00:00:00You
00:00:11Billy McNeil makes the European Cup for Celtic
00:00:30You can see it before your eyes. Celtic, we know our history, we make history.
00:00:49It's back to league action in the Scottish Premiership, where Celtic currently boasting a flawless record of 5 wins and 5 Queen's Sheets in the league.
00:00:57Their best start since the 2016-17 season are set to face St Johnstone.
00:01:03This evening's encounter at MacDermid Park promises to be a test, and even with Celtic's impressive form, it will be one to watch for where we are in the world.
00:01:14This evening at St Johnstone versus Celtic, live on Celtic TV with a full audio commentary for those listening in the UK.
00:01:22The Ireland kick-off is under 15 minutes away at this slightly later time of 5.45pm in the UK.
00:01:29I'm Dalen Docherty calling you through all the action this evening, wherever you are supporting Celtic.
00:01:34I'm delighted to say I've been joined today by former Celtic player and a regular here on Celtic TV, Simon Donnelly.
00:01:41Celtic, impressive form, but St Johnstone, they've had some disruption with the sacking of Craig Levine and the installation of Andy Kirk at the helm at the minute.
00:01:52What do you expect from this one? It's shaping up to be an excellent game, but...
00:01:56It is, yeah, and I think it'll be another difficult one. I think our record up there of late has been really good, and I think Celtic just have to keep playing the way they are.
00:02:07We've started this season in fantastic form, Dalen, there's games coming thick and fast, we've obviously got the Champions League round the corner,
00:02:13but this is the league, this is what we're defending, we want to win this one again, and it's an important afternoon, or evening, should I say.
00:02:20It's evening, yes, Simon, it's the later kick-off, which I'm sure the fans will have enjoyed on their way to Perth this evening or this afternoon, we'll get that one ironed out.
00:02:30Let's have a look at the team line-ups this afternoon.
00:02:34Seven changes for Brendan Rodgers' side, with the likes of Auston Trusty coming in for his first start, as you can see on the screen now.
00:02:44Schmeichel, Johnston, Trusty, Scales, of course the captain, Karl MacGregor,
00:02:49Paolo Bernardo, Arnard Engels, Nicolas Koon, Dijon, Maeda and Kiyoko,
00:02:54with a bench of Sinisalo, Ida, Valle, Yang, McEwan, Nawrocki, Hatate, Forrest and Ralston.
00:03:02As I said, Simon, seven changes, Alistair Johnston, Liam Scales and Greg Taylor, they all return to the back line,
00:03:08Engels replaces Real, Hatate in the midfield, Paolo Bernardo keeps his place, Koon, Maeda and Kiyoko all start.
00:03:16Nicolas Koon, he is the man of the moment, I know Arnard Engels is the big money move for Celtic,
00:03:24but Koon, it's five goals and six assists for him at the start of the season, he's been great, hasn't he?
00:03:29He's been brilliant, it's been a really good return, and he's really taken off from pre-season form,
00:03:35where he played a fantastic ball against City for Kiyoko, his form's been excellent,
00:03:40you've seen how important he is to this team coming off the bench last week,
00:03:44with a couple of assists and a couple of goals within minutes of him coming onto the pitch,
00:03:48so he's in fine form, Engels is another player I want to see a lot more of,
00:03:52he looks the part, as you say, big money signing, but he's strolled into that Champions League game
00:03:58as if he'd been playing at the club for ten years, it's a strong start in XI,
00:04:02I think obviously there's so many changes because the manager decided to change things around in the cup last week,
00:04:07but that's a strong start in XI, obviously Carter Vickers has got a little bit of an injury,
00:04:11so it'll be interesting to see the two centre-backs, both left-footed,
00:04:14playing together today for the first time, but from midfield to front they look really strong.
00:04:19Yeah, we'll go into St Johnston's team a little bit closer to kick-off,
00:04:22but the man that's picked that team is of course the manager Brendan Rodgers,
00:04:27well, he caught up with Matt Campbell at McDermott Park down pitchside,
00:04:31so let's go and hear what the manager had to say earlier.
00:04:34Brendan, good evening, we're up against a St Johnston side tonight that haven't won at home this year,
00:04:43they're obviously without a permanent manager just now as well, but what sort of test are you expecting here tonight?
00:04:48Well, we always anticipate a very tough game,
00:04:52we know that every team that we'll play against will raise the game,
00:04:56five, ten percent, so we have to be ready for that, but yeah,
00:05:00they've scored some goals recently, so we have to be mindful of that.
00:05:04Our concentration is very much on ourselves and playing the game that we want to play.
00:05:09So, you're saying that concentration is on us and what we do.
00:05:12Having a wee look around the place, the pitch looks excellent,
00:05:15I've got to say. Does that encourage you that tonight you'll continue to see the football that you want to see from your side?
00:05:22Yes, absolutely. I think that sometimes I've been here before and it maybe hasn't been as fast,
00:05:27but in the main, it's normally been a good pitch, but to come here so early in the season,
00:05:30I think you can see there's plenty of grass on it and for us, it's all about the attitude tonight.
00:05:35Our organisation has been good this season, we've got talent in the team,
00:05:39so the attitude getting into this game now is to go and take that into Tuesday's game with a really good performance.
00:05:46Auston Trusty is in tonight and is starting XI,
00:05:49we spoke yesterday about how the fact that Cameron Carter-Vickers is carrying just a wee injury,
00:05:54but in these moments of adversity for some players, is that a chance to provide a good opportunity for another player?
00:06:01Yes, it's exactly that, it's opportunity.
00:06:03You know you're never going to go through the whole season with the same 11 players,
00:06:06so it's just about the guys coming in, they're well prepared,
00:06:11they're well drilled on the training field, so they understand what it is that we want from them when they come in.
00:06:16So, it's a nice chance for Auston to come in and,
00:06:19OK, he's not on his preferred side, but he's technically good enough to be able to play on that right side.
00:06:25Really looking forward to the game, Brendan, best of luck.
00:06:27Pleasure, thank you, cheers.
00:06:31Yes, thank you to Brendan Rodgers and Matt Campbell,
00:06:34down pitch-side at McDermott Park, and the manager confirmed it there,
00:06:37Simon Auston Trusty will go directly into the position that Cameron Carter-Vickers plays,
00:06:42the right side of that defence, a bit awkward for him,
00:06:45but it'll be interesting to see if a man that's got his pedigree,
00:06:4830-odd appearances in the Premier League last year for Sheffield United,
00:06:51it'll be interesting to see how he strikes up a partnership with a man that's been excellent this season,
00:06:56Liam Scales.
00:06:57Yes, and the manager there obviously answered that question that I was wondered about
00:07:01when I saw the start of the XI.
00:07:03As you quite rightly say, the experience there, that's maybe why he's got the nod on the right-hand side,
00:07:07Scales has been very comfortable playing alongside Carter-Vickers,
00:07:10so it'll be interesting to see how the two of them build that partnership this afternoon,
00:07:14but as I said, when we look at that initial team, midfield to front is where Celtic's really strong this afternoon,
00:07:21and I think that'll get them the three points.
00:07:23Well, Auston Trusty made his first start for Celtic last week in the League Cup against Falkirk,
00:07:28so let's go and take a look back at the action from Celtic Park last week,
00:07:32Celtic won 5-2 and progressed to Hampden Park.
00:07:40Falkirk, attack down the left-hand side with Tate.
00:07:44Walks it across towards the right.
00:07:48Does well, but it's a shot.
00:07:50And it's in the back of the net.
00:07:52The ball bounces down, it looks like VAR might have been held back,
00:07:55but Mikaeva wasn't waiting, and he plays it low to Kasper Schmeichel's left-hand side.
00:08:02Celtic pushing forward again, looking for the equaliser.
00:08:07Atleti flips that one into the box, it's headed on, it's a chance for Bernardo...
00:08:11And he scores! Wonderful play.
00:08:13Atleti, the header on from Bailly, his first assist,
00:08:16and Paolo Bernardo with a powerful volley, 20 minutes on the clock,
00:08:20and it's one-a-piece.
00:08:30As the ball's knocked forward, and again, it's Falkirk.
00:08:34The ball clipped to the far post, it's a header and it's a goal.
00:08:38Finn Yates steers this one into the back of the net.
00:08:42Well, it was a composed header.
00:08:49Ralston switches it into the middle of the park.
00:08:52Taylor, back to Ralston again,
00:08:54and slide it through into the box, it's a chance, the ball across,
00:08:57it's a goal!
00:08:59Adam Ida, the simplest of tap-ins, a wonderful delivery from Kuhn,
00:09:03and Celtic with 69 minutes on the clock,
00:09:05the Irishman's second goal in consecutive games at Celtic 2.
00:09:09Falkirk 2.
00:09:12It's all square in this quarter-final, here comes Celtic again,
00:09:16it's a chance for Ida, it's through...
00:09:18He scored again!
00:09:20The Irishman, it's a quick double, couldn't they provide it again?
00:09:24Ida, he gets the break of the ball, his slots are under the goalkeeper,
00:09:28and from 2-1 down, Celtic lead by three goals to two.
00:09:40CELTIC FANFARE
00:09:50Engels, what's happening through the middle, it's a chance for Kuhn,
00:09:53can he make it 4-2, can he put Celtic in the semi-final?
