00:00:00It's a great watch, and if you haven't got onto it, it's superb.
00:00:04It's a fantastic way to relive those tremendous moments from last season.
00:00:09Peter, we're just going to go into the second half pretty shortly.
00:00:13Arnaud Engels, I know he's making his Celtic Park bow from the start today.
00:00:17In general, what have you made of his performance?
00:00:19Oh, he's a very good mover.
00:00:20You can see the way he walks with the ball, he passes the ball well,
00:00:23he's got a good awareness round about his teammates,
00:00:26which is not easy because there's a lot of movement with the players,
00:00:28but he's very much aware of that, and he finds that little bit of space,
00:00:31as all good players do, and I've been really impressed with him in that first period.
00:00:35And looking on the bench, of course, Peter, we've got options of Paolo Bernardo,
00:00:39Luis Palma's back on there, and Adam Ida as well,
00:00:43so it'll be interesting to see these guys potentially getting on the pitch,
00:00:48especially as we spoke about Bernardo pre-match.
00:00:50There's great options that the manager's got, and James Forrest there as well.
00:00:54I nearly forgot about him almost!
00:00:56No, listen, James was brilliant at the end of last season,
00:00:59really he was a catalyst, I felt, for going on to win the league and the cup.
00:01:02He really came in and gave us a lift at Aberdeen in the semi-final as well,
00:01:06he was outstanding, but I thought his lead performances were excellent.
00:01:10But as you say, Luke McInerney, he's been doing very well at Dundee,
00:01:13and played really well in the Premier League,
00:01:16and that's where I'm talking about the strength in the squad now,
00:01:18you're talking about Palma, I just think you've got a lot of players on the bench
00:01:22that don't drop their levels, and I think that's so important,
00:01:25the strength in the group, and it's gone back to maybe two years ago
00:01:28when you felt that, when everybody's fit.
00:01:29If you keep everybody fit, and you can make these changes,
00:01:32I'm not a great believer in five and six players going on the pitch,
00:01:35don't get me wrong, I'm not a great believer in that,
00:01:37but I think the fitness levels that they try,
00:01:39the manager picks the times when he feels the tempo is dropping,
00:01:43maybe the crowd's a little bit quieter than normal,
00:01:45let's bring something in to try and lift that,
00:01:47and they've got the players that can do that.
00:01:49They've got the players on the pitch that can do that,
00:01:50but they've also got the guys on the bench, which is very important.
00:01:520-0 at half-time, Peter, Steven Naismith,
00:01:55he'll probably be sitting in the Hearts dressing room at the minute,
00:01:58pretty pleased, despite not really creating much,
00:02:01but there was obviously just that one incident where it was the penalty shoot-out.
00:02:04Well, you'd have been hoping it was a full-time whistle, not a half-time whistle,
00:02:07and he'd have settled for 0-0, there's absolutely no doubt of that.
00:02:10But they show you they've got a bit of a threat,
00:02:12because Kylian spoke about the long throw being a set play,
00:02:15Taylor's definitely got that, and both occasions they've got first touch on it,
00:02:19and we were fortunate on both occasions with the long throw,
00:02:21so we have to be very, very careful of that.
00:02:23It's a small detail that you would try not to give throw-ins or silly set plays away,
00:02:27because that's when Hearts probably do out physically as a team, size-wise,
00:02:33and I think that's something we have to be careful of.
00:02:35But I'm sure we've got the players that can go in here and get a couple of goals,
00:02:38we're a bit of fortune.
00:02:39Well, Calum McGregor and the Celtic team are on the pitch,
00:02:42so it's the perfect time to go back to our commentary team in the Celtic Park gantry.
00:02:47It's Kylian Sheridan and Paul Cudahy.
00:02:50No changes for either side at the break as both teams make their way out onto the pitch.
00:02:55The referee is just heading into the centre circle with the ball,
00:02:58it'll be Celtic to get the second half underway.
00:03:00It's the Celtic still line-up with Kasper Schmeichel and Gould,
00:03:03a back four of Alistair Johnson, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales and Greg Taylor,
00:03:08midfield trio of Calum McGregor, Arnie Engels and Rael Hattati,
00:03:12front three of Nicolas Koon, Diogo and Dijon Maida.
00:03:17The Celtic will certainly be looking to translate their dominance into goals in the second half,
00:03:23they've come close, Engels hitting the post,
00:03:26and of course Craig Gordon has produced a couple of good saves as well.
00:03:29Celtic shooting towards the Celt again, the Jockstein stand looking to get some goals
00:03:35that would give them their fifth consecutive win at the start of this Premier League campaign.
00:03:41I guess we'll continue defensively, and look to try and hit Celtic on the break.
00:03:47They did certainly come into the game a wee bit more towards the end of the first half,
00:03:51once they'd soaked up a lot of pressure.
00:03:58Celtic with a very strong bench, usually about the hour mark the manager might start to make some changes,
00:04:03but look to get the early break.
00:04:05It's Nicolas Koon, thought about the shot,
00:04:08dances past three, challenges, gives it to Hattati,
00:04:12now to Johnson, Johnson back to Hattati,
00:04:14swipes it over the bar.
00:04:16Well, it seemed almost a reluctance to shoot there,
00:04:19Nicolas Koon thought he'd got the opening,
00:04:21but at one point it looked like he was going to waltz through the entire defence.
00:04:24Yeah, both of them, him and Hattati,
00:04:26they both had chances to shoot and you're almost expecting them to pull the trigger.
00:04:31Koon done brilliantly to get himself into the shooting position,
00:04:34and then you thought he'd lost it, gets it back.
00:04:37And then probably when Hattati did shoot,
00:04:39it was the one you're not wanting him to shoot on.
00:04:45But I hope maybe that little bit of rain at half-time might go to Celtic's advantage,
00:04:50it'll make it look a little bit more zippier.
00:04:55He's got an early opportunity there,
00:04:57it would have been the best possible start to the second half.
00:05:00Taylor stands the ball, but he gets the break of it.
00:05:03It's Hartz with a right back,
00:05:05knocks that one through, but Carter-Vickers intercepts it ahead of Vargas,
00:05:08Celtic back in possession again.
00:05:11Switched across, Johnson's got a bit of space to drive forward,
00:05:15Engels is inside, the Canadian still moves forward,
00:05:19he's got the Belgian inside, gets it to the midfielder,
00:05:22who's already come close in this game.
00:05:24Keogh tries to work it through, there's no-one there,
00:05:26and Craig Gordon happy to see that one out of play.
00:05:30Right idea, I think he's seen the runners go beyond him,
00:05:34and he's just tried a hard touch,
00:05:38it's something he can definitely do.
00:05:41I don't know if that would have been a message during half-time,
00:05:45maybe try and get up into the final third a little bit quicker,
00:05:49or more so once you're in the final third, more towards the goal.
00:05:53The outfield options for Brendan Rodgers this afternoon,
00:05:57Austin Trusty, Luiz Palma, Adam Ida, Alex Valle, Luke McCown,
00:06:01Paolo Bernardo, James Forrest and Anthony Ralston.
00:06:06I'm sure some of those players will make an appearance at some point
00:06:09over the course of the next 45 minutes.
00:06:12Celtic have started this second half on the front foot,
00:06:15they've all played forward towards Koon,
00:06:17he's got ahead of Ten Reis, hits the arm of Ten Reis,
00:06:21it goes behind for a corner kick,
00:06:23I'm sure there'll be a review on that as well.
00:06:25The referee awards the corner kick,
00:06:27but it will be checked there, we'll see it again.
00:06:32That's a penalty.
00:06:33Your guess is as good as mine.
00:06:36Again, clearly hit his hand.
00:06:40It certainly looked as if it was blocking.
00:06:46That is a penalty.
00:06:47You always know as soon as they pull their hands back straight away,
00:06:51it's like you know they've made the mistake.
00:06:56Ten Reis, apart from anything else, he's been booked already,
00:06:59I'm sure if it's a penalty it would be a yellow card.
00:07:03Certainly blocked the cross there, he had his hand up.
00:07:10I'm not sure if Calum McGregor's thinking
00:07:12why is that needing to be checked there?
00:07:22Alan Muir checking this one,
00:07:24obviously in the first half he called the referee over
00:07:26to review a penalty he did give,
00:07:28will he call the referee over to review a penalty he didn't give?
00:07:33It certainly looks to me...
00:07:36there's a case to answer.
00:07:41I think the referee is going to be called to the screen
00:07:44to review this.
00:07:48I think the fact Ten Reis was trying to argue
00:07:50that his hands were in at his body
00:07:53looking at the replay you can clearly see enough.
00:07:55Does he then pick up a yellow card for that?
00:07:58In which case it's a sending off,
00:08:00I don't know if it's a double jeopardy,
00:08:03I don't know what the rule is.
00:08:07Throwing a lot of rules at me there.
00:08:09I think the first and obvious one is it's a penalty.
00:08:17It was a great run originally from Kuhn,
00:08:20getting him behind.
00:08:23So the referee having a look at the moment,
00:08:26the heart's benched, not happy.
00:08:29And the referee comes out,
00:08:31and I think he is going to point to the penalty spot,
00:08:33he's reviewed the decision,
00:08:35and it is a penalty to Celtic.
00:08:44I'm not sure who the penalty taker is now,
00:08:47is it Real Hattati?
00:08:50So a handball given against James Ten Reis.
00:08:54I think he's getting lucky here
00:08:56not to get away without a yellow card.
00:09:02In fact it is going to be Arne Engels
00:09:05who is going to take this.
00:09:06So a chance for the Belgian, the number 27,
00:09:10to score his first goal in Celtic colours,
00:09:14to give Celtic the lead with just over 5 minutes
00:09:17of the second half going.
00:09:21Well he's obviously a man full of confidence,
00:09:23a young man full of confidence,
00:09:24took the ball,
00:09:27and he's just waiting for the referee
00:09:29to give him the nod before he spots the ball
00:09:31up against Craig Gordon.
00:09:34So a chance
00:09:37for the Belgian,
00:09:38his first start for Celtic,
00:09:40only second appearance,
00:09:41can he give Celtic the leads?
00:09:43He steps forward, he hits it,
00:09:45and he sends the keeper the wrong way.
00:09:47Arne Engels gets Celtic up and running,
00:09:51his first goal in the Green and White Hoops,
00:09:53and Celtic leads by a goal to nil.
00:09:56That penalty was as cool as a cucumber.
00:09:59Yeah, just passed it in,
00:10:00used the zip on the surface,
00:10:04sent Craig Gordon the wrong way.
00:10:06Brilliant composure.
00:10:10Typified how he's played so far,
00:10:12he's been calm, he's been cool,
00:10:14he's looked so at home,
00:10:16looked very comfortable.
00:10:23Yeah, had a little look-up just before he hit this.
00:10:26Great penalty.
00:10:30Well, his first goal in Celtic colours,
00:10:33I'm absolutely certain it won't be his last,
00:10:36what a way to mark your debut.
00:10:39Real Atleti give him the ball there,
00:10:41showed great nerve,
00:10:42he went over the sidelines just to...
00:10:44a hug there for Real Atleti.
00:10:48So Celtic have a new penalty taker,
00:10:50it's that man on the ball.
00:10:53Celtic have the leads.
00:10:56The dilemma now for Hearts is,
00:10:57what do they do,
00:10:59because they have defended for most of this game.
00:11:07Yeah, from Celtic's point of view,
00:11:08it's exactly the start they needed,
00:11:10and then on the other side of it for Hearts,
00:11:12it's the worst possible start they could have had for the second half.
00:11:16Here comes Celtic again,
00:11:17it was Johnson in a similar position,
00:11:19he put the ball forward to Nicholas Kuhn,
00:11:21that led to the penalty.
00:11:23Kuhn's made a few of those runs already.
00:11:26As soon as Johnson or one of the other midfielders get it there,
00:11:28he's making that run in behind.
00:11:30Ball forward for Hatati,
00:11:31looking for Maida,
00:11:32he'll keep it in play.
00:11:34Wonderful pass there from Hatati,
00:11:37tail off a little bit at the cross,
00:11:38then he'll just give it back to Hatati again,
00:11:41switches it across to Johnson,
00:11:43edge of the box,
00:11:44Johnson moves forward,
00:11:45he's got Engels inside,
00:11:46and the offside flag goes up.
00:11:50Can't remember, oh, Maida.
