With that I want to bring in our hurricane lead meteorologist Alex DeSilva and you know Alex
00:07
we've been watching this wave over the last couple of days and you made a comment to me that
00:12
boy this wave is flying I mean really moving fast to the west. Yeah it's moving at more than 25
00:18
miles per hour which is about 10 miles per hour faster than the average wave moves across the
00:24
Atlantic so certainly hauling across the the Atlantic right now. Now the hurricane hunters
00:29
flying around in this thing right now they're finding that the winds are slowly starting to
00:33
uptick however the thing is still rather disorganized they're having trouble finding
00:39
an organized center at this time and that's what you need for tropical storm development so
00:44
I think that any development will continue to be slow and I think we're still at least
00:49
about maybe 24 hours away from before we see this thing officially become named. All right let's go
00:56
over the ingredients of course the water temperatures are plenty warm enough let's
01:00
talk about the dry air or in this case you know there's dry air in its path but I don't see
01:05
anything coming into the area of thunderstorms I see it being pushed away. Yeah you're starting
01:10
to see a little bit more thunderstorm activity in that little pocket that the storm is in right now
01:14
so again starting to become better organized again I still think that it still needs a little bit
01:19
more time but again you're starting to see more of the flare-up of thunderstorms indicating the
01:24
storm is starting to breathe and is starting to get a little bit better organized I'm not seeing a
01:28
whole lot of entrainment with that dry air we're not seeing a lot of that that yellow color in
01:33
where those thunderstorms are so again the storm is slowly becoming better organized and should
01:38
continue to do so as it approaches the islands. I see a little dip in the jet stream you see that
01:44
Alex just north of Puerto Rico that's called causing some wind shear that dark purple shading
01:50
near the northern leeward islands. It certainly is and I think the storm itself is also imposing
01:56
wind shear literally on itself because again we talked about how fast the storm was moving over
02:01
25 miles per hour to the west right now and you know when storms move that fast again it's hard
02:06
for them to kind of catch up and essentially organize because they're just moving so fast but
02:12
again like you just mentioned you have that dip in the jet stream that's imposing a little bit
02:16
more wind shear so again I think it's struggling due to that wind shear not so much the dry air.
02:22
Yeah let's talk about what's going to happen then Alex you know we'll show you the pathway here in
02:28
a second where this is going to go but I mean the million dollar question is impacts all along the
02:33
United States that's what everybody wants to know. Yeah I think the rip currents are going to be the
02:37
primary impact across the United States all the way from South Florida all the way up into New
02:43
England starting Friday and then going into the weekend again you're going to have a very very
02:47
powerful hurricane likely north of Puerto Rico heading towards Bermuda and the waves just propagate
02:54
out from the storm. It takes a day or two from from where the storm is to get to the to get to
02:58
the coast but I think by the end of the week and into the weekend we're really going to see those
03:02
rip current risks high across the entirety of the east coast here. Now one area watch two areas we'll
03:09
keep an eye on Bermuda and then even Nova Scotia early next week Alex. Yes certainly there's going
03:14
to be another dip in the jet stream coming in after this kind of the first one that's going to
03:18
pull the storm north and I'm worried that that one could pull the storm a little further west.
03:23
I don't think it's going to come into New England however we're going to have to watch out in
03:27
Atlantic Canada, Nova Scotia and up towards Newfoundland for the storm to get maybe a little
03:32
bit closer and bring impacts to those areas. All right Alex Da Silva, Accuweather lead hurricane
03:38
expert. Thanks for joining us this morning on Accuweather Early Alex.
