00:00And Matt Ryan up for debate, we could add that debate, but the time is right.
00:04Well, the Falcons won the toss, they have elected to receive, so Tennessee will kick off.
00:10Joey Sly will kick off, and back to Natron Brooks and Jesse Matthews.
00:15Justin Cutcher, Coywire, DJ Shockman, Jen Hale with you here from Atlanta.
00:20Preseason week number two.
00:22And this will be fielded at the goal line by Brooks.
00:36Brooks takes it back to the 24-yard line, and that's where this Falcons offense will start.
00:42Behind Easton Stick, who shocked last week, he was impressive.
00:46Impressive, yes he was.
00:48I'm talking about on target, the ball died of his hand, didn't hold on to it a lot.
00:52They made some really accurate throws in the game.
00:54His guy has a chance to make plays down the field.
00:57You see that perfect throw and touchdown right there.
00:59Easton Stick, if he can put together two consecutive weeks, he's making a case for it.
01:03You know what, maybe a lot of teams running lead need to take notice of what he can do.
01:08But this guy is playing really good football.
01:10Stick and the shotgun with Nathan Carter starting as a tailback.
01:14On first down, they want to establish the run.
01:16It is a run, and a good opening run for Nathan Carter.
01:20Excited to watch this offense get started tonight.
01:24We were talking with offensive coordinator Zach Robinson before the game,
01:28and it's going to be T.J. Yates calling some of the plays tonight.
01:31And Coach Robinson was kind of chuckling about T.J. wants to open it up a little bit tonight.
01:36A little more motions, a little downfield shot.
01:38That's hard to do because you want to be vanilla, but when you get a chance to call plays,
01:43you're like, you know what, maybe I can open it up and throw it out the field of it,
01:46but that can still be kind of vanilla.
01:48Rolling out.
01:49The pass complete to David Sills, the fifth.
01:53And Sills will take it up right by the first down marker.
01:56He's going to be short.
01:57It'll be third and short.
01:59Don't you like getting on the edge here?
02:00Getting your quarterback on the corner right here.
02:02Watch it.
02:02Look at all the flow, outside zoning, coming back across, and just giving the football.
02:06Nice, easy completion.
02:08Give yourself a chance here for third and one, and Yates, a pretty easy call.
02:12Expect the ball to be on the ground.
02:14They want to run the football better than they did last week.
02:16I'm about showing it right here with a tough physical run.
02:18You see T.J. Yates right in the middle of the screen there.
02:22Quarterback keeper.
02:24And they move the chains with Easton Stick.
02:28And, yes, they do still move the chains.
02:34Real humans out there.
02:35The chain gang is not going away.
02:39Of course, Justin talking about the new Hawkeye technology, the cameras throughout the stadium.
02:44We get those digital reviews from time to time when there's a close call.
02:50First and ten.
02:51Still swings it out.
03:00There's Drummond.
03:01Dylan Drummond.
03:02Last week had a fantastic week.
03:05It seemed like every time he was targeted, he made the catch.
03:09And you spot out eight targets, eight receptions in the ball game.
03:12You're talking about 63 yards in the air.
03:14This guy got it done.
03:15We never put it in his area.
03:17He made a catch with it.
03:18That was kind of a run-pass option there for Easton Stick.
03:20You saw the offensive line going straight zone to the right.
03:23Comes back because he has numbers to the left.
03:25First job with Drummond.
03:26Getting up the field.
03:27Trying to get what he can.
03:28Getting two yards out of it.
03:29But you're right, Justin.
03:30I'm going to Drummond.
03:31He made some noise last week.
03:34He's in motion here on second down and eight.
03:39Hand-off to Carter.
03:40Carter has nowhere to go.
03:42Stopped right away by James Lynch.
03:45Sixth-year player out of Baylor.
03:46Tennessee had 11 men in the box there.
03:51There was a safety starting to drop out a bit late.
03:53But Coach Morris getting a look at some of his depth players.
03:58Running back as a position.
03:59Who's going to be that third running back on this team?
04:02Second season as a Falcons head coach.
04:04And the system is in place.
04:06There's no more catching up, he told us.
04:08You know, they know the system.
04:09The players who've been here.
04:10The coaches.
04:11They're ready to rock and let this thing lose a bit.
04:13Stick on third and eight.
04:18Pressure coming to the sideline.
04:20Wide open is Sills who makes the catch.
04:23And he will have the first down.
04:25He needed seven.
04:26He got seven.
04:27Nice job of getting his depth there, too.
04:28But also give the offensive line a lot of credit there.
04:31He had a nice, clean pocket.
04:33He was able to step up and, you know, deliver the ball to Sills.
04:35That's another nice catch by him.
04:37Sometimes you see receivers don't get their proper depth.
04:40But he goes above the line of the game.
04:43And you see him come back down to the football.
04:44That's a great job of attacking it there.
04:46But a great conversion there on third and eight all the way around.
04:49And that offense from protection to throw to the catch.
04:52Sills was a highly touted quarterback coming out of high school.
04:56Now a wide receiver.
04:57Played wide receiver at West Virginia.
04:59He knows all the routes incredibly well.
05:03First down.
05:04Another handoff.
05:04Trying to break it is Carter.
05:06Carter will pick up a couple yards again.
05:11Tackled by Arden Kee.
05:15It was Nathan Carter who was the running back last week when Maurice Norris went for that tackle.
