00:00Around 2 p.m. on Thursday, police officers were called to Senon Village
00:05number 3 in Siparia where a small cooler rested roadside with a
00:10decapitated head inside it. Investigators believe it was severed
00:15less than 48 hours before being discovered and is believed to belong to
00:2159-year-old Joanne Estik, a mother of one and grandmother of three who lived in
00:26Ritoville, Siparia. She was last seen alive on Wednesday around midday. While
00:32relatives described Estik as a drug user, they say she was a very nice person who
00:38wouldn't harm anyone.
00:56Up to late evening on Thursday, police officers combed the area in search of
01:06the victim's body. On Friday, members of the hunters search and rescue team led
01:11by Valence Rambrath volunteered their time to assist with the search.
01:26Rambrath says over recent months there has been a rise in
01:36gruesome acts like this one and recommended the state pay closer
01:41attention to the migration of criminals to our shores.
01:56I think crime is transnational and in the UK they taking stance against
02:04transnational crime and immigrant crime and the UK doing the same thing and I
02:09think that has to be addressed in Trinidad and Tobago. Meanwhile,
02:13Southwestern Division police say they are exploring a drug link to the murder
02:18responding to speculation that a serial killer may be roaming the Siparia area
02:24since a man was found with his legs severed nearby three months ago who was
02:29also a drug addict. A senior police officer says they do not believe it is
02:34the act of a serial killer. However, they are looking at the similarities in the
02:38cases and are exploring any possible connection among other leads. Searches
02:45for the body and proper identification of the head are still underway as
02:49investigations continue. Cindy Raghuvan Tikasingh, TV6 News.
