00:00Pretty well set. You know Warren and I would say Mo Alley, and then I'd say it's a battle between two through five for those two spots.
00:09Well, you run the ball here to get yourself back in field goal range, and this is a great test for Schrader.
00:14Now, again, perfect conditions inside today. This will be a 56-yard try.
00:20Rick on Thursday, he made one from 63 against the Packers in the joint practice.
00:24Yeah, you know, and that's so encouraging. The 52-yarder that he hit last week, you know, that shot that you're talking about in practice,
00:33you know, because the only decision with him is can he make them from outside of 50.
00:41Operation looks good.
00:42Oh, he's got a lot of ball there.
00:44And this one, no problem.
00:45No problem.
00:4656 with some lead to spare.
00:49Colts lead, bumps back up to six, and that can make it back-to-back games, Rick, where he's made three field goals.
00:56He got all of it.
00:58Back to Lucas Oil after this.
01:00Colts lead by six.
01:09Colts football is brought to you by Verizon, the official 5G network of the Colts.
01:14Chris Schrader has drilled one from 56.
01:21It's part of his youth growing up in Westfield.
01:24Yep.
01:27And again, ended up being kind of the emergency kicker for numerous teams last year.
01:32Played in four games with three different teams a season ago.
01:36You know, and he kicked for Mason in college, so, you know, he's seen more of him than anyone here.
01:41And I've got to have faith in his judgment here.
01:45Our Citizens Energy Group scoring recap shows you the drive for the Colts.
01:50On a bounce of Anaconda at the five-yard line.
01:55Spins away at the 30-yard line.
01:57And, frankly, Rick, you and I spent most of that break talking about the rule change.
02:02Yeah.
02:02Really penalizes a touchback.
02:04We saw one last week in Baltimore.
02:06The Colts have started driving the 35-yard line.
02:08Yeah, it's really interesting because all last preseason we saw returns,
02:12and then I didn't think the 30 was a big enough penalty.
02:16Now we've changed it, so it looks like we're going to see a lot of returns.
02:20You know, what's encouraging tonight is better kick coverage by the Colts.
02:23You know, we really broke down in Baltimore.
02:27And so somebody, you know, somebody got the fire into those guys.
02:30They're getting down there and tackling pretty good.
02:31Look at some of the new rules we'll be talking about throughout the 2025 season.
02:39Handoff goes to Amar Johnson up the middle.
02:43Once again, those new rules, most of them have a special teams tilt to them.
02:47But, again, once we get to overtime, which we do not see in preseason football, by the way,
02:52each team will be guaranteed an offensive possession starting in 2025.
02:59And you have seen those first downs that are the virtual measurement.
03:03Again, that's camera-based technology.
03:05You've seen that used once in today's game.
03:09You can have an onside kick any time.
03:11You just have to, again, alert the officials, hey, we're going onside here.
03:17Second down.
03:17You know, this is a small thing, and this is kind of the game.
03:23There's always, like, two games within the game in a preseason game.
03:27And now what you're seeing is some great effort because you're seeing guys fight for their livelihood.
03:31I mean, you're out there trying to win a job either on this team, in the league, on a practice squad.
03:38You know, and the intensity gets better and better.
03:41And I'm really impressed that, basically, Lou is using that five-down lineman, that bare defense, to try to stop the run.
03:51One quarter left to go.
03:52Colts have led this one virtually the entire way.
03:55It's 16-10 as you're watching Colts football.
03:58We have gotten to the fourth quarter of the Colts' lone preseason game here in Indianapolis.
04:02They lead this one 16-10 again alongside Rick Venturi and Lara Overton.
04:07Greg Rakestraw with you.
04:08Colts trying to level their preseason record at 1-1.
04:14Well, Gershman has been getting the ball for the Packers since the second quarter.
04:18Has a man.
04:18Flag is thrown.
04:20Again, we have said that way too much going in both directions in today's game.
04:24This flag is going against the Colts.
04:26This one will stand as Johnson gets the catch.
04:29Outside, defense number 96 lined up in the neutral zone.
04:32That penalty is declined.
04:33The result of the play is a first down.
04:35The player that that flag was against was literally signed this week.
04:39That is Marcus Haynes, who has already played a full season in 2025, playing for the San Antonio Brahmers in the UFL.
04:48He's maybe not even sure what team he's with yet.
04:52Colts did make five player moves this week.
04:55Obviously, injuries play a factor in that.
05:00Oh, Gershman.
05:03It's buying time.
05:05Isaiah Land got to him first.
05:07He will get positive yardage.
05:10He'll be knocked down right around the 50-yard line.
05:12Second down.
05:13Isaiah Land is a guy that just, you know, continues to make a few plays and hang in there on this ball club.
05:23For Isaiah, he is in his third year with the team.
05:27Was waved by the Cowboys at the end of 2023 camp and has been with the Colts ever since.
05:32Played collegially at Florida A&M.
05:35As he hustles off the feet.
05:36Second down.
05:44On the handoff, it is Amar Johnson.