05:22That really ended the game.
05:23An update for Maurice Norris, the Detroit Lions.
05:27He stayed overnight in the hospital here in Atlanta.
05:30Returned to Detroit on Saturday.
05:33He's back at the facility.
05:35He's in concussion protocol.
05:36But he's doing well.
05:37Easing his way back into action.
05:39Which is great news.
05:40Irving Day-Rack.
05:44Jayshon Corbin in the backfield now.
05:46Picks up the pressure.
05:47But there's some more pressure.
05:49And down goes Stip.
05:51A sack by Cedric Gray.
05:53That'll be a loss of seven.
05:56That was a full head of steam coming downhill.
06:00Timed that blitz up perfectly.
06:02And your running back tries to get in front.
06:04But my goodness.
06:06That was an excellent rush and finish for the Titans there.
06:10So now third and 15 here for the Falcons.
06:16Ninth play of the drive.
06:17Take it for five minutes on the drive.
06:24Pump fake.
06:25Swing it out.
06:26Nick Nash.
06:27Nash is going nowhere.
06:29He may lose a yard on this play.
06:31So that'll force the punt team to come on.
06:33Arden Key with that tackle.
06:35Yeah.
06:35The Wiley vet there.
06:36Eighth-year guy for the Tennessee Titans.
06:39And he kind of smelled that from the beginning.
06:40Ran another line of scrimmage and made that play.
06:43Trying to just pick up a few yards here.
06:44Maybe you can bust a screen out here.
06:46But nice job by Tennessee there.
06:48Getting enough feel to make that play.
06:51James Brochet is back for Tennessee.
06:55On to punt.
06:56Bradley Pinion.
06:57This could be a perfect kick.
07:11Wow.
07:12What a punt.
07:13Down at the six.
07:15Bradley Pinion.
07:16A booming punt.
07:18That's 55 yards.
07:21No score here in the first quarter.
07:22You got a dip.
07:28Falcons.
07:29As the Titans take the field.
07:31Let's go down.
07:31Say hello to Jen Hale.
07:33We'll catch the hallmark of this new Jeff Ulbricht defense.
07:36It's an aggressive attack.
07:37But yeah, it's going to give up some yards.
07:39But it prioritizes creating turnovers.
07:42Putting the ball back in the hands of this Falcons offense.
07:46Chatting with Ulbricht pregame.
07:47He told me last week he loved the physical aggression.
07:51The fearlessness he saw out of this unit.
07:53But he thought execution suffered.
07:55It can be hard to play crisp and clean when you're trying to be that aggressive.
07:59However, that is Ulbricht's challenge to his unit tonight.
08:02Drilling down on this pass rush we're about to see versus Cam Ward.
08:05The entire Falcons organization loved what they saw out of individual pass rushers.
08:10But tonight, the next step, seeing them work as a cohesive unit together to impact the entire offense.
08:16And let's see how they do against the number one overall pick.
08:19Cam Ward out of the pocket.
08:20His first throw is complete to Ellick Iam Manor down the sideline.
08:25Iam Manor is down all the way to the 45-yard line.
08:29A pickup of 35 yards.
08:32Looks like he got walked down inside.
08:34And he saw him get outside and watch James Pierce goes inside.
08:37And now he loses contain.
08:39And now you got Cam Ward on the outside.
08:41That's an easy pitch and catch for him.
08:43And that's the one that, as a quarterback, it helps you settle down when you make this easy completion.
08:48But the number one overall pick out of Miami.
08:50Unbelievable story.
08:52But the guy's done everything you want.
08:54I mean, 4,000 yards last season in Miami.
08:57Been phenomenal for him.
08:59And on to Grel Mullings.
09:01And Mullings takes it to the 47, excuse me, 48-yard line as Xavier Watts makes the tackle his second streak.
09:11Good to see that rookie on court.
09:14Yeah.
09:15Watts is absolutely one of these players that you don't have to get him to catch up at all.
09:21He came in.
09:22You know, I was talking to Jerry Gray, the assistant head coach.
09:24He kind of oversees the secondary, and he could tell right away how he was so well coached in college
09:29because he already has it all together in terms of technique and willingness to go and make some carries in that second one.
09:37Ward on the run.
09:38Flag is thrown in the backfield.
09:40Probably a hold him as this ball is thrown out of bounds.
09:43Incomplete.
09:43Van Jefferson, the intended receiver.
09:52Holding.
09:53Offense number 28.
09:55Ten-yard penalty.
09:56Second down.
09:57The referee, Brad Allen, the hold against the running back, Kahlil Mullings, as he held D. Alford.
10:04The foul is trying to go with a little pressure there.
10:06And you see the running back here right off your corner here.
10:09And as he tries to get away, you see him hold on to him a little bit.
10:12He's going to call that every time.
10:15But Cam Ward, easy 50-yard toss right there, even though it was incomplete.
10:20But nice job of putting a little pressure on this young quarterback to see how he adapted.
10:24Of course, we've talked about they had to join practice this week.
10:26The Falcons were able to get their hands on a couple of Cam Ward footballers.
10:29We just see Nate's end of the practice with the interception one day.
10:332nd and 13 now for Tennessee.
10:41Ward.
10:43Plenty of time in the pocket.
10:45Throws.
10:46And that ball is incomplete.
10:47In and out of the hands of Van Jefferson.
10:51He had his man open.
