00:00Around 6.30 p.m. on Monday, 50-year-old Seelal John is believed to have fallen
00:06off a moving truck, a fall which proved to be fatal as he was pronounced dead at
00:12the scene along Ramay Trace Day Bay. While relatives of the Barakpore man
00:18await an autopsy to confirm cause of death, they remain confused over why John
00:23was on the truck in the first place and how exactly he fell off. When we visited
00:29John's Lawrence Hill, Barakpore home on Tuesday, we spoke with two of his
00:34sisters. I don't know what happened to him. All I get a message is he fell off a truck.
00:39He was on a truck taking a ride or something and he fell down and he died.
00:43He had three mirrors in the vehicle, two sides, outside, one in front. And you would have seen
00:49somebody here in the truck. I don't know where he went. The other sister says she
00:56rushed to the scene of the incident when it happened and spoke briefly with the
01:00truck driver. I met him last night and I asked him how he tell me he didn't know
01:07my brother was on the truck. That is a poor excuse. So I don't know. I would like to know how he died, but in a way I didn't know how he didn't suffer. He just fell and he didn't break up damage, suffer.
01:22The family described John as someone who was always helpful and did odd jobs in and around the
01:28community for people. But they could not say where or if he was working for
01:33someone on Monday. While they await the outcome of the police investigation, one
01:39of the sisters is hoping the truck driver could provide them with some
01:42clarity on the circumstances surrounding her brother's death. I would like you to
01:48come and visit me and visit the family and tell us exactly the truth. The truth will set him free. You cannot let somebody die like that. You have somebody behind your truck and you slow down, speeding, and you skate out of the truck and fall.
02:03And people have to call and say, everybody in the village, everybody know. And come in to bring message home here for we that he died. And you living right down the road and you couldn't send a message or come.
02:17According to an interim police report, a woman driving behind the truck on Monday afternoon noticed something fall off the back of the truck and swooped to avoid the fallen object. She then stopped to check what it was and observed the motionless body of a man. Investigations are ongoing.
