00:00The people want water. And by people, we mean the farmers.
00:06I would like to see a comprehensive plan which includes Wasser in this plan.
00:11Because I lose this last meeting, I want 80 acres of rice to have Wasser.
00:16They shut me down for pumping water from Aravin.
00:20Although I had a permit, the permit was on the wrong gate on it.
00:24When she intervened, they see what was the problem, and nobody did nothing about it.
00:29Mr. Singh has been farming rice for the past 30 years
00:33and hasn't faced a challenge to get seeds like he does today.
00:37In years ago, they were producing rice in Trinidad.
00:40They shut down all that.
00:42So now that they import from Guyana, they bring in some rice.
00:46In September last year, the farmers produced some rice.
00:52They were bringing back a shipment for June this year.
00:57I don't know what happened in Guyana. I didn't get it.
00:59So plenty of farmers in Guba can't produce.
01:01So rice is a big challenge for us.
01:03Speaking on the Keeping It Real panel discussion,
01:06Singh said there are new techniques to improve yield and expand grain production,
01:11but farmers are not getting the support they need.
01:14We could produce red bean in this country.
01:17We could produce black eye in this country.
01:19We could produce corn for animal feed for the poultry industry.
01:23We could produce cars in this country.
01:25All these things are important.
01:26We could produce all this in this country.
01:28So I would like to see a plan for the government,
01:30whether it's government in power, to get this thing going.
01:33In 1990, he said TNT produced some 24,000 tons of rice.
01:38Decades later, the most recent data showed TNT import some 33,000 tons of rice
01:45and produce close to 500 tons.