00:11:53I think the play continues for so long actually,
00:11:56it's trying to remember that Brendan Rodgers will be delighted
00:12:01as Arne Engels,
00:12:03a hug between the two midfielders.
00:12:06And at first it did look as if Nicholas Kuhn was giving the ball to Hatati,
00:12:09who then just gave it to Engels,
00:12:11and again, only 20,
00:12:13but absolute rock-solid nerves there.
00:12:17Yeah, no, brilliant penalty.
00:12:19Look, any penalty that goes in,
00:12:20it's a good penalty,
00:12:21but you could see he was calm,
00:12:23he had a little look at Gordon before he hit us.
00:12:26Takes a lot of bottles to do that.
00:12:32Johnson's pass forward,
00:12:33looking for Engels,
00:12:34intercepted by Grant.
00:12:36Ball out of play.
00:12:38Kuhn's almost gone up,
00:12:39almost like a second striker with Thiago,
00:12:42and just playing off the shoulder.
00:12:52Celtic getting a lot of joy down that right-hand side
00:12:54in these early parts of the second half,
00:12:57but almost ten minutes gone.
00:12:58Again, there'll be some added time for that,
00:13:00but I'll review it.
00:13:02This afternoon so far, we're fans of the VAR.
00:13:05Hatati again switches it forward,
00:13:07Carter-Vickers has got space to drive forward,
00:13:10gives it to Johnson, back to the American.
00:13:12Kuhn, edge of the box.
00:13:15Johnson outside, Kuhn cuts inside,
00:13:17and again just runs into too many maroon shirts in the end,
00:13:20and it's cleared.
00:13:26Deserves a goal, Kuhn, today.
00:13:27I think the way he's played, he's been positive,
00:13:29he's attacking every chance he gets,
00:13:31he's been good off the ball,
00:13:36and again, just looks sharp overall
00:13:38in everything he's doing.
00:13:42I also think there's going to be a game where,
00:13:43because he's good at cutting inside,
00:13:45he's going to unleash a couple of shots
00:13:47that are going to get the goals.
00:13:49Yeah, that's the only slight criticism,
00:13:52it's just he's hesitating a little bit to shoot,
00:13:56getting into the positions,
00:13:57and you just want him to let one go.
00:14:27The more they attack, the more space they leave for Celtic.
00:14:29Yeah, that's the problem you can fall into
00:14:31when you're coming here and defending.
00:14:35You're stuck in two mines,
00:14:37and you end up doing nothing.
00:14:44Rider on the ball,
00:14:45angles again in the middle of the park.
00:14:48He's got space,
00:14:49thought about the shot,
00:14:50gives it to Johnson,
00:14:51Johnson, he does take the shot,
00:14:52it's blocked, spins back.
00:14:55Carthavikas will get there ahead of Valgas.
00:14:58He's got space on him, Cameron Carthavikas,
00:15:00because Valgas is pretty sprightly.
00:15:04Those ones there would probably prefer angles
00:15:06to go and have the shot,
00:15:07rather than Johnson having the shot
00:15:09from those kind of distances.
00:15:12Hearts.
00:15:13Bench.
00:15:14Well, they'll certainly
00:15:16probably make reference to the two penalties,
00:15:18the one given, the one not given.
00:15:21But all that matters is the scoreline at the moment,
00:15:23and it reads 1-0 in Celtic's favour.
00:15:26Taylor wins that header.
00:15:28Matati
00:15:29works that across,
00:15:30and suddenly Celtic on the attack again,
00:15:32and the ball's quite wide,
00:15:33and he's got space,
00:15:34he's got space,
00:15:35he's got space,
00:15:36he's got space,
00:15:37he's got space,
00:15:38he's got space,
00:15:39he's got space,
00:15:40and the ball's quite forward
00:15:42by Johnson to Kuhn,
00:15:43who'll sprint to keep this one in play.
00:15:45Johnson's in space.
00:15:48Back to the Canadian.
00:15:49Plays it low,
00:15:50it's a chance for Eggles!
00:15:51Flicks it with the inch,
00:15:52and he's healed.
00:15:53Just goes wide,
00:15:54but tricky play,
00:15:55I think it took a deflection,
00:15:56and it's a corner to Celtic.
00:15:58Yeah, great play overall again.
00:16:04He's on lockers.
00:16:07The ball back to McGregor.
00:16:11Celtic,
00:16:12carving,
00:16:13Hart's open.
00:16:14Matati
00:16:15flips it forward,
00:16:16looking for Eggles.
00:16:18He can keep that one in play,
00:16:19and he's offside in any case,
00:16:21behind for a goal kick,
00:16:23and again we saw him just appearing at the front post.
00:16:25Yeah,
00:16:26he looked brilliant in timing those runs into the box,
00:16:30and obviously I think the more he'll play with them,
00:16:33he'll understand what passes
00:16:35certain players can see and can execute,
00:16:39the more he'll play with Hatati,
00:16:41with Kuhn,
00:16:42McGregor and them,
00:16:43he'll realise when to go
00:16:45and when they can see something.
00:16:52The strength of the Celtic midfielder,
00:16:54you think that Paolo Bernardo was one of the best players
00:16:56in the game in the derby,
00:16:57and Kuhn again,
00:16:58cuts inside,
00:16:59past Penrice,
00:17:00well,
00:17:01again,
00:17:02should he have gone himself?
00:17:05Yeah.
00:17:07He's dying for him to shoot.
00:17:08Again,
00:17:09brilliant run,
00:17:10brilliant ball,
00:17:11through to him,
00:17:12it's a lot more direct.
00:17:15This time he does take the shot,
00:17:17as Celtic TV are wanting him to,
00:17:19but it goes high and wide,
00:17:20but you touched on already,
00:17:21his movement,
00:17:22particularly in the second half,
00:17:23it's really stretching hearts.
00:17:25Yeah,
00:17:26it's obviously something that's been said at half-time,
00:17:27for him to go up higher and then just play on the shoulder,
00:17:30because it's been on every single time.
00:17:32The lead-up to the penalty has come from that run,
00:17:35he's done it three or four times since,
00:17:39and I mean,
00:17:40if Hearts are going to keep letting it happen,
00:17:42just keep doing it.
00:17:43And once he gets the ball,
00:17:44there's space behind him for Johnson and Engels,
00:17:46just to fill in.
00:17:47Yeah,
00:17:48opens up,
00:17:49if Hearts start to drop off,
00:17:50then it frees up all the space in front of them.
00:17:54Celtic will want to add to their lead,
00:17:56of course,
00:17:57well,
00:17:58it's only one goal,
00:17:59Hearts will look to try and get a space,
00:18:01but Hattati shows great strength,
00:18:03tries forward,
00:18:04Benengeme,
00:18:05then Hattati tilts him back,
00:18:09and penalised for the foul,
00:18:13which showed great strength there in a couple of those challenges.
00:18:17Almost an hour on the clock,
00:18:19so far so good for Celtic,
00:18:21that Arlie Engels penalty,
00:18:24has given Celtic the lead.
00:18:27And Craig Gordon will come out to take this free kick.
00:18:33Beaten once this afternoon,
00:18:34the former Celtic goalkeeper.
00:18:37You can see now,
00:18:38this has been like a set-piece for them,
00:18:40they're getting centre-halves up.
00:18:45Ball launched long by the goalkeeper,
00:18:47it's headed away by Engels.
00:18:51Now the Celtic fans,
00:18:54may be reeling at Paradise,
00:18:56but they are enjoying the game again.
00:19:00Engels once more clears that one.
00:19:03I know the manager spoke about it before the game,
00:19:05but Engels,
00:19:06physically looks very,
00:19:07very good.
00:19:09He's dropping in,
00:19:10he's competing for headers,
00:19:12he's winning headers,
00:19:14defensively like that.
00:19:17Definitely just looks like a very,
00:19:18very dynamic player.
00:19:20You know,
00:19:21we often hear managers,
00:19:22and certainly fans,
00:19:23talking about competition for places,
00:19:25when Engels would have watched the Rangers game,
00:19:27and seen how well Paolo Bernardo played,
00:19:29knows what's needed.
00:19:30Paolo Bernardo now will be sitting there thinking,
00:19:32right,
00:19:33has the ball played by Shankland,
00:19:35able to open the space,
00:19:36but saved by Schmeichel,
00:19:37but again it just shows what's needed,
00:19:39and Schmeichel,
00:19:40well,
00:19:41that's throw-in of the game,
00:19:42challenge into the back of Neyder,
00:19:44surely a foul,
00:19:46and it's a goal.
00:19:47Of Neyder,
00:19:48surely a foul.
00:19:51Well,
00:19:52Taylor certainly fouled this Celtic player,
00:19:54howls of protest from the fans,
00:19:56nothing given by the referee.
00:19:59That's Kasper Schmeichel,
00:20:01so aware of what's going on as soon as he gets the ball.
00:20:03Yeah, brilliant,
00:20:04even from this vantage point as well,
00:20:07the shape of it was brilliant.
00:20:08Brilliant.
00:20:16The only surprise from it was that Maeda didn't actually get away from him.
00:20:30Celtic in position.
00:20:33Alistair Johnson,
00:20:34who has again started the season in fine form.
00:20:39Matati,
00:20:40middle of the park,
00:20:41back again to Carter-Vickens,
00:20:43it's almost like Celtic are just taking a small breather before they step up again.
00:20:47Just trying to coax Hartz out of that defensive shell,
00:20:51which they're still maintaining.
00:20:56Matati,
00:20:57who's trying to play that one through to Koon.
00:21:00Engels,
00:21:01picks up on this ball.
00:21:02Forward now to Johnson,
00:21:03Johnson inside to Koon.
00:21:09It's knocked out of play,
00:21:12but Hartz are kind of hanging in there,
00:21:15you kind of feel a second goal and that'll be it.
00:21:18Yeah, and I think that kills any hope that Hartz have as well,
00:21:21I think at the minute they're just relying on scrap,
00:21:24you even see when Craig Gordon's taken one deep in their own half,
00:21:28they're treating that as a chance.
00:21:30McGregor strides forward,
00:21:32finds Engels,
00:21:33again Johnson makes the run,
00:21:35space now opens up for Calum McGregor.
00:21:38Already three goals,
00:21:39the Celtic captain scored this season.
00:21:44I think he'll have been looking forward to this game after having,
00:21:47for the first time in a long time,
00:21:48an actual international break.
00:21:52Engels,
00:21:53maybe for the first time,
00:21:55fails to control the ball and Hartz certainly on the attack now with Vargas.
00:21:58Forward now to Grant,
00:22:00forced out wide against Celtic,
00:22:02hunting for the ball,
00:22:03but he manages to find Vargas,
00:22:04there's space over on the right hand side for Gerald Taylor.
00:22:09Kingsley's wide,
00:22:10but he finds Boateng in the box,
00:22:12he just played it behind Shankland,
00:22:14it's at it.
00:22:16He's out wide for Hartz,
00:22:18again it's where we often see just with that one goal on the break,
00:22:22that they can always carve out an opportunity.
00:22:24Yeah, I think that's the reminder that a second goal is needed before you can,
00:22:29not that you're going to take your foot off the gas,
00:22:32but you know the threat there when it's only 1-0.
00:22:42McGregor orchestrating things in the middle of the park,
00:22:45but it scales,
00:22:46works on now to Maida,
00:22:47to get Taylor ahead of him.
00:22:48Maida cuts inside,
00:22:50races past Taylor,
00:22:51still Maida,
00:22:52challenged again by the Costa Rican,
00:22:54who claims for a foul this time.
00:22:56Taylor gets past Greg Taylor,
00:22:59suddenly he's on the attack,
00:23:00Shankland's wide on the right touchline,
00:23:03lays it for his captain,
00:23:04he cuts inside,
00:23:05not too many options for him,
00:23:07has to play it back to Boateng,
00:23:09and Ngimi's in the middle of the park.
00:23:13Rolls,
00:23:14complete out wide to Penrice,
00:23:15Penrice takes a touch and delivers that one into the box,
00:23:17he's headed away by Scales,
00:23:19a clash of heads there,
00:23:20with Vargas,
00:23:22and in fact Scales is back up,
00:23:23brave play there from the Irishman.
00:23:25Yeah, done brilliant,
00:23:26put his head in right on,
00:23:28right where the boy's boot was.
00:23:31Brave, strong defending.
00:23:33I think we're going to see a couple of changes now,
00:23:35it looks like James Forrest and Paolo Bernardo,
00:23:37coming on.
