers on the return.
02:48That is Corey Ballantyne, who was in camp with the Colts until about two weeks ago
02:52and got picked back up by the Packers.
02:55Malik Willis, he got two starts last year, one of them against the Colts
03:00and a 16-10 win in week number two, drafted by the Titans a couple of seasons ago.
03:07Now second year is Jordan Love's backup.
03:09He is out with a left thumb injury.
03:11He'll be ready for week one on September the 7th.
03:16Willis was 12-14 in that game against the Colts last year.
03:20And a handoff, left side, loss of one on the play.
03:24Time now for our Toyota starting lineups, presented by your Central Indiana Toyota dealers.
03:29Toyota, the official vehicle of the Colts.
03:33A lot of twos on that list for the Green Bay Packers in today's game.
03:38A bunch of the Colts starters coming up here in a matter of moments.
03:41We are seeing mostly, other than injury exceptions,
03:46mostly starters on the field now for Indianapolis.
03:50Yep, that's that starting lineup in there on defense with, as you said,
03:54with some injury adjustments.
03:57Bynum and Ward, two of the big free agent pickups are in the game.
04:00Willis overthrown, tip pass.
04:04Lloyd was the intended target.
04:05And now the Colts starters, Robert Stewart, was in there.
04:10DeForest Buckner, in there to start the game as well.
04:13Your thoughts on the additions of Ward and Bynum, Rick?
04:15Yeah, you're talking about two premier guys
04:17who are going to allow us to be much, much more aggressive on defense,
04:22which Lou wants to do.
04:24So third down and 11.
04:26There you see DeForest Buckner entering his 10th season.
04:29This is season number six of being with the Indianapolis Colts.
04:32For simply put, one of the best defensive tackles in football.
04:36Colts bring four.
04:38Willis, ball caught, right at the first down marker.
04:43We do have a virtual measurement system these days.
04:47It appears this one is going to be short.
04:50A gain of 10 on third and 11.
04:52Yeah, and one thing you know, whoever plays opposite Ward,
04:56in that case, you know, in that case it's Edwards.
04:59That guy's going to get worked over.
05:01Pretty good coverage, just couldn't get it out.
05:03Again, almost Colts injury as a cornerback, too numerous to mention.
05:06Packers going to go for it here.
05:08On fourth and short, just shy of their own 46-yard line.
05:12Heavy front, nine-man front for the Colts.
05:15On the handoff.
05:17Should be enough for a first down,
05:18but I believe a flag came out there behind the play.
05:22Either a flag or somebody's mouthpiece.
05:24One of the two.
05:24It may have been the latter.
05:25Looks like no flag, first down for the Packers.
05:30Chris Brooks was the ball carrier.
05:31Yeah, basically, you know, basically they just ran a little zone play,
05:35just walled us up enough to get downhill,
05:38just backed us up enough to get downhill.
05:40Now we've got to start over.
05:41That was a big third down completion for them to get back to fourth and inches.
05:45When the Packers played the Colts with Willis as the starting quarterback last year,
05:4867 offensive snaps, 53 rushes, 14 passes in that Week 2 victory.
05:56That's a heavy dose of the run game again.
05:58Bocce is in the tackle after a gain of four.
06:01Marshawn Lloyd, the ball carrier for the Packers.
06:03Yeah, and in that game, it just killed us.
06:06Again, this is a little cutback,
06:08and if you see, they're trying to work back against the grain,
06:11and that's a good job by Edwards in there, number 35,
06:15stepping up into the hole and keeping that play to a minimum.
06:18Again, the Packers had 269 yards,
06:22and that broke our back up there in Green Bay a year ago.
06:25Primarily the twos.
06:26You see kind of a mix along the offensive line for the Packers.
06:29It is mostly starters for Shane Steichen and Lou Anarumo so far.
06:34Second and seven.
06:38On the handoff, nowhere to go.
06:39Again, Marshawn Lloyd, the ball carrier,
06:41does spin away from the first tackle ball, top three,
06:45but it is ruled down.
06:46Gain of two, third and five.
06:48Yeah, pretty solid there on the right side.
06:50Good job of coming down from the backside.
06:53Wohler's around it.
06:54He's been a guy that's been a hitting machine
06:56at that strong safety position,
06:58and with crossout, he's playing a lot with the number ones.
07:01Now we get our first third and five.
07:04This is a man in field.
07:05This is really the money down in the NFL,
07:07that third and four to seven,
07:09because that's a 50-50 down either way.
07:11What a moment for Hunter Wohler.
07:12He is a Wisconsin kid playing against the Green Bay Packers.
07:17Third down and five.
07:20Pulse bring five.
07:23Willis, deep ball.
07:26Incomplete pass.
07:27A little bit of hand fighting going both ways,
07:29and it's the undrafted free agent in Jonathan Edwards with the coverage.
07:33As I told you, that corner opposite Ward is going to,
07:36no matter who it is this season, he's going to earn his letter.
07:41Here we come.
07:42They brought Batchy here.
07:43They brought an extra guy into the hunt,
07:45and there's Batchy right in the face of the quarterback.
07:49Batchy, a veteran special teams player in Cincinnati,
07:53but knows Luana Rumo's system and has fared very well.
07:57Now on fourth down, Green Bay's going to go for it again.
08:01Already one fourth down conversion on the drive.
08:03They'll go for it here on fourth down and five.
08:05Again, cold spring five.
08:08Willis finds a man.
08:11First down.
08:12Great job by Willis to keep the play alive.
08:15Wohler makes the tackle.
08:17John Fitzpatrick on the grab for the Packers.
08:19Yeah, that's all on Willis.
08:20I mean, we had five guys coming.
08:22We had him cupped.
08:23He kept moving and ended up.
