00:00We are on the compound with the Bonnacourt Primary School. It is because that we are
00:05using their wing, which used to be the post-primary centre, that is what we are
00:09using right now to host our children. But we are just asking that we be given a
00:15new school, right, so that more children can come because we actually have a
00:21total of over 20 students on the waiting list, waiting to come into the school, but
00:26we cannot enroll them because we don't have the space. So we are just asking
00:30the Division to consider us, remember us, and we just want a new school.
00:37The words of Special Education Teacher 2 and Senior Teacher at the Tobago School
00:43for the Deaf, Speech and Language Impaired, Davion Toppin, following the
00:48institution's walk in Bonnacourt, Tobago. She said it is time that special
00:53children are treated equally. And for far too long, our school has gone unnoticed
00:59and unrecognized. And we are trying so much to have the children be included
01:05and be treated just as their peers in the regular school. But many times we
01:11notice when we take them out to events and different activities, people will
01:15ask, so what school is this? Ms. Toppin said the students at the school have
01:21been performing well. We want our children to feel included because they
01:25are doing so much. May I just add this, Liz, that we would have competed in the
01:31recent Concluded Junior Heritage Festival, and we would have sent a Queen
01:36and also a Maypole group, right? And the Queen, she's dancing, Miss Naima Dempsey,
01:44she placed second. And our Maypole team, we were fifth out of a total of ten
01:51schools. We were the only special school in that competition.
