After the opening loss to Bangladesh, West Indies skipper Rovman Powell said his batters should have done better, whereas the bowlers were quite effective.

One of his concerns is the batters not capitalising during the powerplay.

00:00After losing the opening T20 International to Bangladesh by 7 runs in St. Vincent, West
00:05Indies skipper Ravman Powell was hurt.
00:07What concerns him is the way his batters have been approaching the powerplay, which he sees
00:11as a crucial moment in the game.
00:13Yeah, I think it's disappointing to be honest.
00:15I think the bowlers put in an incredible bowling performance on a weekend like that.
00:20We always knew that as a batting group, we try not to lose wickets in clusters, but you
00:26know we did that today.
00:27Yeah, it's been a problem now for us and you know it's something that we have to really
00:32look on as a batting group.
00:33You know the statistics say if you lose three or more wickets in the powerplay, often times
00:37you end up on the losing side and we have proven that time and time again.
00:42Regarding his own batting, Powell has been getting runs off late, including a half century
00:46against England in their last T20 series this year, but the unassuming captain is not taking
00:51all of the credit.
00:52I think a lot of credit has to be given to my batting coach back home, Robert Samuels.
00:56He's always instilling in me that I'm a batter with power, not just a swiper or a hitter
01:00of the cricket ball.
01:01But I've done a lot of work behind the scenes and it's good to see that I'm getting a little
01:06bit of consistency now.
01:08Powell says it was a big plus restricting the opposition to 147 for six from their 20
01:13overs.
01:14Aqil Hussain was the standout bowler with two for 13 from his four overs.
01:17Yeah, I think the bowlers put in a very good display.
01:20I think the powerplay was very, very good by Aqil Hussain.
01:23He keeps on showing his class and trying to help us out in the powerplay.
01:27I think also the middle phase was good.
01:30It's also important for us to keep on improving as it comes down to the dead overs.
01:36And now the big question.
01:38What does Powell want out of his troops when they get set for Game 2 on Tuesday night at
01:42the same venue?
01:43I think tomorrow we have to sit down as a group and have some honest conversations to
01:46be honest.
01:47You know, it's been a lot of T20 cricket for the years, so I know the boys are fatigued
01:52but what we see happening is something keeps on repeating itself and when it keeps repeating
01:57itself, we have to try our best to stop it.
02:00The curtains come down on Thursday with the last game also being played at the Honours
02:03field ground from 8pm, which means all three are night matches.
02:07Vinod Nawani, Chiefs Export.