00:23:39Of course,
00:23:40the manager,
00:23:41already,
00:23:42been thinking of keeping the side fresh,
00:23:44like Gaiman,
00:23:45on Wednesday.
00:23:47So,
00:23:48Nicholas Kuhn,
00:23:50who's had a fine game this afternoon,
00:23:52warm applause,
00:23:53and he'll be replaced by James Forrest,
00:23:55now making his 501st appearance.
00:23:59And Real Hatate,
00:24:01will be replaced by Paolo Bernardo.
00:24:06And again,
00:24:07it just keeps the side as strong as,
00:24:09as it was when it started.
00:24:26Paolo Bernardo scored for the Portuguese under-21s,
00:24:29during the recent international break.
00:24:31Of course,
00:24:32it's a fine game in the derby,
00:24:33victory.
00:24:34He comes on,
00:24:35you can see Callum McGregor there,
00:24:37he's telling the front,
00:24:38four or five,
00:24:39to kind of,
00:24:40to stay away from him,
00:24:41to stay higher.
00:24:49The thing with Wednesday's game is,
00:24:51although,
00:24:52you can bring players on and off,
00:24:54and keep them fresh,
00:24:55it also gives the guys who are coming on,
00:24:57and even the guys who are playing,
00:24:58they know there's a,
00:24:59there's a big European game coming up,
00:25:01they want to be in,
00:25:02involved in those games.
00:25:03There's always a,
00:25:05there's always a carrot for everyone there,
00:25:06every,
00:25:07you can say there's,
00:25:09it's hard to play,
00:25:10two, three games a week,
00:25:11but when they're games of that standard,
00:25:12they're games that everyone wants to be a part of.
00:25:25The ball ends up in the Hart's dugout,
00:25:26but it's a throw-in to Celtic.
00:25:30Almost at the 67th minute mark,
00:25:32and still it's that Arnie Ingold's penalty,
00:25:34the difference between the sides.
00:25:36James Forrest now on the right-hand side,
00:25:38up against Penrice,
00:25:39can drive towards,
00:25:40goal,
00:25:41plays it across the six-yard box,
00:25:42and it's smothered by Greg Gordon,
00:25:44and again it's a dangerous ball.
00:25:46Yeah, great ball,
00:25:47brilliant play from James Forrest there,
00:25:49direct,
00:25:50beats his man,
00:25:51gets the ball in,
00:25:52I don't know,
00:25:53if Keogh had come short previously,
00:25:55he just wasn't there.
00:25:59Okay, Gordon,
00:26:00on his weaker right foot,
00:26:01clears it,
00:26:02up towards the halfway line,
00:26:03Scales gets in ahead of Shankland.
00:26:07Kartavikas battling with Valgas.
00:26:09Yeah, Scales and Kartavikas
00:26:11have been brilliant at that all day,
00:26:12not giving Hart's
00:26:14attackers or strikers a chance at all.
00:26:18Johnson races forward,
00:26:19he's got Ingold's inside,
00:26:21wants to play it to Forrest,
00:26:22now to the Belgian,
00:26:24McGregor's in space.
00:26:29And again, everyone bar Valgas,
00:26:31Hart's back behind the ball.
00:26:38Chance for Maida,
00:26:39edge of the box,
00:26:41gives it to Bernardo.
00:26:46And again Celtic,
00:26:47with the ball,
00:26:48Scales back to Bernardo,
00:26:50Celtic force the player back
00:26:52towards the halfway line.
00:26:55Not expecting the imminent arrival of Adam Ida.
00:26:59Just in the dugout,
00:27:00just making his final preparations,
00:27:02probably for Keogh in replacement.
00:27:05Celtic knocking on the door,
00:27:06looking for a second goal.
00:27:09Forrest again, edge of the box.
00:27:12Tries to flick it through,
00:27:14it's intercepted,
00:27:15the ball played up towards Valgas,
00:27:17tries to spin round Scales.
00:27:20Taylor's back in support,
00:27:22Valgas tries to knock it through,
00:27:24but Taylor gets a touch on it.
00:27:26Gotang is behind him,
00:27:27good play from Greg Taylor.
00:27:29Yeah, great covering back.
00:27:32He's had to do that a few times in this second half.
00:27:50Doesn't look as if Keogh is going to add to the 10 goals he scored against Hearts,
00:27:53although Celtic come again,
00:27:54down the left-hand side.
00:27:55Maida tries to get beyond Taylor,
00:27:57who's done well in the second half against Maida,
00:27:59it has to be said.
00:28:01But he's dispossessed there by Bernardo,
00:28:03hauls him back,
00:28:04but referee waves the advantage and Celtic have the ball.
00:28:12McGregor takes up the play.
00:28:15Suddenly Taylor's made that forward run,
00:28:17Bernardo tries to knock it through.
00:28:20Now it's back into the arms of Craig Gordon.
00:28:23They've had a very successful time here,
00:28:25242 appearances,
00:28:26five leagues, five League Cups and two Scottish Cups.
00:28:30Goes for the Scottish Cup for Hearts as well,
00:28:32looks as if they're going to make a change.
00:28:35Cammy Devlin looks as if he's going to come on.
00:28:40I'm going to put my head in the chop block here,
00:28:42say he'll end up getting booked,
00:28:43because he always ends up getting booked.
00:28:46Hearts have the ball now with Taylor,
00:28:48forward to Shankland,
00:28:49and again too many green and white shots around the Hearts captain.
00:28:54So Hearts about to make a double change as well.
00:28:58I think Hearts will just be looking to bring on a bit of
00:29:01fresh legs that can support them
00:29:05on any sort of breakaway attacks that they're getting.
00:29:11It's a double change,
00:29:12so Kenneth Vargas comes off to be replaced by Moussa Dramme,
00:29:18and Cammy Devlin is going to be coming on as well.
00:29:24So Vargas just makes his way around the touchline,
00:29:27and it looks as if it's going to be George Grant
00:29:30to be replaced by Cammy Devlin.
00:29:36Twenty minutes remaining in this second half,
00:29:40so Kyogo comes off to be replaced by Adelmida.
00:29:55So we've got an Irishman at the back,
00:29:56an Irishman up front,
00:29:57and an Irishman in the gantry.
00:30:01Best one up in the gantry.
00:30:05Adelmida looking
00:30:06Good chance for Ida here.
00:30:08Get a goal,
00:30:09settle everything down from this season.
00:30:12He's come up with a different kind of pressure now
00:30:14with a price tag.
00:30:16I'm sure he'll handle it.
00:30:17He handled this when he came up in January.
00:30:21Looking forward to seeing him here.
00:30:25Hearts player down at the moment,
00:30:26Penrice.
00:30:27What should have happened there?
00:30:29Did he go over?
00:30:32He's got it.
00:30:33Did he go over?
00:30:36He's back on his feet.
00:30:39He's been in,
00:30:40certainly been in the action this afternoon.
00:30:43Yellow carded in the first half,
00:30:45penalised for the handball that led to the Celtic penalty
00:30:48in the second half.
00:30:49Eighty minutes remaining.
00:30:52Hearts are just looking for one opportunity for goal
00:30:55to try and grab an equaliser,
00:30:58but Celtic, of course,
00:30:59looking to try
00:31:01and extend the lead.
00:31:03Make sure that all three points are secure.
00:31:05As Taylor switches it left to right to Johnson,
00:31:07who immediately
00:31:09tries to
00:31:10look for James Forrest.
00:31:11Instead,
00:31:12wants to give it to Callum McGregor.
00:31:20Taylor
00:31:21curls it into the box.
00:31:22It's headed clear.
00:31:24Celtic a different
00:31:25option up front with
00:31:27the opportunity to swing that ball in for Ademir.
00:31:30Yeah, I think we'll see Celtic now start to put
00:31:32balls into the box a lot more
00:31:34earlier in the play.
00:31:37And also there's the thing now of Hearts
00:31:40have a bit more
00:31:42of a go at it.
00:31:44Leaves them open to the break.
00:31:45Anything down the wings, there's going to be pace.
00:31:48And I'm sure
00:31:49Ademir will know that.
00:31:52Again, it's not like he's not a
00:31:53brand new player coming into the team.
00:31:57He knows how the players are.
00:31:58He knows how the game will unfold now.
00:32:04Passing the way forward.
00:32:05Johnson
00:32:07to Forrest
00:32:08into the box.
00:32:10Still James Forrest
00:32:11onto his right foot.
00:32:12Puts it across.
00:32:13Actually,
00:32:14I'm not sure if it hit
00:32:15Alistair Johnson.
00:32:17Back now to Bernardo.
00:32:19Pulls it across to Greg Taylor.
00:32:22Forrest
00:32:24switches it to Taylor.
00:32:27Maida
00:32:28edge of the box.
00:32:29Can Celtic work an opening?
00:32:30Maida skips past one challenge.
00:32:32Back again to Bernardo.
00:32:38Cameron Carter-Vickers
00:32:39tries to clip it through.
00:32:40It's intercepted by
00:32:41Devlin.
00:32:43It's been tracked back by Johnson.
00:32:45Looked a little bit unlucky there.
00:32:54I think he's just too
00:32:55strong.
00:32:57Just shows him, but that's
00:32:59his first thought is
00:33:01going at the ball back.
00:33:03He's not afraid to
00:33:04to play the ball back.
00:33:06He's not afraid to
00:33:07play the ball back.
00:33:09He's not afraid to
00:33:10play the ball back.
00:33:11He's not afraid to
00:33:12play the ball back.
00:33:13He's not afraid to
00:33:14put his body in
00:33:15and press and help
00:33:17help out defending.
00:33:18Similar to what you were saying.
00:33:19The last free kick,
00:33:20it's just inside the hearts
00:33:21half again.
00:33:22They're just going to launch this one.
00:33:23Yeah, I think any sort
00:33:24of free kick from
00:33:26anywhere outside of the box
00:33:27that's not a goal kick
00:33:28is going to be
00:33:30treated as a
00:33:31as a long free kick.
00:33:33Ball played up towards
00:33:34the far post.
00:33:35It's headed in there.
00:33:37Scales wins the head up.
00:33:39Halkett just cushions that
00:33:40one to Kingsley.
00:33:41Trying to get it back on to his left foot.
00:33:45Still harps at the edge of the box.
00:33:47Now with Devlin.
00:33:50Slack pass, and suddenly Celtic have the play.
00:33:53Bernardo tries to clip it forward, Rose gets the header on it.
00:33:56Celtic trying to get their foot on that one,
00:33:58Cammy Devlin battling for that.
00:34:00Scales this time, clears it.
00:34:03And Engels just opens up his body, and suddenly Celtic have space.
00:34:06Johnson drives forward, Eders out wide, Maeders through the middle.
00:34:10Forrest is on the left at the moment, the Canadian still driving forward.
00:34:13Tries to thread that one through.
00:34:16Picked up by Harps.
00:34:20Ta'aramira made a great run there for Johnson,
00:34:23maybe it's just a little bit too tight for him to try to pass.
00:34:26There's Eder, holds off the attention of Shankland,
00:34:29tries to play that one through towards Forrest.
00:34:32Thought he would have gone himself, but suddenly Maringame is driving forward,
00:34:35Harps not too many options.
00:34:38Finds Devlin, he just holds up the play,
00:34:41rolls it out right to Gerald Taylor.
00:34:43Taylor drives towards the edge of the box, tries to slide it through.
00:34:47Cameron Carter-Vickers gets there ahead of Shankland,
00:34:51it's a throw-in right at the corner flag.
00:34:55Again there's a Harps player down, looks like Beningi.
00:34:58The play beginning to open up a wee bit in these last 15 minutes or so.
00:35:02Yeah, I think now indeed, this last 15 minutes,
00:35:05there's any chance Harps get to go forward,
00:35:07they're going to get sucked in, they know they need a goal.
00:35:09They'll push forward a little bit,
00:35:11I think that's the crucial time when Celtic win it back to hit them.
00:35:15Harps are going to be tired,
00:35:17the last thing they want to do, they're pushing forward
00:35:19and then they know they have to run back the other way.
00:35:21Especially the likes of Maeda down this side,
00:35:24and James Forrest fresh on, Adam Ida on.
00:35:30I think it can really open the game up for Celtic here in this last 10-15 minutes.
00:35:36It could be that Harps may have to make another change,
00:35:39I can tell you elsewhere this afternoon,
00:35:41it's 2-0 to Hibernia at Easter Road,
00:35:43it's 1-0 to Aberdeen against Motherwell at Petaudry.
