00:04In the Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one lap Savannah race around the Queen's Park Savannah in 10 minutes, 48 seconds.
00:12Alex Ikisa, second, 12 minutes, 36 seconds, and Zidane Hamid, third, 12 minutes, 43 seconds.
00:20Meantime, Naila Kerr won it for the ladies in 13 minutes, 20 seconds, Alexia John, second, 15 minutes, 26 seconds,
00:28and Hekpera Kafra, third, 16 minutes, 21 seconds.
00:33Acting General Manager of CADV Christina Baradas-Brewster outlined the objectives for the event.
00:40You know, we have, I would say, two objectives.
00:43One is obviously fundraising because we are an NGO, we have no subvention,
00:48and we have kept ourselves going for the last 40 plus years through commitments from the society,
00:56from corporate and from individuals who understand the importance of this fight that we are in.
01:04CADV Chairperson Roberta Clark participated and reflected on the experience.
01:09It was wonderful for two reasons.
01:11One, I got to exercise, and also I got to be carrying the message that we all need peaceful families
01:17in Trinan and Tobago.
01:18And being part of the hundreds of people who were here, I felt very much that we were a community.
01:25We were a community of people in solidarity.
01:28Treasurer Gary Francois gave a breakdown on how they intended to distribute the funds.
01:33We use these funds, really, to help these young ladies, mainly young ladies and women,
01:40in terms of getting themselves back into society, in terms of dealing with the mindset,
01:50in terms of being able to handle the pressures of domestic violence.
01:56And that's how we really disperse our funds.
01:59The organization's director, Khatija Khan, says they intended to grow the event further
02:04as they aim to create more awareness.
02:06So events like these help us to raise awareness and to do my advocacy for problems like domestic violence.
02:14Domestic violence is a scourge in the country.
02:16It's a massive problem.
02:18More, approximately one in three women are going to experience violence at the hands of their intimate partners.
02:24And those are just the ones that are reported.
02:26So we know that many people are affected, families and communities.
