00:00There has been a report of an attempted arson at the home of an officer who was involved in a recent fatal shooting in Mount St. George.
00:11Let me just take this opportunity to outrightly condemn that action and to say that that type of vigilante action will not be tolerated in Tobago.
00:20This arson attack comes in the wake of last Friday's shooting death of 74-year-old Frank Sandy.
00:27Officer Eli said this action by persons is not the way to go.
00:33Against anyone, more so against a member of the Protective Services.
00:39So I'm just letting those persons who are hell-bent on disrupting this food flow of things to allow a free and fair investigation to continue.
00:49This investigation is ongoing.
00:51Mr Eli said vigilante justice would not be tolerated.
00:56The police, we are doing everything that we can do to expedite this investigation and we are in contact with the family and giving them all the assistance that we can at this time.
01:06Again, I'm saying this type of vigilante justice will not, and I'm saying again, will not be tolerated in Tobago.
01:14According to the officer, around the 5 a.m., he was at his home in Mount St. George when he was awoken by the sound of his dogs barking.
01:23He observed a man attempting to enter his home.
01:26The intruder is reported to have attacked the officer with an object in his hand.
01:31The officer admitted to shooting the man who turned out to be his neighbor.
01:36Eli said Assistant Superintendent Job has been appointed to investigate this incident and officers of the TTPS Victims and Witness Support Unit have been assigned to assist both families.
01:51Investigations are continuing.
