04 June - National weather forecast by Steven Keates
Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest forecast from the Met Office. Mixed fortunes this weekend
00:07with high pressure dominating towards the north, bringing a largely fine and settled
00:12picture here. Further south though, we've got areas of showers and thunderstorms pushing
00:16up from the south, bringing some heavy rain and some intense downpours, perhaps some lightning
00:20as well, and altogether a more unsettled flavour to the waters south. Towards and into next
00:25week, a more generally unsettled theme takes over. Back to this afternoon though, we've
00:29still got some showers and thunderstorms across parts of south-west England, a warning
00:32in force for this. These should gradually fade away as they pull away towards the west,
00:36but a few more showers and thunderstorms are possible across the south this afternoon.
00:40Further north, plenty of sunshine away from the North Sea coast, and warm in western Scotland,
00:4522-23C, and warm in the south where we've got some sun as well. Then a bit of a lull
00:50in activity in the south this evening, before further showers and thunderstorms look like
00:54they're going to push up from the south. Met Office warning for thunderstorms in force
00:58from midnight for much of England and Wales. Quite a mild night in the south, underneath
01:02all the cloud and the rain. Further north though, under clear skies, particularly for
01:05western Scotland, chilly, perhaps with a touch of grass frost in one or two spots. So that
01:10north-south split in fortunes continues into Sunday, with a fair amount of fine, dry, bright
01:15weather across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, sunniest in the west. Further south
01:18though, further showers and outbreaks of heavy rain pushing their way northwards. I think
01:23the thunder is greatest during the morning, quite cool where it's wet across central areas,
01:27again it's warm in the sunshine. Looking ahead towards Monday, more generally a showery
01:31picture across the UK, although parts of Scotland still seeing some sunshine. Keep up to date
01:35with the forecast for where you are of course, by checking the Met Office across social media.
01:39Bye for now.