00:35:46Two apiece at Paisley between St Mirren and Tenman,
00:35:49Koemanuk and Ross County are beating Dundee by two goals to nil.
00:35:54Of course the other game in the Premiership is tomorrow at Tanadice,
00:35:58Dundee United against Rangers,
00:36:00and here at Celtic Park at the moment it's that Arnie Engels penalty,
00:36:03six minutes into the second half,
00:36:05the difference between the sides,
00:36:07so it looks like Benengemi could be coming off,
00:36:10and it looks as if Jan Dander is coming on,
00:36:14and I think James Forrest's brother,
00:36:17Alan Forrest could be the other substitute as well,
00:36:20so a couple of attacking options for Stephen Naismith
00:36:24as we get into the latter stages of the game.
00:36:26Again another long throw coming here that Celtic need to deal with.
00:36:34Jan Dander.
00:36:37Makes his way up to the edge of the box,
00:36:39so once more Gerald Taylor is going to launch this one into the area,
00:36:42only James Forrest has stayed outside a defensive position,
00:36:46so Celtic having to defend this set-piece as the ball is launched towards the near post.
00:36:52Scales again did well,
00:36:54it's picked up by Maida, Maida's first touch is good,
00:36:57it's closed down, runs into too many maroon shirts there,
00:37:01danger averted, it's cleared deep into Harp's territory.
00:37:05Taylor's done well physically to match Maida.
00:37:13Dander hooks it over his head,
00:37:15it's back with Celtic, all the way back to Kasper Schmeichel.
00:37:20Not too much to do, just a couple of shots on target from Lauren Shankland,
00:37:24which she dealt with comfortably.
00:37:26I know it was forced with true injury,
00:37:29but the fact it brought Dander on in place,
00:37:32it shows Harp's maybe going a little bit more attack-minded.
00:37:35But it's Celtic on the attack now with Maida,
00:37:37Maida plays a low, it just goes behind Maida,
00:37:40that was a good ball again from Maida with his left foot.
00:37:47Carter-Vickers did well defensively there.
00:37:51Probably for the first time in the game it's quite stretched
00:37:54on both sides when they're attacking,
00:37:56they're finding a wee bit of space.
00:38:00It's going to be another double change,
00:38:02it's going to be Luis Palmer on for Dyson Maida.
00:38:07And Luke McCown.
00:38:10So actually...
00:38:13McCown coming on for Arne Engels.
00:38:18So the goal scorer,
00:38:20and the goal scorer,
00:38:22and the goal scorer,
00:38:24and the goal scorer,
00:38:27so the goal scorer gets a cheer.
00:38:31Harp's about to make a double change,
00:38:33it's going to be Blair Spittle and Alan Forrest to come on.
00:38:47So Luke McCown takes his place in midfield
00:38:49alongside Paulo Bernardo and Callum McGregor.
00:38:57So Lauren Shankland goes off.
00:39:02So the two Forrest brothers are on now.
00:39:06And Harp's taking an eternity just to get the captain's armband
00:39:10back to Craig Gordon.
00:39:17And again a few, you mentioned Dander coming on,
00:39:20Alan Forrest, Blair Spittle,
00:39:22they're all players that get a good attack in front.
00:39:25Yeah, I think it's a hard to last throw with a dice here.
00:39:30They might try and create a bit more from open play,
00:39:34attacking wise.
00:39:44We're inside the last ten minutes of the game here
00:39:48at a very wet Celtic Park,
00:39:50and still that penalty,
00:39:51the difference between the sides,
00:39:53Celtic leading by a goal to nil,
00:39:55McCown battling for that one,
00:39:56but Dander picks up the loose ball,
00:39:58it's knocked out to the left-hand side,
00:40:00Devlin fires it through,
00:40:02takes a touch, comes off Bernardo,
00:40:04Dander couldn't get an opening,
00:40:06but it's worked out wide to Taylor.
00:40:09Taylor skips past two challenges, he slips there,
00:40:11Bernardo gets a touch,
00:40:13but Rouse steps in ahead of Ida,
00:40:15the ball out of play.
00:40:20Palmer gets his first touch,
00:40:22still Louise Palmer.
00:40:24Back now to Taylor,
00:40:26switches it left to right,
00:40:28to Johnson,
00:40:29Johnson taken off his toes by Blair Spital,
00:40:32Spital, edge of the box.
00:40:36Kingsley goes to support,
00:40:37but he plays it low,
00:40:38and it's a chance, and it's saved!
00:40:40Well, that was a real opportunity for Hearts there,
00:40:43the substitute.
00:40:44Drame, he'll be disappointed,
00:40:46he couldn't get a connection,
00:40:47it was a dangerous ball into the box,
00:40:49and Celtic breathe a sigh of relief.
00:40:51Yeah, I don't think any reminder was needed,
00:40:55that 1-0, it's always a dangerous scoreline,
00:40:58Alistair Johnson maybe just a little bit slack there,
00:41:02giving them a chance,
00:41:03and I think that's what Hearts are
00:41:07preying on,
00:41:08are some sloppiness and mistakes,
00:41:10Celtic can't afford it.
00:41:13You can see now Hearts are really
00:41:15going full press up,
00:41:16it's going to open the game right up for Celtic,
00:41:18I think they just need to
00:41:19play around it and then get into the final third,
00:41:22where Hearts don't have the whole box
00:41:24compact.
00:41:31Kasper Speichel dealt with that ball,
00:41:33Drame didn't get a good connection on it,
00:41:35but it was a good delivery into the box from Blair Spital,
00:41:37just invaded Cameron Carter-Vickers,
00:41:39and a real chance for Hearts to grab an equaliser.
00:41:45With just about seven minutes remaining,
00:41:47and they're certainly going for it,
00:41:48Steven Nace withside,
00:41:50Taylor plays that one forward,
00:41:51looking for Palma,
00:41:52Palma racing forward,
00:41:53Halkin should get there ahead of him,
00:41:56and he does,
00:41:57there's it to Taylor,
00:41:58Taylor knocks it inside,
00:41:59but he's given it away,
00:42:00it's Bernardo, Bernardo to McEwan,
00:42:01McEwan clips it across,
00:42:03looking for Forrest,
00:42:04it's headed away,
00:42:06over on that far side,
00:42:08Johnson challenges Dander,
00:42:11Hearts almost setting up a chance for Celtic.
00:42:18I was about to actually praise Taylor
00:42:20for his second-half performance for Hearts,
00:42:22and then he just gave the ball to Bernardo.
00:42:24Probably tired from running after my idol again.
00:42:35Well, it's been a dominant performance for Celtic,
00:42:37but maybe a wee bit more tense in these closing stages
00:42:42than we would have liked.
00:42:43Yeah, probably more than it needed to be.
00:42:46They've all played across,
00:42:47looking for McEwan,
00:42:48breaks towards Ida,
00:42:49just got a touch on it,
00:42:50Forrest nicks it off the toes of Devlin,
00:42:53still Forrest,
00:42:55to Ida,
00:42:57back now to McGregor,
00:42:59to Taylor,
00:43:00and again,
00:43:01it suddenly becomes very crowded
00:43:03on the edge of that penalty area.
00:43:05Still Celtic have the ball up where they want it,
00:43:08back to their captain,
00:43:09switches it across to Bernardo.
00:43:15I think you can feel everyone's just angsty
00:43:17for that second goal.
00:43:46We just need another goal to settle their nerves up
00:43:49in this gantry position, to be fair.
00:43:51Yeah, last few minutes have been better for Celtic.
00:43:54Hearts had a little bit of confidence there
00:43:56for maybe five minutes.
00:43:59You can see Cameron Carter-Vickers,
00:44:01a hand of apology there,
00:44:02he was frustrated himself,
00:44:03it's very rare you see him playing a wayward pass
00:44:06into the arms of Craig Gordon,
00:44:07who just launches it long,
00:44:09Luke McEwan,
00:44:11great pass,
00:44:12he's fouled there by Cammy Devlin.
00:44:18Foul on the halfway line.
00:44:29Calum McGregor over the ball.
00:44:35Rolls it across to Scales,
00:44:36Scales can work it out wide,
00:44:38again to Palma,
00:44:39he's got space,
00:44:40he's got Taylor ahead of him.
00:44:41Palma's first touch allows
00:44:43Gerald Taylor to take it off his toes.
00:44:45Down the line,
00:44:46Scales read that one well.
00:44:52Scales,
00:44:53he's got it,
00:44:54he's got it,
00:44:55he's got it,
00:44:57hand of apology for Palma.
00:45:00Throw in to Hartz in front of
00:45:02their own technical area.
00:45:05Both managers shouting instructions
00:45:07to get to that tense time in the game.
00:45:12Celtic leading by a goal to nil,
00:45:14just need to keep it tight at the back.
00:45:17You can see Calum McGregor
00:45:19just shouting instructions to his teammates,
00:45:21the ball's launched down the line,
00:45:22Taylor challenges for that one.
00:45:24Carter Vickers
00:45:25trying to head that one away,
00:45:27Devlin picks it up,
00:45:28it's Kingsley,
00:45:29plays it over to the far post,
00:45:31Taylor challenges,
00:45:33it's McGregor,
00:45:34good defensive play from the Celtic captain,
00:45:36launches it up to the halfway line,
00:45:38Rolls is the first to react,
00:45:40McCown goes to press Halkett.
00:45:45Hartz have opened up a bit of space,
00:45:47Kingsley down that left-hand side,
00:45:49plays it forward to Spittle,
00:45:50he's on the edge of the area,
00:45:52plays it across,
00:45:53Scales does well to head that one clear.
00:45:57Halkett,
00:45:58Hartz showing attacking intent.
00:46:01Johnson knocks that one up towards the halfway line.
00:46:06The ball is coming back at the moment to Celtic
00:46:08inside the last three minutes,
00:46:10plus added time.
00:46:12You can see Hartz are also getting a little bit of confidence
00:46:15from any sort of sloppiness that Celtic are showing.
00:46:24Certainly going for it now.
00:46:29It's now with Dander,
00:46:31to Spittle.
00:46:34Cross is blocked,
00:46:35McGregor heads it clear,
00:46:36McCown gives it to Bernardo,
00:46:38still McCown,
00:46:40plays it back inside,
00:46:41good ball to Eder.
00:46:43Still McCown,
00:46:44brilliant.
00:46:46Suddenly Celtic on the attack now with Palmer,
00:46:48he's got James Forrest out wide,
00:46:50he's got Eder through the middle,
00:46:52gives it to Forrest.
00:46:54Still James Forrest,
00:46:55he's got McCown in the edge of the box,
00:46:56can roll it back to the former Dundee player.
00:47:00He's scored,
00:47:01his first goal for Celtic!
00:47:03Look, McCown,
00:47:04he's living the dream,
00:47:06and he's scored for Celtic to give the point
00:47:09to Brendan Rogers' side,
00:47:11both of the new boys on target.
00:47:14Well,
00:47:15he must have dreamt this as a youngster,
00:47:16as a Celtic fan.
00:47:19Yeah, brilliant, brilliant play.
00:47:21He deserved it after the little bit of skill in the middle,
00:47:23he had a bit of composure,
00:47:24beat a few players,
00:47:25laid it off,
00:47:27kept going,
00:47:28followed up the play.
00:47:30Looked like a great finish,
00:47:31in off the post I think.
00:47:33Brilliant goal.
00:47:35Well, it did come about,
00:47:36he started it,
00:47:37and he finished it.
00:47:39Well, you saw that run from Eder there,
00:47:41looking for the ball,
00:47:43James Forrest to provide it again,
00:47:44and look, McCown with his first goal for Celtic,
00:47:47took a touch,
00:47:48and then played it.
00:47:50Touch from Greg Gordon,
00:47:52but a great finish,
00:47:53and a wonderful moment for him.
00:47:55Yeah, brilliant for Luke.
00:47:57I know him from my time at Dundee,
00:47:58he'll be delighted.
00:48:01Deserved his move here,
00:48:03deserves his goal after that.
00:48:06I'm looking forward to see how he kicks on.
00:48:11Well, he's already indicated when he came,
00:48:13he's obviously,
00:48:14he's at the club,
00:48:15he's always supported,
00:48:16but he's not here just to wear that jersey,
00:48:17he's here to make his mark,
00:48:19and what a great way to make a mark,
00:48:21with a goal.