10:53He had plenty of time to throw it, too.
10:55And that's a long way to cover if you're a defensive back.
10:58It was Natron Brooks there trying to come all the way from the right side of your screen to the left.
11:04And just look at that window.
11:05Just firing it in there between three Falcons defenders.
11:08You can see the zip Cam Ward puts on that ball.
11:10He stays, pours in the pocket, and just lets it fly.
11:13And the point he had time to get there, Corey.
11:15That was the third window.
11:16He came from all the way across the field in that deep over route.
11:19That's not what Gene was talking about.
11:22They didn't get pressure.
11:23That was not what he wanted.
11:24They're having all the time.
11:25But big third down here.
11:26On third and 13.
11:29Let's see if that pass is ruled a lateral.
11:31They're going to say it was a forward pass, I believe.
11:34And now they'll force the punt.
11:38It's good resilience there by the defense.
11:40You give up a couple of big plays.
11:42And then you go out here.
11:43Side arm throw.
11:44You don't see that.
11:45From many quarterbacks in the league.
11:47But the ones who can make them, they're the special ones.
11:50Good job on the defense there.
11:53Persevering.
11:54Buying themselves another opportunity here to get the ball back to their offense.
11:59Johnny Hecker, one of the biggest punters you'll see at 6'5", 225.
12:04On to punt D. Alford standing back at his own 9.
12:10This is a good high punt.
12:13Alford at the 5.
12:15Escapes a couple of tackles.
12:17And he'll take it back to the 14-yard line.
12:21So a 9-yard return after a 53-yard punt.
12:29No score here in the first.
12:30Falcons and Titans.
12:31And those joint practices, as Coy talked about in the open, there was a lot to talk about in regards to Michael Penix Jr. this week.
12:55Nathan Carter again in the backfield to open up this series.
12:59Drummond in motion.
13:00The toss to Carter.
13:03Carter does a flip as he gets a yard to the 15.
13:07We heard Michael Penix talk about what happened this week.
13:11Football is a competitive sport, so like, I like to compete at a high level.
13:18And when I compete, I don't really do too much talking until somebody says something to me.
13:23And then maybe I want to, okay, I threw a touchdown.
13:25Not what y'all talking about.
13:26They probably looked at me as just a quarterback.
13:28I wasn't that type of person.
13:30But I'm from Tampa.
13:36I'm from, no, I'm from, I'm from Dade City.
13:40I'm from Tampa.
13:42Will anybody ever forget where he's from?
13:45That is incredible stuff.
13:46His, you know, our starting linebacker, Caden Ellis, said afterwards, my quarterback is different.
13:52And as you heard him say, people think I'm just a quarterback.
13:54And he's got all the intangibles, but he has the leadership ability.
13:58You know, Coach Morris told us about how he came in and he noticed the humility right away,
14:04willing to sit in the wings of Kirk Cousins and just work his way into becoming worthy of being that starting quarterback.
14:12And now that he is, we've seen all camp long, he's no check down McCown, as Coach Raheem Morris said.
14:17He's letting loose.
14:18He's developing a relationship with his tight end, Kyle Pitts.
14:21But I don't understand why there is a big uproar about QBs and their ability to say they're getting a scuffer.
14:27Because, I mean, we're tough dudes, too.
14:29I mean, we've got to stand in there when dudes are coming down, 300 pounds, and trying to hit us.
14:34So, you know, he had to let you know, though, look, hey, I might play quarterback, but I ain't no punk.
14:40That's what he's saying.
14:41He let everyone know on that tight end sideline again this week.
14:44Good run up the middle after a nice run around by Dylan Drummond, the pickup of eight by Nathan Carter.
14:51The reason why, Shock, is because quarterbacks get paid the most, okay?
14:56So everyone else is there to defend you.
14:59Make sure you're healthy.
15:01I get that, but once you continue to push the buttons, you've got to stand up for yourself, man.
15:06That's what Mike did.
15:08And the culprit, you know who he's trying to stand up to?
15:12Big Justin Simmons.
15:13So that tells you a lot about Michael Piggies as well.
15:15You look over there and you've got Justin Simmons over there who is all a 300-plus and been around his lead for a minute.
15:22Not shying away from that.
15:24Third down and one coming up here for the Falcons.
15:28Shock, you talked about this, the run game.
15:31Can they get those short yards?
15:32As we saw earlier, Easton Stick, quarterback sneak.
15:36He's in the shotgun here on third and one.
15:42He'll pass to his tailback out of the backfield.
15:46A nice effort by Carter to evade that would-be tackle by James Williams Sr.
15:52And he's able to get the first down into Tennessee territory.
15:57Falcons football is back.
15:58Become a season ticket member and unlock access to best-in-class benefits.
16:03Limited inventory remains.
16:04Don't wait to secure your seats.
16:09Excuse me, I mentioned Justin Simmons, Jeffrey Simmons, excuse me for the Titans.
16:12But a nice job of stick right there, just getting that football out of his hands,
16:15getting into his playmaker's hands where he can make a play on the guy.
16:18And guess what?
16:19All you need is a couple yards and Carter.
16:21You're going to have to hit him to get that first down.
16:23He's trying to get that first down.
16:24He takes the handoff.
16:28Will lose a yard.
16:29Tackled back at about the 49 of the Falcons.
16:34And that is Femi all the Dejo.