05:47Nothing doing.
05:48Real stout inside there.
05:51Much like our graphics guy, a proud Jackrabbit from South Dakota State.
05:56That reference just for you, Jeff Nelson.
05:58Thanks for what you do in our broadcast each and every preseason.
06:01Of course, the FCS powerhouse out of Brookings, South Dakota.
06:05And a lot of Colts great Adam Vinatieri.
06:08Third down and three.
06:11Tupou on that tackle, number 69.
06:15These are guys that are fighting to, if not make the active roster, make the practice squad
06:19or showcase their skills for somebody else.
06:22And this one just behind the intended target.
06:26Isaiah Nair was the potential target that time for the pack.
06:31Alex Johnson, Alex had a really good interception in that opener at Baltimore.
06:38And if the Packers went for it twice on fourth down in this part of the field in the opening quarter,
06:42they will do the same in quarter number four.
06:49Johnson, the corner out of UCLA, who had five interceptions in his last year as a Bruin.
06:54Again, because of the, you know, because of the plethora of injuries that we have at corner,
07:03you know, you've got to study these guys really close.
07:07Timeout taken by the Packers this fourth down attempt when we come back to Lucas Oil Stadium.
07:12Start your next winning streak at Horseshoe, Indianapolis, and Harris Hoosier Park,
07:25official casino partners of the Indianapolis Colts.
07:30It's a fourth down and somewhere between three and four.
07:35Coming up here for the Packers.
07:37Look for real tight man-to-man coverage here in this situation.
07:40Bring one of those safeties down to protect you inside.
07:45See if we can turn a little bit of a pass rush loose.
07:49Line to gain is the 44.
07:50And Chami, the bull rush.
08:02Catch made.
08:03First down and more.
08:05Taken down inside of the 30-yard line.
08:08Cornelius Johnson on the grab.
08:11Give him a gain of the play of 18.
08:13Yeah, this is a big throw and catch right here on a fourth down situation.
08:17Colts actually went to zone, which was, you know, surprising.
08:22Gave him just a little bit of a crack right there.
08:24Nice throw.
08:27Cornelius in his second year in the league has one year experience out of Michigan.
08:33Well, Gersba.
08:43Another flag comes down.
08:45Result of the play is a first down.
08:49Johnny Lumpkin on the catch for a gain of 11.
08:52But again, a flag has been thrown.
08:58Nice little boot pattern there.
09:00They had them all open.
09:01And the personal foul, face mask, defense number 93.
09:05These penalties enforce half the distance from the end of the run with an automatic first down.
09:10So first and goal coming up here for Green Bay.
09:16Yeah, he's got it.
09:18He's got that right hand on it.
09:20That is the 21st penalty assessed in today's game.
09:25He's not only, he's not only on it, he's grabbing it.
09:30They're getting your quota today, Greg, now.
09:33They're getting your quota.
09:33On the handoff, Johnson.
09:42Backing his way towards the goal line.
09:44Still going.
09:46And a touchdown for the Packers.
09:48There's a lot of strong will.
09:57They drive us off the ball right at the point.
10:01And he just keeps driving.
10:03He gets some assistance from behind.
10:05Extra point away from Green Bay, taking their first lead of the game.
10:09Outstanding crowd on hand for this game.
10:13Some of the Colts fans have headed home.
10:16You know, I'm really impressed with this crowd today.
10:19Of course, I like, I'm selfish.
10:21I like that 1 o'clock Saturday preseason game.
10:24But this is a very, very good crowd.
10:27McNamee's extra point try is no good.
10:32We remain tied at 16.
10:34A reminder, no overtime in preseason football.
10:37Back to Lucas Oil on the boat.
10:51Colts football is brought to you by Meyer,
10:53official super center of the Indianapolis Colts.
10:55And proud sponsors, lenders of local sports teams.
10:57Across the Midwest.
11:01We are tied at 16 after the missed extra point.
11:04Time for our Citizens Energy Group scoring recap.
11:07Eight plays, 70 yards.
11:09And Johnson with the touchdown plunge for the visitors.
11:14The tied at 16.
11:16We had at least one other game that was tied in preseason football this year.
11:19So it has happened.
11:22McNamee for the kick.
11:25Owen at the 8-yard line.
11:28Bentley has his lead blocker.
11:29And Owen dropped just shy of 30.
11:35Leonard has gotten all of the second half of last week and this week so far.
11:40But it's time for not just one player interview, but two.
11:43As Lara Overton is standing by.
11:45I am joined by two of the veterans, two of the leaders of this defense.
11:49DeForest Buckner, Grover Stewart.
11:51Could not get a stepladder down here.
11:53So they're just going to come down to my level for this interview.
11:55You guys got in there for the first series to start the game.
11:59At this point in your careers, yes, I know it's a new defense with Coach Anarumo.
12:02But what's the greatest benefit?
12:03What do you look to get out of the preseason opportunities?
12:06No, yeah, just making sure, you know, the communication with all the guys that are in there,
12:09the starting crew is, you know, everything's there.