00:48:22Yeah, definitely, definitely.
00:48:23He's not,
00:48:25he's a fan,
00:48:26but he's also a good player as well.
00:48:28A very good player,
00:48:29so he's some,
00:48:30like I say,
00:48:31I'm looking forward to see how he,
00:48:32how he goes on,
00:48:33and kicks on.
00:48:37Well, it looks like it could be five minutes,
00:48:39added time.
00:48:42Eight minutes actually,
00:48:43I think I'm hearing.
00:48:44That's a long time,
00:48:45that's a long time.
00:48:47The ball out of play,
00:48:48and Celtic have the throw-in,
00:48:49they lead by two goals,
00:48:502-0.
00:48:51There'll be eight added minutes.
00:48:57That must have been a,
00:48:58an awful home flat check for that penalty.
00:49:02I suppose a couple of Hearts players
00:49:03had gone down as well,
00:49:04and there has been a few changes,
00:49:05but Celtic have the second goal.
00:49:06I feel like there's been about ten,
00:49:07I feel like there's been about ten subs made as well.
00:49:10I'm glad that we're winning 2-0
00:49:11with eight added minutes,
00:49:12I think my nerves would have been shredded
00:49:13if it was just a one.
00:49:16Again, that's what was needed,
00:49:17just a little bit of,
00:49:19composure and skill,
00:49:20bit of sharpness,
00:49:23get up the field and then,
00:49:25shooting as well.
00:49:28Palmer,
00:49:29cuts inside,
00:49:30Taylor's there,
00:49:31Taylor,
00:49:32leaves it for Bernardo,
00:49:33Bernardo,
00:49:34too many men round him,
00:49:36he's battling for that one,
00:49:37McCown,
00:49:39does well again,
00:49:40as does Palmer,
00:49:41good play there from Luis Palmer,
00:49:42Celtic have the ball back.
00:49:46We've got the two goals,
00:49:47they now want the clean sheet,
00:49:50so,
00:49:51the ball back,
00:49:53with Celtic,
00:49:54keeping possession now,
00:49:55the man who scores the second goal,
00:49:57and again for the two players,
00:49:58Luke McCown and Arnie Engels,
00:50:00to score their first goals for Celtic,
00:50:02and not only that,
00:50:03Arnie Engels,
00:50:04as the stadium man in the match,
00:50:05here comes Celtic again with Taylor,
00:50:06Taylor across for Ida!
00:50:09Adam Ida!
00:50:10He's off and running for the Newcastle Reds!
00:50:12Adam Ida!
00:50:13He's off and running for the new season,
00:50:15and that is classic Adam Ida goal,
00:50:18Palmer,
00:50:19Taylor,
00:50:20Ida,
00:50:21goal,
00:50:22three points.
00:50:23Yeah, brilliant goal,
00:50:24everything about it,
00:50:25that's the play that we were expecting
00:50:27to happen a little bit earlier in the second half,
00:50:31I think those kind of chances
00:50:32were always going to present themselves to him,
00:50:34the way the match was,
00:50:37came a little bit later
00:50:38than probably he would have liked as well,
00:50:39but,
00:50:40brilliant, brilliant goal,
00:50:41great run,
00:50:42great finish,
00:50:43Palmer,
00:50:44brilliant pass,
00:50:46to the ball,
00:50:47to Taylor,
00:50:48to Ida,
00:50:49well,
00:50:50that's a great,
00:50:51great finish,
00:50:52that's,
00:50:53brilliant goal,
00:50:54that's something,
00:50:55that's when you're doing shooting drills in training,
00:50:56and you're doing attacking and crossing,
00:50:57it's,
00:50:58it's exactly patterns of play like that,
00:51:00it's passages like that,
00:51:01out wide,
00:51:02first time,
00:51:03a runner coming in,
00:51:04and then the striker can time their movement off that,
00:51:06brilliant goal.
00:51:08And is that when the,
00:51:10a striker,
00:51:11you're making those runs in the hope that that,
00:51:13you know the ball's in that area then?
00:51:15Yeah,
00:51:16you're kind of,
00:51:17you can see the play building up,
00:51:18you can watch it,
00:51:19you know,
00:51:20okay,
00:51:21he's making the run in there,
00:51:22I'll time my run,
00:51:23as a striker.
00:51:32Well,
00:51:33they're checking for offside,
00:51:34I'm not sure who would have been off,
00:51:35I don't remember,
00:51:36possibly Ida,
00:51:38well I'd need to see that again,
00:51:40well,
00:51:41the ball's been rolled up,
00:51:42it had to have been Greg Taylor,
00:51:43because,
00:51:44when Ida took the ball,
00:51:46he was behind the man,
00:51:49well,
00:51:50Adam Ida denied there,
00:51:57or is it Palma must be offside,
00:51:59my goodness,
00:52:01well we haven't seen the lines again,
00:52:03Taylor's definitely onside,
00:52:04Adam Ida's onside,
00:52:05so it must be,
00:52:06Palma,
00:52:07Luis Palma,
00:52:09well,
00:52:10he's going to have to explain to Adam Ida,
00:52:11he's denied him his first goal of the new season,
00:52:14and it was such a good goal as well,
00:52:15still a great goal,
00:52:17it just doesn't count,
00:52:21yeah,
00:52:22a little bit sloppy from Palma being offside,
00:52:23and from that position,
00:52:28denied a third goal,
00:52:29as the ball's fired into the area,
00:52:31a touch from Garter Vickers,
00:52:33and Kasper Schmeichel,
00:52:35Slade to Gartner,
00:52:38I think he's making the most of every save he gets to make,
00:52:42well that's so tight,
00:52:44that's his,
00:52:46right heel,
00:52:48my goodness,
00:52:55Celtic denied a third goal,
00:52:58but they have the two,
00:53:02and they have the three points,
00:53:04in the bag,
00:53:08Taylor,
00:53:10set up that chance to scales,
00:53:12knocks it to Alan Forrest,
00:53:14tries forward,
00:53:16plays it across,
00:53:17but McCown intercepts,
00:53:18and Celtic have possession back,
00:53:20with their captain,
00:53:29Johnson plays it forward,
00:53:30goes out for a throw in,
00:53:31Celtic edging,
00:53:33with just about three of those,
00:53:37eight added minutes left,
00:53:39two goals,
00:53:41and the end goes,
00:53:43with the penalty,
00:53:44McCown,
00:53:45with that strike,
00:53:46with a couple of minutes remaining,
00:53:47of the 90,
00:53:53Ademir denied,
00:53:54his first goal of the new season,
00:53:55by the offside flag,
00:53:57penalising Luis Palma,
00:54:04still going forward,
00:54:05looking for,
00:54:07what might be a consolation now,
00:54:08or just to put some pressure on Celtic,
00:54:10in the last couple of minutes,
00:54:11when scales took a touch,
00:54:12but couldn't find Bernardo,
00:54:14Palma does well,
00:54:16Celtic come again,
00:54:18close that one forward,
00:54:19looking for James Forrest,
00:54:21good first touch from Forrest,
00:54:22Forrest driving towards goal,
00:54:24still James Forrest,
00:54:25plays it,
00:54:26into the arms of Craig Gordon,
00:54:28I think as soon as he received it,
00:54:30it was all in his head,
00:54:31just go wide,
00:54:32it was all in his head,
00:54:33just go one on one,
00:54:34and get a shot off,
00:54:35Ademir has made a brilliant run,
00:54:36up to support him,
00:54:41but I can't really blame,
00:54:43blame James Forrest,
00:54:44for the option he took,
00:54:46he's done well to get into the position,
00:54:48great ball from Luis Palma as well,
00:54:52on the attack,
00:54:53the spittle,
00:54:55plays it towards the,
00:54:57edge of the six yard box,
00:54:59cross,
00:55:00short I think,
00:55:02he was trying to clear that back,
00:55:04the hearts have won their first corner,
00:55:05of the second half,
00:55:07with very little time remaining,
00:55:09spittles look dangerous,
00:55:10when he's come on actually,
00:55:11former Motherwell player,
00:55:12set up that real chance,
00:55:14for hearts when it was 1-0,
00:55:16yeah I think it suited,
00:55:17the hearts players who came on,
00:55:18the way hearts changed,
00:55:20and set up,
00:55:21it probably suited them as well,
00:55:23ball played low,
00:55:24and Callum McGregor heads it clear,
00:55:26looks like he's in sprints for that one,
00:55:27he'll get there ahead of,
00:55:28Cami Devlin,
00:55:30switches it across,
00:55:31looking to try and find,
00:55:32James Forrest,
00:55:34as Forrest and McGregor,
00:55:35are pressing this ball,
00:55:37former team mate Craig Gordon,
00:55:42Alan Forrest picks up the loose ball,
00:55:44his hearts,
00:55:46still striding forward,
00:55:47inside the last 60 seconds,
00:55:48of the eight minutes,
00:55:50challenge there,
00:55:52and Alistair Johnson,
00:55:54applauds as Kasper Schmeichel,
00:55:55smothers the ball,
00:55:57Celtic will see this game out,
00:56:00Tottenham offside,
00:56:01originally at the very start,
00:56:02of all that,
00:56:15counting down,
00:56:16and Celtic,
00:56:17about to make it five wins,
00:56:19out of five,
00:56:22without conceding a goal either,
00:56:23but could it be,
00:56:24a third goal,
00:56:25Palma this time stays onside,
00:56:27knocks it off Taylor,
00:56:28and again,
00:56:29the Costa Rican,
00:56:30plays it out,
00:56:31for a corner,
00:56:32so Celtic may get a chance,
00:56:33to take this set piece,
00:56:39no great hurry,
00:56:43Palma on the ball,
00:56:44scales is pushed up,
00:56:49Palma just knocks it to Forrest,
00:56:52plays it across now to McCown,
00:56:54this time he curls over the bar,
00:56:56won't forgive him that,
00:56:57he's already got his goal,
00:57:00I don't know maybe,
00:57:01if he was in two minds,
00:57:02over having a shot,
00:57:04or trying to clip it,
00:57:05to the back post,
00:57:12we're over the eight added minutes,
00:57:15just do that,
00:57:16bar check,
00:57:17for the offside,
00:57:18it's the Carter Vickers,
00:57:21he's penalised for a foul there,
00:57:23and Harts will have one last chance,
00:57:24just to swing the ball,
00:57:25into the box,
00:57:26we're almost out of time,
00:57:27we are,
00:57:28into the ninth,
00:57:30added minute,
00:57:33Carter Vickers and Liam Scales,
00:57:34have been brilliant,
00:57:35at that all game,
00:57:38really pressing any balls,
00:57:39that went up to the strikers,
00:57:41they've had to,
00:57:43focus on it for the full 90,
00:57:4590 plus minutes,
00:57:50the ball delivered,
00:57:51into the box,
00:57:53it's gone behind,
00:57:55and it will be a goal kick,
00:57:56and I'm sure,
00:57:57that will be,
00:57:59just about the last action,
00:58:02the referee indeed,
00:58:03points to the tunnel area,
00:58:05and Celtic,
00:58:06make it five,
00:58:07wins,
00:58:08in a row,
00:58:11Luke McCowan,
00:58:12delighted,
00:58:13getting the congratulations,
00:58:14of his captain,
00:58:16Celtic with those two,
00:58:18second half goals,
00:58:20also,
00:58:21as the fifth game,
00:58:22that Celtic have gone,
00:58:23with a clean sheet,
00:58:25it's the first time,
00:58:28that that's happened,
00:58:29since 1906,
00:58:32that a Celtic team has,
00:58:34played their opening five,
00:58:35league games,
00:58:36without conceding a goal,
00:58:37which shows you just how hard,
00:58:38it is to do,
00:58:39which is credit,
00:58:40we always talk about the attacking,
00:58:42performances of Celtic,
00:58:43but it just shows you how,
00:58:44well they are defensively as well,
00:58:45yeah,
00:58:46and you've done well to hold off,
00:58:47mentioning that until,
00:58:49I didn't want to do so,
00:58:52no like I said already,
00:58:53Liam Scales and Carter Vickers,
00:58:55especially,
00:58:56I know the whole,
00:58:57the whole back line kind of,
00:58:58treats themselves all as one,
00:59:00but the two of them,
00:59:01I thought were brilliant,
00:59:02any ball coming up,
00:59:03they were winning them,
00:59:04they were starting attacks,
00:59:05straight away,
00:59:06and there's nothing worse than,
00:59:07if you're playing up front,
00:59:08on your own,
00:59:10away here,
00:59:11and you're running about,
00:59:13all game,
00:59:14not really getting much,
00:59:15and then eventually,
00:59:16a ball comes up to you,
00:59:17and you've got them,
00:59:18ratting you about,
00:59:19and pressing you,
00:59:20and you're never getting,
00:59:21you're never getting a second rest,
00:59:23so those two,
00:59:24especially,
00:59:25I thought in the,
00:59:27in the back line,
00:59:28were brilliant.