08:25It's very hard to hold the coverage that long
08:28and basically was able just to find a crease and get it out.
08:32Fitzpatrick had one catch a season ago.
08:35Listed as the third tight end on the Packers depth chart.
08:40Willis engineered victories over both Indianapolis and Tennessee
08:43early in the season while Jordan Love was out due to injury.
08:46On the handoff again.
08:47Colts have been largely good against the run so far.
08:50Chris Brooks was the ball carrier.
08:53Flag on the play.
08:55Atabare was right there and, you know, in there to make the hit.
09:04No question about it.
09:04The run defense is solid.
09:06Also, McGrone was in there.
09:08Face mask defense over 95.
09:1015-yard penalty out to the end of the run.
09:12Yeah, can't hurt yourself.
09:14Unfortunately, Rick's fellow Northwestern Wildcat, Aditamua Atabare, called for the face mask.
09:19Yeah.
09:20Adi's in there on the left side as he comes down the line of scrimmage.
09:24You know, he kind of fights through.
09:26It's a little bit of a picky call, but really tough call when you're around the 30-yard line.
09:30Now you get it right down to the fringe of the red zone.
09:34And penalties are really costly when they come going in or coming out because, basically, those are the two critical areas.
09:41Already four and a half minutes off the clock here in this opening drive for the Packers.
09:45And a pair of fourth down conversions.
09:47Play clock is at one.
09:54It's the snap in time.
09:56Willis looks to escape the pocket.
09:58What timing to at least attempt the pass.
10:01It is an incomplete pass.
10:03Good pressure by the Colts.
10:04Could not get the sack.
10:06Intended target that time was Marshawn Lloyd.
10:08Yeah, and Lewis bringing somebody every play.
10:11He brought, he brought, uh, Roller the play before.
10:14That time he brings the safety.
10:16He, we're getting action right there.
10:18That's, that's Lamar on the other side.
10:20Forces a bad throw.
10:23Uh, good for us, though, because if he catches it, there was nothing there.
10:27But a lot of pressure.
10:28A lot of blitz in here early.
10:30Now Willis impressive with his footwork in the backfield so far.
10:34It's only that earned the second fourth down conversion the Packers had on the drive.
10:38Eleventh play of the drive.
10:41Again, Willis feeling pressure.
10:43Grover Stewart giving chase.
10:44And this one.
10:46Out of bounds.
10:47Chris Lamont's in coverage for Indianapolis.
10:50Yeah, we brought Lamont back a week ago.
10:53And, and basically he's now become the backup nickel.
10:56This is just a really good job of what we call plastering.
11:00Meaning you stay and you plaster that receiver as long as you have to.
11:04Particularly a guy like Willis.
11:06You know he's going to buy time.
11:07He's already done it three times today.
11:09And you've got to hold that coverage.
11:11There can't be a clock in your head.
11:13You've got to hold it until it's over.
11:15Luana Rumo made the move up I-74 from Cincinnati, of course.
11:19Colts at Bengals to wrap the preseason seven days from now.
11:22Third down and ten.
11:24And looking for the end zone.
11:26And knocked away.
11:27And again, it's Lamont's in coverage.
11:31This would be his third season with the Colts if he makes the roster a couple of weeks from now.
11:36Yeah, he's on the slot right here.
11:38You're going to see him.
11:39Just good bump and run all over him.
11:41Gets his head turned at the last minute.
11:44Excellent strip.
11:45Excellent knockout of the ball right there.
11:47That's really encouraging because when we lost Wally, we also lost the backup to Kenny.
11:53So, Lamont is critical to us right now.
11:57That was the veteran McCole Hardman that was the intended target.
12:00And this is the backup kicker in Mark McNamee from Ireland.
12:05His background, Gaelic football.
12:09Pulls that one wide left.
12:11So, nothing comes in the long drive for the Packers.
12:13We'll see the Colts offense when we come back to Lucas Oil Stadium.
12:21It's here to win a VIP trip for two to Tennessee to watch the Colts on September 21st.
12:27End of the rivalry road trip sweepstakes presented by Wagner-Reese at colts.com slash Wagner-Reese.
12:34And, of course, the first road trip of the season for the Indianapolis Colts.
12:36They will open at home on both September the 7th and 14th.
12:41Anthony Richardson, he'll be in soon enough.
12:43After having his appearance shortened by that dislocated right pinky for which he didn't miss a single rep in practice this week,
12:52it is Daniel Jones.
12:53You see his career numbers last week against Baltimore.
12:5610 for 21, 144 yards in extended time.
13:00It's expected.
13:00He gets the first two series.
13:02Richardson gets the rest of the half.
13:05Rolling pocket.
13:06Moe Alleycox with the little nudge block by Michael Pittman, Jr.
13:11To the 48-yard line and gain of 19.
13:14And a Colts first down.
13:15Now our Toyota starting lineups.
13:17And, again, you will see starters other than injuries for the Indianapolis Colts.
13:22So, down a couple of receivers.
13:24Josh Downs and Alec Pierce both got banged up in practice this week.
13:28Other than that, all starters up and down the line.
13:32Yeah, I did notice, though, that Travis is in at left tackle, which is kind of interesting for Ryman.
13:36But I think they want to give him a good look at the swing tackle.
13:41Jones.
13:42And that ball was hit as it was thrown.
13:45Packer defense.
13:46And, again, we saw primarily twos in terms of the Packer offense.
13:51And we expect similar here for the Packers defensively in this game.
13:56Again, these two teams practice against each other on Thursday afternoon on the final day of Colts training camp at Grand Park.
14:03Yeah, as I said, the only surprise in there is Travis in there at left tackle for Ryman.
14:08Otherwise, as you said, it's everybody except injured players.
14:12Travis, a three pick of the Colts.
