00:00Cannock Secretary General Brian Lewis was pleased with the way the TTOC elections were conducted which resulted in Diane Henderson coming out victorious. Henderson got 25 votes to retain her position while Lewis received 10 and former athlete Sheridan Kirk picked up two.
00:15The TTOC allowed itself via its annual general meeting to undergo a transparent and honest governance self-evaluation and that is an example a number of the member affiliates should follow.
00:38Lewis says some people were perplexed as to why he was challenging a female but he says by having a contested election it gives enhanced legitimacy to the leadership.
00:48While the first time around Diane would have been unopposed I believe that this time around where she had there was three candidates offering themselves up the fact that she prevailed is to her credit and to her legitimacy as a leader a sports leader.
01:13Lewis says it was refreshing that Kirk also went up for elections. He sees it as history in the making as no Olympian did such a thing before.
01:22It was brave on his part and I am particularly happy to see a two-time Olympian showing in this case his hat in the ring to a contest for the TTOC presidency.
01:37I sincerely believe it augurs well for the future and you know it is important that the TTOC continues to lead by example.
01:48Lewis, who is the TTOC immediate past president, will remain on the executive and plans to give full support to Henderson during her second term.
