00:00Most of the cable roll setups for home gyms suck. You're either on the floor or uncomfortable.
00:03You don't have a foot plate so you can't get enough leverage and you're just going to slide.
00:08And if you do have a makeshift foot plate, it's probably not going to be long enough for you to
00:12create enough space to have plenty of range of motion at the end of each rep. And that is where
00:17the PRX Performance lower attachment comes in. I attach it to my rack, pull up my bench so it gets
00:23me off the floor, creates plenty of space here so I get plenty of range of motion at the end
00:27of
00:27each rep and I'm not going to slide anywhere. So it solves all those problems. So in this video,
00:32I'm going to show you how to use it. I'm going to show you what I like about it, what
00:35I don't like
00:35about it, and whether it's great for the home gym or just an overhyped product. Now I'm going to give
00:39you a closer look at the foot plate and just talk to you about some of the features and specs.
00:43So
00:43they're using heavy duty grip tape here at the front. It keeps my feet from sliding. I personally
00:48like that a lot because whenever I use this as a slant board, when I flip it around and angle
00:54it,
00:54I like to use it for calf raises and it keeps my feet anchored there. So the grip tape is
00:59actually
00:59really good. This thing here is powder coated and black. It's thick steel. I believe it's 11
01:04gauge steel. The whole attachment is 30 pounds. So it's not something that's just very light. It's
01:09definitely heavy duty. And then on the front here, there's an opening there. So if you have a low
01:14cable set up, it's not going to be hitting the foot plate. Now on the top here, they added UHMW
01:18plastic. And the whole reason for this is so that I can set my attachment down there whenever I'm done
01:23with my set. So it just keeps it on the foot plate. I'm going to take you to the back
01:27here behind the
01:28foot plate. You see there's a sundial there that has 12 different settings. So it just gives me the
01:31ability to use this for more than just seated cable rows. I like to use this attachment for calf raises
01:37and also for step ups. So it's adjustable in 12 different angles. And you can see they're using a
01:42half inch Mac pin, which they include by the way. Now the tube here, this tube here sticks out 14
01:48inches.
01:49So that's going to give me plenty of space to get full range of motion at the end of each
01:53rep.
01:54So I keep tension throughout the whole exercise. And then they added a handle here. Is that necessary?
01:59I wouldn't say it is, but it makes it easier to carry because like I said, this thing is 30
02:04pounds.
02:04So it's not very light for what it is. And then over here, this is going to fit three by
02:09three racks
02:09with five eighths of an inch holes. They include two Mac pins. These holes, by the way, are four inches
02:15apart on center. My rack is six inches apart on center. So I have one here and one here,
02:20but all I really need is the top one. I don't even need to use this one because the weight
02:25of the
02:25metal is going to keep it in place. Plus whenever I'm being pulled, I'm pushing in that direction.
02:30So that's not going to move anywhere. So those are the basic specs, basic features. Now I'm going
02:35to show you how I set this up. All right. So I'm going to show you how to set this
02:38up. It's
02:38self-explanatory, but I'm just going to walk you through different setups that I like to use
02:42for different exercises. So the first one I'm going to show you is just for step-ups. So
02:46I'm going to attach this to the rack with the Mac pin. And now with the flat position here,
02:52I can use this for step-ups. Now, just a note though, my rack is wall mounted, so it's not
02:57going to go anywhere. And if you have a bolted rack, that's good too. But if you don't have anything
03:02that's anchoring down your rack, what you want to do if you want to try this exercise is you want
03:06to
03:06move this to the inside of the rack. That way it's not going to tilt over whenever you're putting
03:10weight on the outside of the rack. So from here, I can use dumbbells. I can use my body weight.