00:09:56He does, wonderful goal from the German!
00:09:59He's had two assists, but that's the pick of the bunch,
00:10:02the ball through the middle for Engels,
00:10:04he showed great skill, great composure,
00:10:07Celtic lead by four goals to two, they're heading back to Hamden.
00:10:21Bernardo tries forward, gives it to Ida.
00:10:26Towards McGregor.
00:10:27Oh, Celtic always try to walk it, and Kuhn!
00:10:30And Kuhn scored again!
00:10:32Well, talk about a super sub.
00:10:36The ball breaks to the German, he had one thought on his mind,
00:10:39he crushes it beyond Hogarth,
00:10:41and Celtic have five again for the second consecutive game.
00:10:46CELTIC FANFARE
00:10:59WHISTLE BLOWS
00:11:03What a red card there from Michael McKenna,
00:11:06the challenge on Rawlson,
00:11:08the referee immediately issues the red card.
00:11:16CELTIC FANFARE
00:11:23So that was the performance and the result that got Celtic to here,
00:11:27in MacDermid Park, that was last week in the League Cup,
00:11:30we're back in league action, and it's of course a great time to tell you
00:11:34you can still get your Virtual Paradise one-fold ticket
00:11:38if you're listening in the UK and Ireland,
00:11:41the jackpot is as usual a superb £3,000 into play,
00:11:44just search the Apple Store and Google Play for the Celtic Pools app.
00:11:47Supporters must be over 18 to play, please visit BeGambleAware.org.
00:11:52It was a good performance in the end, Simon, by Celtic,
00:11:55but there was a credit to the opposition, Falkirk as well,
00:11:58I know they got beat today by Wraith Rover,
00:12:00so that league record domestically for them as an unbeaten side is now gone,
00:12:05but they were impressive, weren't they?
00:12:07I thought they gave a good account of themselves, they really did,
00:12:10up to the hour mark, scored two really good goals.
00:12:13And we're testing Celtic, and it was a huge credit to them
00:12:16that Brendan looked to the bench to bring four of the boys on,
00:12:19and they had an immediate impact, we spoke about Koon there,
00:12:22but to have two assists and two goals,
00:12:25and he was virtually on the pitch 15 minutes,
00:12:27it shows how effective he's been at the start of the season.
00:12:30It's great to see him starting here tonight.
00:12:33Celtic fans in attendance, the atmosphere's just building in Perth,
00:12:38in McDermott Park, it's funny the manager was asked about the pitch,
00:12:43Simon, it is a ground that's hot and cold in terms of the quality and the surface,
00:12:48but you have to say, no, we can't see it from the pictures at the minute,
00:12:52the pitch looks excellent, and that will only help Celtic, won't it?
00:12:56Yeah, definitely. The surface looks lush there,
00:12:59it looks as if it will suit our style of play,
00:13:03I remember the time when James Forrest scored a few goals
00:13:06it was like a beach almost, very sand-based,
00:13:09but look at the surface there, it looks excellent,
00:13:11and it will suit the Celtic style of play today.
00:13:14Well, Kyle McGregor leads out Celtic,
00:13:16can they keep up their perfect Premiership start in Perth?
00:13:20It's going to be a great one to watch,
00:13:23as the looming trip to Germany is over the horizon,
00:13:28Dortmund awaits for this Celtic side on Tuesday.
00:13:32We'll just go into the St Johnstone side,
00:13:35if I can just read out, it's got Ross Sinclair and goals,
00:13:38we think it's going to be a back three of Lewis Nielsen,
00:13:41Kyle Cameron, the captain, Jack Sanders,
00:13:44and a midfield five of Dre Wright, Sven Sprengler, Matt Smith,
00:13:47Graeme Carey, Andre Raymond, and up front,
00:13:50the ever-experienced Nicky Clark and Mackenzie Kirk,
00:13:54a young ex-Hearts youth product.
00:13:57Celtic have won 14 successive games,
00:14:01and all eight of their fixtures this season,
00:14:04they've won 13 in a row at MacDermid Park,
00:14:07since that 2-1 defeat back in May 2016,
00:14:10when former St Johnstone manager Stephen McLean got the winner.
00:14:14It's a funny old game at times,
00:14:16but this seems to be a happy hunting ground for Celtic, doesn't it?
00:14:19It does, but it won't make the task any easier tonight,
00:14:22I think they'll still need to go about their job,
00:14:24it's a credit to them if it's 13 on the win,
00:14:26it's because they went up there and applied themselves,
00:14:30it's how you apply yourself, application and the work rate,
00:14:34and this team has got it in bundles.
00:14:37But it's an important one, you can't take the foot off the gas,
00:14:40you have to keep doing the right things,
00:14:42like they've done from the start of the season, and keep winning.
00:14:45Two Irishmen in the dugout,
00:14:48Brendan Rodgers and Andy Kirk,
00:14:50as Kyle McGregor rallies the Celtic players,
00:14:54insisting that the standards stay the same as they have been
00:14:58from the start of this season.
00:15:00It's been a fantastic start to the season,
00:15:03can Celtic continue that this evening against St Johnstone,
00:15:07who are still looking for their first win,
00:15:10four defeats in their last five,
00:15:12everything you would imagine points to a Celtic win.
00:15:15But it doesn't always work out like that,
00:15:17Celtic will have to be professional,
00:15:19keep the attitude high,
00:15:22and work well.
00:15:25Arnaud Engels, he'll get the game started.
00:15:30The atmosphere sounds great in the stadium.
00:15:35Just checking out the surface, I think the Belgian will be happy
00:15:39as Kyle McGregor gets the game under way.
00:15:45Here's Auston Trusty with his first touch in the right-centre-back position,
00:15:50Johnstone cuts the ball, looking for Nicholas Koon.
00:15:55He's quick to get the ball again for the throw-in.
00:16:02Johnstone.
00:16:04Puts the ball back to the American.
00:16:07Replacing his fellow countryman due to injury.
00:16:12Give the Celtic fans a good chance to see what he can do after last week.
00:16:19Cameron.
00:16:20St Johnstone clears the ball high.
00:16:23That's well won back into the centre of midfield by Alistair Johnstone.
00:16:30Celtic get their foot on the ball,
00:16:32St Johnstone manager Andy Kirk, or the interim manager I should say,
00:16:36after the shacking of Craig Levine,
00:16:38said St Johnstone will be doing a lot of out-of-possession work this week,
00:16:42they expect Celtic to have lots of the ball,
00:16:45and we expect that to be the case.
00:16:48Yeah, it's reflective of just the first 60-70 seconds here,
00:16:52Celtic have immediately taken the game to St Johnstone,
00:16:55and yeah, more often than not domestically the opposition
00:16:58playing against somebody like Celtic, very position-based,
00:17:01they will have to work really hard to try and frustrate,
00:17:04but we've taken this to them straight away here, all the play in their half.
00:17:08Greg Taylor, Celtic of course come into the game in second place
00:17:12in the Scottish Premiership,
00:17:14in the unfamiliar position probably of trailing a very well-done started side
00:17:19in Aberdeen in Jimmy Tillian.
00:17:22He's really got Aberdeen going, six wins on the bounce,
00:17:27so they sit top of the table, but a win would put Celtic back there
00:17:31due to the superior goal difference.
00:17:33And here's Nicolas Koon, he's just pushed off the ball,
00:17:37but referee Don Robertson not having any of that.
00:17:42And here's Raymond, puts the ball into the centre,
00:17:46and it's going to be lots of hard work for Nicky Clarke this evening,
00:17:52but St Johnstone do have the foul.
00:17:59And Liam Scales...
00:18:04...wins the ball, but Celtic do have the ball,
00:18:07I think that was actually a Celtic free-kick.
00:18:09Yeah, I think he gave it to Scales, there wasn't too much in it,
00:18:12but I think Celtic got the foul.
00:18:14Here's Koon, now to Johnstone,
00:18:16there's a first chance for Celtic to get on the move,
00:18:19and they have their first corner kick.
00:18:21Cameron concedes it, another chance for Celtic to get the ball into the box.
00:18:25It's a familiar pass, we've seen him do this a few times now,
00:18:28the outside of his left foot, and it's an underlapping run
00:18:31from Alistair Johnstone, who wins the first corner.
00:18:33Celtic as usual go quick, here's Arma-Engels, gets the ball into the box,
00:18:37just dealt with, only as far as Paulo Bernardo.
00:18:44Back to the Portuguese.
00:18:49Taylor moves the ball out to his captain.
00:18:54Maida.
00:18:57Looks to come inside, no foul.
00:19:03It's cleared over, only as far as Koon,
00:19:05he's done very well, and Celtic have a chance to spring a trap.
00:19:10It's dealt away, and it is a throw-in.
00:19:14Johnstone quickly back there, I think he spots Kiyoko at the far post,
00:19:18just trying to clip it into him.
00:19:23Scales was sensational against Slovan Bratislava,
00:19:26sat the game out against Falkirk, he's back in.
00:19:30Here's Koon.
00:19:32Andre Raymond, does well again.
00:19:35That's good defending from Trustee, that's what we want to be seeing.
00:19:41McGregor, that's a good ball to Maida, can he get on the end of it?
