The National Security Minister is warning the population to be beware of bachannal, saying that it can destroy governments, but he has not explained why he has decided to issue the statement at this time.

00:06It appeared on Wednesday on his Facebook page without any reference to recent major events
00:11in the ruling party or in the governance of Trinidad and Tobago.
00:15However, there have been scathing criticisms from commentators, the opposition and members
00:20of the public on many issues, not the least being the upsurge in crime for which a state
00:25of emergency was declared, with a focus, according to the government, on criminal gangs and the
00:31increased seizure of illegal guns and ammunition, and more recently, Prime Minister Dr Keith
00:38Rowley's decision to demit office.
00:40On Wednesday, the National Security Minister said on Facebook that Bacchanal saps time,
00:45energy and stirs negative emotions and destroys interpersonal relationships, lifelong friendships,
00:52businesses and business relationships.
00:55Minister Hines also said Bacchanal quote destroys families for generations, it destroyed and
01:01can destroy governments, it is a major impediment to national development and objectives end
01:07quote.
01:08The National Security Minister also said even the religious communities are not immune or
01:12spared and further said the antidotes include the ability to ignore and to sidestep, but
01:18most of all to keep prayerful focus on the goal.
01:22Like Prime Minister Rowley, Minister Hines is not offering himself to be a candidate
01:27for the PNM in the upcoming general election.
01:30Minister Hines is presently the MP for Laventille West.
01:34The Prime Minister has not yet announced the date for the general election, but indicated
01:39that his soon-to-be successor, Minister Stuart Young, may do so.
