00:00Age is just a number is a phrase often used.
00:03Such can apply to 75-year-old Richard Hort, who has a record 13 National Open Men's Squash
00:10titles.
00:11He is now preparing to defend his over 50 title at the National Championships starting
00:16Tuesday at the QPCC Racket Centre.
00:18You are never ready for a tournament, all you can do is prepare as much as you can.
00:24Normally you do training off the court.
00:27I haven't been doing any training but I have been playing a lot of squash and hopefully
00:33I would be ready for the game that is coming up just now.
00:37What sort of boot do you put in?
00:39A lot of running on the squash court.
00:43It's a very anaerobic game, very quick, you need a lot of fast boosts of speed and energy
00:52too.
00:53While he may have a plethora of trophies in his cabinet, Hort is taking nothing for
00:58granted.
00:59After all, he has a lot of respect for his opponents.
01:02In the National Championships I won when I was a lot younger, but there is another gentleman
01:09also who is equally as good, probably has the edge, which is John Hawley.
01:16He has beaten me more times than I have beaten him.
01:19So hopefully it will be interesting if we both meet again somewhere in the tournament or perhaps
01:27at the finals.
01:29It's no secret that Hort has a penchant for the sport of squash, but what is it that actually
01:34keeps him going?
01:35Hort expects the overall tournament to be of a high standard and hopes that the public comes
01:46out to support the action which runs until June 7th.