12:11With all the little adjustments that we make throughout the defense.
12:14Obviously, like you said, it's a new defense.
12:16So making sure we're communicating on the right level.
12:18And I feel like we did pretty good on the first drive.
12:20Grove, how about you?
12:20What's the biggest benefit for you?
12:21I think the biggest benefit to see, like, the younger guys go out there, do what they
12:27can do, and put on a show for everybody and show, like, the coaches in the team that they
12:31can play and go out there and have fun.
12:33This Lou Anarumo defense, kind of the characteristics we've seen throughout training camp, disruptive.
12:38What type of position does it put you guys in to be successful up front with this scheme?
12:42Oh, yeah, it puts us in a lot of good situations.
12:45Lou does a great job of making sure that everybody's in the right position to make plays.
12:49Not just up front, you know what I mean, on the second level as well.
12:52And I feel like the guys are benefiting from it for sure.
12:55How about you, Grove?
12:56Yeah, I'd say being very disruptive is, like, big for this defense because the linebackers
13:01coming down.
13:02We've got the defensive line coming and holding blocks for everybody.
13:05And everybody flying around, making plays, getting pits, and more production.
13:09I've talked to a number of guys, in particular this week, that have talked about you guys feel
13:13a sense of urgency as a group to get back to the playoffs.
13:16How do you describe that sense of urgency there is, not only for the defense, but across
13:20this team?
13:21No, yeah, I mean, when I first got here, we were a young team.
13:24But the core guys, I mean, obviously, they're all vets now.
13:26And, I mean, we've been through a lot of ups and downs, just one game, one play away from
13:30the playoffs.
13:30And, you know, there's a big sense of urgency of getting back there.
13:33And especially with this year, dedicating this season to Mr. Irsay.
13:37And, you know, a lot of guys, we have a big purpose on why we're doing this.
13:40And I feel like you can feel the energy in the locker room, for sure.
13:44With the additions that have been made on the back end, guys like Mooney Ward and Cam
13:47Bynum, in compliment to Kenny Moore, the second, and some of the guys who you know you have
13:51returning, how much do you have that trust in the back end with what you guys are doing
13:56up front?
13:57Oh, yeah.
13:57We trust those guys a lot because we know they're going to come in, do what they have
14:00to do, make plays, and give us time to rest to get to the quarterback and make plays
14:05in the front end and the back end.
14:06One of the things that we have learned about Coach Anarumo is that he treats everyone the
14:10same.
14:10Doesn't matter if you're an All-Pro 10-year veteran or you're a new guy, undrafted rookie.
14:15How has that set the tone across this defense?
14:18Oh, it's been great.
14:19You know what I mean?
14:19He has a standard and he coaches everybody the same and everybody has to uphold that
14:22standard.
14:23You know, he'll let you know when you're messing up and he'll also let you know when you're
14:26making a good play.
14:27So, I mean, that's what we need, you know?
14:28Somebody that won't sugarcoat anything, hold everybody to the same standard, and that's how we
14:32get better.
14:33He's pretty intense.
14:34He's pretty serious.
14:35Can you get him to loosen up a little bit, Grover?
14:37Oh, yeah.
14:37He's pretty loose, but when it's time to work, he made business, so.
14:42Thank you so much, guys.
14:43I appreciate you so much.
14:44DeForest Buckner, Grover, Stewart, I'm going to go try to find a step stool or some sort
14:48of elevated surface for our next interview.
14:50Lara, after doing a stand-up with Joe Reitz last week, I know exactly how you feel.
14:55Thank you very much.
14:56Joe, a Joe with the grab.
14:58That was after one from Jelani Woods.
15:00Solid drive here for the backups for the Colts.
15:03And again, it's Woods getting in motion, and Woods picks up his second first down of the
15:09drive.
15:10Yeah, this is a good day now for Jelani.
15:12He had to drop early, but he's come back with a couple nice completions.
15:17Leonard moves the ball pretty well.
15:19Again, you see him on that bootleg.
15:22All our quarterbacks are adept at getting out on the edge and give you movement throws.
15:2725 catches, 312 yards, and three touchdowns for Jelani.
15:32In 2022, has not appeared in the game in either of the last two seasons.
15:39Again, it's Bentley.
15:41And Bentley bounces outside.
15:44Whoa!
15:45Got a pop and got a couple of yards for his efforts.
15:50Ulysses bounced the edge and then lowered that shoulder.
15:53Tyler and Herring with the tackle for the Packers.
15:59And again, a lot of these guys are guys that are, they want to be on an active roster,
16:05but I think they're trying to fight for practice squads now that there are 16 spots on a practice
16:10squad in the National Football League.
16:12Fourth quarters in the NFL, really, you can rename them the employment ball.
16:16Owen, first down.
16:19There it is, Owen.
16:20See, that's that little option, that little option to the slot that Welker, Edelman, those
16:26guys made that famous.
16:28And this kid can do it.
16:30I don't know where he'll do it, if it'll be here or practice squad or someplace else,
16:34but he will make somebody a decent slot.
