00:00Hey, what's up guys? Jose here, shreddeddad.com. In today's video, I'm reviewing the Exponent
00:03Edge Calf Blast Bundle. Now this has two pieces. You have a Jacob that turns your rack almost
00:08into a mini Smith machine with a hook. The hook goes on top of the Jacob. Now the barbell isn't
00:13closed. So whenever you're doing standing calf raises, then you have nowhere to go. You can't
00:17lose your balance when you're doing them on a platform. So if I lose my balance on the way
00:21down on a calf raise on a block, this blocks me from going backwards. So a cool idea to turn
00:26regular Jacob's into more of a safer exercise for calf raises. And then of course I can take
00:32this off and then just use it as regular Jacob's. Now the second piece of the puzzle is the flex
00:37wedge. This is the adjustable calf lock slash slant board that I can use for not only calf
00:41locks, but other exercises such as landmine exercises, deficit exercises, knees over toes
00:46guy exercises. So it offers a lot of versatility and that's because of the pins that it has
00:50on the sides here that allows me to angle the foot plate here in eight different positions.
00:56So has lots of versatility, giving this more than just a calf block functionality to it.
01:02So I'm going to start with the calf cups here. The calf cups have two pieces. You have the hook
01:05and then you have your Jacob here. This is just a regular sandwich cup. I'm going to pull it off
01:10and the inside is lined all around with UHNW plastic to protect your rack. I have a five eighth
01:17inch pin here. They have it available also in one inch and it's just a regular sandwich cup.
01:22But what's different about it is that you have holes here on the top and right here on the bottom
01:27of the Jacob. So that's what makes it possible to use the hook here. I can just set it in there,
01:35lock it in place, and I can do my calf raises without worrying about falling backwards. So
01:39keeps it in close. Now I'm going to show you the hook up close. Now the hook here, there's,
01:43there's a metal piece in the center here. And then right around that, you have a side. Both sides
01:48are covered with UHNW plastic. They're bolted on there. So they're not going anywhere. And the cool
01:53thing about this though, is that the UHNW plastic sticks out further than the metal piece. That way,
01:58if you happen to hit your bar, when you're going back against it, then it's not going to scratch
02:03your barbell. It's going to hit the UHNW plastic, set it on there and have a pin here. The pin,
02:09it's mainly there just to lock this in place and prevent it from, from going up in case you happen
02:15to hit the barbell at the top here, it'll prevent it from going up. But this thing is solid, has a
02:20weight capacity of a thousand pounds, and it will just prevent you from going back. And it's so strong
02:24that I can actually hang on to it, yank on it and nothing happens to it. So well built. I like that
02:31they added here about two and a quarter inch space here, just to accommodate for different diameter
02:36barbells. So very, very spacious. You have a lot of space here going up and down. And of course,
02:41you can adjust it according to your height to see that, to make sure that it doesn't hit the top
02:46here. Other than that, I think it's very well built. It's solid. I don't have anything negative
02:50to say about it. I mean, once you're done doing your calf raises, you can just take the hook off
02:55and then you can use this as a regular J-cup. So I'm going to give you a closer look at the flex
02:58switch, show you how it works and all the different features, what I like and don't like. So this
03:02thing is about 33 pounds, very heavy piece of material for a cap lock. You have handles here
03:08on the side, pick it up, made of solid steel, has a weight capacity of a thousand pounds. And just like
03:14every exponent inch product, they're made to last a lifetime. It's heavy duty steel. It's not cheap.
03:19Now, the way this works is by using the pins here. You have a pin on each side. So I'm going to pull
03:23out the pin on this side. That's what it looks like. You have a cord here. I would have liked to seen
03:27a metal lanyard, kind of like the calf cubs. I think that would be more durable than this.
03:31If I pull this out here, you're going to see there's holes here. There's a hole here on the
03:36footplate and that's where the pin goes into when I insert it like this. So this here is a
03:41prototype. This has not as many angles as the final product. The final product is going to have
03:46eight different positions. So you're going to have a flat one or parallel to the floor. Then you're
03:50going to have six different angles and 10 degree increments. And then you're going to have the option
03:55to just lay it all the way to the bottom without the pins so that you can have a slant board. So eight
04:00different positions. Now I like that this is versatile because I can do more than just calf
04:05raises with this. I can use it for goblet squats. I can use it for landmine exercises. Matter of fact,
04:11one of my favorite exercises to do is a landmine row with this because the platform lifts me up so that
04:17the weight plates aren't hitting the floor on the bottom of the exercise. So now I'll give you my pros
04:21and cons. I'll start with what I don't like. I don't like the cord that they're using on the flex wedge
04:25just because I feel they could have used something like what they're already using on the calf cup
04:29here. This is a metal lanyard compared to the spring-like cord that they're using on the flex
04:34wedge that can stretch over time or even snap. So this is going to be more durable. So that should
04:38be something easy that they could include also on the flex wedge. Now, as far as what I like about the
04:45whole bundle is I like the versatility and also the quality of the materials. Any exponent edge product
04:50that I've used is of high quality, very well built, solid, and will last a long time, maybe a lifetime.
04:56With a calf lock, you usually do it for calf races. That's it. There's nothing else you can do with a
05:00calf lock. With the flex wedge, you can use it as a calf lock. You can use it as a platform for landmine
05:05exercises, platform for deficit exercises, and then you have the adjustable slant board for a variety of
05:10different exercises, especially if you follow the knees over toes program. So lots of versatility on the
05:15flex wedge. Then you come to the calf cubs here. The calf cubs, just like regular j-cubs, you can use them for
05:20any barbell exercise, and then you have this added to them where you have the safety of doing barbell
05:27calf races without having to worry about falling back so you can focus on the exercise. So that's
05:31it. That's my review on the exponent edge calf blast. I feel it offers a lot of versatility.