14:15Oh, no.
14:16Bobbled snap.
14:17Jones recovers.
14:19So, it's simply a loss of three.
14:21Could have been far more calamitous.
14:22Third down and 13.
14:23You know, we struggled on Thursday with some of this stuff.
14:26We, you know, we've had a pretty mistake-free camp.
14:30But, again, just a center and different quarterbacks.
14:34And it looks like Danny just pulled out of there a little fast.
14:37And Tanner Bordellini.
14:39Last year's fourth-round pick out of Wisconsin.
14:41The center, Matt Gonsalves, the right guard.
14:44Third-round pick last year who played both left and right tackle at times out of Pittsburgh.
14:49And both those guys got significant reps on Thursday.
14:52They were kind of the exceptions to the plan last week.
14:56Pat brings four.
14:58Jones fires deep ball.
15:00And Warren just had broken off his routes.
15:04After one first down, the drive stalls for Indianapolis.
15:07Yeah, and actually, we had a shot.
15:09I mean, Warren ran a little wheel route and got up on top of him.
15:13Danny got to pull the string a little bit.
15:15You know, I think he was there.
15:17He was on top of it.
15:18That was a miss right there.
15:20Three catches for 40 yards for Warren.
15:22I thought he was outstanding last Thursday, Rick.
15:25He's been sensational from the day he's gotten here.
15:27He's the guy that gives you total versatility, three downs.
15:32I think he's just a big-time playmaker in the making.
15:36Sanchez with the punt.
15:38And as is often the case, a fair catch around the 10.
15:41Expect that from Sanchez more often than not.
15:44Packers' second drive.
15:45When we come back to Indianapolis.

16:24And Zaire Franklin had a little off-season procedure that was done,
16:28but is already back and getting reps here in week number two.
16:32And he led the league in tackles.
16:34He's been north of 160 tackles, Rick, each of the last three seasons.
16:37Oh, no.
16:37He's the ringleader.
16:38He's the ringleader.
16:39He's the leader of this club.
16:41And he's a tough guy inside.
16:42So, some of the ones already done with their day for the Colts on the handoff.
16:47This is some interesting things here.
16:49You know, Lou already showed you on that first drive, man-to-man coverage, press.
16:54And now he's got five big guys in there, five defensive linemen in a 46 defense.
17:00So, we're seeing more variation in one quarter than we've seen in about six years.
17:04So, I'm excited about that.
17:06Marshawn Lloyd, the ball carrier.
17:08Duke Shelley in run support from his counterback position makes the tackle after a four-yard pickup.
17:13Duke's been around.
17:14I thought he played well last week.
17:16And, again, we're looking for that third corner.
17:18There are four corners that are currently injured for the Indianapolis Colts.
17:21Willis slings an incomplete pass.
17:24Intended target that time was Malik Heath.
17:26And Alexander on the coverage.
17:29Or was that LeMond?
17:31Yeah, this is, again, this is that tight man-to-man coverage.
17:35No zone.
17:36Basically, you see him right in there.
17:38That's LeMond again at the nickel.
17:40Two.
17:40That's another good snap for him.
17:42And, as I said, it's so important to have that backup for Kenny if anything were to happen to him.
17:47Packers 0 for 3 on third down in the opening drive.
17:50But, then again, they were 2 for 2 on fourth down tries in the opening drive as well.
17:54Colts bring four.
17:55Willis, deep ball.
17:57Completed.
17:58Hartman, first down.
17:59LeMond's on the tackle.
18:01There is a flag down, though, behind the play.
18:04Opposite side.
18:05It's going to stand, though.
18:06Pass interference is going to be the call against Indianapolis.
18:09Yeah, we're a little bit grabby right now.
18:10And, so far, we're getting by with it.
18:12We finally got called.
18:14You know, in that situation, Hartman.
18:15He's holding, defense.
18:17That penalty is declined.
18:18He's open the play as a post down.
18:21In that case, Hartman just beat LeMond.
18:24He started him.
18:24He twirled him around.
18:25He started a post route and then ripped it out to the corner.
18:2821-yard pickup.
18:30Hartman primarily has been with the Kansas City Chiefs over the years.
18:33Did spend some time with the New York Jets as well.
18:39On the handoff.
18:42And maybe 3 or 4.
18:44Sets up second down.
18:45Daniel Scott, one of the guys in on the tackling.
18:48And his story is tremendous.
18:49He was injured in June and May the last couple of years.
18:53This is his third year with the team.
18:55Finally getting a chance to play in the preseason and make the club.
18:58Absolutely.
18:59Great to see him back.
19:00Now, one critical thing, fans, you've got to take a look at is one of the areas that I'm concerned with is our backup interior.
19:07You know, now you're looking at new guys in there.
19:09You know, Gallimore, Johnson, Adebari.
19:13You know, that was a big issue.
19:14When our two top guys went out last year, we've got to find some guys there.
19:19Good job.
19:20Gain of one, maybe two.
19:23And Layatu Latu, one of the players in on that play.
19:27Let's go to the sidelines.
19:29Our total sideline report.
19:30Again, Lara Overton.
19:31Hunter Wooler, the rookie who has stood out all training camp and preseason, has been ruled out for this game with a foot injury.
19:38Did try to run on the sidelines.
19:39Got taped up with the help of trainers.
19:41But they have definitively ruled him out for the remainder of this preseason game, too.
19:46Shame to see.
19:47Lara, thank you very much.
19:48He's been fantastic.
19:49Had two interceptions in the joint practice with the Ravens last Tuesday.
19:54He has spelled Nick Cross at times.
19:56Willis, deep ball.
19:58And what a grab.
20:00Did he stay in bounds?
20:01Yes, he did.
20:03Julian Hicks on the grab.
20:05First down, Green Bay.
