00:00Secretary Fahli Augustin met on Thursday afternoon with election observers and told TV6 News he looks forward to this country, proceeding with free and fair elections.
00:09Mr. Augustin said this country, despite its size, has remained a place where there is a peaceful transfer of power.
00:18The conversations went pretty well, and in those conversations we were able to discuss what might be potential gaps in our voting system
00:29and how we close those gaps.
00:32But one of the things I want to stress is that, by and large, Trinidad and Tobago should be proud that we generally have free and fair elections
00:43and that we have a democracy that is generally free from violent responses to election results.
00:53Yes, people have utilized the court systems.
00:56People have protested in other ways, and that is okay.
01:01That's part of what makes our democracy great.
01:03And so we are looking forward to free and fair elections come April 28th.
01:09In fact, the process has started since Monday with our special electors, and we are going to engage the process.
01:18We are going to work with the election observers in making recommendations for how we can close the gaps in areas where there are gaps to be closed
01:29as we make our voting system a lot more robust than it is.