00:19:44Here's a chance for Celtic, Kiyoko!
00:19:46He's pulled on the trigger, but the goalkeeper, Sinclair, gets the ball.
00:19:52So close there, it's a great ball from McGregor,
00:19:56It might just be offside.
00:19:58Many times we see him take off like that, encouraging the pass,
00:20:02he's just trying to put it out of the path of Kiyoko,
00:20:04it might have been pulled up for offside.
00:20:06Every chance that might have been offside, yes, Simon.
00:20:11He's so good at that, he makes up the mind of the midfielder,
00:20:14sometimes it's Taylor on that side when he just takes off.
00:20:17Here we go again, Andre Raymond pulls back,
00:20:19Nicholas Koon, no foul given.
00:20:23It's a bit hard to believe, ball goes out for a throw-in,
00:20:27Celtic are asking the question.
00:20:29It's a strange one, I think he accidentally clips him,
00:20:32but it's certainly a foul.
00:20:35You think, is this potentially a goal-scoring opportunity
00:20:39if Nicholas Koon gets on the end of that?
00:20:41He comes across the path of the defender and he gets clipped,
00:20:45whether it's deliberate or accidental, but it's still a free kick.
00:20:50There's no second look at it anyway.
00:20:55Pullback there on Sven Sprengler from Paolo Bernardo.
00:21:02Five minutes gone, but you can see the intensity
00:21:05that Celtic look to be playing at.
00:21:08The manager has spoken about that attitude, performance,
00:21:11he'll be looking for a performance of a Champions League side this evening.
00:21:16That's what Celtic are.
00:21:19It's well won, but here Celtic have the chance
00:21:23to counter-attack over the halfway line now with Dyson Maeda.
00:21:27He just overruns the ball.
00:21:33There's a chance now for St Johnson, the flag's down!
00:21:36Trusty, that's fantastic defending from the American.
00:21:39Leaves Nicky Clark down.
00:21:43It looked like he got off the ball there,
00:21:45McKenzie Kirk it was.
00:21:50That looked like...
00:21:52Trusty got most of the ball.
00:21:54He's just got in between the two centre-backs,
00:21:56but it's a good recovery run.
00:21:59Shows good speed to get back in here.
00:22:03I think he does well there, Trusty.
00:22:08Yeah, that's great defending.
00:22:12Here goes Maeda, he'll go make the run into the box.
00:22:15The Japanese decide to check back.
00:22:18Looks to get past Ray Wright.
00:22:23Engles looks for the 1-2 with Maeda,
00:22:25but goes all the way through to Ross Sinclair.
00:22:29You can just see the pace and the power that Arnley-Engles has,
00:22:32Simon, he's been fantastic since he's joined the club from Augsburg.
00:22:36He looks a real athlete, I've seen him in that Champions League,
00:22:39I'm very impressed.
00:22:42Looking forward to seeing him play a lot more.
00:22:47St Johnson, they've been sitting in,
00:22:49but that just shows that they can string a trap on Celtic.
00:22:55Through McKenzie Kirk,
00:22:57and it was a former Hearts product.
00:23:01You go through the St Johnson side,
00:23:03it's littered with former Hearts players,
00:23:06the Craig Levine effect that they had,
00:23:09and now he's gone and just throws it all in the air.
00:23:13For the Perth side.
00:23:16There was talk of Scott Brown possibly coming into the club,
00:23:19but he looks like he's staying at Ayr after signing an extension.
00:23:27Which will be positive news for the fans of the side in the Championship.
00:23:34St Johnson go back to the drawing board looking for a manager.
00:23:38Andy Kirk, of course, former Breaking City manager,
00:23:43left to become the assistant to Craig Levine.
00:23:50Ingles.
00:23:54That's a trusty.
00:23:58Here's Maeda.
00:24:00Here's Maeda.
00:24:06The atmosphere is fantastic in the stadium.
00:24:12Here's Koon, looks for the outside run of Johnston.
00:24:16Andre Raymond does well.
00:24:19He's stood up well so far.
00:24:23Here's Koon, looks for the chip ball into the box.
00:24:27Cleared away for a Celtic corner.
00:24:30Another dangerous one, just putting it into an area,
00:24:32hoping for somebody to go and attack it.
00:24:34It's a real awkward clearance.
00:24:39Ingles will take the corner kick.
00:24:42Celtic might want to put this one into the box.
00:24:46If Ingles is deliberate.
00:24:50The likes of Trusty and Scales in there.
00:24:52Can Celtic get the opening goal?
00:24:57Ingles.
00:24:59It's cleared away.
00:25:02Van Ness and Johnston defence, but it may come back.
00:25:09Ingles.
00:25:12To Greg Taylor.
00:25:17Belgian sees the ball again, it goes back to Scales.
00:25:27Johnston trying to get out.
00:25:29They're really hammered in, Simon.
00:25:33Celtic have dictated from the start, apart from that one break.
00:25:38It's been all Celtic so far.
00:25:43Only three meetings between the sides last season.
00:25:47Celtic 1-2.
00:25:49Through the opening game, 0-0.
00:25:52Celtic Park.
00:25:56It's 3-1.
00:25:58Each way after that.
00:26:01Coon puts the challenge on.
00:26:04Former Dundee United striker and former Rangers striker, Nicky Clark.
00:26:11He's used his experience there a little bit.
00:26:14To tease Nicholas Coon into the challenge.
00:26:21That's pressure by Dijsselmeida, and Celtic have the chance.
00:26:25Kiyoko's pass is just off it.
00:26:28Celtic spurn the opportunity.
00:26:30It was a real chance.
00:26:32Kiyoko's tried to fizz that in with pace.
00:26:35One back brilliantly from Lleida.
00:26:37He just needs to roll that in, but he's played too much on it.
00:26:40Let's just get away from Coon.
00:26:42We know Coon is lightning quick, but not that quick.
00:26:47Big chance for Celtic there.
00:26:49Hopefully they've got it right.
00:26:51I'm still surprised how players like to dwell on it,
00:26:54especially the likes of Dijsselmeida.
00:26:56They must know him by now.
00:26:58He's going to never give you a second.
00:27:01I think Lewis Neilson will have enough.
00:27:04He's evening cut out.
00:27:08With the likes of Dijsselmeida hounding it.
00:27:1227 goals Celtic have scored so far this season,
00:27:15across all competitions.
00:27:18Firing on all cylinders.
00:27:21They've been excellent.
00:27:27Remember, back to last season in December,
00:27:30Brendan Rodgers wasn't too happy with his team's performance
00:27:33at MacDermid Park.
00:27:35He was a bit of a sore loser.
00:27:37He spoke about it yesterday, the journey they've went on since then.
00:27:41The team's really evolved.
00:27:43There's Johnson.
00:27:44Keogh will have the chance.
00:27:46He clips it in.
00:27:47But Maeda was there as well, and it goes for a corner kick.
00:27:50I just wondered if there was a handball in the build-up to that,
00:27:53but it seems to be a corner kick for Celtic.
00:27:55Johnson's picked him out brilliantly here.
00:27:57It's a great ball in.
00:27:59He tries to bring it down.
00:28:01The defender just retrieves the situation.
00:28:04Celtic goal.
00:28:06Celtic goal quick again.
00:28:08Engels.
00:28:11He's got Bernardo there, but opts for his captain.
00:28:22Scales.
00:28:30Koon.
00:28:31He's a live wire.
00:28:33Chips in, looks for Keogh.
00:28:35Good goalkeeping from Ross Sinclair.
00:28:39Commands the ball.
00:28:41But you can see the idea that Keogh and Koon are working on.
00:28:44Yes, he sees a good picture here.
00:28:46It's a nice little run.
00:28:48Just the angle and the ball.
00:28:49It's always favouring the goalkeeper there.
00:28:51It's a nice idea.
00:29:02Trusty, just goes in a bit heavy.
00:29:03A bit heavy on Mackenzie Kirk.
00:29:07The 20-year-old wins the foul.
00:29:14Much in that, Simon?
00:29:16I think it's one of those ones where I don't think he can win the ball,
00:29:19just with the position of the man in front of him.
00:29:23He obviously felt he could,
00:29:25and he's just got into the back of the striker.
00:29:29It's a chance to get the ball into the box for St. George.
00:29:33Johnston.
00:29:36Not much of the ball.
00:29:38Under 20 per cent possession.
00:29:43Let's see what they can do.
00:29:45Matt Smith and Graeme Carey, former Celtic youth.
00:29:48Puts the ball into the box.
00:29:52Should be dealt with by Celtic.
00:29:57Back in, McGregor.
00:30:00Keogh over to St. Johnston, come back.
00:30:02Here's Smith.
00:30:03Slides the ball through for Kirk.
00:30:05And St. Johnston are playing for a handball on Alistair Johnston.
00:30:10It goes for a corner kick.
00:30:13He's on the floor.
00:30:15He goes to ground, trying to block the cross.
00:30:18It goes behind him.
00:30:21Don't think there's much you can do about that.
00:30:23Yeah, I think that's, a year ago, likely to be given,
00:30:26but we know now there's been a change in the strategy, Simon.
00:30:28There's been some common sense used.
00:30:30Yeah, it's been applied.
00:30:32But St. Johnston have the corner kick.
00:30:3415 minutes on the clock here.
