00:00There was devolution of power about a month or so ago and so right now through the office of the chief administrator,
00:06the extended leave and different types of leave that were normally not done through the office of the Division of Education,
00:12through the Secretary of Education, everything outside of the regular occasional and the sick had to go to the desk of a Minister of Education
00:19and so that was one of the first areas we asked Minister and the Prime Minister to look into for us.
00:25Secretary Hackett said the Minister of Education is aware of the matter.
00:29And Minister Saddam Hussein was also very much instrumental in having us sit down with Minister Maraj as well,
00:36for us to sit down and go through the Act, the Constitution, all the guidelines, the teachers' regs that we use through Teaching Service Commission
00:43and actually sit down and take our time going through, you know, how do we get away from all these bureaucratic processes
00:50that, you know, put our Tobago teachers at a disadvantage.
00:53Hackett said leave classification is being done in Tobago.
00:56So right now, those leaves are classified in Tobago. We're very happy.
01:00It saves a lot of time and we don't have that challenge of teachers retiring and, you know,
01:05they'll leave still unclassified to be able to give them their benefits at the end of their tenure.