03:15I
03:15can connect the cable machine to a squat harness to do the step-ups. Now there is a little bit
03:19of
03:19a tilt here just because this is adjustable, but it's not going to be enough to throw me off during
03:23the exercise. Step up, step down. And that's pretty much, that's all there is to it. Now, if I want
03:29to
03:29go from here to a seated cable row, I'm just going to pull out the pin from the sundial and
03:34I can
03:34adjust the different angles. I'm going to set this right there. And now from here, I can do my seated
03:44cable rows. I just have to add my cable attachment to the machine, set it down here, and now I
03:49can do
03:50my seated cable rows. Now, this is angled. If you notice, it's angled, so it's going to be perfect
03:55for when I pull up my bench here. It gets me off the floor. This 14-inch tube here is
04:00going to create
04:00a lot of space so I can get plenty of range of motion at the end of each rep. So
04:04grab the cable
04:06attachment and then from here, I get a good stretch here. You see, I'm past my toes here. So I
04:14get a
04:14good stretch and it feels really good. You can see the foot plate stays stable. It doesn't move around.
04:24So it feels really good. Now from here, the other exercise I use for this, and of course, you can
04:30get creative with this and come up with different exercises if you want to, but I only use it for
04:35three. For this exercise, the next one up is standing calf raise. So what I do is I flip this
04:42upside down
04:47and now I'm going to change the angle here of the foot plate
04:55to that. Now the foot plate here is anchored here to the upright and then it's touching the floor
05:00here, so it's not going to move anywhere. So from here, I can do my calf raises
05:07and the grip tape here comes in really handy because if you increase the angle here, my foot's not going
05:12to be slipping off. So these feel really good with dumbbells, body weight, or using the squat harness.
05:19So that's pretty much all I use it for. It adds a little bit more versatility to the attachment so
05:24that I can do more exercises instead of just doing seated cable rows. I'm sure you can come up with
05:29more, but that is just how I set it up for all these different exercises. So what's the price on
05:34this
05:34attachment? Well, it's $299. It's not cheap, but at the same time, I'm not surprised just because it's a
05:39PRX product. They're built to last, made in the USA, and they're using high quality materials that
05:44are going to last you a lifetime. I've had this PRX rack here for seven years. It still looks brand
05:48new and I use it every single week. So I know their products are built to last. Now, how does
05:53this
05:53compare to other competitors out there that are in the same ballpark, same quality? Well, you have
05:58Dialed Motion. Their low row foot plate attachment is $259, so well over $200. And then you have the
06:04Prime Prodigy attachment that's $225. So if you're looking for a quality low row foot plate attachment,
06:10you're going to be expected to pay over $200. So with this one here, it's on the high end $299,
06:15but it falls within that range that all the other competitors have. So now I'll give you my present
06:20cons. I'll start with the one con that I have, and that is that this is a $299 investment. So
06:25it's on
06:25the high end when it comes to these attachments. But if you're looking for something similar to this,
06:30you're going to be paying over $200 no matter what. So this one just happens to be at $299 on
06:36the high end, but it is one of the best out there. Now the pros outweigh the cons. For me,
06:42the problem that it solves is real in the home gym where it gets me off the floor. It creates
06:46enough space here so that I can get full range of motion. And I don't have to deal with a
06:51makeshift
06:52foot plate like I've been doing before where I use sandbags. I've used a step-up platform just to
06:57keep my feet planted so that I can create enough leverage and prevent my body from slipping. So
07:03it does solve a problem. So it has that going forward. It gets you off the floor. It gives you
07:07enough space here so that you have plenty of range of motion. And then this is adjustable so I can
07:12use
07:12it for more than just one exercise. I use it for standing calf raises, step-ups, and seated cable
07:17rows. And it's adjustable to whatever position feels good for you. And also it's a small attachment.
07:23So when I'm done, I just put it on the wall and atop my floor, I'm still using the same
07:28equipment
07:29I already have. This just gives me more versatility to play around with the pieces that I already own.
07:34So those are my pros. I think they definitely outweigh the cons and it solves a real problem
07:39in the home gym. That's my review on the PRX Performance Low Row Foot Plate Attachment. If you
