A parent's worst nightmare came true in Valencia on Thursday morning, when search teams made a gruesome discovery, the body of a young woman stuffed into a suitcase and dumped in a shallow pond.

00:00Although police have not yet officially confirmed their identity, the family of 22-year-old Candice
00:05Honoré fears the worst.
00:07Candice had last been seen on July 8th and reported missing three days later.
00:12It was just after sunrise on Thursday when a black suitcase out of place in half submerging
00:18a pond along Oropuch Road in Valencia caught the attention of the hunters search and rescue
00:23team.
00:24Inside, human remains wrapped in plastic and believed to be those of the missing 22-year-old.
00:30We started this morning at 6 a.m. and at around 6.30 a.m. this morning, right behind me, we
00:40saw, we spotted a pretty large black suitcase lying in a shallow pond about 15 feet from
00:47the edge of the roadway.
00:49To us, it looked very suspicious that it stood out and it looked suspicious.
00:55Rambarat says the team immediately contacted the police, who asked them to retrieve the
01:01suitcase.
01:02We opened the suitcase, we unzipped the suitcase, we lifted the cover and we stepped back.
01:08But from our observation, what we saw was black and clear plastic bags inside.
01:15The officers approached and they shortly thereafter indicated to me that what they had observed
01:23was a human hand.
01:25Candice's family has been clinging to hope since she disappeared.
01:29But her father, Michael Honoré, says while the official identification is still to come,
01:35the discovery matches the fears that he's been dreading.
01:38This morning, they discovered a package and a little pond, a little further away from where
01:44we are presently, which they describe as a suitcase.
01:48And well, since the Tuesday before, my daughter was missing Candice.
01:56And we was on certain leads according to info until it bring me to that point this morning,
02:01search and rescue.
02:02We found the package and we ain't got no official confirmation as to is Candice or not.
02:09We just are waiting forensic.
02:11Clearly emotional, he reflected on the distance between himself and his daughter in recent years
02:17and warned other parents to pay close attention to their children, especially in an age of social media.
02:24I just want to tell all parents, follow up on all the children, especially female boys as well,
02:29because all they don't know what's going on. They can never know all what's going on, right?
02:34Because you see this thing we have in our hands and touching and securing,
02:38we phone, the internet, this is what's in me right now.
02:42He warned that parents should advise children about the dangers of social media and the internet
02:48and who they interact with online.
02:51The hunters search and rescue team says they acted on multiple tips and coordinated information
02:58to narrow their search to this area.
03:00For now, the body remains at the Forensic Science Center,
03:04where pathologists are expected to conduct DNA testing to confirm their identity.
03:09Police from the Homicide Bureau and the Crime Scene Unit
03:12continue their investigation into what is now being treated as a murder.