00:30:36Their first corner of the game.
00:30:39They'll look to crowd out Kasper Schmeichel here.
00:30:43Celtic fans behind the goal.
00:30:45Ball comes in.
00:30:48It's headed into those Celtic fans behind the goal.
00:30:52That's St. Johnston's first chance of the game.
00:30:55Albeit not a big one.
00:30:57Room scales.
00:31:00Two goals for him this season.
00:31:02Both headers.
00:31:08Kasper Schmeichel.
00:31:11Sees the ball.
00:31:20He's got the ball.
00:31:22He's got the ball.
00:31:24He's got the ball.
00:31:27He's got the ball.
00:31:29It's the captain, Carroll MacGregor.
00:31:31Looks to find Johnston.
00:31:33Celtic are on the move now.
00:31:35Here's Nicholas Kuhn.
00:31:36One-on-one with Andre Raymond.
00:31:38It's Kuhn.
00:31:40Cuts inside.
00:31:41He looks to push from the back there.
00:31:43Referee not really having any of it.
00:31:47Don Robertson, he's looking for the game to flow.
00:31:50Here's MacGregor now.
00:31:54Taylor.
00:31:57And he's inverted full-back position.
00:31:58Here's Kiyoko.
00:31:59What a pass!
00:32:00And what a chance for Kiyoko, but it's not over yet!
00:32:03And Kuhn spurns the opportunity.
00:32:06Off his right foot, goes into the Celtic fans behind the goal.
00:32:09But really, Kiyoko should have done better there.
00:32:11It's a chance.
00:32:12Again, it's great movement and it's a great pick-out.
00:32:14Timing, perfection, just can't get enough on it.
00:32:17It comes back to Kuhn.
00:32:19That's two or three times now, this similar kind of ball,
00:32:21just clipped in.
00:32:22Great movement from Kiyoko.
00:32:24Just can't get enough purchase on the shot.
00:32:28Big opportunity for Celtic.
00:32:30It's still 0-0 in Perth.
00:32:34But you do feel the goal for Celtic is coming.
00:32:46And that's the type of runs and service that he enjoys, Simon.
00:32:49Yeah, you know, the likes of him and Meyad,
00:32:51they're so good at getting on the shoulder,
00:32:53getting in between defenders.
00:32:55The timing of the run there is brilliant,
00:32:57but Callum McGregor's got to pick him out, and he does that.
00:33:00The only thing he gets wrong is he just doesn't get enough on the final shot.
00:33:05Taylor looks for that run of Meyad, but the keeper,
00:33:08Ron Sinclair, will get there.
00:33:12Just like a game of chess at the minute,
00:33:14they're just trying to find their way.
00:33:16But Andy Kirk here will be pleased with how his side have started.
00:33:20Remember, they were 3-1 up against Ross County last week,
00:33:23and they spurned a chance of three points.
00:33:28A 3-3 draw in the end from Dingwall.
00:33:31Dingwall.
00:33:40Auston trusty.
00:33:48Here he is again, the American.
00:33:51Two caps for his country.
00:33:54He's looked assured so far.
00:33:59Here's Koon.
00:34:01Bernardo.
00:34:04That's good play from Celtic, he's opened up now.
00:34:07Here's Meyad up.
00:34:10He's looked to go on the outside of right with the left foot,
00:34:12gets the ball in.
00:34:14And it's another corner kick for Celtic.
00:34:17They're moving the ball nicely slightly,
00:34:19from one side of the pitch to the other,
00:34:21you know when that guy gets it.
00:34:23Doesn't complicate it, he just wants to push it by,
00:34:26and test the defender.
00:34:29Another corner.
00:34:30Playing at such pace, Simon, it's almost hard to keep up.
00:34:33I say it every week on this programme,
00:34:36I'd hate to play against Meyad.
00:34:38He won't give you a second's rest.
00:34:42Here is Arna Ingles.
00:34:45Here is Arna Ingles.
00:34:50Delivery's been excellent, but the ball comes in.
00:34:53It's over the head of the goalkeeper, he has to deal with it.
00:34:56Trusty looks to try and get the ball back in,
00:34:59but it goes away for a goal kick.
00:35:01He's seen there was a push there,
00:35:03I don't think there's gonna be that much in for Don Robertson to have a look,
00:35:07but it was a good delivery right on top of the goalkeeper.
00:35:10Yeah, just nobody there.
00:35:12He's flipping another one in.
00:35:16The keeper slaps at it to get it away from danger.
00:35:31It's well won by Trusty again.
00:35:35McGregor.
00:35:37St Johnson gives the ball away.
00:35:40The full game plan will be based around not having the ball.
00:35:47Johnston.
00:35:51Here's Koon, finds the Canadian,
00:35:53Johnston gets the ball into the box, here's Kiyoko!
00:35:56Kiyoko still has the chance and it falls into the hands...
00:36:00..of Russ Sinclair, and goal.
00:36:03It's good play down the right-hand side again with Koon and Johnston.
00:36:07Very athletic, very quick, look at Johnston this time,
00:36:10he's just trying to put it into an area again,
00:36:13I've seen Kiyoko time and time again attack that front post over time here at the club.
00:36:19It just didn't fall for him.
00:36:21Just not quite falling for the Japanese so far,
00:36:24but as I said, you feel that moment is coming.
00:36:28You feel the goal is gonna come from this right side of the pitch,
00:36:31Simon, with Alistair Johnston and Nicolas Koon,
00:36:33they have quite the understanding of each other.
00:36:37Johnston's always willing to give himself on the overlap or the underlap,
00:36:42and Koon can see the pass.
00:36:50Here's Liam Scales, Celtic want to build from their central defenders once again.
00:36:59Johnston, and you can see the runs off the ball from Arne Engels.
00:37:04Robertson, the referee's happy with that.
00:37:07Here's Bernardo.
00:37:10The ball's just behind Alistair Johnston.
00:37:15Here's Cal McGregor.
00:37:18Engels just can't get his foot on top of the ball,
00:37:21gives Johnston a chance to come out.
00:37:23Celtic win the ball back, Taylor's cut the ball in,
00:37:25looking for that run off Kiyoko,
00:37:27it's well defended by Johnston.
00:37:30I think it was Captain Cameron who got the ball away.
00:37:34It's just coming back at them.
00:37:36GARY GILLESPIE It just keeps coming back,
00:37:38even Celtic, a little bit careless there,
00:37:40but they go and win it back straight away.
00:37:42So quick to react to it.
00:37:46Johnston.
00:37:49To Nicolas Koon.
00:37:51Cuts inside, almost unopposed,
00:37:53Arne Engels gets the ball into the box,
00:37:55but once again bundles into the hands of the goalkeeper,
00:37:59but these St Johnston players 20 minutes into the game
00:38:02feel like they've played 70 minutes so far
00:38:04with the way Celtic have been moving them around the pitch.
00:38:06Yeah, that's the thing as well,
00:38:08because it takes an enormous amount of work and effort
00:38:11to try and keep Celtic out,
00:38:13you hope that pays dividends as the game progresses.
00:38:17And how difficult is that from a side that's lower down in the league,
00:38:20doesn't have the resources that Celtic has?
00:38:24I like it if we were to go and play Real Madrid,
00:38:27how hard is it to have that fitness to chase a team
00:38:30that just moves the ball much quicker than you do?
00:38:32It's horrible, but the fact that it's still 0-0
00:38:36will encourage them to keep going,
00:38:38that's why it's important for Celtic to try and get that goal,
00:38:42and discourage them a little bit,
00:38:44because then they'll start to feel it even more if they go behind.
00:38:47I've come to Celtic Park with teams in the past,
00:38:50and it can be a long, long afternoon
00:38:53if you're on the end of a 4-5-6-0.
00:38:58Celtic are moving the ball well.
00:39:04I often find if you watch the players ahead of the central defenders,
00:39:08it's great to see the movement.
00:39:12Here's Maeda.
00:39:15FANS CHANT
00:39:19Taylor goes back to Liam Scales.
00:39:26Every Celtic player bar Kasper Schmeichel in the St Johnstone half.
00:39:30Here's Koont, goes round the outside,
00:39:33looks to get the ball in with his right foot,
00:39:35Engels was there, but it's dealt with by St Johnstone,
00:39:38and it's coming back.
00:39:41Paolo Bernardo.
00:39:46McGregor looks for that clip-through ball again.
00:39:53It's great power by Johnstone,
00:39:55and Andre Raymond takes him down, the referee gives the free kick.
00:39:59Great play from Alistair Johnstone to win the free kick,
00:40:02and it's a great opportunity for Celtic.
00:40:05Yeah, it's in a good area, and again down this right-hand side.
00:40:10Andre Raymond will know he's in a game already,
00:40:12because if it's not Koonert against him,
00:40:14it's Alistair Johnstone testing him as well.
00:40:16This time he gives the foul away in a good area for Celtic.
00:40:20That's the wing-back, Andre Raymond,
00:40:22he's almost on his own in that position dealing with the two players.
00:40:27The centre-back's not getting involved.
00:40:32As the sun shines on the face of Ross Sinclair,
00:40:35as it sets in pair,
00:40:37backhand Celtic.
00:40:39Spark.
00:40:42And open up their goal-scoring account here.