20:06But it is coming back.
20:08Olden, Arkansas to 67.
20:11That's good news for the Colts.
20:15That throw was fantastic by Willis.
20:17I mean, Womack had great coverage.
20:20That was an absolute missile.
20:23Julian Hicks with the fantastic job of getting a knee down as well.
20:26But it all goes for not.
20:28Guilty party on the hold was Donovan Jennings.
20:34Eric Johnson drew the penalty.
20:37Eric out of Missouri State.
20:39Played for the Colts.
20:39Then was released.
20:41Went to New England.
20:42You can return from the dark side.
20:44You can.
20:44You absolutely can.
20:46And again, we're looking for those two key guy backups inside.
20:52Third and 15.
20:54Lots here with pressure.
20:56Could not get the sack.
20:57Willis fires, but overthrows his target.
21:00But again, that by Willis.
21:02Saved about 10 yards.
21:04Latu the near miss.
21:05It's fourth down.
21:06Yeah, I'm telling you, this is impressive from the Colts' defensive stand back.
21:11You know, this is a four-man rush.
21:13You see Latu on the inside.
21:16Just misses the sack.
21:17And that's probably what he has to get better at.
21:20He's got to finish.
21:21He had tremendous amount of pressures.
21:23But he's got to learn how to absolutely finish that play and get that guy down.
21:27Daniel Whelan is on to boot this ball away for the Packers.
21:30Wold stands back at the 20-yard line.
21:36Second year out of Oregon State.
21:40Trying to make up for lost ground here.
21:46And won't be able to do it.
21:48That's a long ways to run for a loss of four yards.
21:52Colts' second drive comes your way next.
22:00Enter now for your kid's chance to be junior blue at the next Colts' home game.
22:08Visit colts.com slash Meyer junior blue to enter today.
22:15One first down on the Colts' opening drive.
22:18Still that first line is in there.
22:20Still that, yep, that first line, you know, with the exception of Travis, that's it.
22:26You can't give Nelson time off.
22:31He won't take it.
22:32No.
22:33They have these rest days now, but he won't do it.
22:37As evidenced by an off-the-record comment by Shane Steichen.
22:41We can't repeat.
22:43First and ten at the 16-yard line.
22:48Packers.
22:49Good read by Jones.
22:50Throws it right to where the blitz came from.
22:52And gold with the explosive play.
22:53And again, we kind of think the Colts' depth chart set to about six receivers.
22:58Now there is a flag down.
23:01Down the field.
23:02There may have been an illegal block against the Colts.
23:04Offense number ten.
23:06Two yards, two yards, two yards, five, five.
23:09So wipe away the gain of what would have been 24 yards for Indianapolis.
23:13Yeah, that's a shame.
23:14That's a good RPO right there.
23:16Run pass option.
23:17Danny got it out quick.
23:18He got it out accurate where the guy could catch and run.
23:21Yep, there it is.
23:23He catches it.
23:24He's got time to run.
23:25The ball came out quick.
23:27And we know Gould can make people miss.
23:29He's done a really good job on the return game, particularly on the punt return game.
23:35He's been a little shaky in terms of drops.
23:38And, you know, it's good to see him catch one and go.
23:41Gould, in theory, kind of spells Josh Downs as he is today.
23:45Downs, a bit of a hamstring issue that happened on Thursday in practice against the Packers.
23:49The unique first and eight coming up here.
23:52Quick hitter finds Michael Pittman, Jr.
23:56Yeah, I'd really like the decisiveness on Jones.
23:59I've seen that day in and day out, that consistency.
24:03And I like the use of Michael Pittman now inside.
24:07Michael Pittman is a tight end in a wide receiver's body.
24:11He goes down and runs a little stick route right there underneath Warren.
24:14And that ball comes out now.
24:17How many receivers do you describe as physically tough?
24:20He's one of those guys.
24:21Yeah, no, he is tough.
24:22He's a dirty work guy.
24:23No question about it.
24:25It's the ball to 27-yard line.
24:29Jones.
24:30Fires it into traffic.
24:32Warren was the intended target.
24:35Yeah, he tried to stick it in there.
24:36Really good coverage by the Packer.
24:38There was no window there.
24:40It's a second down and ten.
24:43Warren, two targets so far, but no catches.
24:46And he was clearly a featured part of the attack early last Thursday in Baltimore.
24:50Yeah.
24:50Yeah, see, that's a good throw.
24:52It's just great coverage right there on the strip.
24:54Ketan Oladapo, the defensive back in coverage.
24:59Jones finds Pittman first down and, again, with the quarterback position still in doubt,
25:16do you want to see the quarterback develop a rapport with a primary target?
25:19We're seeing that from Daniel Jones.
25:21Oh, my God.
25:21You can't.
25:21I mean, he's having a great drive with the one guy called back.
25:25That was a great comeback throw to Pittman.
25:27Good route by Pittman.
25:29Wide open over there, but he got it out, and he got it right there on time accurately.
25:33Pittman now in his sixth season with the Indianapolis Colts.
25:36He's done over 400 career receptions.
25:39That's foreshadowing, kids.
25:40More about that later in the broadcast.
25:42Malali Cox with his second grab of the game.
25:45And now with Warren here, let's see how Moe's kind of role looks a bit different for this team.
25:50Well, I think it's going to be a really good role.
25:53I think when you have him and Warren in there, you have two edge blockers if you want to run it.
25:58But you can use Warren and leave Moe Alley in the box and use Warren almost like a hybrid third wide.
26:05So you can really create problems for the defense.
26:08What's unique, Rick, is that the wide receivers and tight ends here seemingly have very specific roles that they fit into.
26:14I would say this.
26:17Hand off to Jonathan Taylor.
26:20First down.
