00:00We have a mix, and we are already in a state of emergency, day 7, it's still early.
00:07And we are hopeful that we will get all the way.
00:10Optimistic that her officers will be able to detain the mastermind criminals
00:15and not just the smaller offenders,
00:17Police Commissioner Ula Harewood-Christopher says there is a lot of work still to be done.
00:23We are experiencing a measure of success,
00:27however I would not want to go into much details now.
00:30On Saturday, the TTPS issued a statement saying,
00:34Since the SOE was declared on Monday, 126 people have been arrested,
00:3917 firearms recovered,
00:41and over 675 rounds of assorted ammunition seized during more than 1,000 searches.
00:49On Sunday, following the TTPS's annual interfaith service held in San Fernando,
00:54Commissioner Harewood-Christopher was also asked whether or not
00:58the police service would be providing security to prosecutors
01:01after a number of them expressed the fear of being targeted
01:05following the assassination of Attorney Randall Hector
01:08outside a church on O'Lear's night.
01:11Yes, we are working on providing additional security.
01:16When asked about complaints of understaffing within the police service,
01:21the Commissioner said while this issue has existed for a few years,
01:25the exhaustive process for hiring police officers is both rigorous and necessary.
01:31We know for the past five years we have been working on recruiting officers.
01:37We must know that we cannot get the process for recruitment.
01:42Over the year, although we were supposed to recruit 1,000 officers in 2024,
01:48that was timely simply because of the processes.
01:52We have applicants who have failed the polygraph, failed the psychometric,
01:56and we have to ensure that when we recruit, we recruit the best.