00:40:45Here's Arma Engels, finds Koonert,
00:40:48tries a smart one, Nicholas Koonert,
00:40:50drives it into the box, here's Maida!
00:40:52What a goal from Dyson Maida,
00:40:54he's been totally on form this season,
00:40:57he's got another goal,
00:40:59and it looks to be the perfect starting pair,
00:41:01it's 25 minutes gone, it's St Johnstone 0-1,
00:41:04and it's Dyson Maida.
00:41:07Not so sure that was exactly how they worked the free-kick there,
00:41:10they went short with the free-kick,
00:41:12I think it was Koonert to get the shot away.
00:41:15And it's a deflection, it just comes back to Maida,
00:41:18and it's a great volley.
00:41:21See it here, Koonert just pops up off the heel,
00:41:24the St Johnstone defender,
00:41:27and the timing of the volley is excellent from Maida.
00:41:31Now it's his fifth goal of the season,
00:41:34St Johnstone player down in the box,
00:41:36we'll find out more about that as it goes on,
00:41:39but it's a great finish from Dyson Maida in front of the Celtic supporters,
00:41:43and St Johnstone lose the goal they've been looking to try and keep,
00:41:47and Celtic go ahead.
00:41:49GARY GILLESPIE It's a great strike,
00:41:51I don't think that's the free-kick they worked,
00:41:53I think they were trying to get the short one in for Koonert to get a strike away.
00:41:58It popped up nicely, but he still had to get his hip over it with the left foot.
00:42:02Fantastic volley.
00:42:04GARY GILLESPIE I wonder if there's a check going on here, Simon,
00:42:0726 minutes on the clock,
00:42:09just due to that incident in the box,
00:42:12the players are over having some drinks,
00:42:15it looks like Don Robertson is going over to the screen,
00:42:18so this might spell danger for Celtic, let's have a look at it here.
00:42:21Nicholas Koon does receive the ball,
00:42:23and it's off the ball as you can see,
00:42:25Auston Trusty just tries to lean into the defender,
00:42:28he goes down, but that might get chopped off.
00:42:31GARY GILLESPIE Yeah, we've seen the body going down.
00:42:34He doesn't see Trusty coming.
00:42:37Does he lean in a little bit there, Simon Trusty?
00:42:40Is that enough?
00:42:42GARY GILLESPIE He's trying to block the run,
00:42:44unfortunately it's run about the guy's head,
00:42:46he's taken a sore one, he's cancelled the goal out.
00:42:48GILLESPIE Don Robertson has chopped the goal off,
00:42:52assistance from the VAR, Alan Muir,
00:42:55it's St Johnson 0-0, Celtic 0-0,
00:42:57that's made his goal, it's been chopped off.
00:43:00Carey doesn't see him coming.
00:43:03GARY GILLESPIE And Auston Trusty's alleged foul on Carey is enough
00:43:08to get this goal chopped off, it's St Johnson 0-0, Celtic 0-0.
00:43:15That's disappointing, isn't it, Simon?
00:43:17SIMON GILLESPIE Yeah, as I say, I caught it in the corner of my eye
00:43:20just as Maida was volleying it into the net.
00:43:23Obviously with VAR these days, nothing gets missed.
00:43:28GARY GILLESPIE I think he's blocked Carey's run.
00:43:30Carey doesn't see him, he runs into him,
00:43:32takes a sore one in the head.
00:43:35He's just seen it, he's run into my shoulder.
00:43:40SIMON GILLESPIE Would you call that a natural incident on the pitch?
00:43:45GARY GILLESPIE He's moving blind.
00:43:47Carey's watching where the play's coming from,
00:43:49he's trying to come out.
00:43:52To the back four there.
00:43:58SIMON GILLESPIE That's disappointing for Celtic,
00:44:01but I just hope with the way Celtic have been playing in this game
00:44:07it's only a matter of time before they do get that opener.
00:44:11St Johnson 0-0, Celtic 0-0.
00:44:14Graeme Carey, of course, a former Celtic player,
00:44:18Back in 2009.
00:44:22Not trusty, he'll feel hard done by there.
00:44:36The ball is back in play now.
00:44:39Maeda.
00:44:42Rolled away by Sanders.
00:44:48GARY GILLESPIE It's a great ball, isn't it?
00:44:50SIMON GILLESPIE I think that's the disappointment about VAR,
00:44:53when the good goals are chopped off, isn't it?
00:44:55GARY GILLESPIE If it was Maeda, I'd be gutted.
00:44:58SIMON GILLESPIE No-one dies in Maeda, I'm sure it won't faze him,
00:45:01he'll just go and get another one at some point.
00:45:03GARY GILLESPIE Celtic have certainly shown enough in this half hour
00:45:05to suggest the goal's coming.
00:45:07Their goals have been fluid in their play,
00:45:10there's been a few half chances.
00:45:13SIMON GILLESPIE It's not been a dull one so far, Celtic.
00:45:16They've been playing well.
00:45:21Celtic bench probably weren't too happy,
00:45:23but that's a late challenge on Alistair Johnson from Matt Smith,
00:45:26and Don Robertson does go into his book for that one,
00:45:29he gets a yellow card for the late tackle.
00:45:34GARY GILLESPIE No complaints, pretty straightforward.
00:45:36He's late, Johnson just gets there before him.
00:45:40Rides the tackle.
00:45:46GARY GILLESPIE No complaints about that from Matt Smith.
00:45:53Looks like the captain, Cameron, has got an issue with his hamstring.
00:46:01Which will give St Johnson interim manager,
00:46:05caretaker, however you want to call him, a bit of a headache.
00:46:17GARY GILLESPIE Half an hour gone in Perth.
00:46:21Dyson Maida, he thought he got Celtic ahead in this one.
00:46:26We see it again.
00:46:29They both clatter into each other.
00:46:31I think it's...
00:46:34It's quite harsh, but...
00:46:35SIMON GILLESPIE As they're coming together,
00:46:37Kenny's come out, he has no idea Trusty's there.
00:46:39Trusty doesn't have to get out the road there,
00:46:44but it is a sore one from the St Johnson players' point of view.
00:46:49GARY GILLESPIE I don't think I would have liked to have ran into Trusty there.
00:46:52SIMON GILLESPIE No, he looks a big, strong lad.
00:46:57GARY GILLESPIE Great finish from Maida, he's been on fire this season.
00:47:03Tearing full-backs apart wherever he goes.
00:47:06He's really endeared himself to the Celtic support,
00:47:09they love the work ethic that he brings, Simon.
00:47:11SIMON GILLESPIE He's sensational, he really is.
00:47:16GARY GILLESPIE Brendan Rodgers called him probably the best in the world,
00:47:19almost, at what he does in terms of pressing the opposition.
00:47:24Looks like his game's over.
00:47:26SIMON GILLESPIE He's super fit and brings such a threat when he plays,
00:47:29just with his directness and pace,
00:47:32but also going back the way, working for the team.
00:47:34Fantastic team player.
00:47:36GARY GILLESPIE Kyle Cameron...
00:47:38..is off the pitch.
00:47:47Confirmation of that substitute, if it has happened.
00:47:54He's passed the captain's armband on,
00:47:56so he'll definitely not be returning.
00:48:0232 minutes on the clock,
00:48:05Trustee carries the ball over the halfway line,
00:48:09looks to find Johnston.
00:48:14Ingles, back to Koon.
00:48:20Maeda, finds Taylor, gets the ball into the box,
00:48:24Ingles is there, it's headed away.
00:48:27Johnston clips the ball, looks for Bernardo,
00:48:29chance for Celtic, and it's cleared.
00:48:32Great defending there by St Johnston, goes for a corner kick.
00:48:36GARY GILLESPIE It's another little clip,
00:48:38a little delicate one, he sees Bernardo taking off,
00:48:40and he's just trying to whip that round on the volley,
00:48:42and it gets blocked out for yet another corner.
00:48:48SIMON GILLESPIE That's the substitution.
00:48:53Essel...
00:48:55..comes on.
00:48:57He's a central midfielder, Aaron Essel,
00:48:59so it might be a slight change,
00:49:01or someone dropping back into the St Johnston defence.
00:49:10Here's Arnaz Ingles, delivers the ball right-footed.
00:49:13Great opportunity for Trustee, goes wide of the St Johnston goal,
00:49:17he might have thought he could have done better there,
00:49:20it's not to be for Celtic, it's still 0-0 in Perth.
00:49:23GARY GILLESPIE It's the substitute's job to pick him up,
00:49:25his first job on the pitch, and he gets away from him,
00:49:28coming in.
00:49:30Just impeded with the two St Johnston players in front of him.
00:49:33Great ball from Ingles again.
00:49:35SIMON GILLESPIE How good has his delivery been so far?
00:49:38GARY GILLESPIE Yeah, he looks a dead-ball expert.
00:49:41Obviously the one that springs to mind is the Champions League one,
00:49:44the skills, great whip, great pace on it.
00:49:48SIMON GILLESPIE Here's Kiyoko,
00:49:50and here's a chance for the Japanese,
00:49:52he's one-on-one, Kiyoko!
00:49:55No chance!
00:49:56The keeper had, on his 140th appearance,
00:50:00gets the goal to put Celtic ahead.
00:50:04What a finish from Kiyoko, that's what he does.