16:37He spent one year at Ohio after playing at Northern Arizona, and he set the program record
16:42for the Bobcats with receiving yards in a season.
16:45Had 1,245 in his one year in Athens.
16:50Leonard pulls.
16:52He takes it right up in the briar patch.
16:54I think that was a missed handoff.
16:56I'm not sure, but one thing about Leonard, he ain't afraid now.
17:00He'll take it up in there to traffic.
17:03A non-design draw is what you're telling me?
17:07Yeah, a non-design draw.
17:13Okay, red zone, guys.
17:14High red here.
17:15High red.
17:17So it's second down.
17:23Bentley caught that in motion.
17:27Just shy of the first down marker.
17:30Christian Welch called his name a couple of times, making the tackle.
17:33Here at half number two.
17:36Time to look at third down conversions brought to us by Huntington.
17:39Walk to the bank that believes everyone deserves a shot at financial success.
17:42Huntington, the official bank of the Colts.
17:46That was an excellent throw and catch there.
17:49You know, on that backfield running that wheel.
17:51Nice little shot right on the shoulder.
17:54And Ulysses pulled it in.
17:55Colts three of nine so far on third down in this game.
18:01Blitz coming.
18:01The read.
18:04Joe, a joke.
18:05Could not hang on to it.
18:06Again, he played his college football in the States, but spent last year playing in the CFL.
18:11He is a native of Canada.
18:13And he certainly looks the part.
18:15It's 6'2 and 235.
18:17Couldn't make the grab there.
18:19Schrader on for what would be his fourth field goal of the game.
18:22He grew up in Canada.
18:29His parents are from South Sudan.
18:36Spent time to both Clemson and South Florida.
18:38Did a Joe, a Joe.
18:39Schrader's kick.
18:41No problem.
18:42Colts back in front with 6.38 left to play.
18:4619-16 in our score here in downtown Indy.
18:489-22 in my score here.
19:16When the Colts score, you score.
19:20Check out your favorite hotbox location.
19:22It's going off your entire order every Monday this season
19:24with the promo code COLTS.
19:29Our Citizens Energy Group scoring recap.
19:32Solid drive by Riley Leonard.
19:34Twelve plays and took five minutes and 28 seconds off the clock.
19:38It was capped off by Schrader's fourth field goal of the game.
19:41He has makes from 25, 29, 56, and 32.
19:51Schrader has gotten all the kicking duties today.
19:53Maddox Trujillo is the other kicker that is in camp.
19:57Shorter kick.
19:58We've had no touchbacks in this game.
20:01Abanaconda.
20:03De Shields.
20:05Helps kind of blow that play up and slow things down.
20:08Let's go right back to the sidelines for a Toyota sideline report.
20:11And guest, here's Lara Overton.
20:13Joining me now is Jonathan Taylor, JT.
20:15We have heard Coach Dyke and really want to make this entire training camp
20:19and preseason competitive.
20:20You guys have said this has been a challenging camp.
20:23What position does that put you guys in, in particular as an offense,
20:26going into year three under Shane?
20:28Number one, I just think it creates that edge of when the season comes,
20:32it's not like you have to turn it up a notch.
20:35It's we've already been at that level throughout training camp.
20:37I know people like to ramp training camp up slowly but surely.
20:41But when you come and you create that edge during training camp,
20:44you're able to kind of transition that right into the season
20:46where you know the level of play is going to even intensify even more.
20:50Every offseason, ahead of each season,
20:51I feel like you always have something new that you're trying to add
20:54or an element of your game you try to hone.
20:55What's been the big focus for you coming into 2025?
20:59Number one is staying efficient.
21:00I know a lot of times defense is going to make plays,
21:04but can you somehow negate those plays that the defense make?
21:07If things break down, someone is able to get behind the blocking scheme,
21:11can you get back to the line of scrimmage to turn that negative two-yard run
21:14into a zero-yard gain or a one-yard gain just to keep the sticks moving
21:18or to limit us being behind schedule?
21:20You've had a healthy dose of both Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones
21:25over the course of camp and the preseason.
21:26Where have you seen the most growth from those guys over these last few weeks?
21:31I think it's just being really tuned into the scheme.
21:33Of course, that's always a positive when you have the same guy calling plays
21:37to where you're able to really hone in on little details,
21:41checks, ways to make things look very similar, different formations,
21:45different motions look similar to one scheme.
21:47But we're really running the same scheme,
21:48so I think adding that component going into this year is going to help us a lot.
21:52You've got two new starters on the offensive line.
21:54What have been your impressions of what you have seen
21:56for both Tanner Bortolini and Matt Gonsalves to put you in a great position
22:00to have another outstanding year?
22:01Well, I mean, we've seen Tanner last year when he had to come in
22:05and, you know, we had to lean on him a bit, and I was very excited.
22:08Of course, another Badger.
22:09Always love having another Badger in here.
22:12But also, we got a look at Matt as well when we went to New York for the Jets,
22:16and I really like that intensity that Matt brings.