16:40Titans have made a concerted effort to get bigger on the edge to bring on bringing in Dromont Jones,
16:46Lorenzo Carter in free agency, and then Aladejo in the second round.
16:50In particular, a player to watch as he adjusts to a new position.
16:54I don't think, you know, for competing for playing time on this new-look defensive front.
16:58Empty backfield here.
16:59Nathan Carter near side.
17:01Pumped by Stick, and that one is picked, and it could be a pick six.
17:10It is taking it to the house.
17:16Kendall Brooks, 53 yards.
17:21Yeah, we're going to watch this again, but Easton is the one he's going to want back.
17:24He eyed him down just a second too long, and give him a lot of credit for breaking on that football.
17:31There's Kendall Brooks, and taking it all the way back to the house.
17:35And you see Easton hold on to it.
17:37You see his eyes are left the whole time.
17:38He pump fakes, and usually on a quick route like that, you've got to let the football go,
17:42and you can't pump fake on a quick route like that because these guys are fast enough to make it.
17:46Make a break on it as would, as Brooks did there.
17:49Joey Sly on for the extra point.
17:51A 53-yard return for the pick six.
17:58Extra point is no good.
18:07A missed extra point, but a pick six by Kendall Brooks.
18:10Six-nothing Tennessee.
18:11Six-nothing.
18:18The Titans now lead the Falcons after that pick six.
18:21Joey Sly on to kick.
18:24Atron Brooks, Jesse Matthews back.
18:26This one was going to go into the end zone, and it is.
18:30It'll be a touchback, so this will now start at the 35, one of the new rules this year.
18:35Right now, it's time for AT&T connecting with the rookies.
18:39It's one of those guys they drafted defensively, Billy Bowman Jr.
18:44Out of Oklahoma.
18:47They expect big plays out of him.
18:49They are in a battle with their starting nickel.
18:53Who wants it type of situation.
18:55Dee Alford and, you know, some of those other guys.
18:58Neutron Brooks really battling out this camp, but the hope is that Billy Bowman can really
19:03get up to speed and be that playmaker that we saw him in his collegiate career.
19:09They have really high hopes for him.
19:10Yeah, one of those guys is a real ball hawk.
19:12Eleven career INTs.
19:14Four-four-two speed, but also has the body to play within the box for being able to play
19:19the run game as well.
19:20Elijah Dotson now in that tailback.
19:25Pass comes near side, Drummond.
19:27Drummond will take it to the 40, picks up five on first down.
19:32I want the trust there to come back and allow East to stick to throw it right away.
19:36You throw a pick six, sometimes you're thinking about it, but I love that Yeath comes back
19:40and gives him the opportunity to throw the football, to get that little jitter out of
19:43here that, hey, all right, that one's over and done with, pick up yourself to completion,
19:47now you get going.
19:48You're right, you're right, you're right.
19:52Rebound, Rebound, Rebound.
19:55Felipe Franks, the tight end in motion.
20:00Up the middle for Dotson.
20:03They'll pick up two.
20:05Third down coming up.
20:07This third-string quarterback situation here with the Falcons is a very important one.
20:11You know, they could become quickly Michael Penix's backup.
20:15You're going back two years, less than 50% of starting quarterbacks made it to the end
20:19of the season.
20:19So if another team has a starter go down, Cousins would be one of the first people on their
20:24board.
20:25So Easton's stick and Jones really fighting for potentially a backup quarterback spot.
20:33It's already three of four on third downs in this game.
20:37On third and three, taking the shot down the field, a wobbly pass.
20:46And there are the flags.
20:48Drummond, the intended receiver.
20:51Armani Aruarie on the coverage.
20:54Might be interesting to see who they call it on.
20:57Yeah, that's what I thought.
20:57I thought they may call it on Drummond, which they did.
21:01He just seemed to lose the ball.
21:03He was looking around and trying to grab.
21:06Pass interference.
21:08Offense number 81.
21:10The penalty has declined.
21:11It's fourth down.
21:12And watch it on the edge here.
21:1769 Jack Nelson is getting pushed right into Eastern stick.
21:20But you see at the end here, Drummond pulls the defensive back.
21:23Not sure if he lost it or he thought he didn't have a chance to get it.
21:26But look at him wrap his arms around the defensive back.
21:29And like he never even saw the football through.
21:32They're going to call P.I. on the offense.
21:36Bradley Pinion on to punt again.
21:38The battle of the biggest punchers you'll see.
21:41P.I.N. 6'5", 265.
21:44Chaquan Jackson is back deep.
21:48Angle punts.
21:50Fair catch.
21:50Signaled and made at the 11-yard line.
21:54A 47-yard punt this time by Pinion.
21:5859 seconds to go here in the first quarter.
22:04Falcons trailing 6-0 under a minute to go here in the first quarter.
22:08Jeff Ulbrich and his defense trying to get after this rookie quarterback, Cam Ward.
22:15First overall pick in this year's draft after the Titans went 3-14 last year, ending the season on a six-game losing streak.
22:28Julius Chestnut takes the handoff.
22:31He'll get wrapped up at the line of scrimmage.
22:33J.D. Bertrand, they are first to make contact.
22:38And Jeff, Coach, a lot of conversations about these year two guys.
22:41And J.D. Bertrand is one of those guys, got some experience last season, played in some ball games.
22:46But you got Ruka Roro, who is on that defensive front.
22:49Braylon Trice, who is coming back from injury.