00:50:08Scores goals and Celtic are now ahead,
00:50:11it's St Johnston 0-0, Kiyoko and Celtic 1.
00:50:16GARY GILLESPIE I said they were playing as well,
00:50:18it was suggested they were going to score,
00:50:20this is a great finish, great composure.
00:50:23If he gets a wee bit of a break in the ball here,
00:50:25he's well onside, but now you need to show the composure.
00:50:29Ball's bouncing about, he lets it settle,
00:50:32and he steers it into the far corner.
00:50:34Lovely finish.
00:50:36SIMON GILLESPIE What a finish from Kiyoko,
00:50:38that's what he does, that's his bread and butter right there.
00:50:42GARY GILLESPIE And he gets a second chance,
00:50:44and he's in here, as I say it's bouncing about,
00:50:47but he just lets it drop to a height where he's comfortable,
00:50:51and then he steers it by the keeper.
00:50:53Three goals now for the season, second in the league,
00:50:57and Brendan Rodgers will be delighted,
00:50:59and his marksman has got the goal to get Celtic ahead.
00:51:11It'll be great for his confidence going into next week, Simon.
00:51:14SIMON GILLESPIE Yeah.
00:51:15GARY GILLESPIE It's great for the club as well,
00:51:17two strikers in for him, and Adelmida and Kiyoko both scoring goals.
00:51:21SIMON GILLESPIE Yeah, that's what the manager will be looking to,
00:51:24whenever they're on the field, to get that ball in the net.
00:51:28This little guy's been so good at it since he came to the club.
00:51:33GARY GILLESPIE Yes, he's under pressure from Maeda.
00:51:37Robertson gives the foul again, I know you had your arms up there, Simon.
00:51:42SIMON GILLESPIE Yeah, he's caught it with his hands.
00:51:45Then stopped Maeda taking the quick free kick.
00:51:48GARY GILLESPIE Celtic come again, can they get a quick second?
00:51:51Here's Kiyoko.
00:51:53Are my angles.
00:51:55Oh, what a pass from Engles, this is great football from Celtic.
00:51:58It's Nicholas Kuhn, can he get the shot on the way?
00:52:00Oh!
00:52:01It's over the bar, that deserved better.
00:52:04SIMON GILLESPIE Fabulous football.
00:52:07Great pass from Engles, vision, little flick for Johnston,
00:52:10here we see it, he sees him, reverse pass, little flick in,
00:52:13it's getting popped about nicely, and he creates his yard for himself,
00:52:17and then just gets it all wrong in the final strike.
00:52:21We've seen him score two last week, two brilliant finishes,
00:52:24but he got that one wrong.
00:52:26GARY GILLESPIE With the form Nicholas Kuhn has been in this season,
00:52:29you would have thought he would have rattled that one into the top corner
00:52:33to give Celtic their second goal this evening.
00:52:38There's Raymond, Arnie Engles has a little mark tug.
00:52:42Play on with Mackenzie Cook.
00:52:50Ball comes into the middle of the pitch, St Johnston have to be very careful
00:52:53with what they're doing here.
00:52:57Just feel Celtic are ready to spring on them at any moment.
00:53:04Bernardo clips the ball into the corner, looks to find Nicholas Kuhn,
00:53:08can the German get there?
00:53:11He can.
00:53:14Looks to go through the legs, almost nonchalant,
00:53:17but doesn't quite work out for him.
00:53:22Great passing from Bernardo.
00:53:25St Johnston just look nervous on the ball, Simon,
00:53:27they don't know what the next pass is.
00:53:29That's what I said, a goal discourages you,
00:53:31it knocks you out of your rhythm.
00:53:34Celtic look to have them on the ropes at the moment,
00:53:36if they can just get that second goal.
00:53:38Ball's played down the channel on the far side.
00:53:41Scales puts it back to the goalkeeper,
00:53:43and that's great distribution from Kasper Schmeichel,
00:53:46you can hear the applause from the Celtic supporters.
00:53:49Just knowing he brings that calmness.
00:53:51Maeda has a little kick there.
00:53:54And Don Robertson goes into the book for a yellow card,
00:53:56that's a forwards tackle, Simon, if you've ever seen one.
00:53:59He took the words right out my mouth, just mistimed, has a swipe.
00:54:05One that I'd probably have tried myself.
00:54:08That just gives St Johnston a breather after that goal,
00:54:11they've been really on the ropes as you said,
00:54:13but Maeda just swings through there on Graeme Kerry,
00:54:15he's had a tough evening so far,
00:54:17he's probably been on the deck more than he's been on his feet.
00:54:21Goes down, it's just late.
00:54:25But yeah, the goal discourages St Johnston,
00:54:27they try to keep that game plan of keeping it tight
00:54:30and maybe try to nick something.
00:54:32All of a sudden it's a change of mindset.
00:54:34Celtic look really threatening going forward.
00:54:38Ball comes in to the box.
00:54:42Kerry is under the pressure there from Maeda,
00:54:44stayed on his feet to his credit.
00:54:47Comes back to Graeme Kerry, left-footed,
00:54:49ball into the box, dangerous.
00:54:51Kasper Schmeichel has to punch it out,
00:54:53it's not dealt with by Celtic yet,
00:54:55it should be now, Greg Taylor clears his lines.
00:55:01Yeah, it was a dangerous ball on Kerry,
00:55:03another player on the pitch is good for the deliveries,
00:55:07set plays, that time it came back out to him,
00:55:10he flipped a dangerous ball in.
00:55:12Schmeichel punches it away.
00:55:15Vastly experienced Graeme Kerry,
00:55:17been around the game quite a bit now.
00:55:20Kinnear down in England with Thomas Argyle.
00:55:25Flips it into an area.
00:55:27It's coming right across bodies there,
00:55:29coming in at the front post, Schmeichel decides to punch it.
00:55:33Celtic have a throw-in down the near side.
00:55:37Just a moment ago you've seen the distribution from Schmeichel,
00:55:40he just brings that calmness.
00:55:43Celtic are being pressured.
00:55:47Here's Maeda, he's got Dre right ahead of him,
00:55:50looks to run past.
00:55:52He does well, Dre, stands up to the Japanese.
00:55:56Here's Esso, he's got to get up to speed.
00:55:58Checks back.
00:56:02Kerry looks for a ball inside, dangerous, but it works out.
00:56:06Former St Johnson player.
00:56:11It's good work from Mackenzie Kirk.
00:56:17Ball comes into the box, trusty, has Nicky Clark for company.
00:56:22Finds his partner in Liam Scales,
00:56:25but it's not dealt with and St Johnson have a throw-in.
00:56:28Yeah, last couple of minutes they've reacted OK.
00:56:31After looking as if the game might get away from them,
00:56:34they've gained their composure.
00:56:36They just need to be careful, Celtic, with these deliveries into the box,
00:56:40whether it's a long throw or a free kick.
00:56:47Trusty, just was under pressure there.
00:56:50St Johnson, get the ball into the box,
00:56:53he's headed on, and it's clear of the Celtic goal.
00:56:57Approaching half-time, St Johnson 0-1 Celtic.
00:57:00Kiyoko got the opening goal, and a typical finish from him.
00:57:06Greg Taylor just having a word here with the referee, Don Robertson.
00:57:16Wonder what about.
00:57:26The referee going over to Celtic bench.
00:57:31Having a word with the manager, Brendan Rodgers.
00:57:33Not sure what's happened.
00:57:39He's pointing to maybe a section in the stadium, perhaps.
00:57:44Greg Taylor, whether something's been thrown,
00:57:47I'm not sure, but it's been noted by the match officials.
00:57:55Greg Taylor was perhaps complaining of something from that side of the pitch,
00:57:59and he's alerted it to the referee.
00:58:04He's spoken to a St Johnston official.
00:58:07That's good play from Celtic, so composed.
00:58:11Taylor gets the booze.
00:58:15Celtic have broke through that press.
00:58:18Johnston.
00:58:20Clips the ball for Nicolas Kuhn.
00:58:25Clips the ball into the box, Kiyoko just puts it down,
00:58:28here's Bernardo, what a goal from the Portuguese from distance!
00:58:32Pavel Bernardo, double Celtic's lead, and a typical finish from him.
00:58:38And it's St Johnston 0-2 Celtic.
00:58:41It's great football from Celtic, as you said there, Dylan.
00:58:45They broke the press at the back, and suddenly they were released.
00:58:50Johnston played it into Kuhn on the right-hand side.
00:58:54It's been played into the middle, I think it's Kiyoko with a little...
00:58:57Keres, touch back to Bernardo, what a finish.
00:59:00They break the lines here, and we're away.
00:59:03This time we go direct.
00:59:07Kuhn just plays it in here, and I think it's Kiyoko with a little cushioned lay-off.
00:59:12Just here.
00:59:14It's a touch, and what a finish.
00:59:17Pavel Bernardo, he got his opening goal of the season last week against Falkirk,
00:59:22that's his first league goal, and what a goal that is!
00:59:25It's a great angle to see it there as well,
00:59:27just uses the St Johnston player as a shield, and passes it round him.
00:59:34He will be absolutely loving that, Pavel Bernardo.
00:59:38Fans love him too, he's absolutely brilliant.