22:20But both of those guys, great technicians.
22:22They have that grittiness to them,
22:23and I'm looking forward to see how they take that next step this year.
22:26All right, you talked about Tanner.
22:27We also got to talk about the rookie, Hunter Woller.
22:30You got three Badgers here on the roster.
22:32You guys just kind of creating the Wisconsin Alumni Association Indianapolis chapter
22:36down here on the roster?
22:37Well, that was my goal.
22:39When I came out here, I said,
22:40I want to create a pipeline from here to Wisconsin,
22:43and it looks like we've been on the right trend.
22:45So hopefully they got the message,
22:47and we keep going back to Madison to bring guys in.
22:50I want to ask you, too, about the group of guys working in behind you.
22:53What have you seen?
22:54What have you been most impressed by,
22:56especially with the rookie and DJ Giddens?
22:58And then we saw Ulysses out there taking contact.
23:01I think those guys have really been honing in on all of the details,
23:05but really being in tune with the offensive line as well.
23:07I know a lot of times when rookies come in,
23:09it's always about what do I have to do?
23:11What is my job?
23:12But they've really been taking the initiative of figuring out
23:15what's going on up front,
23:16because ultimately that's going to help us do our job easier as well.
23:19JT, appreciate the time.
23:20Thank you so much.
23:22Thank you, Laura.
23:24Lara, great job as always.
23:25Thank you, JT.
23:27Mrs. Raikstra has a master's degree from Wisconsin,
23:29so I'll see if I can get her in some of those alumni meetings as well.
23:33First and 10 at the 45-yard line.
23:36Sean Clifford now is in as the quarterback.
23:38He's been the third stringer of the backup
23:40the last couple of years in Green Bay.
23:42Third-year pro out of Penn State.
23:44Tyreon Davis-Price.
23:45Out of LSU has been the ball to carry the last couple of plays.
23:51Clock is rolling as we approach four minutes left to go.
23:54And Colts are on the road for their preseason finale again next Saturday afternoon
23:58in Cincinnati against the Bengals.
24:00Second consecutive year, the Colts wrap up the preseason in Cincinnati.
24:11Really important to get them stopped here.
24:15Davis-Price picking the ball.
24:21Carrier gets a yard at best.
24:24Wrapped up and dropped.
24:26Mays.
24:26Tackle for the Colts made by B.J. Mays,
24:29who was added to the roster this week for the Colts.
24:32Yep, a lot of these injuries have brought, you know, a lot of transitional guys coming in.
24:39Colts added two running backs.
24:42An offensive lineman, a defensive lineman, and a cornerback this week.
24:463rd down and 4.
24:58Packers 7-14 on 3rd down in the game.
25:03Johnson, 1st down.
25:05Crosses the 35.
25:07Johnson had the touchdown that ended up tying this game.
25:19We will have an official measurement timeout.
25:23So, second time that we've had the virtual measurement in today's game.
25:27And we still have the change on both sides, just to be sure.
25:34Gives the players and fans, obviously, a great virtual, a great visual reference.
25:42Your eyeballs will tell you this is a 1st down.
25:46Not to quote the Alan Parsons project, the eye in the sky.
25:48Let's see exactly what they tell us, as well.
25:52242, back to the wall here.
25:54Somebody's got to make a play.
25:56One of these young kids has got to make a play.
26:02We will step aside.
26:05242, left to go on this one.
26:08You're watching Indianapolis Colts preseason football.
26:11We will step aside.
26:18The Colts and AES Indiana want you to bring the energy to Lucas Oil Stadium all season long.
26:23End of the day for a chance to win VIP field seats in the next Colts home game at colts.com slash AES.
26:34Final 242 of this one.
26:37Colts trying to hang on to their first preseason win.
26:40And training camp continues, but it's now back at the facility.
26:46Players, of course, will get a day off tomorrow.
26:49It goes by so fast today, Greg.
26:51You don't even...
26:52I feel like I got my credentials yesterday.
26:5513 practices in total out at Grand Park.
26:58Crowds were fantastic for everyone.
27:01Clifford the fake.
27:03Throws and flag coming in.
27:08The intended target that time was Julian Hicks.
27:11Interference Colts.
27:12Pass interference defense number 44.
27:21Spot foul first down.
27:24Come on, guys.
27:25Pull this thing out.
27:28So the ball will be moved to the 20-yard line in that vicinity.
27:33The 20-yard line in that vicinity.
27:37Over to 26.
27:39Spot foul.
27:41Two-minute warning not too far away here.
27:4326.
27:43Go on.
27:44You almost consider...
27:51I know it's a preseason game.
27:53I almost consider using timeouts.
27:55Right.
27:55Lumpkin, the man in motion.
28:02On the handoff, it's Johnson.
28:05He'll plunge forward about the 23-yard line for a gain of three.
28:09And it looks like the Packers will be content to let this get to the two-minute warning.
28:15Again, no overtime in preseason football.
28:17We'll see if that affects their decision as to maybe how they attack these final snaps of this one.