22:51They are really excited about that group in year two and have them be a big part of what they do,
22:57especially on the defensive side of the ball.
23:00A lot of experience with J.D. Bertrand last year getting the type of play.
23:03Dan Moore right now, number 75, the left tackle for Tennessee, is walking off the field very slowly.
23:10A lot of experience with J.D. Bertrand last year getting the type of play.
23:41J.D. Bertrand, Mattar, gets wrapped up.
23:42J.D. Bertrand, Mattar, Stanford guy.
23:45J.D. Bertrand, Mattar, just wanted to bring a smile to your face.
23:47J.D. Bertrand, Mattar, wishing him well tonight.
23:50Tall, athletic, he makes some incredible catches.
23:53We've seen lots of one-handed grabs from his highlights and his collegiate career.
23:58He's got a pretty nice quarterback tossing in the ball here in Tennessee.
24:01You can see the defense there for the Falcons really swarming this year.
24:05They're able to play fast in this new Ulbricht system.
24:08That is the end of the first quarter with Tennessee leading 6-0.
24:13We'll be back after this short timeout.
24:19You got to dip your chicken.
24:22Start of the second quarter here in Atlanta, 6-0, Tennessee on top.
24:27And it's third and eight right now for Tennessee at their own 13.
24:34Ward in the shotgun, and we've got movement up front.
24:38Full start.
24:41Offense, number 55.
24:43Five-yard penalty.
24:45Third down.
24:48Latham in there, but you look up and you look on that defensive line.
24:51You got Braylon Trice, number 48.
24:54You got Ruka Roro is in there.
24:56You got Brandon Dorlis in there.
24:57All second-year guys that we were just talking about who to play a huge role.
25:01Can they get honed in?
25:02You got your first-round pick at the top of the screen, number 27,
25:05in James Pierce, Jr.
25:06Billy Bowman out there.
25:07So, a lot of young talent will feel right here for the Falcons, along with J.D. Bertrand.
25:11Shock.
25:12Don't skimp out on a row for Ororoo.
25:16I gave him three.
25:17That's all.
25:19Third and 13.
25:21Pass over the middle.
25:22So, incomplete was intended for Chimerae D.K.
25:25So, this defense for the Falcons will force a punt.
25:32D. Alford, he's getting ready to make the return.
25:37And you see the push from the inside.
25:39Nice push in the pocket right there.
25:41Forcing a little errant throw from Cam Ward, but nice job there.
25:45Good coverage.
25:47Would have been a great throw to fit that one in there, but a good job of getting off the field.
25:50Johnny Hecker, punching from the back of his own end zone.
25:59Alford, from his 40, there is a flag thrown.
26:02And Alford takes it across the 50, scampers out of bounds, and we'll wait to see what this flag is for.
26:11See how far he threw that flag?
26:14I mean, that was at least 20 yards of airtime with that flag.
26:27During the kick, holding, receiving team number 35, 10-yard penalty from the end of the kick.
26:34It's first down.
26:34All right, while we have a minute, let's find where in Mercedes-Benz Stadium is Jen Hale.
26:42I've been on the move, Kutch, and now I am up in the new Sports Illustrated Lounge,
26:48the latest edition here at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
26:51It is an absolutely gorgeous man experience.
26:54First of all, nods to the Falcons' history everywhere.
26:57I love all the black and white photos.
26:59Of course, the Sports Illustrated covers featuring some of the best, the Michael Vicks and the Matt Ryans,
27:03but also Atlanta United, the championship-winning soccer franchise owned by the Blank family.
27:09Nodds to them as well.
27:10Okay, so this is right above the AT&T perch.
27:13Again, brand new.
27:14The perch became so popular, they needed another spot for fans.
27:18So this seats 750 people, and look at how crowded it already is just for a preseason game.
27:25It actually opened in July for the Beyonce concert.
27:27Falcons fans getting their first look at it now and loving it.
27:30You've got premium food, all sorts of drinks.
27:33And check out this view of the field, guys, panoramic views of the field and Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
27:40So fans up here basically get kind of seeing what y'all see up in the booth as well.
27:44Very affordable, very luxurious.
27:47If you're interested, check out the Atlanta Falcons ticket website at atlantafalcons.com, guys.
27:52Jen, thank you so much.
27:54Maybe the last time we see Jen.
27:55I mean, that would look cool to be up there.
27:57I ain't gonna lie.
27:59Well, that, she's lucky it's not us up there because with the unlimited food.
28:04Yeah, we got no chance.
28:05Yeah.
28:05I don't know if we'd watch much football.
28:07Just another feather in the cap of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, right?
28:10It's already one of the greatest sports venues in the world.
28:12Hard to believe it's been here for nine years already, but they're always adapting and evolving
28:16for the fans' needs.
28:19In honor of Play Football Month, Falcons distributed 2,000 tickets to youth and high school.
28:23Girls flag and boys tackle football teams for today's game.
28:27Cedar Grove High School, Creekside High School in the house.
28:31It's fun even in the preseason here in the A.
28:33And, Coy, you talk about most people come here and say,
28:37oh, this is a very nice stadium.
28:38No, this is, like you just mentioned, a venue.
28:40There's so many things that go on inside the beautiful Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
28:45They continue to add to it with the Sports Illustrated Lounge.
28:48They're always trying to make it better.
28:49I mean, they want the game experience to be number one.
28:52And you got another big game coming here.