00:59:44And you can only see more for Celtic.
00:59:46Here's Engels again looking for the run of this man, Nicolas Kuhn.
00:59:50That's absolutely fantastic, he's showing off now.
00:59:54Nicolas Kuhn.
00:59:57Cuts the ball for Dyson Maida, can Celtic get a third before half-time?
01:00:01There's Kiyoko!
01:00:03Oh, what a finish!
01:00:05What football, this is Celtic Football Club as you know it!
01:00:09Wonderful attacking football, absolutely fantastic.
01:00:13It's St Johnston now, Celtic 3, and it's Kiyoko again.
01:00:17That is magical, top-quality football right across the board.
01:00:21The same Kuhn was showing off, he's in full flow,
01:00:24it gets played back out, switches it from side to side,
01:00:27so difficult to defend, and Greg Taylor clips this one in right onto the head.
01:00:32It's laid off.
01:00:34And has he got his shell back onside? I think he has.
01:00:38That's very, very tight, Simon.
01:00:40Fantastic ball, and it's just a cushion back from where it came from.
01:00:46Well, I really hope that goal's not chopped off,
01:00:48because that was outstanding football from Celtic,
01:00:51Kiyoko finishes it off in style.
01:00:54It's half-time almost here in MacDermid Park, Celtic have their third goal,
01:00:59it's the fourth time they've had the ball in the net,
01:01:01they've been outstanding in this half, excellent,
01:01:04and Kiyoko buries that one.
01:01:06Celtic have been brilliant and they deserve that goal,
01:01:08but we'll just see if that's gonna be on or off.
01:01:11Well, we look at the defender's foot.
01:01:14Three-man's leading.
01:01:16I think he's onside.
01:01:18Looks so tight, is he onside, Kiyoko?
01:01:28Navarre is running the rule over it.
01:01:33The lines will be drawn.
01:01:39And it's a goal!
01:01:40And it's a goal, Kiyoko has his second of the evening,
01:01:44and that is deserved, what a goal.
01:01:46It's a fantastic goal, it's a real well-worked team goal again,
01:01:50but his movement there, he gets himself back on just at the right split second.
01:01:57Just in his movement, comes back in, and it's a great cross in from Greg Taylor.
01:02:02Well, there's six minutes added on, Simon,
01:02:04so it's time for another goal here,
01:02:06away Celtic are playing.
01:02:09Fans in, McDermott Park absolutely loving it.
01:02:14As will that man.
01:02:16He doesn't give much away on the touchline, Brendan Rodgers,
01:02:19but he'll be delighted with how his side have played in this half.
01:02:24As I said, Maeda, it was a great finish,
01:02:27it gets chopped off four times and hit the ball in the net.
01:02:30They've been excellent to watch,
01:02:32and they're playing like a true Champions League outfit.
01:02:35Yeah, it's the levels of finishing as well.
01:02:38Bernardo's was a lovely, guided pass into the corner,
01:02:42and then that one was well-worked again,
01:02:44and we look as if we're right on form here.
01:02:47Bernardo and Engels all getting involved here.
01:02:50Here's Taylor, looks for Kiyoko and Bernardo again,
01:02:54St Johnstone are all at sea here,
01:02:56this could be anything, they're just hoping it's half-time immediately.
01:03:02That's the danger when you play against a quality there,
01:03:05for half an hour you think they're in the game,
01:03:08all of a sudden the game's away from them,
01:03:11it's 3-0 and Celtic look a threat every time they venture forward.
01:03:17Engels stands over this one in the corner.
01:03:24And they are putting on the style, Celtic.
01:03:28Ball comes into the box from Arnaud Engels,
01:03:30it's headed high but it's gonna come back down.
01:03:34Engels finds Koon, clips the ball in.
01:03:39Still popping it about with such confidence, Celtic.
01:03:42Taylor in the right-back position almost.
01:03:46Calvin McGregor picks the ball up again.
01:03:50Engels just looks right at home in this Celtic midfield.
01:03:58Almost trusty.
01:04:09Johnstone looks for Nicholas Koon,
01:04:13Johnstone continues his run.
01:04:16Alistair Johnstone, clips the ball in, here we go again!
01:04:19And it's headed away, this time Kiyoko sniffing out his hat-trick.
01:04:25And that's Kiyoko's first away goal, Simon,
01:04:29since October of last year in the league.
01:04:33Incredible run that he was on, only home goals,
01:04:37barring a Scottish Cup away goal at St Mirren, and he's got two.
01:04:42If he stays on the pitch he wouldn't pass him getting a hat-trick.
01:04:46That old saying about buses for Kiyoko.
01:04:51They really look as if there's a real understanding between the team,
01:04:55no matter what 11 the manager sets out at the moment,
01:04:59as if they're all enjoying their football, why wouldn't they be?
01:05:02Scoring goals for fun.
01:05:05That's another assist for Nicholas Koon in this half.
01:05:13Gets him up to seven assists in nine games for the German.
01:05:20A terrific return, considering he had a slightly slow start to his Celtic career, Simon.
01:05:26Yeah, but I think it's well documented he wasn't at full fitness.
01:05:32Some players take a bit more time than others,
01:05:34but I think the form we've seen in pre-season, he's kicked on,
01:05:38he's taken his game to the levels we were expecting,
01:05:42but he's been superb this season so far.
01:05:46Engels.
01:05:49That's the captain.
01:05:53Scored a few crackers this season, Cal McGregor.
01:05:56Goal of the month.
01:05:58He was your pick for August.
01:06:00Might have a good chance for September as well,
01:06:02but we'll let the competition get started.
01:06:05That will begin in October, before we start picking the winners.
01:06:14He's got a good chance for two in a row, but we'll see.
01:06:24Celtic just calm it down a bit,
01:06:26this is what's so mature about a team of their elite level,
01:06:30they know when to twist a screw,
01:06:33and when to just take their foot off.
01:06:35And here we go again with Nicholas Kuhn.
01:06:37Kiyoko makes the run.
01:06:39Here's Kiyoko, gets it onto the left foot,
01:06:41he'll be wanting that hat-trick, Paolo Bernardo.
01:06:43It's Greg Taylor with the right foot, Taylor!
01:06:46And it goes past the goal for a corner kick,
01:06:49good save from the goalkeeper,
01:06:51he'll just be happy to get his hands on the ball.
01:06:54Good play again, they're queuing up.
01:06:56Kiyoko pops it off to Bernardo, he says to Greg Taylor,
01:06:59you have a shot.
01:07:01He cuts in and a deflection,
01:07:03the keeper couldn't take any chances.
01:07:18Engels.
01:07:20Well, St Johnstone will be absolutely delighted to hear the halftime whistle,
01:07:25Celtic will be delighted in their performance,
01:07:28that man Kiyoko, two goals for him.
01:07:31He got it going in the 35th minute,
01:07:33that man Paolo Bernardo, he struck the ball from distance in the 43rd minute,
01:07:38and Kiyoko once again got his head on the ball to make it 3-0,
01:07:43just on the stroke of halftime,
01:07:45Simon, it's been vintage Celtic, hasn't it?
01:07:48It's been really good, the first half hour St Johnstone tried to make it as difficult as possible,
01:07:53but still I thought Celtic's play was decent,
01:07:56we looked as if there was a real threat going forward,
01:07:58with one cancelled out, but then explosive, three quality goals.
01:08:04Great finish for the first one for Kiyoko,
01:08:06and then two goals that really worked its way through the team,
01:08:10Bernardo's was a fantastic finish in the end,
01:08:13and then a great clip from Greg Taylor for Kiyoko's second,
01:08:16and they've really blown St Johnstone away in that quick 15 minutes just before the break.
01:08:20Well, Simon, we'll chew over the first half a little bit later,
01:08:24but if you've enjoyed this action at MacDermid Park,
01:08:27it's about time we took you back down memory lane in this very stadium,
01:08:32some old classic matches between the two sides,
01:08:35which includes in the latter part of the episode a James Forrest four goals in one half performance.
01:08:42So let's go back and watch some classic matches between St Johnstone and Celtic.
01:09:13Samaras coming forward for Celtic, he's picked up well onto that right foot,
01:09:17drills it towards goal, Incombe on down low to his right-hand side,
01:09:20carries the ball away, then gets up to stop it going out the corner,
01:09:23but from Celtic's goal line up towards that,
01:09:26St Johnstone half the field of play, Samaras showing great, instinctive striker attitude,
01:09:31he got the ball down, he got the shot away, good handling by Incombe.
01:09:34I like the fact that even from 20, 25 yards out you've got a player prepared to shoot
01:09:39and just try and test the goalkeeper.
01:09:43Sturridge has a wee look up, right-footed, drills it out to the left-hand side,
01:09:47towards Samaras, did well to control it with his chest,
01:09:50a lot of pressure there from Mackay, and he does well to hold on to possession,
01:09:53picks out Charlie Muguru, plays the ball infield to the Celtic captain,
01:09:57at the edge of the centre circle on the left-hand side, Scott Brown,
01:09:59cross field towards Key, into the space, he plays it for Char,
01:10:02driving towards the goal line, Char cutting it back across,
01:10:04it's at Cardbox, flicked forwards there by Hooper,
01:10:06and over his own goal line there for a corner kick,
01:10:08the central defender getting in all sorts of trouble there.