28:24Colts maintain a three-point lead as you're watching Colts football.
28:28If you're a diehard Colts fan and want a VIP and tailgate experience, check out Bullseye Event Group's VIP Colts Tailgate before each regular season home game.
28:42Visit BullseyeEventGroup.com for tickets.
28:49The ball's part of the 23-yard line.
28:53Second down.
28:55Three to tie it.
28:58We have a young man that appears to be a bit confused.
29:02He, that, or a fan of blue cheese, one of the two.
29:08Got to have a stop.
29:10Got to knock it out here.
29:11Got to get eternal.
29:13Lumpkin, the receiver, the flat ball is there.
29:14There it is.
29:15Oh, got a shot.
29:17Had a shot.
29:18Isaiah Land, they got his hands on it.
29:23Isaiah's been one of those Mr. August guys.
29:25I mean, he's made a lot of plays in preseason.
29:28And it's going to be a tough roster to crack at that position.
29:33Absolutely.
29:34Because of, you know, investments in Liatu Latu last year.
29:37And now Timo, yep, yep, yep.
29:39JT Tui Moloow.
29:40Of course, the return of Samson Ebuqan.
29:46Who I think looks pretty good in training camp.
29:48To be honest with you, I've been kind of pleased and loved to have him back.
29:52This hurt the first week of camp last year.
29:55Clifford looking for the end zone and knocked away.
29:59Ladarius Tennyson breaks up the pass that was intended for Isaiah Nair.
30:06This is a really great breakup.
30:09You know, he's back, he's back-shouldered, but he doesn't lose his poise.
30:13He gets his head turned at the last minute and makes the play, as I say, in the blind spot.
30:19Got to like that.
30:22I also, like I told you early in the game, I liked his back-shoulders.
30:28If Lou gets his back-shoulders, he'll be able to press all day.
30:31Green Bay 3 of 3 on 4th down tries in this game.
30:36Come on, get it back, man.
30:37Get it back.
30:39Get it back.
30:41Running down, Clifford.
30:42Running down.
30:43A pair of flags are thrown.
30:46He sprints for a first down.
30:48Now let's see what these penalties will be about.
30:51Scott thinks it's on them.
30:52He's pointing them all the way.
30:55Oh.
30:5722 penalties have been accepted in today's game.
31:0112 against the Packers, 10 against the Colts.
31:04There are two fouls, both against the defense.
31:05Holding, defense number 53.
31:07That penalty is declined.
31:08Holding, defense number 36.
31:11That penalty is enforced five yards from the end of the run
31:13with an automatic first down.
31:15And this will give the Packers the ball inside of the 10-yard line.
31:19So first and goal to go for Green Bay.
31:21He would definitely be taking your timeouts in a regular season game.
31:42He wouldn't let him milk it here.
31:43Hand off to Johnson.
31:48Dropped behind the line of scrimmage.
31:51And again, it's Isaiah Land that makes the play.
31:56And timeout has been taken.
31:58And it goes the Colts.
32:02So Shane Steichen playing to win this one.
32:06We will step aside.
32:08A minute 37.
32:09Left to go on this one.
32:11Isaiah Land making plays late.
32:13Trying to deliver.
32:14And Indianapolis Colts win.
32:15As this game is scored in regulation football rules, it's 19-16 Colts.
32:28But Rick Venturi has his own preseason system.
32:31And that score is what and why.
32:33Right now it's 3-2 Colts.
32:363-2 Colts.
32:37If the Colts hang on, they'll win it 4-2.
32:41If Green Bay scores and win it, it'll be 3-3.
32:45I'll elaborate.
32:48We may have to go back to the days of the Decatur Stalys to have a 4-2 game of national football.
32:52That's right.
32:53That's right.
32:56Second and goal.
32:57Clifford will keep.
32:59Clifford will run.
33:00Clifford will score.
33:02And Green Bay takes the lead with a minute 31 to play.
33:05I'll tell you what, though.
33:07It's almost if you're going to score, score now.
33:09I've got two timeouts with 1-31 to go.
33:16Yeah, this is a zone read.
33:19And basically the Colts get totally enamored in covering it.
33:22And he's got to walk in.
33:25But like I said, if you're going to score, have him score quick.
33:29The reason I came up with that scoring system is to put emphasis on your starters
33:34to get a better prediction of where your team really is.
33:38So I give the ice score at 7-3-2-1 by quarter.
33:43So if you win the first quarter, you're going to win seven and you can't be beat.
33:49But we tied at the end of the first quarter.
33:52So that's 7-7.
33:54Now the second quarter, the Colts won.
33:56So they get the three.
33:59And now right now, the score right now, it's right now, it's 3-3.
34:03So, and honestly, it's a little bit different now because in the old days,
34:09your starters always played against their starters.
34:12And so it was a better indication.
34:13I'm happy with today because regardless of the scoring system,
34:18the Colts with their guys that are critical to the game, you know,
34:23we're ahead at the half, 13-3.
34:25So, I mean, that, you know, and our quarterbacks were solid.