00:59:29Well,
00:59:30so much for Brendan Rodgers,
00:59:31to be pleased with,
00:59:32not least the fact that,
00:59:33you know,
00:59:34we spoke about,
00:59:35you mentioned it,
00:59:36right at halftime,
00:59:37Arnie Angles has had a,
00:59:38a great game,
00:59:39caps it with that cool penalty,
00:59:40man of the match,
00:59:41then Luke McCown comes on,
00:59:42scores his first goal as well,
00:59:43which,
00:59:44shows the strength of the bench.
00:59:45Yeah,
00:59:46brilliant,
00:59:47and it's good for Luke as well,
00:59:48he'll come in,
00:59:49and he'll,
00:59:50hopefully realise that he's,
00:59:52happy to be here,
00:59:53he can now kick on,
00:59:54and,
00:59:55and show himself,
00:59:57why he is here,
00:59:58and he deserves to be here,
00:59:59and,
01:00:00and become a Celtic player.
01:00:03Well,
01:00:04you can see how pleased,
01:00:05the Celtic players are,
01:00:06for the two,
01:00:07new guys that have,
01:00:08scored,
01:00:10and has given Celtic,
01:00:12a 2-0 victory,
01:00:13a well deserved victory,
01:00:14there could have been more,
01:00:15if Adam Ida's goal had stood,
01:00:17but,
01:00:18I don't think MD,
01:00:19I don't think MD apart from,
01:00:20Stephen Neesmith,
01:00:21will complain about the result.
01:00:23No,
01:00:24I think it's,
01:00:252-0 was deserved,
01:00:26it was probably thought,
01:00:27it was going to be a bit more,
01:00:28when they scored so early on,
01:00:29in the second half,
01:00:30and,
01:00:31there was a period there,
01:00:32where it looked like,
01:00:33it was going to be that way,
01:00:34then probably,
01:00:35a change of,
01:00:36there was a lot of changes,
01:00:37in the game,
01:00:38Hearts made a lot of subs,
01:00:39Celtic made a lot of subs,
01:00:40Hearts probably changed,
01:00:41their approach a little bit,
01:00:43got a little bit of,
01:00:44of confidence through,
01:00:46a little bit of sloppiness,
01:00:47creeping into Celtic,
01:00:49but then again,
01:00:50that's when you,
01:00:51you lean on,
01:00:52on the defence,
01:00:53being alert,
01:00:54and being ready,
01:00:55and not kind of,
01:00:56not conceding anything,
01:00:57and then it gives the team,
01:00:58the basis to go,
01:01:00stay in the games,
01:01:01keep it at 1-0,
01:01:02and then kill it off at 2-0,
01:01:03and then,
01:01:04unluckily not,
01:01:05not to be 3-0.
01:01:07Well the Celtic fans who,
01:01:09braved the weather today,
01:01:10were treated to another victory,
01:01:12another clean sheet for Casper Schmeichel,
01:01:15another three points for Celtic,
01:01:17they now,
01:01:18will turn their attentions,
01:01:19to the Champions League,
01:01:20Wednesday night,
01:01:21Sloven Bratislava,
01:01:22the visitors here,
01:01:23to Celtic Park,
01:01:24but we shall hand you,
01:01:25back to the,
01:01:26the warm and dry studio,
01:01:28to Dale and Peter,
01:01:29as it finishes here,
01:01:30at the home of the champions,
01:01:31Celtic 2,
01:01:32Hearts 0.
01:01:34Thanks Paul,
01:01:35and Killian,
01:01:36a fine debut for Killian Sheridan,
01:01:38on Celtic TV commentary,
01:01:40you can be welcome back,
01:01:41any time,
01:01:42a 2-0 win for Celtic,
01:01:43it is,
01:01:44warm and dry,
01:01:45Peter in this studio,
01:01:46but,
01:01:47Celtic,
01:01:48they huffed and puffed,
01:01:49they played well,
01:01:50in parts as well,
01:01:51but they,
01:01:52they finally broke that,
01:01:53Hearts rear guard,
01:01:54in the second half,
01:01:55it came through a penalty,
01:01:56of course,
01:01:57but,
01:01:58that was,
01:01:59the perfect second half,
01:02:00in a way,
01:02:01and a fine performance,
01:02:02in all.
01:02:03Yes,
01:02:04it wasn't as fluid a performance,
01:02:05as we've had this season,
01:02:06that's for sure,
01:02:07and it's difficult,
01:02:08always coming back,
01:02:09after an international break,
01:02:10when the boys are away,
01:02:11no matter how much anybody,
01:02:12wants to say anything different,
01:02:13it is slightly different,
01:02:14in the build up,
01:02:15where people come back,
01:02:16a different day,
01:02:17and Brendan spoke about it earlier,
01:02:18that two boys just came back yesterday,
01:02:19so all these things,
01:02:20but it all played a big part,
01:02:21and we said yet again,
01:02:22Schmeichel's not had much to do,
01:02:23since he's come into the club,
01:02:24but he's made a magnificent save,
01:02:25I think the boys should score,
01:02:26he's not got a great contact on it,
01:02:27but positionally,
01:02:28he's in the right position,
01:02:29and that is a fantastic save,
01:02:30and that's what Celtic goalkeepers do,
01:02:31that concentration level,
01:02:32we spoke about prior to the match,
01:02:33talking about Kasper,
01:02:34and that becomes a massive save for us,
01:02:35because then we've got,
01:02:36a fantastic save,
01:02:37and that's what Celtic goalkeepers do,
01:02:38that concentration level,
01:02:39we spoke about prior to the match,
01:02:40talking about Kasper,
01:02:41and that becomes a massive save for us,
01:02:42because then we've got,
01:02:43Luke thankfully,
01:02:44and rightfully gets his goal,
01:02:45because he's done really well again,
01:02:46when he came on in the game,
01:02:47he won the ball back,
01:02:48he made the right pass,
01:02:49then he gets on the end of it,
01:02:50James picks him out,
01:02:51and he's a fantastic finish,
01:02:52so absolutely delighted for him,
01:02:53the young man,
01:02:54being a Celtic supporter,
01:02:55scoring a goal at Celtic Park,
01:02:56all the things that dreams are made of.
01:02:57Yeah,
01:02:58I was just going to say that,
01:02:59Peter,
01:03:00you are a midfielder,
01:03:01in your day,
01:03:02Celtic fan,
01:03:03Celtic through and through,
01:03:04and you're a Celtic fan,
01:03:05what would that moment have felt like,
01:03:06for Luke McEwan,
01:03:07when he stroked that ball into the net?
01:03:08Indescribable,
01:03:09you know,
01:03:10mine was away at Erdrie,
01:03:11I remember,
01:03:12that was local for me,
01:03:13at that particular time,
01:03:14but for this boy,
01:03:15getting his goal here,
01:03:16I always remember my first one here as well,
01:03:17and,
01:03:18but just,
01:03:19putting the jerseys on,
01:03:20brilliant,
01:03:21but to score,
01:03:22and the fans,
01:03:23you hear the fans roaring,
01:03:24and whatever,
01:03:25it was something special,
01:03:26and it's something I'll live on forever more,
01:03:27no matter what happens in his career,
01:03:28his debut,
01:03:29getting his first goal,
01:03:30it's something special,
01:03:31and it's something I'll live on forever more,
01:03:32no matter what happens in his career,
01:03:33his debut,
01:03:34getting his first goal for Celtic,
01:03:35these are all big moments for him,
01:03:36you know,
01:03:37I'm delighted for him,
01:03:38because,
01:03:39he's got it late in his career,
01:03:40but it just shows you what hard work,
01:03:41graft,
01:03:42determination,
01:03:43gets you in a game of football,
01:03:44and,
01:03:45the team done that today,
01:03:46it was more of a graft,
01:03:47than the quality we've seen,
01:03:48but as I say,
01:03:49that's why the big players step up,
01:03:50I thought Scales was excellent at the back line,
01:03:52I know he never had much to do,
01:03:54but what he had to do,
01:03:55he'd done it fantastically well,
01:03:56won his headers,
01:03:57important headers,
01:03:58and Schmeichel saves,
01:03:59it was what we spoke about,
01:04:00it was so important,
01:04:01so,
01:04:02all round,
01:04:03delighted,
01:04:04it could have been,
01:04:05as I say,
01:04:06more,
01:04:07but,
01:04:08delighted to win the game.
01:04:09Well you can see there,
01:04:10the dominance,
01:04:11I suppose,
01:04:12in parts for Celtic,
01:04:1370% possession,
01:04:1418 shots,
01:04:15on goal,
01:04:16six on target,
01:04:17the three points are,
01:04:18deservably,
01:04:19staying here in paradise,
01:04:20Peter.
01:04:21Yes,
01:04:22Steve and Ray Smith will come out and say,
01:04:23about the penalty kick,
01:04:24but they always say,
01:04:25if your hands away from your body,
01:04:26in a situation like that,
01:04:27it's a penalty kick,
01:04:28there's no getting away from that,
01:04:29the first one,
01:04:30as we say,
01:04:31it's a penalty kick,
01:04:32it's a penalty kick,
01:04:33it's a penalty kick,
01:04:34it's a penalty kick,
01:04:35it's a penalty kick,
01:04:36it's a penalty kick,
01:04:37it's a penalty kick,
01:04:38it's a penalty kick,
01:04:39it's a penalty kick,
01:04:40it's a penalty kick,
01:04:41it's a penalty kick,
01:04:42it's a penalty kick,
01:04:43it's a penalty kick,
01:04:44it's a penalty kick,
01:04:45it's a penalty kick,
01:04:46it's a penalty kick,
01:04:47it's a penalty kick,
01:04:48it's a penalty kick,
01:04:49it's a penalty kick,
01:04:50it's a penalty kick,
01:04:51it's a penalty kick,
01:04:52it's a penalty kick,
01:04:53it's a penalty kick,
01:04:54it's a penalty kick,
01:04:55it's a penalty kick,
01:04:56it's a penalty kick,
01:04:57it's a penalty kick,
01:04:58it's a penalty kick,
01:04:59it's a penalty kick,
01:05:00it's a penalty kick,
01:05:01it's a penalty kick,
01:05:02it's a penalty kick,
01:05:03it's a penalty kick,
01:05:04it's a penalty kick,
01:05:05it's a penalty kick,
01:05:06it's a penalty kick,
01:05:07it's a penalty kick,
01:05:08it's a penalty kick,
01:05:09it's a penalty kick,
01:05:10it's a penalty kick,
01:05:11it's a penalty kick,
01:05:12it's a penalty kick,
01:05:13it's a penalty kick,
01:05:14it's a penalty kick,
01:05:15it's a penalty kick,
01:05:16it's a penalty kick,
01:05:17it's a penalty kick,
01:05:18it's a penalty kick,
01:05:19it's a penalty kick,
01:05:20it's a penalty kick,
01:05:21it's a penalty kick,
01:05:22it's a penalty kick,
01:05:23it's a penalty kick,
01:05:24it's a penalty kick,
01:05:25How do you assess the performance of the squad and Scottish football from your experiences so far?
01:05:32Yeah, I think it's good. It's always going up and forward.
01:05:35It's a good league, it's also good for me.
01:05:38The team is going every time really hard to push, to push, to push.
01:05:43It's only good for me and for the team to create a lot of chances and to score.
01:05:49Look, you know how Scottish football runs here and you know there's a big expectation on Celtic.
01:05:54So just how important was that second goal to seal the win today?
01:05:57Yeah, I think the boys were going for that right away.
01:06:01It was probably not the start we all wanted.
01:06:04But no, listen, as you said there, it's the amount of chances we create,
01:06:08we know we're going to score goals and I think getting a wee second is always nice to have a wee cushion there.
01:06:13But we know that the next game needs to be better and more goals need to be added.
01:06:17I can't overlook that your debut in the Glasgow derby meant something,
01:06:21but what does that first goal mean?
