14 July - National weather forecast presented by Alex Burkill
Transcript
00:00Hello, very good day to you. Some further sunny weather across southern parts through
00:04the next day or so, but a wetter picture in the north and remember some exceptionally
00:08high temperatures early next week. Back to the here and now and you can see through Thursday
00:12afternoon a scattering of showers across parts of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Northern
00:16England. Some of these could be heavy at times. Sunnier further south and here, although temperatures
00:20not quite as high as they have been earlier on in the week, could still get to highs of
00:2427 or 28 Celsius. Notice a slight downward trend in temperatures as we look further north.
00:29As we go through the end of the day on Thursday, we will see most of the showers dying out,
00:34though I think across parts of Northern Scotland they are going to linger into the night. Notice
00:38then a swathe of wet weather pushing across parts of Northern Ireland and Western Scotland
00:42as we go through the early hours of Friday morning. Central Southern England and Wales
00:46having clear skies, so perhaps a few pockets of mist and fog and notice temperatures not
00:51quite as high as they have been through some recent nights, so perhaps a little bit more
00:55comfortable for sleeping. A bit of a wet start then across parts of Western Scotland and
00:59Northern England as we go through Friday morning with some persistent rain here, but
01:04this should break up and become a bit more showery in nature as we head through the afternoon.
01:08So showers into the afternoon across parts of Central Southern Scotland, much of Northern
01:12England, but notice a dry brighter picture across Northern Ireland as we go through the
01:16afternoon. Looking further south and again, plenty of sunshine here. Temperatures similar
01:20to Thursday, but notice further north temperatures may be just a touch higher for most of us.
01:26As we go through Friday evening, then most of the showers are going to die out and clear
01:29away towards the east. So for many, it will be a fine end to the day with some clear skies
01:34through the night, though again, it is going to be quite a mild night for most. As we look
01:39to the weekend, then high pressure building and dominating the picture, leading to lots
01:42of settled weather here. But as we go into next week, the high drifts away towards the
01:47east, allowing hot air to drag in from the south. And that's when we're really going
01:51to see those exceptionally high temperatures. There's a chance that we could have the highest
01:55ever temperature recorded in the UK, with an outside chance of exceeding 40 Celsius.
02:00As a result, we have issued an extreme heat warning because those conditions really are
02:05going to be very difficult. It's definitely worth keeping up to date with the full forecast
02:09wherever you are on all of our social media channels. See you later.
