18 October - National weather forecast presented by Kathryn Chalk.
Transcript
00:00Hello, well after what's been a largely dry but drab week, we have got outbreaks of rain
00:06to end the weekend. So we lose the area of high pressure, that shifts its way eastwards
00:11and it's going to be replaced by this area of low pressure through Sunday and into the new
00:16working week. So expect heavier spells of rain, also some blustery showers as we head into Monday
00:23and into Tuesday. But back to the rest of this evening, we hold them to the driest conditions
00:28across the east of the UK. But towards the west, outbreaks of rain already moving through. The
00:34heaviest and most persistent rain will come into Northern Ireland and here we do have a yellow
00:39rain warning in force so we could see some local disruption and also some flooding. That rain will
00:44also edge into southern parts of Scotland, northern England and the far southwest of England. But
00:50otherwise to the southeast holding on to a lot of cloud but largely dry here. With the winds though
00:57and the outbreaks of rain and cloud it is going to be a largely mild night. Temperatures holding up
01:02at around 9 to 13 degrees. So a brightish start across the far southeast but that will soon be replaced
01:11by outbreaks of rain as we head into the afternoon. So this band of heavy rain will continue to move its
01:17way north and eastwards. So for all of us to end Sunday, it's a pretty grotty and unsettled picture
01:23out there with strengthening winds too. However, across the far southwest of Devon and Cornwall and into
01:30Northern Ireland, it should turn a little bit brighter as we end the day with some showers too.
01:36But otherwise the winds will be picking up as well. We could see coastal gales in places but also temperatures
01:42around 15 or 16 degrees. But the humidity might just be that little bit higher. So as we go through
01:49Sunday evening and into Monday, this band of rain continues to move its way north and eastwards.
01:55And then behind that again some strong winds but also followed in by some blustery showers to start
02:02Monday morning. So still a rather mild start to the day. Temperatures around 8 to 12 degrees to start
02:09Monday. So that band of rain will continue to move its way across Orkney and Shetland but otherwise
02:16this area of low pressure will rattle through some showers. Heaviest with the most chance of thunder
02:22and lightning across much of Wales and the southern part of England. But otherwise some drier spells
02:28across Scotland but always the strongest winds focused along that southern coast. Otherwise temperatures
02:35are still going to be rather around average but probably feeling unpleasant when you catch one of
02:40those heavy downpours where we'll see some very gusty winds. So an unsettled picture to start the new
02:47working week. But make sure to hit subscribe so you don't miss any updates on that. And I'll see you soon. Bye bye.
