Eighty cheques totaling $2million were distributed to Carnival stakeholders in Tobago on Monday for the October Carnival. The cheque presentation by the Tobago Festivals Commission took place at the Shaw Park Complex. More in this Elizabeth Williams report.

00:00We are here for a very important aspect of how we intend to do our events in the future.
00:09So we're not just presenting to you funds to support your bands, to support your events, to support your carnival dreams to be.
00:19But this is the start of a Tobago Festivals Commission that is becoming more and more serious and intentional about growing the creative sector in Tobago.
00:30Calypso Rose would be flying in from New York to join in the 2024 edition of Tobago's Carnival.
00:37Last year, we had T-PAC doing the Queen of the Road musical, which was a tribute to Calypso Rose, who is going to be joining us for Carnival this year.
00:48We have ensured that every single year we're coming with something different, that we're evolving the product, that we're keeping it fresh, that we're keeping it new.
00:57CEO of the Tobago Festivals Commission Limited, Curtin Cowan, said there needs to be a moving away from the dependency on the THA.
01:06That we are interested in who our stakeholders are, how we support them, and we are interested in growing this orange economy to a place of sustainability.

01:23$9 million has been allocated for Tobago's Carnival.