34:29Defense was stingy.
34:30You know, that, you know, that's what you got to have.
34:33That's the predictor.
34:35Unfortunately, we didn't really play against their ones.
34:38If there's a negative on today, that plus, as you've been saying all along,
34:44the injury bug just continues to get to us a little bit.
34:47From a passing number standpoint, Daniel Jones in two drives, 7 of 11, 101 yards.
34:53Anthony Richardson.
34:54Frankly, I thought he played better than these numbers will sound.
34:566 of 11 for 73 yards, one carry for nine yards.
35:01He led two scoring drives.
35:03That's the number.
35:04Yeah, I mean, honestly, though, if you walk out of here, though,
35:06you're really happy with both guys, which you do.
35:09You would like separation.
35:11Owen on the return.
35:13Coleman Owen.
35:14All right.
35:16Alexander on the tackle.
35:17Eventually, about the 32-yard line.
35:20Okay, Leonard, let's go to work here.
35:22Go to work.
35:23And Riley Leonard's numbers.
35:24No, it's going to be Beaner.
35:25Well, Jason Bean's going to get his first snaps.
35:28Beaner's going to be in there.
35:29Second year with the team.
35:31Last year was listed as both a quarterback and a wide receiver when he came to camp.
35:36Played nothing but quarterback, and this year now a quarterback.
35:39He can make it happen.
35:40He is fast, and he's got a gun.
35:43It's not always an accurate gun, but he's got a gun, and he can fly if they let him go.
35:48In his last college game, he threw for 449 yards in the Guarantee Rate Bowl.
35:54It's been his first act of the preseason by Owen.
35:57Let's go, guys.
35:58Get up on that ball.
36:00The clock is rolling.
36:01Go.
36:01Cole do have two timeouts remaining.
36:03Go.
36:04You see his combined numbers at North Texas and Kansas.
36:08Got to take some shots here, guys.
36:09You got to go for some jump balls here.
36:13Yeah, they're going to play in that deep, deep, deep quarters.
36:16Oh, and makes the grab.
36:21First down.
36:22Clock rolls.
36:2215-yard pickup.
36:24Come on, guys.
36:26Being last year, 197 yards passing appeared in all three preseason games.
36:31Not see action in a regular season game.
36:33Had two rushing touchdowns during the preseason as well.
36:40Oh, and again.
36:41Good job.
36:42Great throw.
36:43Great throw.
36:44Timeout taken by the Colts with 31 seconds left to go.
36:48As well as at the 31-yard line, a gain of 21 yards.
36:52This is excellent.
36:54They're playing a soft zone.
36:55Bean moves it.
36:56And he throws a day, an aspirin tablet in there to Owen.
37:01And Owen comes up with it again, continuing his terrific spring, his terrific summer.
37:06So, Bean, a perfect three of three so far for 37 yards.
37:12We're going to pull this one out here.
37:16Coleman-Owen now, four catches for 46.
37:20Again, making the active roster as a wide receiver on this team, it's going to be a tough ask.
37:26But, I think practice squad or showcasing your skills for other teams, Owen has most certainly done that.
37:33No question about it.
37:34And he's done it all summer long.
37:36So, you know, there's all those practice squad teams.
37:39There's, you know, there's other teams that are, you know, particularly a slot-oriented type team.
37:45Landon Parker, Tyler Common also in the game for the Colts.
37:52Bean fires.
37:54And if you overthrow Jelani Woods, you have really thrown the ball high at second down.
37:58They ended up really chasing him.
38:00He couldn't, you know, he just couldn't get his body torqued into that throw to bring it down.
38:07Here he comes out of there, sees, you know, the guy's in his face.
38:11And, you know, he does.
38:12He airs it out.
38:13High ball right there.
38:17Come on, take a shot in the end zone here.
38:29Oh, and the man in motion.
38:34Packers drop out of a blitz.
38:36Bean throws the jump ball for Woods, but that ball out of bounds.
38:42Down-wise, it's third from a time and snap-wise, maybe three snaps of this game left to go.
38:51Yeah, you got one timeout, so you can, you can still throw one in the middle of the field.
38:56You can still throw one to get down around the 15.
38:59Because they're playing soft zone.
39:02There's a hole back in there.
39:05Get number three back in that hole.
39:08And a timeout taken by the Green Bay Packers.
39:10I wouldn't be surprised they bring it here.
39:15They've been faking blitz, but they've been dropping out of there.
39:17I wouldn't be surprised they don't bring the heat here.
39:20Again, a reminder, we'll be with you again next Saturday when the Colts visit the Cincinnati Bengals.
39:24All these same affiliates and where you are watching today's game, you can watch again next week as well.
39:31Joe Reitz rejoins me in the booth.
39:33Lara Olberton on the sidelines.
39:35Rick, we missed you in Baltimore.
39:38We look forward to having you focus on home games here on TV and radio in 2025.
39:42Yeah, this knee just went bad on me.
39:45And I went to the Colts, and I said, would it be possible for me just to work the home games?