28:54The Georgia Tech game's going to be here.
28:56It's going to be a cool environment to have those two programs in this place.
29:01This will be a false start.
29:05I know you were here for that Beyoncé concert shot.
29:08Offense, number 71.
29:10Well, I'm going to be honest.
29:11Still third down.
29:12I didn't know many country songs.
29:13I was not here.
29:14My wife was here for sure.
29:16She left tackle.
29:19A little bit of movement.
29:21Elijah Wilkinson right there.
29:23Ninth-year guy out of UMass.
29:27Not what you want to see.
29:28You're already in third and long.
29:29But, yeah, I was not a part of the country music Beyoncé.
29:33But I am a fan of Beyoncé now.
29:34I'm not going to say I'm not.
29:36But my wife, she was here for that one.
29:39Cool.
29:40You didn't take part at all?
29:43Third and 21.
29:45Wow.
29:47Pass to Chris Blair.
29:49Ooh.
29:50One says yes.
29:51One says no.
29:52Pass to Chris Blair.
29:54Four-head.
29:55Four-head.
29:57They're going to say no cash.
29:59Did not get both down.
30:02Some nice throw here.
30:03Stepping to it on time.
30:05I only get one foot in.
30:07Love the throw.
30:08Love the tough hands catch there by Chris Blair, who had him a nice week last week with three catches as well.
30:13And our Jen Hill talked to Terry Fontenot, the general manager, before the game.
30:18And he said that fifth and sixth receiver spot, that's something he's going to be watching tonight.
30:22That was a nice catch by Chris Blair there.
30:24In his case, for making this team.
30:26Crochet lets it bounce.
30:28And this will be downed by the Falcons at the 31-yard line.
30:33There is another flag on the play.
30:39Seems like special teams on punts.
30:41We have tons of flags.
30:42During the kick, holding, receiving team number 57.
30:47Ten-yard penalty from the end of the kick.
30:50It's first down.
30:51Timeout.
30:52That'll be against Curtis Jacobs.
30:55Just underway in the second.
30:57Six-nothing Tennessee over Atlanta.
31:03Falcons trailing six-nothing.
31:05Justin Kutcher, Coy Wire, DJ Shockley, Jen Hill with you.
31:09Preseason week number two.
31:12Cam Ward under center.
31:14Hello, Mullins in the backfield for Tennessee.
31:18Play action.
31:19Ward towards the sideline.
31:22And that ball was high intended for Iamanar.
31:25Let's take a look at our first quarter highlights presented by AT&T.
31:30We're still getting going.
31:32You're seeing a nice completion here on third down.
31:34The Seals who gets the foot in it.
31:36We're talking about a monster punt here.
31:39I think it's 55 yards.
31:41Dropping it right there by the five-yard line.
31:46And then a nice run here out in the middle here by Carter.
31:49Just getting north and south.
31:50They want to emphasize run the football better.
31:53Already have more rushing yards than they had last week.
31:56You knew it would be an emphasis from head coach Raheem Morris.
31:58Coming into preseason week two, they wanted to emphasize.
32:02We've got to run the rock better.
32:03Empty backfield here on second and ten.
32:06Ward steps up, throws, and completes the pass to Bryce Oliver.
32:10A nine-yard completion will bring up third and one.
32:15Before that pass, Corey Cameron Ward was only one of five.
32:19Had a big throw for 35 yards.
32:21Looked like you're trying to get him an easy completion there.
32:23He's trying to pull the ball down the field a little bit more.
32:25But until that throw, offense has been kind of business.
32:30Yeah.
32:30And you have to feel good about your backup, secondary, your linebackers,
32:34and your defensive front who's making them a little uneasy at times in there.
32:38This is the number one overall pick.
32:39You know he has all the talent in the world.
32:41He's going to be third and three.
32:51Ward.
32:53There's a lot of contacts.
32:55No flag.
32:57The offer.
32:59Against I am Anna.
33:01One of the top of position battle.
33:04We talked about the offer right there.
33:06We already see Billy Bowman a little bit, but a nice job here.
33:08In the hip pocket on his inside fade, and he doesn't give him much there.
33:13Just making him battle and getting off the field on third down.
33:17Nice job from the offer.
33:19Well, guys, how about this?
33:20We talked about the job that Dylan Drummond has done as a receiver.
33:24Now here he is, punt return.
33:27Again, a chance to make the team in different ways.
33:30Show your versatility.
33:31He's got it.
33:38Drummond says, I'll fair catch it.
33:42No problem.
33:43No problem.
33:44You know what?
33:44Punt returning could be a bit scary.
33:48You got to dip your chicken strips.
33:55Hey.
33:55I've been lucky since 1909.
33:57Falcons have the ball, 1241 to go here in the first half at their own 29.
34:08Easton stick in there at quarterback.
34:16And off to Carter.
34:17Carter's got some room with that speed.
34:20There's a flag coming in from the secondary.
34:22A good run by Nathan Carter.
34:26Will it stand?
34:29Holding.
34:30Offense number 81.
34:32Ten-yard penalty.
34:34First down.
34:34It will not.
34:36Dylan Drummond's the guilty party.
34:39Negates a 24-yard run by Nathan Carter.
34:42First time he's done something wrong in the first two ballgames.
34:45And it brings back a dynamic run.
34:47And you see Drummond come in here.
34:49And he's right on the cutback.