26:21In watching this team now, I've been back for 13 years.
26:26You know, when there was a period of time, this is excellent.
26:29This is a zone play.
26:30You're throwing the ball.
26:32All of a sudden, they start to play pass.
26:34Now we give it to them right behind those road graders on the left side.
26:37But when you want to make a run with the Colts, and even Travis is a big road grader,
26:42you put that ball in Taylor's hand to the left, and you're going to make yardage.
26:45JT got his one carry, and that might be all that is needed to see from Sean today.
26:50I am fine.
26:51As old school I am, I'm fine with that with a running back.
26:53DJ Giddens, the third-day draft pick out of Kansas State.
26:57Featured last week in Baltimore.
26:58Now in the backfield.
27:00Pressure coming.
27:01Jones reads it.
27:02There's Warren.
27:03Over the hand.
27:04Over the catch to spot.
27:05Contact.
27:06First down, Indianapolis.
27:08At about the 11-yard line.
27:10Great drive right now.
27:12Basically, there's slot tied in.
27:15Here comes basically Warren on what we call the wheel route, out and up.
27:19And Danny throws it right to the chest.
27:21And if you're close to that guy, he's going to catch it.
27:24Jones great on this drive.
27:25You know what I started to say is, a few years back, this was a team with very few weapons.
27:30We now have weapons everywhere.
27:33There's no question about that.
27:34That pitch and catch good for 25 yards.
27:37Not first and goal, but first and ten.
27:40Second drive of the game for the Colts.
27:42It's Giddens.
27:44And still going.
27:46At about the five-yard line.
27:48Called it again a five or six for the former Kansas State Wildcats.
27:51He is very deceptive in that red zone now.
27:56Colts are in, in fact, the Coca-Cola red zone as we speak.
28:00Jones three for five for 53 yards on this drive.
28:03You know, Rick Venturi's mantra was God, country, and red zone.
28:07And so.
28:08Those are good words to live by.
28:10And on game day, might have to be red zone.
28:14Second and short.
28:15This is where the game is won or lost right here, both ways.
28:19Colts not getting a touchdown until the third quarter against the Ravens last week.
28:25Play clock is at three.
28:26And it's Giddens.
28:28Stretch play.
28:29Got it.
28:30It's inside.
28:31Oh, no.
28:33The O-O is for the flag behind the flag.
28:36Flag.
28:36It's going to be a hold.
28:37Doggone it.
28:40Penalty is a problem last week.
28:44Yes.
28:44Is this a bit of sloppiness from the Colts?
28:46Or is this preseason games can kind of be a little over-officiated, for lack of a better term?
28:52Yeah.
28:52This is a good run here by Giddens.
28:54Well blocked.
28:56He basically takes it and pushes it to the outside and then puts that foot in the ground
29:00and goes.
29:01Yeah.
29:03I mean, you got to go with it.
29:05It's at the point of attack on Travis.
29:07He's got his hands on the outside of the blocker, of the defender.
29:11And they're going to call that at the point of attack.
29:13And Travis in for Bernard Ryman today.
29:17Second down.
29:19Oh, good shot.
29:20Adonai Mitchell with the grab.
29:23Look at Ford.
29:23Progress to the seven.
29:25So call it a gain of nine.
29:26It's third down.
29:27I'll tell you what.
29:27You want pinpoint accuracy on this drive.
29:30You got it from number 17.
29:32And you know what?
29:33Every time that Mitchell, every time that A.D. Mitchell catches a ball inside, the old
29:39man up here does jumping jacks, okay?
29:42So third and short inside of the 10-yard line.
29:44And we come back.
29:45A rapidly moving first quarter is now in the books.
29:49Outstanding second drive for the Colts.
29:51Can they pay it off in the painted turf when we come back to Indianapolis Colts preseason
29:56football?
29:56Today's game is brought to you by Ascension St. Vincent.
30:08Listening to you, caring for you.
30:10Hazen Sons.
30:11We do restoration right.
30:13And by Kittles.
30:15Indiana's home team since 1932.
30:17All right, Rick, we'll have you put on your offense coordinator hat here.
30:24What's your play call on third and sixth of the seven-yard left?
30:27Yeah, basically what you want is those inside options right here on third and sixth.
30:31You got guys like Warren.
30:33You got a guy like Mitchell.
30:35Well, actually, Pittman slipped him inside.
30:37Work those inside options here.
30:40You got Pittman and Warren lined up here together.
30:42So probably something good is going to happen right there.
30:45Mitchell and Gould to the top side with Giddens as the setback.
30:52Jones trying to buy additional time.
30:58Running out of real estate and just realizes nothing there on that play.
31:02Field goal unit coming on for Indianapolis.
31:04Yeah, Green Bay packed it in.
31:06They just really defended it.
31:07No place to go.
31:08Good movement by Danny.
31:09Good decision at that point.
31:11That was a very good drive by the quarterback.
31:13Very good.
31:14Both these teams lost their preseason opener.
31:17Packers against the Jets 30-10 last week.
31:20Colts in 24-16 fashion nine days ago against the Ravens.
31:24This, you'd say it's an extra point.
31:26It's shorter than an extra point these days.
31:28Just 25 yards for Spencer Schrader.
31:31In four games, spent time with three different teams last year in the regular season.
31:37Was in camp with the Colts last year.
31:39Central Florida, Notre Dame, his collegiate stops.
31:43And this one is good.
31:44Colts have the lead and will step aside.
31:473-0 early second quarter as you're watching Colts football.
31:50Serator Sports, parent company of Shutt and Vices, football protective equipment and manufactured
32:02in Plainfield, Indiana, proudly partners with the Indianapolis Colts, ensuring the highest
32:07degree of protection for athletes of all ages, including those competing at Lucas Oil Stadium
32:12on Sundays.