39:50I think the road games are going to be just a challenge until I get this fixed in January.
39:56And they were great about it.
39:57And we've got such good people, Joe and Charles.
40:02I mean, we're just so blessed.
40:04We have such great people to do games, you and Matt.
40:07It's really – so I'm thrilled with it.
40:10It keeps me in it without, you know, having to do every game.
40:13Third and ten.
40:14Bean finds the escape hatch for now.
40:17And Bethleh could not hang on to it.
40:20Fourth down.
40:21All right.
40:22Hail Mary time here.
40:23Let's go.
40:25Hail Mary time.
40:27Need to get the football to the 21-yard line to keep the drive going to the Colts.
40:32One thing you can see with Bean is that guy can move.
40:35I mean, that guy gets in and out of trouble.
40:37Tremendous speed.
40:40Had 53 yards rushing in three preseason games a year ago, did Bean.
40:45Shoot, they're one-on-one on the outside.
40:50Throw it up.
41:00Let her go.
41:01Bean.
41:02Looking for Woods for the end zone.
41:04He got it.
41:05Jelani Woods.
41:06He got it.
41:07Come on.
41:07Has the catch.
41:09He is out of bounds.
41:09He's out of bounds on the –
41:11Side of the goal line.
41:12Oh.
41:13But Woods makes the grab for a game of 30 yards.
41:16Six seconds.
41:20You know, the crowd noise wouldn't tell you this is the second preseason game.
41:23It really wouldn't.
41:24It's been a great crowd.
41:26And there is a chance.
41:27This gets looked at and reviewed.
41:29This may be a game-winning touchdown.
41:31Terrific play by Bean and Jelani.
41:35Terrific play.
41:37What a fun way here to finish this game up.
41:40And they're going to hold the play up.
41:41This is an automatic review in the final two minutes.
41:44This is being looked at in the booth upstairs.
41:48Come on, guys.
41:48You've got to get it in here.
41:49You've got to pull this out.
41:51You've come too far.
41:52The work may have been done, Rick.
41:54This may be a touchdown.
41:58Or they may have said he did not get a second foot down.
42:01That is correct.
42:03Okay.
42:04Great effort.
42:06Great effort anyway.
42:09I knew they scored too quick.
42:12We had a shot.
42:13Golly, we had a shot.
42:14Deemed to be that he did not make the catch in the field of play.
42:19You see Shane Steichen's thoughts on the matter.
42:22Let's take one more look at it.
42:32Let's take one more look at it.
42:33Perhaps he was juggling the football.
42:45Look at Shane.
42:46Shane.
42:46After he had contact.
42:47He's battling for it.
42:50I like that.
42:52Shane is getting an explanation
42:53from our referee
42:55and Alex Moore as we speak.
43:00Great effort by these kids here at the end.
43:03Great effort.
43:04He's got one foot down,
43:05two foot down again.
43:06And then is dragging a foot there.
43:13It's another foot down.
43:15That one's close.
43:23This is one there's probably a lot more consternation about
43:26if it were a regular season game.
43:29Oh, my God.
43:31You could cancel their flight,
43:33the ref's flight.
43:34It was a regular season game.
43:36Clifford will take the knee.
43:37That's it and that's all.
43:39Under the protest of some Colts fans in the building,
43:42the Green Bay Packers will win this one
43:44by a score of 23-19.
43:46But, again, big picture,
43:49I think Shane Steichen saw what he needed to from his team today.
43:51There's no doubt about it.
43:53You know, the big picture,
43:54I was pretty happy with the first half.
43:56I thought both quarterbacks keep it muddled,
44:01to be honest with you.
44:02But this time it was out of strength.
44:03It was out of really good performance.
44:05I really like the defensive aggressiveness,
44:08even though we're really down players.
44:11Lou didn't, you know, he didn't come off the gas.
44:13He played his pressing defense.
44:15He got after it.
44:17And so, really, the important thing in a game like this
44:20is really the first half,
44:22is those are going to be the guys
44:23that are going to line up against Miami.
44:25You know, in 21 days.
44:28So, that was critical.
44:29I would say the biggest thing,
44:31and this was a bit of a problem a year ago,
44:34I think the biggest thing we've got to do
44:35is finish drives.
44:37You know what I mean?
44:38You've got to, you can't,
44:41threes are not going to do it for you.
44:44I mean, they did it for us.
44:45But, you know, you've got to finish drives
44:47to win this game.
44:48Got a stat to back that up,
44:50and I'll share that with you when we come back.
44:51But, although, your eyes may tell you
44:54the Colts may have finished this game.
44:57Wasn't called that way.
44:58Jelani Woods.
44:59One, two, turns, crosses the pylon,
45:05and drags a foot.
45:07That was deemed to not be a catch.
45:09Maybe it was that little bobble right there.
45:12Again, it's the preseason.
45:13We'll move on quickly.
45:15Packers 23, Colts 19.
45:17We'll come back and wrap it up next
45:19as you've been watching Colts preseason football.
