A warning from National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hines to quote beware of Bacchanal
00:05
end quote.
00:06
It appeared on Wednesday on his Facebook page without any reference to recent major events
00:11
in the ruling party or in the governance of Trinidad and Tobago.
00:15
However, there have been scathing criticisms from commentators, the opposition and members
00:20
of the public on many issues, not the least being the upsurge in crime for which a state
00:25
of emergency was declared, with a focus, according to the government, on criminal gangs and the
00:31
increased seizure of illegal guns and ammunition, and more recently, Prime Minister Dr Keith
00:38
Rowley's decision to demit office.
00:40
On Wednesday, the National Security Minister said on Facebook that Bacchanal saps time,
00:45
energy and stirs negative emotions and destroys interpersonal relationships, lifelong friendships,
00:52
businesses and business relationships.
00:55
Minister Hines also said Bacchanal quote destroys families for generations, it destroyed and
01:01
can destroy governments, it is a major impediment to national development and objectives end
01:07
quote.
01:08
The National Security Minister also said even the religious communities are not immune or
01:12
spared and further said the antidotes include the ability to ignore and to sidestep, but
01:18
most of all to keep prayerful focus on the goal.
01:22
Like Prime Minister Rowley, Minister Hines is not offering himself to be a candidate
01:27
for the PNM in the upcoming general election.
01:30
Minister Hines is presently the MP for Laventille West.
01:34
The Prime Minister has not yet announced the date for the general election, but indicated
01:39
that his soon-to-be successor, Minister Stuart Young, may do so.