01:06:22Aye, it's special.
01:06:23Lucky enough I had a bit of family there, hoping I get on.
01:06:27And then to make it even better, you kind of go and get a goal.
01:06:29So no, just a special feeling for me.
01:06:32Well, we'll go on to Champions League business during the week,
01:06:35but for now we have to award the man of the match.
01:06:37So look, the daffodil man of the match is Arna Engels.
01:06:40So congratulations, Arna.
01:06:41Thank you, guys.
01:06:44Brilliant.
01:06:45It was really great to see, Peter, the reaction there.
01:06:48Also an insight into the mentality, a 2-0 win,
01:06:51they might have been happy with how much they dominated the game somewhat,
01:06:54but it won't make any sense that they actually have to do a bit better.
01:06:57Listen, I think this is the way this club's versed.
01:07:00You never get carried away.
01:07:01You know the next game you've got to demand again to win again.
01:07:04You have to play well again.
01:07:06And that's the constant here.
01:07:07And that's the beauty of playing with big clubs.
01:07:09Luke will realise that.
01:07:10He knows it being a supporter.
01:07:12Arnie's a bit different.
01:07:13Maybe if you get beat away in Germany, it didn't matter that much.
01:07:16Away from home or whatever, or against one of the big teams.
01:07:18At Celtic, you have to win every week.
01:07:20You have to play well every week.
01:07:21Or you're questioned.
01:07:23They've done exceptionally well.
01:07:24These young men are only going to get better.
01:07:26The more they get settled in, the more training they get,
01:07:28the fitter they get.
01:07:29Because Celtic is a different fitness for most teams,
01:07:31as well as being different quality.
01:07:33A different fitness level as well.
01:07:34So, great start for these young men.
01:07:36I'm absolutely delighted because I know how they feel.
01:07:38Us as supporters watching them, it's great.
01:07:40But them as young men,
01:07:41getting that opportunity to score in front of these great supporters
01:07:44is something special for them.
01:07:45Yeah, and it was an amazing moment.
01:07:46In the 88th minute as well,
01:07:48it's so appropriate for a Celtic supporter to score in that minute.
01:07:53Before we go into the specifics of the game,
01:07:56Peter, Arne Engels, he's got the Man of the Match award.
01:07:59What did you make of his performance on his Celtic Park first start?
01:08:03I think he'd done really well.
01:08:04I think it's very difficult to enter this Celtic midfield.
01:08:07They've been used to Matt there.
01:08:08Matt's been used to the way the team rotates.
01:08:10Even Paolo Bernard understands that because he had a period last year.
01:08:13Arne Engels has come on against Rangers.
01:08:15He'd done certain things in the game that I thought right away.
01:08:17He runs forward better.
01:08:18He wants to get in the box.
01:08:20His movement's good.
01:08:21The good thing, you can see him, he stays off the defence here.
01:08:24Even though I think he should hit the target,
01:08:26he stayed off the defender.
01:08:27Defender goes back in, he holds his line.
01:08:29He gets dragged back.
01:08:31He knows he's going to get dragged back in line with the ball.
01:08:33He just stays.
01:08:35All of a sudden, he finds himself in the position.
01:08:37But I think he'll be disappointed that he's not at the target
01:08:39when he looks round about it.
01:08:40Good pullback by Alistair Johnson.
01:08:43But the good thing about him, he kept getting in there.
01:08:46He does it in the second half.
01:08:47He keeps getting in there.
01:08:48And that is something that, if you've got a goal-scoring midfielder,
01:08:52especially nowadays because you only play predominantly with one striker,
01:08:55that's worth its weight in gold.
01:08:56Well, he got his first goal later on,
01:08:58but in the first half, Arne Engels hit the post.
01:09:01And this was so close to opening the scoring, Peter.
01:09:04But you're saying he keeps going,
01:09:06and he looks like a class bit of business.
01:09:08Well, look at his bit of movement, Dillon.
01:09:10He knows when the ball goes in, he's not standing still,
01:09:12saying, where's it going to go?
01:09:13Just watch, he just spins away now.
01:09:15There he's in.
01:09:16That's what gives him that wee half yard quicker than the defender.
01:09:19That allows him to touch the ball with his right and smack it with his left.
01:09:21And he's so unfortunate that it's the bottom inside of the post.
01:09:24The only thing, it could end up in the back of the net, of course.
01:09:27But it was great movement, great play for a young man
01:09:29that's got a lot of talent on his shoulders.
01:09:32There is absolutely no doubt that I've seen that,
01:09:34even just in the clips I've seen of him so far.
01:09:36I think he could be a big Celtic player.
01:09:38It's going to be interesting to see how he fares,
01:09:40especially on Wednesday night in the Champions League.
01:09:43That seems like the stage that Arnie Engels is going to love, isn't it?
01:09:48Well, you look at these players, the age they're at,
01:09:50the ones that's played in it,
01:09:52these young men coming in to play in the Champions League,
01:09:54Luke McGowan at 27, 26, 27, whatever he is,
01:09:56getting an opportunity to play in the Champions League.
01:09:59They must be so excited, you know?
01:10:01Coming to play for Celtic, brilliant, fantastic.
01:10:04But then going out in the Champions League against the best players
01:10:06is something special.
01:10:08Coming out here, European nights is unbelievable.
01:10:11Every match is unbelievable, don't get me wrong,
01:10:13but European nights is something special.
01:10:15When these boys hear that, Champions League music for them,
01:10:18it is something completely different.
01:10:20Probably Luke McGowan would never have dreamt of that in later years
01:10:23because he thinks that's maybe bypassed him.
01:10:25So it just shows you where the opportunity arises
01:10:27with a lot of hard work and talent.
01:10:29You've got an opportunity to do that
01:10:31and hopefully both of them go and get that result
01:10:34and performance come Tuesday or Wednesday.
01:10:36Absolutely, we'll have our fingers crossed for that.
01:10:38But we'll look back at this incident in the first half.
01:10:41Peter Hart's had a penalty shout, it went to a VAR review.
01:10:45I think that last year this might have been given,
01:10:48but there seems to be a new directive at the SFA.
01:10:50I know Willie Collins has been doing the rounds in the media this week.
01:10:53Do you think that's maybe played a part
01:10:55in the new directive that they're looking to take?
01:10:58Yeah, I do.
01:11:00I also think if the ball was going towards goal,
01:11:02maybe it would be slightly different.
01:11:04What does he do there, Liam Skills?
01:11:06He's turning and it's not as if he's put his hand up towards the ball.
01:11:09You think to yourself,
01:11:11it's great defending on the line also with Kyogo who's a striker.
01:11:14So he has awareness here.
01:11:16But you see here, he's actually mishandled it, Shankland,
01:11:19and it's went back across.
01:11:21The difference is, as we see later on in the penalty kick that we get,
01:11:25the arm's in a different area.
01:11:27The arm's been put up here and that's not a natural position.
01:11:31Obviously, it's very difficult.
01:11:33Your hands are supposed to be down by your side to stop a cross.
01:11:35It's difficult.
01:11:37But because they're out here, I know Penrice was saying they were in here,
01:11:39but his hand was definitely out from his body.
01:11:41And that still is seemingly the rule.
01:11:43If your hand's out from your body like this,
01:11:45it is a penalty kick.
01:11:47Skills, I think if it's in line with the goal,
01:11:50I think maybe we're looking at a different scenario there.
01:11:52I'm not sure on that because people say if they turn
01:11:55and they're not lifting their hand up, it's not a penalty.
01:11:57I think we'd be looking at a different decision
01:11:59if the ball, as I say, was going in target.
01:12:01I think when you look at the situation Stephen Naismith's in at the minute,
01:12:04Peter, he's going to be pretty frustrated by that decision.
01:12:08And I believe there was a similar decision
01:12:10on the opening day of the season against Rangers.
01:12:12But it shows that there's a consistency there, isn't there?
01:12:15Yeah, but I've still got that problem
01:12:17because it's three referees sitting up the stairs as well,
01:12:20or two sitting up the stairs and you've got one on the pitch.
01:12:22Surely when they're all training together,
01:12:24they know it's a penalty and when it's not a penalty,
01:12:26you shouldn't need to shout them over.
01:12:27It's a penalty or it's not a penalty.
01:12:29And we know we talk about you're taking that responsibility away
01:12:31for the unfiled referee.
01:12:34The problem is you're getting eight minutes extra time
01:12:36because you're asking the referee to go over.
01:12:38If that's referees up the stairs, they should be saying penalty kick,
01:12:40not penalty kick.
01:12:42That referee then doesn't get the responsibility,
01:12:44it's the guys up the stairs and that's their job.
01:12:46If they've got to take responsibility for that,
01:12:48they know there's a doubt there.
01:12:50I don't think there should be a doubt.
01:12:51As you were asking me what the rules is,
01:12:53obviously they too don't know what the rule is
01:12:55and one's made a different decision for the other.
01:12:57Well, let's go down to the Sheltie Park tunnel
01:12:59with Keith Cameron, Carter Vickers
01:13:01and we'll stand in line with John Ledwith.
01:13:06Liam, we spoke before the game and you knew that
01:13:08Herts were going to make that tough,
01:13:09so how do you assess the overall performance today
01:13:12along with the victory?
01:13:13Yeah, I think it was a good performance.
01:13:15I think if we took our chances early on,
01:13:17it might have been a little bit different.
01:13:19It got a bit nervy towards the end,
01:13:21but we ended up taking the win.
01:13:23It was a good performance, good result
01:13:25and we're happy with that.
01:13:27And Cameron, I'm not sure if you're aware,
01:13:29but that fifth clean sheet in victory
01:13:31now stretches back to 1906,
01:13:33the last time we've had such a good start.
01:13:35Is there a pride in that?
01:13:36Because it looked as though
01:13:37everyone was putting everything on the line
01:13:39to keep Herts from getting anywhere near the goal
01:13:41in the later stages.
01:13:42Yeah, the manager mentioned that before the game,
01:13:45before he went out today.
01:13:47It was definitely on the back of everyone's minds.
01:13:49First and foremost it was to win the game,
01:13:51so it was definitely nice to keep a clean sheet.
01:13:53And you'll expect something different Wednesday night,
01:13:55the UEFA Champions League campaign kicks off.
01:13:57They're special nights, aren't they?
01:13:59Yeah, it's exciting.
01:14:00All the boys are looking forward to it.
01:14:02Now after this game it's about recovering
01:14:04and preparing for that one.
01:14:05And Liam, a final word for the two guys
01:14:07who've scored their first goals for Celtic.
01:14:09I know it meant a lot to you to wear the hoops
01:14:11for the first time and score your first goal,
01:14:13so you'll know how they'll be feeling today.
01:14:15Yeah, it's brilliant.
01:14:16It's fairytale stuff for them.
01:14:18I'd say their bosom and their families
01:14:20would have voted for them, so it's great,
01:14:22but hopefully we didn't get them any more than that for us.
01:14:24Well done today, guys.
01:14:26Brilliant to see the two central defenders talking with John Ledbeth there,
01:14:31Peter, Liam Scales, he was excellent this afternoon, wasn't he?
01:14:34Yeah, I think both of them were excellent,
01:14:36but I thought Liam Scales, as they say,
01:14:38won an important header right in the middle of the box
01:14:40with a long throw, first ball up.
01:14:42And as a centre-back that's so important,
01:14:44people talk about, oh, they can use the ball well,
01:14:46they can do this well, yes, but your job is to defend first and foremost
01:14:49and be a good defender.
01:14:50And with the way Hart's going forward,
01:14:52they kept Shanklin getting taken off,
01:14:54it was a different type of striker that came on against them.
01:14:57The one opportunity they get in between,
01:14:59probably Carter Vickers is dragged too far
01:15:01and he gets in between, he gets a slide-in with the foot,
01:15:05the opportunity that Schmeichel saves.
01:15:07But these boys are so, so important
01:15:09because predominantly they're playing two at the back,
01:15:11so when the ball changes over,
01:15:13you have to be in the right position, the right concentration levels.
01:15:16The two of them were excellent today.
01:15:18If you want to win, I think they do that very, very well
01:15:20and that is not an easy skill
01:15:22because sometimes you always...
01:15:24Old centre-halves always wanted full-back run about them,
01:15:26but I think these boys now are quite willing to go one-for-one,
01:15:29especially in the Premier League here in Scotland.
01:15:32Well, let's go and hear from the manager, Brendan Rodgers.
