00:00September 18th, 2025 will go down in history as a special day for the Twin Island country.
00:07That's because Keyshawn Walcott grabbed gold in the javelin throw
00:10and Jareem Richards earned silver in the 400-meter race.
00:15Both results have made Canuck Secretary General Brian Lewis a proud man.
00:19Our sportsmen and sportswomen always come true when the country needs a boost of positivity
00:28and inspiration and motivation.
00:31And once again, Keyshawn Walcott and Jareem Richards and the sport of track and field have provided that.
00:41I continue to maintain over the years, track and field is the number one Olympic sport in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:49Walcott is a two-time Olympic medalist, with this being his first gold at the World Athletics Championships
00:55following a throw of 88.16 meters.
00:57It has come 13 years after his victory in London in 2012.
01:03According to Lewis, the 32-year-old proved to the world that he should not be written off.
01:08I sincerely believe that the people of Trinidad and Tobago underestimate the tremendous
01:18confidence and unwavering courage, determination, and dedication of Keyshawn Walcott.
01:26Despite all that have happened, he remained unwavering in his faith and confidence in himself.
01:41He has never given up.
01:42And I'm really happy for him and his family and his team.
01:47Regarding Richards, he earned silver in 43.72 seconds.
01:53As such, Lewis has also lauded the 31-year-old for continuing to put TNT on the map.
01:58Jureem continues to be consistent.
02:02You know, he's in a good program in the States.
02:07He's a very disciplined and determined young man.
02:12And he remains consistent.
02:15And, you know, he's someone we have to be proud about, not just from the perspective of Trinidad
02:25and Tobago, but the Caribbean.
02:27Richards now has a medal of all three colors at the World Athletics Championships.
02:32He earned gold in the 4x400 relays and a bronze in the 200 meters, both in London in 2017.
02:40And, you know, now on the Chiefs Expoort.