32:13The Colts' second drive results in points.
32:20Carly Ursae-Gordon, owner and CEO now of the Indianapolis Colts.
32:25She will be joining us here in the booth in quarter number three.
32:30I am so thrilled that she has carried on her father's legacy in so many ways.
32:34But as it pertains to this broadcast, by joining us during part of one home preseason game.
32:38It is just thrilling.
32:40You know, after all those years with Jim, and Jim always came up and was so good and gave
32:45us tremendous interviews.
32:46And to see Carly keep that tradition going is really great.
32:50Return back to the 28-yard line.
32:53A flag on the play.
32:56So this Packers drive will actually now be backed up inside of the 20-yard line.
32:59Holden, receiving team number 36, 10-yard penalty from the end of the run, first down.
33:10So flag against the Packers will back this drive up by 10 yards.
33:14Time now for our Citizens Energy Group scoring recap.
33:2011 plays, 77 yards, and over five minutes off the clock.
33:26So far, Daniel Jones, over 100 yards passing already, seven for 11, and 101 for Jones, and
33:32that might be it for him today.
33:34Yeah, I would think it would be.
33:36I think they jumped here.
33:38I think we're going to get five more.
33:41Alex Moore has been very busy.
33:43He is our referee for today's contest.
33:46First and 15.
33:48And we knew going in, no Jordan Love because of a thumb injury.
33:51Again, it's his non-throwing hand, his left hand.
33:54And they feel he'll be running by September the 7th.
34:00Smith is in there for us to tackle now, the rookie out of Alabama inside there.
34:06Wilson, the lone setback.
34:07And he'll get the handoff here.
34:10Shagu Alubi, first man to him.
34:15Austin Ajike, also on the tackle.
34:18And let's go back to the field for a Toyota sideline report.
34:21Here's Lara Overton.
34:22Braden Smith has been ruled out with a groin injury.
34:25He has that left upper leg area heavily wrapped over on the Colts' sideline.
34:29So you will see some change there along the offensive line.
34:32Jalen Travis already started this game in place of Bernard Ryman,
34:36so we will see what they do when the offense is out there at the opposite tackle position.
34:39Lara, thank you very much.
34:41Hardman, the catch.
34:44Gets back some of that penalty yardage.
34:45It'll set up third down and call it five or six.
34:48And again, Ajike and Alubi, the guys that make the play for Indianapolis.
34:52Yeah, Alubi, we saw a lot of him last year.
34:55He would go in the game.
34:56It just seemed like he's a guy that can get his hands on balls.
35:00You know, he's a guy that tends to knock passes down and get it out.
35:03Been a little quiet because of injuries.
35:06Good to see him back out there.
35:08Colts, because of how they're going to play defense,
35:09will probably carry fewer linebackers this year.
35:12But you like Shegu's chances and maybe even Austin's, too,
35:15to make this roster here in a couple of weeks.
35:17Austin's had a really, really good camp.
35:20Third down.
35:22Colts bring four.
35:23Willis has a man.
35:25Catch is made.
35:26First down and more.
35:27Out of the backfield.
35:28Marshawn Lloyd, the grab.
35:31Progress inside of the 45-yard line of the 44.
35:35A gain of 33.
35:36Yeah, they isolated 58 right there.
35:39They isolated to Jakey, you know, with Lloyd on a wheel route.
35:44And when you have plenty of time to throw that,
35:46that ends up being a tough coverage for a linebacker.
35:50And with as much man as he's going to play,
35:53our linebackers are going to have to,
35:55the priority is going to have to be coverage.
35:57It was Rodney Thomas who finished off the hit.
36:04And we're seventh-round pick out of Yale as Thomas,
36:06veteran of this team.
36:09Willis setting up for the potential deep ball.
36:11And it's tipped.
36:12Oh.
36:13And nearly intercepted.
36:14Great read that time.
36:17And that was LeMans who has worked the part so far today.
36:20Yeah, he's had a good day, but he's got to make that play.
36:23That is a turnover in waiting.
36:24I mean, he throws it right at him.
36:27They showed man-to-man, and then they rolled out.
36:30They screwed out to a zone.
36:32And LeMans dropped deep into the flat
36:34and looked at that seven route coming at him.
36:36Ball was right there.
36:37He's got to make that play.
36:39Got to get that turnover.
36:42It's a second down and ten.
36:49Handoff goes to Wilson.
36:51Bounces off the pile.
36:53IGK helps to steer him out of bounds
36:55after he picks up four or five.
36:57And, again, looks like a late flag was thrown on the far sideline.
37:05As of now, it's five.
37:06Let's see which direction this will go.
37:08After the play, personal foul, late hit.
37:16Offense number 71.
37:1815-yard penalty from the end of the run.
37:20The down count, third down.
37:22Head coaches always spot the guy that makes the mistake.
37:25My spartner today is Mark Henninger,
37:27the longtime football coach at Marion.
37:29Before anybody else in the building knew,
37:30he pointed 71, made the mistake for the opposite day.
37:33He did.
37:34Good call.
37:35And 71 was ridiculous there.
37:37You know, he hits him right from the back,
37:40right on the sidelines.
37:41Mark hasn't coached at Marion for a few years.
37:43Somebody might be running sprints because of that hit
37:45when he goes back to campus on Monday.
37:49Third and 20.
37:53Out of the flat.
37:55Again, minimal gain.
37:57Still fourth and long.
37:58Ben Sims, one of the returning tight ends
38:01for the Packers, makes the play.
38:03Yeah, and that's LeMond again,
38:05basically with help from Shelly.
38:08What you like there is that was a cover, too.
38:11That was a soft zone because it was so long a yardage.
38:14But when that ball was thrown out there,
38:15we came like sharks.
