"Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."
- Psalm 139:23-24
No wonder the Olde Time Strongmen did need nor regularly perform Side Bends! Side Presses, as done back in the day, are like a Press combined with a Side Bend. The heels are no more than 12" apart, and the legs stay locked straight. These requirements require a strong contraction of the side bending and twisting muscles of the Spine. As you'll see on my last lift with 77lb(35kg) that l can bend quite low to get the arm locked straight. It's ALMOST a straight leg Bent Press except the arm isn't rested on the body until you can lock the arm out. You actively Press the weight from start to finish. Are my QLs, Obliques, Lower Lats and Glute Medius all worked AND stretched out?? You bet they are. God Bless.
