00:00Alright, I've got some good news. The battle over the SoCo Warrior's name may soon see a resolution.
00:17Well, that's because Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Senator David Nackett,
00:21today hosted a crucial meeting between the TTFE and Selwell Melvin, the man who trademarked the beloved SoCo Warrior name.
00:28Well, the meeting which was reported as cordial, so Melville arriving with legal representation and his wife,
00:35while the TTFE represented by Colin Murray, maintained their position for a buyout of the name.
00:41Melville has promised a counter-proposal by Monday.
00:45The name SoCo Warriors has symbolized Trinidad and Tobago's national football team for over two decades,
00:50including the iconic 2006 World Cup campaign.
00:54Nackett warned that replacing the name would erase a national legacy.
00:59He's urging both sides to compromise in the interest of sport, culture and country.
01:05We're very thankful for Mr. Nackett in the Ministry of Sports to bring us here today for this discussion.
01:13It had been a very cordial conversation, and we are now in principle in the process of trying to find a way to solve this problem
01:22and ensure that the public would not be angry and every public remains a SoCo Warrior.
01:30On behalf of the TTFE, I would also like to say it was a very cordial meeting.
01:34Thanks again to Mr. Nackett for arranging the meeting, because I think before this we were miles and miles apart.
01:43I think we've come a little bit closer in terms of solving this issue.
