00:00Anyone can be a target at any time. People are living in fear and that fear affects people emotionally, mentally and sometimes physically.
00:09That's according to Vivek Charan, Chairman of the Confederation of Regional Business Chambers.
00:15He asked the question, who is really safe in TNT as violence seems to be the motto for all criminals?
00:22We see this violence happening in home invasions. It is one of the key characteristics of a home invasion.
00:29It always includes violence towards male members of the family.
00:33We see this violence as happening with regard to armed burglaries, armed robberies I should say.
00:40In addition to robbing somebody, robbing somebody of their possessions, of the things they have worked for,
00:46that it is also almost an invitation for them to visit violence upon the people.
00:52Vice Chairman of the Confederation of Regional Business Chambers, Ricardo Mohamed said,
00:57he is a bit worried about the way police handle crime in this country.
01:01You hear things like 18%, 20%, 22% and that they have made progress from, I don't know, 18% to 25%.
01:12Really and truly, we cannot expect that to be numbers or percentages that we as a public have to accept.
01:21You go to school and you make 20% in a subject. It's a failing grade.
01:26So right now the TTPS, when they come outside and they say we have made improvements
01:32and we are now doing 20 something percent or 30% in solving crimes or getting convictions,
01:39is that really an achievement?
01:41And on the issue of extortion, which has grown into a multi-million dollar criminal enterprise for criminals,
01:47Mr. Charon advises his fellow business colleagues to develop a strong relationship with police officers in their area,
01:53as it is one way of minimizing the risk of extortion or demanding of money.
01:58If you are a victim of extortion, it is extremely important at first instance to contact the police.
02:04Very, very important.
02:06The second thing is never pay anything. Never agree to meet anybody.
02:10Never, you know, if somebody says, well, you know, you need to meet us, so and so,
02:14we will discuss it or whatever. You never do anything like that.
02:17First thing you need to do is call the police and let them know what is happening.