34:50Got to let him go here.
34:51You see the tug of the jersey.
34:54He did a good job there of getting in front of him.
34:56Just got to maintain it and not let him get away.
34:58So that brings up a topic of conversation that's really big right now for the Falcons.
35:04That wide receiver battle.
35:06That fifth, sixth position potentially as a wide receiver.
35:10Yeah, and they drafted Casey Washington last year, a guy they were really excited about.
35:14Had a really good camp.
35:16Even in the joint practices we saw the other day, Michael Pennix throws in a deep touchdown
35:21by a 67-yard bomb.
35:23And Casey's done really well.
35:24They're excited about it.
35:25He's not playing this ballgame.
35:26He showed you what they like, what they've seen out of him during practice.
35:32Back fence.
35:33And despite, you know, Drummond's mishap there on the holding call, I mean, talking
35:42to Coach Morris, he says he loves what he's doing.
35:45Yes, he had eight catches on eight targets last week, but also his willingness to block.
35:50He did get called for that holding there, but he says he has a bit of that alpha dog mentality.
35:55Second and 12.
35:57And that is dropped by Chris Blair.
35:59That pass was dropped in there almost perfectly by Easton Stiff.
36:04I mean, it's almost like T.J.
36:06H., who's calling the game right now, knows we're talking about receivers because these
36:10are moments that all these receivers are needing right now.
36:12And you see right here, Chris Blair, this is a, oh, he grabbed that right hand of him.
36:17Couldn't get it up.
36:18That's a veteran play right there to grab that right hand so he can't get two hands on it.
36:22But Chris Blair had a really nice touchdown last week on a fade route.
36:26Good job of release.
36:27Had a good route there, just a veteran player, grabs that arm, not allowing him to get two
36:32on it.
36:32But this is a heated battle.
36:34If you get a false start up top, and it looks like number 69, Jack Nielsen.
36:39False start.
36:40Offense.
36:40Number 69.
36:42Five-yard penalty.
36:43Third down.
36:47Got a rookie out of Wisconsin right there.
36:50Two weeks in a row.
36:51Last week, he had a holding penalty.
36:53Got beat for a sack last week.
36:54This week's getting another penalty.
36:55So he's kind of getting acclimated to the National Football League right now.
37:00So there are a lot of guys in their first and second years who get a lot of time in these
37:03first two preseason games to show what they're about.
37:06But we mentioned their receiver spot is going to be one.
37:08We've got to continue to watch over this ball game and to the last.
37:10Now on third and 17, another flag of the secondary.
37:16Could be a free play instead.
37:18Another interception.
37:20This time it's Cedric Gray picking it off.
37:23But let's see if this is going to come back.
37:26We have two flags on the field.
37:38Sarah Thomas looks like she's having a little receiver.
37:42Yeah.
37:42Yeah.
37:42Chad Hill, he may have had something different.
37:52Right now, the Falcons hoping for potentially offsetting penalties.
37:56There are fouls by both teams on the play.
38:05An eligible player downfield.
38:06Offense number 57.
38:08Holding defense number 31.
38:11Those penalties offset.
38:12We will replay the down.
38:14It's third down.
38:15All right, Chuck.
38:21Easton Stick looked so good last week.
38:24He just had his second interception called back.
38:29What are you seeing from him this week that has led to the two picks?
38:33Only one official.
38:34Yeah, it looks like both of them were forced.
38:37I mean, trying to force the football.
38:38In that particular issue, I don't even think he saw him
38:41because the receiver was at least 78 yards behind him.
38:45It's kind of concerning to see where he's going with it.
38:48Last week made so many great decisions.
38:50This week, not so much.
38:53Another third and 17.
38:56This time the pass is caught by Chris Blair.
38:59Nobody held his arms this time, and he can make the catch.
39:01Gets 12 when they need it, 17.
39:04So the punt unit will come on.
39:07Under a little bit more pressure than we saw him last week.
39:10First couple drives, there was some pressure,
39:12but then things really got clean for him in that pocket.
39:14Tonight, he's on the run a bit more.
39:16He's not able to set his feet as much.
39:18But also, Titans are making some great plays.
39:20Cedric Gray did a great job undercutting that ball and intercepted it.
39:24He had a sack earlier in the game.
39:27Pinion on to punt.
39:29Jaquan Jackson back at his 22-yard line.
39:32This will drive him back at the 11.
39:40Beautiful punt, good coverage.
39:43Great play.
39:45That talk about taking on two blockers, Mr. Thompson,
39:49and getting the carrier on the ground.
39:51That's how you turn some heads in camp.
39:5355-yard punt, five-yard return.
39:59A new quarterback is in there for the Tennessee Titans, Brandon Allen, now in at QB.
40:05Cam Ward, it looks like his night is done.
40:07And if so, he was two for seven for 42 yards.
40:13First down, a lot of pressure coming, incomplete pass.
40:17Provide youth sports teams the opportunity to be on the field pre- or post-game,
40:21or simply entertain guests in our all-inclusive club spaces.
40:25Learn more about our grief and hospitality packages.
40:29And the Katie there applying the pressure against Brandon Allen.
40:34Now second down and ten.
40:38What did you guys think from the number one overall pick, Cam Ward?
40:43Kind of similar what we saw, obviously, during the first two joint practices.
40:48You know, we'll show you in there.
40:49We saw the long face.
40:51All right, from one QB one to another.
