00:00Most cable attachments are basically the same thing
00:02with different grips, but this one over here
00:03looks like somebody turned an open trap bar
00:06into a cable attachment for functional trainers.
00:08And I gotta tell you, after using it for a little bit,
00:10I can tell you that this thing has a lot of versatility,
00:13more than I thought I'd be able to get out of it.
00:16And at the same time, it provides full range of motion
00:19with the open center design.
00:20I can do lots of variations of rows,
00:22I can do shrugs, presses, pulls, a lot of different things,
00:26but there is one downside to it,
00:28and I'm gonna show you right now,
00:29in this video.
00:30The open center design is what makes this cable attachment
00:32different from others out there.
00:34From the inside edge here, to the inside edge over here,
00:36there's 19 inches in between.
00:38So this makes it like an open trap bar
00:40where I can step into it like this,
00:41and then I have neutral grip exercises that I can do,
00:44such as shoulder shrugs, I can do dibs,
00:46I can do lat pull downs with a neutral grip,
00:48I can do rows, several variations of rows.
00:51So not only does it allow me to step into it
00:53and have more leverage, but then also when it comes
00:55to row variations, I can grab it and pull further back,
00:59then with a regular cable attachment,
01:00not having to worry about hitting my chest with the bar,
01:03or the back of a bench with a bar.
01:04So this gives me more range of motion,
01:06and also opens it up for a lot more exercises
01:09than any other cable attachment I've used.
01:11Now I'm gonna talk to you about the different grip options.
01:13So there's a narrow grip option, neutral grip option,
01:15and then a wide grip option.
01:17The narrow grip is what I use mainly for triceps extensions,
01:20so if I'm doing the triceps extensions,
01:22that's what I'm going with.
01:23The neutral grip is the one I would say I use the most.
01:25I use that for bicep curls, RDLs, dips, shrugs,
01:30shoulder presses, lat pull downs,
01:31a lot of different exercises with this one.
01:33And then the wide grip is the one that I use mainly for rows,
01:36just because when I'm using it this way,
01:38I have the open center here,
01:39so that I can get more range of motion
01:41whenever I'm pulling back.
01:43Now, as far as the knurling goes,
01:45this is a mild to medium knurling.
01:47I don't feel like it slips at all,
01:48so even if you like something that's more aggressive,
01:51this is not gonna slip off your hands.
01:53Now, the diameter is kind of thin.
01:54It's a 25 millimeter or one inch diameter, so it's narrow.
01:58Andrione does throw in four of these grips,
02:00so you can just toss them around the bar.
02:02If you like something that's a thicker grip,
02:04you have that option.
02:05But as far as the grips go,
02:07I feel you get a lot of versatility from the grip options.
02:09For me personally, I use mainly the neutral grip
02:12for a lot of variety of different exercises,
02:14and then the wider grip,
02:16so that I can do some of those row exercises
02:18without hitting my chest or the back of the bench.
02:21One thing I really like about the Andrione bar
02:22is the dual swivel end that allows it to spin
02:25360 degrees in both directions.
02:27That allows me to do exercises smoothly.
02:30There's no jerkiness to it,
02:31and it also reduces a lot of joint strain.
02:33For me, I'm 47 years old.
02:35I'm always looking for exercises that don't cause injuries.
02:38So this one over here,
02:39this reduces a lot of torque on my wrists.
02:42The neutral grip is one I use a lot
02:43because that reduces a lot of tension on my elbows.
02:46So I like that it does that for older guys like me,
02:49where I can use the bar without creating any new injuries.
02:52Now, at the same time,
02:53the swivel does create more instability,
02:55and that's something that I found for presses
02:58that I had to get used to initially.
03:00So initially, for example,
03:01if I was doing something like a dip like this,
03:03on the way down, when I pressed,
03:05I would find myself doing a lot of this because of the swivel.
03:08But as I got more used to it,
03:10then I can press down and control it better.
03:15It's just a matter of your nervous system adapting to it.
03:18Same for presses.
03:19If I'm doing like a shoulder press,
03:21and on the way up, I would find myself doing a lot of this.
