Tobagonians can look forward to the best leadership under the Tobago People's Party (TPP). This from political leader of the party Farley Augustine as he spoke with TV6'S Elizabeth Williams, following the TPP announcing the opening of the nomination process, for the upcoming THA election. More in this report.
00:00It is at this time that the party has flung open its doors, its arms, and it's open to nominations from our respective communities as we seek to provide Tobago with the best leadership in the next four years.
00:20TPP political leader Fali Augustin told the TV6 News no election date has been sent to Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Bissessa just yet.
00:30And while an election date is not yet announced or even decided upon, and I have not advised the Prime Minister of a date as yet in keeping with the law, prospective candidates and communities are encouraged to have the expectations guided by the provisions of the law.
00:52Mr. Augustin said expect a fair screening process.
00:56This process will actually give action groups and communities the opportunity to assess the performance of their current representatives and to help determine whether such individuals are worthy of renomination.
01:13We may even see some current members choosing to not return to public office, but that will be a choice to be made by the 13 members that we have currently of the Tobago House of Assembly.
01:29The TPP would be contesting all 15 seats for the upcoming Tobago House of Assembly election.
01:36According to the party, all nominations must be submitted electronically between 11.59 p.m. on Sunday, 5th October, and 11.59 p.m. on Friday, October 17th.
01:49Interested persons must be members of the Tobago People's Party to be considered for the screening process.
01:55The current term of the THA began on December 9th, Section 22 of the THA Act 40 of 1996 states,
02:04The Assembly shall continue for four years from the date of its first sitting after any primary election and shall then stand dissolved unless the Assembly by resolution dissolves itself at an earlier date.
02:19The President, after consultation with the Prime Minister and the Chief Secretary, sets the date of a THA election,