01:10:12The six-yard box, Winyama's underneath it, it's on the ground, it's in the goal!
01:10:17Celtic have got the breakthrough goal, and guess who?
01:10:20It's number 88, it's a goal both for Supreme, Gary Hooper.
01:10:24The action was on the ball, flicked in, Victor Winyama threw himself at the ball,
01:10:28but it broke out to Gary Hooper, he pirouetted the ball and slammed it into the back of the net.
01:10:33It's in, Johnstone nil, Celtic one.
01:10:42Yes, step over, Craig this time goes, and again it hits Kyle,
01:10:45this time he stood his ground.
01:10:47And now St Johnstone will try with Miller to create something here,
01:10:50but out to the far touchline the ball goes, it's kept in play by St Johnstone,
01:10:54but Celtic who pick up the scraps, an opportunity for us to break here.
01:10:57Now there's a chance for James Forrest, over the half-way line,
01:10:59the wee man driving forward, Samaras in the acres of room,
01:11:01midfield, into the centre of the net, it goes to Samaras,
01:11:03back towards James Forrest, he takes one touch, he cuts it across,
01:11:06it's goal number two!
01:11:09It's a wonderful move by Celtic, they charge down the right-hand flank,
01:11:14and James Forrest very much at the heart of it,
01:11:16but Kee Sung-Yong and Samaras linking up well,
01:11:19and with the ball broke to Kee, he slammed the ball home,
01:11:22it's in, Johnstone nil, Celtic two.
01:11:31Brendan Hodgers stands in the technical area,
01:11:33just checking some instructions as Blair Alston tries to spin round his man,
01:11:36fires it back across, Swanson, it's a point-blank save,
01:11:39wonderful save from Craig Gordon,
01:11:41while Alston came round the back of James Forrest,
01:11:44and fired it on the volley, it was good technique from the number 11,
01:11:47but a wonderful save from the Celtic goalkeeper.
01:11:53One Frenchman trying to find an earner,
01:11:55but St Johnstone with the ball,
01:11:58eventually it's worked across to Foster,
01:12:00he's under pressure from Tierney,
01:12:02and Tierney wins the ball back, Kieran Tierney drives into the box,
01:12:05cuts it back to Griffiths, it's a chance for Celtic,
01:12:07saved and cleared from the penalty spot.
01:12:16Slip from Tanzer and it's allowed.
01:12:18James Forrest, Forrest, across to Rogic,
01:12:20Rogic thinks it through, looking for Edwards,
01:12:22it's saved, Forrest, second attempt,
01:12:24and it's palmed into the net,
01:12:26Clarke couldn't save it, he's furious with his defenders,
01:12:29because they were so slow to follow up,
01:12:31but James Forrest, left-footed, Celtic one,
01:12:34St Johnstone 0.
01:12:36A well-deserved goal there for James Forrest,
01:12:38he started that all, they were bursting forward with the ball,
01:12:41Tom Rogic unfortunately couldn't find the back of the net,
01:12:43it was a good save from Xander Clarke,
01:12:45but as you said the St Johnstone defence didn't react quick enough,
01:12:47the ball fell to James Forrest,
01:12:49who just slotted it home with his left foot,
01:12:51Xander Clarke got a hand on it but it wasn't enough,
01:12:53and it's a well-deserved goal for James Forrest.
01:12:57McMillan nudges it back to the left-back,
01:12:59he switches it inside, and this time it's Motherspoon,
01:13:02McGriffis curls it, saved again by Xander Clarke.
01:13:11Here comes Forrest, the goal-scorer,
01:13:13driving towards goal, and it's a good tackle,
01:13:15but Edward picks up the ball on his left foot,
01:13:17and it's a wonderful one-handed save from Xander Clarke
01:13:20to deny the Frenchman Celtic's second goal.
01:13:27There's no letting up in the pressure,
01:13:29McGregor, a one-two,
01:13:31a challenge there strongly by Swansea but finds Incham,
01:13:33and Celtic have worked the ball well,
01:13:35right to left, Tierney up against Foster.
01:13:38Pass it across to Edward, low,
01:13:40and this time it is a goal!
01:13:42And it's Edward, there was nothing that Xander Clarke could do,
01:13:45he took a touch and smashed it home with his left foot.
01:13:48Celtic 2-0 St Johnstone.
01:13:51Kieran Tierney out on the left just plays it into Edward,
01:13:54who's just inside the corner of the box,
01:13:56he takes a touch with his right foot,
01:13:58fires off with his left, low, driven shot to the far corner,
01:14:01it's an excellent finish.
01:14:06The whistle goes, Regriff steps up,
01:14:08he fires it, low, just wide of the left-hand post,
01:14:12Clarke was at full stretch, took a deflection off the top of the wall,
01:14:16Celtic have their fourth corner.
01:14:23Edward again does well, he's fouled,
01:14:25this time by Alstom that the referee ways play on,
01:14:28and James Forrest nudges it to Rogic,
01:14:30Rogic goes for the 1-2, Forrest, it's 3-0!
01:14:33Wonderful skill, wonderful play, Forrest to Rogic, back to Forrest.
01:14:38It's game over.
01:14:40Excellent play from Celtic, that's the kind of fluid-flowing football
01:14:43that Brendan Rodgers has been asking for from his players,
01:14:46and you're beginning to see improvements game on game here.
01:14:49Excellent play between Tom Roderick and James Forrest,
01:14:51a nice 1-2, it's a great return pass from Roderick,
01:14:54slipping it through the defence, in behind the run for James Forrest,
01:14:57who calmly sluts it past Xander Clarke with his right foot.
01:15:10Low stick just inside his own half.
01:15:13Edward has just pulled into the inside right channel.
01:15:16Griffiths flicks it inside, well, he actually finds Forrest,
01:15:19I think he was looking for Edward, but Forrest did well.
01:15:23Could this be the hat-trick for James Forrest?
01:15:25It's goal number three!
01:15:27The hat-trick hero, James Forrest once again rogues the provider!
01:15:31Wonderful finish, Celtic 4-0.
01:15:34Superb play all round from Celtic in the final third there again,
01:15:38Tom Roderick sees the run at James Forrest, great link-up play between the two of them,
01:15:42and it's an excellent ball, just slipped through the defence for Forrest to run on to,
01:15:46he takes a touch, Xander Clarke comes out to him,
01:15:49James Forrest just bides his time and then calmly sluts it past him with his right foot
01:15:53to get his well-deserved hat-trick, excellent.
01:16:02Low stick knocks that forward to the hat-trick hero,
01:16:04goes for the one-two again, there's almost a telepathic understanding between Roglic and Forrest,
01:16:09Forrest towards goal, a chance for goal number four...
01:16:12And it is goal number four for Forrest!
01:16:15He is on fire! Celtic, a famous five!
01:16:19Unbelievable, James Forrest once more, Tom Roglic the provider,
01:16:23but a wonderful finish at Celtic 5-0.
01:16:27You said it right there, Paul, there is almost a telepathic understanding
01:16:31between James Forrest and Tom Roglic, we know they're close off the field,
01:16:35but it definitely translates on the field, particularly today,
01:16:38it was a wonderful return pass as well to James Forrest,
01:16:42Tom Roglic was excellent, he just burst forward with the run,
01:16:45controls the ball, cuts inside and then with his left foot
01:16:48just smashes it into the bottom left corner,
01:16:51there was no way Xander Clarke was going to stop that one.
01:16:57And the second 45 minutes are underway.
01:17:02James Forrest already four goals to his name as Tom Roglic dances past two challengers,
01:17:08strides forward, still Roglic, Tom Roglic, this could be a great goal!
01:17:13It's smothered by the goalkeeper, Xander Clarke, another great save,
01:17:17well, James Forrest has scored four goals,
01:17:20but that would have been the goal of the afternoon if that had gone in.
01:17:28Well, that's a shocking challenge, we saw a red card at the Spurs-Cardiff game
01:17:33the other day for a similar challenge,
01:17:35and I think if that's a yellow card, well, it's a red card,
01:17:38and that's the correct decision, because that was the most reckless of lunges,
01:17:42there was no intent to tackle, it was just an intent to hurt the player,
01:17:47and there can be absolutely no complaints there from Danny Swanson.
01:17:55Lustig slides it to Griffiths, Griffiths onto his left foot, back to Lustig.
01:18:00Roglic on the edge of the D, Incham takes the shot,
01:18:03and it's saved again by the goalkeeper.
01:18:08Xander Clarke again showing us it.
01:18:13McGregor.
01:18:16It's now with Morgan, back inside towards Lustig,
01:18:19McGregor, well, that's a wonderful passing move,
01:18:22and Callum McGregor makes it super six.
01:18:26With six minutes to go, it's Celtic leading here by six goals to nil.
01:18:30More free-flowing football from Celtic in the final third there,
01:18:33that was excellent play between Morgan, Lustig and McGregor,
01:18:38lovely pass from Morgan to find the run of Lustig,
01:18:42times his run well, takes a touch, looks up,
01:18:44and sees Callum McGregor there, just cuts the ball back from McGregor,
01:18:48just calmly slots it past Xander Clarke,
01:18:50who's conceded for the sixth time today,
01:18:53a well-deserved goal for Celtic.