01:15:36He's now with John Ledworth down in the Shelter Park tunnel area.
01:15:41Brendan, that felt like a more hard-fought win
01:15:44than perhaps some of them so far,
01:15:46but what do you make of the endeavours of the players today?
01:15:48Yes, I think on the back of an international break,
01:15:52you always hope that the players will come back and show up
01:15:54and I thought there were a lot of moments in the game
01:15:56where we were very good.
01:16:00Hearts come to make it really difficult
01:16:02and worked very hard and had good physicality in the team.
01:16:05If we score the goal earlier,
01:16:07we had a few chances.
01:16:09Arnaud's got in once,
01:16:11he's just flashed it over,
01:16:14he's hit the post,
01:16:15got a great chance with Kiergoan.
01:16:17If you get that early goal in that first 20 minutes,
01:16:19then it opens the game up for you.
01:16:21So, we didn't quite manage to do that,
01:16:24but I still thought we looked lively,
01:16:26looked creative,
01:16:28and obviously big Craig makes a couple of good saves as well.
01:16:32But these games, as I say, you've got to show up,
01:16:34and the players showed up very, very well,
01:16:36kept pushing, we get the penalty,
01:16:38then we get the second goal,
01:16:39and unfortunately the third goal was ruled out for just offside.
01:16:43But very, very pleasing,
01:16:45and I believe the players have obviously broke a record as well,
01:16:49which is always nice.
01:16:51They have indeed.
01:16:52You've broke many records in your time here, Brendan,
01:16:54but this one stretches back to 1906.
01:16:56It's the best start to a season with five wins and five clean sheets.
01:17:00You'll take as much pride from that as the goals?
01:17:02Yeah, I said to the players beforehand,
01:17:04our objective is to win,
01:17:06but if there's a record there,
01:17:07then we might as well go for it and try and push.
01:17:10So the players had that little extra added mentality in their game,
01:17:15and I thought you could see that.
01:17:16I thought the pressing was excellent,
01:17:18doubling up, restricting them to not so many opportunities,
01:17:22and then just right to the end,
01:17:24guys have travelled a long way,
01:17:27but they kept running, kept fighting right to the very end.
01:17:29To have that clean sheet mentality is important in any top team,
01:17:33and the players demonstrated that.
01:17:35I know you've mentioned in the past that playing for Celtic
01:17:38brings its own pressure, the expectancy to win.
01:17:41Early in the second half, when there's no goals,
01:17:43you get a penalty kick,
01:17:45you see a young man step up and confidently slam home his first goal,
01:17:48that's quite a thing to do.
01:17:50Yeah, absolutely.
01:17:53I think that him doing that was a really, really cool finish.
01:17:58We needed one way or the other to break through and get the goal,
01:18:02so it was early and showed a great composure to be able to do that.
01:18:07I'm really pleased for Arna, I thought he was excellent in the game,
01:18:10good running, good physicality,
01:18:12and finished it with a real aplomb.
01:18:15And the impact of your substitutes,
01:18:17Luke McEwen has bagged his first goal for Celtic and a very important second one.
01:18:21Adam has come on and unfortunately he's not had the goal,
01:18:24but you'll be pleased to see the full squad doing exactly what you need from them?
01:18:27Yeah, it's what we need.
01:18:30We're going into a busy period now over these coming months,
01:18:33so to give those guys some minutes on their legs and to come in and contribute even more,
01:18:38it's actually a special moment for Luke being a Celtic supporter,
01:18:41to score in the game and have that feeling with the crowd.
01:18:47I think they've all seen the joy he's had for himself and for everyone
01:18:52by becoming a Celtic player,
01:18:54and I think he felt that in the whole stadium when he got his goal,
01:18:57so a really, really special moment for him.
01:18:59And a really good finish against Big Craig, who's the top keeper.
01:19:03Attention will turn to Match Day 1 in the Champions League.
01:19:06I'm assuming there's very little, by way of motivation, required,
01:19:09but what will the build-up look like for the players now,
01:19:11given the travelling they've done and now an intense match today?
01:19:14Yeah, we'll just recover now and then we'll put our plan in place for Wednesday.
01:19:18So I'm so excited by that.
01:19:20Today was important to get off to a good start this week,
01:19:22because there were three different competitions to get the victory.
01:19:25Everyone knows a year ago when we lost 2-0,
01:19:29it didn't feel good and didn't feel nice,
01:19:31but now you see the team has that mentality, really strong,
01:19:34and everyone contributing, so a really good result.
01:19:38Well done, Brendan.
01:19:39Thank you, thanks.
01:19:41Big thanks to Brendan Rodgers and John Ledbetter, and that's a great start.
01:19:45The first five clean sheets in almost 120 years.
01:19:49Brendan Rodgers, no stranger to breaking records.
01:19:52Peter, let's press on with the analysis.
01:19:57Here's the penalty incident from the second half
01:20:00that led to Celtic's opener.
01:20:02Why is this maybe different from the one in the first half,
01:20:05and why Celtic eventually got it awarded?
01:20:08His hands are away from his body and up,
01:20:11that's the difference you're seeing here.
01:20:14The referees say his hands should be down,
01:20:16they say they're halfway up his body,
01:20:18but because they're high and it's not a natural position,
01:20:21that's why he's given the penalty kick.
01:20:23I don't think there can be any argument when you look back at that.
01:20:26Obviously the heart's one people will question,
01:20:29but this one I've absolutely no doubt.
01:20:31But yet again, I don't think the referee needs to go over here.
01:20:34There was a bit of deliberation over the penalty taker,
01:20:36Arna Ingles then has given the penalty,
01:20:38Rio obviously gives him a wee pat, gives him a bit of encouragement,
01:20:42but he then slots it home for his first Celtic goal,
01:20:46which is a great moment.
01:20:47Fantastic moment for him, but I'll tell you what,
01:20:49if I'm real with that, he's not getting that ball,
01:20:51I don't care if it's his debut or not,
01:20:53he's not getting that ball at all.
01:20:55Well done to Callum for being the peacemaker in many respects,
01:20:58but he wouldn't even get the ball off him, I don't care.
01:21:00But fantastic for the big fella and he's taken it ever so well.
01:21:03And his performance deserved that, to be fair to him.
01:21:06He'll be disappointed, and it just shows you
01:21:08the camaraderie that's in the squad,
01:21:10and I think that's important as well,
01:21:12because you have to try and keep everyone happy within the group,
01:21:14that's not the manager's job, that's the player's job.
01:21:17They'll do that, and as I say,
01:21:19Callum was the peacemaker there to give him his opportunity,
01:21:21and he'll be absolutely delighted to get his first goal.
01:21:23Let's have a look at this chance that Hearts had in the second half,
01:21:26Peter, this was probably their best chance, you thought,
01:21:29that they really should have scored this one,
01:21:31and this would have set up quite an ending.
01:21:33Yeah, Alistair Johnson is taking a sloppy touch,
01:21:35and all of a sudden you see the boy between Carter-Vickers and Scales,
01:21:38and Carter-Vickers gets dragged forward,
01:21:40and the boy doesn't get enough on it,
01:21:42but it's a great reaction, I'm talking about where your goalkeeper's position is,
01:21:45and you see where Kasper is here,
01:21:47but you see Carter-Vickers gets slightly dragged forward,
01:21:49the ball's over his head, he gets a toe poke,
01:21:51but he's put himself in the right area, Kasper Schmeichel,
01:21:54because he can get both sides of the goal,
01:21:56and it's a fantastic reaction save,
01:21:58and listen, Zildjian deserves it,
01:22:01but that's again why he's a top goalkeeper,
01:22:03they have moments as a Celtic goalkeeper,
01:22:06you can have no involvement, but you have to make a save,
01:22:08and he'd done that, and we'd gone and won the game comfortably,
01:22:11but at that big moment there, because if that becomes 1-1,
01:22:13then it becomes really difficult.
01:22:15Yeah, well, the nerves were calmed,
01:22:17and what a moment it was, in the 88th minute,
01:22:20you've seen his joy even walking out the tunnel on deadline day,
01:22:24this must have been an exhilarating moment for Luke McEwan.
01:22:28Well, the one thing about him, he's playing with a wee bit of personality,
01:22:31because even when he won the ball back,
01:22:33he switched the play out at first, then it goes wide,
01:22:36but you see how he holds his position yet again,
01:22:38not going back in with the heart's midfield,
01:22:40and he opens his body.
01:22:42Whether Craig Gorman will be disappointed when he gets such a big hand on it,
01:22:46I'm not so sure, but fair play to Luke McEwan,
01:22:49and what a special feeling, he can't bottle that,
01:22:52if he could bottle that and take that home tonight,
01:22:54that would stay in his mantelpiece forever more,
01:22:56because the feeling is incredible, please believe me,
01:22:59it's an incredible feeling and fantastic and delighted for him.
01:23:02Well, we thought it was going to be 3-0,
01:23:04Peter, everybody in the stadium thought Adam Middard got his first goal of the season
01:23:08since returning on a permanent basis,
01:23:10I think Lewis Palmer will have a bit of explaining to do to Adam Middard.
01:23:14Yes, and I thought Adam looked sharper today,
01:23:16and I know, obviously he's been away,
01:23:18I'm still not convinced, because I thought the central one
01:23:20was maybe playing Palmer on, but he should still get back quicker.
01:23:23But it was good play, Greg Taylor has worked extremely hard to get for,
01:23:27I thought he was outstanding again today,
01:23:29Adam Middard bursting to get in the box, the things he'd done last year,
01:23:32and you can see when they put the lines up,
01:23:34yes, you can see it's been a bit lazy,
01:23:36but you see the run that Greg Taylor's done,
01:23:38that's how quickly Palmer's got to be getting back onside to help,
01:23:42because then Celtic are going to predominantly win the ball back
01:23:44and they're going to be attacking quickly,
01:23:46so you as a forward player have to work back
01:23:48as quick as the opposition are working out.
01:23:50So, disappointed for Adam Middard, so it's been brilliant for him,
01:23:53and probably been the perfect day if he didn't get his goal,
01:23:55but we'll settle for 2-0 and hopefully save one for coming Wednesday evening.
01:23:59Yes, of course. Let's have a little look then at the league table,
01:24:03where we stand, we're five games in now,
01:24:05Peter, the international break is over,
01:24:07it's probably a good time to have a look at the table.
01:24:10Celtic and Aberdeen, it's a credit to Aberdeen,
01:24:12they're keeping pace with Celtic,
01:24:14but the goal difference for Celtic is fantastic at the minute,
01:24:18and that's because they've not even conceded a goal yet in the league.
01:24:21Yes, listen, league tables mean absolutely nothing at this moment in time,
01:24:25it's always great to be at the top of them,
01:24:27and that's where Celtic are expected to be with the quality they have,
01:24:30and it's always great when everybody else is chasing.
01:24:32I'd always rather be in front, whether it's at the start of the season,
01:24:34because you want to be there at the end of the season,
01:24:37but at this moment in time, I'm sure Brendan will just be saying to the players,
01:24:40next one's a European game, then we're on to the next game,
01:24:43then we're on to the next game.
01:24:45That's what it is at this football club, unfortunately.
01:24:47You're champions probably for six weeks, I keep saying it,
01:24:49because the expectation is you have to go again,
01:24:52you have to win it again, you have to win the Cups again,
01:24:55that's the expectation, and these guys have been shown so far,
01:24:58they're more than capable of going on a run,
01:25:02and been very, very difficult to catch.
01:25:04Well, it's Champions League on Wednesday night, up next,
01:25:08it's a live audio commentary on Celtic TV,
01:25:11so join us if you can, 8pm, kick-off.
01:25:15Thanks very much, Peter, did you enjoy it today?
01:25:17Thank you very much, I thought you were excellent as well.
01:25:20Oh, you're too kind.
01:25:21Well, thank you for tuning in wherever you are around the world,
01:25:24your support to Celtic is always fantastic here on Celtic TV.
01:25:28Until next time, bye for now.
01:25:31Billy McNeil picks the European Cup for Celtic.
01:25:34Celtic have won the double.
01:25:36Oh, what an incredible...
01:25:38That is sensational!
01:25:41It's a title for Celtic.
01:25:43Oh, unbelievable!
01:25:45Celtic have done it!
01:25:47They are all insane to do it!
01:25:49It's so special, you can see it before your eyes.
01:25:52Celtic, we know our history, we make history.