03:24And again, that's just something that you have to repeat,
03:27and over time, you start getting better at it.
03:29But just be aware that because of that free motion,
03:32that freedom that this has,
03:33it also creates a lot of instability
03:35that eventually you'll get used to.
03:37I don't have a problem
03:38whenever I'm doing pulling exercises.
03:39Pulling exercises feel really good.
03:41It's just when you're pressing away from your body,
03:44whether that's up or down,
03:45that you feel more instability,
03:47and your body will eventually adapt to it.
03:49Now, the website does mention
03:50that you can use this attachment for leg exercises,
03:53but I'd say that's a little bit of a far stretch.
03:55I think this is more of an upper body cable attachment,
03:58just because imagine trying to do a squat,
04:01starting from the bottom position
04:03with a lot of weight on top of your neck here.
04:05So it'll look something like this,
04:07where I'm starting like this,
04:08but at the bottom of the cable machine
04:10with a lot of weight on,
04:11trying to get up from the bottom position
04:13so that I get enough resistance and full range of motion,
04:17it's gonna be difficult.
04:18And then at the end of the set,
04:19you're gonna have to do the same thing.
04:20You're gonna have to get really low
04:22in order to get this off your body.
04:24So I think it's better off for a lower body,
04:26something like a squat or lunges
04:28to use a barbell or dumbbells.
04:30I have used this for RDLs and deadlifts,
04:33and it does feel good,
04:34but for anything that's gonna go on my shoulders,
04:36I would prefer to use a barbell.
04:38Now this is selling for 218 bucks,
04:39and I think it's a fair price
04:41just because there's nothing else like it on the market.
04:44No other cable attachment does what this does
04:46that has that open center design.
04:48And this alone will give you a lot of versatility.
04:51So this can replace
04:52a lot of different cable attachments.
04:54So not only are you getting more
04:55from one cable attachment,
04:57so there's a lot of value here,
04:58but you're also reducing clutter in your home gym.
05:00So instead of storing 10 different cable attachments,
05:03you only have to store one.
05:04So it reduces all that clutter.
05:06So if you wanna save a little bit more,
05:08I'll leave a coupon code
05:09in the description of the video here,
05:11so you can check it out.
05:12That will give you 10% off the $218.
05:15Now I'll give you my pros and cons,
05:16and I'll start with the one con that I have,
05:18and that is that this can feel unstable
05:20when you're doing heavy presses,
05:21whether you're pressing up like a shoulder press
05:24or pressing down like a dip,
05:25you're gonna have to develop some stability.
05:28It kind of reminds me of
05:29when I first started using gymnastics rings
05:31where there's a lot of instability.
05:33The more I used them, the more stability
05:35my nervous system started to build.
05:37Similar with this, with heavy presses,
05:39as I push up, my wrists start doing this
05:42because of the swivel end.
05:44So there's gonna be some instability,
05:45just giving you a heads up.
05:47Now on the flip side,
05:48that same swivel design is what gives it a smooth motion,
05:51so it reduces torque on my joints.
05:53So that is a pro for me.
05:55There's no joint pain when I'm using this,
05:57so because of that swivel, my joints feel really good.
06:01I don't feel like there's torque on my wrists
06:03or pain on my elbow, so that's a pro.
06:05Another pro for me is that this has different grip options.
06:08I can grip it close grip, wide grip, neutral grip,
06:12so I have a lot of variation as far as exercises go.
06:15Another pro for me would be the open design here.
06:19It's almost like an open trap bar,
06:20and that gives me a lot of versatility
06:22where I can put my body in between the bar.
06:25So now I can do shrugs with it,
06:26I can do neutral grip shoulder presses,
06:28I can do neutral grip lat pulldowns,
06:31and also for rows, any row variation
06:33where I'm pulling this open end here
06:36is not gonna hit the back of a bench,
06:38so I get full range of motion.
06:39I can bring my elbows further back.
06:41So those are my pros and my cons.
06:44More pros than the cons,
06:45and as far as the con goes,
06:46that instability over time,
06:48I felt that I do get better at it,
06:50but expect that from the beginning
06:52until you start getting used to it.