38:17I mean, that ball in a flat ended up being a three-yard gain.
38:21I mean, that's...
38:22When you play zone, that's what you got to do.
38:24When that ball's there, man, you got to be flying.
38:26And wheel it on for his second kick of the game.
38:29Gould, a bobble, and went backwards on his previous punt return.
38:33That did not deter the Colts' last scoring drive.
38:40Gould makes the fair catch just past the 10-yard line.
38:46Anthony Richardson time.
38:47About to commence here in preseason number two.
38:50Colts football is brought to you by Seaside Events,
39:01the official fan crews of the Indianapolis Colts.
39:03Sail with Colts fans and legends April 2026.
39:08As expected, Daniel Jones gets two drives.
39:11Anthony Richardson now gets the rest of this half,
39:14and we'll see if that might extend.
39:16And we didn't see much of Richardson because of that pinky injury last Thursday.
39:20What have you seen from him in training camp?
39:22Yeah, I see an improved passer, particularly in the middle of the field.
39:26The biggest thing with Anthony is stay away from the bad play,
39:30which you see every once in a while.
39:32And he did not miss a single rep in practice this week.
39:35I'd say that's a good play.
39:37Gould on the out.
39:38He'll step out of bounds after a gain of nine yards.
39:41What I'm always looking for, Anthony, is decisiveness.
39:46Decisiveness like this right here.
39:47Get it out quick and pinpoint accuracy right on the face mask of the receiver.
39:54Bo Melton in coverage and on the tackle.
39:57He's a unique story for Green Bay.
39:59They have switched positions.
40:00He was a wide receiver for the Packers a season ago,
40:03and now trying to make the team as a corner.
40:04Second and one with Giddens in the backfield for the Colts.
40:10These are a lot of backups, but guys that we expect to make the roster
40:14during this game with Anthony Richardson.
40:17Ball knocked down, and Doolin was the target.
40:22Yeah, that was an RPO.
40:24They loaded the box, so he went to Doolin,
40:27but he was basically smothered there by the corner.
40:29You could argue that Ashton Doolin had one of the more impressed performances
40:32for the Colts last Thursday.
40:34Yeah, here's a look at the play right here.
40:36Here comes Doolin in on the end.
40:38Like I said, RPO, good strip, really good strip by the backers.
40:43Oladapo was the blitzing defensive back on the play.
40:48Third to y'all.
40:51Simple handoff to Giddens, and he'll get there.
40:54Nothing flashy, but he'll move the chains.
40:55First down, Colts passed the 20-yard line.
40:58Yeah, Giddens is a glider.
40:59You just see a little bit of spin here at the end.
41:04Little zone play to the left.
41:06Really pretty good D, but he gets a nice little spin to get it across.
41:10Somebody's down out there now.
41:12That's unfortunately it's Freeland that just came into the game,
41:15replacing Braden Smith, and now the third-year man out of BYU
41:19is down at the end of the play.
41:23Yeah, hopefully that's not serious.
41:25He's in a battle for that swing tackle with Tucker,
41:30and he struggled a little bit.
41:32Hopefully this is nothing serious.
41:33They're working on that ankle right now.
41:35Freeland, frankly, played a little bit more as a rookie at 23.
41:39Yeah, yeah.
41:40He played last year in 24.
41:42Again, sometimes you get caught in the wash.
41:44You see the result of that injury right there.
41:48We will step aside.
41:49First down for the Colts when we come back to Lucas Oil Stadium.
41:53The 2025 Coach of the Week program presented by Corteva Agri-Science
42:07and sponsored and brought by Sarator Sports.
42:09To learn more, visit colts.com slash highschoolfootball.
42:13Well, unfortunately, the cart was required for Blake Freeland.
42:17You see numerous Colts, virtually every player on the roster,
42:21made their way to the third-year pro.
42:25Unfortunately, Irwin is going to have an injury suffered at practice
42:27a couple of weeks ago by backup running back Sivan Ahmed.
42:32We hope for a speedy recovery.
42:35Yep, they got the air cast on it right now.
42:38It doesn't look good.
42:40You just see the bonding of players together.
42:43You know, especially somebody that's been here
42:46in, I think, his third year.
42:49You know, he's got tight relationships with everybody.
42:52I proclaimed a first down.
42:54Virtual measurement backs me up.
42:56How does this work?
42:57There are six cameras placed on the sideline
42:59that cover all 120 yards of the field,
43:03and the Colts got it by that much.
43:07Looks like Luke Tenute in there at right tackle to replace Freeland.
43:11That's the Colts a little bit deeper in their offensive line
43:13than they had planned early in the game.
43:16Richardson finds Gould.
43:20His second catch of the drive, and similar results on both.
43:23It'll be second down and short after a gain of eight or nine yards.
43:27Yeah, and you like to see this.
43:28You like to see them move Anthony.
43:30They start the zone play.
43:32Anthony comes out on what we call a boot nine.
43:34Right there's Gould.
43:36Don't waste any time.
43:37Get it out there.
43:37Take that completion on first down.
43:39We'll take that eight easy yards.
43:41But moving Anthony, I think, is critical.
43:46Mallory and Ogletree.
43:48It has the tight ends on this play for the Colts.
43:51Mallory's been outstanding as a receiver at Grant Park.
43:57On the handoff.
43:59And again, right around the first down marker.
44:02It was Giddens and Goodson that split the time in the first half last week.
44:08It is Giddens getting the unquestioned number two reps here today.
44:12Yeah, zone play right behind Tanuta right off the bat,
44:17seeing if they can punch it out, which they did.
44:22Giddens totals from the preseason.
44:24Does not turn 22, does DJ, until after the next preseason game.
44:30You know, he went from a walk-on in college to one of the top running backs in the game.
