Colm Imbert recalled that in January of this year, the Finance Ministry signed a

contract with Canada-based Sectus Technologies for the purchase of four

such scanners. The Finance Minister said the two new scanners will be

strategically deployed at the Port of Port of Spain and the Port of Point

Lisas following a two to three week commissioning period which would involve

site acceptance, testing and training. The Minister said the other two scanners

are expected to arrive in the country by later this month on November 24th.

The Finance Minister said the procurement of the four scanners was at a

cost of 12 million US dollars, inclusive of maintenance and technician training

for customs and excise personnel.
