00:00He's just 8 years of age and he made Trinidad and Tobago proud at the recently concluded
00:04CSE Youth Chess Festival in El Salvador.
00:07He's none other than Ty Humphrey who's elated following the outcome.
00:11I am very pleased to win the silver medal at CSE.
00:16Some of my opponents were really tough and the highest rated player was 6,100 and I managed
00:24to win but it motivated me to train harder for the gold next year.
00:33Success does not come without hard work and it's something Humphrey has gotten a taste
00:38of at such a tender age.
00:40I put in a lot of work before and during the tournament and a team of coaches that were
00:46prepping me.
00:47I did three hours of training every day before the tournament.
00:54Ty is a child one can refer to as an all-rounder.
00:57Besides chess, he has to find ways to make time for schoolwork and other activities.
01:02I am home schooled so chess is part of my schoolwork and I also do my training on afternoons
01:13as well as my music, swimming and karate.
01:18Locally, Humphrey plays with Central Vikings Chess Club where he's grateful for the support
01:23he gets from head coach Sadiqa Razak.
01:25Sadiqa is really supportive.
01:28She calls me before every round to give me a pep talk.
01:34It's nice to have a club that's like a family to me.
01:38Young Humphrey has a desire to become world champion one day which is why he gives it
01:43his all when practising or playing.