44:36At over 3,000 yards in his days as a K-State Wildcat.
44:43Richardson hit as he throws.
44:45Flag is thrown.
44:46And let's see if Mitchell drew enough contact to get the Colts a first down.
44:50It will be.
44:51Yes.
44:53Yes.
44:53Right to the pass.
44:54Holding.
44:55Defense number 26.
44:57Five-yard penalty with an automatic first down.
44:59Again, we have seen the highs from Mitchell.
45:01We have seen the lows from Mitchell in training camp.
45:04How close is he to a breakthrough season?
45:06Well, you know, again, we're not going to know after Labor Day
45:09because you've got to do it in real time.
45:11But he has been terrific.
45:13I mean, he has been, without question, the best separator on the field.
45:18He's always open.
45:20He's got that great explosiveness, and he can snap off the break.
45:23Right there, you saw that corner was helpless.
45:25He was grabbing all the way.
45:27Five penalties for 45 yards in total so far against the Packers.
45:31The first and ten from the 36-yard line.
45:37Richardson.
45:37Ogletree able to hang on to it and still going.
45:44Spent time at both Finley and Youngstown State, the Dayton, Ohio native,
45:48as he gets the ball to the 43-yard line at gain of 22.
45:51Yeah, another real decisive play right here.
45:54And this is the other thing I like to do with Richardson,
45:57is you throw layer patterns to the outside where it's one, two, three.
46:00Really nice throw there to Ogletree.
46:03Ogletree and Mo'Ally Cox, kind of more of the blocking tight ends.
46:07Here's Doolin on the grab.
46:09Doesn't mean the play to the college that no longer sponsors football.
46:12Malone University in Canton, Ohio, to advance the 25-yard line.
46:17One thing about Ashlyn Doolin, just about anything you ask him to do,
46:20he goes out there and performs at a maximum level.
46:23Only had two catches last year because he reverted to more of a special teams role.
46:29As capable of a backup, I think, as the Indianapolis Colts have.
46:32Yeah, and versatile, terrific gunner.
46:36Now our quarterbacks are on it today.
46:38Our quarterbacks, both of them, really accurate here in the first half.
46:43Toss play to Giddens.
46:46Giddens, not much there.
46:48A loss of one of the play.
46:49By the way, Anthony Richardson off to a 4-5 start for 57 yards.
46:55Yeah, here comes Goodson in here to spell him now.
46:57Again, the corner came up really, really quick and boxed that play right now on the edge.
47:03Tyron Hopper on the tackle for the Packers after a loss of one.
47:07Goodson, who really has had a really good camp, you know,
47:11and I thought played really well this week, particularly the other night.
47:15Everybody was struggling, but I thought he brought it.
47:17He's got a little extra motivation against his former team in Green Bay.
47:20Yes, he does.
47:22Former Iowa Hawkeye.
47:25Ogletree's second grab of the drive with a 19-yard line.
47:28He'll pick up seven.
47:29Yeah, I think the quick game is his best friend as well.
47:32Again, you saw decisiveness.
47:34Ball comes out just a little quick, but it's an easy five-yard game.
47:39And, again, move him, layers to the outside, quicks inside like that, and he's on it.
47:52So ball at the 19-yard line, third down.
47:54Richardson on the keep.
48:04Throws it to Doolin.
48:07Flag comes out.
48:08He may have waited too long to throw that ball.
48:15Illegal guy downfield.
48:16Correct.
48:16The lay on that pass.
48:18That happens, though.
48:19You can't help that.
48:20But those RPOs, that's the new penalty.
48:22And that was the player downfield offense number 60.
48:25Five-yard penalty, third down.
48:28That was Bordellini.
48:29That was the player that was nabbed for being illegally downfield.
48:32But, again, that's all timing.
48:34I'm not sure how you changed that.
48:35Yeah, I don't think you do.
48:36If anything, I liked Anthony there because they feathered him.
48:40And rather than just hammered in there, he just flicked it out.
48:43Touch passes.
48:43We're seeing more and more of those.
48:45Again, his decisiveness tonight is outstanding.
48:48It's a third down, four penalties against the Colts for a total of 40 yards.
48:54Blitz coming.
48:55Blitz.
48:56Richardson steps up.
48:58Richardson breaks free.
48:59Flag comes down.
49:01He is tripped up past the first down marker.
49:03But, again, penalty on the play.
49:06Yeah, the corner's out here holding Mitchell every down.
49:08I'm telling you, he's afraid of Mitchell.
49:10Isaiah Simmons, former first-round pick, makes the tackle.
49:14Defense number 37.
49:15Richardson, five-yard penalties added to the end of the run with an automatic first down.
49:19Normally on a run play, you're not cheering a hold.
49:22The home fans are.
49:23That goes against a defensive back in Baldwin for the Packers.
49:26This is what a guy like Mitchell can give you with all that tremendous speed.
49:34You know, tremendous speed.
49:36Here it is outside there.
49:38He's just grabbing.
49:41And Richardson has been tremendous about avoiding sacks during his brief tenure with the Indianapolis Colts.
49:51Handoff goes to Goodson.
49:52Goodson stumbles but dives forward.
49:56This is what I'm seeing out of Goodson.
49:58You know, I think everybody expected Giddens just to be the guy.
50:02But Goodson's not letting that happen.
50:04I'm telling you.
50:04And he's really doing a good job.
50:07Watch him push that leg in the ground.
50:09He's tripping.
50:09But watch him collect himself and just keep going north and south.
50:14Again.
50:15At the goal line.
50:16Touchdown.
50:17Goodson with the touchdown against his former club.
50:21Looking to make it a third season with the Indianapolis Colts.
50:259-0 for the home team.
50:27Yeah, and basically a lot of this is coming about because.