40:54Let's go down to Jen Hale, who's standing by with Michael Penix, Jr., the guy from Tampa.
40:58The guy from Tampa, indeed, touch, live and in the flesh.
41:02Michael, thanks so much for taking a few minutes with us.
41:05Last year, we got a small sample size of what you can do.
41:08Four touchdowns, 775 yards in just three games.
41:12What does Michael Penix look like now, that this ship is yours,
41:15and that you are the starting quarterback for the entire season?
41:18Yeah, it's a lot of confidence, you know, especially having an offseason with the guys.
41:21You know, being able to have those reps that I wasn't able to have last year,
41:24you know, it brings a lot of confidence and just ready to go.
41:28I bet you are.
41:29Everybody can't wait to see you.
41:31This new Zach Robinson system, what excites you most?
41:33What are you looking forward to the most?
41:35Oh, it's just versatile.
41:36And plus, with the guys that we have on the field, you know, the ball can go up to anybody.
41:40I know all those guys can make a play.
41:41So, obviously, Dijon and Tyler in the backfield, they're going to make big-time plays for us as well.
41:46And we're behind a great offensive line.
41:47So, it's exciting, and I can't wait to see what we do this year.
41:50I can't wait to see all those weapons out on the field.
41:53We'll probably have to wait until the actual regular season for that.
41:56But there is an intense battle for that fifth and sixth wide receiver spot going on right now.
42:01Casey Washington has looked like he's really making headway.
42:04Can you take us inside that competition?
42:06Yeah, I mean, it's been great.
42:07You know, all those guys are good at, you know, different things.
42:11You know, but they all bring great things to this team,
42:14and they've been showing a lot of great things with Casey, Chris Blair, and you also got David Sills.
42:20You know, those guys have been doing a tremendous job all camp, making plays up and down the field each and every day.
42:26So, it's exciting to see each and every day, and I know that whenever one of them is on the field with me,
42:30I have all the confidence in the world with them out there, and it's no beat skill.
42:36That's what matters, that you feel confident.
42:39No Drew Dahlman anymore, new starting center in Ryan Neusel.
42:42Take me inside the relationship between you and him.
42:45Yeah, it's great.
42:46Obviously, the two lefties, you know, we bonded about that.
42:48You know, I've golfed with him before.
42:50He let me use his driver, so it's been good, though.
42:54You know, he's a great communicator.
42:55He's a hard worker, and he loves what he does.
42:57And, you know, obviously, you want that as somebody who's touching the ball before me each and every play.
43:02So, it's been a great relationship, and it's going to continue to build each and every day.
43:07That speaks volumes if he shares his golf clubs with you.
43:09I'm just saying.
43:10Yeah.
43:11All right.
43:11Last week pregame, I had asked you the difference in taking that snap from a left-handed center,
43:16and you had a great demonstration.
43:18Can you walk me through that again?
43:20What's different about Ryan snapping you the ball than right-handed centers?
43:23Yeah, I mean, as far as, you know, getting the ball, like, it's all about reps, you know.
43:27So, last year with Drew at center, righty, you know, most of the time they're coming from –
43:32they're coming at a different angle.
43:34So, they're – obviously, the right-handed snap is coming more –
43:36a little bit more to the left side of the body.
43:39And so, I would catch it sometimes in the palms of my hand.
43:42And with Nuzo, he brings it straight to the – basically, my fingers, like right in the pocket.
43:48So, it's been great.
43:50You know, it's a good snap.
43:51As long as I get the ball, that's all that matters.
43:53And it comes with reps, so I ain't worried about it.
43:56You're going to do amazing things when you get the ball.
43:58We can't wait for that.
43:59Thank you so much for your time very much.
44:01I appreciate it.
44:02Coach, maybe if you're really nice, Ryan News will let you borrow his golf clubs as well.
44:07Yeah, they might be too big for me.
44:09Not going to lie.
44:11We just saw the virtual measurement short of the first down.
44:15And also, it would be tough if Nuzo's a lefty, I'm a righty.
44:19But the way I'm driving the ball right now, maybe I should play lefty.
44:22I don't believe that, man.
44:24I see you play golf.
44:25I think you're going to be the best one.
44:26Third and one coming up here for the Tennessee Titans.
44:31It's catched by the quarterback.
44:33And based on the spot from the far side, it looks like he's right there.
44:37And he just gave the signal for the first down.
44:41I mean, give him the kill, London, number 94.
44:43A lot of credit.
44:44He was right in the middle of it.
44:45He actually hit Brandon Allen when he came off.
44:48And he kind of bounced off of him.
44:50And you can see when he came up.
44:51He thought he had him.
44:52But the second effort from Brandon Allen gets that first down.
44:58Seven minutes to go here in the first half.
45:00Six-nothing.
45:01Tennessee leading Atlanta.
45:03Going to challenge the flag on the field.
45:06Going to challenge the spot of the ball, I would presume.
45:09The read, look, the man, this bad spot.
45:24so this is the interesting part of what we have in football right now
45:35we have an official's timeout for a virtual measurement because the officials were in
45:43the process of asking for the virtual measurement this is not a challenge by atlanta okay so the
45:51virtual measurement doesn't impact the spot the spot is made by the officials right so if the spot
45:58is a bad spot you can then challenge that there is no chip in the ball so it's not going to be placed
46:04by a computer at a certain yardage it's going to be human error human judgment
